#i though that one of the children in the group was named eddie like the one with the curly black hair maybe? #wasn’t there a dilf that looked like the dad from good luck charlie and wasn’t his name eddie? #and then there was two bisexuals in sailor outfits and the boy looked like tom holland with hair and i thought his name was eddie?? #and then now i’m forcibly forced to see this unhinged (bad guy?) with long hair and plays guitar and his name is eddie i guess too???

Things I screamed about in ATSV (spoilers)

-Got to rewatch the film so I’m just going to add the colours changing to warmer tones when Gwen hugs her father. Not even ten minutes in and I was already crying.

-Realised that we missed the Gwen-Vulture fight BUT got to see Jessica Drew enter the scene like a bad ass in her bad ass bike and hearing the audience collectively say ‘me too’ when Gwen asked if Jessica could adopt her. 

-Screaming OSCAR ISAAC when Miguel spoke

-Lyla. Just Lyla.

- ‘Do you say anything other than no?’ ‘No-YES!’ more of miguel and jessica pls

-The Spot’s introduction. I didn’t see any promotional stuff, teasers or even trailers before watching this film so I had no idea who or what the The Spot was which was great because he really went from villain of the week to villain of the movie. And they clearly had a great time choreographing the fight scenes with him

-Miles’ heating up the beef patty while the spot and the convenience store man argue

-Miles patting the spot’s with a ‘good cow’ text

-Gwen and Miles both having to deepen their voices to avoid being recognised by their respective cop dads

-Miles saying that he can get two cakes when the counsellor says you can’t have your cake and eat it too and then bringing two cakes for his father’s party and neither of them saying what he wanted to convey. 

-Rio and Jeff scolding an annoyed miles but instantly smiling when a relative hugs them what an universal experience 

-Gwen teasing Miles for drawing her in his notebook almost obsessively but also breaking the biggest rule to spend time with him knowing the consequences. 

-As they went to talk, my friend leaned over and said ‘yeah I bet they will talk’ and when they only talked he groaned very loudly at which point I had to remind him Miles was only 15 

-Watching Jeff talk to Spiderman about his son not knowing his son is spiderman

-The DJ increasing the volume when Miles’ parents started scolding him in the middle of the party (the real mvp of the movie actually) 

-JK Simmons cameo that no one seems to be talking about??? Embarrassingly enough I had to literally scream into my friend’s ear for most of the people to realise it was indeed JK Simmons

-Just the entire Mumbattan scene. It was so exciting to see my city be represented like that, still a bit cliched in my opinion but not like Slumdog so obviously they have updated their views. Everything from the traffic gag to Pav’s rant about chai tea had the theatre howling. Also the detail of the thought boxes (?) and sounds being written in Hindi 

-Screaming DANIEL KALUUYA

-My friend and I are huge fans of the UK punk scene (her for the ideologies and myself for the music and fashion) so Hobie was a dream come true. He was already super cool with his guitar and mohawk costume but when he revealed his face it was just so amazing

-Gayatri is every indian’s dream girl with her modern shirt-flannel and jeans combo mixed with bangles and piercings I really wish we get to see more of her in the next movie. Anyway there was a lot of wolf-whistling and hooting for her and Pav

-Also Pavitr literally means pure I don’t know if they did that on purpose or not but I love it

-His pet name being Pav cured my soul

-’This is the most emotional I have seen him’ and Captain Singh has no emotions at all

-I want to see how they came up with so many spider designs because each was so unique and immediately endearing. My friend who is also a big dinosaur fan screamed DINOSAUR 

-Kind of obsessed with how detailed Ben Reilly’s arms are they did not need to go that hard with it

-Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being referred to as ‘the little nerd’ by Miguel

-When everyone was making puns about the Spot my friend leaned over and said ‘i wonder which hole the spot prefers’ it is a miracle we are still friends actually

-The Donald Grover cameo!!!

-Peter B Parker having a cute little baby with the love of his life is what he deserves

-Miguel O Hara is one step away from becoming a Batman-Spiderman 

-Hobie’s admiration for Mayday being the avatar of chaos Spider-baby

-Screaming ANDY SAMBERG

-I think they saw the appreciation for the art style in the previous film and then trebled it for this film and I cannot thank them enough for it

-Peter complaining about how Miguel breaks the Spiderman tradition of being funny and witty and Miguel being the first anomaly 

-Every scene with the Spot is very unnerving because as I said, you watch him transform from this joker to a literal void of vengeance and it is every bit of terrifying

-Miguel is a man suffering from the destruction of an entire universe because of his selfish actions and forcing that anomaly narrative on a fifteen year old boy who became a spiderman on accident and doesn’t want his father to die because of that. Unlike the Spot, who isn’t even human anymore, Miguel is drowning in grief and guilt and trying to ignore it by holding the weight of the spider-verse on his shoulder. I hated him so much for making a boy go through that but then I just couldn’t in the end. 

-Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire cameo!!! Hopefully we’ll get a fun Tom Holland one too in the next movie.

-’Let me guess, he died?’ being a therapist for Spider Men must be a fairly boring job after a few patients.

-I just loved the absolute of wrongness of the scene where Miles returns ‘home’. The rain and darkness. I didn’t really think about Rio asking Miles what happened to his hair because I thought she was referring to the rain (although of course she wouldn’t ask him why his hair was wet when it was obviously raining outside) but realised something was wrong when he didn’t know about comic con but she did because in the first film there’s a joke about Peter B Parker explaining the concept to Miles. 

- This movie is not good for my father related issues

-The glaring neon welcome sign when the gang end up in Earth 42

-How did Uncle Aaron get even scarier? 

-Miles being the Prowler is honestly a great twist I saw it coming but still felt the shock of the reveal

-Prowler Miles having an accented voice meaning his father probably died when he was young and he only had his mom growing up

-Can’t wait for the original spider team to return for the third film seeing as they brought back Spider-Man Noir and Spider Ham and Peni Parker

-Screaming WHAT when the ‘to be continued’ appeared because that cliffhanger is absolutely destructive. All that adrenaline and excitement just popped. I’m still oscillating between being impressed and being disappointed. 

I probably skipped over a lot of other scenes because these were the most memorable and I only watched the film once (unfortunate) but I can’t wait for the movie to hit streaming services and watch it again and again for all the other details I missed. Ill probably keep adding things as I remember

Spider-Who?(Pavitr Prabhakar x Reader)

"Woah, he's awesome..." I sigh in amazement as I watch Pav swoop through the streets of Mumbattan.

"Mumbattan has the worst traffic I tell ya...aye, wot er you lookin at, kid?" Hobie asks as he realizes I've got my eyes focused on the streets below.

"Just...stuff..." I dodge his question as I take a bite of my scone, courtesy of your 2nd favorite Brit. It's me, I'm the 1st favorite Brit of course.

"Too right...you ready to skedaddle back to our universe kid? I miss me guitar." Hobie shrugs, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

"Er...yeh, I guess." I sigh, watching as Hobie opens a portal(idk how the portal thing works Sue me).

"Hey guys! Leaving so soon?" Pav suddenly lands next to us, looking flawlessly perfect despite fighting a whole villain just a second ago.

"Yeh, sorry mate but yer universe is borin...right kid?" Hobie asks me. I barely hear him and decide to disregard it in favor of staring at Pav.

"Kid? Hello? Yer brain get hit with a rock...?" Hobie asks, popping me in the back of my head.

"I'm good! I'm great. Sorry, were said what you?" I immediately realize my sentence makes no sense as Pav and Hobie both look at me in confusion.

Hobie locks eyes with me.

Don't look at Pav, don't look at Pav, don't look at Pav...

My eyes dart to Pav and quickly go back to Hobie's.

FUCK.

"Oh, I gotcha...lil bugger's got a crush. Ain't that a bitch...wild how he ain't even from your own universe." Hobie says casually.

"What? Is it someone from the Spider Society?! Miles? Or Gwen?" Pav starts throwing out random names of teenage Spider-Men from the society.

"Wait...don't tell me it's....Miguel?!" Pav looks at me in disgust for a second before I shoot a web at his mouth.

As I watch Pavitr try to pry the web off Hobie pulls me to the side.

"C'mon, you gotta pick another. Love Pav, but he's...y'know....Pav." Hobie trails off, assuming I understand him.

"Well yeh, but he's also...Pav, y'know?" I argue slightly.

"Right and I get that...but he's Pav." Hobie complains to me, his grip on my shoulder tightening.

"I'm not gonna have this conversation with you Hobart. Don't you have taxes to file?" I ask with an eye roll.

"Fine, fine!" Hobie holds both his hands up in surrender. "You gonna tell 'im soon? Might have to spell it out since he's...Pav." Hobie shrugs.

"You mean you don't care?" I ask with a raise of my eyebrow.

"Course not kid. He might be Pav, but 'e's also Pav." Hobie emphasizes his words like it'll magically make sense.

"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Pav asks, finally joining us.

I give Hobie a silent plead.

"Nun much...I was bout to head back. Kid said she wants to stay awhile though." Hobie lies.

For reference I was thinking it but I didn't want to say it.

"Oh, great! I can show you my favorite street food stands and where the stray dogs are and where all the traffic is!"

"Oh. Where all the traffic is...great. Can't wait." I try to fake being excited.

"Catch you later, bugger. Try not to get pied off loser!" Hobie does a small salute before stepping through an open portal.

"Huh...? What does pied off mean?" Pav asks with an eyebrow raise.

"Nothing! Nothing at all...honestly it doesn't mean anything." I lie straight to Pav's face.

"...I don't believe you." Pav replies with suspicion in his eyes.

"Uhhhh....oh my god, is that Tom Holland?" I gasp loudly and point at the streets below us.

Pav's neck almost snaps as he looks.

"What?! Where?!"

Phew. Safe. Nailed it.

I watch as Pav swings down to the streets to find Tom Holland, who was never there in the first place.

I'll tell him. One day. But today is not the day.

Random ActorAU Character Headcanons: RadioStatic Edition(Platonic; Besties)

Vox (Surname: Borle)

- He's a theater kid so he sometimes makes random references to plays or popular musicals. - "It's hard to be the bard~!" - Actually knows how to play the guitar and piano. - Absolutely hates the recorder(instrument) which Lucifer makes fun of him for. - His fashion sense is a war crime and if it weren't for Velvette he would've continued to look and dress like an idiot. - Like, the most apallingly ugly/colored patterns on his shirts, jackets or socks- - Can't tie a bowtie for shit, he knows how to wear a proper necktie though. - His costume in the show uses a clip-on unless it's supposed to look messy and undone. - Hates the summer heat with a passion. - Wears the thinnest layers during winter, loves the freezing cold. - Has somewhat of a sweet tooth, but drinks his coffee black. - Responsible for the most bloopers on set. - Either from tripping over things or because he can't stop laughing. - He actually drew the Alastor doodle from episode 2. - Which was still somehow better than Alastor's attempt at drawing his own character. - And he drew it during one of the script table readings out of boredom. - Vark is actually his dog, a huge golden retriever who was costumed as a shark for the "Get Off My Screen" Series. - Unironically has a huge hat collection, just because he can. - Would wear a different one every day to set no matter how random because it makes people laugh and smile when they see him. - He actually studied to be a software engineer before shifting courses to take acting instead. - So he does know how to code and mess with electronics. - Loves energy drinks and panera's charged lemonade. - Actually helps bend into his canon character's eccentric personality. - Regularly causes chaos on set. - Has broken his TV headpiece a number of times already. - Can't be told about the script in advance because he's prone to accidentally spoiling during interviews(like Tom Holland). - Doesn't have his own car, takes the train or taxis to get around. - On the more inexperienced side of the cast since he's not a bigshot actor like the others. - This show's actually been his first time on the big screen. - Can and will infodump about sharks if you let him. - Knows how to cook but only simple meals. - Pretty chatty, a dork and all around just a fun guy to be around.

Alastor (Surname: Bosco)

- Collects watches and sometimes shows them off when he can. - Does not know how to play an instrument at all. - That sequence in "Hell's Greatest Dad" with him on the piano? - He was just pressing random keys when the cameras rolled. - He has the vocal range of a god though. - Like this man can SING. - Prefers old things, and hilariously still even has an old radio in his home. - So his character is based on a lot of his preferences. - His wardrobe also reflects that. - Either on or off-screen this man looks dapper and posh. - Doesn't even need them but he wears glasses sometimes. - Just because it looks nice. - Loves his character's monocle and will wear it even without the whole costume. - Still uses an old Nokia, can't begin to wrap his head around an Iphone. - Is one of the screenwriters for the show, so a lot of the stupid or corny things that happen are mostly his fault. - Except for pentious' joke death. - He was sick when they wrote that so he wasn't able to stop everyone else. - Also has the most whack ass sleep schedule since he's often one of the last to leave but first to arrive on set. - Helps play into his canon character's creepiness and oddity. - Hence chugs coffee like it's his lifeline. - Hates the taste of energy drinks so you won't catch him with those. - This man is never late, ever. - Hates the cold, loves the heat. - Will be bundled up like the michelin mascot during winter it's hilarious. - Most often seen with Vox and they're both usually up to no good. - Either just messing with random things on set or actually being borderline chaotic. - Still calls soda 'pop'. - Can actually speak french. - Knows how to cook and cook WELL. - His mama taught him, and it's a fact he will always be proud to say. - Drives an Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a bright flaming red paintjob. - Yes it's a car model from the late seventies/early eighties. - He doesn't care if it's old it's his favorite thing ever and he takes care of that car like it's his child. - Doesn't prefer candy much, he'd rather give it to Nix or Vox. - Loves dark chocolate though.

(OKAY- When it came to the surnames- I know I mentioned that these guys take on the surnames of their actual VAs but I thought it'd be kinda funny to have both Al and Vox to have similar surnames since in this AU they swim in chaotic besties/sibling energy so yes- a reference to Alastor's pilot VA Edward Bosco! No this is not me saying one is better than the other, I seriously just wanted to make more funny pairs with these two idiots while they playfully piss each other off XD)

The chain in a talent show

Wild: an acrobatic / parkour / archery show that puts de Cirque du Soleil to shame. Somehow he has a flamethrower. And fire arrows. And fire knives.

Legend: instead of whipping out any of his instruments, he sings a song he composed, filled with emotion. Warriors denies that he cried, but his eyes are puffy and he hums the tune when he’s laying down in bed.

Twilight: shows off his animal training skills. A dog performs smooth tricks without Twilight ever even voicing the commands out loud. A cat meows and purrs a familiar melody. A goat jumps through a series of hoops.

Hyrule: he plays the recorder. A group of fairies follow him the entire time, and start forming patterns and figures to go with the music.

Four: puts on a magic show. The rest never figure out how he managed to make it look like he was in multiple places at once.

Time: everyone assumes he will play the ocarina, but at the last moment he whips out the Zora Guitar. He plays a mash-up of New Wave Bossa Nova and Hotel California.

Wind: does a comedy stand-up show. His impressions make Time fall backwards laughing. At some point, he re-tells his final battle with Ganondorf with an improv rap song.

Sky: an eerily believable ventriloquist act. For some reason the Master Sword is on his back (he had meant to speed-carve a loftwing, but he slept in and couldn’t find a good wood piece in time)

Warriors: Tom Holland’s “Umbrella” lip sync performance. No further comments.

What I Love About You: An Incomplete List of Things That I Love About Taylor Zakhar Perez

This is going to be a mix of prose and a list, so a mix of Henry and Alex (if you know, you know). This is also gonna be a forever incomplete list because the more I get to know Taylor, the more I fall in love with him and there's always something about him that surprises me every day.

These are also purely descriptive but somehow, the words, similes and metaphors that I use in this is perfectly apt for the way I feel. So take that however you wish.

With that said, here we go...on to the long list.... (Read at your own time, please.)

His beautiful brown eyes that's the color of chocolate that transforms into whiskey when struck by daylight.

His eyelashes that's as long as Bambi's and it frames his dark eyes like the petals of a flower.

His soft yet lethal smile that never fails to make my heart flutter.

His thick dark hair filled with lush curls and somehow always looks both tousled and coiffed to perfection.

His jawline that seems to be perfectly cut that it could slice an apple. (It's mesmerizing to look at, if I feel like being honest)

His physique that could battle Tom Holland and Chris Hemsworth (I swear, someone put him in a superhero movie and I will surely be watching it!)

His deep voice that is pure music to my ears. (One of the main reasons that I rewatch The Kissing Booth 2 is to hear him sing.)

The captivating way his fingers strum the strings of a guitar (I only saw him do this in TKB 2, but still).

His adventurous and nature-loving spirit (A day with him is probably deadly for an introvert like me because he adores adventurous stuff, but hey, I would honestly do it just to spend time with him).

His passion for fashion sustainability (I love that he talks about this on his social media accounts and informs his followers about the effects of synthesized fabrics to the planet).

His fashion sense and the way he can turn even the plainest piece of clothing into a masterpiece (Like that denim blue jacket in RWRB is still one of my most favorite Alex looks).

The way he walks as if the entire world is his fashion runway (Like I swear, Taylor has a way of walking that makes you think that a sidewalk is the fashion catwalk).

The way he slays various types of jewelry (I was never attracted to men wearing jewelry before but something about the way he combines like a necklace with a couple of bracelets and rings is slaying).

His love and care for his family (He is a family-oriented person and I love that so much).

The tight bond he keeps with his friends and co-stars (Like I love how he keeps in touch with Nicholas, Joey and Maisie even after their projects).

His dedication to character work and understanding his characters (He read the RWRB book 7-8 times to fully understand Alex Claremont-Diaz, like that is DEDICATION!!).

The mere fact that he is a bookworm (Taylor is probably one of those people who can read multiple books at once while still able to remember every storyline of each book, which leaves me awestruck because I cannot do that).

His sense of humor and wit that always makes me laugh (His replies to people on social media and sometimes, his captions are filled with puns, which is hilarious to me and I always enjoy reading them. Also when he uses that filter that makes his eyes pop out, hilarious!).

When he portrayed a douche in "1Up" but I couldn't fully hate that character because of him (Like, how could I possibly hate Taylor? I have no reason to. He could portray the vilest of villains and I would still love that character).

How he manages to stay optimistic and how he always protects his peace (Optimism is what we need in today's world, folks!)

His creativity (Like have you seen his tiktoks and videos on Instagram? They slay!!)

He's a big Potterhead (Taylor's read all the books multiple times, ate the candies and sweets featured in the series. He probably has a collection of Harry Potter items at his house).

The way he just does not have any bad angles in photos (He's photogenic from every angle, to be completely honest).

His kindness and openness to fans (his fan encounters are always such a gem to see and it honestly melts my heart).

The way he doesn't let haters and rumors bother him (This is one of the secrets to success in the industry, I guess!)

He's goal-oriented and knows what he wants (I have a feeling he's selective to what projects he pursues and products he advertises because he really knows what he wants to put out in the world).

He knows his values and what he stands for (He lost followers on IG because of posting about his supply chain trips but he didn't let that stop him from continuing to post about them).

His compassionate and loving heart (I won't say more).

His determination to use his platform for good things (He's that kind of influencer and I really love that).

His love for his characters, regardless of how similar or different they are to his own personality.

How fans have no bad things to say about him (Really, ask any TZP fan and they will say no bad things about him).

So...it's kind of ironic how I ended at 31, considering that is Taylor's age but hey, we're not gonna talk about how old he looks because to be honest, he always manages to look younger than he is (I honestly thought he was 27 to 28 in RWRB).

This is the incomplete list of things I love about Taylor Zakhar Perez. Other than what is stated here, I will continue to love him for plenty more reasons, some I cannot even put into words because sometimes, he just renders me speechless.

Home Sweet Home - Tom Holland x reader request: yes pairing: tom holland x reader warning: fluff word count: 630 words n/a: hello, i'm glad you asked this because i needed it so much. It's very therapeutic to be honest. I'm not really proud of it. It's not proofread and it's not that long but it's a good start to come back again, i guess. I hope you'll like it and it will make you feel exactly how you asked.

It seemed like your head was going to explode after the grueling day you had just passed. All you wanted was to be able to take off your shoes and snuggle up against your boyfriend. This kind of mundane evening when you’re an established couple. Mundane certainly, but very comforting. The rattling of your keys in the lock caught the attention of an inhabitant of the house and you were greeted by Tessa’s lovingly playful figure, her warm eyes and her sweet mouth pushed you to greet her with tenderness for several long seconds. 

Your gaze then landed in the living room but you found no one there. You headed to the kitchen to discover a single cup of tea, right next to the sink. You pinched your lips, cursing gently your boyfriend. But you couldn’t blame him, you had this habit of keeping your cup all day and only putting it in the dishwasher once you were sure you weren’t using it again for the rest of the day. Tom did exactly the same thing. "Thomas?" you asked after him. You walked up the stairs to the bedroom, where Tom often read his scripts, highlighter and pen by hand so that he could write annotations about the intention to put in his lines. When you walked through the door frame, your eyebrows frowned. Still no trace of your boyfriend.  "Tom? Babe?" you requested again. But still no answer.

That’s when you heard the melodious sound of the guitar, and you instinctively went to the room that was your desk. 

He was there. More beautiful than ever, in his comfortable pajamas. You stood there quietly until his gaze came upon you and missed a note. You giggled while shaking your head before walking towards him. Your arms are wrapped around his shoulders and you were tucking your nose into his neck when you felt Tom stop playing.

"Please continue. You play really well"

Your boyfriend smiled and began to play without thinking, your favorite song. Your arms tightened against him, touched by the attention. 

"How was your day, my love"

“Exhausting, i’m glad to come back home and cuddle you”

Tom couldn’t help smiling stupidly, just as crazy in love with you as you were with him. He turned his head to kiss the top of your skull, while you were still nestled in his neck, listening to the sweet melody produced by his fingers pinching the strings of the guitar. There were some imperfections but you did not pay attention...because the man played an instrument while giving you the attention you asked. Could it be more perfect ? 

He could. Tom started whispering the lyrics to the song and once again you snuggled deeper against him, causing him to giggle a little. The position was not the most comfortable but feeling your boyfriend against you, discreetly inhaling the scent of his shampoo, it was the cure for all your ailments. 

The melody slowly slowed down and you still felt a kiss on your skull.

"How about you go to bed and use me as a human hot water bottle?"

"Would I get kisses?"

"All the kisses you need, my love"

You gently nodded the head and Tom put down his guitar before turning slightly towards you. You had to loosen your embrace so he could encircle you with his arms. His arms went under your thighs and he carried you as you chuckled in that romantic gesture. You raised your head to admire the chocolate eyes of your fantastic boyfriend. 

"I love you so much, Thomas"

"Not as much as I love you."

He smiled at you and put his lips against yours as he walked confidently to the door of the bedroom where you spent the evening hugging.

why is the headstock to thoms Yairi Dy88 different than every other Yairi Dy88 I see pictures of?

For those who don't know, the K.Yairi DY-88 is an electro-acoustic guitar that Thom used on tour during the OK Computer era. He had two of them, but donated one to a homeless-support charity auction in 2004. The lack of sound-hole on the guitar means it won't feedback at high volumes, which makes it useful as a touring instrument. He seems to have first purchased one in around 1996, after the band's touring gear was stolen in October of 1995. Thom was perhaps most notably seen with the K.Yairi during Paranoid Android and No Surprises on Later... with Jools Holland in 1997. He also played one heavily during the 1997 Glastonbury festival, including for Karma Police.

However, it's worth noting that Thom likely used other acoustics in studio for OK Computer — particularly for Climbing Up The Walls, since that song features Thom singing into the soundhole of an acoustic (Nigel recently confirmed that Thom did so on the recording, not just at live shows).

Headstock Inlays: K.Yairi vs Alvarez

In the late-90s photo seen above, the headstock shape looks pretty standard, comparing it to others on Reverb. The main difference is the headstock inlays. DY-88 instrument sold under the Alvarez brand simply have that company's logo inlaid on the headstock (as seen in those Reverb listings). Instruments sold under the Yairi brand have "K.YAIRI" inlaid at the top, and Yairi's triangle logo inlaid underneath. In addition, Yairi switched to a larger version of their inlay at some point in the 1990s. In the photo above, Thom's guitar has the latter inlays.

For most models, it's just a marketing difference. Alvarez is a USA-based brand/distributor, so guitars made for US market have that logo. According to some, instruments sold in the USA were marked as "Alvarez", while those sold in the UK and other regions were branded "K.YAIRI". If you dig around, you can also find instruments made for the Japanese market with the K.YAIRI inlays, including this eBay listing for a model called the YD-88S. But you can also found Alvarez-branded guitars sold in Japan, such as this YD-88 CTM with super simple fretboard inlays.

You can also find versions of the 88 with a rounder headstock shape sold by both brands. The official YD-88BK webpage shows an instrument with the K.YAIRI markings and the rounded shape. The "BK" in the model number stands for "black", and you can find maple ("M") and sunburst ("SB") versions as well.

Fingerboard Inlays: Round vs Pointy

The fretboard inlays inlays add even more confusion. Thom's guitar has "pointy" triangular inlays along one edge of the fingerboard, with triangles at both edges at the twelfth fret. But at least two other inlay patterns were used on these guitars, seemingly at the same time. The other patterns are noticeable in some of the listings that we linked to above. Here's a used listing in the USA for a black DY-88 with the same "pointy" fingerboard inlays as Thom's guitar, but with Alverez branding. Here's a used listing in Japan for a YD-88 with the same fingerboard inlays but with the K.YAIRI headstock inlays (it also features an aftermarket Roland MIDI modification — that guitar must've had an interesting life!). So the fingerboard inlays aren't specific to any region.

Model Number: YD-88 vs DY-88

You may have noticed that some of these are listed as "YD" rather than "DY". Here's a used listing in Japan for a black, 1993 YD-88 that looks identical to Thom's instrument, with both the K.YAIRI branding and the "pointy" inlays. This is one of few listings that shows an actual photo of the official model number, and it's listed as YD-88BKN. Presumably these same instruments were exported to the UK as well. But it's believable that Thom could've bought the guitar in the UK or when touring in Japan. So it seems likely that Thom's guitar is in fact a K.YAIRI YD-88, rather than a DY-88.

However, I can't find any consistent difference in the specs between the YD and DY version. So it may also have been regional marketing, just like the brand inlays on the headstock.

Needless to say, this company created quite a few aesthetic variations over the course of the 90s, but ultimately they all seem to be the same instrument.

The soundcheck is over, Alcatraz sold out, a thousand Milanese waiting to see the star of the evening: the Belgian-Egyptian singer Tamino. He relaxes behind the scenes, drinks green (tea) and wears black (Armani): like a 26-year-old prince of darkness. He has gentle manners, and a voice that vibrates on a broad spectrum. From the dark depths (the school is the one that goes from Leonard Cohen and Jacques Brel to Jeff Buckley and the alt-rock genre called “shoegaze”: emo tones, monochord guitars) to an angelic falsetto.

Soon, Tamino will go out there on stage and, without doing ballets or stepping on flowers, almost motionless except for when he holds his oud (a lute of the Arab tradition), he will attract attention. He is hieratic, with the charisma of a crusader of introverts, quiet people, and young romantic heroes; what allowed him to create a following that goes from [sic], (Colin Redwood [sic], former bassist of Radiohead, left Thom Yorke's group to follow him through studios and tours) up to the Arab world, from which it takes up sounds and instruments.

Amir, the title of your first album and your middle name, means "prince" in Arabic. Were you raised as a little prince?

Well, I don't think so. Princes lead a very controlled life, lots of rules, discipline. I had a free childhood.

For the idea of calling you Tamino, like the young prince in Mozart's Magic Flute, we should thank your mother, Eva (de Pauw, anthropologist, hobby musician, passionate about cultures). What was it like growing up in Belgium?

Inspiring in many ways: lots of good art, music, art movements. From the Surrealism of René Magritte, to the music of Tom Barman's dEUS, a band that has opened many doors to the alternative scene. Then there are the negative sides in the social culture: in Belgium we tend not to value the potential of others... We are made like this, we like to see ourselves laying low, leveling ourselves up.

You realized this as soon as you finished compulsory school and left to study music in Holland.

It was an enlightening and difficult experience. From cool Antwerp designers to Amsterdam street style. Two hours by train and you land in another world. I wanted to shake off the provincial part of Belgium.

Habibi: I needed love

And your first hit song was born right in Amsterdam, in 2017: Habibi ... an Arabic and universal word of love.

You can say it to your loved one, to good friends, but also to a waiter: “Come here habibi, bring me a coffee”... Well, during the first days in Amsterdam I was depressed, very lonely, it was difficult to find human ties. I was looking for warmth, love: that piece came from there.

Of that vagueness that generates universality...

I think back to a title from the Talking Heads: Stop making sense. When you write lyrics for a song, you don't have to chase a precise meaning. Better ask yourself if your words convey the right feelings.

Typically Tamino: the yearning, the nostalgia. Songs like Indigo night: nocturnal, brooding, even melancholy. You recognise yourself in it?

I certainly tend to ruminate on things a lot. Too much...

An app to free yourself from the ego

And how do you free yourself from it?

Meditation helps. I also use a specific app, Waking Up: Beyond Meditation. Ten minutes a day is enough. It helps me to free myself from the ego, to feel myself a witness of thought, of consciousness. Simply necessary. More than diet or physical training.

Sahar, the title of the second and most recent album, means "at the crack of dawn."

For me it is already part of the past: the last words I sing are “before I step into darker days”...

That is: “Prima d'inoltrarmi in giorni più oscuri.”

I mean: before facing new torments, new struggles. What helps you grow is discomfort. That's the challenge. Never be afraid to step into the unknown.

Out of the comfort zone...

I like spending some time in New York. I stay out of my own comfort zone, it's not comfortable for me. And doing so inspires me.

Lone sailor

In the video for Sunflower, a duet with the singer Angèle, you have the air of a romantic hero. Do you want to act?

In that video I enjoyed interpreting, even without lines, this figure of the lonely sailor. This was an idea from the director. I've only done a little theater and at most a few sailing trips with friends.

Would you be a testimonial for a perfume?

Well, yes, under the right conditions... For example, a prestigious operation like the Bleu de Chanel campaign with Gaspard Ulliel, with that spot directed by Martin Scorsese.

A spot that stylises the clichés of a rock star life: glamorous places, flashes, meetings with crazy people...

In reality it scares me to meet too many people. I'm a very lonely guy. Even though I’m finding it easier and easier for me to make connections lately, I steer clear of glam dinners or events.

Then you spends the whole summer on the road

I have fun at festivals. My favourite is Into the Great Wide Open, on the island of Vlieland, Holland: 10,000 people, zero cars, music, love and kindness.

Your summer also includes two Italian stages.

I always like to play in Italy. The warmer the countries, the warmer the audience.

I live in Türkiye

Who knows in the Middle East, or in Africa.

We do the biggest lives in Turkey: crazy crowds. And Egypt is like coming home: you feel that for the people it is more than just a concert.

Your surname is famous in Egypt. Your grandfather Muharram Fouad was a musical star, your father started out as a performer.

It's like an Egyptian dynasty of music. A fun fact about me being a huge Lord of the Rings fan is that I've always felt like Aragorn, the legitimate heir to the Elven throne, who travels incognito. Nobody ever knows who he is. I felt like this growing up in Belgium. It was never talked about, nor was there much money, and that side of the family has only emerged now that I'm better known.

Who among the main names would you bring next to you at the festival of your dreams?

I don't even know if I would put myself among the top names... I'd like Anouar Brahem, Tunisian, master of the oud. And then something electronic, maybe the Aphex Twins. And I dream of working with Massive Attack.

Many festivals. But never a festive song?

I should write one first. But generally gloomy, tenebrous things come out to me.

Let's say you sing one happy song and save the world; which one do you choose?

I don't know if a happy song could save the world. Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side?

The height of happiness.A matter of feeling: a song can be sad in itself, but make you feel good. A glimmer of hope, an air of comfort. It can wrap you in emotions. Maybe you're sad, and that's okay: because you feel alive. A song full of life: well, for me it will always be a good song.

Her parents’ only tape was a Tom Lehrer album on tape, leading Tunstall to discover the world of music entirely on her own , but it didn’t hold her back, KT was musical from an early age, learning to play piano, flute and guitar as a teenager.

KT moved to the USA, hungry for experiences and independence, she gained a scholarship to Kent School in Connecticut, New England. Whilst out there KT spent time on a hippy commune and formed her first band, The Happy Campers, she also spent a lot of time on busking in Burlington, Vermont.

After her time in the U.S she enrolled in a  music course at Royal Holloway College in London, before finally moving back to St Andrews, she joined a group of folk musicians from around the East Neuk  called The Fence Collective, which included the very talented Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote, in time she decided folk music was not for her and went on her way.

She began writing projects with Swedish songwriter/producer Martin Terefe and London-based Orcadian Jimmy Hogarth and London’s Tommy D. She started work on her debut album with her new band and legendary U2/New Order/Happy Monday’s producer Steve Osborne at the helm. ‘Eye to the Telescope’ saw her whittle down a massive catalogue of over 100 songs to just 12.

Luck played a part in her big break when due to another artist pulling out she appeared on  'Later With Jools Holland’ performing ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’ it went on to become one of the most played songs of the summer. Her double platinum selling debut album 'Eye to the Telescope’ was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. 

KT has now had 6 top 20 albums, the latest, Wax was in 2018, it reached number 6 in Scotland and 15 in the UK charts, her new album, Nut, is due out in September.

I remember her being interviewed on The Proclaimers, This is the Story documentary in 2017, where she chose their excellent song Scotland’s Story, commenting “Scotland’s Story just really struck me as quite a different song for them, that they were really saying something incredibly poignant and quite brave. It’s quite a critical song of the way that Scotland’s history is logged.

“Here we are in 2017 and it couldn’t be a more poignant, relevant song for what’s going on in the world and I just thought for right now, it’s an amazing song to sing.”

KT  has suffered hearing problems since 20n July 2021, she announced that she was having to pull out of her summer tour dates and permanently avoid lengthy runs of closely consecutive performances, citing issues with her right ear which were "exactly how the breakdown of my left ear began"  In July 2021, she announced that she was having to pull out of her summer tour dates and permanently avoid lengthy runs of closely consecutive performances, citing issues with her right ear which were "exactly how the breakdown of my left ear began"   Hearing problems have always been a worry to her; her brother  was profoundly deaf since

KT is touring just now, dates are all over the world, North America next month, then back home, she will n=be in Ireland, England and back in Scotland for the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.
