Tony Owes Pepper (a soulmate au)
(crossposted from my archive of our own)
Working in Stark Industries was about as thrilling as you’d expect; that is to say, not at all. For everyone not directly connected to Tony Stark, Pepper, or Happy, working at Stark Industries was like any other business. Boring paperwork, boring offices, boring people.
You’d worked your way up from an entry position to one of the higher positions after a few years of boring work. Most of your colleagues at this level were men: most women who applied to Stark Industries only hoped to catch a glimpse of Tony Stark and their work output reflected that. The few other women in your office were more like you: working to work, not to see your hot boss. Well, one woman worked there mostly in a hope to spend time with Pepper, who was the most present executive in your office. In fact, you’d had lunch with Pepper on multiple occasions.  In the years you’d been working, you couldn’t remember Tony ever showing up.
“Y/N! Can I borrow you a minute?” Speak of the devil, and she shall appear. You immediately drop what you’re working on and head towards Pepper. She gives you a friendly smile and leads you to the elevator.
“Good morning, Ms. Potts.” You greet her. She rolls her eyes in a playful manner.
“How many times do I have to tell you to call me Pepper?” You shrug and she shakes her head. “Anyway, I have a job for you.”
“Okay? Why does that sound so ominous?” You ask, narrowing your eyes at her. The elevator finally dings and the two of you step inside, Pepper pushing the button to take you two to one of the highest levels of Avengers Tower.
“Tony has at least three meetings this morning and I have to be in DC by noon. I don’t have time to harass him into getting ready, which is where I’m hoping you’ll step in.” Pepper explains.
“You want me...to harass my boss?” You say slowly. She laughs.
“Precisely.” She looks towards you, serious now. “You’ve worked here long enough to prove that you’re capable and, personally, I like you. There’s no one else I can really turn to now, especially with Happy out of town.”
“He won’t listen to me.” You point out. “I know I don’t know him well, but he really won’t listen to me. He hardly listens to you.”
“I know, I really do. But I’m out of options. Please, Y/N?” Pepper pleads. The elevator dings and the doors slide open to reveal a floor far fancier than your office level. You sigh.
“Fine, Pepper, but you owe me.” She immediately shoves a folder into your hand and smiles. “Perfect. Thank you so much!” She disappears as the elevator door closes and you’re left alone in the entryway. You peak into the folder and see a schedule that looked way too full. You sigh.
“She didn’t even tell me which way to go.” You grumble to yourself.
“Tony is down the left hallway in one of the conference rooms. I’ll guide you, if you like.” A voice echoed from nowhere but you know enough to recognize Tony’s AI assistant, Friday. You thank her and make your way towards the conference room.
“Tony, an employee is here to speak with you.” You hear Friday announce in the room ahead. Tony mumbled something unintelligible from your distance and you groan to yourself.
Today was going to be a long day.
You knock on the door frame to announce your presence. Tony gives you a fake smile, enough to make your blood boil a bit. You didn’t ask for this.
“Did you forget how to tie your tie?” You ask him, gesturing to where his half done tie. Tony blinked, glanced down as if surprised that it wasn’t done, then looks back to you, still speechless. You sigh and walk over, knocking his hands away and doing his tie up for him. “Pepper said I’d have to make sure you got to the meetings, not that I’d have to help you get dressed.”
“You could always help me undress, if the tie is too complicated.” Tony replies, a confident grin across his face. Your hands still on the tied tie and the words along the back of your neck warm from more than just your annoyance earlier. Tony raises a wrist, pulling down the suit and shirt sleeves to reveal your words on his skin.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” You groan.
“You’re the reason I wait so late to tie my ties.” Tony admits, reaching out greedily to grab at your hips, eager to have you here in front of him.
“You’re the reason I keep my hair long, can you imagine what people have thought because of what you’ve said to me?” You say back to him, smacking away his hands. “People thought I’d be a stripper or something. I mean, there's nothing wrong with sex work but its not something you tell a six year old.”
“In retrospect, not the best way to greet my soul mate.” Tony acknowledges. He manages to look sheepish while still grinning like the cat who caught the mouse.
“I did learn a lot of ways to tie a tie, just in case.” You mumble an admittance, earning a grin from Tony.
“So, lunch?” He asks. You point dutifully towards the folder.
“You have three meetings and a phone conference.” You recite. Tony pouts.
***
“I cannot believe you two.” Pepper says. She’d walk into Tony’s living room the next day to find the two of you arguing over some small and funny thing, Tony’s arm around your shoulders. You at least, managed to look mildly ashamed. Tony just beamed at her.
“You sent my soul mate straight to me, Peps. I owe you a vacation.” He says happily.
“You owe me more than that.” Pepper says, pinching the bridge of her nose.
“He did make it to most of his meetings yesterday.” You pipe up. It was hard to fight Tony when he got into a stubborn mood, even with your soul mate status. He just turned it back on you, convincing you that as newly affirmed soul mates, you both should be spending time getting to know each other.
“Better than nothing.” Tony adds. If glares could kill, you were sure Tony would’ve died a thousand times over by now.“Why isn’t Y/N in her office?” Pepper asks, giving up on reprimanding Tony.
“This is her new office.” Tony grins, gesturing towards himself. You and Pepper both give him a deadpan stare.
“I quit.” You say, starting to stand.
“Aw, no, come back!” Tony grabs you around the waist, pulling you down onto his lap and pressing a kiss to the back of your neck, where his words lay.
“You know you could never leave me.”
“Cocky, aren’t you?” You roll your eyes. His arms tighten around you, hugging you to him.
“Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be.”

Mornings with Tony
Tony Stark x GN reader
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful Tuesday morning in New York. The sun was shining over The avengers tower. Tony was awoken by y/n, who snuggled closer to Tony in their sleep. He smiled and looked at the clock. It was 11:00. They had to be ready to go to a avengers meeting in an hour.
“Y/n,” Tony shook their shoulder lightly. “We need to get up darling. It’s 11:00.”
Y/n groaned and rolled over, pulling the fleece blanket over their head.
“5 more minutes..”
Tony chuckled and got up, only to go to the other side of the bed and rip the blanket from them.
“UGH!” Y/n groaned as the sun shone in their eyes. “Come on T!”
Tony smiled and asked J.A.R.V.I.S to open the rest blinds. The A.I complied and light flooded the room.
Y/n looked at Tony grumpily. Tony rolled his eyes playfully and pulled his partner out of bed.
“Come one y/n,” he gave them a kiss and he could feel them smile. “Time to get ready darling.”
Y/n begrudgingly got out of bed. Their hair was a mess and eye bags settled under their eyes. They got into the shower and started their shower routine. Tony got in 2 minutes later.
Y/n was putting their (suit/dress) on and brushing their hair out when Tony came back to the bathroom in sweatpants and a white tank top.
“The meeting was canceled,” Tony started, he yawned and stretched. “Capsical said it would be beneficial for us to get some rest because of the last few weeks..”
“You mean to tell me,” y/n started, looked at Tony. “I got up for nothing??”
Tony chuckled and shrugged. Y/n sighed and took off their (suit/dress), leaving it on the floor to be picked up later, and putting on (shorts/sweatpants) with a tank top. They walked out and climbed back into bed.
“Come on T, let’s go back to bed. I’m tired and I know you are too.”
Tony couldn’t argue with that, so he climbed back into bed and brought Y/n closer to him. With that, they both started to fall back asleep.

Cold Blood pt.3
WARNINGS: None really, I don’t even think there’s swearing ^^”
NOTE: I do not own any rights to Marvel or The Originals, I have taken content directly from the shows in order to give you a better image of what’s happening!
A/N: Sorry i haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been going through a lot lately and haven’t had the chance to sit down and keep going.... also I haven’t figured out how to link my chapters yet so I’m sorry for new ppl
Word count: 1,500 (smaller than normal but the next part will be longer so it will make up for it)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weak from the hours of spells and torture Rebekah stumbled trying to get away from Klaus, running through doors, falling against walls and eventually ending up in the basement where she met a dead end
“Tired of running?” he called behind her
“I know how much you love the chase and I’d like to deprive you of it” huffing against a wall, watching him round the corner. Klaus was suddenly on his knees and tossing someone away from him, it was Marcel
“Ah! The lovers reunited, this is actually perfect, I can deal with you both at the same time” pulling the dagger from his belt he waved it in the air.
“Klaus, it was my idea to call Mikael, he had nothing to do with it” she wheezed moving to stand in front of Marcel, unconscious on the floor.
Before anything else, the blade in Klaus’ hand was driven into his chest. Outside Briar gasped in pain, everything halted to a stop and she fell towards the ground; as the energy field dropped Steve ran for her, grabbing on at the last minute before hitting the ground himself. Briar groaned turning in the arms of the super soldier, she placed her hands on his chest and pushed herself up “Nice save capsicle”
He turned and sat up after her “don’t call me that”
“Somethings wrong” Briar brushed his comment off looking over at the sanatorium, she stood and watched as her aunt and Marcel sped out of the door and off into the night. “Oh no” she breathed turning back to see Elijah carrying Klaus with Tony and Natasha right behind them,
“Uncle-”
Tumblr media
“He did it to himself Briar, I’m taking him back to the compound” Elijah interrupted as he walked past, he placed Klaus in the car and turned back to his niece “What about aunt Rebekah?”
“In hiding; a necessary sacrifice. Go Briar, you don’t need to be here for what comes next, you did your job beautifully. This is between siblings” Elijah placed a kiss on her forehead before getting into the car and driving off.
Briar turned to face the avengers “Ok, when do we leave?” Tony then turning to face Steve “You gonna fight me on this?” Cap clenched his jaw and looked away
“Seems you’ve already made up your mind” Steve turned to Natasha, “and I for one would like to get out of this city before any other vampires come sniffing around” the redhead flipped her hair and grinned at Briar.
Once on the quinjet Briar leaning against the wall next to Tony who was flying, she watched steve and he adjusted his uniform,
“He doesn’t like me” she whispered, Tony shook his head
“His loss then” winking at Briar she rolled her eyes, “He’s not so great, there’s times where I want to punch him in his perfect teeth”
“Down boy” Briar glanced Tony's way “what’s got your panties in a twist about him?”
“Grew up listening to how my dad ‘knew captain America’ as if it was some great feat, as if that made him some superior being. What I hate most of all is how freaking polite he is”
“Polite?” Briar scoffed I must have missed that
“Guy dies and wakes up 70 years later, finds out there’s aliens, androids, wizards and now vampires, witches and werewolves. Let alone someone who is all three; he’s bound to be suspicious. Stand off-ish, hell, maybe even a bit of an ass”
“Are you defending him? The guy you just said you want to punch in the teeth? I mean he’s got a hell of an ass but-”
“How close are we?” Steve asked cutting Briar off coming to stand behind Tony’s chair
“Friday?”
Nearly 20 minutes out, sir
Steve nodded and walked away eyeing Briar as he went, she winked, giving a devilish smirk.
“You were saying?” Tony asked, turning as Steve left. Briar shot him a ‘nevermind’ look shaking her head, she looked out the window as they flew closer to the compound.
Once on the landing strip, the back opened and everyone gathered their belongings.
“Labs all set up boss” a demanding voice called from outside the ship,
“Oh, no. He’s the boss” Tony turned to face the brunette, who was now on the ship, pointing to Steve who turned his head not making eye contact with anyone,
“I just pay for everything, design everything, make everyone look cooler”
Briar shrugged and turned to face the brunette, “what’s a girl gotta do to get a drink around here”
“Hill, status report” Steve called coming to stand in front of them “Sir-“ before she could continue; Steve pulled her from the ship and spoke in hushed tones. Briar huffed, feeling an arm snake through hers, “c’mere darling, I got you” Tony whispered in her ear pulling her off the ship.
Steve watched as they walked by, “I have everything you could dream of and if I don’t I’ll have it flown in, promise.” Tony announced loudly for everyone around to hear, Nat watched Steve watching you, “She doesn’t seem so bad”
“What’s her deal?” Hill asked
“Nothing, she’s not a part of the team” Steve stated grabbing the tablet from Hill’s hands to sift through the photos.
“Top shelf for little old me? Tony you spoil me” Briar winked taking the drink he handed her,
Tumblr media
“You’re going to be meeting the rest of the team soon, a god, an Android, a witch, a rage monster, you know a little of this a little of that. Try to be nice, some of them have-“
“Anger issues?” Briar twisted the glass in her hands “They sound fun, who’s first?”
“Tony…” a timid man called from the doorway,
“Banner, - Tony smiled at Briar - Banner is first, what’s the word?”
“Uh- I need you -um in the lab” without making too much eye contact he walks off
“He gets nervous around beautiful women, it’s no big” Tony waved his hand dismissively and followed Banner, Briar close behind.
“The scepter, we were wondering how Strucker was getting so inventive, so I’ve been analyzing the cube and take a look at this.” Banner brought up a holographic image of the cube onto the floor.
“It’s beautiful” Briar commented leaning against the doorway
“It is; it’s like it’s thinking- i mean this could be- it’s - it’s not a human mind, i mean look at this. They’re like neurons firing.” he paced around the image
“Down in Strucker’s lab I saw some pretty advanced robotics, they deep six the data but… I gotta guess he was knocking on a very particular door.” shrugging Tony watched Banner come to a halt.
“Artificial intelligence.”
“This could be it, Bruce. This could be the key to creating Ultron.”
“Ultron?” Briar asked sipping her drink,
“Peace in our time Briar. Imagine that?” Tony beamed
“That’s a mad sized ‘if’ Tony” Bruce rubbed his neck
“Our job is if what if you were sipping margaritas on a sun dried beach turning brown instead of green? Not looking over your shoulder for veronica”
“Don’t hate I helped design veronica” Bruce started pacing again
“As a worst case measure right? What about best case? What if the world was safe? what if next time the aliens roll up to the club they can’t get through the bouncer”
“The only ones threatening the world would be people” Briar stated leaving the doorway to stand beside Tony, offering her drink.
“I wanna apply this to the ultron program but friday can’t download a data schematic this dense, we can only do it while we have the scepter here that’s three days, give me three days” he took a sip of the drink
“So you’re going for artificial intelligence and you don’t wanna tell the team?” staring at Tony nervously,
“Right and you know why because we don’t have time for a city hall debate. I don't wanna hear: the man was not meant to meddle, medley. I see a suit of armor around the world”
“Sounds like a cold world Tony” Bruce looked back at the image in front of him.
“I’ve seen colder” Briar locked eyes with Bruce
“this one, this very vulnerable blue one, needs ultron. Peace in our time Banner, that’s all I’m saying” placing a hand on the small of Briars back he led her out of the lab and into the hall.

Hope is falling
It was form some prompts i set myself and randomly choose from.
Prompt category: Angst prompt: "You're taking their side?" characters: Bucky/Tony/Reader Title: Hope is falling
________________________________________________________________
Y/N is pacing the floor, waiting for her boys to finally return. The hours of the day seem to stretch, getting longer with each passing second. The news channel doesn’t help out in the slightest. The constant showing of destruction in the city, injured people and her boys and friends still fighting. Jarvis had helped her out a while ago and turned the TV off. The fight had been going on for hours, the creatures not really good to describe. She’s still pacing, when she hears the elevator doors to ping and slide open. Shuffling sounds through the hall and then she sees Nat and Clint shuffling in, followed by a totally dirty Steve who helps a limping Sam to a couch. Her gaze leaves her friends with a pained expression, swiping back to the elevator. Its doors are closed again, numbers falling, and she just starts to worry. Her boys aren’t here yet? Where are they?
“They’re fine. Mostly.” She drags her gaze away from the closed metal doors to shift it to Nat. the redhead stands right beside her, neutral gaze on her face but Y/N can see in her eyes that she’s concerned. “Why aren’t they up here?” Nat is silent and even when Y/N looks at each of her friends she’s met with silence, guilty looks, and avoidance, so she looks back at the woman. Her gaze turns steely, almost like Nat look sometimes. She wants-no- needs to know what’s wrong with them. Nat sighs, obviously having caught her look and knowing exactly what it means. “They’re in med bay with Bruce. Before you panic, they’re not hurt.” Nat holds up a hand as Y/N was just about to panic. “at least not from the fight. Though you know Tony.” She sounds a little defeated and one look to Steve confirms her suspicion that Tony either did something dumb or wasn’t as fine as he told them all this morning. He was coughing a little in the morning and Jarvis confirmed later that he has a bit of trouble breathing recently. The teams had suggested for weeks now that he’s finally getting rid of his arc reactor. They all caught on of his state, the small, pained inhales, fast exhaustion and hurting chest rubs. Y/N and Bucky had stood on Tony’s side, only for his comfort. Silently she agrees with the others. Even Pepper had asked her to talk to Tony about it. Though she knows that Tony has all his hopes up on her and Bucky for saving him for surgery. He’s right out frightened about it and up until know she was the one to stare daggers at the others as soon as the words Arc reactor and doctor passed in a sentence together. “What is it then?”

Honest Mistake
Tony: I wasn't that drunk! Stop exaggerating!
Y/N: You opened a pack of tampons and said they looked like mini ghosts, and then tried to 'haunt' me for like 2 hours.
Tony:...
Clint: They do kinda look like ghosts though.

rising fears : t.s
brief summary: being unofficial with tony but you get badly injured on a mission and he’s furious when you get back
requested: nope, but they are open  word count: 1.2k warnings? none
Tumblr media
Walking out of the room you could hear him sigh loudly before calling your name, but you don’t respond. Instead, you keep walking, refusing to turn back.
Tony wasn’t always the most willing to convince, hell, the idea of you going on a solo mission was almost a no go zone to him. You decided to sit him down alone in hope of convincing him you’ll be fine. But you knew better than to expect him to be that reasonable.
He stood up quickly in protest as he listed a series of outcomes that might happen to you- most involving death.
For a while, you and Tony had unspoken feelings, ones you hadn’t quite figured out how to approach or even address in a conversation. But times like these you knew he wasn’t saying these things as a friend looking out for another. No, Tony was saying these things as he was afraid to lose you. And that idea, the concept of someone being afraid of you vanishing was terrifying.
Never before had someone subconsciously cared like Tony does. He would always check on you after missions together, after Ultron he barely left your side as you recovered. Tony would train with you and help you learn new skills whenever possible. He loved to see you grow and advance in his technology and smile when you would laugh. Your laugh is euphoric to him.
However, his care for you can be irritating, especially when it concerns your stubbornness. He was strongly advising against you going on the mission, only making you want it more.
“Y/n! Come back here.” He yells from his door as you continue to walk down the corridor, passing Steve who raises an eyebrow in confusion as Tony slams his door shut.
Slowing down to walk alongside you Steve glances back to Tony’s room. “What’s his problem?” Steve questions and you simply shrug your shoulders.
“Must’ve said something he wasn’t so keen on.” You suggest, not wanting to admit the truth. You hurt his feelings, you know how much he cares and you’re throwing it back in his face just to prove a point.
At some point Steve must’ve wandered off elsewhere in the compound, leaving you alone wrapped up in your thoughts about this mission. You began to question if it’d be worth it, that the pain in Tony’s expression before is too real to not give in to.
“No.” You mutter under your breath as you walk straight towards your suite, preparing the last of your things before heading to a briefing with Fury.
*
Walking around the grounds you keep your gun close to your chest, refusing to let it slip elsewhere. You turn your head, looking down one of the many alleyways you’ve come across, but once again it’s empty.
You let out a small sigh, seeing your breath float in the freezing conditions, but that is the least of your issues.
Fury chose you to find three hostages. Three very important figures who once worked for SHIELD. You knew of them as the traitors who stole a lot of information, including confidential details about you.
When the idea was pitched to you of bringing them in to interrogate you agreed instantly, not thinking ahead about what this actually meant.
These three men knew you inside and out, almost better than you knew yourself. They had the perfect means to defeat you, weaken you at the least. But that wasn’t stopping you, all you wanted was for these men to be back at the base and not here where their knowledge can be used against all of you.
“See anything Agent?” Fury calls in and you turn your head as a sound causes you to stand up straight.
“Not yet.” You mumble as you pick up the pace, heading further down towards a long corridor. “Wait,” Heading towards the sound of screams you position yourself by the door. “am I good to go in?”
“Now agent!” Fury yells and you kick the door down, pointing your gun at the man guarding the three figures, shooting him without thinking.
Everything happens so fast, in an instant.
You throw a knife behind you, hearing a series of men coming towards the room at the sound of the fire. Suddenly you’re outnumbered before a series of men who’ve studied you carefully.
“Come on boys,” You twirl a knife in your fingers as a smirk plays on your lips. “how’s this fair on you?”
Before they have a chance to respond you work your way through them faster than they realise. With a small knife sliding from your boot you stab one in the neck whilst another holds you down, releasing you as you break his wrist.
Sighing loudly you brush your hair out of your face, smiling at the three hostages who stare at you with wide eyes. Around you lies all the men they believed would defeat you. “Never underestimate the power of the Swan, gentlemen.” You salute them before calling in Fury.
“Fury? Yeah, we’ve got the-”
The last thing you saw was flames as you were thrown off of your feet, flying in the air surrounded by debris. The sound of ringing was deafening as your eyes were too heavy to keep open despite the protests from the voice in your ears. “Don’t you dare Agent, don’t you dare!”
But you couldn’t help it, you let your eyes close, giving in after all.
*
“She's where?” You heard him yell and the sound of hurried footsteps nears your room.
“What are you playing at?” He asks you stubbornly whilst you struggle to keep your eyes open. “If anything happened to you,” He trails off, unable to finish the sentence.
You open your mouth to speak, but no words come as your throat remains dry.
It’d been a couple of days since you returned from your mission early. No one knew about your early return due to the severe condition you were in. The less attention that surrounded you the better, especially after that kind of incident.
It was something you should’ve noticed sooner, even in your sleep you criticised yourself for not seeing the bomb strapped to one of the guards as his lifeless body was on the ground. How you weren’t dead was unknown, but you only just escaped that fate, just.
Glancing down you see Tony’s shaking hand rest on top of yours lightly. You can barely feel anything as you remain hooked on all kinds of painkillers, but you can feel the softness of his skin against the bruised and torn flesh on yours.
“I, I,” You begin to force the words out but Tony shushes you, reaching up and brushing your hair back. “I’m okay.” The words leave your lips just about coherent enough for Tony to understand.
A smile rises on his face in relief as he shuffles forward in the small chair. “You better be and all. I can’t go losing you, Y/n.”
‘You won’t ever lose me’ you think to yourself, wishing he could hear you say it aloud. But that is the sort of thing he’ll just have to wait for, just a bit longer and then he’ll finally hear the response he’s been longing for; that you love him too.

Stark Tony stark x Daughter! reader
A/N Okay so I haven't written in a few years and I've had this idea for a while now and it made me cry thinking about it in the shower... so I'm writing it for you best as I can bear with me, please?
age 5 (around Iron man 2)
“Dad sing me a song,” y/n pleaded as her dad was about to turn off the lamp on their bedside. “Eh, that doesn't sound like a me thing to do” Tony teased and quickly turned off the lamp leaving the circle on his chest to illuminate the room. “Nooo pleeease” y/n begged. Making a long annoyed sigh Tony turned the lamp back on and threw himself on the bed. “Do I have to?” Y/N glared and their father chuckled. “okay fine fine fine cry baby” Tony sat up and cleared his thought. “are you ready for this? I don't think your ready to hear the voice of an angel. You know what?” he stood up “my beautiful voice is too much for you better hold it off night night don't let the spider I put under your pillow bit that's a hospital bill I don't wanna pay.” you chuckled and sat up. With another sigh Toney looked at her “fine if you insist AND if you will rest” he cleared his thought once more. “Back in black! I hit the sack! I’ve bee-”
“NOOO, an actual song for bedtime!” his child wined. Toney rolled his eyes “oh my god I'm gifting you my presence that should be enough”
“DAD”
With a smile, Tony finally settled down “I see trees of green, red roses too. I see them bloom for me and you. And I think to my self what a wonderful world” y/n laid back and slowly as their father continued to sing softly allowed darkness to take them.
“...I hear babies crying I watch them grow. They’ll learn much more, then I’ll ever know. And I think to my self...” Tony stood up from the bed and kissed y/n’s forehead “what a wonderful world”.
......11 years later (end game)...
Thanos threw Tony from his arm. Thanos fixed the gauntlet to comfort and turned to face Iron Man. “I am inevitable” y/n began running towards Thanos as he was about to snap they covered their head and then, nothing. Looking around for Peter or Bucky anyone else who died alongside her.. they were still there watching in relief when his snap had no effect. y/n looked at the gauntlet to catch no stones on the red and black fist. y/n stared at their father's hand in the air on his knees as the stones made their wat to his system. Toney kept his eyes on his child and he smiled softly as the stones painfully began to engulf him deteriorating his muscle, breaking down his suit.
he looked back at Thanos breathing heavily “and i..am” y/n began to run to their dad “..Iron man”. With that, all y/n could hear was the snap of their father's fingers. All the creatures attacking them began to fade away. Anything that tried to kill them turned to dust. The gray in the sky was beginning to fade and no later so was the mad titan. Tony leaned against a piece of metal and sighed, it was over.  Running to their dad Tony stared at his child as they sat next to him and he leaned his head on their shoulder. “Hay we won, Mr.Stark’’ Peter said cupping his cheek. y/n processing what just happened ran their fingers through their father's hair. Peter choked on his tears “I'm sorry Tony”  he cried as he was gently moved away. Pepper put her hand on the Arc reactor looking into her husband's eyes “Hey, we're gonna be okay, you can rest now”. Tony slowly gripped as tight as he could to his (Daughter’s, Son’s ect.) hand. Allowing a tear to go down your face, you began “I see trees of green.. red roses too..” holding back a sob muffling any noises they made to attempt to comfort their father.
looking up at the sky “ I see them bloom” they sniffed as tears rolled down their face trying their hardest to not sob “For me..and you “ y/n practically whispered. Tonys chest began to dim “and then I think to myself” the reactor began to blink on and off. “...What a wonderful world..” the light was gone and his grip went limp. y/n could no longer contain the sob they so strongly held for their father. Bringing their father's hand to their lips they left a small kiss as Rhodey helped them up. “I'm so sorry kid”.

‘You know I want you. It's not a secret I try to hide. I know you want me. So don't keep saying our hands are tied.’
You were definitely one woman who was hard to ask out. At least, to Tony. He was the type of man who was so used to things and people, being thrown at him. Women would constantly try to hook up with him, other people would just try to use him. He had grown so accustomed to this lifestyle. So when he met people who didn’t just force themselves into his life, he was definitely intriguing. And you were definitely intriguing.
Tony thought you were different the day you walked into the Avengers compound. His heart fluttered when your beautiful eyes met his. He tried so hard to catch your attention, but you were not picking up what he was putting down. Though every time he would tease you, he would relish in the way your cheeks would turn the rosiest of pinks. It was mesmerizing, addicting, and he wanted to look at you all the time. He just didn’t know why you were holding yourself back from him. Anytime he would mention grabbing a coffee or an after-work dinner, you would always shy away. He wanted to know why.
‘You claim it's not in the cards. Fate is pulling you miles away, and out of reach from me. But you're here in my heart. So who can stop me if I decide that you're my destiny?’
The dark-haired man would never forget the heartbreaking response you gave him when he finally asked you why. It had been after a mission, and Tony had just barely caught you before you left for the day. In truth, you had been trying to avoid him. As much as you wanted to be with Tony, you never could. He was handsome, rich, powerful, and Iron Man. You were just another one of the SHIELD agents who helped out. Also, you didn’t find yourself to be the best looking woman. Your body type was curvy, which was so unlike all of the women Tony had dated before.
“Hey Y/N. What are you doing this weekend?” Tony asked catching the elevator doors.
“Oh, the usual. Netflix and pizza. I may spice it up though, I am not too sure.” You said, not being able to fight the smile that appeared on your lips.
“Why don’t we grab a bite to eat at this new place?” Tony asked, making your heartbreak. You really didn’t want to tell him now, but by the look in your eyes, you didn’t have to. “Come on, Y/N. Why not? I didn’t do anything, did I?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Of course not. Tony, look at me. Look at you. It would never work out. People like you don’t date people like me.” You said a bit harshly, causing Tony to take a step back.
Before he had time to process what you had said, you had pressed the elevator button and the doors shut. He stood there for a couple of minutes, realizing you were gone. He wanted to follow you, to chase after you, to ask what you meant. All he could see was your beauty, and to hell with what anyone else thought.
‘What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine. Nothing could keep us apart. You'd be the one I was meant to find. It's up to you, and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. So why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours, tonight.’
Tony paced around his room, dialing your number quickly on his phone. “Dammit.” He mumbled as it went to voicemail.
“Hey, Y/N. Listen. I have been doing a lot of thinking about what you said, and I want you to know that I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks. You are an amazing woman. I am so thankful we became friends, but I can’t keep this hidden. Y/N, I love you. I want to be with you. Please give me a chance. I promise I will never make you doubt us. I will treat you right, and I will always let my love for you be known.” Tony said over the phone, before hanging up.
His dark eyes stared at the phone, debating on whether or not to send you a text. He had never felt this way for someone else. Tony had never wanted to fight so hard to keep someone in his life. For you, though, he would fight until his very last breath. He wanted you to know he couldn’t care less what society would think. You were the one for him. Between your soft laugh, the way you said his name, the way the two of you would laugh and share inside jokes, to the way he could always tell when something was bothering you. That was it. He knew what he had to do. Tony grabbed a jacket and took off. He had to tell you all of this in person. He wanted to hold you, to assure you that the two of you would work.
‘You think it's easy. You think I don't want to run to you. But there are mountains. And there are doors that we can't walk through.’
If only Tony knew how you truly felt. There had been so many times when you wanted to tell him, but you grew too scared. It wasn’t as if you didn’t have the opportunity. He asked you out often, though, in your mind, you thought he was just joking or playing a prank on you. In school, the popular guys would always tease you by pretending to think you were cute and asking you out. You learned to build a wall around yourself and had a distrust to all potential lovers.
Tony was different though. His smile was warm, and he was definitely a good person to talk to. You had a shared love of coffee, and work that kept you both up all night. You knew Tony would never understand how you felt. There was just no way. Deep down you feared that Tony was just being friendly, that he didn’t really mean all of the nice things he would tell you.
‘I know you're wondering why. Because we're able to be just you and me within these walls. But when we go outside. You're going to wake up and see that it was hopeless after all.’
The day he asked you why broke your heart. It took all of your strength to not break down and cry. You were surprised you managed how you did. Besides, how did Tony not see what you were saying? It was exactly like you were small and unnoticeable. You felt as if you took up too much room, and was sure that your size was enough to draw everyone’s attention.
Before, the two of you would share many things inside of the compound. Between movie nights, parties, and even helping him complete his projects. You were the calm to his storm, the cream in his coffee, and you added so much color to his world. The two of you connected, and you wanted so bad to claim him. To tell the world he was his. However, when it came down to it, you were truly afraid that outside you would be nobody to him. That if you tried approaching him in public he would act as if he didn’t know you. And after all of the beautiful moments, you cherished with Tony Stark, you weren’t sure if you would be able to handle that.
‘No one can rewrite the stars. How can you say you'll be mine? Everything keeps us apart. And I'm not the one you were meant to find. It's not up to you. It's not up to me. When everyone tells us what we can be. How can we rewrite the stars? Say that the world can be ours, tonight.’
You nearly had a heart attack as Tony’s name flashed on your phone. With a quick button push, you had sent it to voice mail. After the breakdown you had earlier, you definitely didn’t want to talk to Tony. However, curiosity got the better of you and before you knew it you were listening to the voicemail. Tears rolled down your cheeks as you tossed your phone to the side.
This would never work out, you knew it. No matter what Tony would say. As soon as the two of you were seen together in public, you would be attacked. People would want to know why Tony Stark, of all people, was dating someone like you. Someone so different, someone who didn’t fit the mold into that lifestyle. You knew how the media felt about plus-sized women. Hell, it was hard enough trying to find a clothing store for you. You couldn’t imagine all of the nasty things people would say about you. You so desperately wanted to be carefree, and to not care what would be said about you. But you knew you couldn’t. You knew the sting of the words would get to you, and even Tony. You could probably handle what others said, but you knew if Tony started to see yourself as others did, you would be devastated.
‘All I want is to fly with you. All I want is to fall with you. So just give me all of you. It feels impossible (it's not impossible). Is it impossible? Say that it's possible.’
Tony just wanted to be with you. He didn’t care what others thought. All he could think about was you as he passed building after building. Trying to make it to your apartment as quickly as he could. There had been no point in driving, as traffic was pretty backed up in the crowded city.
As your apartment complex finally came into view, memories began flooding in. He remembered the first time he came over. You had gotten a little too drunk at one of his parties, something you rarely did, and Tony had offered to take you home. As he was putting you to bed, you began mumbling about how much you loved him and wanted to be with him. You even kissed his cheek. Tony just smiled and tucked you in, staying long enough to ensure you were safe. After leaving some medicine and water on your nightstand, he was gone, and never wanted to bring it up again out of respect. A small smile couldn’t help but creep on his lips as he thought of that, remembering how silly it all seemed.
However, before he could enter your building, you were frantically running out.
“Tony!” You almost screamed, startled by his presence, thankful you two had not collided.
“Y/N, listen to me. I need to tell you something.” Tony began, but you only shook your head.
“No Tony, I should say something to you.”
‘How do we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine? Nothing can keep us apart. 'Cause you are the one I was meant to find. It's up to you. And it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. And why don't we rewrite the stars? Changing the world to be ours.’
“Tony Stark, I love you too. I may not be the perfect girlfriend, but I will love you unconditionally. I may get self-conscious, or think too much of what other people say. I may not be some skinny woman, but I want to be with you. I am sorry I never gave you a chance, but I want to.” You said, looking into his eyes passionately.
Tony couldn’t help himself as he wrapped his arms around you, placing his lips against your own. The two of you stayed like this for what felt like hours, and as he pulled away you couldn’t help but pout, causing him to chuckle.
“Y/N, I promise I will never care what people think. I think you are the most wonderful woman. You are gorgeous, funny, and you are always there for me. Whether it be an ear to listen or talk to fill the silence. You always know what to say and to do. I don’t care about your size, Y/N. I think you are perfect the way you are, and I find you sexy as hell.” Tony said softly, brushing the hair out of your face.
“Thank you for not giving up on me.” You murmured, burying your face into his chest.
“I would never give up on you, you are a bright and shining star,” Tony said affectionately, pulling you as close as possible. “Now come on, let’s go to this diner down the street. I heard their burgers are the best.” He said grinning, holding onto your hand.
“Tony Stark, you sure know the way to my heart.” You teased, the two of you laughing as you walked hand in hand to the small diner. Life may not have been perfect, but it sure felt like it when you were with Tony Stark.
‘You know I want you. It's not a secret I try to hide. But I can't have you. We're bound to break and my hands are tied.’

A Kiss To Change It All (Part 23) - Montgomery de la Cruz

Word count: 1524 words.
Warning: Angst?

I can’t promise I will update soon since finals (yeah those suckers again) are in less than two weeks and I have tons to study BUT I will try to write maybe shorter parts and post them. What do you think? Again, thank you guys for your support and patience. Xx, Sophia.
Tumblr media
Ten days. Ten days since you almost lost your best friend. But those were ten long days you had to face Liberty on your own, avoiding the jocks as much as you could and pretending to be deaf whenever you walked by a crowded corridor and you were inevitably followed by whispers. It was beyond tiring. The rumors. The many stories students shared, getting twisted and more fucked up the more they traveled from group to group.
The final bell of the morning rang and it was followed by a loud sigh escaping your mouth as you rushed to gather your belongings and stormed out of biology straight to the cafeteria where you found Tony waiting for you. "Jess said she has practice, so it's just the two of us today." You nodded, your mind clearly busy about something else. "You okay, (Y/N)?"
"Hm hm"
"(Y/N) are you even listening to me?" You shook your head. "What's going on? Is Jeff alright?"
"It's not Jeff..."
That wasn't helping him at all. Indeed, he got even more worried. "What is it then? You're worrying me, (Y/N)..."
It came like a storm on a sunny day. When you were starting to heal, this came and messed up with your clearer mind putting you in an awful mood throughout the whole morning and once more, making you not able to focus on anything during classes.
You just stepped inside the half-empty halls of Liberty when Jessica came out of nowhere and dragged you behind her without saying a word until you reached an empty classroom where Justin was. "Good morning to you too Jess." You chuckled nervously and when none of them said a word, you started to be worried. "What's going on?"
Jessica simply shot a rather insisting look to her boyfriend who shifted nervously on his feet, unable to meet your gaze. "(Y/N) ... I ..."
"Come on Justin."  The brunette insisted.
He took a deep breath before blurting quickly. "There was no bet."
It took you a full minute to understand what he was talking about and your eyes immediately drifted to Jessica. She told him even when you made her promise not to say a word. "You promised you wouldn't say ..." You paused. Wait a second. "What did you say, Justin?"
"Monty, for some reason, lied to you. There was no bet."
You frowned. "How do you know that?"
"Heard him talking to Scott the other day but I didn't know what it was about until Jess told me about that." He motioned his hands. "Made the connection and thought you should know about this rather than think he used you."
You sighed and leaned back on your chair. "Now I am lost, Tony. What am I supposed to do with this?"
The sound of the shower was still on when you carefully tiptoed inside the boys' locker room. It smelled like sweat and men's shower gel. Typical. You heard the water stop and the familiar whistling getting closer to where you were silently standing drawing an instant smile on your lips but you quickly shook your head and spun on your heels ready to go. You shouldn't have listened to Tony in the first place. What were you thinking about when he told you to go and have a serious talk with Montgomery. It was a bad idea.  And maybe Justin was lying to you about what he said he heard. Or maybe he was the one who bet Montgomery and now he was trying to get you again on another one. "(Y/N)? What are you doing here?" You froze. That was unexpected.
"I... Uh Well... I..." Your heart was beating fast and loud inside your chest and if he got any closer to you, you were sure he would be able to hear it or maybe if he got any closer your heart would stop beating once for good. You took a deep breath and slowly turned around to face him after what seemed like forever. "I ... I was looking for you actually." You managed to say those few words without your voice breaking.
"What for?"
Even though it wasn't the first time you would see him half-naked, you couldn't seem to focus on what you wanted to tell him. "I ... Can we talk somewhere else?"
"What do you need to talk about that you didn't want to say inside?" You tilted your head up and found him leaning against the metal railing that separated the bleachers from the baseball field. He wasn't wearing his usual plaid shirt but the letterman jacket that he didn't like so much. It always made you smile whenever he complained about having to wear it and you smiled, even more, when he told you he liked it better on you. He was tired, you could hear it from the sound of his voice. Why did you have to know him so well?
"Justin told me there was no bet." You stated without breaking the eye contact you established a few seconds ago. "Correct me if I am wrong but if there was no bet, then there is something else."
"You told Justin?"
"I had the unfortunate idea of telling Jess." You replied crossing your arms over your chest to prevent your hands from shaking even more. "Even though she promised not to tell him, she ended up wanting to help and maybe fix everything up. As if there was something to fix in all this mess." The last part sounded harsher than you thought it would be but didn't he deserve a little pain after all he said to you?
He circled the railing and hopped on the bleachers to sit next to you, his arm slightly brushing over yours and his leg gently bumped yours before he rested it against yours just like he used to do whenever he would sit next to you sending shivers through your body. You hated yourself for reacting like this but you couldn't help it. Not a word came out from his mouth for a moment, it was quite difficult for you to understand what his silence meant really. "Justin was right." He didn't look at you, kept his eyes focused on an invisible point in front of him. "There was no bet and everything I said was bullshit, I meant nothing of it." You didn't expect him to confess so easily. You knew him and you knew how hard it was for him to admit his mistakes but he surprised you, caught you off guard.
Should you feel relieved or should you worry about the real reason behind his behavior? You looked at him, confusion plastered on your face. "What ... Why ... Why did you say that then?"
He rested his head in his hands and sighed. "I can't tell you anything..."
"Why not? I have the right to know why you suddenly decided to break up with me!"
His jaw was so clenched that you were sure that if he pushed a little harder, he would break a tooth. "I didn't fucking decide anything (Y/N)!" A mix of anger and pain was laced in his voice. He never yelled at you even when he was beyond pissed and sure, the tone he used made you shiver and your heart skip beats. He closed his eyes and spoke again, seconds later, in a much calmer tone. "If it was up to me, we would still be together..." As if your heart wasn't broken enough, you felt it shatter into thousand more pieces inside your chest. It was painful in more than a way, frustrating at some point.
"It's not helping, Monty." You whispered.
"I am sorry I can't say anything." He sounded defeated. Montgomery never lied to you. He knew that one wrong move could make you run away from him and picked honesty over anything else to keep the only positive thing that ever happened to him in his life. But the choice made wasn't his. If only you knew. If only you knew that the many nights you cried yourself to sleep, he did too. That whenever you weren't paying attention, he did and blamed himself for everything. He got angry and punched walls and mirrors before he broke into tears, unable to hold himself anymore. He wished he didn't make a move on you almost a year ago so he didn't have to see you broken and dull of your usual sparkling mood. "You were and you will always be the best thing in my life, (Y/N)..."
Tears quickly filled your eyes. "Monty don't..."
"But we can't be together." He didn't look at you because he knew that if he did, he wouldn't be able to hold it together as he did ever since he sat next to you. You were his weakness. Tragic for the strong and tough boy he was. He left you sitting there, lost and even more heartbroken. It was easier for you to believe that you were a bet rather than not knowing the exact reason why Montgomery suddenly decided to break up with you.

Carving Pumpkins
A/N: this was a request for an adorable anon. So here’s a tad fluffy lengthy wanna be Drabble.
Tony Stark x Reader
Warnings: none. Some fluff.
Tumblr media
“This is your idea of a good date? Pumpkins? They’re so messy.”
“Come on Tony. Don’t be so pretentious. It’s fun! Plus, when we’re done, I can bake a pumpkin pie.”
“Baking me pie on the second date huh?”
“Please Tony.. just give it a chance.” Batting your eyes, you pleaded with Tony, who much to his dismay, gave into your request.
“Fine, but only because there will be pie. And it better be good.”
The table was lined with news paper, Sharp carving knives and pumpkins in an assortment of sizes adorned the table. Turning on the oven, you made your way over to the table, where an uncomfortable Tony Stark stood, hands tucked into his pockets.
“Are you ready?” You are giddy. You’d always loved carving pumpkins. Something about it was soothing, and so much fun.
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Handing Tony a knife, you began to cut into the top of your pumpkin. Removing your makeshift lid, you dug in-Opting for your hands instead of a spoon- you began shoveling out the guts, placing them on the lined table.
“That looks horrendous.”
“Don’t be so dramatic! It’s not bad. It’s kind of fun to squish in your hand.” You began to play with a handful of pumpkin guts, squishing it around between your finger tips.
“I’ll take your word for it.”
Grabbing Tony’s hand, you placed it into the pumpkin. A wicked grin grappling at your lips. The look on Tony’s face was priceless, sending you into hysterics. You laughed so hard, tears began collecting in your eyes. Tony was stiff and rigged, as he quickly pulled his orange covered hand from the pumpkin. “You are such a child sometimes. Where’s a towel?”
“Tony breath. Lighten up a little. You’re in your head all the time. Let yourself relax, and enjoy this. It will only fun if you allow yourself to have fun.” Tony looked at you hard, your soft eyes practically begging him to trust you. You wanted to see what Tony was really like. Was there truly more to him than his smart and egotistical charm?
Tony’s face softened, his rigged jaw beginning to relax as he took in a deep breath. “Fine. I’ll genuinely try this time.”
“Thanks tony! I promise I will make it worth your while.” Giving Tony a little wink, you returned back to gutting the pumpkin. Once Tony gave his efforts to carving, he actually began to enjoy himself. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, his hair falling into his face. Watching him as he smiled, it was infectious.
“Thank you Y/N.” Taking your attention from the movie playing on the television, you looked to Tony in confusion.
“For what? The pie? I know, it’s amazing. My great grans recipe, to die for!”
“Not the pie, I mean, the pie is amazing but that’s beside the point. I’m trying to thank you for tonight. I know I was standoffish, but this really was fun, I haven’t had this much fun in, years.”
“No more doubting me okay?” Dragging your finger through the whipped cream topping your pie, you playfully dabbed some onto Tony’s nose and lips. A chuckle gathering in your throat.
“You’ll pay for that.” Tony pulled you into his arms, a squeal escaping your mouth. His lips met yours in a sweet kiss- a kiss that tasted of whipped cream and lingering pumpkin pie.
A smile spread across your lips as you licked the whipped cream from your lips.
“Best date ever.”

The Best Laid Plans...
Part 2 of But It Burns
Summary: When you hit rock bottom, you have nowhere to go and end up on your former best friend’s doorstop, bruised, bloody, and broken. You aren’t expecting him and his girlfriend to take you in and try to patch up your shattered life, especially with the danger your presence puts them in.
Warnings: Language, medical scare, hospitals
Word Count: 3301
Tumblr media
“This is huge! I should call this into the station. At least about Stark.”
“Why don’t you? We don’t own Y/N anything.”
“Buck… she trusted you. Above everyone else. In a matter of life or death, she came to you. Don’t you want to find out why?”
A whispered conversation slowly woke you up. After a moment of floating along the edge of consciousness, you finally tumbled over the edge and managed to just barely hold back a groan of pain. You needed to hear Bucky and Natasha uncensored.
“It’s just what she does, Natasha. She comes to me to try and sweep things under the rug for her when she fucks up. It was like this all throughout college. Maybe if we play this one by the book, call it in, have her actually face her consequences in jail, then she’ll finally get her shit together.”
“Or maybe this baby will set her straight. Maybe we can help her get out of the country, like she said. She could be a valuable asset to us. She was married to Tony Stark. The kind of information she has on the Mob?”
“She says she’s pregnant. She says she was married to Stark. She says the Mob will be after her. The last time I saw her, she was so fucked up on so many different drugs, Nat. Maybe she’s having some kind of drug-induced psychotic break…”
“You don’t believe that, Bucky. I can tell. Y/N’s telling the truth. I know you know it.”
“The truth as she believes it,” he whispered weakly.
You couldn’t blame him for not trusting you. You’d manipulated him into this. Manipulated him into hating you. Into letting you go. Into moving on without you in his life. You’d crushed the dream of a future the two of you had built up with matching houses in the suburbs and kids growing up next to each other and summer vacations with each other’s families. It was your fault you were no longer a part of his life.
Which just reminded you that you needed to get the fuck out of his life again.
Slowly, you opened your eyes. Well, your right eye. The left eye was swollen shut, which wasn’t a surprise in the least. It was a miracle you’d gotten out of your house alive last night, much less all the way across town to Bucky’s apartment.
Bucky and Natasha’s apartment. It wasn’t just his life you were putting in danger by being here.
Experimentally, you lifted you arm to push down the sheet of the bed you were on. They must have finished stitching you up, found some clean clothes for you, and put you in what looked to be a guest room. Tastefully decorated but lacking the personality that came from a constant occupant. Generic paintings from a home décor store and a bookcase with old classics and framed pictures of the two of them.
With careful, measured movements, you swung your feet off the bed until you were sitting up, biting back another groan. Tony hadn’t ever beat you this badly before. Some nights he got drunk and you angered him, but this had been different. It was as if the devil had possessed him. The man you’d married was nowhere to be seen.
It took a moment of deep breathing before you convinced yourself to stand up. As soon as you were upright, a sharp stab of pain hit your abdomen, quickly shooting through your body. A shout of agony escaped your lips and you curled in on yourself, falling to the ground. “Fucking, goddamned mother of shit!”
“Y/N?” Soft fingers danced across your shoulder. Natasha. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t—” another wave of red hot coals rushed through your body, cutting off your words. Something was wrong. Really wrong. Fuck, the baby… You reached down and felt along the leggings you were wearing, eyes widening when your fingers came back red. Wide, terrified eyes darted up to meet Natasha’s. “I’m bleeding. I’m fucking bleeding. God, I’m going to lose my baby. I can’t—I need him. I can’t lose him!”
“We are going to the hospital, Y/N.” Her voice left no room for negotiation. Not that you would have. You’d been an idiot last night. You should have gone straight to the hospital. If you lost your baby, it would be your fault. You wouldn’t be able to live with yourself. Frozen in fear, you could only watch as Natasha looked over her shoulder. “Bucky, bring the car around. I’ll bring Y/N out. And give Steve a call. Have him waiting at the back door of the hospital and a doctor ready as soon as we get there.”
The drive to the hospital happened in a blur. Natasha sat in the back of the car with you, holding your hand while Bucky drove. You were only marginally aware of them. All of your attention was on your baby. You couldn’t feel anything. Could you feel him before now? Why didn’t you know what was going on with him?
“We’re here,” Bucky said in a low voice, drawing your attention. You looked up to see a cop by the back door with a wheelchair. Bucky turned around in his seat to look at you. “That’s Steve. If you trust me you can trust him.”
“Fuck, I don’t even care. Get me to a fucking doctor.”
You could figure out logistics later. Right now, your kid was the only thing that mattered. You tried to keep as quiet as possible when Bucky moved you to the wheelchair, even though it felt like an earthquake was setting off landmines inside of you. Once you were inside the hospital, a nurse and doctor took you from Bucky and wheeled you into a room without windows. They poked and prodded and asked questions upon questions and somehow managed to finagle your entire medical history from you in the first five minutes. On minute six, you were being prepped for surgery. For the second time in less than twenty-four hours, you were pulled under the line of consciousness and left at the mercy of others.
Tumblr media
It felt like you’d been run over by a garbage truck when you woke. Fuck, what happened? You couldn’t even move your legs. They were like cement locked to the bed. Tony had been out checking on a shipment last night, so he couldn’t have—
Fucking shit, you’d killed him. Then you went to Bucky’s and his girlfriend stitched you up and—
“Y/N?” Bucky’s raspy voice broke through your thoughts.
“The baby? What—God, please tell me he’s okay. I can’t feel him, Buck!”
“Whoa, whoa,” Bucky was by your side in an instant, holding your hands still so you wouldn’t rip out your IVs and make things worse. “The baby’s okay, Y/N. He’s fine. As long as you take it easy, he’ll stay that way.”
As his icy blue eyes bore into yours, you forced yourself to calm down, process his words, accept them. “Really?”
Bucky nodded.
Relief flowed through your veins, making your head fall back onto your pillow like a weight. “Oh, thank God.”
Hesitantly, Bucky let go of your hands, as if he wasn’t sure that you wouldn’t start thrashing around again. All you did was move your hand over your stomach gently, as if you’d be able to feel the baby. Bucky pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down, keeping his eyes on you. “You were in surgery for twelve hours. Dr. Banner thinks both you and the kid will be just fine, but he’s putting you on bedrest for at least a month. Maybe the rest of the pregnancy.”
“Gonna make getting to Ecuador a hell of a lot harder,” you mused. But you could make this work. The kid was fine. You were fine. And you’d make damn sure the both of you stayed that way. Which reminded you… “How am I here? Who knows I’m here?”
“Me, Natasha, the doctor and nurses who worked on you, and Steve, Natasha’s partner. But as far as computer records go, it’s Natasha who’s three months pregnant and just had a twelve-hour surgery. We know you were worried about being put in the system.”
“So you decided to commit insurance fraud for me?”
He raised an eyebrow. “No. They’ll bill this, but they’ll make a mistake so the insurance company rejects it. We’ll pay in cash, full. And you will pay us back.”
“With interest,” you promised, closing your eyes. “And hazard pay. And rent for the night I stayed with you.”
“Oh,” Natasha’s voice came from the door, prompting you to open your eyes again. “You’re paying more than one night of rent. You’re on bedrest, sweetie.”
“I can be on bedrest in a hotel room. You’ve already done more than you should have to.”
Bucky let out a short, humorless laugh and leaned forward, elbows on knees. “You came to me. Again. If you didn’t want my help you should have stayed away.”
“I should have,” you agreed quickly. “But I’m still that selfish person I was five years ago. You’re still my safe place and I needed that last night. But I didn’t think about how that would affect you. And I’m sorry for that, but I’m trying to fix it, Bucky.”
“You weren’t selfish, Y/N. Not last night.”
“That’s why I have a cop committing insurance fraud for me while the entire Mob is out for my head on a platter?”
“Why did you come to me last night?”
“I just killed my husband and I was bleeding out and—”
“Why did you come to me last night?” He interrupted to ask again.
“You were the only person I knew wouldn’t kill me—”
“Why did you come to me last night?”
“I don’t know what answer you’re looking for!” You yelled. “I was emotionally strung out and not thinking straight and I needed someone I trusted while I got my feet back under me.”
“You didn’t come to me because you were scared for your own life, Y/N. You were scared for your baby. Making sure you lived long enough for him to be born. That’s why you came to me.”
Huffing a short breath, you looked away and shook your head. “No, I didn’t. If I had then I would have gone to a hospital. I would have chanced being entered into the system so an actual doctor could patch me up and make sure my baby was fine instead of my former best friend and his cop girlfriend.”
“Well, your former best friend and his cop girlfriend have already talked about this,” Natasha said, pulling up another chair. “And you’re staying with us. Tony Stark’s body was found early this morning. James Rhodes was also found dead a few hours ago. I’d guess there’s a few days until someone takes Stark’s mantel and the Mob get in order again. That means we have a few days to figure out how to keep you in our apartment, safe.”
“Safe,” you laughed. “Right. Safe. I’m pregnant with Tony’s baby. His only child. They killed Rhodey because he was Tony’s second. You really think they aren’t going to feel threatened by Tony’s kid? His heir? There are people in the Mob who fucking worshiped the ground Tony walked on. They’re probably searching for me so they can make sure this kid is born, then they’ll kill me and raise the kid so they can brainwash him into their perfect ideals. And the people who want to take Tony’s place? Well, I’m a threat. I know far too much. I’m not safe here.”
“We’ll figure it out, Y/N,” Natasha assured you, to which you just laughed. She brushed off your reaction. “The doctor wants to keep you here overnight. He’ll be in in a few minutes to talk to you himself. Bucky and I will install a new security system at our apartment tonight—”
“No. Fuck, you can’t change anything. If they come looking and find out about Bucky, they’ll notice the new system. It’ll be a red flag.”
“We’ve been looking at new security systems for a few weeks already. It’s not a rash decision.”
“I—” well fine. That wouldn’t be too much of a red flag. Besides, a cop and a P.I. living together? Talk about a couple who had every right to be paranoid. And the opening line to some joke. “Okay. But as soon as I get the green light from the doctor, I’m out of here. I promise you won’t see me again. I’m done putting you in danger.”
“You say that like you’ve put him in danger before,” Natasha observed.
Shit.
“If only you knew how many black eyes he got on the playground because of me…” it was a weak coverup. And, unfortunately, both of them saw right through it.
“Y/N…” Bucky prompted. “When did you put me in danger before?”
The door to your room opened, showing in a doctor and you could have kissed him for his perfectly-timed intrusion.
“Ms. Y/L/N,” he started, eyes still on your chart. You shook your head briefly in surprise. Y/L/N was a name you hadn’t heard since you married Tony. “Your tests look good. Not as good as I’d like, but you’re stable. You and the babies.”
“He’s really fine? He won’t have any problems?”
The doctor – Dr. Banner, Bucky had said – met your eyes and you didn’t like the apology in them. “There is a good chance your babies will be just fine. However, I do want you to be prepared for the developmental issues that might arise. The stress and trauma they endured was substantial. But with proper care, they should be just fine.”
Holy fuck… “Hold up…They?”
“You’re carrying twins, Ms. Y/L/N.”
“What the fuck?” It was like all of the air had been sucked out of your lungs. “Fucking twins?”
Dr. Banner nodded. “It’s a miracle both of them survived.”
“How the hell didn’t I know I’m having twins before now?”
“You’re about ten weeks along, which is usually when the ultrasound shows if you’re going to have more than one child. Would you like to meet them?”
“I— I don’t know.” Twins… What would Tony have done with twins? Would he have chosen a favorite? Were you going to end up choosing a favorite? What kind of a mother did you hope to be? One child had been a daunting enough future. But two?
“You don’t know?” Bucky challenged. “How can you not know?”
What kind of a mother didn’t even want to see her children on an ultrasound? Your eyes fell to your hands laying limply in your lap. The hands that killed the father of these children. Shit.
“Okay, men out,” Natasha announced, standing up to pull Bucky out of his chair. “Y/N and I are going to have a little chat.”
“Nat—”
“Out,” she ordered, cutting Bucky’s protest short. It wasn’t long before it was just you and Natasha in the room. She took a deep breath before turning towards you. “So, twins, huh?”
“I can’t do this.” It just slipped out. “Fuck.”
Natasha perched on the edge of the bed. “You’d be surprised at what you can do.”
“I started working at a bar and dealing drugs part time for my boss in college and somehow ended up marrying and ultimately killing the Mob Boss of Brooklyn not even six years later. There’s very little that would surprise me about myself anymore.”
“Dealing drugs? Bucky never told me that.”
“Bucky doesn’t know.” With a shaking hand, you carefully lifted up the hospital gown you were wearing and looked down at the white bandage on your abdomen from where they’d made the incision during surgery. “Fucking twins. God has a twisted sense of humor.”
If you could stay alive until you gave birth then you could give them up for adoption. Let them go to a family that would raise them right. It would be anonymous. They’d be safe from the zealous mobsters who followed your husband.
“Look, Y/N. If you give us intel on the Mob, I can get you into Witness Protection. You’ll be safe there.”
“They’ll find me there. You really think someone’s safe from the Mob just because they have a brand spankin’ new government issued ID?”
Six months. That was how long you’d have to stay alive. Just long enough for your babies to be adopted by someone else. After that, no one would care what happened to you. After that you wouldn’t have to worry so much. It would just be your life on the line. And your life wasn’t worth much.
“What’s your big plan, then?”
“Ecuador. Los Cuernos de Cobre keeps away the Brooklyn Mob. Really the only enemies that can hold a candle to the Mob. They don’t know my face there. I’ll be safest there.”
“Too bad the doctor said you’re not cleared for travel of any kind. Sounds like you’re stuck here a little longer.”
“I’ll figure something out,” you mumbled.
Natasha glanced around the room and sighed heavily. “Look, Y/N. I don’t know you. And I instantly didn’t like you when Bucky told me about you. But… There’s another side to your history with him, isn’t there? A reason you were such a bitch to him.”
“Nope,” you lied. “That’s just who I am.”
“I’d be a horrible detective if I believed you.” She reached for your hand and you hesitated before letting her take it. “You’re going to be staying with us for a few weeks. If you take off now, Bucky will worry himself sick over you. He’s still hurt over what went down five years ago between you two. So don’t you dare think you can just sneak out. Promise me that you’ll, I don’t know, talk to him? Talk to me? He loves you. I don’t know in what way he loves you, but he does. And after everything you’ve put him through, he deserves to know why you treated him like that.”
“Great idea,” you mumbled. “Let the hormonal, pregnant murderer into your home.”
“Self-defense, Y/N. You killed him in self-defense.”
“Maybe I wasn’t just talking about him. You don’t know shit about me, Natasha. If you did, you’d arrest me right now.”
She smirked, squeezing your fingers. “Don’t worry, Y/N. I haven’t ruled that option out yet.”
You really didn’t have any options here. No say. You were going to be staying with Bucky and his cop girlfriend for the foreseeable future. At least she was likeable. She wasn’t going to take your shit. But she also wasn’t going to be an easy target to pull the wool over her eyes.
“I’m glad he has you,” you said honestly. “You seem like the kind of person he deserves.”
“You don’t know shit about me, Y/N,” she stole your words with a half-smile.
“And if I did, I have a feeling I’d be saying the exact same thing.”
She squeezed your fingers again before letting go and standing up. “You should take the doctor up on that ultrasound. See those cute little blobs and remind yourself why you got yourself into this shit-storm in the first place. You’re protecting them.”
Just before she reached the door, you called out her name. She turned and caught your eye. “Thank you, Natasha. And, uh, can you send in the doctor? You’re right. I should—I should see the babies. Remember why I killed him.”
She caught the way your voice broke on the last sentence and tilted her head. “You loved him, didn’t you? Stark?”
“More than I should have,” you confirmed, offering a half smile to mask the pain.
