Peredhel biology is interesting. They can become mortal or immortal; and it's not entirely clear what the "default" setting is. Is it even the same for all half-elves? What are the implications of being part-elf and part-man? And that's not even getting into the part-Maiarin or pseudo-Maiarin(? Earendil?) Peredhel. There are a lot of really interesting ideas and interpretations there, but I'd like to share a few I've been wanting to write about:
The Peredhel choice is a myth; whether half-elves become mortal or immortal is baked into their biology. Because of the nature of twins, one will always be mortal and one will always be immortal. (I'm mostly thinking about the implications for Elrond and Elros here because I don't even want to consider what that would mean for Elladan and Elrohir)
Peredhel have the strange ability to "mimic" those around them; they appear more elvish amongst elves and more mannish amongst men. No one really knows how they do this, but it's led to lots of stories about "changelings."
Actually, lots of Peredhel have weird, vaguely mystical abilities. Think about the kind of things you'd read about in a fairytale- speaking to animals, unusual strength, preternatural charm. These things aren't unheard of amongst elves or men, but they're a lot more common amongst Peredhel. It's suspected to be some sort of Ainuric boon, or possibly a result of half-elven souls being more "flexible."
Because their souls are inherently kind of unstable, Peredhel fade more easily then elves. That being said, the "symptoms" of fading are different (elves will literally become translucent, while half-elves will lose weight, sleep for most of the day and still be tired, etc.), so it's often assumed to be a normal mortal illness until it becomes a life-threatening situation.
Ulmo has kind of adopted the Peredhel as his people. He's their patron, and he cares for them all. Many half-elves live or work near or on the ocean, and for those who are immortal, the desire to sail west generally manifests less as wanting to go to Valinor and more a literal desire to go to the sea. Half-elves who are inclined to pray usually do so to Ulmo. There's a reason that Rivendell is protected by a river. Also, yes, Earendil is still absolutely Ulmo's guy, he's just also Varda's guy. They have a very friendly custody agreement.

Okay now things I loved about this season:
- The pinning, I love pinning I can’t even deny it, so I was just eating it up.
- I looooved the kiss in ep4 and the before of it, Wille telling Simon that he gets he isn’t in love with him anymore and Simon being so shaken that Wille thought that, that he just goes to search for him.
- Like Simon is pretty self-righteous sometimes (it’s a strength and a weaknesses of his character imo) so for him to be so consumed in his love and want for Wille that he leaves his sorta boyfriend and cheats on him, it had to be a pretty big emotion.
- I loved seeing Wille be jealous lol sorry I think it suits him.
- I loved how OBVIOUS it was that Wille and Simon were still in love with one another, like I didn’t doubt it for one second, even with other love interests, and I love that they made sure we saw it all the time.
- I LOVED seeing more of Ayub and Rosh and their friendship with Simon.
- I loved Simon be adamant in pressing charges against August, again he is self-righteous.
- I liked the invert dynamic of Simon being the one who kissed Wille in a moment of weakness and then saying it was a mistake, a parallel of Wille when he did the same to him in ep3 of s1.
- I loved that scene of Wille and Simon describing the book to each other and essentially defending the other point of view, basically showing that they understood where the other was coming from.
- The whole fish motif was great, Marcus asking their names and Simon saying they don’t have any.
- Again, I would update this when i remember more things lmao

being Boy Best Friends means not committing to physical intimacy but being literally soulmates to each other, care deeply for each other doing everything one should do with their romantic partner.
being Girl Best Friends otherwise is meaning actually committing to physical and sexual intimacy but denying or not having mental intimacy, even thought having a close long lasting relationship in the past.

I'm playing botw again and I have to say that the voice acting really ruined any interest I might have had in the story - to me, the voice acting and memories portion (all those cutscenes) really detracted from the storytelling it could have had and thinking about it is boiling my onions again! More below @ w @;;
I've been going off on this to my friend (bless her patience) and at first I thought "I don't know if I like the story?" but then I realized that I would probably enjoy the story and characters if I got to read it instead of listening to the voice acting.
I know my opinion is largely influenced by playing lots of the older games, and I really enjoyed reading about the story here and there, and having a sort of "less is more" approach where there is So Much room to sort of inject your own thoughts and feelings into the stories and the characters.
It's too bad because objectively, Zelda's story is interesting in this game - a young girl struggling with her duty and responsibility, exasperated by being unable to access her power while the whole world is counting on her (this is great stuff) - but the way it is delivered (through all the cutscenes and the voice acting) makes me absolutely not care at all about it. I am so sad that I am so angry at how much I dislike Zelda in this game, which totally bums me out!! ; w ;
And it really has to do with just how they handled the story telling in this - which was a neat, different way to do it (and a lot of people really loved it, which is great)! But honestly I feel like not having ANY of the memory portions in the game (and no voice acting please) would have made it SO much more compelling and interesting. Letting your audience piece together the narrative of these champions that Link can't remember from the people that were left behind. It's SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING!
I think it's just the classic move where so much media treats their audience like they're idiots and nothing is FURTHER from the truth! The excitement of storytelling comes from leaving space for the audience's imagination! It helps enrich the soup! Stop clogging it with so many potatoes!! 😭👏✨✨✨

my thoughts on burning shores if anyone was interested (spoilers obvs, also loooooong, so long and rambling, don’t feel like you need to read it lol):
first of all - that final fight with the horus was EPIC. i LOVED the multiple sections that basically take you through all the game mechanics - stealth, ranged, climbing, swimming, platforming - all just really cool. SO AMAZING and FUCKING CREEPY to see a horus crawling/walking around. also props to sam witwer to being a great over-the-top villian lol. the final fight with londra in the head section felt a bit cramped and it took me a few cycles to understand what to do (like it took me too long to realize i could shoot the mines yikes i’m dumb) but once i did i liked the design of it. (although i felt aloy should have been more terrified of the horus waking up? she and seyka seemed pretty chill and jokey throughout the whole thing considering the situation - i feel like she should have been more scared, at least at first?)
second of all, little complaint - the sounds of the waterwing are EXCRUCIATING to me. really, honestly awful. well not from a sound design perspective, they're fine as... sounds... just not sounds i have to listen to frequently. but i'm very sensitive to noise and i have misophonia, so... maybe that's why. i wish it would just stop making noises. so many noises. all the time. in my mind steve (my sunwing) flew off to hang out with some burning shores sunwings and the moment i go back to a sunwing site i will recognize him and override him again and then we will go back to adventuring together and i will abandon the waterwing unless i need one again. also they added a noise to the barrel roll on the sunwing and that is not cool, don't like, i would like steve to be quiet(er) again pls.
third, an issue - i can't complete cauldron theta because every time i kill the bilegut my game crashes. TT-TT i go through the whole fight, aloy says "it's done!" and the game closes and i get an error. i have fought that bastard three times now and i WILL NOT be doing it again until i have reason to believe it’s fixed lol. the rest of the cauldron was pretty cool tho!
other things:
GILDUN! OMG. i loved that whole quest. i felt bad but i listened to all his commentary behind the door before opening it :D i also felt bad because he's so friendly and optimistic and his delving partner was a jerk, and while i didn't want to lie to him i chose the heart option for aloy's response, and i don't think i could choose the others. and he gets a focus and a hug! AHHHHHH it was great. you’re our friend gildun! (i did get him talking on aloy's focus once when i went back to the main game, so i wonder if there will be random comments like that sometimes? v cool)
NORA LOOKOUT ARMOR! holy crap i forgive them for not giving us the banuk sickness eater bc i did not expect to get the lookout. AMAZING. i will have to do a run with her wearing the lookout the whole time. the quen armors are pretty great too (and lots of dyes, but still only four dyes for the oseram armors? like, why? why didn't the oseram armor get the ng+ dye? WHY GUERRILLA)
ZENITH WEAPON! i was ambivalent about this idea before bc i wasn't sure how zenith weapons would work with the others we have, but i honestly love it. i also like the little clinky noise it makes when she puts it on/stows it :D some of the new weapons (like the shredder) in hfw felt kind of ratchet-and-clank-y, which i loved bc i *adored* r&c growing up. the zenith gauntlet also feels a bit like r&c and i’m digging it. now aloy just needs a topiary sprinkler lolololol (just kidding).
ZENITH FACEPAINTS! ok i would not wear these full time but they are honestly beautiful with the gold. also didn't expect these. and some new quen ones and the new valor surge one and the pangaea one. (are there more? i haven’t finished the delver’s trinkets or the aerial vantage points) i have my work cut out for me for my facepaint series!
i'm... not sure how i feel about aloy and seyka. as an ace girl who was hoping (however foolishly and vainly) for at least the choice of ace girl rep in aloy, it didn’t hit for me the way i’m sure they wanted it to. (i realize she still could be ace, just not aro, but to me it didn’t feel like they were telling an ace story, if that makes sense.) and i like seyka but she wasn't as immediately endearing to me as many of the other side characters - altho maybe my opinion will change on a second playthrough.
but i *am* glad that aloy is 1) letting herself be emotional/vulnerable around others 2) is more relaxed and happy after hfw’s whole story and 3) actually voiced aloud how her early life as an outcast impacted her ability to form friendships. (or wait... was that only in the brain flashpoint dialogue, which is the one i picked? idk) so anyway not mad about it even if i wasn’t really feeling it, and i’m happy for the ppl who wanted aloy to be canonically into the ladies. (which imo it always seemed like she was)
the map is beautiful and the clouds are too. the sky in the new map omg!!! the color of the sky/clouds is definitely unique from any of the other areas. it does feel a biiiiiit too bright in places tho. several times the environment or aloy was completely blown out, highlights-wise. i didn’t change any settings on my game or tv from before, so i don’t feel like it’s on my end, but maybe i need to check.
speaking of sky have you flown up into the cloud layer? like it's a small thing i guess but it is BEAUTIFUL, it literally looks like one of the luminist paintings they said they were inspired by, but it's 3d. so, so pretty.
i did feel it was a bit short/fast especially compared to how the frozen wilds felt, but i may have just rushed it bc i was able to sit down and binge and i wanted to avoid spoilers.
why no tallneck? :( the frozen wilds tallneck was so great...
the jurassic park references made me laugh :D
the whole thing londra was doing to the quen, and the conversation with nova, was extra gross and creepy. also i thought we'd get nova as an AI ally like CYAN but oh well.
again the horus fight was amazing 10/10 boss fight v cool. the only thing i would have added was somehow shooting from the waterwing before gliding down to the ground. with two riders one can shoot and one can steer right?
but the side quest with the three waterwings on the island? HHHHHOLY fuck that was annoying. i used practically all my resources to kill those bastards. "weak to fire" my ass. they have like mile-wide aoe attacks and they are FAST and i kept missing their bodies while my ammo was going through their wings... super, super annoying, did not like, 0/10.
i hope they un-mirror the ammo selection, i was constantly picking the wrong arrows lol.
i walked up on some sandpipers on a beach and i scared them off and it was so REAL i just stood there and watched them fly away. and then they landed further down and started doing their little sandpiper-y thing again. SO COOL.
LEGENDARY SPIKE THROWER WITH DRILL SPIKES! thank u gildun i love it and will cherish it forever.
i'm not sure about the aerial vantage points (whatever they're called) bc i haven't finished them yet but the ones i have done are more emotionally along the lines of the original vantage points, so that's cool.
i did the stormbird in the cloud before i had the waterwing override and the stormbird KILLED STEVE so i reloaded a previous save where steve was alive and waited to do that until i was riding a (super-noisy and annoying) waterwing lol.
i am SAD that all our companions have left the main map. :( i mean they didn't do anything besides stand there in the same spots but... they were there...
sylens, ahhhhhh. that final convo made me tear up a little. i wish aloy had said something before she walked away, even a sarcastic "thanks" would have felt better imo. he didn't see her smile and he didn't hear the comment she made later. just considering the real-world stuff with lance reddick, oof.
also, visiting varl’s grave T_T
aaaaaaanyway i personally felt it was *well* worth $20 and i’m sooooooo excited to see what guerrilla does in the future!

I feel like the swimming pool and football field at Greendale should've been utilised more in the series for so many other scenarios and shenanigans at the college.
Like maybe the Dean had a annual swimming gala and has Jeffery swim in fucking trunks or even a speedo bc he's the Dean and have you seen Jeffery's abs?? And then Troy and Abed get into synchronised swimming bc that's them and they get to the finals of the gala. and maybe P*erce gets pushed off the diving board and Shirley gasps. Maybe Annie making cardboard signs with glitter and glue to cheer on Jeff, Troy and Abed. and Britta? I actually don't know... And Chang has decided to enter the gala too and actually wins bc he displays such a performance that brings tears to everyone's eyes (i bet he does a routine to Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive', don't ask me how I just envision it)
But with the football field, how about the group goes and cheers on Troy at one of his games? They're all wearing Greendale colors/scarves/hats/face paint. Britta is talking about the toxic masculinity of mens sports and the fragility of mens egos, maybe getting high under the bleachers. Jeff is on his phone 'texting' with Duncan talking about the differences between American and UK sport next to him but then ventures off to get high with Britta bc he can't stand a second longer and they have a bonding session about how stupid chasing a ball is. Annie has learnt football chants and is shouting them out like she's a hooligan. Abed is the commentator for the game and makes sure to analyse every movement and make snips about the opposing team whilst saying cute compliments about his boyfriend. Shirley is serving out her sandwiches around to the spectators on the bleachers. The Dean is in a fucking dalmatian costume as the mascot. and Chang is playing his keytar, doing a mini concert during the cheer section at half time (or whatever happens during American football lol I left before I could witness a game RIP)
I just wish we could've seen more outside of the building for Greendale like we did in s1.

I was wondering you know, Jon's "love is the death of duty" has been to destroy the neutrality of an 8000 year old institute and then subsequently getting killed for it.
I wonder if Arya would have one too...a few years ago there had been a fandom discussion of, if/when the faceless man let Arya go unharmed-would they do it at a 'cost'? Like their whole motto is to preserve the sanctity of death. And while the ice wights are a negation of that sanctity, fire wights ( people brought back by rh'llor) are too.
So would the FM ever ask Arya to kill Jon as the "payment" ? ( even though they don't send people after a person they personally know)
And would Arya's refusal be her own "love is the death of duty".

The dynamics with ex-lover F are so interesting because on the one hand, my MC will never trust them with his heart again, but on the other hand he won't let his personal feelings/beef get in the way of his ruling and F's goals are as noble as his and they both will work together to improve the country and, given enough time to process/heal, will rebuild their friendship and make it as strong as before.
But there will always be that tiny abandonment issue that follows on the current relationship with MC feeling insecure and inadequate and a bit too eager to please because they fear, no matter how much they rationalize it or are assured by the RO they are enough and that they won't leave, that one little argument or outside cause will be all it takes for RO to leave. And that's something F and MC are both forced to carry the rest of their lives.
And that's fascinating and so, so heartbreaking
And that's fascinating and so, so heartbreaking
And that's exactly what I'm going for with this game and the revelations that are to come <3
But yes, I think the dynamics are also interesting because every MC is going to have a different path and feelings and scars from all of this and that adds soooo many layers.

In your opinion do you think Eddie would of every got on with Steve’s friends (ie Tommy and Carol) or the other way around (Steve get on with hellfire)?
I have this idea in my head that Eddie and Carol would of been like arguing children 24/7, arguing about each others looks or hobbies or anything they can pick at each other for. I can see Eddie constantly pretending to fight her whilst she rolls her eyes and mocks him. Those kinda friends that hate each other so publicly but are sort of lost when the other isn’t there.
in another world, yes. i've written eddie and carol interacting once in a fic and it was something like that.
Carol pokes her head in. "Room for one more?"
"Not on your life." Steve says, and Tommy just gives him a look.
"Quit being a bitch, Harrington. C'mere, babe." Tommy pats his lap and Carol climbs in, clambers onto Tommy's lap and nearly elbows Eddie in the face in the process.
"Watch your wings, Carol."
"Bite me."
the way i write carol, i think she would be wary of eddie - because she wouldn't know how to hurt eddie's feelings, or even mock him in a way that would actually bother him. but eddie would be able to get under her skin pretty easily. carol relies on a pretty cut-and-dry social hierarchy and eddie doesn't play into it the same way.
but idk, if they grew up a bit and they had steve in common? i think they'd probably be amicable. carol's wariness would morph into like... carefully disguised fondness. and i think eddie would be in the same boat. i write carol as being quick-witted and i think eddie would appreciate that.
it's harder to see tommy and eddie getting along. i think it would all happen with gritted teeth and a "do it for steve" mentality.
i haven't written the hellfire bunch all that much (other than jeff i think). i don't think i saw enough of them to like... get a sense of how they are as individuals. the one time i wrote about jeff, i gave him a gf and i think that's cute. i could see it like - jeff gets a gf, eddie complains about it non-stop to steve because jeff's missing dnd sessions, getting distracted. and gets thoroughly annoyed when steve sides with jeff instead of him.
eddie being melodramatic about it like "it's me against the world" and steve is like "really, the world?"
