Saw @flowercrown-bard doing this and wanted to play along as the year's wrapping up. Thought it could be a nice summary to how 2022 came along.
rules: post the top 5 works you're most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular), your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year, your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year, your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year, and your number 1 favorite line you've written this year!
Top 5 Works
You Find A Way | dreamling - a 5+1 with a twist, The Oldest Game is in progress between an immortal and his infernal creature on if and how long he stays in bed when he clearly needs to go to work.
Damn, You're Reckless | grimmichi - a very, very long 5+1 featuring 11 revolving perspectives in a fist fight for the lifetime. Ichigo's hours away from graduating high school when he defends a memorial from desecration, and a certain hollow isn't far away to watch the smackdown from beginning to end.
Amateur | corintheus - worship is a two-syllable word for what The Corinthian has in store. First, he will break Dream. Second, he'll rebuild him. They say art is a reflection of the troubled artist who made it.
His Violet Delight | grimmichi - grimmjow thinks he isn't made for good things until a certain snot-nosed, annoying shit named Ichigo decides otherwise.
Stumbling Once We Found It | tomarry - winter wonderland vibes as Tom and Harry enjoy a nice date during New Year's. And Tom is a weak, weak man if he can say Harry will be the death of him.
4 Current WIPs
His Favorite Thing is Laughter, If It's The First Thing Out of You - a 5+1 dreamling new year's eve oneshot about the things Hob will learn about Dream as they play the pining game in the background.
The Longest Night - a medieval suspense horror + dreamling; what if The Corinthian went rogue during the 1300s and Dream, stripped of his tools and like a monster from your nightmare, seeks refuge and assistance from an immortal mercenary who thinks he's the second coming of Jesus (aka Hob).
I don't have any other WIPs I'm currently working on, so just two :p
Top 3 Biggest Writing Improvements
Experimenting with perspective and the form of telling a story. Embracing the poetry and lyricism in my writing and the challenge of how to make it work. Doing the avant-garde things I've been wanting to do; didn't do it all, but got through some items on the bucket list.
Top 2 Resolutions
Experiment with every work: it doesn't matter in which way or how, but incorporate something I wouldn't normally do to keep myself from growing complacent. Keep up with the 2 days of writing, 1 day of resting rinse-and-repeat cycle while working on a project - gives me motive and there's built-in rest for when I'm tired of keeping myself so I can go write.
Top 1 Line(s) of the Year
Our Father, our Dream Lord, Morpheus upon a dream. Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Name is a Kingdom. Let our splendor know how little it compares to Thine Eyes, allow the art of any world to know the Artist in our sight. Thy Work is the universe Thou breathes out of sand. Are we not the many gems Thou polished into diamonds? To wear upon Thou and know that Thou have seen us for what we are. We humble at Thy Gift, give us our every color as we may warn that we are Thine, not the masterpiece of another. And forgive us for our trespass, as we scorch our blasphemy. And lead us not from salvation, but deliver us in Dreaming. Amen.
Tagging, if you wish to participate -> @duplicitywrites, @voxofthevoid, @fellshish, @thechaoscryptid, @backwardshirt, and anyone else who wants to play along ^u^

Vanishing Act [Yandere Mr. Compress x Reader]
Title: Vanishing Act [Yandere Mr. Compress x Reader]
Synopsis: The circus life was a dying one, until he entered the ring.
Prompt: Yandere Mr. Compress + “I will guide thy hand.”
Word Count: 2323
notes: yandere
Tumblr media
You grew up in this world. A world of dimmed arenas and sweeping spotlights, popcorn-littered seats and death-defying tricks designed to astound and amaze.
Not that the arenas are ever truly filled. Not that the tricks are always viewed as impressive, considering there may be someone in the audience who can do it better or stranger. Quirks made it so much harder to astound and amaze; perhaps that’s why your act gets a little bit more applause than others.
It’s easier to ooh-and-ahh at a quirkless wonder doing death-defying leaps in the air, the threat of falling with no quirk to help you making it all the more exciting for those watching in the stands.
You’ve heard stories about the world before quirks, rose-tinted tales of traveling circuses that played to sold out crowds wherever they went. When people who didn’t fit inside a box could fit in within the candy-striped tent domes, and there were so many people that seats were never empty and the popcorn was never stale.
That world is gone, so there’s no point in mourning it.
You make do with the world you live in now. Your family makes do. Your friends make do.
And every night you paint your face and stretch your legs and do your best, like your parents before you, and their parents before them, and their parents before them. Even if it grinds on you, after a while. Even if the magic fades away, night after night, and what used to thrill you, make your stomach flip, now only makes you wonder when you’ll be heading off to the next city.
What else can you do? It’s the only life you’ve ever known, after all. What other choice is there for someone like you?
Maybe that’s why the introduction of something new, something unpredictable, something with the promise of genuine novelty and adventure was so damn appealing.
Maybe that’s why when a magician no one had ever heard of before strode into the tent city and headed right for the ringmaster’s tent, asking for a job, showcasing his tricks, you were among those who peaked outside their own tent flaps to catch a glimpse of the mysterious stranger. Curiosity, and you weren’t a cat, so there was no danger to fret over.
He was smiling when he left the tent, and that was all the confirmation that anyone needed: he would be joining your family, at least for a while. At least on a trial-basis, as was custom.
His face was obscured by a mask, and a baclava under that; but what did that matter? It wasn’t like he would be the only person in the circus who donned a persona that they didn’t quite take off even when the crowds were gone and the spotlights cold.
If he minded the curious eyes on him, he made no show of it. Instead, he strode on the dusty ground in between tents and made a dramatic, spinning bow to everyone watching.
It made you smile.
He made you smile.
Is it any wonder that you gravitated towards him?
Is it any wonder that, the next night, when showed up at your tent and politely (In such a gentleman like fashion that it took you aback, truly) asked if you would be his assistant, you jumped at the chance?
It was something new. He was something new.
And as you sat in the little box and pretended to have your legs sawed off, dramatic music swelling in the background, his face above you--dramatically serious, hamming it up for the audience just as enraptured by his novelty--you felt your stomach flip for the first time in years. A long-gone thrill thrummed through your skin throughout the evening, and at the end, when he raised your hand high so that you could take a bow together, you felt your cheeks heating up until they were oh-so-warm.
A glance at his face made your heart thump. And… well.
It was a school crush, nothing more.
At least, that’s all it was… at first.
Little gestures, here and there. His hand squeezing your own while you took your bows. Your eyes lingering on his a little too long during a trick. A rose, a brooch, a pretty bow left in front of your tent before you retired for the evening.
One night, after the crowds were gone and the adrenaline of the night fading, he showed up at your tent and politely asked you to step outside to talk with him. He never went inside your tent alone with you--it wouldn’t be proper, he said, and your parents would most definitely agree.
His overly considerate manners were at odds with most of the men in the troupe, and when he pulled a bouquet from behind his back it was--though the simplest of gestures--so endearing that you thought your heart would burst. And then he reached his hand inside the bouquet and pulled a box out of nowhere, a simple blue box that you gingerly opened, revealing a glittering diamond bracelet inside.
The sight of it glittering in the dark evening light made you snap it shut immediately. It was too much, all at once. The extravagance of it and what that extravagance might mean for the two of you.
“Atsuhiro…” You murmured. Only you called him his; to everyone else, he went by his stage name. “This is--this is too much. How did you even afford this?”
He whisked the box back into his hands, opening it in a flash and retrieving the bracelet you’d been so quick to hide. You didn’t have time to protest before the diamond gift was around your wrist, feeling almost fluid in its delicacy.
And oh, is it a beautiful thing. More beautiful--and valuable--than anything you’d ever seen, much less owned, before. The coldness of the jewels almost felt sinful against your skin.
After the gift, things began to escalate.
Your first kiss was in the orchard near town. He’d asked for permission to take you on a late night stroll, and the thought of being alone--truly alone, no prying eyes to be found--with him made your heart twist. What if you couldn’t think of enough things to say? What if he saw you for who you were, some high-reaching failure of a circus performer who was stuck in a dying life?
There was no denying that he was more experienced than you, more alive, more capable of seizing the moment. You didn’t doubt that he wouldn’t stay with the circus for long. He felt like someone who would flit in and out of places, trying something new to see where it took him, before abandoning it for the next thing.
Perhaps he would abandon you, too.
The weightless fear of abandonment kept you from truly enjoying the walk. His attempts at conversation were met with half-murmurs and nonsensical answers. You wanted to leave. You wanted to stay. You wanted something that you couldn’t vocalize.
Finally, he stopped, and tilted your downcast chin up in a way that made you feel seen.
“There’s something wrong.”
You shook your head and tried to smile, but the thoughts came bubbling to the surface before you could stop them. Forceful and begging to be heard.
“One day, you’re going to leave me--”
That’s when he kissed you. It was quick and sudden and you never knew before what novels meant when they said sparks few, but now you did.
And the sparks turned into smoldering embers, kept alive every time you would act as his assistant--now a nightly occurrence, with your high-wire act taking second stage; every time he would walk with you after the show; every time he would show up at your tent with a gift or a note or simply himself.
Was it really only a month since he’d came into your life? The lingering threat of him leaving the circus remained, but you pushed it down. It would only hurt to think about it, and what use was thinking about it when he was still here for now?
And finally, tonight. Tonight, tonight, tonight.
This evening, the big top is filled to the brim, thanks to the ringmaster’s endless marketing for the magician’s latest--and greatest, he said--trick. The buzz in the air is contagious and everyone from the biggest acts to the filler performers who roam around the Big Top during down-time are giddy and excited.
You’re no exception, and your mind is riding the adrenaline wave so high that you think nothing of it when Atsuhiro pulls you aside in the wings before you were set to go on stage together for his act.
“Listen,” he says, his voice a hushed whisper. “I’m leaving after tonight.”
The words don’t register at first. You smile. You half-laugh, a sound that hurts your ears as soon as it leaves your mouth.
”Don’t joke,” you say. “We’re about to go on.” You start to tug him away, ready to enjoy the pumped up energy from the crowd, but his grip keeps you rooted to the spot. He’s much stronger than you realized.
“I wouldn’t joke about such a thing, my dear. I have somewhere I need to be, soon. Somewhere special… for something much bigger than all this.”
You feel the hot tears at the corner of your eye and you suddenly feel like a stupid, stupid child. Of course he’s leaving. Of course this was just some useless pit stop on the road of his life. And he’ll put you in the rear view mirror and leave you here, a dot on the horizon.
His thumb reaches for your cheek and wipes at the tears trailing down them. The gesture hurts even before you hear what he has to say next.
“Come with me,” he says.
“What?”
Both hands return to grip your own, giving them a squeeze that sends your stomach fluttering.
“Get away from all this foolishness,” he gestures at the hustle and bustle of backstage with his head, and you suddenly see the circus through his own eyes. How silly it must all seem. How pointless. How dead, before he came and brightened it up with a bit of novelty for the local townspeople who had seen it all before.
“I…”
You think about your dreams of something new. Something more.
You think about your family, your friends, the only life you’d ever known.
You think about the sobering fact that you’ve only known this man for 4 weeks, and how little you truly know about him.
You think about the way he makes you feel, seen and giddy and loved.
You think about your parents being thrown out of the circus, with nowhere to go and no way to make a living.
And you decide.
“I can’t.” His eyes widen slightly at your admission, and you continue, looking at anywhere but his face. “I… can’t just leave my family like this. I don’t know what they’d do without me.” You stare at the ground. “You know my parents can’t perform much anymore. I’m the only reason they’re allowed to stay--I earn their keep.”
When you look back at him, you know you’re crying. “So I can’t go. I’m sorry.” Even if it’s not what I want, even if it’s nothing much at all--you leave that unsaid, and hope he knows it anyway.
You expect him to protest. You expect him to beg you to come. But he seems to realize the finality of your decision, the pointlessness of arguing with you, and he nods. Somehow it hurts, all the same.
“Very well. May I ask one favor of you?”
“Yes,” you say, and it all feels like something out of a movie. A last grand farewell between the two of you. Summer love, and all that. It vanishes quickly.
“Will you still perform with me tonight? I need your help for my new trick.” He squeezes your hands again, but instead of feeling like a thrill, it makes you want to cry harder. “Just one last trick for me, my dear.”
“Yes,” you repeat. The resignation in his eyes hurts more than your decision to reject him. He didn’t even fight for you, and your vision from weeks ago of disappearing in the back of his rear-view mirror comes to mind. It’s true that you rejected his offer, but that doesn’t lessen the sting of his easy agreement.
With a nod, he leads you on stage--for your last performance.
The energy from the audience feels hollow. Instead of the pulsing, thrilling energy you simply feel it blow through you like an unwelcome cold breeze. The tricks go off without a hitch, as they always do, and it’s not until the last trick--the grand trick, the one promised in all the flyers, something big and bold and never done before--that you feel any spark of emotion.
This was it. Your last trick together. After this he would lead you to your bow and you would part ways and in time--years, maybe--the hurt of all this would fade away.
For now all you can do is hold back your tears as he sets you up in the center of a platform, spotlight on you. Nothing up his sleeve, nowhere to hide devices. What was this trick, anyway? You hadn’t even had time to practice it.
“Ladies and gentlemen…” he begins, showman to the end. “This trick is my grandest yet. Watch carefully, and be amazed.”
Your heart thumps in your chest.
“For my last trick…”
A drum roll from backstage begins, a tinny quick thing, building the anticipation among the rapt audience.
“I will make my lovely assistant disappear!”
There’s a flash. A loud noise. A whoosh of air.
And just like that, you’re gone.
Vanished. Compressed into thin air; compressed into the smallest of globes, blue and shiny. Tucked into his pocket on the stage of the circus with the audience and your parents and the ringleader none the wiser.
And who knows where you’ll be, how far away all this will seem, when you finally reappear.

For klarosummer bingo, this completes my first row! The prompt was “swimsuit model.”
Fortune Favors
“Bekah, these are amazing,” Caroline gushes. She 100% means it, but she’s laying it on a little thick. She’s seen pictures, mock-ups, and was fitted with prototypes. Now, with the line entirely constructed, all the details finished, Caroline’s impressed.
Rebekah, however, seems frazzled, her usual rock-solid confidence nowhere to be found.
Totally understandable. It’s a big day for her.
Rebekah’s working on launching a swimwear line, is funding a big chunk of it herself. Caroline would have agreed to help out even if she didn’t owe Rebekah a favor. Caroline continues flipping through the garments until she finds the tag with her name on it.
She pulls the first hanger off the rack to look at the suit more closely. It’s a white one-piece with a deep-v neck, a belt slim black belt, and ruffled straps. Rebekah fidgets, “We’re styling this one with red lips and heels, a big hat. We’re going to try to shoot this one on the rocks.”
“Sounds good to me.” The shoot seems far more professional from the ones they’d managed to pull together for school projects. They’d done the best they could with the facilities available to students, but the house they’re using today is by far the nicest one Caroline’s ever been inside of. It backs onto a private beach which seems unnecessary considering the freaking gorgeous pool in the backyard. “Who’s the photographer?”
Rebekah grins, clearly pleased with herself. “I managed to convince my brother to donate his services.”
Well. Now Caroline’s nervous. “Your brother Klaus?” she asks, kind of hoping she’s wrong. Klaus Mikaelson is a big deal. He’s shot major covers, A-list celebrities, million-dollar international campaigns.
He’s used to models who know what they’re doing, and Caroline’s definitely an amateur.
“Yes, Klaus. I’ve forbidden Kol from coming within a five-mile radius. Can’t have him harassing the models. And Elijah’s been a gem, but his expertise lies more in negotiating with suppliers and nagging me to mind the expenses.”
Caroline takes a deep breath, tells herself it’ll be fine.
She studies her next look, a sleek black bikini and a sheer black robe covered in floral details. “Love the appliqués. Did you bead this yourself?”
“Till my fingers were bloody. But I think it’ll photograph well.”
Caroline hums in agreement. “Is this one on the beach too?”
“No, by the pool. Chaise lounge, martini glass, one of the male models in the background. Think rich divorcee seducing the help.”
Caroline hopes it’s a real martini. She might need it.
She flips to the next hanger and has to bite back a distressed groan. Rebekah’s concept leans retro, so the yellow polka dot bikini in her hand is skimpier than Caroline had anticipated.
“Probably should have skipped breakfast,” she mutters.
Rebekah scoffs, “None of that. You’ll look smashing in it. I have impeccable taste.”
Caroline’s distracted by male laughter, a new person slipping into the tent. “So you’ve insisted your whole life. I distinctly recall you sneaking into the family albums and burning most of the photographic evidence of the unfortunate style choices you made in years 7 through 9.”
Ordinarily, Caroline would exploit the opportunity to get a little dirt on Rebekah, but she’s annoyingly tongue-tied and intimidated. She’s pasted on a polite smile, more out of habit than anything.
She may have google stalked Rebekah once upon a time, way back when they’d been rivals at school. And if during Caroline’s research, she’d read several articles and poured over dozens of pictures of Rebekah’s very talented and successful fashion photographer brother, that was her business.
Know thy enemy and all that, she couldn’t have known that rivalry would shift to friendly competition, then to actual friendship.
She’d noted he was attractive, of course, as anyone with eyes and sense would have. Most people don’t manage to live up to photos taken by professionals.
Klaus Mikaelson does, and it’s not helping her insecurities.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Nik.”
He walks further in, offering Caroline his hand. “You must be Caroline. It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Klaus Mikaelson.
She swallows, is relieved when her voice sounds normal. “You too. I’m excited for today. I love your work.”
He nods, appearing pleased. “It’s been ages since I’ve done this kind of shoot, but you must know how Rebekah can be. Wouldn’t stop haranguing me until I agreed.”
Rebekah glares, piqued, and Caroline presses her lips together to hold in a laugh that threatens, knowing it would not be appreciated. “I can’t blame her for doing what needed to be done to ensure the desired outcome. It’s only good business.”
Rebekah nods firmly, “Exactly. Thank you, Caroline. At least someone here appreciates me.” She picks up the last hanger that had been in Caroline’s section and hands it over. “This one’s first since the set-up is the simplest. Bonnie should arrive while you’re shooting. We’ll do her first look while you go back into beauty, then rotate throughout the day. Put this on. I’ll send hair in first.”
She knocks into Klaus’ shoulder when she leaves, hard enough to have him swaying. “That’s why you’re not allowed in my house!” he calls to her retreating form. “Just had the floor redone,” he tells Caroline. “Can’t have her stomping all over them if she has a tantrum.”
“She’s stressed. You might want to be nicer.” Caroline regrets the words immediately, glances away under the pretense of studying the bikini in her hand. He’s donating his time and apparently his house. Their family squabbles really aren’t her business.
But Klaus isn’t offended, “Perhaps you have a point, though Rebekah’s never more productive than she is when she’s angry. Failure’s not an option when she’s fueled by spite.”
Hmm. Caroline has similar ideals. Maybe that’s why she and Rebekah came to understand each other.
She realizes she’s been twisting the bikini top’s strap, hurriedly straightens it out. “I feel like I should warn you, my modeling experience is limited to pitching in with other student’s shoots at school. So, I’m far from a professional.”
He shrugs. “You have nothing to be worried about.”
That startles a laugh from her. “You only say that because you don’t know me. I am a world-class worrier.”
He takes the suit away from her, setting it aside. His knees bend, until their eyes are level. “Caroline. You’re beautiful. Rebekah’s created lovely things. I’m very good at my job. I have every confidence the final product will be spectacular, and I’ll be able to enjoy reminding Rebekah that she owes me a favor down the line.”
Caroline blinks at him in surprise, some of her nerves having drifted away when faced with his absolute and unwavering confidence. “That’s… actually very reassuring.”
“Was it? I confess that’s not a strength of mine.”
She’s not sure if he’s joking or not, but she picks up her first outfit again. It’s another bikini, a tropical print on a pink background with a halter top and a high waisted bottom. “I should change,” she says. “Something tells me Rebekah won’t appreciate it if we fall behind schedule.”
Klaus nods, rocking back a step. “Of course. I just wanted to introduce myself. Please feel free to let me know if you need or want anything at all.”
She thanks him again, and he lets himself out of the tent.
Caroline takes one more deep breath and then ducks behind the screen in the corner and strips out of her sundress.
Once she’s dressed in Rebekah’s design, she begins to feel like everything might just go okay. The suit fits like a dream, propping up her breasts and perfectly hugging the curve of her hips. By the time hair and makeup work their magic, leaving her curls full and her lips slicked bubblegum pink, she feels freaking fantastic.
When she steps out onto the set, Klaus’ eyes widen when he spots her, lingering in a way that’s slightly unprofessional but not at all unwelcome.
He walks over, paying not the slightest bit of attention to anyone on the crew, even when an assistant tries to wave him over. Klaus offers his arm to help steady her as she steps into the matching pink pumps, leans in close, and tells her she looks incredible, his lips brushing her ear and sending a pleasant shiver down her spine.
She might be in trouble.
Will Rebekah kill Caroline if she flirts with Klaus? Probably.
Caroline thinks she’s willing to risk it.

Love And Lies | 2
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Seokjin x F!Reader
Summary: You are a simple maid. When your lady and dearest friend need help escaping an arranged marriage with King Seokjin so they might be together, you do the only thing you can - take her place.
A/N: Obviously their manner of speaking is somewhat modernized for easier reading. I don’t think you guys want a bunch of thys, thous, and such in your fanfics lmao.
Tumblr media
You and Eleanor had your heads poking out from the carriage window, ungracefully observing the landscape after a guard knocked to let you know your destination was near.
The castle that loomed before you was not just a castle. No, this was a palace. The sheer magnitude of presence this massive pile of stone gave off was intimidating. You could quite easily fit twenty of The Dukedom of Never’s keep across the land this spanned across, and Never’s was vast.
The land that surrounded it was magnificent on its own. Behind the castle was one of the grand seas, with a harbor large enough to contain the Royal Navy - a massive force that was rumored to be over a hundred ships and growing. In another direction was a large forest, one that according to Jungkook was teeming with wildlife and supposedly an evil witch. The fields surrounding the village seemed lush and plentiful and the people they passed appeared healthy and content. You were impressed by the obvious care that was put into the lands by the King.
Jungkook was riding alongside the carriage on his massive black charger, staring at the palace with as much awe as you.
“Do you think it takes him an entire hour to find a garderobe? Or did he just give up after a while and uses a chamber pot every time?” He asks thoughtfully, grinning down at you from atop his horse.
“Why is that your first thought?” You ask with a roll of your eyes.
“It’s a serious concern, sis! Say you just ate some pickled eel that doesn’t agree with your stomach. And the only room they have for such things is in the tallest tower on the other side of the palace…”
You snort, shaking your head at him. “I’m certain in a castle this vast there will be more than one garderobe, Sir Jungkook. I dare say there are perhaps several for every floor and wing. And no doubt the king has one all to himself near his chambers.”
He cocks his head thoughtfully, nodding after a few seconds. “True.”
A trio of guards stops your carriage right at the entrance to the long stone bridge leading to the palace grounds. Jungkook presents them with their scrolls of passage and the guard nods after looking over the seals.
“All clear, Sir. I’ll send word to His Majesty that you’ve arrived.”
Jungkook nods briskly at the guard and turns to the both of you with a wink. It was time to begin your charade.
The two of you bring your heads back inside the carriage in preparation for a more refined entrance once the carriage starts up again, the wheels clicking loudly across the stone leading to the inner bailey. It wouldn’t do to have the servant’s first impression of you to be gawking in wonder like the poor maid you actually were.
And that’s who you knew you would have the most difficulty trying to fool. The nobility had their head too far up their own arse most of the time and you weren’t as worried about trying to pass off your ruse on them. But the servants saw and knew all. Even with you dripping in jewels and rich fabrics you were worried one of them could tell at a glance you were no better than them.
You slide your hand across your gown nervously, picking at the costly fabric. You and Eleanor had spent most of your journey here adjusting each other’s gowns to fit. She was now clad in the finest one that you owned, a simple woolen dress in a blue that nearly matched her eyes, with a brown apron and cape. You were amused by how lovely she looked in such a simple garment as she sat across from you bouncing with excitement like a carefree dairymaid.
You were in a gown that no doubt cost more than you’d ever see in a lifetime. Dark crimson brocade embroidered with gold silk billowed around you like a stiff cloud. The sleeves were nothing more than a flowing golden lace, which also trimmed the scandalously low décolletage. Eleanor had even gone so far as to pile her best jewels on you and you were now glittering in gold and rubies that matched the gown. Broaches, rings, bracelets, even tiny pins placed strategically throughout the massive piles of curls on top of your head. The centerpiece of it all seemed to be the gold-chained necklace from which hung a ruby nearly the size of an egg that settled on the very top of your overly-exposed chest.
She’d even dabbed some of her cosmetics on your face. Your lips and cheeks were pinkened with rose paste and a touch of kohl was rimmed on your eyes. You’d absolutely refused to put the horrid white paste on your face that was becoming popular in some circles of noblewomen.
So, you certainly looked the part of a pampered daughter of a Duke. Your insides were still a mess of jumbled nerves and fear.
Eleanor’s hand lands on your shaking knee, her eyes soft with compassion.
“Are you that nervous?”
“Are you not?”
She sighs quietly, squeezing your knee before bringing her hand back to her lap.
“I am, of course. But I have you and Jungkook watching out for us, so I’m not frightened as I should be, perhaps. I’m more worried about you. So many things could happen and I can’t do anything if I’m supposed to be a servant. What if some nobleman drags you into a dark alcove, or someone tries to poison your meal to eliminate a rival in the bid for being Queen, or...heavens, what if the King falls in love with you?”
You guffaw at that, shaking your head. “There is little chance of that happening, My Lady.”
She huffs, waving her hand dramatically. “I’m not ‘My Lady’, remember. I’m just Ellie. You can’t mess that up. And anyway, you haven’t seen yourself from my seat. You are absolutely stunning. You look like you’re a Queen already and that man is going to take one look at you and beg you to be his.”
“There’s going to be other ladies here, you said?” You ask quickly, changing the subject with your cheeks blazing with embarrassment. As if a King would find you worth a look. No doubt His Majesty had a veritable army of mistresses at his disposal.
She nods distractedly, head turned to people-watch as they entered the busy courtyard. “Even though I was mad at him, I listened when Papa told me what to expect at court. The King’s council declared it was time for him to find a wife. They summoned five ladies in total - three Duke’s daughters, an Earl’s Daughter, and supposedly a Princess from some far off exotic land. Naturally, the Princess is the one the council is trying to push at his Majesty the most, but so far he’s shown no preference for anyone in particular. Papa was only able to suggest putting me in the running because he and His Majesty’s father were good friends. The only reason he didn’t come along with us is because he’s busy with...something about irrigation. I lost interest after that.”
You hum as you digest what she’s telling you. What it sounds like to you is that the King will have to try to stretch his no doubt incredibly busy schedule to accommodate entertaining five different women, most of whom were probably spoiled and not used to having to share anyone’s affections. It shouldn’t be too hard to simply fade into the background and let the other four battle over the King’s attention. With any luck, he’d eventually forget you were even there and you’d be able to escape without issue once Jungkook received the deed to his keep.
The carriage rattles to a stop and your breath hitches nervously. You gulp, the contents in your stomach from breaking your fast that morn lurching dangerously. Eleanor clasps your hand and squeezes.
“Remember that we have Jungkook on our side. He won’t let anything happen to us.”
You nod shakily and exhale deeply. A hand turns the carriage door handle and you stiffen, trying to recall all the lessons in deportment that you’d been forced to attend with Eleanor over the years. Be mindful of your posture, don’t breathe loudly, don’t fidget, keep your head high, and your eyes low. You could do this.
Eleanor leaves first with the help of Jungkook, as he grasps her hand to help her down the carriage steps. Once she is safely lowered and waiting patiently off to the side, he reaches in for you.
“You look magnificent and I have no doubt that you will do well. I’ll be right at your side,” he whispers as he gently holds your fingers to help you gracefully exit the carriage.
You nod and send him a grateful smile before letting your face fall into a façade of polite interest as you look upon the gathered party for the first time.
The appearance of a few councilmembers and a handful of servants to assist with luggage and escort you through the palace was expected. The tall figure standing in the middle, resplendent in crimson and gold attire that mirrored your own was not.
The King himself had come down to greet your arrival.
You eyed him in pleasant surprise as Jungkook escorted you towards him. You knew that he was a fairly young King, but this man was at the very peak of health and good looks. His hair was a dark ebony, although the sun shining on him seemed to bring out flecks of brown. It was surprisingly shorn short, but it seemed to flatter him. And his face...you weren’t the poetic sort, but he seemed to have a face that would belong to an angel. Thick lips and big soulful brown eyes all set in a face of flawless skin. He looked to be nearly as tall as Jungkook, with broad shoulders and a tapered waist atop incredibly long legs.
He was dressed in what you guessed was his courtwear - a crimson tunic over dyed leather breeches, and tall leather boots. Gold accents glittered from his shoulders and waist, with gold embroidery coloring the edges of his tunic and emblazoned over his chest in the form a wolf. His crown was surprisingly simple, as you’d always imagined some huge thing the size of a melon with a mismatched decoration of every jewel they could grab. The one atop his head was a simple golden band inlaid with rubies and diamonds. Perhaps he saved the other one for more important affairs.
His warm brown eyes appeared to widen as you came forth, his mouth dropping open slightly as he seemed to stare at your face.
Was he that horrified by what he saw?
You release Jungkook’s hand after one last comforting squeeze and drop low into a formal curtsy, keeping your eyes on the ground.
“Thank you for inviting me, your Majesty. I am Lady Eleanor Rose D’Aily, the daughter of the Duke Of Nevers,” you say softly, realizing as the words leave your mouth that you’ve just sealed whatever becomes of your fate.
A hand quickly reaches down and grasps yours to help you up, and you glance up to meet the King’s gaze. He still appears a little surprised - about what you didn’t know - but his lips turn in a welcoming smile. You’re surprised to notice the little lines outside his lips and eyes, like he smiles quite often. He also hasn’t released your hand yet, and you note that it’s soft and a little damp, like yours get when you’re nervous. But whoever heard of a nervous King?
“It’s a pleasure to have you, My Lady. We are so glad you’ve made the journey safely. We have made arrangements to have you placed in the apartments in the west wing, nearest my own. When your parents used to frequent court here, that’s where they always stayed. We thought it would be nice to continue the tradition.”
“I thank you, Your Majesty,” you respond quietly, distracted by the way the sun hit his eyes. At first glance they appeared brown, but the way that the sun reflected on them made them appear almost amber. How beautiful.
“Yes, I...err,” he began, and you noticed the way his eyes roamed all over your face, quickly down to your lace-trimmed décolletage, and back up with a blossom of color on his cheeks. “I have some meetings to attend now, but I have some time before supper so we might become better acquainted. Perhaps in the library? My Chancellor, Namjoon, will come for you when I’m free. In the meantime, please make yourself comfortable and ask for anything you might need. My Kingdom is at your disposal,” he says earnestly, with a charming grin.
You are overwhelmed by just how genuinely kind and anxious to please he seems to be. You’d thought for certain the most you would receive was a single servant and perhaps a note to tell you when you were required to show yourself. Instead, he stood before you with his hand still gripping yours, seeming to be genuinely apologetic that he couldn’t speak with you sooner.
And he smelled wonderful, like cedar and clove…
The man next to him cleared his throat meaningfully, causing King Seokjin to jump slightly. He released your hand and bowed shallowly.
“Until later, My Lady.”
You curtsied in return, watching as he turned and strode up the stone steps, whispering furiously with the man next to him.
Behind you Jungkook and Eleanor share a look, nervously observing as you follow the King’s retreat with your eyes and release a heartfelt sigh that both of them were intimately familiar with.
“Oh dear,” Eleanor gasps quietly.

Five Favorite Passages
I was tagged for this by @kunstpause @elveny and @gunbun among others and now that work has officially calmed tf down I have time to breathe and actually do it.
Pretty much everyone has already been tagged for this since I’m late with Starbucks so any writerly peeps who want to do this and haven’t yet, consider yourself tagged!
Here are some of the things I was proudest of writing in Hell Year (in no particular order). Expect spoilers up to 5.3.
1. FFXIV Write 2020: Ultracrepidarian
I shouldn’t need to explain this one.
“I don’t know why you lot insist on being so tedious,” Emet announced, rolling his eyes. “There’s a far better way to do this.”
Haurchefant raised a silver brow at him, narrowing his eyes. “I did not realize you counted yourself a fisherman, Ascian.”
“I don’t.”
Emet-Selch pulled a slender firearm  seemingly out of thin air, aimed the sleek, gilded barrel at the water, and Gisele flinched at the loud crack it made when he nonchalantly pulled the trigger.
An enormous fish rose up from the water’s depths, to bobble upon the surface, trickling bright red blood from the smoking hole in its rainbow scales.
“You shot it?” Thancred balked, his eyes wide and incredulous.
Emet shrugged, his lips curled into a smug smirk, before he pursed them and blew the smoke from the barrel with a satisfied little puff.
2. FFXIV Write 2020: Clinch
The absolute heart of Gisele’s universe is love, and specifically the unshakeable bond she has with her Ishgardians. The climax of Dragonsong means everything to me for that reason and I wanted to let that shine through in this. When Haurchefant was struck down at the Vault, it was Estinien that literally carried him to the Congregation’s infirmary and he would not have made it had Estinien not done it so quickly, even with the intervention of Gisele’s magic. Haurchefant has kept that with him from the moment Aymeric told him. How fitting it was that his love helped save Estinien in turn.
And Gisele would never forget it for the rest of her days: the sight of Ser Estinien Wyrmblood, Azure Dragoon of Ishgard, lain stricken in the arms of his Lord Commander Ser Aymeric de Borel, the light of the setting sun glinting upon both their armor by turns. And her heart soared at the sight of it, warmth spreading within her chest as she beheld the tenderness with which Aymeric held him.
Gods, but they meant everything to her, these brave, beautiful sons of Ishgard.
Before Aymeric bore Estinien away, to the capable hands of the Hospitaliers, Haurchefant brought his own hand to his lips, pressing them against the cool mythrite chain of gauntleted fingers, before reaching out to brush those selfsame fingers against Estinien’s mouth.
“And now is my debt paid,” Haurchefant whispered softly, with a light caress of full, silent lips; he drew them across to briefly graze against the exposed cheek beneath Estinien’s helm. “May the Fury guard thy rest, ser knight, as She did mine.”
“Thank you, Haurchefant,” Aymeric said simply, gazing up at him, his eyes still glistening with those unshed tears.
And love. So much love.
“A knight lives to serve,” Haurchefant replied, with a tender smile, returning it with all he was.
3. FFXIV Write 2020: Crux
The moment that Gisele saved Ysayle over Azys Lla--with an assist from Minfilia, though neither of them knew it at the time--is one of my favorite things I’ve ever written at all. The way I write fictional magic has always been very much informed by my real world background as a trained occultist and lineaged Alexandrian witch and Gisele’s Super Duper Dreadwyrm Trance is probably the most blatant example of it yet. This whole sequence just screams British Traditional Wicca if you know what you’re looking at. And at the root of all of it is, as usual, Gisele’s deep and abiding love and stubborn unwillingness to lose anything else.
And Shiva was falling, falling…
She was dying.
“Ysayle!” Gisele screamed her name, this time, and not the Primal’s; only the woman within such flesh eldritch and beautiful, the woman so beloved. Gisele could not lose her, could not lose yet another so sworn and chosen by Hydaelyn.
Not again.
“Though You have forsaken me, Mother, still do I beseech Thee!” Gisele cried out, hot tears streaming down her cheeks. “Lend me your power, damn you!”
The still, small voice within whispered, whispered…
Is this not Azys Lla, torn of ancient Meracydia, where once the Dread Wyrm was first Summoned in anguish by his grieving and vengeful kin?
Know you not what you must do, o beloved?
For the sake of a precious dream, and your cherished dreamer…
Sacred geometry traced through the air with fluid, precise fingers, sparking aether alight with eldritch fire upon the pages.
And upon her silver tongue did each forgotten syllable echo long and trembling with draconic power:
Eko, eko, azarak! Eko, eko Bahamut!
Gisele’s shining hand slammed against the glowing page of the grimoire within her grasp.
And her blood burned like primordial fire in her veins, her eyes aflame. Within her ears sounded the dread, relentless percussion of wings beating like a gargantuan drum, the steady, unyielding rhythm lulling her consciousness. But it was not drowned, neither subsumed by the might of those wings; her senses were not overwhelmed but awakened, in sight beyond sight, blossoming open as a flower.
For in that moment, too, did Gisele become a vessel.
Drawing down from the acrid skies, pulling up from the land malms and malms below, He was everywhere and nowhere, the singular purity of His ancient fury burning within and without, burning in every ilm, but her will was absolute and unyielding; she danced the line well, and always had. But in harmonious tandem was there a shining Light, bright and blinding, shading His power in eternal blue.
As above, so below.
And Gisele leapt from the airship.
Upon wings of glimmering, luminescent cerulean, she glided, drifting, drifting upon the power of the Dreadwyrm Trance, but she did not drown in the tide; she mastered it, riding it to the side of her stricken comrade. Gisele reached out to her stretching out her arms, and took Ysayle into her winged embrace, enfolding them both in shimmering light; the Garlean gunfire crumbled helplessly to smoldering ash against the shield of her wings.
Tumbling, tumbling through the putrid skies choked with the acrid fog of gunsmoke, they fell together.
But Gisele clung tightly to Ysayle, to never let go. Come what may, Gisele would never let go.
Never.
4. A Warmer Hearth
According to date stamps I did technically finish and post A Warmer Hearth to AO3 in 2020 which floors me, it feels like so much longer ago! I suppose that was just 2020 lol. This was the first Real FFXIV fic I wrote, and I’m still intensely proud of it for a lot of reasons, and I’m extremely hard pressed to pick one favorite passage from it, but I’m going to highlight the moment when Gisele came clean to Haurchefant about her true past & identity because it underscores how what began as a goofy crack au concept ( “What if Gisele really was the Warrior of Light?”) turned into this incredibly layered and complex and emotional thing. On a meta level, leaving Thedas behind for Eorzea was and continues to be incredibly healing both for Gisele in story and on a meta, fandom level for me. And Gisele describing the pain of what she left behind meant a lot.
Gisele sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. How, then, could she weave for him the tale of ancestral woe that led to a sickly and starving girl-child born to an unwed mother in a slum, for whom no act of heroism would ever erase centuries of degradations? How, then, to name the oppression she knew in Thedas to an Elezen nobleman who would never be called a knife-ear, a knight commander who would neither be mistaken for a manservant, nor whipped for naught but his own pleasure and by his own consent?
Nonetheless, she tried.
“Imagine a moment that Ishgard should lose its long war against the Dravanians, and the victorious heretics cast down the Holy See, enslaving the survivors and sacrificing them upon blood soaked altars for foul magics to fuel the wealth of an empire. Imagine a Hyur prophet came leading a rebellion, and your people were freed after her martyrdom to make your lives anew, to build a new homeland with what little of your culture and lifeblood remained after such brutal subjugation. Imagine, then, that the Hyur church which rose in her name branded you idolaters and savages for keeping the faith of Halone—the faith of your ancestors that was near destroyed—and worshipping the Fury rather than their prophet’s god, and that for this transgression all you rebuilt was put to the torch. Imagine that what little remained was claimed by yet another Hyur empire, with the High Houses cast down, your children put to the sword.
“Broken at last by this final injustice, imagine that what few Ishgardians survived ventured defeated to Hyuran cities to live in mean servitude little better than the slavery their ancestors knew, housed in the rudest part of those cities, named slurs for their pointed ears, their lithe bodies viewed with lust and envy by turns, suffering rape and degradation at the cruel hands of Hyuran lords. And imagine that those Ishgardians who chose not this life, who clung to the desperate illusion of a freedom they could never truly know again, roamed the wilderness as nomads, fearful of the Hyur, piecing together in desperate defiance what little of Ishgard remained after such atrocities, and the horrors of colonization and enslavement.”
Tears streamed from Gisele’s eyes. “This is the lot of my people,” she said. “The elvhen, whom you might call Elezen. Only it was not dragons who subjugated my ancestors and enslaved them, but those humans—like to the Hyur—who worshiped them as idols and committed atrocities in their name,” she finished, her voice broken and trembling as she did.
Haurchefant’s face fell at her words, a shadow cast upon eyes blue as a summer sky. “This is what you left behind, in your Thedas?”
“Yes.”
“Did no one stand for your people? What of the conscience of nations? Were there no humans to rise up, to cry out against this injustice, as their holy Andraste once did?” Haurchefant demanded in incredulity.
“No.”
“And yet... you gave your life to save them?”
“Yes. For all it wronged me, I still loved my country. I knew great cruelty, of a surety. As one example, I can not share the Fereldan love of hounds—not when I saw her lords set them upon elvhen children for sport when I was but a girl in the alienage. But, too, I knew great kindness in Ferelden, and the fiercest love. As I said, I knew Hydaelyn all my life as a Spirit of Love, before I knew my own name, and what I did, I did for love. Alistair carried my hopes and dreams for a better future, when the Landsmeet anointed him king. And by the gods of two worlds, I pray he sees them realized upon the throne, with our loves to guide him, for it was not my fate to do so. Hydaelyn required somewhat else of me. Eorzea needed me.”
5. I Want to Wake Up in a City That Doesn’t Sleep:
Aka the post-5.3 fic where Emet became a Scion. I could really single out the entire passage at the climax of the fic, where the Scions are debating Emet-Selch’s Hades’ request to join them, because it was brutally difficult to write from a technical standpoint and I’m intensely proud of the final product. All of my work is extremely character driven but this one even more than usual, and giving all the inner circle crew the time and space to process their feelings was very fulfilling. Playing them all off each other was difficult but fun; Ysayle’s back and forth with Thancred is a standout, as is G’raha’s drawing of parallels between himself and his Ascian foil. But it’s Estinien’s part that still stands out the most to me, for a lot of reasons.
“What on earth is there to consider? I can’t believe we’re even having this conversation! What’s the matter with everyone? Have you all lost the bloody plot?” Alisaie cried, pushing off the wall—with her brother’s prudent, cautioning hand upon her shoulder. To her credit, she did not take a single step further toward Hades, though her hands had balled into fists. “This, this… monster tried to kill us! He has spent thousands of years plotting, scheming, leaving a trail of blood across worlds beyond measure. All because we are little more than insects to his ancient, eldritch eyes. What honestly makes you believe this isn’t just another scheme? That he isn’t manipulating us to his own ends, even now? We would be fools to suffer him to live, much less join us!”
“Killing him won’t bring your grandfather back, girl.”
Estinien’s voice was quiet, and characteristically brusque, when he spoke at last, and all eyes in the room fell upon him when he did; he was leaned back against the bar not far from where Thancred stood, resting back upon his hands. Alisaie’s eyes narrowed, glaring daggers at him.
“Choose your next words carefully, Estinien,” she said coldly.
Estinien chuckled lightly under his breath at her implied threat, shaking his head. It was no mockery, thus; Gisele, well familiar with his quirks, knew it for a manner of self-deprecation. More than once, in private conversation, he confided that he saw much of his younger self in the headstrong young mage, and mayhap that was why he’d taken such an interest in mentoring her, beyond his well noted affection for her brother.
But the brief expression of irony which danced across his sharp features faded, and in its place was one uncommonly gentle, empathetic. “All my life I hungered for vengeance, only to discover how a bitter fruit it is, once tasted,” Estinien said solemnly. “As bitter as the lies upon which we supped all unwitting for a thousand years. It all turned to ash upon my tongue, for Nidhogg’s demise did not return my family to me. I spilled the blood of enough dragons to drown Coerthas and Dravania both, seven times over, and what did it avail me? Ysayle was right to call me a butcher, and I cared not, not until it was too late.”
“You did these things in defense of your people,” Alisaie objected.
“By his own words, did he not?” Estinien asked, with a shrug, jerking his head slightly in Hades direction. “I once viewed dragonkind much the same way as he saw mortals: little more than feral, unconscionable beasts, monsters worthy of aught but steel. And it was that very hatred which left me vulnerable to Nidhogg’s possession. Let anger be your strength, aye, but have a care that it not consume you, nor blind you to the possibilities before you. It consumed me too long, and were it not for my comrades, it still might.”
“Estinien…” Ysayle said, raising her hand to her heart. Estinien smiled at her, with a little incline of his head.
“Tis well I gained a sister, despite our one time animosity. Besides, if I could place my trust in Lady Iceheart, and the Black Wolf…?” Estinien shrugged once more, spreading his hands wide. Gisele’s heart swelled to see the simple kindness in Estinien’s expression, as he leveled his steely gaze upon Hades. “We have not lived the same life, by any measure, but I cannot help but see somewhat of myself in your words. I know from the ache of disillusionment, of the loss of self, that comes when your most closely held truths are stripped away, and you find that your life’s very purpose has been for naught. It took too long for me to find a measure of peace, and I would not have done it without the care of three lovelorn fools who never gave up on me, no matter how poorly I treated them, or how little I deserved their love. Would that Gisele’s might do the same for you as it did me. I am a far better man for it.”
Hades was silent a long moment, before lowering his eyes to place his hand upon his heart, and bowing his head to Estinien. “I thank you, Crimson Dragoon. Your sentiments mean more to me than mere words could ever express,” he said softly.
Estinien, for his part, snorted wordlessly, and leaned back against the bar.

First of all, it's great to have you back, Thy! Hope you're doing good these days. Second, whatever happened to Mr. Compress? Last we saw him, he was being transported in an ambulance but there's no more prisons to put him in. I hope the LOV didn't leave him behind like they did with Toga.
Hi! thank you for being patient with me :’)
Unfortunately, I know as much as you do about Compress. I expect him to show up again in an offhand mention like a background panel or something, if only to show us where he is. Before Tartarus blew up, he was presumably meant to be shipped off there. Now, I’m not sure? Seven other prisons were in shambles and he needed medical assistance so maybe he’s not even locked up yet, who knows.
Though personally I wouldn’t say that the league purposefully left him behind (and neither did they Toga, it was more like Toga left them to go chase a personal goal and then never got to regroup before they all were forced apart). Right now, Shigaraki isn’t even himself, Dabi’s off on his own at that ex quirk cultist hideout that they previously wiped out, Toga’s who knows where, Spinner’s still figuring out what it means to follow a leader who doesn’t play video games with him anymore (lmao), Kurogiri is presumably still in Tartarus, Compress is playing peekaboo and... tbh the fact that they haven’t regrouped yet seems to be deliberate. I wonder what Hori’s planning for them and when Shigi is gonna come back

ISLAM 101: Muslim Culture and Character: Morals And Manners: Studying and Learning (Part 2)
TEACHER–STUDENT RELATIONS
Ali ibn Abu Talib said, “I would be the slave of anyone who teaches me one letter.” This saying expresses the great respect that is due to teachers. Throughout Islamic history, educational institutions have always remained free of association with governmental or political institutions, avoiding partiality in political debates, and thereby pro- tecting the dignity of knowledge, even when scholars were threat- ened with the worst kind of persecution. Teachers did not discrimi- nate between students according to race, class, or socioeconomic background, and tried their best to help all develop into good citi- zens. The Ottoman rulers did not deviate from this tradition and maintained respect for teachers. There is a famous story about Sultan Selim I, the ninth Ottoman sultan, and his teacher Ibn Kemal. When they were returning from victory at the Battle of Mercidabik in 1516 the teacher was traveling in front of the Sultan, and his horse splashed mud on the Sultan’s robes. The Sultan smiled and, saying that the mud was an ornament to his robes, ordered that they be saved—unwashed—and used to cover his coffin.
PROPER ATTITUDE TOWARDS SCHOLARS
Traditionally, out of respect, we avoid calling our parents by their first names; this kind of respect is also due to scholars as well.
Adab demands such respect to scholars, because it is they who are the heirs to the Prophets. Children should learn from our example to honor and esteem scholars, never to act in an improper or un- seemly manner in their presence, and to speak softly when they are in the room. At all times, scholars should be treated with courtesy and politeness.
Yahya ibn Muadh spoke of the value of scholars thus: “Scholars are more merciful to the family of believers than mothers and fa- thers are to their children.” When he was asked why he said this, he answered, “Mothers and fathers save their children from the physi- cal fire in this world, but scholars save them from the eternal fire in the Hereafter.”17 This is one of the reasons why scholars deserve re- spect from us.
A Prophetic saying, related by Ubada ibn al-Samit, states, “One who does not respect their elders, one who does not show sympa- thy and compassion for children, and one who does not know the value of scholars is not of us.”18 In another hadith the Prophet said, “A person who acquires knowledge merely so that they will be praised in front of scholars, or to argue with the ignorant, or to win the admiration of people is bound for Hell.”19
As for the proper behavior for children toward scholars, Ibn Abbas related an experience he had as a child with one of the Companions: “When God’s Messenger passed away, I asked a man from the Ansar, ‘Come, I want to go and learn from the Companions of the Prophet because there are many here now.’ The man replied, ‘I am surprised at you, Ibn Abbas! Do you imagine that anyone will be in need of you (i.e. your knowledge) while the Companions of God’s Messenger are still among us?’ Then he left. I went to the Companions alone and asked them some questions. When I learned that a particular hadith had been related by someone, I would go to that person’s house. If he were sleeping, I would use my cloak as a pillow and lie down in front of his door to wait; the wind would blow dust over me (while waiting there in patience). The man would come out and he would see me, usually addressing me, ‘O cousin of the Prophet! What is wrong, why are you lying here? If you had sent word to me, I would have come to you!’ (And in return) I would answer, ‘No, it is more appropriate that I come to you.’ I would then ask this Companion about the hadith. Later, one day when I was sur- rounded by people (and teaching them what I had learned), that same man from the Ansar came and saw that I was being asked questions. He said, ‘This youth is more intelligent than I.’”20
The following example is another good example of the prop- er behavior of the children of the Companions towards the schol- ars: Said ibn al-Musayyab used to pray two rakats of prayer and then sit down. The children of the Companions would gather around him, but no one would say anything or ask any questions until after he had recited a hadith for them. Then they would ask him questions.21
Hasan al-Basri likewise warned his son to practice adab with scholars, reminding him, “My child! When you sit with scholars, listen more than you speak. Just as you have learned to speak well, now learn to listen well. Until the scholar stops speaking—no mat- ter how long he may speak—do not interrupt him!”
TEACHER ETIQUETTE
Just as the adab of teaching and learning applies to students of all kinds of knowledge, not only religious knowledge, all teachers, no matter what their subject, should practice adab in their duties. The following are some guidelines for teachers:
A teacher should be up to date on the latest information and developments in their field and always come to class well prepared.
A teacher should explain the topic at a level the students will understand, thus not destroying their motivation by making them feel it is too difficult.
A teacher should live an exemplary life which inspires re- spect in terms of their behavior, words, lifestyle, and mor- als. “Respect cannot be forced, it can only be given.” Teachers who constantly scold their students, demand re- spect from them, and try to force it instead of inspiring it are not only the least beloved teachers, they are also the least effective.
A teacher should always strive to love teaching and to com- municate their knowledge in the best way possible.
A teacher should approach students with the same compas- sion as a parent, not indulging hard workers, or belittling or putting down lazy students.
Students’ faults should not be pointed out and listed in front of their friends in order to humiliate them; teaching requires tolerance and a forgiving nature.
When necessary, a teacher should listen to students to share their problems, give them support, and assist them. At the same time, they should be careful not to become so famil- iar and casual with the students that they lower the digni- ty of the pursuit of knowledge.
Grades should not be held over students’ heads as a threat and a teacher must be impartial in assigning grades.
Teachers must avoid accepting expensive gifts, lavish dinner parties, or other such offers made by the families of stu- dents to safeguard the honor and integrity of their office.
STUDENT ETIQUETTE
Clear, concise rules are required for a child’s moral education, character and values to develop properly and to ensure academic success. If this foundation is laid both at home and in the student– teacher relationship, the classroom environment becomes more en- joyable and positive. For this reason the most essential rules will be listed here:
Honesty: This is one of the most basic and critical corner- stones of communal life at any level. Lying, cheating, copying the work of others, stealing, or using things with- out permission must not be tolerated at school; indeed, they are unacceptable in every segment of society.
Courtesy: This is the outer expression of basic respect for oneself and others. Therefore, students must be held re- sponsible for their choice of words or the tone of their voice. The same polite behavior and courtesy that they owe to their elders they also owe to their peers; that is, students need to be courteous to one another.
Social relationships: Students need to be taught to avoid insulting or using vulgar terms of address or styles of com- munication with one another. They must not forget that it is bad behavior to belittle, ridicule, or taunt other stu- dents, or to form cliques. Students should be admonished and warned about such behavior on a regular basis so they will take it seriously, thus learning to be careful about how they joke or tease others.
Personal care: This is an important mark of a person with excellent character. Children must learn to pay attention to personal cleanliness and bathe daily. As they grow, physical cleanliness becomes more and more important, and they should be aware of this. Hygiene is the most ef- fective way to stay healthy and avoid contagious illnesses (which are often rife in school environments). So students should remember to wash their hands with soap before and after meals and before and after using the restroom.

Myrna Loy (born Myrna Adele Williams; August 2, 1905 – December 14, 1993) was an American film, television and stage actress. Trained as a dancer, Loy devoted herself fully to an acting career following a few minor roles in silent films. She was originally typecast in exotic roles, often as a vamp or a woman of Asian descent, but her career prospects improved greatly following her portrayal of Nora Charles in The Thin Man (1934).
Born in Helena, Montana, Loy was raised in rural Radersburg during her early childhood, before relocating to Los Angeles with her mother in her early adolescence. There, she began studying dance, and trained extensively throughout her high school education. She was discovered by production designer Natacha Rambova, who helped facilitate film auditions for her, and she began obtaining small roles in the late 1920s, mainly portraying vamps. Her role in The Thin Man helped elevate her reputation as a versatile actress, and she reprised the role of Nora Charles five more times.
Loy's career began to slow in the 1940s, and she appeared in only a few films in the 1950s, including a lead role in the comedy Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), as well as supporting parts in The Ambassador's Daughter (1956) and the drama Lonelyhearts (1958). She appeared in only eight films between 1960 and 1981, after which she retired from acting.
Although Loy was never nominated for an Academy Award, in March 1991 she received an Honorary Academy Award in recognition of her life's work both onscreen and off, including serving as assistant to the director of military and naval welfare for the Red Cross during World War II, and a member-at-large of the U.S. Commission to UNESCO. Loy died in December 1993 in New York City, aged 88.
Loy was born Myrna Adele Williams on August 2, 1905, in Helena, Montana, the daughter of Adelle Mae ( Johnson) and rancher David Franklin Williams. Her parents had married in Helena in 1904, one year before Loy was born. She had one younger brother, David Frederick Williams (d. 1982). Loy's paternal grandfather, David Thomas Williams, was Welsh, and emigrated from Liverpool, England to the United States in 1856, arriving in Philadelphia. Unable to read or write in English, he later settled in the Montana Territory where he began a career as a rancher. Loy's maternal grandparents were Scottish and Swedish immigrants. During her childhood, her father worked as a banker, real estate developer, and farmland appraiser in Helena, and was the youngest man ever elected to serve in the Montana state legislature. Her mother had studied music at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, and at one time considered a career as a concert performer, but instead devoted her time to raising Loy and her brother. Loy's mother was a lifelong Democrat, while her father was a staunch Republican. She was raised in the Methodist faith.
Loy spent her early life in Radersburg, Montana, a rural mining community approximately 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Helena. During the winter of 1912, Loy's mother nearly died from pneumonia, and her father sent his wife and daughter to La Jolla, California. Loy's mother saw great potential in Southern California, and during one of her husband's visits, she encouraged him to purchase real estate there. Among the properties he bought was land that he would later sell, at a considerable profit, to filmmaker Charlie Chaplin for his film studio there. Although her mother tried to persuade her husband to move to California permanently, he preferred ranch life and the three eventually returned to Montana. Soon afterward, Loy's mother needed a hysterectomy and insisted Los Angeles was a safer place to have it done, so she, Loy, and Loy's brother David moved to Ocean Park, where Loy began to take dancing lessons. After the family returned to Montana, Loy continued her dancing lessons, and at the age of 12, Myrna Williams made her stage debut performing a dance she had choreographed based on "The Blue Bird" from the Rose Dream operetta at Helena's Marlow Theater.
When Loy was 12, her father died during the 1918 flu pandemic in November of that year. Loy's mother permanently relocated the family to California, where they settled in Culver City, outside Los Angeles. Loy attended the exclusive Westlake School for Girls while continuing to study dance in downtown Los Angeles. When her teachers objected to her extracurricular participation in theatrical arts, her mother enrolled her in Venice High School, and at 15, she began appearing in local stage productions.
In 1921, Loy posed for Venice High School sculpture teacher Harry Fielding Winebrenner as "Inspiration"; the full length figure was central in his allegorical sculpture group Fountain of Education. Completed in 1922, the sculpture group was installed in front of the campus outdoor pool in May 1923 where it stood for decades. Loy's slender figure with her uplifted face and one arm extending skyward presented a "vision of purity, grace, youthful vigor, and aspiration" that was singled out in a Los Angeles Times story that included a photo of the "Inspiration" figure along with the model's name—the first time her name appeared in a newspaper. A few months later, Loy's "Inspiration" figure was temporarily removed from the sculpture group and transported aboard the battleship Nevada for a Memorial Day pageant in which "Miss Myrna Williams" participated. Fountain of Education can be seen in the opening scenes of the 1978 film Grease. After decades of exposure to the elements and vandalism, the original concrete statue was removed from display in 2002, and replaced in 2010 by a bronze duplicate paid for through an alumni-led fundraising campaign.
Loy left school at the age of 18 to begin to help with the family's finances. She obtained work at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, where she performed in what were called prologues, elaborate musical sequences that were related to and served as preliminary entertainment before the feature film. During this period, Loy saw Eleonora Duse in the play Thy Will Be Done, and the simple acting techniques she employed made such an impact on Loy that she tried to emulate them throughout her career.
While Loy was dancing in prologues at the Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, portrait photographer Henry Waxman took several pictures of her that were noticed by Rudolph Valentino when the actor went to Waxman's studio for a sitting. Valentino was looking for a leading lady for Cobra, the first independent project he and his wife Natacha Rambova were producing. Loy tested for the role, which went to Gertrude Olmstead instead, but soon after she was hired as an extra for Pretty Ladies (1925), in which she and fellow newcomer Joan Crawford were among a bevy of chorus girls dangling from an elaborate chandelier.
Rambova hired Loy for a small but showy role opposite Nita Naldi in What Price Beauty?, a film she was producing. Shot in May 1925, the film remained unreleased for three years; but stills of Loy in her exotic makeup and costume appeared in Motion Picture magazine and led to a contract with Warner Bros. There, her surname was changed from Williams to Loy.
Loy's silent film roles were mainly as a vamp or femme fatale, and she frequently portrayed characters of Asian or Eurasian background in films such as Across the Pacific (1926), A Girl in Every Port (1928), The Crimson City (1928), The Black Watch (1929), and The Desert Song (1929), which she later recalled "kind of solidified my exotic non-American image." In 1930 she appeared in The Great Divide. It took years for her to overcome this stereotype, and as late as 1932, she was cast as a villainous Eurasian in Thirteen Women (1932). She also played, opposite Boris Karloff, the depraved sadistic daughter of the title character in The Mask of Fu Manchu (1932).
In 1932, Loy began dating producer Arthur Hornblow Jr., when he was still married to his wife, Juliette Crosby. Prior to that, Loy appeared in small roles in The Jazz Singer and a number of early lavish Technicolor musicals, including The Show of Shows, The Bride of the Regiment, and Under a Texas Moon. As a result, she became associated with musical roles, and when they began to lose favor with the public, her career went into a slump. In 1934, Loy appeared in Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable and William Powell. When gangster John Dillinger was shot to death after leaving a screening of the film at the Biograph Theater in Chicago, the film received widespread publicity, with some newspapers reporting that Loy had been Dillinger's favorite actress.
After appearing with Ramón Novarro in The Barbarian (1933), Loy was cast as Nora Charles in the 1934 film The Thin Man. Director W. S. Van Dyke chose Loy after he detected a wit and sense of humor that her previous films had not revealed. At a Hollywood party, he pushed her into a swimming pool to test her reaction, and felt that her aplomb in handling the situation was exactly what he envisioned for Nora. Louis B. Mayer at first refused to allow Loy to play the part because he felt she was a dramatic actress, but Van Dyke insisted. Mayer finally relented on the condition that filming be completed within three weeks, as Loy was committed to start filming Stamboul Quest. The Thin Man became one of the year's biggest hits, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Loy received excellent reviews and was acclaimed for her comedic skills. Her costar William Powell and she proved to be a popular screen couple and appeared in 14 films together, one of the most prolific pairings in Hollywood history. Loy later referred to The Thin Man as the film "that finally made me ... after more than 80 films."
Her successes in Manhattan Melodrama and The Thin Man marked a turning point in her career, and she was cast in more important pictures. Such films as Wife vs. Secretary (1936) with Clark Gable and Jean Harlow, and Petticoat Fever (1936) with Robert Montgomery gave her opportunity to develop comedic skills. She made four films in close succession with William Powell: Libeled Lady (1936), which also starred Jean Harlow and Spencer Tracy; The Great Ziegfeld (1936), in which she played Billie Burke opposite Powell's Florenz Ziegfeld; the second Thin Man film, After the Thin Man (1936), with Powell and James Stewart; and the romantic comedy Double Wedding (1937). Loy married Arthur Hornblow in 1936 in-between filming the successive productions. She was later rumored to have had affairs with co-star Tracy between 1935 and 1936 while filming Whipsaw and Libeled Lady.
She also made three more films with Gable at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM): Parnell (1937) was a historical drama and one of the most poorly received films of either Loy's or Gable's career, but their other pairings in Test Pilot and Too Hot to Handle (both 1938) were successes. While working for MGM, Loy was outspoken about the studio's casting hierarchy, especially based on race, and was quoted as saying: "Why does every black person in the movies have to play a servant? How about a black person walking up the steps of a court house carrying a briefcase?"
During this period, Loy was one of Hollywood's busiest and highest-paid actresses, and in 1937 and 1938, she was listed in the annual "Quigley Poll of the Top Ten Money Making Stars," which was compiled from the votes of movie exhibitors throughout the United States for the stars who had generated the most revenue in their theaters over the previous year.
By the late 1930s, Loy was highly regarded for her performances in romantic comedies, and she was anxious to demonstrate her dramatic ability. She was cast in the lead female role in The Rains Came (1939) opposite Tyrone Power. She filmed Third Finger, Left Hand (1940) with Melvyn Douglas and appeared in I Love You Again (1940), Love Crazy (1941), and Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), all with William Powell.
On June 1, 1942, Loy divorced husband Hornblow in Reno, citing "mental cruelty" as the impetus for separating.[46] Five days after the divorce, she married John D. Hertz, Jr. an advertising executive and founder of Hertz Rent A Car, at his sister's home in New York City.[46] They remained married for two years, eventually divorcing in Cuernavaca, Mexico, on August 21, 1944, with Loy again citing mental cruelty.
With the outbreak of World War II the same year, Loy all but abandoned her acting career to focus on the war effort and began devoting her time working with the Red Cross.[48] She was so fiercely outspoken against Adolf Hitler that her name appeared on his blacklist, resulting in her films being banned in Germany.[49] She also helped run a Naval Auxiliary canteen and toured frequently to raise funds for the war efforts. Around 1945, Loy began dating producer and screenwriter Gene Markey, who had previously been married to actresses Joan Bennett and Hedy Lamarr.[46] The two were married in a private ceremony on January 3, 1946, at the chapel on Terminal Island, while Markey was serving in the military.
She returned to films with The Thin Man Goes Home (1945). In 1946, she played the wife of returning serviceman Fredric March in The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). Loy was paired with Cary Grant in David O. Selznick's The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947). The film co-starred a teenaged Shirley Temple. Following its success, she appeared again with Grant in Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948).
In 1950, Loy co-starred with Clifton Webb in Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), which was a box-office hit, grossing $4.4 million in the United States. The same year, she divorced Markey. Her fourth and final husband was Howland H. Sargeant, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs and president of Radio Liberty, whom she married on June 2, 1951, in Fort Myer, Virginia. Sargeant, a Presbyterian, wanted the marriage officiated in the church, but they were unable to do so due to Loy's recent divorce.
Throughout the 1950s, Loy assumed an influential role as co-chairman of the Advisory Council of the National Committee Against Discrimination in Housing. In 1948, she had become a member of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO, the first Hollywood celebrity to do so. In 1952, she starred in the Cheaper by the Dozen sequel, Belles on Their Toes. In 1956, she appeared in The Ambassador's Daughter along with John Forsythe and Olivia de Havilland. She played opposite Montgomery Clift and Robert Ryan in Lonelyhearts (1958), Dore Schary's adaptation of Nathanael West's classic 1933 novel Miss Lonelyhearts. In 1960, she appeared in Midnight Lace and From the Terrace, but was not in another film until 1969 in The April Fools. In 1965, Loy won the Sarah Siddons Award for her work in Chicago theatre. Loy, a lifelong Democrat, publicly supported the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960.
After divorcing her fourth husband Sargeant in 1960, Loy relocated to 23 East 74th Street in Manhattan's Upper East Side. She later lived at 425 East 63rd Street. In 1967, she was cast in the television series The Virginian, appearing in an episode titled "Lady of the House". In 1972, she appeared as the suspect's mother-in-law in an episode of the television series Columbo titled "Etude in Black". In 1974, she had a supporting part in Airport 1975 playing Mrs. Devaney, a heavy-drinking woman imbibing Jim Beam and Olympia Beer mixed together; a foil to the character played by Sid Caesar. In 1975, Loy was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent two mastectomies to treat the disease. She kept her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment from the public until the publication of her autobiography in 1987.
In 1978, she appeared in the film The End as the mother of the main character played by Burt Reynolds. Her last motion picture performance was in 1980 in Sidney Lumet's Just Tell Me What You Want. She also returned to the stage, making her Broadway debut in a short-lived 1973 revival of Clare Boothe Luce's The Women. She toured in a 1978 production of Alan Ayckbourn's Relatively Speaking, directed by David Clayton.
In 1981, she appeared in the television drama Summer Solstice, which was Henry Fonda's last performance. Her last acting role was a guest spot on the sitcom Love, Sidney, in 1982.
Her autobiography, Myrna Loy: Being and Becoming, was published in 1987. The following year, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center. Although Loy was never nominated for an Academy Award for any single performance, after an extensive letter-writing campaign and years of lobbying by screenwriter and then-Writers Guild of America, West board member Michael Russnow, who enlisted the support of Loy's former screen colleagues and friends such as Roddy McDowall, Sidney Sheldon, Harold Russell, and many others, she received a 1991 Academy Honorary Award "for her career achievement". She accepted via camera from her New York City home, simply stating, "You've made me very happy. Thank you very much." It was her last public appearance in any medium.
Loy died at age 88 on December 14, 1993, at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan during a surgery following a long, unspecified illness. She had been frail and in failing health, which had resulted in her being unable to attend the 1991 Academy Awards ceremony, where she was to receive a lifetime achievement Oscar. She was cremated in New York and her ashes interred at Forestvale Cemetery in her native Helena, Montana.

Hello! Can I please have a dorm sorting? I'm an INFP and Enneatype 6 Virgo. I'm very good with memorizing if its the topic I need to learn or interested about. I like to learn about psychology because I want to help people mentally and emotionally. I'm open minded & intuitive to other people, always trying to understand their backgrounds & be patient with them even if they're irritable or hard to deal with. Thank you in advance for my request! ^v^.
Of course; here it is, all gift wrapped and shiny.
You are most welcome, please enjoy.
***Warning: spoiler ahead (in the last paragraph) for Deuce’s past from the main story campaign prologue.***
The shape of thy soul is...
Tumblr media
...HEARTSLABYUL!
Your mediating skills will be put to good use in Heartslabyul--and it will really help take a load off of Trey! There are people upset with the dorm leader on a regular basis, and Ace and Deuce often fight like a cat and dog. It’s up to you to come to their rescue and sort things out.
Everyone’s story is different--that’s the motto you go by. You like to listen to people and assist them with their problems. This dorm has a lot of eccentric students, but you can remember each and every one of them and their unique quirks and habits. You maintain a level head and go out of your way to assist your peers in a dorm that is normally upside down.
Ace is easily the worst troublemaker in Heartslabyul. He can be abrasive at times and gets into fights with other students so often...! But despite that, you make time in your day to be with him and try to keep his misbehavior to a minimum. Deuce lets his delinquent side come through every so often, and it’s a bit tougher for you to calm him down since you don’t match his physical prowess. Wedging yourself between Deuce and his intended target and shouting at him about the power of friendship seems to work just fine, though. Cater and Trey are your supportive upperclassmen--they lend you a hand when you can’t placate people on your own, and you appreciate their efforts. Finally, there’s Riddle! He has a lot of emotional issues of his own, so you also try and devote time to hear him out. Hopefully with time, you can help Heartslabyul settle down into some state of normalcy.
Best of luck at Night Raven College!
