What books did you read? I'm curious lol
Ofc only if you wanna answer, no pressure!
I’ve got sorta a weird collection lol - you don’t have to read all my reviews but there’s only 8 so I decided to throw a bit of reflection in there for the hell of it lol
1. Radio silence by Alice oseman - I liked this sooo much better than I thought I would especially given that I found heartstopper too gooey for me
2. The Boy and Girl Who Broke the World by Amy Reed - I read this in like 8th grade and lovedd it. I reread it hoping it would feel the same and it was still good but I was more critical of it and it was a little weird
3. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson - I read this for a class but wow I would recommend this sooo so much. The stories he tells about the US justice and prison system will genuinely rewire your mind and if you weren’t passionate about it before, you will be after this. Wow.
4. True Biz by Sara Nović - this was recommended to me by my mother bc I was taking an ASL class. It was well written and a good book but I didn’t love it. I seem to be the only person to think this but I felt the book went too slow with too many missing parts that were hastily and unclearly thrown together at the end so it was an unsatisfying read. It is good if you and a good intro to Deaf culture while getting a look into people’s experiences
5. Nimona by ND Stevenson - so cutie and awesome. I went into it with no idea what the plot would be and I adored it. Also I love the art style
6. The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Kline - recommended to me by @coolkidwasteland (ty much) it was so cutie and feel good and pretty to read
7. Persuasion by Jane Austen - lovely Jane Austen novel what more is there to say lol
8. PJO: The Chalice of the Gods - ofc I had to read this. Obviously reading percy Jackson again as an adult feels was different but it was comforting to read a new book from my favroite series and it was exactly what I needed to read this year lol
Ty for the asssskk im sure this is longer than you expected lolll what books did you read this year ig you read a lot what were your favorites ??

For the reading ask game
7 and 10!
hi mundane!! <3 thanks for the ask :))
7. tell me about the last thing you actually finished reading?
so if we count actual books, I’ll include the carry on series as a whole! I really enjoyed the books even though ‘wayward son’ and ‘any way the wind blows’ were very different from ‘carry on’. I enjoyed ‘carry on’ more now than I did when I first read it though. I like the way it dealt with simon’s mental health struggles and his relationship with baz even tho I wanted to bonk him upside the head a lot while he was making stupid decisions haha
10. tell me about your top (any number you want) favorite books?
oooh okay so I’m going to list the top ones that come to mind. I just know that I’m going to end up leaving off a book I LOVE and then ill feel like a moron but here’s the first that come to mind <3
the diviners by libba bray (series)
- one of my all time favorite series. I love the characters, the world (its set in New York City in the 1920s but with magical elements). Also has sooo much more representation than I anticipated going in! One of the few books I remember having legit asexual rep that I have read. It is lovely and I wish more people read it. (I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much from a book as I do when I reread the last book in this series. Don’t let that deter you!! It has a happy ending) has one of my favorite book boyfriends here
all for the game by nora sakavic (series)
- if you follow me or see me ever, this should not be a surprise whatsoever haha
the hunger games by suzanne collins (series)
- I read this series 12-13 years ago and it is one I reread still (most recent reread was dec 2023)
three dark crowns by kendare blake (series)
- love the sibling dynamics and the magic system is so interesting??? One of my favorite book boyfriends of all time is in this series
a far wilder magic by Allison saft
- very great book, has one of my other favorite book boyfriends. It’s kinda inspired by fullmetal alchemist in terms of the world aspects and the relationship gives me major mustang/hawkeye vibes
the raven cycle by Maggie stiefvater
- very popular series and I love the characters so much. they are just so special to me
under the whispering door by tj Kline
- the most recent read that I am putting here. I haven’t decided if this is necessarily a “favorite” but I read this book because Spiritfarer is one of my all time favorite video games and this has a similar concept. I couldn’t put it down and it made me cry like a baby but I really enjoyed reading it
percy jackson - rick riordan (series)
- I think the size of the fandom speaks for itself here lmao but its one of my favorite series I read last year
solitaire and radio silence by alice oseman
- separate books but I’m listing them together because same author. I LOVED these because of the friend dynamics (also aled is demi like me, which is a big thing that got me to read RS and I’m so glad I did)
six of crows - leigh bardugo (series)
- popular series, love the characters so much haha
***
I probably missed some great books but if you’re looking for recs!! these are some good ones to start with!!

for your question about books with gay m/m romance where romance isn't the main part aspect, I'd say the house in the cerulean sea by tj kline, I read it right after it came out and it's very teeth rottingly sweet but it's really a nice little story abt a social worker that's sent out to a house full of paranormal kids. another one is the monster of elendhaven by jennifer giesbrecht, it's a fantasy/horror that's a bit hard to explain, a little bit in the vein of stuff like hannibal/iwtv--the blurb on goodreads is a good briefing. if we were villains by ml rio is another one but the romance ismore subtle (I don't remember if it's explicit actually). if those "dark academia aesthetic" people annoy you though this one will be unbearable. all 3 were big on book youtube (ik lol ... it's just one of the only ways to find stuff like this in my experience but promise none of these are those "chaotic pansexy gremlins save the day with bad quips!" ones) but I did actually enjoy all of them esp the monster of elendhaven, the writing is well done in each, and bc they got big in online book communities there are people who've made fan content of them even if they don't have a whole fandom of their own. If youre fine with YA, more than this by patrick ness is another--i personally disliked this one and it doesn't have a romance just a gay protagonist and him coming to terms with being gay is a subplot but not even close to the main plot. and finally if you're up for trashy airport thrillers I haven't actually read this one but James Patterson has a series called instinct (first one is murder games I believe) where it's just a straight forward crime thriller but the main detective is a married gay man. haven't read it but heard it's not bad. hope this helps, sorry I this is so long, this is just also a thing I look for!
ill take a look at these! thank you!

hiiiii jess i was hoping you would reblog this. 1, 2, 15, 19 for the book asks pls 💗💗💗💗
1. book you’ve reread the most times? the king's men. by nora sakavic. obviously. it's always going to be the king's men by nora sakavic because i reread it like 10 times when i was 17 and i have reread it every year since then. normal behavior.
2. top 5 books of all time? this is embarrassing, but it's mostly YA i think. and romance. i love so many books for so many different reasons. sophie this is hard :(
the king's men - nora sakavic (cheating answer)
it sounded better in my head - nina kenwood (teen anxiety but not annoying)
this may end badly - samantha markum (loooove the relationship dynamics)
edenbrooke - julianne donaldson (got me into historical romance)
people we meet on vacation - emily henry (yeah.)
fight club - chuck palahniuk (hehe)
15. recommend and review a book. sophie what do you read. you read like. real books. i'm listening to the count of monte cristo right now. im 18 hours deep and i have completely lost the plot. but i did cry at one point.
i just binge read a YA mystery/thriller (with teen relatonship drama) type series. trouble by stephanie tromly. it's problematic at parts and the plot is a LOT but it gives veronica mars vibes and i had soooo much fun.
19. most disliked popular books?
wolfsong - tj klune (anything by this author)
ready player one - ernest kline (i hated it before it was cool)
two wrongs make a right - chloe liese (i want to light it on fire)
in the weeds - bk borison (just not for me <3)
send me book asks

📷 What’s set as your phone’s lockscreen? It’s the art from the cover of my favourite book, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Kline 😁

🦉 Are you a morning person or a night owl? Night owl but I feel most rested when I wake up at dawn
💎 What’s your most prized possession?
This is a really hard one - I love my fidget rings a lot but I don’t know if I would say they’re my most prized possession. If collections count, then my rock collection. If not, then perhaps this one rock that I have that helped back up Pangaea
Thank you so much for the alas!!!

Christopher Briney
Christopher Briney: Rise From Baseball Field to Silver Screen
Christopher Briney is an American actor and filmmaker. He is most recognized for his roles as James Linton in the film Dalíland and Conrad Fisher in the SeriesThe Summer I Turned Pretty.
Introduction: Christopher Briney
Christopher Briney was born on 24th march, 1998 in Hartford, Connecticut, US. Christopher Briney’s father name is Michael Briney, is a businessman, while his mother name is Kelly Briney, is a housewife who cares for her family. Christopher enjoys good time with his family.
His marital status is single. His girlfriend’s name is Isabel Machado and she is an actress. He hates spiders so much. He asks his girlfriend to kill them for him because they truly scare him out. He feels really fortunate that she is around to save him because they are terrifying.
Early Life and Career
In 2015, He joined Waterbury Arts Magnet School and took part in a five-week theatrical course at Wesleyan University. In order to attend Pace University, he came to New York City in 2016.
He spent almost 13 years of his childhood playing baseball. He only ever stopped when practice and rehearsals were incompatible and he realized he was growing worse at both baseball and acting at the same time so he had to choose a path. He really considered studying films before deciding to study acting in college. He still enjoys movies and cinematography and hopes to direct projects in the future. In fact, he made his directorial debut in 2019 with the short film Paix.In 2020, he received his BFA(Bachelor of Fine Arts) in acting.
He worked at the LES Trader Joe’s while in college. He worked there until the pandemic got really terrible, and it was honestly a fairly good job. He remembers it with great love. he said that TJ’s taki’s are among the most prestigious dishes in the world.
He also has a variety of abilities, including street skating, video editing and cinematography. Before filming The Summer I Turned Pretty’s first season,he started skating in college and hurt his ankle while practicing for a flip.
Rise to Fame
Cyrano de Bergerac is his all-time favorite play. In high school, he was introduced to a tape of Kevin Kline’s Cyrano by an acting teacher and he still believes that it is a major factor that he fell in love with acting.
He began his career in show business by appearing in theater productions. He is also appeared in a few commercials and firm promotional videos. Briney has also appeared in many more shows, including Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Radium Girls, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Library Play, Pig Farm and many more. His work may be seen in short films such as “Want This” and “Under The Covers“.

Trigger warning: mentions of SA and Murder
I am one that usually hates rants and hating on others but this really needs to be said. I read the “House on the Cerulean Sea” and I am really disappointed with TJ Kline and his writing. He has stated that he took inspiration for the book by the “sixties scoop” and residential schools that took place in Canada. These events were so horrific. They took indigenous children away from there culture, language, and way of life to make the learn the “right” way of the white European. These children were put though r@pe, SA, beating, and straight up getting k1lled for being themselves. They were forced to shave their heads and never participate in any part of their culture again (their language, religion). So many people still have trauma and PSTD about what happened to this day.
Here are links to information about these topics:
Like TJ Kanye stated the he understands what is happening and just thought about all of these he was going to “sit down and write a fantasy about it”. Like you understood the tragedy and horrible situation that happened and here and thought to write a story about a feel good family book that the children really just need to be treated with love and care and stay in the school/orphanage. That just seems really messed up from what your taking inspiration from. Like you state that you care about indigenous people just make thousands of dollars from a book and we never see if you even donate to a charity or organization that will help indigenous individuals with issues that they are facing. If you are thinking about reading the book i wouldn’t, if you already started to read it I would just finish it, but please educate yourself and others about this topic before reading or even after reading.
I am also not stating that it is bad that you read the book and are just learning about this now (that’s what happened to me) because most don’t know about this issue, but if you see this now you do. So this would mean, if you have the resources, to just educate yourself on the topic
Here are some other books that I haven’t read but I have heard they are good to read to educate people what happened:
“An indigenous peoples’ history of the United States”by Roxannes Dunbar-Ortiz
“The heartbeat of the wounded knee” by David Treuer
