Part of a big triple-work piece for Crimson Days, here's my part! Eris and Toland wowing the hive, because a dance isn't really a dance unless it's a little bit dangerous.

LOOK BELOW.
The Ascendant Realms are dark and deep, And in them many foul things creep, Including we who dare not sleep, For fear of what dreams bring us.
Done for an acolyte of the vengeful undead, who has also financed a couple of other incoming works.

thinking about the first crota fireteam and how crucial eris was to recruitment. the mission in itself was to avenge guardians lost to crota but there was a specific tint of focus toward avenging wei ning, something eris didn’t have much of a personal stake in aside from being a friend of her’s and eriana’s. and yet, she went on to recruit people who were obviously incredibly important to her; sai who seems to trust her with complete faith, vell who saved her life once and is willing to do it again, omar who only agreed to go because eris supports the cause, toland who she’d probably looked up to even in his exile, who has genuine faith in the mission despite everything.
and then, they die one by one and eris is entirely helpless to stop it. maybe it would be less bittersweet if they’d accomplished anything close to their original goal, if eris could come out of the hellmouth knowing her team’s deaths weren’t in vain. but they don’t, and they are, and everything was all in vain from the very beginning.
it’s interesting how eris emulates them, keeps them alive through herself. like sai, she trusts herself to carry out this insane hive ascension ritual with little concern for the personal risk. like vell, she adventures out into a hostile frozen wasteland and fights to protect others no matter the cost, even those she barely knows. like omar, she keeps talismans and charms and gives them to others who need reassurance, a reminder she’s in their corner. like toland, she’s the hive expert who still seeks to teach and mentor despite her more self-imposed solitude.
and of course, like eriana, her passionate love and craving for vengeance are constantly at war with one another. her sorrow, he guilt, her anguish over what she’s lost, competing with her desire to help, to mend, to protect what little she has left, to save a world she still somehow has faith in. the difference between them is that eris’ love will always win. she will not be led blindly into any pit again, not by her thirst for revenge, not by her despair, not by the darkness, not by the deep.

If 6 dudes were on the moon and one of them let 4 die and permanently traumatized the last one in an effort to turn themselves into a little paracausal golfball in order to free themselves of the shackles of an alien machine god and the powers it bestowed on them would that be fucked up or what

Idk what to even say to this. Just Eric doing whatever she wants and 2/3 of her boyfriends being like 'yeah I'll play' and Leon looking SO nervous in the middle lol. He's not used to magic shit. Toland is on board and Savant just smiles through it.
My October comm from @brahkest they did the lines. I did all the coloring and rendering and mememing lol. Idk what's going on with Eric's outfit. I told Brahk to make her a hot witch outfit and they SURE DID even if parts make zero sense.
Savant's shirt is the same material as Eric's cloak and I think that's cute af okay

The six of us
Okay, I teased this already, here ya go: my take on the First Crota Fireteam! Enjoy, lovelies. Tagging in reblog.
Summary: Six Guardians, one mission, an unfortunate outcome. A grief that never gets smaller, but a life that grows around it.
Word Count: ~ 1.3k
Rating / TWs: Mature - Alcohol; Discussions of death, grief, mental health
Disclaimer: All characters belong to Bungie.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luna's nights were always eerily quiet and chilly, but this one especially so.
A fireteam of six Guardians had gathered in one of Luna's caverns for the night: Omar Agah, a somewhat lanky hunter; Vell Tarlowe, a burly, balding Titan with paper-white skin; Eris Morn and Sai Mota, two more hunters; Eriana-3, an Exo Warlock; and another Warlock, human, that everyone just referred to as Toland, the Shattered.
The cavern was a dimly-lit place slightly underground, keeping them out of the inclement weather. A fire had been lit, and they passed around the sparse food they'd been able to bring and a bottle of liquor.
"It's so quiet." Omar seldom whispered, but the stillness seemed to unnerve him.
"I've been here a few times before", Eris assuaged. "Nights on Luna tend to be like that. Bear it no mind."
"Eris is right", Vell agreed. "We're here on a mission. Better focus on that."
Their mission was simple: find and kill Crota, Son of Oryx, the Hope-Eater, the Prince of Annihilation.
"Are you lot sure this is going to work out?" Omar asked hesitantly, streaking back a few stray brown curls.
"Hey, easy there", Vell said. "It'll be fine."
"Right", Sai chimed in. The young woman in the red and white fighting leathers never whispered. She either spoke confidently or not at all.
"Then tomorrow is the day." Omar shifted nervously, his fingers tracing the rim of the cup.
"Stick to the plan and we'll be okay", Vell assured again. "Between my shield, some blades, Eriana's fire and Toland's nova shenanigans..."
"... they're not shenanigans", Toland interjected, indignant.
"Okay, okay, no offense. My point is, we have a plan, and we have each other to rely on. Let's give these Hive what they deserve."
"A toast!" Sai raised her cup, shooting Toland’s ghost, Guren, a sharp gaze. "Toland, stop recording this. Fine, fine. Whatever. A toast, then! To the best damned fireteam I've ever worked with. We may not be the smartest. And we may not be the bravest. But we are the dumbest! To victory!"
"To victory!" The others echoed, clinking their cups and emptying them in one swig before silently moving closer to the small fire in the middle of the cavern.
"Hey, Sai?" Omar asked, breaking the now comfortable silence that had settled between them.
"Yeah?"
"What is that pendant you're wearing... If I may ask?"
"Have you ever touched a book?" Toland scoffed.
"This symbol is called Ankh. It means life, in one of the ancient tongues", Sai explained, ignoring Toland's comment, "Now, if someone would stop being an insufferable know-it-all..."
Toland rolled his eyes. "Fine. FINE. I’ll stop before I die prematurely by your blade."
“Toland!”
"See?" Vell gave them a reassuring smile, changing the topic. "We're accompanied by life itself!”
“And the resident expert on all things Hive”, Eris chuckled.
“Finally coming to value my presence, Morn?" Toland retorted, flipping a few streaks of long, sleek, jet-black hair out of his face.
“Time will tell", Eris quipped, refilling her cup.
"Sooner rather than later, yes."
"Toland."
"What?! We're entering the Hellmouth in a few hours."
"You sure are incredibly fun to be around." Sai shook her head.
"I'm a realist, Mota."
"I'm also coming to understand why they took your bond and threw you out of the City."
"Oh, dear Sai, now you're hurting my feelings." Toland faked a pout.
"Are you done arguing?" a voice from behind them asked.
“Eriana, what's the matter?" Concern shone through Vell's voice. The Exo Warlock had hardly spoken the entire night.
"Bad memories", Eriana replied gruffly.
"I know. I'm sorry", Vell replied, awkwardly wringing his hands. "But we now have a chance to make it right, don't we?"
"I suppose."
"We will." Vell put an arm on her shoulder. "We have to."
“You’re right, you’re right.” Eriana straightened her colorful robes. “Let's give these Hive what they deserve. Toland, if this goes awry, know I’ll blame it on you.”
“Of course. I'm sure you also thought of a scapegoat should I not make it out alive. I name our dearest Eris here. She's excellent at coming up with a good story, after all. Best of friends with Ikora, too, which should make matters easier."
"You're insufferable."
"I get that a lot."
"We should rest", Vell suggested, tacitly changing the topic yet again. "Light knows we're going to need it. Eris, why don't you tell us a story?"
Toland scoffed at the suggestion, but despite himself, he didn't interrupt Eris once as she weaved her tale.
A long long time ago on a faraway planet...
... and so into the city they went, and they basked in its newfound glory, and lived in its splendor.
"Will that be us?" Sai asked quietly, eyes lost somewhere on the horizon. "Where will we go once this is over?"
Eris held her gaze. "Wherever we're needed, I suppose."
"Not back to the City", Toland quipped. "At least I won’t, that much is for sure."
The rest burst into laughter, breaking the somber mood. But that laughter soon enough turned into screams as the fireplace morphed into darkness. Then Eris found herself alone outside the Hellmouth.
...I am the line. Evil will go no farther than this...
... do you trust me?...
...I will not avenge you, but join you amongst the fires snuffed out upon this moon...
... I'll remember the Light. Will it remember me?...
The darkness abruptly vanished, leaving her back at the HELM. Hearing her own voice, seeing her old shape, had only become stranger as the years went on, now that she had learned to live with this new one.
Eris propped herself up, reaching for Sai's necklace.
"The Light may or may not remember you", she said quietly. "But I can assure you I do."
----------------------------------------
Maybe I should take up carving again. A few wooden chips and some cord still remained among her belongings; it wasn't much, but it would do. She reached for the knife that she kept on her at all times.
Hours later, the last bead was done. She took the smooth leather cord and started threading the beads onto it, one by one.
Steps approached, and moments later, Ikora appeared next to her.
"Ikora." She tied the cord closed and looked up. "Anything you need?"
"No. I just wanted to see how you're doing." Ikora gave her a demure smile. "What are you... oh."
"Sai taught me how to make these." Eris returned the smile. "I like to think a part of her lives on in them."
"We never talked much about... your fireteam", Ikora said cautiously. "About what happened. Maybe I should have..."
"You're not to blame." Eris toyed with the string of beads around her arm, gesturing Ikora to sit down next to her. "I couldn't bear it at first, and when the wound started to heal, I considered it best to not reopen it."
"I see."
"I have since... gained perspective", Eris continued. "The grief never leaves you - you would know. It doesn't even get smaller, necessarily. But eventually, your life will grow around it."
"That's consoling, I suppose." Ikora moved a little closer.
"Ikora", Eris asked quietly, "Do you trust me?"
"You know I do", Ikora replied.
Eris gently opened her hand and placed the necklace into it.
"Good. Then have this." Despite everything, she found herself struggling with every word. "Consider it... a favor from someone who... loves you dearly. That way - whatever happens, I'll be with you, just like Sai is with me."

In His Image - Chapter 1 - Eternal_screaming_void - Destiny (Video Games) [Archive of Our Own]
“Are you prepared? Or will you be..boring?” The flickering orb of Toland’s form pushes through the moon’s fog towards the Exo Titan, hovering eye to theoretical eye. “I have something to show you, knowledge for the taking, if you can take it.” During his handful of years as a guardian; Darrix had spent more time with Toland than was probably good for him. They’d been warned he wasn’t to be trusted. They knew better. Yet Toland was the second most scholar when it came to the Hive, and he wasn’t as picky about the more complicated questions as the first.  Eris was keener to dance around those complications. Though, Toland wasn’t one to give Darrix the answers freely.  “Where are we going?” They ask, head tilted slightly.  Toland doesn’t answer, instead disappearing in a flash, as he almost always did. Darrix sighs, running a gloved hand over the top of their helmet. “Alright. Guess I’ve gotta find you again. As usual.” Dipstick, Darrix’s Ghost, is quickly at his side, scanning the area to be sure he was safe out in the open. “I’ve got a bead on his location, but it’s not one of his usual spots. It’s down in Sorrow’s Harbor, do you remember how to get there from here?” Darrix nods, giving the Ghost an affectionate pat. “Yep, I remember. Might make a pit stop and say hi to-“ they break off, static crackling in their throat.  “…Forgot she won’t be there. Never mind. Come on, let’s go.”
