there's something about eda going from despising school to running a school that hits deep. something about rebuilding instead of destroying. something about turning anger into positive change. something about recognizing that you have the power to be better than those who hurt you. you get what i'm saying

Currently thinking about how both Hunter and Philip were raised in religious cults, but the difference is... Hunter was never happy to be the Golden Guard, the part of this cult, he had no *actual* close person who he could rely on, and when he found friends outside the cult, he changed his mind, understanding how fucked up it is.
But Philip was actually happy while being in the cult because he had someone - and it was Caleb who was with him from the start and he wanted this happiness to last forever, so he never changed his mind and his hatred towards the opponents(witches) of the cult was only growing, because they(Evelyn) "took" his only loved person away, while Hunter found the loved people in the "opponents" of the cult.
(I hope you understand what i am saying)

So... you're telling me Hunter went throught his whole "Im not Caleb, Im my own person!" arc only to exactly copy Caleb's story? Excuse me? What kind of development it is?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Getting Flapjack form a wild witch form another world 2. Whatever the heck this paralell is 3. Holding hands with gf 4. Dies 5. His gf with clear design similarities of Evelyn
6. ENDS UP WITH THE SAME EXACTLY PROFESSION 😭😭😭
Like, I understand everything, paralells are cool, but why did they have to ruin the whole point of his arc like that???

Can we just take a minute for the look on Amity's face right after she kisses Luz for the first time?
And Luz is rambling like "Why did I just say crikey??! How did I even think that??"
Tumblr media
And Amity is just grinning at her like
"We have to save the world so I can marry this fuckin' dork."

A detail I love about this finale episode is King's choice of a game to play with the Collector aka...
The Owl House
In universe, it makes perfect for King, a child, to choose his house & family aka his life that he loves as the subject of a game. Why wouldn't that be the first thing to come to his mind ? (outside of Fetch of course)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But from a viewer perspective ? That is such a double entendre. Because WE play The Owl House. We watch Luz, Eda & King adventures on the Boiling Isles, with an island worth of characters and "players". The Owl House IS a game that requires an island worth of players (and even more with the Human realm) and it IS a game that requires the Collector's help in order to keep going. Because if the Day of Unity goes on, it's game over. We'll lose that game too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I think this double-entendre is reinforced by the fact that we have all our children character concurr that The Owl House is a great game. With memories that will last you for a lifetime, that you play everyday. Because The Owl House is their *story*, it's their life with Luz these past few months. (and we have Hunter barely managing a squeak because he hasn't had great run of it these past few months. although he got all these friends and Darius out of it at least) It's a game but also not, and wouldn't it be amazing if this was foreshadowing for what the Collector ends up actually "playing" ? Life ?
Tumblr media
On top of that, I'm a big fan of the theory (based on King & The Collector parallels) that they could genuinely become friends. So I hope this is foreshadowing for the Collector to genuinely play "The Owl House" : to be added to Eda's ragtag of misfits, raised and taught right from wrong like she did to King, to find a family as a child that felt unwanted by the world like Luz did. To go on all these silly adventures, to play the game of Life.
Tumblr media
Look at him. This child might be too powerful for his own good, but he doesn't have the same malicious intent that Belos does. It seems far more likely to me that he's simply disconnected from other people. Amoral instead of immoral. Too strong to realize what he's doing, and how what he does affect other people. Desperate for company as well. A child with godly powers.
Tumblr media
They're terrifying, and we get why King's dad might have emprisonned them. "You're on timeout, get on top of the fridge !" Except it clearly didn't WORK, this child is as excited as ever. And why wouldn't they ? Stick an ADHD child in a dark room with no one to talk to and no way to play, see if that helps them settle down. I don't think it will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe he'll simply be the final Antagonist and hurt too many people for that to happen. But I think that would be nice, and come full circle with that game of The Owl House.
To live and grow and play and love and stick together in this game of The Owl House.

Do you think the puppets are still conscious, but just can't move? Hooty sort of seemed to imply that. Maybe strong emotions might be able to break them out of it, like how Hunter fought back Belos after seeing him hurt Flapjack? I could see that possibly happening if the Collector makes someone like Darius or any of the parents try to fight the kids.
And then there's Raine, who's basically double-posessed. I'd think they could fight back against Belos normally, especially if he tried to hurt Eda or any of the kids, but that's kinda hard when they're also under the Collector's spell at the same time.

Spoilers for The Owl House season 3 episode 1 ahead:
I'm so mad. I'm so, incredibly mad.
There is only one episode out right now, and I'm already pissed. You can see where they were going to build up to the Belos thing, you can see so much of what they wanted to do in the beginning but had to cut because Disney wants Dana Terrace to suffer and the fans suffer. I'm so pissed because this show is so good, but Disney snuffed the light and had to make them cut the beautiful story into shreds because they wouldn't allow them a full season. Because they hate representation that much, that they would risk money on a series so popular, so loved by fans that I have no doubt they could wring the series for all the money in the world and we wouldn't care (much) because it's such a good series. No, they can't do that, something they've been known to do and have done multiple times. They can't see the monopoly they could possibly make through this series. Why? Because two girls are in a relationship. Because there is LGBT representation. I'm so mad that we couldn't see the months pass by, see Willow and Hunter maybe flirt, see the scene where Luz comes out to her mom with Amity, I want to see Gus gush more about human stuff. I wanted flapjack and Hunter to hang out more, gosh I wanted flapjacks death to hurt more. I cried, I was so upset but everything happened so fast, I immediately stopped thinking of Flapjack. I don't know if that's the needed effect, showing how much more happens in this show if it starts with the death of a beloved character, but I wished things were slower. I wish we were able to see the full breakdown and lead up to Hunters hair with willow. I wish we were able to see a scene with them talking about things, I wish I was able to see more of Luz's school and those kids that apparently admired her.
I want to make this clear that I'm not blaming Dana or any of the people creating this show. They are doing such a good job, and I give them my love and support that they managed to have such Major representation in a Disney show. I'm blaming Disney for not giving them enough time for everything. And I hope that inspite of that, their ideas live In fanfiction and fan comics. I want to see hunter struggle with the fact that Belos is inside him. I want to see lumity hanging out. I want to see Camila being the best mom she is. I want to see Vee being the best friend to everyone, specifically Hunter because they both have nothing in the demon world. I love this show, I want more and more of these characters. This is the first episode. I'm both excited and mortified for the 2 more "44-minute specials" that Disney carelessly threw at us. Gosh, that was only 46 minutes? Only about an hour 30 min for the whole season? Screw you, Disney. Stop making marvel movies and shows.

THE OWL HOUSE final was sooo good and all.... but we still have so many unanswered questions!
What exactly happened to Caleb
Who did the Bat queen used to belong to
What did Luz's dad pass from
What was the OG Hexsqaud relationship like
Why do Alador and Darius have beef
What was Evelyn like
How did Caleb get to the demon relam in the first place
How did the portal door get lost in the ground before Philip can use it
I'm sure there's probably more, but that's all of the ones I can think of now. @danaterrace Really wanted to do more with this show, but this show is amazing none the less.

Amity should've been the one who helped willow
This was the perfect moment for them to finally address amity's bullying and it's affects on willow, she is the main reason why willow is like this. It could've fixed the "understanding willow" problem by having amity see willow's struggles that were caused by her. It could've fixed the "labyrinth runners" problem by having them actually talk
Their relationship is so underdeveloped, it never got properly resolved and unfortunately it will remain that way.

this is the boiling isles’ form of homophobia. terra wants to be a homophobe so badly but homophobia doesn’t exist in the isles so she had to settle for the closest thing they have: making fun of band kids

H@ntlow thoughts
I guess it's just my thoughts, but to be honest, even though I'm not a hater Huntlow, I'm terribly stressed by some moments in this peering. Throughout the episode about sports, Willow treats Hunter just awful. Completely ignores his opinion, his desires and his personal space. Even when he was essentially a stranger to her, she, not even knowing that he was a Golden Guardian, just grabbed him with vines and dragged him hard to her, breaking the asphalt at the same time. Hunter wasn't her friend then, or even an acquaintance. She wanted him on the team – now he's on her team, it's just a fact, whether he likes it or not.
Later, when Hunter wanted to leave (surprisingly), she just took and dragged his roots through the ground without question. Without even thinking, how little does he have claustrophobia? And even if not, what kind of adequate person would even think of such a thing? It is rather ironic that she literally parallels Belos, Hunter's main abuser, with this.
Also, when Hunter did not even agree to her invitation to the team, she already shakes his hand rather rudely, actively hinting that he actually has no choice. He's already on the team because Willow wanted him to.
Of course, these moments are not so disgusting, but I'm also a little annoyed by how roughly Willow hugs Hunter, not interested in whether he likes it or not. She just does what she wants with him and makes him do what she wants. To be honest, in "any sport in a storm" Willow specifically enraged me and further annoyed me for quite a long time because of this.
Later in "looking and dreaming" there is a small moment when Hunter was just confused, almost panicked, because of the actions of the Collector. Then he looks at the calm Willow and calms down too. As if he himself does not know how to behave, and therefore repeats after Willow, as if he has no emotions of his own. He's doing something again, not because he wants it and thinks it's necessary, but because Willow is doing it.
In fact, in this case, it's not even surprising that they like each other: for Hunter, this is a comfortable type of relationship, because he is used to doing everything he is told and not having his own opinion yet because of Belos, and for Willow, a person who listens to her in everything, runs after her, and allows saving yourself is a good way to raise your low self-esteem.
On the one hand, because of this, they are ideally suited to each other, but on the other hand, their relationship is codependent and to expose it as something cute and as an ideal relationship, in my opinion, is at least wrong.
Also, to be honest, I really like that Lumiti has developed and stopped blushing in front of each other for a long time, this shows that now their relationship has become completely comfortable and they are used to each other, but, alas, even 4 years have not helped Huntlow. He is still twitching because of Willow's sudden movements and is embarrassed in front of her. Which, in my opinion, is a bit strange
I will say again that I don't have any hatred for Huntlow, it's just my thoughts, because I really don't understand why people like it so much.

I mentioned before that "Piz-Za BAGELS!" is one of my favorite lines in the entire show, but now I really wanna talk about why.
Ok so Odalia, right? Fuck, do we hate Odalia.
Throughout the entire show we see her manipulating, backstabbing, and doing whatever she thinks will bring her the most status, with no regard for anyone she hurts, least of all her family.
She abused her kids and her husband, she partially kept him in line by threatening to abuse the kids even more, if he didn't do as he was told.
She is like the quintessential "wicked step mother" but I appreciate that she's not the step mother. She's their original mom and she's the literal worst.
And this show is so good about karmically satisfying outcomes for villains. Like sure she could've perished a hundred different ways, but that wouldn't've been nearly as satisfying a punishment.
Being "Mama 'Dalia" is literally a fate worse than death for her.
She wasted no time allying herself with The Collector. Clearly expecting to be able to manipulate them into making her queen of the isles or something.
But they didn't want an empire. They just wanted a family.
You know, the thing Odalia doesn't give a single shit about. She literally doesn't even know where her kids are at this point, they could be dead from getting blown out of the air by the guards she sent on them, for all she knows
But that's irrelevant to her. She only cared about her family insofar as she thought they could be useful to her.
And this scene was so powerful both because we get to see Odalia stuck in her own personal hell, and we get to see that The Collector isn't really looking for power or control.
They're just a kid trying to have fun. And it's such a beautiful role reversal to see her have to stifle her power hungry bullshit and play house with this God-Child.
Instead of bending her children to her will, she's the one that's getting dragged along in an ill-fitting role, according to someone else's desires.
It's just an amazing scene and the fact that the most poignant line is literally "pizza bagels" is truly a testament to the creators' incredible storytelling talent.

THE OWL HOUSE...THEORY...?
Ok! Wanna dump something here real fast before it leaves my mind forever.
Tumblr media
-Piece by the amazing @moringmark . A faithful representation of Phillip Wittebane's afterlife. Rest in Pain, b**ch!-
Something that actually bugged me about The Owl House was Phillip's name change to Belos.
Given he was a human and had enough knowledge to warp around as the Emperor of the Boiling Isles, his name had to mean something like Hunter's.
DISCLAIMER: I DON'T CLAIM TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS, THIS IS JUST WHAT SOME RESEARCH LED ME TO. IT MAY BE WRONG OR STANDING ON FALSE INFORMATION. IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS SUBJECT FIRST HAND, FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME AND GET ME OUT OF MY IGNORANCE.
Doing some research for a project I'm making. I stumbled upon the main deities of slavic folklore.
Perun, whose equivalents would be Zeus, Odin and/or Thor.
And his chaotic sibling: Veles, whose equivalent is Loki and Pan.
Even though I say "equivalents" is just so you get an idea of their abilities and roles. Perun was the main god of the pantheon with power over lightning, symbol of order.
Where I wanna go with this is what Veles was.
Veles was also known as Welos, he was not just the god of nature and shepherds, but also god of the barrier between this world and the underworld, guide of souls through the threshold and, get this, GOD OF MAGIC, ALCHEMY AND WITCHCRAFT!
Philip not only turned himself into a "Prophet" and Emperor, but, to his own DAMN SATISFACTION, HE BECAME A GOD FOR THE WITCHES. Everytime a Witch called his name, they were calling him their God.
After The Collector gave him the weapons to rule over the Isles, he felt himself as superior to them, even more so than he already did. So much so he gave himself the name of one of the few MALE GODS OF WITCHCRAFT to prove his point across. THAT'S THE EXTEND OF THIS GUY'S NARCISSISM!
Still don't believe me?!
Veles or Welos was often portrayed in two forms:
A horned inverted triangle and a Horned Man (thus, the horned mask)
Some of the animals that represented this deity were the snake, the dragon and the owl. Belos had a very slithery personality and a slow way of dealing with those who opposed him (like a snake killing it's prey) eventually became a Dragon (when he took the Titan's heart hostage) and the Golden Guard's mask looks like an Owl.
Also, remember that guardian of the threshold thing I said previously, it fits with his whole "protect the world from evil" BS he believed.
Given he couldn't do magic, he did alchemy. If you're familiar with the work of an artificer or FMA, you should get the idea. Alchemy was a pseudo science, antecesor of modern chemistry, that studied the world, it's elements and magic to harness it to make things as the famous Philosopher's Stone and Lead's transformation into Gold. One of the matters of study of alchemy was resurrection. Thus, the Grimmwalkers.
Following the previous point, Red was often asociated with the Stone and it's abilities, it also meant "the end of a great work". What leads me to believe his and Hunter's "Magic" were product of alchemy and, maybe, the creation of a Philosopher's stone.
Given the hints and little winks TOH makes to FMA, I believe I ain't jumping any sharks.
Though his Puritanism also influenced how things would run with the Isles under his control. He wanted to feel like a God, but without the Witches knowing it (because it will blow his cover in a sec) so, he gave himself a name connected to everything he hated, but that could elevate him without suspition: Belos, The God of Magic, Alchemy and Witchcraft.
So yeah...what Elijah from Not so average Fangirl said in "Hollow Mind" wasn't that far off.
Belos, for Witch and Hunter = Witch Hunter.
@danaterrace You have my love and respect.
Thanks for everything! Can't wait to see what you make next.
FOR MORE UPDATES ON THIS, FOLLOW THE REPLIES.
