#toph making an Earth angel

The idea of characters from other stories winding up in SVSSS has been stuck in my head for a while but I'm not gonna write abt it lmao so here's what's been rattling around in the ole noggin:
Toph:
Toph would be a genuine menace
Specifically on poor Liu Qingge, who hasn't the slightest clue how he wound up with yet another student
Earthbending should not be possible here. Earthbending is NOT possible here.
Toph invents earthbending here.
In fact, she only gets stronger. Because the cultivation aspects of the world means she's got even more qi and knows more about how to use it beyond earthbending.
She can now use qi itself to "see" (sensing others' qi, using it to sense movement, etc.) Not just earthbending
Lqg wants nothing to do with any more disciples. Especially not ones as annoying as yang yixuan
He gets a gremlin even more annoying than yang yixuan
He lies awake at night, regretting saving her life that one time on a hunt and kickstarting her path of being a Problem
Specifically, he saves her life one night while she's out trying to remaster earthbending, inspiring her to become a cultivator
She runs away from her noble family and their arranged marriage and stifling life that they've planned out for her and heads straight to Cang Qiong's Bai Zhan peak the first chance she gets
Refuses to take no for an answer, thus growing to become lqg's #1 menace
He both blesses and curses the day she was born
Lqg would sooner die than admit she's basically his other baby sister/daughter figure
Will outright refuse to fly on her sword When asked how she'll get around, the earth goddamn MOVES UNDER HER FEET and she causes several earthquake/mole monster sightings with these shenanigans
Is banned from this move
Begins to tunnel underground instead
She could arguably fly on her sword just fine, sensing the qi around her to navigate and shit, but it's harder and definitely uncomfortable and brings back bad memories of that one time in the volcano with Aang and Sokka
Luo Binghe wants her dead
She probably never gets strong enough to 1v1 him and win but she's definitely strong enough to become a genuine challenge
Especially when she reinvents metalbending
Rides for her shizun ong
Would probably fight lbh for lqg's honor after the SQQ corpse situation (he did not ask her to do this)
Aang:
The angel of Qing Jing peak fr
Or that monastery but we don't hear enough about them tbh
Has legitimately no idea how he got here, maybe too scared to question it actually
Like, did he really fuck up and end up getting ripped out of the avatar cycle orrrr????
Decides some things are better left unknown
The only struggle he really has is not being bald anymore
Honestly???? Might still shave his head and just stick to a wig
Would inevitably get caught or ALMOST caught and eventually gets used to growing it out (would probably become the inventor of extensions or wig glue though lmao)
Would make the spoiled qing jing disciples better just by being around them tbh
Star student probably, would be a menace in a cute way
One of the few men allowed on Xian Shu (for visits/messages)
Would probably befriend demons ngl
Loves flying on his sword
Prefers his staff though, and eventually figures out how to make/get someone to make one for him
No one knows how he does the air scooter. They are scared.
No one asks about the tattoos either.
Or how he's controlling all these fucking elements.
He doesn't have an avatar state anymore, but that doesn't seem to stop him from being wildly more dangerous than anyone expected
Possibly unlocks permanent cultivation-blocking? Like sealing off your core
Demons don't take note
Until he learns how to do the same for demonic cores
Exorcist Aang
Possibly becomes a rogue/wandering cultivator
Wandering rogue exorcist Aang????
He's either a god descended upon the earth or a heavenly demon in disguise, according to critics
He thinks it's all silly
Until he meditates too hard and communes with a god or something who tells him they may or may not have bargained to snatch his corner of the avatars soul for a reason
Uh oh
Sokka:
Does not know how he managed to get spiritual energy or cultivate
Actively chooses not to think too much about it
The head disciple of An Ding 😭
Absolutely salty about it
Shang Qinghua is endlessly grateful though
Does not know what to make of the long hair thing; probably tries to keep his hair in a half-pony still, as an ode to the water tribe
I've seen some fics where Qiong Ding is headcannoned as the bureaucratic peak; in this case, he might be able to sweet talk his way in if fate and Yue Qingyuan is kind enough
Either way he's grateful he gets to do sword stuff again
Especially now that he can FLY on them?!
He hasn't completely forgotten his skills, so he's got a whole different style no one's seen before and it's Weirdly Good Actually
He finally works his cultivation up enough to get his personal sword
Then he finally gets to summon his and he cries
It's space sword
No one knows what the fuck to make of this weird ass sword but he doesn't care, it's his and he loves it
Known as the best ever manager of An Ding peak
Katara:
Would have one (1) argument with her brother and march up to Xian Shu
Frequent visitor of Qing Jing and Qian Cao
Mu Qingfang mourns every day that she didn't choose the medicine peak
Katara maintains that she's too ready to beat some ass to ever be a full doctor and vow to do no harm
Never quite learns to be comfy with a sword but can still handle her own
During the demon invasion on Cang Qiong (assuming she's there at the time), she bloodbends Hualing right off the mountain
The demons do NOT stick around
The cultivators are too scared to ask her what the fuck that was but they're nicer to her than before
The xian shu peak gains a fearsome reputation of possibly teaching blood magic
No One gets how she does the waterbending stuff. Outsiders assume it's some Xian Shu ancient secret technique. Or she's related to Mobei Jun. Real members know Kataras just Like This.
Keeps the hair loopies. No matter what people say.
Wears a blue necklace similar to her mother's heirloom; a gift from her shizun probably
Genuinely enjoys the sisterhood on Xian Shu. It reminds her of the better days of her home, before the southern raiders came back
Zuko:
Could've chosen from several peaks, but chooses Bai Zhan
Something about the bamboo on Qing Jing reminds him of his uncle though, so he likes to visit. But not for too long. It hurts.
Isn't really bothered by the long hair thing; while cutting hair isn't forbidden in the fire nation, long hair is common practice, especially for nobles
Keeps the standard topknot until Toph calls it ugly
And then he remembers toph cannot see his topknot
Starts doing ponytails anyway
Also a star student of Bai Zhan, especially after he busts out the firebending forms
Yet another nuisance for poor lqg
He and Toph are the only two that can keep up with each other
Known as the Twin Stars of Bai Zhan
Aka the Twin Headaches of Liu Qingge
Has a small red birthmark near his eye, on the side that used to be burned
The fact that there isn't a massive burn is mildly uncomfortable to him at first. Doesn't feel like himself
Again, No One knows how all these kids with weird qi abilities are coming from
They're beginning to suspect they're all part demon
Neither he nor Toph ever defeat the demon heritage allegations
Especially not with the way they fight. And allegedly have a Past that no one else knows about
Would also fight Binghe for his Shizuns honor
Weirdly chill for Bai Zhan actually
Has probably made leaps and bounds from his avatar hunting days already
Most expect him to have gone to a quieter peak, it's baffling
Until he beats the shit outta somebody
And then goes back to being gentle and chill and forgiving
He wonders if uncle Iroh is watching over him here too
He can only hope his uncle is still proud of him, wherever he might be
Lqg isn't his uncle, but he's still a kind presence that Zuko looks up to a little, even if the guy is a little too punchy
Thus takes it upon himself to ride or die for him
One of the few dual wielders around
His curved blades are also a source of curiosity for the others
But he's good with them so no one complains
In a bingliushen situation, Zuko, Toph, and YYX are feral protective gremlins that somehow make things better AND worse for the development of the bingliushen courtship process lmao
I'll probably make more at some point but that's all for now. If someone wants to make a fic of these PLEASE let me know, link me I'm desperate

If you know one (or two) things about me, it’s that I am occasionally chronically late to a fandom (sometimes accidental, sometimes on purpose), so I missed the ATLA renaissance, but I found my way around to it, which means! Recs!
This is going to be majority Sokka/Zuko, with a couple others in here. There’s def a second post coming as I make my way through the tag. As ever, master rec post can be found pinned on my tumblr here!
Zukka ATLA Recs
Wooing the Water Tribe by lenaballena (ALL TIME FAVE RIGHT HERE)
Zuko is courting Katara, and with every passing day finds new and insane ways of showing that he would quite literally move the spirit world and earth to make her happy.
In hindsight, it probably would've been better if Sokka had realised he was in love with Zuko at literally any time before this. Or preferably, never fallen for his best friend in the first place.
exothermic reaction by blueconsequences
When Sokka is temporarily blinded by Fire Nation soldiers, the members of the Gaang take turns to care for him.
One pair of hands is warmer than the others.
Love's Such an Old-Fashioned Word by drvcos
When invited to the 100th anniversary of his father’s company, after 15 years of radio silence, Zuko decides to show how happy he is to all the people from his past. There’s only one (fatal) problem.
Or,
Zuko is a frazzled single dad, Sokka is an absolute flirt, and the “fake” that comes before their relationship doesn’t feel all that fake.
like real people do by verdanthoney for bleekay
Sokka knew he would be dealing with a raging case of baby fever during their annual vacation on Ember Island. What he didn’t expect was to discover that he was also hopelessly in love with Zuko, and had been for years without realizing.
Spirits Help Us, There's Two of Them by hopepunk
Sokka and Zuko are both weird guys. Fortunately, they're the same kind of weird as each other.
(do you take this jerk to be) your one and only by jatersade
Under the leadership of Fire Lord Iroh, the Fire Nation has made every attempt to restore peace and make amends for the harm they inflicted during the Seventy-Year War. Their newest proposal is a literal proposal: a marriage to unite the Fire Nation and the Water Tribes.
The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.
The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.
Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.
isn't this the vision that you wanted by nebulastucky
Firelord Zuko - ender of the Hundred Year War, ruler of the Fire Nation, payer of respects and reparations - takes advice and counsel from representatives of every nation, division, and specialty.
But teenage boy Zuko - friend of turtleducks, wielder of fun looking swords, stumbler over words and feet in the presence of cute boys - only listens to two people, and they are conspiring together to ruin him.
or: Iroh just wants what's best for his nephew, and Katara just wants to know everyone's business.
we had a moment, we had a summertime by nebulastucky
Sokka shrugs. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
“You get captured and killed by the Fire Nation,” Toph provides.
“They won’t execute me in a tea shop,” Sokka says around a sudden lump in his throat. “That’d be bad for business.”
or: the one where sokka falls for a tea shop and a boy with too much charm for his own good.
Ignition Point by Yuu_chi
Most people know they're a bender since birth. Sokka just had to discover it at twenty when he accidentally burns his own house down.
Alchemy by mindbending
Sokka (a.k.a the Silent Knight, a.k.a. the sharpest detective in Caldera City) has three cases weighing on his mind.
1.) Zuko, son of the mob boss Ozai, has gone missing under sinister circumstances. 2.) Lee, a teahouse waiter with the face of an angel, wears a scar of mysterious origins. 3.) The Blue Spirit, a lithe and enigmatic cat burglar, keeps stealing into the Fire Nation’s storehouses (not to mention Sokka’s dreams).
Sokka sighs and takes a swig from his special bottle. It’s hard solving three completely unrelated mysteries at the same time...

The Earth King Re-Watch
This was a fun episode. I wouldn't call it one of my favorites, but I enjoyed it. Seeing Aang & Appa finally reunited is pretty heartwarming. I was a little annoyed & confused by Sokka's random new "positive attitude" even though he had some really endearing moments in this episode. I just don't get it. Yeah, Appa is back but you just discovered an underground creepy brainwashing cult & your old frienemy was killed? You have no reason to believe you're any closer to convincing King Kuei to hear you out? I can see the whole "brand new positive attitude" thing happening once the other good news hits later, but right at the start? It just felt jarring & weird.
Katara saying she wants to leave this horrible place....I will take my "Jet's death mattered" crumbs where I can get them. I think Katara & Toph's idea to leave makes a lot of sense, but so does Sokka & Aang's desire to force Kui to hear them out...I mean, they are trying to plan this attack on the eclipse...So, that was a well-set-up conflict, because both sides make sense. I also absolutely loved the fight scene with the Gaang breaking into the palace! Everything about it was iconic. It was neat to see Aang use earth-bending in a fight against earth-benders too because he usually relies heavily on air-bending. I loved Katara & Sokka apologizing lmao - & Toph saying Kue's distrust after they broke in made sense.
Kue is a bit pathetic & easily pushed around so I'm not a huge fan of him. Bumi has a chaotic morality & he's not always the most LIKABLE person but at least he's fun so I always enjoy him. Kue is just pathetic, & not even in the hot way lol
Possibly the best part of the episode was Katara telling Sokka that he gets to see their dad & Sokka bouncing around in excitement & hugging her & kissing her while she's just like "yeah yeah, I know, I'm great."
Tumblr media
[ID: Sokka saying "Nicest....sister...ever!" to Katara while Aang & Toph watch.]
Also, the Gaang talking about how they will miss each other while they're split up was really cute. I loved the group hug & Sokka like "alright alright, we love each other" trying to end the hug was such a mood - me when friends or family try to get all touchy-feely lol! Sokka gets 10 iconic behavior points for interrupting Aang before he could confess his crush on Katara. I wish I was giving out jerk points so I could give them to Aang for the line "yeah, girls are waiting for us." Ugh, pushing the Katara/Aang agenda before Jet's body is even cold? The writers deserve jerk points for that tbh! Not even Aang really, 'cause he's just a kid with a crush, but I'm still allowed to be annoyed.
Anyway. Zuko gets 500 iconic behavior points for doing one nice thing in his entire life & immediately collapsing like a Victorian maiden. Zuko you drama queen, ily. However, while I've said this re-watch has made me appreciate Zukaang I MEANT the romantic ship Zuko & Aang NOT this monstrosity that lives in my nightmares.
Tumblr media
[id: a horrifying image of Zuko & Aang's faces combined.]
What the fuck lmao
As for the rest of Zuko's dreams.....Very interesting lines from Azula & a very interesting performance from our lord & savior Grey Delisle. I will say nothing more about that :)
Tumblr media
[id: Dennis from It's Always Sunny saying "because of the implication..."]
Anyway *ahem* right, I think Zuko clearly sees his father & sister as sort of devils & Iroh as an angel on his shoulder. This is what the writers were going for, & an unpopular opinion maybe but I think it works to an extent. The biggest issue here is that Zuko continues until the end of the series to treat Iroh like a messiah of good & he never learns to view Azula with any more nuance despite evidence that Iroh is not perfect & Azula is not irredeemable. Another issue I take is that while I love Azula as the embodiment of the Fire Nation & that darker path here, especially right before Crossroads of Destiny, & I actually find the shifting of the blame about Ursa's disappearance & by extension Zuko's bad childhood from Ozai to Azula super interesting - it's again, just something that's never addressed as wrong by the narrative & therefore becomes frustrating.
Tumblr media
[id: Azula as a blue dragon next to a scarless Zuko]
I would have liked to see Zuko's black & white way of thinking about his uncle & sister (which is just really obvious here with the angel & devil motifs) addressed by the narrative. However, I don't think the whole "two sides arguing for different paths through dream visions" in itself is bad. It's certainly fun to watch & makes for a nice visualization of Zuko's internal struggle. Oh, Zuko & Azula get +500 iconic behavior points for foreshadowing the Crossroads of Destiny betrayal. I know it's just a fever dream version of Azula, but she still gets the points.
Oh, & Azula, Mai & Ty Lee get 1000 points each for their Kyoshi Warrior surprise reveal at the end. I love them so fucking much.
Anyway, that's all I have for this episode! Tune in next time for more rambling thoughts on the kid's cartoon!

So I got your take on Padme. I still like anidala as a fairytale romance and think if the circumstances were better then they could have worked things out like any other couple. However, fics involving Leia and now Padme are making me inexplicably frustrated. So I wanted to ask again what kind of woman you could see him with. You mentioned I think someone also with trauma (disagree a bit with that) and/or someone from a similar class (agree).
I could see Anakin being with a kind of down-to-earth girl maybe from a working or middle-class family. Someone still sweet and feminine like Padme but kind of tomboyish and not afraid to rough it out. Someone with a big heart but still sassy (a bit like Leia or maybe a bit like Toph from Avatar). Maybe she has a relatively big family who welcomes Anakin in like one of their own even if he is not her husband yet (he deserves a loving family so much damn it!). Someone who takes the time to listen to his fears and concerns without brushing them aside.
In return maybe she is a bit self-conscious about her looks or talents. Or people looked down on her due to her family's financial problems. Given how Anakin is with Padme, I think Anakin praising this girl for her inner and outer beauty would be a lot sweeter. It's easy to call a well-off girl with pretty clothes and ready access to beauty supplies "an angel" after all. And given his past as a slave, he would be the perfect guy to reassure her of her worth.
Just a rough idea, but I would like your take on it! I think Padme did Anakin a disservice in so many ways. Sometimes it is not a good idea to pair two traumatized people together although I do see where you are coming from. But I believe someone less privileged but still emotionally steadfast would be a good match.
@fanfic-lover-girl
Oh I love this idea!
And yes Anakin needed someone who could understand and relate to his trauma. Padme tried but she just couldn’t bridge the gap between her lack of understanding of Anakins suffering and his impatience with her ignorance. She tended to brush anakins trauma under the rug until it burst. Anakin needed an understanding empathetic partner who came from the same kind of cloth and a good therapist. That’s just my opinion though.
Someone who experienced similar trauma would be ideal. Anakin desperately needed someone who would help him face his issues, not burry them. Someone who would support and defend him, while helping him feel safe enough to reveal his inner insecurities. A therapist would be a must though, no matter what. No partner can be a stand in for a good therapist experienced with CPTSD or BPD. A partner who knows and can help Anakin with triggers would be most ideal. He can’t help being triggered but he can be taught to manage his triggers in a healthy way with a partner who can comfort him but also talk through the trauma with him. Boy or Girl, this person needs to have an idea of Anakins mental illness, and be willing to take the journey of self discovery with him. Ideally? They’d also be adventurous and a bit possessive. Anakins sense of love comes from a bit of possessiveness (not totally unhealthy but can become unhealthy, he’s a bit codependent from the loss of attachments, hence the BPD) and someone who doesn’t mind him being clingy.

Okay so I was thinking about Avatar and Seventeen and what kind of benders they would be so here we go.
Seungcheol:
I see this man as a fire bender
Like he’s very loving and caring but can be a badass at any moment
kind of reminds me of Zuko ngl
Jeonghan:
water bender
he’s very calm and relaxed like water
He’s very angelic
Hell he could be a water spirit for all we know
Joshua:
Air bender
Joshua is a peaceful person
Jisoos christ (i mean come on)
I could see joshua just casually bending himself in the air playing the guitar
Jun:
air bender
aang, was know to be very care free and serious when he had to be and i feel that resembles jun a lot
aang also does a lot of dumb shit in the show, you can’t tell me that doesn’t fit jun.
Hoshi
fire bender
KWON FIRE!!!
hoshi just reeks fire bender in the best ways possible
hoshi is the kind of fire bender that would find ways to accidentally burn himself trying to make a fire tiger
Wonwoo:
water bender
wonwoo just has that vibe of being calm and concentrated you know
i also feel like wonwoo would go to rivers to practice his bending
i also feel like he would learn how to blood bend and fuck around with the other members just for shits and giggles
Woozi
earth bender
okay hear me out on this one
woozi reminds me a lot of toph, in the fact the toph listens to her surrounding and is able to see with needing her eyes which makes me think of woozi and how he writes music
woozi is the kind of person to chuck rocks at hoshi whenever he does something dumb
i also feel like if he got annoyed he’d make a wall dividing him from everyone else
The8:
water bender
he would create art with water, don’t test me on that
The8 is the kind of water bender that would study until he’s pure perfection
he would splash water on you if you annoy him
Mingyu:
earth bender
i mean... he’s a tall toned man, he could push boulders and lift continents.
actual earth king
he would be super strong but the biggest kluts ever
might get hit with a rock he bended
DK:
Fire Bender
DK just has that vibe of being a fire demon if he really wanted to but also a softy at times
I feel like DK would burn himself on multiple occasions
Vernon
Air Bender
I mean it's Vernon of course he'd be an air bender
he's very chill and he would find ways to slack off with his air bending skills
Dino
Fire Bender
Come on he's a ball of burn fire and passion how could he not be?
Also he could be the avatar he's a multitalented king

Rendered by myself Rage of Angels is a future sidestory of Little Miss Savage and either the first or second story in the Demonoids series (depending on if I do Yulaan's backstory first or not). It most likely will come second due to being a major follow-up to the events of Yulaan's early life. The story centrally follows Yulaan's return to Planet Gorta after being directly visited by Drugatsko while on Planet Earth. Drugatsko is the Ultra-Khan of the Devastators, a blood-god-empress of Planet Suiza, and a prime bolloi who lives up to the more ultraviolent ideals of the Yabans. However, she has a proposition for Yulaan, who is a minor celebrity among Yabans as the Butcher of Gorta due to having cleared the planet of sapient life at only 12 years old. There's this breakaway group of Devastators who call themselves the Chaos Angels: a warlord named Yasimbata wants to overthrow Drugatsko and reformat the Devastators under his rule and the rule of his four generals, the Four Star Lords. By chance, they established their base of operations on Planet Gorta. Drugatsko offers Yulaan an opportunity to go on a brutal killing spree against these traitors on her old stomping grounds, and she obviously accepts. The order is to wipe out all life on Gorta once more. However, Yulaan discovers quickly that the Chaos Angels have brought off-world slaves and maidens to Gorta, and, stained by her time on Earth-Prime as well as her own Titanist warrior honor, she instead chooses against killing noncombatants. This complicates her journey but doesn't thwart it entirely. Along the way, a Devastator boy and budding martial artist named Skullcrusher tags along with her, eager to prove his own mettle and fight his own people (it's not unnoticed that Yulaan and Skullcrusher literally share the same name). So does Yoshua, Death's Shadow and the Swordsman of the Black Dragon. These three form a considerable power trio bringing death and brutal justice to Gorta. The story's basically Hokuto no Ken but even bloodier and with Yulaan as a morally-gray female Kenshiro as she wipes out the Chaos Angels. Skullcrusher would probably best be described as the Feral Child from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior meets Toph Beifong, while Yoshua is clearly Legally-Not-Hiei with shades of Piccolo Jr. The names for the Four Star Lords are the best part: • Warmaster Kombaticus • Demon Supreme Ozzy • Killkamesh • Genocide Man Yulaan vs. Warmaster Kombaticus is a fight I've actually half-written out already just for fun because it's pure hypermasculine shlock, a one-on-one post-apocalyptic wuxia fistfight that'd make Gray Fox blush. The whole story reeks of hypermasculinity. In fact, despite the fact that the Chaos Angels bring alien maidens onto Gorta for a bit of the old ultraviolence, Yulaan is often the only female person for thousands of miles. It's a tale more sausage-flavored than a wiener factory in ancient Greece, or at least it would be if not for its lead protagonist. The homoeroticism is off the charts, and it's blatantly obvious with this fight because Yulaan and Kombaticus fight in the latter's kinky-looking death chamber, a place filled with whips and chains. Kombaticus is the one who orgasms to the thrills and joys of combat, speaking of how angry it makes him that a female could possibly share the same thrill despite also being elated to fight a bolloi, the universe's premier female warriors. He is a man who obsesses over what it means to be a warrior. He shares Yulaan's philosophy completely, and he steadfastly refuses to even consider the idea of calling for reinforcements or using a weapon. True warriors fight hand-to-hand, one on one. In this chamber, he considers Yulaan a man, so he also says man to man. He adores the idea of rippling muscle, torn and bloody hands, bleeding eyes, bruised and sweaty skin clashing, and iron wills throwing sparks. This is what all true warriors strive for. Yulaan vs. Demon Supreme Ozzy is a tougher one as Ozzy is a warmaster of great skill and power who leads his men to evil conquest. He's been in wars where the humans wound up being better orcs than the actual orcs all because of him. Demon Supreme Ozzy also summons demons and revenants, using necromancy to reanimate the men who are killed, both slain allies and vanquished foes. Every dead man will rise again. He who is killed will stand and kill. Those he kills will rise and kill! Hell Overwhelming!! The warp of ultimate chaos and madness drives these men wild with bloodlust and combat ecstasy. Ozzy can also impose Getavara's Laughter upon them, putting his men into a state of wicked nexcidious bloodfreaking. They are so sick with rage, they communicate in wrathful caveman grunts and violence, and, much like Feral Yabans and Vedar Mazoku, they are no longer even fully sapient, instead living 100% on ultraviolent impulse. Yulaan relishes such hordes. She's played loads of zombie video games and zerg rush games precisely because her own nexcidium gives her endless pleasure at the thought of a never-ending rush of enemies. As for the Demon Supreme himself, he's little else than a classic xianxia sorcerer/necromancer, which is always fun. Yulaan vs. Killkamesh is really a three-on-two battle and the closest the story gets to full-on wuxia as the Chinese would do it, since Yoshua leads this battle and Killkamesh is a swordsman as well, so there's a lot of qi-powered swordplay. Almost certainly, this won't be a Yulaan kill. This battle also plays with the idea of honor as well, as Killkamesh shares Kombaticus's warrior philosophy. Yulaan and Killkamesh don't really want their companions in their battles, but they wouldn't do as well as they do without them. But otherwise, as mentioned, this is a fairly standard wuxia fight, largely between a Mazoku and a dark-hearted human. Yulaan vs. Genocide Man is the craziest one of all. Genocide Man is downright loony. He's assaulted so many women and young boys that his privates became cancerous and he had to cut it all off, leaving him sexually unsatisfied for the rest of his life. But in becoming an unwilling eunuch, he's actually become even stronger. He is freaky, he's gone crazy. He does the Madman Dance we see with Arthur Brown, goes full "Liar," and wiggles and twists like he's on LSD. Plus he captures both of his eyes open with little claws, a self-inflicted Clockwork Orange. He moves fast enough to be a blur, like when he shakes his face. He can't sleep or rest anymore, and this permanent wakefulness has caused his mind to deteriorate further. He's gone full freak-o, and when he resurrects after his first battle ends badly for him, he breaks his hands to push the bones through the skin, and then uses his bone-skewer fists to beat up Yoshua. He does the same to his legs and feet, causing Yoshua to be bloodied up heavily. Despite Yoshua being stronger, he's still overwhelmed because Genocide Man is loco. He am become death. He can't take it. It's time for maximum over-violence. There's obviously a bunch of lesser lieutenants and common mooks working for the Four Star Lords that Yulaan/the trio take their time to dispatch, giving Rage of Angels something of a "fight of the week" quality in between the arcs against the generals, all leading up to the final fight against Yasimbata. It's a pretty tragic waste of life wrought by psychotic war lust all things considered, but it makes for a fun story! It's a horrible story about horrible people doing horrible things, and I can't wait to write it. Just to hammer home a point: Sol Yulaan is evil, she is a bad guy, she is one of the villains, she is currently acting as a henchman for the very evil Drugatsko, and the Yulaanverse of stories is essentially a subfranchise about a nameless henchman who does quote-unquote "good" deeds because she fancies doing them at that particular moment. She chooses against killing noncombatants out of her own personal honor, but still took on the job of exterminating the sapient life of an entire planet without hesitation. A planet whose sapient life she had already exterminated once before. She might be docile around Earthlings, but that’s because she has to be.

An update to this piece! I told you I’d get round to it eventually … there’s just two more little additions to go but I’m really pleased with it so far. Toph was my absolute favourite to draw, and I love that Aang is fully loving watching Katara (his one true love) and Zuko dance together as friends . Click for Quality :)
Reblogs are appreciated, please no reposting without asking :)
Image ID below:
A digital sketch of Katara and Zuko dancing on a wooden dock in the sea, they are dancing in an energetic, circle like motion, joined at the fingertips. Katara is wearing blue water tribe garb, with her hair down and she is looking towards the viewer. Zuko has a red shirt on and darker red shorts, he has his back to the viewer, but the scared side of his face showing. Both Katara and Zuko are smiling. Aang is resting his forearms on the dock after swimming in the sea. He wears no top and is grinning that crooked avatar smile up at Katara.
Further back on the dock, and to the left of Zuko and Katara, are Sokka and Suki, who are walking hand in hand. Sokka is on the left and is wearing his blue water tribe garb, his hair is tied back into a wolf tail and he looks down at Suki while talking and smiling. Suki is wearing a long green tunic and darker green leggings underneath, she is smiling at what Sokka is saying. In her hand, she holds a golden fan, which is open and she is using to fan herself.
In the far background there is a green grassy hill, and in the closer background, there is a brown-green coloured field with a tree in it. In front of this tree is Toph who is lying on the ground in a starfish position. Toph is wearing her green clothes as in the show and is making an Earth angel on the ground, she has a content smile on her face.

the gaang according to kanna
katara: her angel baby her everything!!! she was a pain to raise bc she was always either up in arms about something or attempting to do something stupidly dangerous but kanna wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world. she reminds her so much of herself at that age that it makes her cry sometimes. she is so proud of her beautiful amazing granddaughter, and she loves her more than anything.
sokka: when he was a kid he was a bright, curious presence who was full of joy and wit, but after the southern raiders came, he became depressive, grumpy, and serious. she appreciates that he is very responsible, but she wishes he could remember how to be a kid. she doesn’t understand him or connect with him as much as she does with katara, but he’s her grandson, and she loves him very much.
aang: she adores him, and he adores her in turn. they tell each other stories of what the world was like long ago, and stories about katara and sokka that the other wasn’t there to experience firsthand. she incorporates more vegetarian options into her cooking so that aang can always be well-fed when he comes to visit, and he appreciates her greatly for it. out of all of her grandkids’ friends, he is indisputably her favorite.
suki: almost immediately after meeting suki she tells her to call her gran gran and starts treating her like a surrogate granddaughter. after all, she can tell that she’s going to be with sokka forever, even if they’re never gonna do the whole “marriage” thing. suki is hilarious and lovely and adorable and incredibly strong. kanna is very glad sokka has someone like her by his side, and she tells him as much, to which sokka beams and wholeheartedly agrees.
zuko: she forgives him almost immediately because by the time she meets him again he has clearly changed so much, not to mention that her grandkids clearly adore him, and he clearly worships them. he’s still kinda scared of her though, and overly respectful, which kind of annoys her because she’s not used to that fire nation brand of politeness and the almost unfamiliar deference with which he treats her kind of feels cold. that said, she can tell he’s a good kid who means well. he loves her grandkids more than anything—and at least they can agree on that.
toph: a very elusive presence to kanna, as she very rarely visits the south pole, but she does feature prominently in all of sokka’s favorite stories, as this little ghost is apparently sokka’s best friend in the world. oh well. even if kanna doesn’t know the girl very well, she’s at least glad that she makes her grandson happy. spirits know he deserves it.
appa: the first time she meets aang’s sky bison she sheds a tear remembering that time she saw a small, stray herd in a valley somewhere on the edges of the earth kingdom that she passed through when she was sixteen. she never thought she’d get the opportunity to see another one of these majestic creatures ever again. appa can immediately sense how much she means to aang and katara and sokka, and licks her from head to toe. kanna doesn’t mind.
momo: she finds it very amusing how he seems to have a different relationship with each of her grandkids and their friends. they all talk to him as if he is a person and a friend, and very soon she adopts this habit too. he is her little baby boy and she loves to dote on him.
yue: apparently the moon is also a friend of theirs. katara tells her what sokka will not. she finds herself deeply moved by yue’s story, one she can relate to herself. she’s glad that yue found freedom in her own way. and she’s glad that sokka, her stubborn skeptic, has finally made a spiritual connection in his own way, albeit a characteristically unconventional one.

Yes hi, I'd love to know more about your tourettes sokka hc if you're up for it 👀 I'm starving for tourettes hcs so 👀
Oh boy oh boy oh boy!! I can talk about this SO MUCH (I will warn now, there will be some Zukka in this) okay so I guess I’ll start at the beginning...
Sokka was six when he started showing symptoms
It started with just some motor tics but everyone kind of just attributed it to this kid has a lot of energy ahhh
It became more noticeable when he kept almost killing himself with weapons because of his tics and slight carelessness
That’s one reason why he loves boomerang so much, none of the other weapons felt right to him and they would always get in the way of his tics, but he could throw boomerang and it would come back to him so he could keep throwing it and it made him feel calm
Then, Sokka started saying stuff that he didn’t mean to say, but again, everyone was just like hyper kid because it’s not like he was doing anything wrong
But they realized something was up when Sokka started yelling “FIRE NATION” without intending to and sending the whole tribe in a panic
So, Hakoda took Sokka to a nearby trustworthy Earth Kingdom village and that’s where Sokka got diagnosed with Tourette’s (and ADHD)
One of the things with Sokka is touch, like, he feels like touch is constricting and restraining sometimes. The problem is, he LOVES touch, he is a touchy person, but when someone touches him without telling him first or asking him, he doesn’t like it.
Sometimes he mentally shuts down when it happens, sometimes he tics more, the reaction depends on his anxiety levels and who touched him and when and where
The only people he gave a pass to was Kya and Katara. He didn’t even like it when Hakoda put a hand on his shoulder.
It was weird, he could feel the difference when Katara and Kya touched him compared to anyone else and he felt bad because he wanted his dad to hug him, but it felt so wrong
So, Sokka loves touch, but he likes to initiate it
So, moving forward, Sokka and Katara meet Aang, he’s the Avatar, they join and you know, there’s Aang the Avatar, Katara the Waterbender, and Sokka the guy with Tourette’s on the team
At least, that’s how they are known amongst the Fire Nation
Going undercover is so fun for Sokka, but he also has to be really conscious of what he’s doing and what he says and trying to suppress
It takes a lot out of him, but he knows he literally has to do it or he could get caught or expose them and Aang or Katara could get caught
On occasion, he has tic attacks (and for those who don’t know, they’re essentially a really bad TS day or moment where your tics are more consistent and seem to hurt more or you just have like an unending moment of tics where you just can’t stop for a little while. They are usually caused by anxiety or overstimulation or something like that, but they differ for everyone with TS)
The first time it happened in front of Aang, the sweet child panicked because he didn’t really understand what was happening and why Sokka was doing that and really what TS was
Katara is an angel, seriously. She is so sweet to Sokka when this happens and she knows exactly how to ground him and help him get through it
(Seriously, Sokka appreciates her so much. She is genuinely the one exception and anytime she wants a hug or any kind of touch she is allowed to do it)
the first time it happens in front of Toph when she joins is in Bitter Work when Sokka was in the hole
Just looking at Sokka in the whole sends my anxiety up because he literally can’t move! So like, imagine being in a hole for like five hours+ and needing to move like physically and you can feel the sensation in your body and it hurts and burns and tingles but you can’t. Sokka is not having a good time
So, Toph drags him out of the hole and is freaked out because she can’t see what’s happening and it’s scary because Sokka is making noises and hyperventilating and his heart rate is through the roof and Aang ran to get Katara and she can’t touch him because when she pulled him out of the hole he shrieked
She’s cool with it after that, she doesn’t think of him any less or anything, but it terrified her the first time because no one told her he had TS because they forgot to mention it and she couldn’t see what was happening
We all know that Sokka loves Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors with his whole entire heart and once they kicked his butt and helped him learn that sexism is bad, they were so fun to work with?? They taught him their style, obviously, but they also helped him incorporate his TS into it and how to use it to his advantage, something he had been struggling with his whole life
One of the things Sokka loved most about Yue is that she never even mentioned his sounds or movements she just let him do it without questioning him and that doesn’t happen a lot
I feel like Sokka having TS would make his time with Piandao even kore meaningful because he really struggles to keep his hands still so sword fighting does not come naturally to him
Piandao loves it though because it just makes Sokka even more clever and resourceful and he takes his time with Sokka, helping him as much as he can and never getting angry or anything when he can’t stand still
He also added more to what Sokka learned from the Kyoshi Warriors about incorporating his TS into his fighting and using it to his advantage
Not only was his sword an extension of his arm, but his TS was an extension as well
Did Toph and Aang help Sokka incorporate his tics into their scams? Yes, yes they did
Zuko joining the team was weird for Sokka because they kind of just clicked and he realized that they both have a weird thing with touch
On the balloon to Boiling Rock, Sokka is just comfortable around Zuko and his tics are like “cool yeah, have a break” and so he doesn’t tic and Zuko just “why aren’t you ticcing?”
and Sokka is ??? “Huh?”
and Zuko “You usually tic but you aren’t now. Why?”
and Sokka essentially explains that TS is weird and random and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t, but he’s really comfortable and calm so his body is like “ye, let’s chill for now”
and Zuko is like “oh. that’s good. I kinda miss it though”
and Sokka d i e s because what?? Someone likes his tics enough to miss them? Like, they don’t annoy Zuko and he doesn’t tune them out?
and the bender goes on to explain that he likes the noises, they remind him that he is doing the right thing and that he’s here and he didn’t hurt team Avatar and they’re just comfortable / pleasing to the ear
and Sokka DIES
but then Zuko is like mmm maybe you should stay in the balloon and I’ll go to Boiling Rock and Sokka got pissed because he thinks Zuko said it because he’s a nonbender and he starts panicking and ticcing and Zuko panics and kind of just grabs his hand and Sokka... Sokka doesn’t hate it? Like, it feels nice and doesn’t agitate him?
but Zuko was like no I mean because everyone in the Fire Nation guard knows about the guy on team Avatar with TS and I don’t want you to get hurt
At one point in the prison courtyard, Sokka verbally tics really loudly about the moon and some guards hear and head to where they are so Zuko covers for him by screaming about how much he loves the moon
One of the worst moments in Sokka’s life was when Toph was falling and he grabbed her, but he wanted to tic and he knew that if he did, Toph would fall and die and he couldn’t do that, he couldn’t
(he still has nightmares about it happening)
when Sokka becomes an ambassador, some people are pissed because well 1) Watertribe 2) he’s a child 3) they suck 4) they think he’s distracting with his tics and Zuko is not here for it so he will destroy them
Like one time (after they started dating) Zuko overheard some councilors mocking Sokka’s tics and he got PISSED like so pissed and he went off and the found Sokka and hugged him because he is allowed to
oh! Sokka and Zuko’s thing is like hand-holding okay? They both kind of hate it because weird touch stuff, but it’s okay when they do it to each other?? Like, it feels right and like they’re completed and whole and it’s nice
before they start dating, they kind of do it a lot. Like, night before Zuko’s coronation, Sokka finds Zuko and he’s freaking out because what if he ends up like his dad and Sokka kind of just... grabs his hand and they sit there
Sokka is panicking because chronic pain and the cold of home makes it worse and Zuko finds him crying in the library and just... holds his hand
Zuko keeps little things on him all the time like paperclips and paper and writing utensils and things that click and buttons and stuff so if Sokka looks stressed during a meeting he can slip something under the table to him so he can play with it
Sokka also draws a lot during meetings, like, he doesn’t look at anyone throughout the whole meeting, even when he talks. He is able to focus more and pay more attention when he is doing something with his hands so he draws and doodles and sometimes takes notes
Sometimes he just writes the same word or sentence over and over again throughout the whole meeting
Sokka has sensory issues and a lot of noise stresses him out
It’s kind of the opposite of Zuko’s sensory issues? Like, Zuko doesn’t like loud noises and Sokka doesn’t like kind of static-y noises, like... when things sound muffled or muted or people are talking kind of quietly over each other
(Zuko definitely gives Sokka massages when his tics hurt a lot)
Random, but after awhile “yip yip” became a verbal tic of Sokka’s. Sometimes, he would say “you need to yip yip” and then he’d apologize to Appa and tell him that he’s yipping just fine
Toph is kind of like Zuko in how she likes Sokka’s verbal tics
She can’t see-see, but hearing his tics is nice sometimes, especially when she worries
She likes falling asleep to some of his tics
Even though Katara and Zuko are allowed to touch him whenever they want, more often than not they ask first because friendship is magic
Suki is lovely, okay? Like, just her presence is enough to make him feel better and she approaches helping him in a different way, she just talks to him and asks him questions to help him take his mind off of it
Sokka really doesn’t hate his TS, like, yeah, sometimes it pisses him off more than he can even explain, but it’s a part of him and as much as he cherishes when he can sit still, it’s wrong, it’s not him? He sits weirdly in chairs and changes his position every two minutes, he rocks his legs in his sleep, he sometimes even finds his own tics grounding...
Over time and with help from his friends, he learned to not be ashamed and that having TS didn’t make him ant less of a warrior
also, he, Toph, and Zuko are the disabled club✌🏻(and it makes them feel better sometimes in their own little way)
I have a lot more I could say but this is already pretty long, so I’ll end this sweet with Katara is amazing and Sokka’s relationship with her is wonderful and she knows how to help him with his tics in the way that Zuko does and can help center him like no one else and Sokka just loves her so much
Okay! Ah! That was kind of a lot but I hope you like them! Anyone can feel free to add more to this or lemme know if you have any ideas!
Thank you for the ask! I enjoyed writing these:)

Happy Mondangst! Here's some angsty Kantoph :)
......
“Da.”
“That’s right, baby girl!” he cheered in his most ridiculous baby voice. “Da da! Da da!”
Lin giggled in her father’s arms, and Toph jokingly scoffed at the two from the couch. She lay on her back with her hands behind her head, enjoying the vibrations of the two through the ball of her foot that she kept firmly on the ground. “You two are giving me a headache.”
“C’mon, Toph! It’s Lin’s first word, how can you hate this?”
“First off, she’s babbling. It’s not even words yet. Second, the fact that she’s making ‘D’ sounds instead of ‘M’ is the other reason.” she explained simply. “If she says ‘Dada’ before ‘Mama,’ that’s betrayal right there.”
“Sorry, Angel. I just have that effect on women, I guess.”
“Gross,” she complained, but pointed a smile at him, and she felt his heart quicken ever so slightly and his voice let out a quiet chuckle at their antics.
And when his gaze turned back to Lin, Toph could feel through the earth how at peace he was at that moment. Complete adoration for their baby, and she silently laughed to herself at the thought of him having to deal with Lin as a teenager. Oh, she would have him wrapped around her finger for all of eternity, Toph just knew it.
His voice broke up her thoughts. “Hey, what if we had a little competition?”
Toph said nothing, but raised an eyebrow at him, prompting him to continue. “What if we compete to find out who Linny walks to first?” he asked.
“What are the stakes?”
“If I win, we start trying for another baby.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind?” she laughed.
“And if you win, Lin’s our only perfect little girl.”
“And if she doesn’t walk to either of us??”
“Then we let fate and destiny take over,” he answered rather smugly.
Toph smirked and sat up from her position, ready to playfully protest this silly competition. “You realize that she’s gonna walk to you, right?”
“We don’t know that.”
“Right,” she responded sarcastically. “Lin, the little Daddy’s girl who shares the same birthday as her Baba and whose first words are gonna be ‘Dada’ and ‘Baba.’”
“Mama could be a close third,” he defended.
“Yeah, sure. I’m going to shake on a bet I’m bound to lose.”
“Just a little fun,” he replied, and she could hear the grin in his voice. “Obviously we’ve got time, but, I don’t know. I think it could be fun!”
“You and I have two very different definitions of fun,” she teased.
“But it’s harmless!”
“Harmless?” she laughed. “I could end up fat and pregnant at the end of this!”
“Only if you want to,” he added.
“So this isn’t even a bet at all,” she commented. “It’s just fake stakes on the table.”
She felt him shrug. “Bit of pride on the line, I suppose. What do you say?”
Toph wanted to continue berating him and teasing him, but his heart sang whenever Lin made a noise or reached out for something, and he adored playing little games like this with her. Perhaps deep down in a place that she barely allowed to admit to herself, she could imagine them having another baby. Even if Lin was almost 6 months old, she thought that maybe, just maybe, a family of four would be nice. And when Lin giggled at her father once again, Toph’s resolve to say no to those two disappeared.
Spirits, they had her whole heart, and she couldn’t help but shake her head as she smiled and extended her hand out to him.
“It’s only a bet if we shake on it.”
His silly cheer caused Lin to giggle more, and after he shook Toph’s hand to signify the start of the bet, he playfully kissed each knuckle before Toph mildly complained as she tried to free herself from his grasp.
~~~
They sat on her living room floor, engaged in small talk while they paid attention to Lin’s every move. The elephant koi in the room became a semi-permanent resident in the Beifong house, but everyone learned to live with it, Toph especially.
Sokka carefully treaded every conversation as he supported Lin to standing on her own two feet. Every now and again, his gaze would turn up to Toph to catch her expression. Today it was unreadable, but she sat on the floor with her legs out and leaned back on her arms, a sign of openness.
That was a good sign, right?
The warrior never knew what was good and what wasn’t anymore, because everything reminded them of him. Of Kanto.
And it was unfair, because Toph deserved to go about her life without having to be constantly reminded of the man she loved and lost to a crazy person. But there was no escape; Kanto was at her place of work, at their home, and he was there whenever Lin moved or breathed or learned something new.
None of that seemed to matter to the universe, however, and Toph and Lin and everyone else that loved Kanto lived with the reminder like chronic pain: constant, relentless.
Still, Toph’s body language was more positive than usual, so Sokka took the opportunity to strike up another small conversation.
“So,” he began by clearing his throat. “What do you and Lin have planned for the rest of the day?”
His friend shrugged in response and a nonchalant wave. “Eh, same old shit, Sokka. Maybe I’ll take her to the park. It is a nice day out.”
“How come you only call me Sokka, now?”
Toph shot him a confused look. “Because it’s your name??”
The man rolled his eyes to himself then said, “Well, yeah. I just mean you almost always called me ‘Meathead’ or ‘Snoozles’ or ‘Captain Boomerang.’”
A quiet scoff fell from Toph’s breath, and she dug her knuckles into her earthen floor. “Yeah, well nicknames are for fun times, and I haven’t been in a jovial mood as of late—”
“Toph I just mean—”
“So forgive me if I don’t feel the need to call you by some dumb nickname that reminds me of all the other stupid ones I called him.”
Sokka shut his mouth, but still held onto a bouncing Lin and stared at Toph. Her expression contorted into one of regret, and she let out a tired sigh.
“I’m sorry, Sokka. That was rude.”
“No, Toph, it’s okay,” he reassured her. “I just—”  Sokka paused before he continued. What he wanted was to help his friend and hoped she would return to her old self soon.
But the idea seemed silly after a second thought. How could she go back to her old self? Going back wasn’t an option, only forward, to a different Toph Beifong who loved and lost and learned to adapt to this difficult change.
So instead of saying I just want to help you get back to your old self, he amended his statement. “I just want to help you.”
“I know,” she sighed again as she moved to lie down on the ground. “I know you’re all trying to help.”
And Toph did know that. The whole group seemed bent over backwards in helping her through this mess of her life, and she not only wanted, but needed their help. However, figuring out things that did help seemed to be a challenge, for it all required talking or thinking about him.
She really couldn’t do that at this point, not even nine months after his death.
Saying his name sent her down a spiral of thoughts of longing and regret, the feeling so strong that it tempted her to visit their bedroom again. But she hadn’t stepped into that room since she was dragged out by Sokka, because she wasn’t sure she’d have the strength to leave it a second time.
Instead of visiting their shared bedroom or speaking her dead almost-fiancé’s name or figuring out what could possibly help her through this, she lay on the ground, focusing on the earth’s humming while blocking out all other erratic and uneven vibrations. It was soothing, being completely one with the earth and ignoring everything else. Her mind wasn’t racing, her heart wasn’t hurting, and she felt a feeling that strangely resembled tranqui—
“Toph?”
Her focus was broken, and as annoyed as she was, Toph responded to her friend and asked, “What is it?”
“Are you okay?”
“Stupid question.”
“I just mean—”
“Mama!”
Lin’s interruption pulled Toph further from the earth, and so she waved her hand in the air and exclaimed, “Mama’s right here, Lin. Just wallowing in self-pity as a widow does, although I’m not even sure I can call myself that.”
“Toph,” Sokka began, but Toph continued her useless ramble. “Probably not, since he didn’t even ask me to marry him. Kind of a requirement to be in the mopey widow club, don’t you think? Pathetic, really, I don’t even have a dead fiancé, just a dead baby daddy.”
“Toph—”
“You know what, guess it doesn’t matter I could just—”
“Toph!”
Sokka’s exclamation startled her, but she didn’t move from her spot. She waited for him to continue with whatever was so important to interrupt her self-deprecating monologue, but he didn’t speak again.
Instead, she felt little, uneven, and heavy footsteps toddle toward her. Toph sat upright in an instant, completely shocked at the sensation of Lin walking.
“Go Lin!” Sokka cheered.
Toph cheered as well and held her hands out excitedly to catch her daughter. “C’mere, Lin! You got it!”
And with a few babbles and shouts for Mama, Lin made her way into Toph’s arms.
The earthbender pulled Lin in for a tight hug and smothered her cheek with kisses. “You did it, baby girl! You took your first steps!”
“She’s a natural, Toph! Gonna be running tomorrow,” Sokka teased.
Toph grinned at the thought, and moved to balance Lin’s tiny feet on her knee. She felt Lin squirm in her arms and crane her neck, as if she was looking for someone.
“Dada.”
And with a single exclamaion of Lin’s favorite word, Toph’s heart shattered just as quickly as it soared a moment ago.
…….
Sokka’s grin faded slowly with Toph’s as he watched her realize what Lin wanted. In a second, one of the greatest feelings and feats of Toph’s baby girl turned into a situation of pure grief. And All he wanted was for his best friend to have a single fucking moment not be ruined by the memory of losing Kanto.
But that was impossible. Every accomplishment was tainted with this memory, and there was nothing to do but accept that harsh reality.
He watched Toph suddenly become overwhelmed by the grief. She bit her quivering lip as she combed through Lin’s hair over and over, fixating on a few curly strands at the top of her head.
They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity, all the while Lin kept asking for her dad. Sokka was about to intervene, but then Toph let out a quiet breath and answered Lin.
“Yeah, Lin. Dada would be so proud of you right now.” She formed a small, sorrowful smile at Lin while tears fell down her cheeks. “I’d rub it in his face, too.” Toph choked out a chuckle, then continued, “But Baba isn’t here anymore, baby girl. It’s just you and me.
“Don’t worry, kiddo. All your aunts and uncles will be around to bother us, especially this Meathead over there, okay?”
When she pointed a finger at Sokka, Lin turned to see, and smiled at him. And Sokka found himself grinning back at Lin for only a second. For when he turned his gaze to Toph, he saw her tear-stricken face and any signs of happiness left Sokka’s face.
He saw Toph hastily wipe at her eyes, then stood up with Lin in her arms. “Thanks for uh, coming by, Sokka. But Lin and I are gonna spend some time together alone.”
She walked out into the backyard before he could even protest.
Sokka didn’t move from his spot, however. He just sat there, thinking and wondering and hoping there was something he could do to help his friend. But she was a silent sufferer, carrying the burden of grief everywhere she went and barely let on what hurt the most about it all. As a bystander, it hurt Sokka to see her shoulder it all. What was he to do, though?
He let out a tired sigh. Sometimes there was nothing to do but be there, even if it made him feel useless.
……
“You’re  a terrible listener.”
Sokka ignored her jab and sat down next to her, Lin bouncing gleefully in her spot in front of her mother. He gave her elbow a light nudge and replied, “I know, but I know you don’t actually want to be alone.”
“I just said—”
“Listen, Toph. We don’t have to talk about it, about any of it. But you’re like me, okay? I don’t like talking about what’s bothering me, but that doesn’t mean solitude is the answer.”
Toph bit her lip as she considered the offer, but made no outright objections to his presence. So they sat there, silent and contemplative about everything and nothing in particular.
It wasn’t until minutes of silence (and little babbles and single words from Lin) that Toph finally spoke. She chose her words carefully, as if saying the wrong thing would send her down a rabbit hole of despair. But Sokka watched her and steadied her with a reassuring hand to her shoulder.
Toph gave a sad smile as she spoke and played with Lin’s wavy hair. “We, uh, we made a stupid bet.
“He liked these silly games and it made him so fucking happy, I didn’t think twice about them. And it gave us a reason to be competitive, and you know how we would get with this shit. Still, they were harmless.”
She hastily wiped her eyes then continued, “But then he wanted to have a bet on who Lin would walk to first, and he said that if Lin walked to him, we’d try for another baby. If she walked to me, no more kids.”
Toph let out a sorrowful chuckle as she slightly hung her head low and let the tears fall in her lap. Sokka’s eyes grew misty at the thought. A silly bet turned into a reminder for Toph, and it felt cruel.
But then Toph took in a deep breath and brought her head back up, pointing her gaze toward the warrior. “You know what’s even crazier? I was gonna let him win. Under the illusion I was upset, of course.”
Sokka softly chuckled at that.
Lin cried out and turned to face Toph, who gently rubbed her daughter’s chubby cheeks. Sokka still sat there, hand on Toph’s shoulder, and watched through his blurred vision his best friend continue to open up to him.
She sighed again. “I’d let him win all the silly games if it meant—”
Her sentence was left unfinished, but nothing else needed to be said. Toph pulled in Lin to an embrace, breathing deeply into her hair as the gravity began to weigh heavy on the pair.
Toph mindlessly played with Lin’s soft curls. “But I guess all bets are off, or I win them all now.
“I don’t feel like the winner, though, Sokka.”
Sokka’s grip tightened on Toph’s shoulder as his sign of support, because he truly had no words. All he could do was sit and stare and hope that there would be something on the horizon to look forward to.
And yet, in that very same moment, he couldn’t help but silently admire Toph’s strength. Her ability to carry on and raise Lin while facing practically an insurmountable amount of grief was something that couldn’t be overlooked. He’d seen his friend show great feats of strength and resilience in the past, but in the back of his mind, he thought that perhaps this was the greatest one of all.
Still, he’d be damned if he was going to let her face this mountain on her own. So they sat there silently once again as Sokka’s hand remained on her shoulder, reminding her that he was there no matter what. He would be there to help her and to hold onto her through it all.
She deserved that. She deserved that and much more, but this was their reality. It would have to do.
Tumblr media
In the dead of night, Zuko can hear the quiet chirps of various animals by his balcony. When he was younger, the night was filled with dread. He’d wonder if his father would come in, sure to yell at him over something else he’d found wrong in Zuko’s work, or if Azula would quietly work her way past his door, smirk on her face and deceit in her eyes. Now, he lies awake in his bed with only his thoughts to keep him awake. God, do they keep him awake.
Next to him, she’s softly asleep. Sheets pool around her waist, bending and twisting around her. It reminds him of the river he’d first met her by, when she’d heard him approaching and let the water she’d been playing with lightly splash beside her. The way the sheets fall—satin soft upon her skin—she almost doesn’t seem real, like every inch of her has been formed by moonlight itself.
He supposes that’s fitting. With how the moon and waterbenders work and all.
She turns then in her sleep, facing towards him now. The moonlight trickling in kisses parts of her exposed torso, and then up her arms as she moves them, choosing to wrap them delicately around Zuko.
There is no denying it, she’s everything that’s good in the world. Laughter like a melody, eyes like the pretty night sky, hands soft and cool against his skin.
Nights like these are the ones where he wonders if he truly deserves her.
He tries not to let it get to him. Tries not to think about what he’s done to Aang, or Katara, or Sokka, or Toph. Or hell, Iroh. But every time he looks into their eyes, no matter how long it’s been, he feels that pang of guilt, feels the weight of every word he’s said, every ember he ever sent their way.
But her water—her delicate touch—he’s only ever seen it used as a force of good. Raised in the Northern Water Tribe, she’d only ever been taught to heal. She’d picked up ways to fight, purely through watching the men of the tribe from afar—she’s smart like that—but there’s only so far you can go without a proper teacher.
There was one night, in the depths of Ba Sing Se, near the Jasmine Dragon, that she’d sat with him on the ledge of the bridge. She bent the water up and around his fingers, letting it intertwine with his hands. She said she wanted him to know what it was like to feel the water pass over him gently. Now, whenever he sat by the pond in the palace courtyard, he’d let his hand rest over the water, just so he could feel like she was there.
Zuko’s done nothing in his life to deserve as much tranquility as he feels when she lets her water rest on his skin. Nothing to deserve the way her cool hands run up and down his skin as she falls asleep. There’s nothing he could’ve done to deserve this—in this life or the next.
She stirs then, moving so her head can rest on his chest. Her hand moves to lay over his heart, and then he feels her sigh.
“Still not sleeping?” She whispers. Her voice offers a warmth he’s never felt before, sweet like the pastries Sokka raves about so often.
“How can I when there’s an angel sleeping next to me?” His words sit in the air for a moment, and he feels the way heat creeps up his neck as he laughs at himself. “Sorry, that was bad.”
“You’ll get it next time,” She replies, her smile dripping into her voice. She moves again, propping her head up on his chest so she can look at him.
Even in the dark, he can tell how completely undeserving he is of her. Her fingers still move back and forth, tracing little patterns onto his skin, and her eyes are trained on him—head tilted and expression curious.
He wonders if he’s a good person on nights like these, wonders if he can ever truly atone for the so many wrongs he’s committed in his life. When she’s sleeping next to him, such angelic and otherworldly beauty about her—such witty intellect and sweet kindness—he knows he’ll never be the good person he strives to be. He’ll never be as good as she is to him.
Her hand comes up to the right side of his face, her thumb just below his good eye, fingers cupping his jaw.
“What are you thinking about, Zuko?” Her voice is low, barely more than a whisper, but raspy and barely there, all the same.
The words are caught in his throat as he looks at her. Part of him wonders if she even knows the true extent of his atrocities. Sure, he’s told her just about everything, but there’s no other explanation for how someone so undoubtedly good could let herself fall like this.
His voice cracks over the words as he tries to speak, so he sighs, leaning his head back against the pillow before he tries again.
His voice still cracks, and he’s quieter than he intended, but he’s afraid that if he’s any louder-
Well, he doesn’t want to think about that.
“What if I’m still a bad person? Or if I go back to how I used to be?” The silence falls between them again. He looks away from her, biting the inside of his cheeks. “It’s happened before.”
“Zuko, no,” She begins. Her hand had fallen from his face to his neck, and now she moves once more, making him sit up so she can sit in his lap facing him.
Of course, he complies. He can’t imagine ever saying no to her.
“There is not a single part of you that could make me believe you’re the same person now that you were when you were sixteen.” Her hand moves down to his chest, where his scar sits. Most of the time, it’s covered, but tonight it was warm, and the air moving from the balcony made him want to sleep without his shirt and so-
So her fingers are running their cool touch over the scarred flesh. It doesn’t hurt, but at the memory, he winces.
“The sixteen year-old Zuko—the one before this scar, the one before the dragons and the one before Ba Sing Se—he never would’ve asked a question like that. Bad people don’t wonder if they’re bad people, they just are.”
Zuko brings one of his hands down to hers, letting them both cover the scar. His other hand rests delicately on her waist, holding the sheets around her as she sits up.
“Do you think I can ever make up for everything I did?” Zuko asks.
Her head tilts, and her hands fall down him, finally coming to a stop on his own hips. And, without much of a warning, she wraps her arms around him, letting her head rest on his shoulder. As she moves in, he wraps his arms around her, careful to still hold onto the sheets he has wrapped around her—she’s always run a little colder than he does.
Her whispers are warm, her honeyed breath against his ear.
“I don’t know.” Zuko’s heart drops, and he pulls her tighter, closing his eyes as he buries his face into the crook of her neck.
If he doesn’t, he fears he’ll cry.
“But I also don’t know if it’s about atonement. What you did in your past—that’s already happened. There are people who may never trust the Fire Nation ever again, but you’re rebuilding. I think that, for now, it’s about reinvention and rebirth. Not everything you do is going to be perfect, you’re going to question yourself and your motives every second, and you’re going to wonder if you’ll ever make it up.
“But Zuko, you’ll never make it up to everyone. And you’ve already made it up to the people who matter. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Iroh—they all know who you are. You’re the best person with the biggest heart and you care. God, do you care.”
“And you?” He whispers.
She pulls away, humming a question as her eyebrows furrow.
“Have I made it up to you?”
Her laughter is breathless, nothing more than rushed air and for a moment, he wonders if he said something funny.
But then her hands come up to his face again, thumbs against his cheekbones, her right hand careful against his scar.
“You have done nothing but prove to me that you are the kindest, most deserving person on this Earth. Zuko you-“
She pauses, pursing her lips and looking up to the ceiling for a moment. He notices how moonlight reflects off of the tears brimming her eyes.
“You’ve done more than made it up to me. There is not a single thing you haven’t atoned for, and there’s not a single moment when I’ve questioned your benevolence.”
And now tears are brimming his eyes, so he goes to looks down, letting her hands fall to his shoulders now. She moves close again, lips close to his ear.
“I love you,” She whispers, voice coarse and rough but entirely there. She pauses to press her lips to his cheekbone. “With my entire life, body, and soul, I love you.”
With those words, he moves, kissing her sweetly. One of his hands rests on her neck and jaw, fingers intertwining with her hair.
Between breaths, he whispers confessions. Most of them about how much he loves her, others about how every aspect of her leaves him wishing that his time spent here were endless.
But he always returns with the same thought.
I love you,
with my body, heart, and soul, I love you.
I love you as long as your water flows and my embers burn.
I love you as long as the air continues to kiss the surface of the Earth.
I’ll love you for as long as time allows.
In this one, and in the next.
playing with fire pt. 6 [sokka]
Tumblr media
Pairing: Sokka x reader
Summary: You’re a Fire Nation citizen who saves Sokka and Katara from some angry villagers. Aang “convinces” you to come along with them, finding your knowledge of the nation useful. Not everything is smooth sailing though as both Water Tribe siblings have their doubts about you.
this will be a series :D this is a filler tbh
They reacted instantaneously.
In unison, Aang and Katara gasped, their jaws hanging as they stared at you. Sokka’s eyes widened as he took multiple steps back, trying to put as much distance as possible between the two of you. Your heart dropped slightly at their reactions, noticing the distrust that was beginning to creep into their eyes.
Toph was the only one who didn’t react.
“You mean you dunderheads didn’t know?” she cried out, a disbelieving expression on her face. You all turned to her, curious expressions on your face. Even though she couldn’t see you, she knew you were all staring at her confusedly.
“You did?” Aang asked, looking at Toph suspiciously.
“Yes! Why else would my parents get all weird and proper around her?” Toph replied. “Besides, the name (Y/N) isn’t exactly the most common. I knew she had to be the Princess. Why do you think I’ve been calling her ‘Princess’?! Haven’t you ever seen a portrait of the royal family?”
Silence ensued as the Gaang realized that they had, in fact, never seen a picture of the Fire Nation royal family. In Aang’s defense, he had been gone for an exceptionally long time and there were no pictures of the family down in the South Pole. They all shifted their gazes back to you, now a little more curious than distrustful.
“So you’re a princess?” Aang asked, trying to wrap his head around the news. You nodded silently. “Then why are you here with us?”
“It’s a long story,” you whispered, looking back down at the ground.
“Well we have time so start talking,” Katara said brusquely. You sighed softly, motioning for everyone to sit with you. Katara looked at you weirdly, crossing her arms stubbornly before gaping as Aang and Sokka took seats near you.
“Aw loosen up, Sugar Queen,” Toph said, smirking as she took a seat next to you. “If she tries anything it's four against one. Let’s hear her out first.”
Begrudgingly, Katara sat down, making sure she was right in front of you just in case. Her eyes narrowed before she tilted her head, silently telling you to start talking. “I was born in 83 AG to Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Ursa. My mom used to tell me it was a blessed day because she was gifted with not one but two angels. Me and Zuko.”
Sokka let out a choked gasp at your words, looking at you in disbelief. “Y-You mean you and Zuko are t-twins?”
You nodded softly. “I was born twenty minutes before him, making me the crown princess. Two years later, Azula was born and our family was complete. For the first few years of my life, we were a happy family. And then we got our firebending.”
Aang’s eyebrows furrowed at your words. “You got your firebending?”
“Yes,” you replied, nodding again. “I was the first one to show the signs of being able to firebend. My first display of fire terrified everyone. Fire Lord Azulon declared me a prodigy and I immediately began training with both my fire and a sword. When Zuko showed signs of firebending, he joined me but it was clear that he wasn’t a prodigy and so Ozai separated us, claiming that he’d only be a distraction for me. Zuko and I had always been very close but that definitely messed us up.”
“Fire Lord Azulon?” Toph asked, snorting lightly. “Why don’t you just call him ‘grandfather’?”
You shook your head, forgetting that she couldn’t see it. “That man wasn’t my grandfather; at least he never acted like it. The only reason he liked me is because I was talented. He didn’t even like Ozai. He always preferred Uncle Iroh.”
“Iroh?” Aang asked. “What do you mean?”
“I’m not supposed to be crown princess. Iroh was the original crown prince, not Ozai,” you explained. “When I was young, we received a letter from Uncle Iroh. Back then, he was still a general and his goal was to take over the city of Ba Sing Se. He told us about how his son, my cousin, Lu Ten was killed in battle. Overcome with grief, Uncle Iroh ceased his 600 day siege and left. He traveled around, not ready to come back to the Fire Nation or return to battle. It was during this time that Ozai requested an audience with Fire Lord Azulon to make an impossible request.”
Katara looked at you, a little concerned at the expression that had made its way onto your face.
“It started off normally. He had Azula and I show off how far we had gone with our bending. Fire Lord Azulon eventually dismissed us all except for Ozai,” you took a soft breath before continuing. “Azula and I hid behind the curtains, curious about what Ozai wanted to say. He- He asked Fire Lord Azulon for the throne, claiming that since Uncle Iroh had lost his only son, he needed someone with an heir in charge. Azulon was furious and told Ozai that he would never betray his first born who in turn had just lost his first born. He told Ozai that he needed to feel Uncle Iroh’s pain and commanded him to kill his first born.”
Shocked gasps rang from the group. Even Toph couldn’t hold back her surprise.
“He ordered your father to kill you?” Katara asked, sadness creeping into her eyes. You nodded.
“Azula and I ran out of there and she immediately began to terrorize Zuko, knowing that there was no way that Ozai would kill me,” you continued. “I was his pride and joy, a ruthless firebender. Unfortunately, Zuko wasn’t. He was soft and sweet and so, so pure. In Ozai’s eyes, he was weak. It wasn’t until a few years later that I learned that Ozai thought about a ‘loophole’, asking Fire Lord Azulon if it mattered which of his first borns met their end. Azulon waved him off, stating that he didn’t care for either of us. The next night, Fire Lord Azulon died in his sleep and our mother disappeared.”
The silence was almost unbearable and you looked up to meet Aang and Katara’s pity-filled eyes. Toph was abnormally serious and Sokka wasn’t meeting your eyes. You continued to speak, wanting to fill the silence.
“Ozai took the throne, claiming that Fire Lord Azulon’s last wish was for Iroh to be stripped of his title. That’s how I became crown princess.” You paused for a bit, sighing heavily. It felt good to finally tell someone about everything. “To this day, we still don’t know what happened to our mother. Zuko took it the hardest, of course. He spent the most time with her. Azula, well she was a different story. She was convinced that our mother never loved her. I tried my best to be there for both of them but we all changed. Azula and I threw ourselves into our firebending lessons and Zuko took it upon himself to start learning about our military forces. By thirteen, I was already working on bending lightning. I was one of the youngest firebenders to ever do that but losing my mother had made me more reckless and aggressive and firebending was the perfect outlet. I was the perfect weapon and Ozai knew it.”
You paused for a few seconds, wondering if you should continue. Sighing yet again, you continued to speak. “When Zuko and I were thirteen, everything just got worse.  By this point, I rarely saw him. Azula was getting more and more aggressive as time went on and honestly, so was I. I had mastered almost all aspects of firebending, except for lightning, and I had mastered sword fighting. And then Zuko got challenged to an Agni Kai.”
Everyone except for Aang seemed confused, prompting you to explain.
“An Agni Kai is a firebending duel. It stops once someone gets burned,” you said somberly. “It turns out that in one of the war meetings, a general proposed a plan to take over an Earth Kingdom town that would result in the deaths of an untrained Fire Nation battalion. Zuko said that leading them to death was wrong. The very own nation that they loved would be leading them straight to the slaughter. He called the general out on his tactics and accepted the Agni Kai when the general challenged him.”
“Zuko did that?” Sokka asked skeptically. “He tried to save the soldiers?”
“He wasn’t always mean,” you replied, chuckling humorlessly. “During the Agni Kai, I was sitting between Azula and Uncle Iroh. We were all watching anxiously as Zuko approached his opponent. You can only imagine the shock we felt when his opponent was revealed to be Ozai, not the general.”
“No!” Katara gasped, her hands coming up to cover her mouth. You didn’t meet her gaze.
“When he noticed it was...our father, Zuko threw himself to the ground, begging for mercy and forgiveness and stating that he would not fight Ozai.” You shook your head, trying to blink back the tears that had welled up. “Ozai said he had to learn respect. He said that by speaking out of turn, he had insulted him as a parent. When Zuko refused, he said he was dishonorable and that he was going to teach him a lesson. That’s how he got his scar. He was immediately banished, sent on a quest to find the Avatar and capture him. Only then could he regain his honor and reclaim his title as prince.”
“But the Avatar had been missing for nearly one hundred years!” Katara said, looking at you in confusion.
“I know,” you replied. “He wasn’t supposed to find Aang. Ever. Zuko left and Uncle Iroh joined him in his banishment. I didn’t do anything.”
“What do you mean?” Aang asked.
“I mean I didn’t do anything!” you shouted, a tear spilling out of your eye. “I’m his older sister. I’m supposed to protect him! And I didn’t do anything. Spirits, you should’ve seen Azula’s face during the Agni Kai. She had the biggest smile on her face. Uncle Iroh looked away but I… I just couldn’t. I couldn’t move. I froze. And I couldn’t save him.”
“Ozai would’ve burned you too,” Aang said softly, his eyes wide. “You can’t blame yourself for what happened.”
You sniffled, wiping your nose with your sleeve and ignoring Aang’s words. “After his banishment, I lost my bending.”
“How does one just lose their bending?” Toph asked loudly, earning an elbow to the stomach from Katara.
“I don’t know,” you replied quietly, hugging your knees to your chest. “Seeing Zuko getting hurt was rough for me. It didn’t matter that we were separated from a young age. We would always sneak out to the kitchens together to steal snacks and stay up late just playing around. He was my best friend. I just woke up the next morning and my spark was gone. I haven’t been able to bend in three years.”
Aang looked at you sadly. You were his friend and your sadness was so overwhelming that he couldn’t help but feel sad as well.
“Ozai was furious when he found out,” you whispered, rolling up your pant leg to show an ugly scar on your calf. “He did this and then he made me focus on my fighting, giving everyone some bullshit excuse about how I wanted to prove that I was just as capable at fighting without my fire. Azula never found out.”
You raised your head slightly, ignoring everyone’s horror-filled glances as you met Sokka’s bright blue eyes. “Not everything I told you was a lie. When Ozai thought I was old enough, he sent me into battle. He didn’t care if I lived or died. To him it was a win-win situation. Without my bending, he didn’t really see any use for me but if I survived, he still had an heir. I was sent to a small Earth Kingdom battle, led by the same general who had challenged Zuko to an Agni Kai. I took the chance to escape during battle.”
Sokka looked away from you, his jaw clenched and his expression hard.
“I ran when I was fourteen. I searched for my brother, always getting their trail but never being able to catch up to them. Eventually I just stopped.” You stretched your legs, looking back down at the ground. “I settled into a small Fire Nation colony, doing little errands for the old ladies who lived there. When I gained their trust, they vouched for me and I was able to live there peacefully. No one argued with them because they respected them too much. After a few months, you guys came crashing in and the rest is history.
The Gaang exchanged unreadable looks before Katara turned back to face you. “How do we know we can truly trust you?”
You pondered on her question for a few seconds, opening your mouth to speak before you were beaten to the punch by Aang.
“I trust her.”
The group went completely silent at the Air Nomad’s words. Sokka kept his gaze down as Katara gave Aang an incredulous look.
“But she’s Fire Nation!” Katara cried out. “She’s Fire Nation royalty and she’s been hiding that from us. For all we know she’s trying to capture you to help her brother!”
“She already had so many chances to do that, Katara,” Aang said patiently, shooting you a soft smile. “She’s proven time and time again that she’s on our side. She even fought both Zuko and Azula! She’s saved your life multiple times as well! So yes, she has my complete trust.”
Tears welled up in your eyes at Aang’s words and you smiled through the tears when Aang got up and gave you a hug.
“I want her to stay with us,” Aang said. “Besides, you’re right. She’s from the Fire Nation which means that she has insider knowledge.”
You chuckled at his words, nodding along as you glanced at Katara. The Water Tribe girl bit her lip before speaking, knowing that Aang was right. “Alright, Aang. I trust you. But if she does anything that I find weird, I won’t hesitate to bring her down.”
Aang frowned at her words before looking at you. You nodded in agreement, silently assuring the Air Nomad that Katara’s words were reasonable. The tense atmosphere was broken when Toph yawned loudly, stretching before speaking. “Okay now that we all know about Princess over here, can we please get some sleep?”
The rest of the group nodded in agreement and you helped set up the tent and sleeping bags, smiling lightly when you noticed Toph and Katara settle in next to each other. You noticed that Sokka was still sitting a little bit aways and you walked over to him slowly, trying to ignore the curious glances from Aang and Katara.
“Hey,” you said softly, standing next to him. Sokka didn’t reply. “We have the tent all s-”
“Were you ever gonna tell me?” Sokka asked roughly, standing up quickly. His sudden movement took you by surprise, causing you to stumble back a bit.
“S-Sokka, I-”
“Or was I just supposed to be happy with the lies you were telling me?” he snapped, cutting your words off. “Because it seems to me like you weren’t planning on telling us the truth anytime soon.”
You stood silently as Sokka spoke, your mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. Aang looked away from the two of you as Katara swallowed nervously. Sokka was being a little too rough with you.
“We were perfectly fine before you came alone, Your Highness,” Sokka sneered, giving you a steely gaze. “We didn’t need you.”
You reached out, softly placing your hand on Sokka’s arm. “I’m sorry, Sokka. I really am, but you have to understand that-”
“Understand what?” Sokka yelled, pushing your hand off of his arm. He underestimated his strength, pushing you harder than he meant to and knocking you down. You could hear a soft gasp from Aang. “Just leave us alone.”
“Sokka, stop!” Katara cried out, rushing over to help you up. Sokka’s gaze softened for a fraction of a second as he noticed your distraught face.
“No, it’s okay,” you whispered, gently brushing off Katara’s help and standing on your own. The silence was almost overwhelming as everyone watched you walk over to the large pile of rocks. You climbed to the top, sitting before turning to address Aang. “You all go to sleep. I’ll take the first watch.”
Aang opened his mouth to argue and state that you all needed the rest before noticing the way Katara shook her head. There was a new kind of tension in the air, namely between you and Sokka. Katara was the first to fall asleep, closely followed by Toph and Sokka. Aang laid on the hard ground as quietly as he could, trying to ignore the sniffles that were coming from your direction because he knew you just wanted to be left alone.
And just like that, the blooming romance between you and Sokka had been crushed before it ever began.
Note
heyyy im here to formally request you write some cottagecore tyzula fluff 🥺
hellooo anon! I am currently going through my maizulee brainrot stage and since that includes tyzula I am vv excited for this!!! (Side note sorry this is so late💀)
so I don’t know if you wanted like. Headcanons or an actual oneshot so I started a one shot and I’m going to post it on ao3 soon so I’ll reblog this with the link when im done but for now: headcanons:)
- in terms of canon I’d say they move out of the palace when they’re about twenty to twenty two. Ty Lee had a run over half a decade with the kyoshi warriors and she decides to retire. Azula is an advisor for zuko but she’s getting tired of politics after being involved in them functionally her whole life.
- they both come to each other rly nervous bc like ‘what if they don’t want to leave???’ and stuff but they both end up having the same idea and are like okay so where do we move then🧍‍♀
- Ty Lee suggests Kyoshi Island and Azula suggests Ember Island. Azula wants to be close so if the fire nation has political problems shes close enough to help, and ty Lee wants to be able to help future warriors learn to fight
- finally they decide on this little village right around the borders of the fire nation and earth kingdom and they’re like oh this is convenient
- Azula puts up a bit of a fight because ‘it’s farther from caldera than it is from Kyoshi’ but she’s not rly annoyed just being obnoxious
- they move in and they’re on a small hill not too far away from everyone else, but far enough they dont walk right into the village.
- there’s a river around the hill and a forest too, and it all looks very poetic. Ty Lee gushes about it all the time and is constantly inviting Mai over to write about it (keeping up the poet Mai agenda!)
- despite Mai recieving the most invitations, Katara and toph actually visit a lot bc Toph is always in the earth kingdom and whenever Katara comes down to visit they all meet up. They go on double picnic dates (okay minor katyzutoph insert im sorry 💀)
- they keep sheep at Ty Lee’s insistence bc she thinks they’re cute and likes to dye the wool for their clothes herself. - Azula likes gathering food a lot, while Ty Lee likes taking care of the animals. They’re vegetarian because Ty Lee didn’t want to kill the chickens. She got attached
- Azula cuts her hair short and wears bandanas, Ty Lee keeps hers long and usually does milkmaid braids.
- they have an awesome garden, Azula takes amazing care of it. they got carrots, lettuce, strawberries, avatar verse fruits and veggies, herbs, etc. not to mention the flower gardens courtesy of Mai
- Suki and Sokka come over and help them pain one of the walls with a mural. They paint everyone together, like the gaang and azulas angels and okay maybe it’s not amazing bc it’s sokka drawing it but ty lee loves it
- they make homemade tea :’) they buy honey from people in town and watch the sunset drinking mint tea and holding each other in front of a sunset that is suspiciously similar to the lesbian flag.
- Zuko visits and brings the most random housewarming gifts every time he’ll walk in and be like oh here’s your frog sculpture you’re supposed to keep it in your kitchen for good luck:) and they’ll be like zuko that’s not a frog and that doesn’t even fit through the front door
- (he buys the gifts at random pawn shops and hopes for the best tbh)
- the kids think they’re witches because of the herbs they grow they spread rumors and do the classic kids movie thing like ‘you gotta knock on the door to prove you aren’t a wimp’ and usually Azula scares them away BUT
(continued I’m sorry 💀)
