Napoleon 2023, Review
I saw this with @idefilarate, and it was such a train-wreck. There was so much wrong with it, in the funniest way imaginable. We spent the entire film whispering what was wrong to each other.
This will be a long post, and I’m aware a lot of other people have already made some excellent points on here.
I can see what Ridley Scott was attempting with this film, and there are several reasons it didn’t work. I also have some historical specific points to make.
Directing Choices, Acting Problems, and the English Propaganda
It can be argued that Scott was trying to show Napoleon in a “more human” light, and I am always perfectly happy with that interpretation. It could also be argued he was deliberately showing Napoleon in a negative light, which I am also fine with. However, this film didn’t really do either. Napoleon did not seem more human for his brutish behaviour to Josephine, the childish tantrums or the forced jokes. If Scott had wanted a proper negative light, he would have focused on Napoleon’s ruthlessness, such as with the Massacre in Egypt, and his willingness to bypass the laws.
The overall sense I got when watching the film was that it was too compressed. The action went from point to point without showing how on Earth it got there. We had about ten minutes of Napoleon as consul, and then he was unexpectedly emperor, with a token line from Talleyrand about becoming emperor. Too much stuff in not enough time. However, I was also bored. By the time it got to Napoleon on Elba, I half felt like taking out my phone and doing something else. There was no narrative arc to keep the load of action in place, and the characters went through no real development.
There was some good acting. The lady playing Letizia Bonaparte was excellent, for the ten minutes we saw of her, as was Talleyrand. There were even a few scenes with the main characters (like Josephine cooing over the baby) that I actively enjoyed. But for the main part, every character had one mode and that was it. Napoleon was sulky and incompetently panicked. Josephine was moody or upset in a coquettish way. Tzar Alexis I was obnoxiously cheerful about everything.
I can see, as others have pointed out, that Scott was following English propaganda of the “Corsican Ogre”. However, he payed no attention to the fact that Wellington had a good deal of respect for Napoleon as a general, and that part of Napoleon’s charm for the English press was just how astonishingly unexpected he was. This wasn’t a caricature of Napoleon. This was a caricature of a caricature.
Historical Inaccuracies
Oh. Where to start with the many many many things that were wrong with this. I am fairly lenient when it comes to historical accuracy in fiction. Authors and filmmakers are allowed some artistic liberties, otherwise they wouldn’t be writing fiction. However, the sheer amount of nonsense Scott made up is incredible. I am going to list it in bullet-points, so as not to rant too much:
The age gap between Josephine and Napoleon, and how that messed up their relationship.
The utter butchery of FRev, including Marie Antoinette executed in 1789, and Robespierre looking like Danton and spouting random nonsense.
Hot-shot destroying the ships in Toulon harbour, whilst N hadn’t finished capturing little Gibraltar.
Josephine’s dress hanging off her shoulder as if she were a whore.
The lake battle with “the high ground”. It doesn’t deserve the name of Austerlitz.
The lack of tactics in any of the battles. Just men running at each other.
Josephine and Napoleon’s relationship being at best toxic and strained.
Napoleon returned from Elba because Josephine had a fling with Alexander, despite the fact Josephine had historically died earlier that year.
Letizia making Napoleon cheat randomly.
The scopes at Waterloo, the lack of farmhouses, the tents just behind the lines.
Wellington being clumsy and talking too much nonsense.
The use of Ça Ira and the Camagnole (which was in itself somewhat good), but the utter lack of any of the other excellent Napoleonic folk songs and military marches.
That is all that immediately comes to mind. Having said all that, I did enjoy the cinematography, and it was worth seeing, just to confirm my suspicions that it was a mess, and that there are many better films. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed this rant! Let me know if there’s anything I’ve missed off the list of failings.

My wmmap au timeline
So we start with the Lp! Verse
-Jennette wakes up from her illness and finds out that Athanasia had been executed by Claude. Distraught she turns on him and begins to plan her overthrow
-She murders Claude using her black magic and takes the throne for herself. Then starts to study time magic and sends everything back in time to when she was 5.
We leave the Lp! Verse and come into the current timeline
-Jennette wastes no time in studying magic and alchemy. Her magic grows so much to the point that it attracts monsters. To avoid suspicion and potential disaster she builds a small hut out in the forest to work in.
-At 14 she attends Athy's debutante and greets her the same way. Chasing after her to hand back her ribbon, but paying Claude no attention. (I'll probably re-design her debutante dress to)
-Now a slight variation to this au is that Athy realizes early that she was the original Athanasia and had regained her memories too. So she's very apathetic towards Claude and only acts cutesy to please him. She and Jennette share plans to take over the throne through private tea parties.
-Anyways we of course have to bring the boys in here. Kiel is fine and dandy with helping put Athy on the throne and they all pressure Lucas into mentoring Jennie. So now Jennie calls him Mr.Lucas and has a matching cloak like him :D
-So after years of preparation. They set it into motion. Jennette kills Claude once more and places the crown on Athanasia's head. The 4 kids make an mini coronation and present the new empress to the masses. The end
Extra notes:
-I'm making a Siodonnian boyfriend for Athy
-Letizia my baby girl will finally see the light of day after being stuck in my basement. Knight lady Leti and her pretty witch wife Jennette❤️
-Lukiel I guess because I am the biggest, slutiest, whore for rivals/enemies to lovers
@jeweled-blue-eyes Bestie I know you said something about Siodonnian boyfriend once. Gimme your headcanons. The only group projects I like are fandoms ones sooooo

“It’s great timing for heirs to undergo military training, especially in Leonor’s case because the Spanish military is often associated with Franco’s regime and right wing politicians, probably why Letizia reportedly did not want Leonor to go through the military. With the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine war, the military would probably enjoy some increase in popularity in the next few years.” - Submitted by Anonymous

Lately I've been thinking about modern day Napolington dealing with murder fairies. They're just two bickering ambassadors or some such then oops horrific murders happen.
I had a long running modern day AU head canon thing wherein Arthur was in Paris representing the UK on some matter or another (his actual position, and what he was there for, is irrelevant) and Napoleon was a member of the French government (which ministry he'd be in changes for me on the regular since he'd be a good fit for a few of them - regardless, he's in a very senior position) and due to Shenanigans and Situations and a bit of a rooftop drunken party they end up shacking up and Arthur's family is shocked and appalled and Napoleon's siblings are all like "god you're a mess, Napoleone, and really? an Englishman?" though his mother would be Very Catholic(tm) about it all. His father wouldn't care because Carlo was a bit of a chaotic lush.
(I have it that he was married to Josephine but she died within the last two to three years of something unexpected and he's now single-dad-ing it with their kids.)
Murat is all, 'Welcome to the family. They're going to give you a really hard time for the next ten years then they might accept you. Maybe. Though as an Englishman, maybe not.' Turns to Napoleon, 'Really?? An Englishman?? The least you could have done was date a Scotsman or something. The only reason my kids are learning English is because I believe in knowing thy enemy.' (Napoleon, sotto voce: it's not the one hundred years war anymore. christ.)
Arthur is like, 'See, at least people talk about things in this family. If in a sort of terribly Corsican, over the top, wow-that-didn't-need-to-be-put-quite-like-that fashion. My mother texted me: You shall arrive promptly for Christmas dinner. You know the size of the family dining table and so therefore there's only one spot being set for you. And that's literally all the communication I've received about the entire matter.'
Murat: Holy shit. Savage.
Arthur, 'Napoleon, meanwhile, had fifteen family conference calls about it. There was some yelling. My Italian isn't very good, but I think he was called a Little Slut by Jerome then your wife said "at least he's not Austrian like that one mistake you dated".'
Murat, 'I know, I was on them.'
Arthur, 'You should do family zoom calls. Then you can see the facial expressions he's making through it all.'
Pauline and Elise are the only nice, normal ones (aside from Hortense and Eugene and the younger generation more broadly). Caroline just thinks it's hilarious. Joseph is nice by dint of not really caring. He's just like, 'mama, we all saw what he was like in university.' and Letizia is like, 'at least he married and had children before going all peculiar. At least I have grandchildren. Even if he was married to a woman I didn't approve of.'
Joseph:
Joseph: you have so many grandchildren.
Joseph: also you approve of almost no one's spouse.
Lucien, like Murat, is appalled that it's an Englishman. He's like, 'brother, brother, I know some very nice French artists and writers. Let me introduce you to them.' and Napoleon is like, 'your friends are all pretentious freaks, Lucien, you know that right?'
-----
sorry the entire thing becomes a comedy of errors almost immediately
-----
anyway! Murder fairies! I love the idea of a modern AU with murder fairies. OOooooooh, they're visiting England because Napoleon wants to go on a walking tour because he's outdoorsy like that and enjoys walks and nature.
Queue some fucked up murders.
Also Arthur's family being Posh(tm) and English(tm). (Anne is like: I'm trying to accept this. I'm trying to be good about this. Arthur is all: can you try harder? Granted, you're doing better than literally everyone else. Gerald just lectured me about God.)
Napoleon: not sure what i'm scared more of: the murder fairies or your mother.
Richard: at least I'm not the one with the fucked up love life for ten minutes!
Arthur: Richard, you are not helping.
OR
it's in Paris, there's political stuff happening in the background and then people start experiencing some weird things. Reflections in the mirrors are blurry about the edges. People think they see things then turn around and there's nothing behind them. Bumps in the night.
There's something about making big cities super claustrophobic that I like. Atmospheric countryside is really fun, and I love the ease in which it allows you to drop into the gothic, but there's something especially horrifying in being in a busy place full of people and still the creatures can get you.
Also, the fact that the murder fairies access our realm via mirrors and dreams means there's no real escape.
With modernity, well, we're all carrying mirrors at any given moment since cellphones are reflective surfaces. Also something with the selfie camera would be hell of a lot of fun.
Also the murder fairies wear people's skin as their glamour so you never actually know if who you're talking to is the person or the fairy.
But there's so much potential with modern technology.
Murder fairies infest the metro. You descend down to get on the metro at Rennes or whatever and when the train pulls up the reflection in the windows as they pass by shows a murder fairy behind you and when you turn around it's just the crowd.
Fun fun fun!! Fun for the whole family!
-----
excerpt from my own murder fairy story that has yet to see the light of day:
The other fairies move forward, two already have swords drawn. The king holds up a hand and they stop their advance. A smile full of teeth. I see what your plan is. The king steps forward. Napoleon does his best to look down at the king whilst looking up. I had hoped you would be willing as Peredur was willing. Magic is stronger when the healing gift is freely given, but I will take what I need. 'How will this work?' Napoleon asks, sweating. The heat overwhelms. Sharp cracks of rock splitting slice air. 'If it is me you need, my own leg never fully healed, just as yours doesn't seem to want to heal. Mapping mine over yours won’t make it better. And your wound doesn’t mean your kingdom is wounded or must suffer. I believe that some power of kingship comes embodied in the person himself, but much of it extends beyond the mere physical form. Yes, the monarch represents the land and the people, but if you are wounded, and you allow that to determine the quality of your kingship, to control your actions, dictate and consume your leadership, you were never fit to rule in the first place. That right belongs to someone else.' This is not your world and it does not operate by your rules. My land is bound to my body. If I am wasted away, so is my land. You have seen where it is barren. 'Even if that is so, I can't heal you. My body, my skin, will not heal you. No one's body can heal you. Didn't you remain wounded when you took Arthur's appearance? Percival’s? If so, that was no healing. It was applying a bandage to something requiring stiches.' You cannot know that. ‘I am not your Percival. You are not my fisher king.' The king shakes his head in a pitying manner. Reaching forward, he wraps a clawed hand around Napoleon's neck and lifts him up as if he were nothing but a rag doll. [...] The fisher king was healed by the Grail question. But that is legend, and this is real life. Real life where a woman is on fire, ripping apart a bridge. Real life where a fairy is strangling him. Real life where he dangles two feet off the ground fast heading towards unconsciousness. Napoleon tries for air, tries for the question, 'what is it that troubles—' Searing pain across stomach. Everything is stars, blurred shapes, sharp colours. He thinks he might be screaming. Movement. He is aware of being thrown. Hard rock. Searing hot rock. He feels it through clothes. His hands hold coiled intestines. He thinks he should ask for opium. He thinks it fitting he'd die on a bridge with stomach cut open. It’s poetic and his life has always been something of a romance.
Napoleon is having a great time, everyone!

19 June 2023: King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan’s keenness on working with Spain, through its upcoming European Union presidency, to help create a political horizon that would preserve the prospects of just and lasting peace, for the Palestinians and the Israelis.
At a meeting with King Felipe VI of Spain in Madrid, attended by Queen Rania and Queen Letizia, King Abdullah said, “Our joint commitment to peace is evident in supporting the two-state solution as the path forward in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict”.
His Majesty noted in the meeting, attended by Prince Hashem bin Abdullah, that peace on the basis of the two-state solution is key to ensuring peace and prosperity in the entire region, and beyond.
“We will continue working with Spain to resolve the crises facing our wider Euro-Mediterranean region, out of our shared belief that dialogue and cooperation must be the way forward for mutual progress”, the King added. (Source: Petra)
In addition, His Majesty said Jordan and Spain are taking an important step in building partnerships, out of the realisation that “the only way forward is together. We cannot overcome the multitude of challenges facing our world alone”.
The King added that so much has happened in the world over the past eight years since his last visit to Spain, adding that despite crises, conflicts, and the pandemic, the relationship and the warm friendships “between our families, our peoples, and our countries have stayed true, and continued to grow from strength to strength”.
“It is such partnerships that form the foundation of global stability that is much needed for our regions, and our world. And today, this visit is yet another building block in solidifying this relationship, which has continued to grow over the past seven decades,” His Majesty said.
The King highlighted the fruitful talks held with King Felipe VI and President of the Government of Spain Pedro Sánchez, adding that he looks forward to launching a strategic partnership between the two countries.
His Majesty noted that elevating the ties between Jordan and Spain to the strategic level will enable both countries to work more closely on the issues that matter to both peoples and to the world.
In addition, the King said Jordan and Spain are partners in the pursuit of regional and global peace and prosperity, working together to counter the impact of climate change on food and energy security, pointing to a longstanding partnership in the economic, development, and humanitarian spheres.
“We are truly grateful for Spain’s support for our development efforts, and we look to expand our cooperation in education, tourism, cultural exchange, as well as water and energy,” His Majesty said, adding that both countries are equally dedicated to building a more stable world for future generations.
Turning to fighting terrorism, the King underlined that Spain and Jordan have come together to co-organise the latest round of the Aqaba Process meetings, which will take place on Tuesday in Cordoba, noting that he looks forward to fruitful discussions there with friends and partners, on strengthening global coordination in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
His Majesty also congratulated the Spanish Monarch on the anniversary of his coronation.
For his part, King Felipe VI commended the deep-rooted relations between the two countries and peoples, noting that King Abdullah’s visit marks his ninth coronation anniversary.
He underlined the strong ties between Jordan and Spain and their joint aspiration to democratic co-existence, progress and modernity, in addition to their keenness on actively contributing to peace in the region and across the globe.
The Spanish monarch reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian cause in the region, commending Jordan’s continuous efforts to reach just and lasting peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.
King Felipe VI also highlighted the pivotal role of the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which has international and Spanish support.
In addition, he expressed his country’s keenness on enhancing its partnership with Jordan within the Union for the Mediterranean, and through Spain’s rotating presidency of the EU.
King Felipe VI commended Jordan’s efforts in hosting Syrian refugees, as well as Palestinian and Iraqi refugees in the past, highlighting the importance of Jordan’s efforts towards reaching a solution to the Syrian crisis.
Describing Jordan as a centrepiece to a regional balance that is of strategic importance to Spain and Europe, the Spanish monarch highlighted Spain’s keenness on enhancing investment cooperation, especially in the water, renewable energy, and tourism sectors.
He also underlined the importance of elevating relations between the two countries to a strategic level to enhance cooperation in various fields.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, Jordan’s Ambassador to Spain Areej Hawamdeh, and a number of senior Spanish officials attended the meeting.

The Belgian government is stepping up its fight against organised crime and the drug smuggling that goes with it by hiring more customs agents at the Port of Antwerp.
As Europe’s second largest port, millions of shipping containers pass through its gates every year, which is why it is often called the gateway to the continent, alongside the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
"For the last five years, we have been breaking (drugs) records here in Antwerp," Florence Angelici, spokesperson for the Belgian Federal Public Finance Service told Euronews. "Last year, there were 89 tonnes of cocaine seized here in Antwerp. It was a very big year, but still, we see the numbers rising."
"We are currently hiring 100 new customs agents and we are about to build new scanning devices directly inside the terminals and the aim is to scan 100% of the risk containers."
Some 41 tonnes were recovered by authorities in 2017, with the number rising year-on-year to reach 65.5 tonnes in 2020.
Seizures hit a peak in 2021, with 89 metric tonnes seized after investigators cracked the encrypted messaging service Sky ECC and intercepted a billion messages during a two-year investigation.
War on drugs is already lost
For Professor Letizia Paoli, an expert in organised crime at Catholic University Leuven, the war on drugs is already lost and Europe should start focusing instead on the damage caused.
"The war against [drug] trafficking cannot be won," she told Euronews. "And I think that police forces all over Europe should focus not so much on reducing the flows because in areas such as the European Union with open borders, it's really hard to stick to the use of laws.
"Instead they should, as much as possible, try to reduce the harms associated with drug trafficking itself, the harms of violence and the harms of corruption."
Paoli added that an EU-wide discussion on the legalisation of some narcotics should be explored.
"At the same time, (we should) start a debate on whether or not some drugs should be legalised in such a way as to reduce the revenues of organised criminals."
But as drug seizures have increased, so has violence linked to organised crime.
Just last month, Belgium's Justice Minister, Vincent Van Quickenborne, was caught up in a foiled kidnapping plot linked to organised crime in the Netherlands.
He described it as “narco-terrorism” with others even calling Belgium a "narcostate". Paoli, however, said this definition is unjustified.
"There is no reason to define Belgium as a narcostate. There are huge differences with real narcostates, such as Mexico, for example," she explained.
"In Belgium, in the Netherlands, the public administration has more integrity, so there are very few cases known of civil servants that have been corrupted by organised criminals."
Paoli added that the record cocaine recovered last year at the Port of Antwerp nearly matched the whole EU's yearly consumption and still prices across the continent did not increase.
In fact, she said the cost of cocaine even decreased in some cases, showing that supply is still readily flowing through Europe, despite police seizures.

Who is She.
Mother: (self-definition): Protector
Arizona. Michael's mom, brother and other family live there. We travelled for 3 days maybe 4. We had 2 cats with us, Gemini and Romeo; I forget how we acquired him. He was a sweet orange kitty and loved to roam the neighborhood. Somewhere between moving from Illinois, visiting Iowa for my birthday and moving to Arizona, we stopped for ice cream and I let him try it... then I couldn't get him to stop eating it. I remember watching a home video, we're at a park, sister and I out of the car and parents in the car. She aims the camera at me asking me what happened, and the look of disappointment on my face as I look down at my ice cream, which I barely had taken a lick of. We couldn't help but laugh.
Family of 4 packed with 2 cats, tailer in tow. I think it was a 96 ford escort. Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico. Arizona. We stopped in Texas to see some of Michael's old friends. This is when my love for a Great Dane started. They had 2, I think, probably such a big dog in a small house, it seemed like it was 2. He had his own couch and lived like a king. I remember he didn't like the video camera. She found that out. On the road again. One of the cats pooped in the car, I laughed and sister cried, it was on her blanket. We stopped in Albuquerque. So incredibly cool that we passed through as the Hot Air Balloon Fest was happening. I loved to see them in all sorts of shapes and characters and colors! Just wow. We stayed at a hotel once or twice. One of the nights we stayed at a hotel, a fight broke out between my parents. I couldn't sleep, the TV on, apparently Michael couldn't sleep either. He put on the porn channel and was playing with himself. He didn't know I was awake, I didn't know what to do, I was kind of frozen. If I moved, I feared he'd know I was awake, Id get in trouble. He started to play with her too. They fucked while we were in the same room. I mean.. that's weird right? I was 7, sister 5. If they were in the bathroom together or something, not that it would make it better, but at least we wouldn't be in the same room, 3 feet away. I think she realized I was awake. Michael punched the wall, they were screaming at each other, I don't remember words, just the energy. Violent. I felt like it was my fault. I remember looking at him like I was supposed to say I'm sorry. Sorry for what? Being a kid. existing? I don't think anything was ever mentioned of that again. Back on the road.
We moved in with Grandma J, Michael's mom, and Jeremy, her roommate. She was so excited to see him after so many years. Hearing her yell his name and run to him with open arms. That's a sweet core memory. I think he had been in Arkansas for a while, maybe he lived with his dad at some point and learned he wasn't what he thought? I have a feeling their relationship has always been a bit strained. My parents had the master bed with the bathroom. It was definitely a small house, there was a huge back yard though. I guess this is when my story gets more messy. She learns an awful lot about Michael and his vices. Their drinking didn't get better and it seem that meth was still making a monster of them. I remember her tweaking out that a cop lived across the street. She peeked through the blinds often, thinking someone is watching the house. Was Grandma J in on their addiction too? Jeremy?
The neighborhood kids were cool! Alvey and his brothers Sampson and Zane, Lacey and her brother Andrew, Chelsea and her brother Jake, LeTizia and her brother Emelio, Natalie was an only child brat, there were some girls who lived on the end of the street, I forget their name. I got caught stealing my parents lighters to pretend to smoke weed under her back porch; rolled up leaves in a play-doh pipe, man did that shit burn! Daniel, and his brothers. I was in love with Daniel, I suppose he was my first kiss! Mike and Marc McCoy, twins, all the girls swooned. We were the cool kids. We built ramps out of cinder blocks and ply wood for our bikes. Had to see how many of us we could jump over, before the back tire hit someone. Many major bifs when the board snapped. How high of a jump could we make? 3,4 blocks high? 5? Letizia told the story of El Chupacabra, had me scared for months. We definitely tried. Chelsea "married" Emileo, he was 5 and she was 12, young love! We had balloons, food, cake, and gifts to celebrate the new couple. I have a photo album of that! Gem! Sister and Zane were on and off. When Daniel moved, I was in love with Alvey, but crushing hard on his older brother Sampson. So many cool forts were built! Tarps, 2X4's, nails and cinder blocks. Why there was a pleather of cinderblocks, I do not know.
Uncle Richard got a new 4 wheeler and had to bring it over to play. That's the cool thing about Arizona, trails everywhere. Empty lots had dirt bike jumps, don't wreck, you'll fall into the cactus. Michael took me for a long ride, I sat in front of him so I could drive once we got on the trail. It was so cool! Wide open on the throttle, doing donuts. I loved it! When we got home, though, she was freaking out. They had a HUGE fight, I remember. I had gone to the bathroom, and she rushed in and asked me what was in my urine. How was I supposed to know what was going on. I responded confused, "I don't know.. bubbles?'. On the ride, Michael had taken over the throttle on the 4 wheeler, I remember his hand being wet. She thought he touched me or raped me or something, she was pissed. I don't remember what gave her that impression that had happened. I never was able to understand the why or what was so sexual about the drive. I still don't. This was the first incident of many.

Book Summary:
Delancey Simmons is a girl on a mission: to rise up from the dredges of her past and pursue her dream of being the next musical sensation. The public cries out for real music, something that isn’t processed and manufactured for mindless consumption... or so she thinks. A year has passed since Delancey’s “debut”, and all she has to show for it are three gigs at empty bars and a water bottle jingle.    Wavering from her convictions has never been Delancey’s style. But when a one-off submission to Stairway to Stardom nets her a live audition, she can’t help but be intrigued. It’s almost everything Delancey hates, but if it’s for a chance to grasp at the one thing she loves, contrived TV drama and hot guys won’t stand in her way.
Bright neon lights sear FIREY EMBLEMS: GACHA GACHA GO!! into your vision.
Some of you find yourselves dressed in very familiar clothes: the ones you have worn most throughout the war back home, though the quality leaves much to be desired. The castle you’re in—no, it’s not a castle at all, but even you could have been fooled. People buzz around the set with props and papers in hand, frantically getting everything into place. “Look here,” one woman says to you, pulling your chin forward and brushing rouge onto your cheeks. A man, holding a contraption similar to what the Projector brought to the Ethereal Ball, roams through your group, capturing images of all of you. “C’mon girls, give me something!”
One woman’s voice rises through the din of a production in motion: “Firey Emblems! Your spirit shall shine...!”
"One, two, three—”
A band begins playing behind you. The massive audience before you erupts in perfectly-timed applause, smiling widely at all of you. Some of you have ended up here, sitting under hot lights and with strange contraptions pointed directly at you, following your every move. A trap? But everyone seems to be having a fun time. Everyone, that is, save for the one unfamiliar face in your ragtag group who is looking quite sullen.
“...That interview was a disaster. The quiz show will be even worse...”
What you know:
You’ve all been thrown into grand productions and have absolutely no idea what is going on. You are here. There is no escape from what lies ahead.
Nanna, Ingrid, Elincia, Letizia, and Edelgard are all on the set of an upcoming Firey Emblems: Gacha Gacha Go!! commercial featuring the stars of the newest season of Stairway to Stardom. They have all been dressed in the appropriate fashion, thankfully in clothes that look familiar to you, but you’ve heard whispers of more costumes...
There is a sixth member in your group, Delancey, belting out notes on the set.
Meanwhile, Laslow, Yuri, Shez (M), Azama, and Merric all swelter under the shining stage lights of The Kinda-Late Show with Ryan Schuyler. All of you are dressed in tight suits, each of you in a different corresponding color. You can see a busty woman lurking behind stage, watching you, pinching the bridge of her nose at you.
Behind you, a large screen looms overheard with all of your pictures and names displayed. Laslow, Yuri, Shez, Azama, Merric... and Julian, the grump spelling your doom.
What to do (suggestions):
Fake it till you make it, baby!!

[ 🧱 ] how would you describe your muses’ morality? what are their core values?
prompts i'd like to receive
i don’t know that i know the correct terms to describe veronica’s morality, but i’ll do my best to be concise in my explanation regardless.
so! for one, i think veronica’s morality is very much still in its development stages. her conscience has only recently begun forming; if her actions in the first book are any indication, she seems to act on the whims of her curse. she thinks killing is fun because it tells her it is. she doesn’t have the grasp on what’s right and wrong like she does right now. she’s only doing things because she’s told to, or because it’ll sate her boredom.
it isn’t until seth goes off on her (which is hilarious btw. seth asking a 12-13 year old why she’s acting childish will never not be iconic) that she realizes the extent of what she’s doing. it’s through that moment that she has a bit of an epiphany and realizes what a ‘good’ ruler is.
it takes a while to fully develop. of course it does; it’s not like people change overnight. hence why i say it’s still in its developing stages, because she’s still trying to figure it out. (plus veronica has the privilege of being a recurring character and, thus, the privilege of long-term development LMFAO so she doesn’t have to speedrun a dramatic character arc like the rest of those poor lot)
so that’s her morality! as for her core values, i could boil them down to this:
the people she loves are what matter most. whether it be the citizens of the emblian empire, her brother, xander, letizia, even the askrans. whatever happens to her is of little consequence, so long as she doesn’t lose the people she loves. i’ve touched on veronica’s self-sacrificial tendencies a bit in that post about her empathy, but i’ll go into more detail here: veronica doesn’t care about what happens to her. when push comes to shove, she doesn’t care about her wellbeing, or who she’s allying with. so long as she thinks it’ll be to the benefit of the emblian empire (and of the people she cares for, but shhh that’s not a conscious instinct for her), she does it.
it’s the reason why she allies with surtr in book 2. or why she allies with the askrans in books 3,5, and 6. (i don’t know if book 4 counts since it was ~all a dream~ but there’s instances of her helping them there too)
and it’s the reason why she’s so willing to sacrifice herself instead of letting bruno risk his life. why she turns herself in during book 6 despite knowing that it would lead to her execution. hell, she even works for hel because she wants to save her brother. bottom line is: she’ll do it if it’ll save the people she cherishes. whether or not it’s the right or wrong thing doesn’t matter much to her; whether or not it kills her (or even other people tbh, so long as she doesn’t care about them...) doesn’t matter to her. her desire to not lose her loved ones is at the core of her belief system, and it’s what drives a lot of her actions.

“im a fashion designer who started my interest in fashion through royals. but after a year i started following REAL fashion weeks and boy it is nothing like royals. i mean they are influential and look neat and put together but calling them "fashion icons" is doing a massive disservice to everyone in real fashion. most royals except maybe letizia just play it safe and dont deserve to be called fashion icons.” - Submitted by Anonymous
