Summary: Jungkook was a hopeless romantic believing in love at first sight- and then there was you, a bunny experiencing the tiny treasures of life for the first time. Together, with him.
Tumblr media
It's busy in Jungkooks apartment- something thats unusual, considering that technically, the young man lives alone, doesn't really fuck around, and works at home as well ever since he took on the job as a web-designer. There was no reason to cause such an amount of stress in his home- other than the simple fact of his best friend currently pacing around, steps so fast and hard that Jungkook scared his flooring would soon melt underneath the older ones shoes he didn't take off in a rush. There were bags on his couch, bags on his counter, and a backpack somewhere in his living room- all because of;
"Okay so, she's okay with eating almost everything BUT!" Taehyung holds his finger up as if he's lecturing a child in front of him- which he's not, Jungkook is a full grown adult at this point, and looks at him unimpressed with furrowed brows as his older friend lists up things he needs to keep in mind for the hybrid he's looking after for the day. "Please make sure she's hydrated, she tends to forget to drink during the day. If she does and gets a headache there's medication in the bag that I've put on the couch- you've seen it right? Should I show you again?" He stresses, and Jungkook holds his friend's shoulders for a moment.
"Can you like, breathe for a moment please?" He says, and Taehyung nods, following the instructions for a moment before Jungkook continues. "Okay great. Now that you're not hyperventilating anymore I can tell you that yes, I've seen the bag-" He says, pointing towards the couch that's littered with so many things it seems like he's giving the hybrid up for adoption today instead of just dropping her off until tomorrow. "Second of all, I've taken care of Yoongi before and he's still alive, what's so different? Just because she's a bunny- or was it hare- wait is there a difference..?" Jungkook drawls off, suddenly thinking and not quite remembering if he's ever quite asked himself the difference of these two things. Taehyung however seems offended by that.
"Jungkook, she's a BUNNY, not a hare! That's a HUGE difference!" He whines out, and Jungkook looks at him a bit sheepish, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "Oh god maybe I shouldn't go, this is a bad idea.." He says, already taking out his phone to cancel the date he has tonight, but jungkook holds the elders friend before he can make that mistake. Taehyung was a busy man, running a hybrid rehabilitation center in Seoul and Daegu- while talking to Busan's department for partnership. He really loves his job- but sometimes he gets too invested in it, just like now. He's finally got a date for himself after years of being alone; but he almost shot the poor woman down when he remembered that you, a newly rescued hybrid was staying at his home- something he never did before. Sure, he had taken over the rehabilitation of hybrids before, but he had never ever taken a case home with him. But after meeting you, seeing you, and knowing what you've been put through, his heart simply couldn't leave you at the shelter- even though he knew that it was probably the best place to be for you. But he had done what he had done now- there was no turning back with you. He couldn't leave you alone yet, so Jungkook had volunteered to look after you for the day and night, until Taehyung would pick you up the next day. The younger one had always looked after Yoongi, a cat hybrid later on adopted by Jung Hoseok, a friend of both of them; so he personally felt good about taking you in.
It was just for a day- what could go wrong?
"Come on, don't you trust me? Or is she like, super aggressive or something?" Jungkook asks, and Taehyung sighs. He hasn't told the younger one much about you, believing it was bad karma to talk about others when they weren't present. Yet this time he'd have to make an exception- because Jungkook needed to know at least some things about you and where you came from. Everything else would be unfair.
Taehyung sighed. "She's a category 3, so she's still recovering from her past home. She's just.. super shy and timid, and gets scared pretty easily so, I'm just terrified Jungkook. I know you don't want to cause any harm, but what if something happens and she just falls back? She's come so far these days, you should've seen her when I got her.." He said, and Jungkook looked at him- the eyes of the younger serious, reminding Taehyung that deep inside, he was more than just a schoolfriend. "When she got to me, she didn't even know how to use cutlery Kook. She.." But Jungkook smiled, placing a hand to his friend's shoulder in reassurance.
"I get it. I'll do my best, okay?" He says. "I promise I'll call you as soon as something's up, okay?" He says, and Taehyung nods. With a small wave he leaves the apartment to pick you up from the shelter- and Jungkook, in exchange, began to rummage through the plastic bags Taehyung had dumped onto his couch.
He was familiar with hybrids to some degree- he never really had owned one, and neither did his family. He knew that his brother owned a dog hybrid, but he had yet to bring him to family gatherings; Jungkook had never seen the puppy hybrid himself. His parents however said that she was nice, and Jungkook never really had any bad experiences with them. He sometimes visited Taehyung at work and conversed with some of the more chatty hybrids.
He was familiar with caring for them to some degree. As already stated before, he'd looked after 'grumpy-cat' Yoongi a lot back in the days when he was still in the center for rehabilitation. Jungkook knew about their different preferences in food, and their different behaviors. He, sadly, also knew about the mistreatment most of the hybrids went through before getting to the center into Taehyungs and his Staff's care- and he always hated it. The stories he sometimes heard made him sleepless during the night, made him research donation websites just to cleanse his mind for the moment.
But it only ever lasted until the next case would turn up at Taehyung's doorstep.
Tumblr media
Quite frankly, Jungkook didn't know what he'd expected. After all, he'd never seen you in person, he simply went after Taehyungs description of you, but what was now standing at his door, was something that erased any thought he may had prior to opening it.
You were so.. delicate? Cute? He's never used the word 'cute' for a person before, because he simply thought aegyo and all of that was something girls put up for a facade of innocence. He hated that with a passion, cringing any time he saw it- yet there was, in his opinion, no other word that described you better. You were just as shy as Taehyung said, yet you forced yourself to bow a little as a greeting, taking a small step back however when Jungkook snapped out of his thoughts and opened the door fully to step aside. He threw a smile your way, hoping it could ease your nerves a little- and it seemed to work, because he saw your lips turn a bit upwards into a shy smile.
He felt as if he'd just won a ranked overwatch match against the seoul dynasty.
"Okay, I'm gonna pick you up tomorrow ASAP, okay? Are you gonna be fine here?" Taehyung asked you, and you looked over his shoulder- your bright eyes meeting Jungkooks, who was leaning against his kitchen counter, smiling boyishly while waving a little. It made you feel okay; he seemed nice enough, and after all, any friend of Taehyungs was a friend of yours. He'd taught you that. So you nodded, and Taehyung smiled, patting your head for a moment, your ears flopping to the sides before standing upright again after his hand left you. He waved goodbye and seemed a bit reluctant to leave- but you knew that Taehyung was excited for his date. He'd talked about nothing else these past days, and it made you happy to see him so giddy over something.
"So." Jungkook started, his voice fitting him, you thought. He looked fit, and comfortable to you- his oversized sweater probably big enough for you to hide in. Wait- what was that thought?! You averted your eyes immediately, ears shyly drooping backwards as you began to shuffle your fluffy socks on his wooden floor, the laminate suddenly super interesting. "Taehyung said you should have a nice healthy dinner- but I may forgot to buy groceries, so, is it okay for you to tag along?" He asked. "You can choose what you want to eat while we're at it, too." He said, and you perked up at that.
"I can?" You asked, ears slowly moving into a more confident position again, and he smiled at that achievement.
"Sure!" He exclaimed, and walked towards the door, grabbing his jacket, before he looked at you. You were staring at something- and as he followed your gaze, he saw your shoes. Simple sneakers in colors that fit your current clothes, but, was he connecting the dots correctly? He didn't want to offend you in case you were simply deep in thought, so he simply waited, slipping on his own shoes, as he watched you out of the corner of his eyes.
You really were struggling to tie your shoes.
So he simply sat down on the small step that divided his entrance from the rest of his apartment, and tapped the top of his knee. "Come here, I'll help." He said, and your eyes widened, shaking your head.
"I'll- I'll get your pants dirty.." You said worriedly, but Jungkook shook his head again.
"Don't worry about that." He said, and you hesitantly placed your shoe on his knee with just the very tip- something that made him smile a bit before he placed it down properly, tying the laces quickly.
"Sorry." You apologized, but he shook his head yet again as he tied the other.
"It's fine." He simply said, before you both got up, going outside. "Do you, uhm.." He began, nervously picking on the slight fuzz of his skin against his chin before he finished, by holding his hand out. "You know, so you don't, accidentally get lost or something. Taehyung would kill me." He laughed, and you blushed, before hesitantly taking his larger hand, holding it as he walked to the nearby grocery store with you.
Inside, it was busy as usual- but Taehyung typically didn't take you out during these hours, something about you maybe becoming overloaded by sensations and sounds. You've never been to a grocery like this before though- because while yes, it was a lot, Jungkooks hand never left yours even for a second. He calmly explained things you seemed interested in, and his entire presence calmed you down, even though you didn't really know him at all.
But your instincts were telling you that he was a good person; and until now, they had never been wrong.
"So, which one do you like?" He asked, pulling you from your thoughts as you were drifting off a little. He smiled at you, while you were looking at the shelves, pointing towards a pack of ramen. You've never tried it, but you had been interested when you saw them at Taehyungs place once or twice- however, back then you had been too shy to ask if you could maybe try it sometimes. "Hmm.. you sure about this one? It's pretty spicy sweetheart." He said, letting the petname slip as your ear flinched a bit into his direction, eyes widening a bit. Taehyung sometimes called you sweetheart as well- but somehow, in some weird way, it made you feel all tingly inside hearing it from Jungkook. "Uhm.. maybe, I can buy this one, and this chicken flavoured one- you can taste mine, and if you like it, we can switch. Okay?" He explained, and you nodded, not really listening anymore as you looked at him with an almost fascinated expression.
Taehyung had told you he had never truly taken care of a female hybrid, let alone a rehab-case such as you were. But he seemed so nice, so sweet, it was hard to imagine him not owning a hybrid- or being single. While Taehyung had never outright said that Jungkook was, you assumed so by the hints you noticed here and there. No other scent than his in his home, and you also remember Taehyung teasing the younger yesterday over the phone, saying something that at least Taehyung was getting himself some dating action.
For some weird reason, knowing that Jungkook didn't have a partner made you feel nice.
But then you remembered his words. "But- what will you eat if I eat yours?" You ask, and he shrugs.
"We'll simply switch then. I don't mind." He says, placing both packs in the shopping cart as you watched him. Your old home hadn't been too kind to you, yet you still didn't know anything else than the treatment you got back there. It was still new to you how easy going some people were, how much freedom you actually had. You've seen kids on swings last week, and a girl feeding a stray cat in an alleyway. Those were things you've never seen before.
"Okay, now the fun part." He says, and you look up at him, his head nodding towards something specific.
Icecream.
Your eyes widened seeing all the different packages and flavours, making your ears droop a bit in confusion. You were lost; what should you choose? You didn't know any of these except some flavors Taehyung had at his house. Jungkook, already connecting the dots, opens one of the doors. "Do you like fruity things? I personally like mild flavors, like vanilla." He says, picking a box of two separate containers. "How about this one?" He asks, and you nod excitedly.
"Yes please.!" You say, pretty much vibrating on the spot as Jungkook places the box into the cart, making an elderly lady next to the two of you chuckle.
"So sweet. And great manners too!" She says, before a hybrid walks up to her; his bright orange badge showing that the dog hybrid was a service worker. "Take good care of her, young man, yes?" She says, and Jungkook nods, squeezing your hand a little tighter as you both watch the lady getting escorted towards the cashiering section.
Jungkook had honestly never really thought about taking care of his own hybrid. He always worried that his friend's teasing was actually real- that he was too immature to quite take care of another living being except his own. Depp down he knew of course that he was capable of that, but insecurities sometimes still bit at his soul from the inside. He couldn't do much about that- he was a hopeless person in that department; still believing in love at first sight, and that human-hybrid relationships are nothing weird. He secretly loved romantic dramas, read shōjo mangas at the bookstore whenever he was too scared to buy them- afraid of being teased for it. He hated perfumes, enjoyed soft smells and fabrics, and even knew how to braid hair. He may looked like a typical muscle-head; with nothing filling his brain apart from protein powder and the need to work out and survive off of energy drinks and leftover cup noodles, but that wasn't really who he was. He simply liked to take care of himself, nothing more. He didn't work out for anyone but himself.
For some reason he enjoyed taking care of you like this. You were so sweet, so cute, that he couldn't help but already feel a little protective of you- that fact having only little to do with Taehyung. Maybe he simply needed a small push into the right direction to finally experience what it was like to have a hybrid, to test out what it was like to live with one.
But he didn't just want a hybrid, he noticed as he watched you carefully place the items of the shopping cart on the cash register, just like he'd asked you to do-
He wanted you.
Tumblr media
He could feel someone staring at him. It was like it was piercing his neck, like laser dots on his skin, and it should freak him out like nothing else if it wasn't for the fact that he knew it couldn't be any other than you. He looked at the pot he was putting water in, the reflection showing your form sneakily watching him from the entrance of the kitchen. He chuckled. "Hm.." He began, dramatically sighing. "I wish there was a certain sweet bunny hybrid here to help me cook.. but I guess she's too busy.." He hummed, as he made sure the water in the pot was enough for one pack, before he turned around, your form now standing a few steps behind him. "Oh?" He said, acting surprised as you shyly smiled.
"Can I help.?" You asked, and he nodded, patting the counter to which you walked, squeaking cutely as he simply turned you around with gentle hands, lifting you up to sit between the stove on one side, and the sink on the other. You'd somehow come to the conclusion already that he was quite strong- but the short taste you got of his strength made your heart race a little. It was instinctively, really; your kind looked for partners with certain attributes, after all. They were supposed to protect you and your offspring at some point- even though that part made you look at your knees in shame, before Jungkook snapped you out of your thoughts before they could sway.
"Can you open the packages for me?" He asks, and you nod, taking them out of his hands and opening the foil carefully. You take out the still hard noodles before the flavor pack falls out, slapping on the floor as it falls down out of your hand. Jungkook however doesn't scold you- simply picks it up and gives it to you, and you look at him for a moment- watching him for any indication that he's mad. But he's not.
It's as if nothing had happened.
So you put the flavor pack and tiny oil package on top of the noodle blocks, so carefully Jungkook has to force himself not to just simply scream from how concentrated you look doing something so simple. "When the water boils, like, when it bubbles a lot, you can put these packs in, alright?" He says, and you nod, as if he's giving you instructions on how to prepare for war. He can't help himself at that moment, grinning so hard his dimples show as he reaches out to pet your head.
It's a little like Taehyung, but it feels a lot different.
With Taehyung, while you do feel safe and comfortable around him, and it feels nice, it's not at all like Jungkook. The younger one makes your heart race. He makes your pride swell, and your eyes sparkle- it's as if you've been given an award for the greatest achievement ever. You almost whine when he lets go.
So you later on put the packs into the boiling water with so much precision, immediately seeking his approval right after, to which he smiles at you. "Good job, Bunny." He says, and pets your head, absentmindedly moving the palm of his hand from the top of your head to instead cradle your cheek. Its such a soft and gentle touch that you almost go limp- closing your eyes and leaning into it. He only notices that when he looks back from the pots- now turned down a bit to a simmer as to not overcook- and his heart surely bursts in that moment.
You look so.. there's no word in Jungkooks head to properly describe the view he has, that image of you in front of him. He can't help himself- begins to trace his thumb against the soft skin, watching your ears relax and flop down. He can't imagine that someone like you could ever be done harm to; and while he doesn't know much about your past, he's sure it hadn't been pretty. It makes him want to just keep you right here, in his apartment, close to him, where he can make sure no one could ever cause you to be upset.
Both of you are abruptly pulled out of your thoughts by his phone ringing, the device so badly placed that it falls down to the floor after vibrating a few seconds. "Fuck!" He exclaims, picking it up and sighing in relief when it turns out to still be without damage. He takes on the call, and on the other side of the line, is Taehyung. He greets his younger friend, instantly asking him if you're okay- if you've eaten yet, drank anything, if you're homesick- all in one breath, it seems. Jungkook chuckles, simply placing a hand on your knee, thumb again tracing a pattern he's unsure of what its supposed to be. The warmth seeps into your skin through the fabric of your clothing. He smiles at you, and for the first time, maybe because you're feeling so.. smitten with him, you smile back. Not just a shy little lift of your lips, but a full on beaming smile, making his hand reach out to brush along your ear- internally gasping at how soft the fur is. How can something be this soft?! "Taehyung, she's fine. We're making ramen right now, she helped me cook, and afterwards we're gonna have icecream and watch a movie or something." He explains, and Taehyung claps back with something along the lines of 'but don't let her have the spicy stuff, she can't handle that-' but the younger one doesn't listen that much anymore. "Yeah yeah, listen, we're fine. Go get your girl, jesus." He laughs, and Taehyung chuckles as well, hanging up after reminding him to get you to bed at a reasonable time- as if you're a child he's taking care of.
Because that's the thing. You're not a child- and in Jungkooks eyes, you're not a pet. You're so sweet and easily interested in the simplest of things, he can't help but wonder if you had any hobbies. Did you like video games? Or drawing? Were you into books- hell, could you even read? He wanted to know so much more about you than just those tiny breadcrumbs of info he had gotten from Taehyung. He dearly hoped that maybe, maybe you would like to see him again after leaving tomorrow. He really hoped.
And as you ate, shaking your head at Jungkooks spicy ramen after tasting the broth a little from his spoon (which he did make sure to blow on as to not have you burn your tongue, bless his heart), he really did hope.
He really hoped that maybe, you felt just as happy around him as he felt around you.
Tumblr media
It seemed that going grocery shopping, cooking, and eating icecream had taken its toll on you. Your eyes were practically falling shut every few seconds, yet you tried to stay awake as much as possible. Jungkook smiled at you, brushing some hair back before he moved your shoulder a bit. "Hey, bunny?" He asked, and you nodded, humming a noise of yes, you heard him. He chuckled. "You'll have to get up baby. I have to prepare the couch for you." Typically, it would be normal to give a guest the bed- if he was being a gentleman. But that was what he was being; because his couch was the most comfortable thing in his entire apartment for that matter. Yet maybe it was the sleep inside your bones making you drowsy, but you shook your head. "Hm?" He asks, and you suddenly move.
You shuffle around, suddenly hugging him tightly, head hidden in his chest as you rub your nose against the soft fabric of his shirt for a moment. "Don't wanna." You complain, and he swears he dies and gets ressurected all at once seven times in total at your next words. "Wanna sleep with 'koo." You drawl, and he knows he should not let you. You're not thinking clearly- but he can't deny you anything when you're like this, it seems. You've got him wrapped around your little finger, tightly, with no chance of escape.
So he gently picks you up after turning off the TV, bringing you to his bedroom, where he puts you on the bed, your tired form struggling to stay seated. He picks out a shirt of his to wear, and a pair of your shorts out of your backpack Taehyung has left for you. "Sweetheart, can you change for me?" He asks, and you simply let yourself playfully fall ontop of his mattress, making him sigh. You're going to be the death of me. "Oh really now?" He says, before he crawls over you, with the intention to tickle you a little awake- but he stops in his tracks. In fact, time seems to stop as well, as your eyes stare at him, so big and full of wonder he almost can't stop himself from looking at your lips.
But its you who shyly- and so quickly he almost doesnt catch it- pecks his lips before sneakily slipping out his grasp, taking your clothes with you into the bathroom, leaving him on the bed. He sits down, touching his lips for a second, absolutely unsure if he'd just experienced this, or if he had just had a fever dream of some sorts.
It's only when he notices you don't emerge from the bathroom, that he moves. He gently knocks at the wooden door, asking for you, but you don't answer. "I'm gonna open the door, okay?" He says, and does so seconds after, spotting you sitting on the tiled floor- now dressed in his sweater and your shorts, ready for bed. He notices however how you're hiding in the sweater- the hood covering your ears, while your hands shield your face. "Whats wrong?" He asks as he squats down in front of you, his hands gently pulling yours away from your face. You're not crying, thank god, but the look on your face speaks entire novels about how embarrassed you feel.
"M'sorry." You say, and pout, and he shakes his head.
"Don't be." He simply answers, helping you stand up after a moment. "Why do you feel bad?" He asks, and you shrug your shoulders.
"I just.." You start, but suddenly your eyes grow glossy. "I miss Taehyung-" You say, and Jungkook's heart drops for a moment. "-but I also don't wanna go home tomorrow." You finish, and Jungkook blinks twice, before he looks at you, confused. You didn't want to leave? Him? "I.. no, it's fi-"
"Say it." He demands- its not harsh, its not even loud, its almost just a whisper, tuneless words pressed out in a breath of air. "Don't keep it in- say it." He prompts you, and you swallow, not looking at him.
"I wanna stay with you." You say.
And he swears, the pain in his heart was the sweetest he'd ever felt.
Tumblr media
The next day, after breakfast, Jungkook and you sit on his living room floor, him teaching you how to build a rubber powered plane- the one's he used to make as a kid. He'd kept a kit in his apartment back when he moved out of his family home but never got around to really use it. It was the perfect opportunity for you to enjoy the things you had missed out on in your life. He loved the way you so intensely watching his every move as he showed you how to put the pieces together. "And that's gonna fly?" You ask curiously, leaning over a bit as to get a better look at it.
"Hmhm." He says, holding it up, before giving it to you. "Here, turn this part until you can't anymore." He says, and you start twisting it for a while. "Don't worry, you can't break it." He says when you hesitate a little. He highly doubts you'll be able to snap the rubber band. "Tight?" He asks, checking, before he nods, standing up. "Lets go fly it outside!" He says, opening the glass door to the small backyard of his apartment. "And- Go!" he says, and you throw it just how he showed you minutes prior; letting it fly for a good moment before it landed.
"It flew!" You exclaimed happily, and he laughed as well, congratulating you as if you had just won a competition. He held you tightly to his body for a moment after you had jumped into his arms- and that was how you just stood there for a moment, simply existing, holding each other. For you, this was a moment of realizing that no, you're not alone. You're not useless, you're not just a pet, you're not just existing for someone's enjoyment. You had this one person at your side now, someone you could count on, someone to make you feel safe. And for him? Weirdly enough, he felt like the male lead of a romantic drama show- finally getting the happy ending he always craved in his life. He never knew what exactly he always wanted from his time here on earth. Was it success? Was it money? A big apartment, a nice home, a lot of friends? No, it was building a blanket fort with you in his living room. It was going to the grocery store with you, protecting you from big dogs that scared you, or holding you during the night. Every cheesy romantic thing he could imagine, now always featured you in his head; and it just, fit. It fit perfectly.
You fit into his life just perfectly.
It's later that day when Taehyung picks you up that he realizes that yes, he's positively in love with you. Because how can he not fall in love with those glistening eyes, hand waving goodbye for now because of course he can't just keep you like he wants to. There's paperwork involved, and your things need to be moved to his place- all of that needing to wait for social services to check his home, so that they can make sure he's really the right fit for you. It's then that he finally lets everything sink in, finally lets him think about what's going to happen, whats going to change.
And for the first time, he couldn't wait for it. He couldn't wait for things to change.
Tumblr media
Jungkook baked you a small cake for your welcoming into his home- finally yours as well, as you hug Taehyung for the last time, the older friend waving before the door closes, Jungkooks arms instantly pulling your back into his chest. He leans his head down, kissing your shoulder, before he runs his sensitive lips over the so unbelievably soft fur of your ears. Three weeks had passed, yet to him it had felt like an entire year. Jungkook was sometimes impatient, and waiting had been pure torture for him. So now, as he was finally able to hold you again, he felt his entire stress vaporize into nothingness.
You giggled, before turning around, hugging him fully, and rubbing your face into his sweater, as if to get your scent onto him. Which was exactly your plan- after all, he was your human now, officially yours, so everyone should know that. The rumble in his chest that was his chuckle made you smile widely, grinning as you looked up at him, chin resting on his chest.
Oh may god have mercy on his soul!
He leaned downwards, finally capturing your lips with his, the first real long kiss to be shared between the two of you. Both of you melted into the sweet gesture, your ears falling down lazily as he showered you in affection; kisses to your nose, your cheeks, and your lips again. He continued until the corners of your eyes gathered tears from laughing so much.
This was how you were supposed to be. You were never supposed to cry because you were upset-
the only tears you should ever have to shed, should be tears of happiness.

This is just a scenario that I thought of but dont have the energy to write a whole asa about so here's a short description of it. Klarion and you have been beaten to a pulp by Dr.Fate and declares that he will kill one of you but you have to choose who it will be. And before Klarion could gawk at what he just said you offer yourself for Klarions life, and Dr.Fate accepts but before the execution you ask for a simple request, to say your last goodbye to your brother. With tears going down your face and a faltering smile you get ready to depart from your dear brother, but as you're about to hug him he snatches your wrists and pulls you closer into his arms. And within seconds everything around you erupts into chaos, shattering reality like gals. Dr.Fate trise to fly away but if you know anything about glas is when it breaks and the cracks spreads, it does so under 1.5 kilometers per second. And when it reaches him it knocks off the helmet and renders Zatanna temporarily unconscious. The reason why Klarion waited to do that wasn't because he couldn't. But because if you would have been in the radius of the explosion (or whatever you can call that) you would have been dead.
I got this idea from a clip in a movie on youtube, it's called Madoka Magica rebellion. It originated from a Japanese cald Madoka Magica, the show is about girls “saving” the world from witches by becoming magickal girls. If you like dark shows then I recommend it. I don't want to spoil the whole plot for you but I thought I might as well show you my inspiration, start watching it at 1:10 and end at 3:21
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg8xgMK24jk
This clip also gave me ideas for a yandere tipe Klarion where he combines your divine soul with his to be together forever even after death, but that's a story for another day :)
Okay but like, I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ALREADY, DAMN-
This is very well thought out and honestly, even your short stories are so fun to read!

{fancy suits from dad}
Ships: Peter Stark & Tony Stark, Pepper Pots/Tony Stark
Warnings: swearing, just fluff otherwise :)

Here’s the thing, Peter Parker grew up in Stark Tower, which eventually became Avengers Tower of course. So whilst his whole class was buzzing about their field trip, all he could think was, “shit, shit shit.” His dad was going to embarrass the hell out of him. His Aunts and Uncles were going to endlessly tease him.
So, no Peter was not looking forward to the field trip. Not in the slightest. He still wanted to go, though. He knew that the rumors of his internship being fake were started by Flash, the annoying teen. He also knew that Flash had not once said his real name, preferring the name Penis Parker. It didn’t bother him as much as it used to. Also since highschool began, Flash had calmed down with his bullying. Well, maybe Flash hadn’t calmed down and high school was just bigger and he had thicker skin. And a new support system with plenty of people to go to.
Peter had been adopted by the Starks when he was a mere ten years old. At first, he was terrible at receiving any gifts or even too much attention. Slowly but surely, he got more and more used to it. Now, he wouldn’t not know what to do if any of that was taken away. Plus, he really did find a liking for expensive suits, however shallow. He looked good in them, and his father always insisted on buying him more and more. Tony would always find an excuse to spoil the kid a little more, however much Pepper tried to stop him.
“Peter, please see me after class regarding an urgent matter.”
Brough out of his thoughts, Peter swiftly nodded his head.
He looked at the board to see the words from before still written on them, “Field Trip to Stark Industries!” It might as well have said, “Dig Peter Stark’s Grave!”
“So, let’s get started with today’s lesson, graphing imaginary numbers on the complex plane!” He’d done this one a while back with his father. Something about not only learning applicable science and engineering. Peter tapped his glass, and the episode of Arrow he’d been watching on the car ride over began playing. He’d be ever grateful for his father’s gift of EDITH to him. Pepper had tried to ban him from wearing them to school, but hastily gave up when Peter pulled the spiderman danger card.
“Alright, class dismissed. Please remember to do this homework pages 11-18 on this unit’s homework handout.”
Peter, forgetting his teacher's previous request, was very glad to be on his way home. He was one foot out of the door when the teacher called his name. Now, his day had gone pretty well up to that point. Bucky made pancakes for breakfast, which were delicious. There was wayyy less traffic on the way to school. He’d aced an essay and a couple of quizzes, and then he even participated in PE effectively. But alas, all good things had to come to an end.
“Mr. Parker? The discussion.”
“Right,” Peter thought, joining the teacher at his desk.
“Peter, you are truly a great kid. I know you’ve been through a lot recently and in your life, but it is no excuse to make up an internship. We both know that it is not real. Now, acknowledging that you have a bright future, the administration and I have come forward with an offer. If you agree to write an apology, expressing that you understand what you did was wrong and immoral, you will both be allowed to come on the trip and no punishment will be given to you. If you choose to not take this opportunity, you will be banned from the trip and will be chastised.
Peter just stood there, not really comprehending. Apparently Flash’s little rumors were a lot bigger than he anticipated.
“I-i-I’m not lying,” was all he could manage. He had filed all the right paperwork and proved his internship.
“I’m sorry to hear that you will not come forward with the truth. You have up until the day before the trip to hand in the letter if you change your mind. Goodbye Peter.”
Peter just let his legs take him out of the classroom, then out of the school, and then to the road, a couple blocks away, where his dad picks him up from.
“Hello mini-me.”
“Hey,” Peter said, jumping into the passenger seat.
“‘Hi Dad, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to pick me up each and every day. Sick new car by the way! I’d love to drive it sometime!”
Peter just rolled his eyes with a smile, “Car looks great dad. McLarren’s are superior yet.”
“Ungrateful, so so ungrateful. What’s got you in a mood then?”
“Nothin,” Peter said, pulling out his phone.
“Oh come on, tell me. Tell me or I’ll call Ted.”
“Ned, Dad. We’ve been friends for like three years.”
“Not the point.”
“Just something at school.”
“Wow how very descriptive. You know I’m trying to do the whole feelings thing here, and you should appreciate that coming from my emotionally stunted self.”
“You’re so dramatic. Basically we’re having a field trip to your tower, and I’m not allowed to go because the teacher doesn’t think I really have an “internship.” Which, to be fair I don’t but that’s on you and not me.”
“Nah na na. I offered you an internship, and you said I’d be bored.”
“It would be. Doing a project for your company under strict supervision of some person would be sucky. I mean I can do anything I want from the lab you built me.”
“I know, but remember technically you are my intern. Remember we did that whole personal intern bullshit for the school.”
“Oh right. Is that why you keep harassing me about submitting all my completed projects.”
“No, that’s all your mother. Something about not wanting a lawsuit over a fake internship.”
“Make sense. She tends to be a lot smarter than you.”
“Ah, I feel so attacked. The abuse I suffer.”
“You’re terrible.”
“I am internally crying, kid. Sobbing.”
“Shut up,” we laughed.
“Who’s home?”
“You saw Buck and Sam this morning. Nat and Steve came back from their mission this afternoon. Thor and Loki are back for dinner tonight.. Strange might be coming round, not sure though. Cliff and the family aren’t back for at least a couple weeks. Oh and Bruce is wholed up in his lab as usual.”
“Shit. Everyone staying till the end of the week.”
“Yeah, oh the field trip. You’re screwed. You should have not told me.”
“Ughhhhh!!!”
“I love your life Petey.”
Peter walked into the kitchen and saw Steve reading a newspaper.
“Uncle Steve! Your back!” he smiled, dropping his bag off near the sofa. Steve got up to give the smaller boy a hug.
“Yep. Mission completed.”
“Nice. Can you tell me about it?”
“Yeah, it was nothing too interesting. We just needed some more intel into a terrorist organization stationed in the US. Most of the mission was recon. The next steps are being taken in a couple weeks.”
“Good to know there’s an active terrorist organization out there,” Peter said lightly.
Steve just smiled, not quite understanding the modern humor.
“Where is everyone else?” he said, realizing the living room was not in it’s normal chaotic state that he’d come to love. The chaos was his favorite reminder that he had so many people. He liked having lots of people, even after all this time.
“Nat and Buck are training, they invited you to join if you want. Bruce is in his lab, and dont worry he slept and ate last night. Not sure about the rest.”
“Right, thanks. I think I’m going to go train.”
Before he knew it, it was Friday morning, and his school was coming to his home. He was going to try very hard to ignore them. To do so, he asked his mum to let him sit in on some meetings. He had an easy in to the R&D and mechanical side of the company via the other interns. He was actually planning on hanging out with some of the “other” interns later that day. They were always happy to let Pete in on their projects and let him give them a hand. But he was always interested in getting more detail about the business side of the company, and he liked to get a window into it. Pepper was always happy to show her son the ropes. I mean he was heir to the company after all, even if he didn’t know yet.
He asked his mum to only schedule meetings after 12 as he requested a sleep in. Pepper was always happy when Peter slept as he was a little too much like his father. So, he woke bright and early at 11:00 o’clock.
After a scroll through his phone and a quick shower, he was ready to pull on his far too expensive Brunellio’s custom suit. It was one of his favorites. His father had got it custom made when he was in Italy, and told him he simply could not resist getting one for the kid. Pepper just smiled.
He had a large breakfast (enhanced metabolism) and headed towards the 34th floor where his first meeting was located. He’d been shadowing his mum for almost a year now whenever it was convenient, so he had the rointine down. He was almost sure he could take over a few of her meetings.
“Hi honey,” Pepper said, giving the boy a quick kiss on the cheek on the way to her own chair beside him. Peter blushed before resuming his professional posture and facial expression.
“Good morning everyone, as you can see Peter will be joining us today. I want to talk about some of the services we provide for our employees and their feedback. I’m aware we have a large portion to talk about so Kendra please take it away on that front.”
The first meeting went smoothly as planned. It was a discussion on the progress of the internal services, aka the IT department. Peter hadn’t learned much about their IT department, so it was good to listen in to. Pre these meetings, he, of course, does research into the background stuff, so he’s not completely lost. Pepper’s assistant usually provides him with a packet of info about the Stark Industries side of things. He is also given a list of key words and concepts he might want to make sure he understands. The research is fun for him, it makes him feel all professional.
Usually he spoke during the meetings, asking a couple questions and suggesting some ideas, but for this one he just learned and took in. The next meeting, however, was very much so his field. He’d spoken a lot with advertising, becoming very interested in the data analysis behind it. He even took a stats class so he could keep up. In that one he asked questions Pepper was on the verge of asking twice. He also contributed to the analysis of data once. Pepper usually liked him to participate as it was good for him, but he always felt bad suggesting stuff to the senior adults. He usually spoke to his mum or dad about projects for the company, preferring that.
They hung back in the room of the second meeting.
“Good job in this one Pete. Took two questions right off my tongue.”
“Thanks ma,” he said, always appreciating some approval.
“That’s all I’ve got for you today, kid. Rest of the stuff is, ya know.”
“Course. Thanks for these two. It was good to learn about internal affairs a bit more. Have a gap of knowledge there.”
“Yeah. Was that the first time meeting our CIT?”
“I believe so.”
“Well, next time we have a broader IA meeting, I’ll pull you outta school,” Pepper suggested.
“Really? That’d be epic.”
“Course, hun. Jarvis, sort that out please.”
“Of course Mrs. Potts.”
“Thanks J,” Peter yelled.
“Anytime mini-boss. No need to disturb the entire floor.”
“Are AI supposed to be so snarky?”
“Dad programmed it, what else would it be?”
“Valid point.”
“Right, got to run. See you later.”
“Bye, love you mum!”
“Love you too, Pete.”
“Jarvis, could you send me the tour plan for the visiting tour today?”
“Absolutely, sir. They’re on your phone now.”
“Thanks J.”
Looking at the plans Peter smiled. He had successfully avoided them the entire day. It said they were supposed to head back to school at 2:30, and it was about to be three. Smile on his face, he trotted down to the lobby to grab a coffee before going to meet Loki at the arcade. Don’t judge them, it was their thing. Taking the private lift down, and then walking straight to the coffee stand and ordering.
“Mr. Parker!” he heard the angry voice of his teacher, “How dare you show up here aft-”
Shit. shit. Shit.
“Edith, call dad, and tell him it’s urgent in the lobby.”
“Of course Peter.”
“Peter, are you listening to me! You are going to face extreme consequences for this.”
“Your coffee,” the man said, not realizing it was Peter, level ten personal of the tower, that was being yelled at.
“Thanks.”
“How dare you get coffee! In this building! Security!”
Tony arrived spotting his son instantly.
“Kid this best be impor- I see.”
“Hey Mr. Stark,” Peter said weakly.
“Mr. Harrington is it? Please stop harassing my intern.”
“H-he, he is y-your intern?”
“Yes. My favorite. Please exit the building and never question him again. You will be hearing from me.”
Let’s just say, Monday was an interesting day. At least Flash backed off, he was definitely an intern at SI, and no one embarrassed him on the trip.

Magic Marinette
Marinette is Zatanna's older cousin and can practice magic herself. Her magic is different however. For most low level spells she simply has to think of what the spell is intended for. For a harder spell she needs to chant much like Zatanna.
Marinette practices at home with her Uncle Zatara occasionally visiting with Zatanna. Magic comes naturally to Marinette, she likes to claim that it just flows in and out of her.
Marinette is 13 (Zatanna is only 6) when she becomes Ladybug, her magic and Tikki's combining flawlessly. The two are a magical power house, so much so that Marinette has to lock her aura down so that she'll only appear as a low level mage. Zatara is proud of his niece for becoming a hero, although he isn't exactly pleased, he knows better than to mess with the Kwami.
He is there for her every step of the way only a call away. When Marinette's friends turn against her and she ends up with only four left  he and Zatanna are there to comfort her. When her parents start feeding into the lies he is incredibly angry. Especially when he sees the broken look on his beloved nieces face. Zatara is quick to suggest he take complete custody over Marinette, her parents agree and sign away their rights.
Zatara helps Marinette pack her things and moves her into an apartment in Paris. Until Marinette is 18 he'll be spending the majority of his time in Paris with her. Zatanna grows up beside Marinette looking up to her as a big sister. Marinette lives up to that roll always spoiling Zatanna.
When Marinette becomes Guardian Zatara helps her navigate how to deal with her new responsibilities. A few weeks later when she shows up hand in hand with a blonde boy, he recognizes him immediately. After a quick shovel talk Adrien is practically adopted into the family. His and Marinette's relationship blossomed beautifully.
Zatara has Marinette transferred out of her current class and Adrien follows her. The two are barely separate from each other, but when they are their former classmates take advantage of it. Marinette is constantly watching her back when she is alone. Especially when Bustier's class fails to make all their fundraising goals, Marinette can feel them glaring at her.
The class takes turns finding ways to bully Marinette. Alya posts embarrassing pictures of her, Rose tells everyone stories of her trying to get Adrien's attention calling her terrible names. Alix and Nathaniel kick her out of the Art Club. Kim and Alix push her around in the halls and so on. With Lila acting as the innocent bystander.
The class becomes more and more toxic towards themselves and others. This results in the entire school avoiding them, they however blame Marinette for everything. Even though she hasn't thought of them except for when they're bullying her.
Marinette is pissed when Bunnyx comes back from the future and takes the Bunny Miraculous from her. She immediately gives it to her younger self. Now Ladybug and Chat Noir have to work around an untrained liability.
When Marinette is 18 Zatanna is 11.
During their final year Adrien proposes to Marinette after asking Zatara's permission. Marinette agrees to marry him amd the wedding is set for the summer after they graduate.
The wedding never comes. After they graduate they face off with Hawkmoth and Mayura in one final battle. They had defeated Mayura and Chat was about to take Hawkmoth's Miraculous when Bunnyx showed up. She uses Burrow and endes up knocking Chat into an unknown part of time. Everything is silent as Ladybug stares at the space her partner had been in waiting for him to show up. When no one arrives a heartbreaking scream tears through her. All of Paris watches their last hero break down crying, with a burst of rage she defeats Hawkmoth unmasking him. Then charges Bunnyx using her magic to take her down.
Kcol reh ni ecalp htiw ton a elgnis hctiwt!!
Lock her in place with not a single twitch!!
Bunnyx is frozen as Ladybug rips her Miraculous away de-transforming her. She glares at her through her tears, before telling her that she was never meant to be a hero.
Ladybug then leaves with all the Miraculous except for Plagg.
Marinette de-transforms in her room, tears falling as she stares despondently at the ground. Before she utters a simple incantation releasing Alix from where she was frozen.
Cogam sesaeler eht eno I evah dnuob.
Magic releases the one I have bound.
Marinette remains there only moving when Zatanna comes in and sits on her lap. Marinette sniffles hugging her tightly, crying while Zatanna comforts her, crying softly as well.
The next day they are visited by an elderly old man with a kind smile. He introduces himself as Alfred Pennyworth. A mischievous smile crosses his face as he makes eye contact with Marinette.
Alfred-I didn't always go by that though. The love of my life used to call me kitty.
Marinette-Adrien?
Alfred simply smiled sadly nodding before telling her that she cannot go get him.
Alfred- I was sent back so long ago. When you never came I began to make a life for myself. I joined MI-16 and was adopted into a family. Became a butler and was loyal to the Wayne family. I had a son in all but blood, his name is Bruce. It's funny Bugaboo, he has the same black hair and blue eyes as you. Some nights I would pretend that he was our child. Marinette I love you but my life as Alfred Pennyworth cannot be removed from history. This is why I am asking you to move on, find love again.
Marinette sobs softly into his shoulder telling him that she'll do her best. Alfred smiles before pulling out a familiar ring placing it in her hand. Before telling Plagg that he better keep his Princess safe. Marinette giggles softly kissing him on his cheek.
Marinette- Keep in touch please Adrien, I can't live without you at least in my life.
Alfred nods kissing Marinette's hands gently before bidding all three of them goodbye.
Marinette continues on with her life but she doesn't fall in love again. She knows in her heart thay the only one for her was Adrien. Marinette becomes a famous fashion designer by day and Mari by night. She begins training Zatanna along with Zatara. Helping stop bag guys with  simple spells. When Zatanna is 15 she encourages Zatara to let her hang out with the Young Justice team and be a part of it. She happily spies through a seeing glass to see their first meeting. Marinette giggles when her cousin takes an instant liking to the young boy wonder. She smiles softly at the picture of the boy knowing that he was Alfred's honorary grandson.
A few weeks later Marinette is working to reunite the dimensions. When they make it back she is heartbroken to see her cousin with the Helmet of Fate. Zatara immediately tries to convince him to take him instead but Marinette stops him.
Marinette- Release my cousin and take me instead Nabu.
Nabu-No, you barely show any signs of magic.
Marinette huffs before chanting a reversal incantation on the spell she put in place all those years ago. Her aura fills the area allowing everyone to feel her magic.
Marinette-If you release her you can have me. I just need to do a few things first.
Nabu- Very well.
He released Zatanna, Zatara is quick to hug her before turning to Marinette angry demanding to know why she did that with tears in his eyes. Marinette smiled softly before kissing his cheeks softly then kissing Zatanna's. She summons a pen and paper with an envelope writing out a letter to Alfred. She sealed the envelope before turning to Robin.
Marinette- Please deliver this to Agent A for me little birdie. Tell him Ladybug said it was important.
She pats his head gently before smiling softly at Batman.
Marinette- He thinks of you as his son, but he'll never admit it because he doesn't want to take your father's place. Trust me though, a child can have more than one father.
She said glancing down at Robin when she said it. She turned away from them looking down at her cousin once again.
Marinette- Zatanna, my dearest cousin. I will be departing soon and with that I need to name the next Guardian. Will you uphold and protect the Kwami to the best of your ability?
As she is speaking, Marinette holds out her hands the Miraculous box and Gilmore appears in them. Zatanna chokes back a sob before nodding.
Zatanna- Ib accept.
Marinette passed her the box smiling gently as Tikki flew out of her coat pocket.
Marinette- This is goodbye Tikki, we made a good team didn't we?
Tikki- We were the best Marinette.
Tikki and Marinette smile gently, a few tears slipping past as Tikki kissed Marinette's forehead gently.
Marinette- Zatanna, I hear by name you the new holder of the Ladybug Miraculous. Treat her well and she shall bring you everlasting luck.
Marinette unclips her earring, clipping them into Zatanna's ears gently.
Marinette-You will make a fine Ladybug.
Zatanna- I'll be nothing like you.
Marinette- No, you'll be better.
She kissed her forehead gently before turning to Zatara as he pulled her into a tight hug. She sniffled softly hugging back just as tightly. She released him, pushing herself away and closer to Nabu.
Marinette- Please dont blame yourselves. I made this decision not you. Goodbye, I love you.
Marinette turned allowing the helmet to close around her, becoming Doctor Fate.
Upon returning to the Watchtower, Alfred arrived wearing a mask of his own before walking over to his two charges. Robin held the letter out to him shifting nervously.
Robin- Ladybug said it was important.
Alfred's eyes widen as he takes the letter opening it.
Adrien, I'm sorry but I was never able to move on from you. You were and always will by my true love. I'm afraid this is my goodbye, please don't do anything stupid love. You're not as young as you were when we were together. You've raised a good son, I wish I could have been by you the entire time. I love you Adrien. -Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
Alfred turned to Zatanna and Zatara as a tear fell. They nodded solemnly soon more tears joined them as he stood there silently. A few moments went by before Alfred dabbed his face gently singing quietly to himself.
Alfred- Miraculous, simply the best, up to the test when things go wrong, Miraculous the luckiest….Im Chat Noir. At night I rule, my ring is charged with energy, my claws are out just watch and see.
Alfred's shoulders shook as he thought of all their time together. He took a deep breath before turning back to Zatanna.
Alfred- In every letter she wrote she was always so proud of you. She always told me that you were going to be great one day, even better than her. My princess will always be proud of you, take it from your almost cousin.
Zatanna sniffled before snorting and hugging Alfred.
Zatanna-God you got so old and sappy Adrien.
Alfred-Its Alfred now and that's what happens when you get thrown back in time and aged.
He turned to Batman and Robin with a sad smile on his face.
Alfred-I think it's time you both hear of my life before MI-16.

the promise of happiness
Pairing: Bryce Lahela x F!MC (Alessia Lyxienne)
Book: Open Heart
Rating: G , TW: mentions of surgery.
Prompts by @choicesjunechallenge2021 Day 1 – plot twist
Summary: Alessia's ex is in town, and its quite a reunion. <3
A/N: hiii, so I decided to participate in the challenge and well, write lots of Bryce before we have to say goodbye to him soon. So, this is kinda (hopefully) become a writing spree for me - like a Bryce appreciation-ish of my own. I have some plans already - and, I can't wait to share them! Also, a huge shoutout to @appiomofchoice for a lot of her help on this fic and the upcoming ones! Enjoy! (also, I will start to use a new mc name! however, she is who casey is but, with a new name instead hehe) // i dont own any characters except mc and brian lewis. (and, i apologize for grammar errors and any errors in this story)
-
It was supposed to be a normal day, however, the gasped that escaped her signals that the day is going to be an adventure. As she stood beside Bryce, both of them were facing a familiar face who she knows all too well. Brian Lewis, the Brian Lewis. The knowing smirk on his face as his gaze falls onto her brings back all the memories during her time at med school before.
He was a senior, a few years older than her. As they started to get to know one another through a mentoring session with Dr. Lisbon in her anatomy class. They started to go out in a matter of months, as their study sessions become quite intimate in the past – before, breaking up as Brian left for an opportunity to continue his residency in London. They were on good terms, and seeing him again in front of her brought back old memories.
“Dr. Lyxienne, are we clear?” The sound of Harper’s voice pulled her out of a trance, as she was pulled back into reality.
“I’m sorry, would you repeat that once more?”
Harper nods, before introducing him to her – as Bryce raised an eyebrow at the man.
“This is Dr. Brian Lewis from John Hopkins – and, he will assist us in one of the diagnostics team cases.” Brian takes his hand out towards her as Bryce took it before Alessia could do anything.
“Nice to meet you, Dr. Lewis, I’m Dr. Bryce Lahela and this is…”
“The Dr. Lyxienne of course! How have you been Alessia?” He said with a huge smile on his face, as Alessia froze, not knowing or mentally preparing herself where her boyfriend met his ex.
“I’m doing fine, thank you, Dr. Lewis.” The formality makes him take a step back as the atmosphere around them becomes awkward.
“Well, Dr. Lewis – we will see you at the diagnostics office soon. It’s nice to meet you.” Harper shook his arm again, with a smile before leaving the room.
The three of them stood awkwardly, before Alessia’s pagers started to beep – as she quickly runs away from the scene any further.
The two men stood quietly before Bryce left the room as well – leaving a sighing Brian in the office.
-
Bryce’s pager started to vibrate, as he was called into the diagnostics office as he finished with an appendectomy. With a satisfied smile on his face, he was met with a full office – consists of Dr. Emery, Dr. Ramsey, Alessia, Dr. Carrick, and Brian who are discussing their new case.
“Bryce, welcome. Dr. Lewis, this is one of our top surgeons in our department– Dr. Bryce Lahela.” Harper stated before Bryce taking a seat beside Alessia who looks nervous upon the encounter.
“It's good to see you again Dr. Lahela.” His voice was rough with a hint of softness in it.
Bryce nods before he was passed with a copy of the case itself.
“Based on the check-up we did, we found that the patient has suffered from spinal osteomyelitis. It is known as an infection of the vertebrae – it is a rare case, however still dangerous overall.” His presence is commanding as the others listen to it intently.
“How dangerous is it?” Alessia’s voice can be heard as all eyes fall on her.
Brian smiles, as he explains.
“Infections on the spine can be extremely dangerous along with the surgery on that are can be risky with the probability that may lead to a case of paralysis or even more infection.”
She nods intently, as the room went quiet once more.
“When will the surgery be performed? I’m guessing the sooner, the better right?” Tobias adds along with the conversation.
“I suspect we kept her in for a couple of days, to make some additional check-ups. But, if a timeline was needed – definitely as soon as we could.” He concludes before taking a seat.
After a while of discussion – the team was dispersed.
“Dr. Emery, I have to ask why was I picked by Dr. Lewis for the surgery?”
“Dr. Tanaka recommended your name and he wanted to take you in this round. I have to go now for a meeting, but – if you have any questions, Dr. Lewis can answer it for you about the surgery.” He nods as Harper was out of his sight.
-
Alessia sits on her own, as the dish in front of her remains uneaten due to the textbooks on the table. She was quite occupied with the text in front of her without realizing she had some company awaits her.
Her gaze falls onto the familiar gray eyes looking at her – with the familiar smile since before. Brian was sitting opposite her.
“Yes, Dr. Lewis, what do you need?”
“It’s me Alessia, can we talk – why are you avoiding me?” His voice somewhat remains strong, as Alessia tries to avoid the question.
“I…don’t know. It's weird seeing you again after all these years.” She begins her argument, as Brian nods in understanding.
“I can quite say the same, you look as beautiful as years ago.” He compliments her, as she smiles and lets out a chuckle.
“Thank you. I gotta say – you look as good as you did years ago. But, why Edenbrook, what are you doing here even?” Alessia shuts the textbook, as she looked him in the eyes.
“Dr. Emery was a colleague of mine before, and she requested me to come by for the surgery. I didn’t expect you’d be here.” His gaze falls down upon his hands.
She nods, not knowing how to reply as the silence follows for a moment.
“I know it's an unexpected encounter. It might be weird seeing your ex after all these years, but…I am glad that I got to see you again Alessia.” He says with a smile on his face, the genuine expression she knew all too well from years ago.
Before she could reply, she saw Bryce making his way to her. She smiles at him, as Brian follows her gaze meeting his eyes. He waved at him, before glancing his way back to her. The wide smile on her face still presents on her face, as Bryce took a seat beside them.
“Dr. Lewis, Alessia.” He greeted them both, as Brian's gaze fall onto them both. How comfortable they looked together before he excuses himself from the table.
“I’ll see you in surgery Dr. Lahela, and Alessia.” He smiles before leaving the cafeteria.
-
Bryce’s gaze follows his trail until he left the cafeteria.
“So, I think I have been out of the loop as your boyfriend – but, who is he?” His eyebrows were raised at Brian’s empty seat.
She lets out a small chuckle,
“He is…my -ex in med school actually.” She lets the truth set free, as Bryce looks at her in awe actually.
“Well, you certainly had upgraded.” He jokes as a wink followed before she elbows him playfully.
“Very funny Bryce.” She says before opening her textbook again.
She feels his eyes on him, as she glances his way. He somehow looked nervous suddenly.
“How do you feel when you see him again?”
She thought about it,
“It feels like nostalgic, yet – the story between us has ended years ago. You don’t have to worry alright.” She winks at him, as Bryce lets out a mock laugh – as a response.
“I’m not worried! Never, nope.”
“Whatever you say, Bryce.” She said before leaning in for a kiss, as they continue to spend the remaining time together studying about the upcoming surgery.
-
It was days later, as Bryce preps for the surgery alongside Brian. The OR was quiet, as they were the only ones there. A few seconds later, the surgical assistant arrives alongside the on-lookers consists of other surgeons.
He took a deep breath before they began the procedure, the gallery above them was filled with doctors – as Bryce could recognize a few to name. Dr. Emery and Dr. Tanaka are whispering subtlely, Dr. Ramsey alongside Dr. Carrick and even Dr. Banerji are there. As his gaze moved towards the left, he was shocked to see Alessia sitting by the end of the gallery – as she waves his way. He smiles, before resuming his role alongside Brian.
The clock was ticking slowly, as he observes Brian’s work and was impressed by his handiwork. They switched tasks in between the surgery – and he felt alive at that moment.
“Dr. Lahela, pass me the lancet.” Bryce nods as one of the nurses passes it his way.
Brian was focused on his work before he blurted a question in the middle of the surgery itself.
“So, you are the boyfriend I assume.” His voice is low as Bryce look at him with wide eyes.
He nods, as Brian continues on the surgery with such ease in his work.
“How long have you been together?”
“We just made it official, but…almost three years.” He says proudly behind his surgical mask.
There was a pause in between before he says.
“Years ago, I knew that smile on her face – along with the look in her eyes, she really does loves you. And, when Alessia loves someone - she will go over mountains for you.” He said suddenly – as it felt like a promise for him.
Bryce nods and smiles to himself, remembering the moments they had gone through together.
“I know.” I will, an unspoken promise was said between the quiet atmosphere of the OR. As, a smile was visible on Brian's face - somehow he got the message.
As the procedure goes on, a couple of hours had passed – they survived the procedure after a couple roadblocks along the way. The patient has the last resort on the surgery – Bryce took the lead to amputate the affected limb to stop the infection from spreading further. And, at that note – the surgery was over.
They cleaned up from their dirty scrubs as the night has grown late for them both.
“Dr. Lahela – you did an exceptional job today.”
He smiles, feeling the glowing pride in himself.
“Thank you for giving me the chance to join in the surgery, Dr. Lewis.” He replies as Brian nods before they both started to go on separate ways.
-
It’s the day after the surgery, as Alessia stumbles upon Brian who is hugging Dr. Emery – somewhat as a gesture of farewell. As they went their separate ways, his eyes met with hers – a smile on his face.
“Hey.” He begins to conversation.
“Hi, leaving already?”
“Yeah, unfortunately, I have an emergency meeting with the head of surgery at John Hopkins in a few hours.” He explains as she nods in understanding.
“Well, it's good to see you again which is… very weird to say.” She lets out a laugh as Brian lets out a chuckle.
“It's good to see you too. It's been years, and I’m glad to see you thriving here Alessia.” He smiles as they hugged.
“Thanks to your pop-quizzes on anatomy that's what keeping me here.” She winks at the joke, as they let go of the hug.
“Well, I’m glad I could play a part in the memoir of Dr. Alessia Lyxienne then.”
She nods, as he checks on the time.
“I have to leave before the traffic gets insane – but, say ‘hi’ to Bryce for me? And, if he ever hurts you – just know I’ll be ready to kick his ass for you.”
“No need, I think he’ll make me happy.” She said wistfully, as Brian smiles even wider.
“Don’t forget to invite me to the wedding then.” He winks before leaving the hospital grounds.
He stopped in his tracks, as he gazes back at where he was before. Bryce and Alessia were seen happily smiling together, he smiles – feeling happy for them both.
-
At that moment, Bryce’s eyes met with his as he waves to him. Brian waves back, as in a second – he was gone out of their sight.
“He said ‘hi’ by the way.”
Bryce nods, as he remembers the words during the surgery – it felt like a promise for him to make her happy. He smiles, as he will keep that promise and make Alessia the happiest woman in the world with him.
THE END.

ANNOUNCEMENT: NOT A HELLO, BUT NOT A GOODBYE EITHER
omg hi ... im like . ashamed to come back after saying brief hiatus in october and then disappearing off the face of the earth til FEBRUARY but under the cut i will be explaining myself and the following, if youre interested (and a tl;dr at the very bottom if you don’t wanna scroll thru this obnoxiously long post):
the reason(s) i was gone for so long
what i was doing during that time (its just a personal account yall can scroll past this idrc)
the status of those um . halloween requests
the future of this account
i. so . Hiatus .
i know. i know . i probably mentioned it when i made the announcement post, but my mental health likes to go on one of those rides. yknow the ones where you go like up rlly fast then down maybe and then up then DOWN .... its like that. i needed a break and every time i wanted to come back or thought about it, something would happen and i would get stuck in my own head.
a big reason for getting stuck in my head was (and i hate to admit this ... i hate to admit that i have Insecurities On The Internet) my feelings of inadequacy regarding my writing. i love to plot fics, i love concepts and characters and making little headcanons but i dont ... know if i love writing rn. and i thought for the longest time that like . whatever ill just push thru it its fine ill be fine but it kinda wasnt lmao you can kinda see it in my halloween reqs and what become of them when i get to that but i began to feel like nothing i had put out or would put out would hold up prose wise (and normally i dont feel like this im much more “idc its my life im living it” but thats not a rant for tumblr LMAO). i still feel like that -- like im better as a reader than a writer. but . You Know :-)
tl;dr: mental state go brrrrr
ii. anywhere here’s wonderwall
when i left, i was in a steadily decreasing mental and emotional state, made worse by a situation at work that really was a case of petty jealousy on my end and rlly isnt very consequential now despite how much pain and resentment it gave me when it Was a problem so i wont get into it. the tl;dr of november and december was me using work as an crutch and distraction -- i know my job, i do it well, it helped me not think about my responsibilities and obligations and inadequacies. of course, as the holiday season grew busier n busier i was scheduled so often that i moved 88 or so miles (according to my apple watch, which i ONLY wear at work since im never anywhere else outside my house) and fell into a cycle of showering n sleeping at my house before going back the next day. (theres definitely something to be said abt capitalism and “grind culture” here but once again its not the time or place snsjkdfds)
at the turn of the new year, i happened to remember a birthday card i hadnt filed away for safekeeping from a friend of mine that id been horribly out of touch with til that point. i started crying because i realized how out of touch id been in general up until that point. the month of january was great for me: i was focused, happy, and in a much better place than i had been before. the end of it brought me down focus wise and im hoping that enough time away from my distractions will refocus me bc i ... need it LMAO and though ive burned out from that level of productivity and gotten distracted again im ... trying to stay positive which i think is the most i can do 😁👍🏼
media wise, i got real into stardew valley (but burned out bc i played it extensively as a way to wind down after work), the pokemon platinum romhack renegade platinum (still havent finished it bc of school n i played it w the intent to see if i could nuzlocke it ... bitch its so hard but its so fun bc of it), briefly assassins creed: odyssey (im one of those ppl who completes an entire region before i move to the next so you can tell i burned out of that one + wouldnt have the time to properly devote to it even if i didnt), got back into genshin impact after pulling for xiao (after not touching it for like . months), and danganronpa. yes . danganronpa 😐 i Know. i stopped playing it after the second trial of the first game bc i was so hurt by the outcome and picked it up in late january only to get sucked in (thank god i had the foresight to buy the second and third games during the steam winter sale). rn im at the start of chapter 4 if anyone wants to come in my asks and um . talk to me abt danganronpa
tl;dr: I’m Into Danganronpa Now
iii. you realize halloween was three months ago right
i mentioned this in the first section, but i love to plot things. every request is plotted or at least has a solid foundation. i had fun detailing what concept i wanted to go with considering what i was given, and there were some bangers i might touch up in the future. but heres whats going to happen to the requests themselves:
there are two finished requests. one will be posted tomorrow and the other will be touched up (just bc i finished it doesnt mean its good 🧍‍♂️) and scheduled for next saturday. as for the ones i never got around to ...
i will not be finishing those requests. i hate to be That Person, but i feel like we all expected this 🧍‍♂️ what i will do is post all of my notes for each request in batches -- requests that have an @ to go with them will be mentioned in the post proper, but anon asks will be pictured. (there are some asks that came from blogs who are now deactivated but i wrote down all the prompts and remember most of those askers so ill cross that bridge when i get there) there will most likely be an excerpt or two simply bc i think i mightve written a few plot points or interactions in the form of bullet points. i rlly am sorry about doing this but i remember looking at my notion doc with all the prompts and feeling ... like i wasnt measuring up n it wasnt just to myself or to some intangible concept of “other” id constructed but it was instead to those who requested n actually WANTED to see and hear and read my writing and i ...... im gonna admit thats another big reason i avoided this site.
regardless, youll definitely get what i have (and likely more than just my bullet points and illegible handwriting).
tl;dr: im sorry. what i have in terms of plot, concept, and interaction for every request will be posted, but i cant say ill ever complete them and mean it.
iv. so what now?
well i mean . im not entirely sure how sold i am on haikyuu in the content creation department (as a creator n to a lesser extent, as a consumer). as mentioned previously, its no longer my primary focus. it doesnt mean im not into haikyuu anymore; i have a lot of love for those boys but i cant rlly say im even caught up w recent fandom activity and also havent even finished s4 pt2 LMAO thats on my to do list
and despite all that, i still want to share my plots n concepts and snippets and maybe even fics. it wont happen anytime soon. it might not even happen. but i mean . its better than me saying i wont write ever again shjdkfs but either way ill probably use this blog as a personal blog w the occasional ask game for dialogue prompts (those are always so fun i love making up aus to fit like . the most mundane prompts)
as for my works (past and any potential future), ive opened an ao3 acc here n ill be editing n possibly expanding on my old works to post there. tumblr, to me, is The x reader hub, but i figure more x reader fics on ao3 is never a bad thing.
ill be deleting/posting drafted posts to the queue since they were all meant to be queued anyway as well as (sorry again 🧍‍♂️) deleting or answering asks in the inbox. (moots if you get a notif from me saying i rbed your post from months ago ... mind your business) im very hard to get ahold of and its ... a problem. expect an overhaul of the nav n shit to reflect my new direction n also because i feel like i cant tell if my passion for carrd is shared by the majority HSDKLFS maybe its better to read my info in a normal post ykwim .......
and of course . if youve read all this n decided im no longer worth the follow, i sure as hell cant stop you. thank you for wanting to, at some point, hear what i have to say -- it means more than you think.
tl;dr: writing will be edited and reposted to ao3, this blog will be a personal blog with a hint of writing (sometimes)
Tumblr media
the tl;dr to end all tl;drs:
im back! i wont be as active as i used to due to a lessened interest in haikyuu in general, but i have an ao3 acc now where all my past work will be edited, possibly expanded, and reposted. any future work will also find itself there. my halloween requests will be posted in batches as incomplete concepts, plots, and snippets of scenes; i wont be promising to finish any of them.
there are still fic concepts im attached to and want to finish, but i cant promise any more writing on my end. this blog will be a personal blog with maybe writing, not a writing blog with my personal thoughts all over it.
regardless if you stick around or not, its been crazy sexy cool (equal emphasis) being on haikyuu tumblr even tho i wasnt around for long ... even tho its not my main focus anymore, im still excited to see what the future might hold 🤝
love, ari 💌

Tapping on the counter top, I was waiting for the coffee pot to warm up the caffeinated drink that would hopefully awaken my senses. Upon seeing the light switch from red to green, my hands grabbed my aluminum tumbler and poured out the liquid. As I was sealing the cover up, a knock on the door of the common kitchen for the researchers had me turning around and raising my brow, “Hey Kim, what’s up?”
Her tawny-colored skin was somewhat damp with sweat and her chest was panting slightly, “Mission debriefing is starting in a few minutes, some of the agents just landed.” This just made me even more confused as I placed the coffee pot back to its former position, before crossing my arms, “What’s it got to do with me? I’m not usually needed there, you know.”
As she was wiping her face, she explained to me, “I was shocked too when they told me they needed you. But I think it’s because they have gathered information that they might need verification and more investigation, so you’re needed there.”
I thanked her and told her that I would be there in a few, with the tumbler on my hand, I quickly made my way inside my office, left the coffee on my table and grabbed for my iPad and stylus pen. By the time I arrived at the conference room, it looks like the agents had just arrived. I smiled at them and looked for a seat.
“Sorry, I had to handover Redwing to the technology department. But we can begin now,” Sam Wilson declared as he walked in and motioned for one of the agents to start the debriefing. The Falcon chose to sit beside me and as I started to take notes of the meeting, I noticed how he scooted closer towards me. Seeing as we were both seated away from the projector, the other four people present in the room would not have a clear view of the two of us — especially of what was happening underneath.
While focusing my attention on the screen, I felt a warm, calloused hand on my thigh. For a brief second, it made me disconnect my vision on the screen and to the hand, I looked at Sam but before I could even question what he was doing he shushed me, “Pay attention to the briefing, baby.”
The pet name had me blushing and I complied with what he ordered me to do. As the agent was continuing on with what he was talking about, I felt the same hand on my thigh riding up my black skirt until the edge of it was sitting on the middle of my thighs. Small beads of sweat began dripping on my face — I was thankful that I had worn a sleeveless, lime green blouse for it would not show any sweat stains — as I was anticipating what his next move would be. At first he was simply drumming his fingers on my thigh and caressing it, but I later on felt his fingers glide from my thigh and to my knees.
I placed the iPad on the table and placed both my hands there, not only was I taking notes of what was being discussed in this meeting, but I was also hoping to shield whatever was happening underneath the table from the eyes of the other people who were present in the room. His cayenne-toned hand was inching his way towards the insides of my thigh. Enjoying the sensation of warmth that his fingers brought — as well as being completely engrossed on what was being discussed by the other agent who had taken the floor to speak about the earlier events of the mission — I absentmindedly widened my legs and welcomed his hand.
A low chuckle was let out by the Avenger and his amusement with the situation was also made clear through his fingers brushing my clit through my panties. I gripped on my stylus pen tighter when one of his fingers swiped my underwear to the side and he was gently poking my clit. Inhaling sharply, I looked from the iPad and onto the screen, relief washing over me once I realized that the debriefing had come to an end.
“I’m gonna stay here for a little while to copy the presentation and check over the reports you have,” I stated as I moved away from the table and stood up over to where the laptop attached to the projector was, the other four agents nodded and all made their way to door to leave the room. I saw that Sam also stood and headed for the door and just when I thought he would come along with them to leave he informed them, “I’m gonna stay just in case she has any questions about our mission. Great work earlier, by the way.”
As I continued on with sending the files to my email and as well to my other team members, I noticed how as Sam called them out goodbye, he shut and locked the door. I gulped as I saw him start to make his way towards where I was. Standing and towering over where I was seated, he placed both of his hands on my shoulders, his lips grazing my neck, “You did so good earlier, baby girl. Keeping quiet for me, letting me play with you.”
I didn’t know how to react and continued on looking for the files that they had found, this might have upset him because he bit down on the flesh of my neck and I whimpered, turning my head to face him. There was a sinister smile gracing his lips when I finally looked at him, “There’s my pretty girl,” he softly said as one of his hands grazed the side of my face, “why don’t you be a good girl and put that laptop down for now, hm?”
I nodded and placed the laptop down next to the projector and the iPad I used earlier, all without breaking eye contact with him — not that I could remove my eyes from his intense gaze. Upon seeing that I followed him, he once again told me to stand up and I did, he went behind me — his front pressing against mine. Feeling his breath tickle the back of my neck prompted the goosebumps on my skin to rise.
His hands gently grazed my forearms and they were slowly going lower into my waist then my hips. “I’ve been talking to Stark recently,” he began as his lips touched my ear, “And he told me how you’re one of the most hardworking employees we have.” My spine went frigid upon hearing this, memories of my previous encounter with the aforementioned hero resurfaced on my head and made me all tingly. “Is there any truth in that, baby girl?”
I gulped, “Yeah, he once caught me working late and being the only one left in the building,” I managed to breath out. A chuckle of approval vibrated through his chest and his hands slid down meeting the end of my black pencil skirt, hiking it up until the ends of it rested on my waist. As his hands began cupping and feeling up my backside, “I might have to see for myself how much of a hard worker you really are,” and just as he said that, he shoved me into the table until my chest was planted firmly against the cold, wooden table and he swiftly slapped both of my ass cheeks.
I let out a small whimper as I turned my head around and watched him as he pulled my panties down, leaving it to pool at my feet. A small amount of drool left my mouth upon seeing how he was unfastening his pants and pulling it down it, along with his underwear — finally revealing his erected cock. “Let’s see how much of a good girl you are, baby.”
Despite my internal debate — on whether we would be caught, what if someone decided to walk in, should I really let this go any further — I found myself moaning in pleasure when Sam slid in with one move. “Fuck, baby girl, you feel so tight,” he groaned and did not wait for anything and suddenly pulled his hips back and slammed it back.
He was taking his time with his thrusts, but that did not mean he was being gentle. Long, slow, and powerful thrusts were being given to me. I wailed loudly as he entangled one of his hands in my hair and pulled on it, lifting my chest slightly above the desk, arching my back and I could feel his chest pressed against mine. His lips were placing wet kisses on my neck, “You like that, baby? You like having a thick cock inside of you?”
His other hand which was not entangled on my hair was rubbing my nipples through my blouse. Feeling that I had no bra, and just had nipple tape covering it had him laughing, “What a slut you are huh, baby? Coming to work with no bra, it’s just like you’re begging to get fucked!” My whimpers and dragged out moans were not enough to fuel him to keep him going, for he let go of my hair and spanked my ass, “Answer me! You like being used like a little whore?”
I nodded my head, “Yes, fuck! I like it when you use me, makes me feel full,” I was going to say more but he raised one of my legs and placed it on the table, stretching me out for him, allowing him to reach deeper within me. He also began to move one of his hands inside my blouse and remove the nipple tapes, flicking, pulling and twisting my nipples. To add even more pleasure, he was also slapping my ass and rubbing them after his hand met by backside flesh.
“Moan my name, baby, let me know how much you love this,” he managed to say within deep breaths and my fists curled near my head as the stimulation became too intense. He was displeased with my lack of response, which prompted him to push inside me and not pull out. With one hand still enveloped around my boob, his other hand was rubbing my swollen clit. Feeling deprived of pleasure and wanting to already cum, I was grinding my ass to his cock, hoping to match the pleasure he’d given me earlier. “You know what I wanna hear, baby. Say it and I’ll make you cum hard,” he retorted me at what I was doing.
“Please, Sam, please make me cum,” I began and he smirked and resumed thrusting in me, “You feel so good inside me. You got me so wet and I love having you in me,” I mewled out, hoping that my moans would get him going, and apparently it did the trick. He was now going fast and hard, not giving me any time to breathe, just using my body however he pleases — and I loved every single second of it.
With his two fingers rubbing my clit furiously, the other hand clawing and pinching at my breasts, as long as his thick cock hit my insides in a hard and furious pace, I came with a scream. This however did not stop Sam from going, he continued on with his pace even though I was overly sensitive. He withdrew both his hands from my boob and clit, placing them in my hips — moving my body in time with his thrusts — so every time he thrusted forward, my hips and ass would be pulled closer to him. “Fuck baby, I’m so close,” he groaned and I turned my head to see him biting his lips with his eyes staring directly into mine.
Unconsciously, I found myself clenching hard due to his intense gaze, it seemed to do the trick for shortly after he stopped thrusting and pushed all the way inside me. Hands loosening their grip on my hips, he groaned out loud as I felt his warm release spill inside me. I found myself panting following his release — thinking that this was over and that I would be able to get back to work. However, it seems like that was not what the Avenger had in his mind.
Sam pulled out of me and sat on one of the conference chairs, he was watching my move to wear my discarded panties when he interrupted me from doing so, “Don’t think I’m done with you, baby girl. Come over here and show me what that beautiful mouth can do.”

landing in your heart: failing
Tumblr media
han jisung
genre: angst, slight fluff
word count: 1.8k
warnings: location is in north korea, kissing, y/n gets lost in the dark, mentions of suicide at the end, not proofread, grammar mistakes, if theres anything i missed, lmk!
summary: as jisung helps y/n escape north korea, the plan was ruined. however, y/n has other plans to escape which leds to something that shouldnt happen.
note: i rushed :p
part four of landing in my heart
landing in my heart information
Tumblr media
“were here to see your honesty and see if you’re trading goods or smuggling humans to other countries” “why would i do that?” the police stomps on the blue hallow board, which was where you and jisung were hiding.
“open up!” was what you both heard underneath. “jisung! what do we do?! you’re a soldier you should know what to do. geez” you silently yelled out. “in south korean dramas-” “what?! this is no time to talk about this” you freaked out. “i’m going to do something. now look at me and don’t be startled. look at me and nothing else”
with that, jisung slams his lips into yours as the door opened.
“o-oh- what is that?” the police asks the man and closes the board. “huh? open it back up”
as the police opens it up again, jisung slams his lips onto yours. as they told you guys to get out, they police asks for jisung’s id. “ah, you guys shouldn’t be doing that here. alright, turn the boat around”
turning the boat back to the shore, you were about to protest of how close you were to getting home. with tears slowly falling down, you dropped onto your knees as jisung looked at you with sad eyes.
Tumblr media
back at jisung’s home, you two separated. jisung went to his room as you went to the living room to sleep. jisung sat on his floor and thought about ways on how to help you get back home safely. his thoughts was disturbed as he heard the front gate opening then slamming shut.
jisung quickly runs out of his room and sees the blankets folded nicely with a note on top.
‘thank you for everything. i dont want to cause anymore trouble for you so im going to find my own way on getting back home’
dropping the note, jisung quickly finds traces of where you might be.
-
“alright, i cant just stand here and wait. i need to do something.” you say then grab your walkie talkie. “this is y/n one, this is y/n one. if you can hear me, please say yes” hearing nothing, you assumed it’ll work on the way back home.
jisung finds you on a mountain with your paraglider, ready to take off. “yoon y/n!” jisung yells your name out. ‘huh?’ you thought. how did he find you so quick?
“h-how did you-” “y/n- what are you doing?” jisung asks while catching his breath. “i’m going to paraglide down” you answered. “huh? you cant! you’ll get seen with a naked eye and get shot, no matter if you land in the south or north” being shocked with jisung’s reply, he noticed your walkie talkie was still on.
“how long was this on for?”
Tumblr media
the security department got an alert from the mountains. cheolgang rushes to go to the mountain that you were on which makes you scared that this spot that you are standing, will be your death spot.
suddenly, jisung brings you towards the edge, hugs you tightly and jumps off the mountain. “hold on tight” you told him. “im sorry about earlier, i was just frustrated and angry. in fact, i’m grateful of everything.” you hugged him tighter as jisung did the same, feeling some type of way inside his chest.
later that day, jisung went to the market as you were resting in his house. asking for the sales man for coffee beans, remembering that you wanted to relax with coffee, and gives him money and thanking him. manbok is also at the market, buying food for his family. before he could pay, robbers came by and stole his wallet.
jisung sees what happens and quickly runs towards where the robbers are running. after running, he runs towards the gang and ends up fighting with them. one of the gang members, who wasnt involved with the fight, moved behind jisung and almost stabbed jisung- until manbok shows up and stops the guy before stabbing jisung.
“i dont know how to thank you” manbok says. “no, its okay. theres a lot of pickpockets around here so just be careful next time.” manbok nods his head as jisung goes on his own way.
-
currently at the house, you discus with company 5 that you hope jisung will get promoted soon so that you can go home quickly. hearing the knock on the gate, you leave they guys and check to see who it is.
opening the gate, she sees the neighborhood women, asking if she wanted to come to young-ae’s birthday at her house. you thought about it and figured out you wanted to show them what fashion is actually. “mhm, ill meet you ladies over there soon” you smiled and closed the gate.
telling the boys where you were going, they left as soon as you did.
Tumblr media
“young-ae unnie, what a lovely dress you have on” you greeted youngae. “u-unnie?” the other women asked in shock. “ah thank you, wait whats your name?” youngae ask. “o-oh uhm its yejin” you replied, feeling bad that you lied.
during the whole celebration, you showed youngae and the others your fashion senses on youngae and with everyone amazed, you’ve finally made the women minds change about you.
-
while you were out with the ladies, jisung visits the repair unit facility. he asks for a sample of the metal the was used for the trucks and then thanks the worker. returning home, company five lets him know that you went to youngaes house when jisung calls them about your whereabouts.
heading to youngaes house, he hears the happy voices. knocking on the door, youngae gets up and sees who it is. “ah, captain han, what are you doing here?” youngae asks. “im here to pick up my fiancee” he replies. as soon as jisung says that, you pop up behind youngae.
waving a goodbye to the others, you walk with jisung, both of you two smiling. spending some time with each other, you felt some type of way towards jisung, but you couldnt put your finger on it. ‘was it, love? no, it cant be. you cant be falling in love in north korea’ you thought.
back in south korea, your dad annouces that sehyeong will take over the family business, which results sejun and sanga angry. with this plan, the two brothers had another argument about this.
Tumblr media
after the night full of fun activities, the morning came once again. jisung gets up before you and brews you a cup of coffee.
you wake up to the smell of coffee and immediately get up and run over to the kitchen. “here, try this” jisung hands you the cup of coffee. tasting the coffee, you felt as if it was the best coffee you’ve ever tried. thanking jisung, you shot him with heart with you fingers. “w-wait what did you just do?” jisung panics. “mm nothing, just a thank you” you told him and went on your day.
jisung, who is left alone in the kitchen, is confused of what you just did to him. he tries to do the heart on his on fingers and stops immediately and heads to the base.
“yah, hyunjin, felix, what does this mean?” jisung asks and does the finger heart. “oh my god, it means she disrespects you all the way.” hyunjin gasps dramatically, which make jisung slap him on the shoulder. “no, it just means she love you. and she wants you to have her heart” felix answers.
jisung sighs and tells hyunjin and felix to leave him alone for awhile.

currently in pyongyang. yiseo is out with her mom and uncle, shopping for a outfit. she runs into her long time friend after 10 years of studying aboard. “yiseo! how are you?” her friend asks. “i’m doing well, what about you?” “ah i’m doing well too, c/n, say hello to yiseo!”
“oh my god! myeongseok look at the baby!” yiseo’s mom exclaimed. “hi there baby” yiseo dropped to the child’s height and and smiled. “yiseo-ah, when will you have one with jisung?” “o-oh i haven’t-” “they’re about to be married” yiseo mom comes in. “i’m sorry, but we have to go”

as jisung left the house, the neighborhood women came to the house and asked if you wanted to go the market with them. wanting to leave the house desperately, you agreed as the four of you happily went to the market together.
asking youngae where the beauty products are, she leads you to the booth. the seller shows them the variety of products from the south. one of the products caught your eye which was one of your product, la vie en rose. “omo, youngae unnie, you should get the la vie en rose one”. youngae nods her head and buys one for everyone.
meanwhile in south korea, chansik talks to sehyeong, saying that you might've flew into north korea and everyone should start looking over there. sehyeong doesn't believe what they just said so he quickly dismisses the meeting, making sure they don’t spread any rumors which deflates chansik, wanting to find where his boss is.
back in north korea, yiseo was on her way to the village where jisung was staying. as the taxi breaks down, the driver apologizes and went to look for help. as minseok comes back from hunting, he sees yiseo almost having a breakdown. he decides to help her and make her way to jisungs.
in the state security department, cheolgang does his research about division 11, suspicious of your actions and behavior. “there was no other women in division 11 who has returned in 15 years sir” one of the soldiers tells him. cheolgang sighs in defeat, trying to know you better. wanting to know how and why you're here.
during the time at the market, you left the group as another stand caught you eye and walked around the market. as soon as the sky became dark and nobody in the market with you, you started panicking, and become cold. jisung comes back to the village with a bag in his hand and the neighborhood women comes to tell him that they lost you in the market.
jisung rushes over to the market, noticing that it was full of darkness. he takes out one of the scented candles he had bought for you earlier and lit it up, putting the candle over his head.
looking up, you see a candle in the air. walking towards it, you see jisungs back. “j-jisung?” you whispered. jisung turns his back and feels relieved. jisung quickly wraps his arms around you as you sobbed into his chest.
“thank you for saving me”

additional ending:
in switzerland, you were about to jump off a cable bridge after the doctor told you to go sight seeing before you really wanted to end your life. ending the voice message to send to your family, a guy looked at you, who was supposedly named jisung.
yiseo, who followed him to switzerland, wanted to take a picture of her and jisung. jisung asks you if you could take it for them, wanting you to get off the bridge before you finally do it.
“he could do better” you mumbled as you you snapped their picture. after the picture was taken, yiseo thanked you. you smiled and walked away as jisung watched you, wanting to tell you that everything will be okay.

“We’re gonna have to start closing up soon,” you murmured, leaning down to massage your calf, beginning to feel sore after what felt like a whole day of standing.
It was your faculty’s turn to raise money for underprivileged students in your school to start the second half of the semester, the classes in your department setting up various booths ranging from food and beverage to booths like yours, selling customized handmade bracelets.
“You look tired,” one of your friends told you, earning a wholehearted nod from you.
“Very.”
Laughing, she shook her head at you, handing you the file containing your money collected from your sales, “D’you mind helping us collate this? We’ll go grab the rest of our bags and stuff from the lounge.”
You nodded, getting your phone out and kneeling at the table, dividing the money by quantity and starting to key in your phone calculator, your train of thought getting interrupted when you’d received a text from your friend Xiaojun, finishing your calculations before checking his message.
xiaojun 5:07pm -i can come to ur booth now !-
You huffed, your knees starting to hurt from the rough surface of the floor, typing out your reply to him with your pen still clasped in your hand.
5:09pm -we’re already almost closing ure a little late-
xiaojun 5:09pm -its ok i have friends with money they can donate even if they dont buy anything! where is ur booth-
5:09pm -@ the entrance of the design and performing arts school- xiaojun
Xiaojun 5:09pm - perfect -
“Y/N!” you heard the echo of someone whose voice was so distinctively Xiaojun it gave you goosebumps, looking up from your phone and spotting the boy himself walking alongside two other boys.
You first noticed they were very well dressed, giving you the vibe that they were from the design and arts department, possessing a different sort of charisma that was made even more obvious when they were walking next to a bouncy smiley Xiaojun.
You gave him a grimace, looking back at the list of ibanking transactions, adding up the total of that with what you’d calculated for physical money, eyebrows raised in surprise at the total, not expecting to have raised so much more than your class had initially expected.
“Y/N, this is Ten and Sicheng,” Xiaojun gestured to the two boys next to him, identifying the shorter of the two with short cropped hair with multiple piercings adorning his ear to be Ten, and the other taller boy with dark brown hair to be Sicheng, who simply gave you a nod in greeting.
“Nice to meet you,” Ten had smiled at you, instantly brightening his demeanour as he gravitated towards the beads and string. “Can I make one?” he was already starting to pick up the roll of thread, measuring it around his wrist.
“You didn’t even wait for her to say yes,” Sicheng pointed out with a sigh despite being busy with his phone, causing Ten to give you a sheepish smile.
You nodded reassuringly, gesturing to the materials, “sure, go ahead, we’re already done for the day, anyway,” you smiled.
Xiaojun had made his way around the table, making a loud displeased sound when he saw that you were kneeling on the floor. “Can’t you at least sit on a chair or something?” he clucked his tongue, making you roll your eyes. Your bickering had unknowingly caught Sicheng’s attention, the boy silently observing the way you and Xiaojun interacted as he typed out a reply to Renjun who was currently asking where on earth he was.
“I would if there was any chairs here,” you scoffed.
Xiaojun was about to retort when his gaze flickered to the numbers you were so busy writing down, “Wow! You guys made this money just selling bracelets?!” You shushed him quickly, not wanting to attract unwanted attention, but at the mention of money, Sicheng visibly perked up, making his way away from Ten to the table you and Xiaojun were at, curious to see the amount.
His eyes widened upon seeing the number, glancing quickly at the rates you sold each bracelet for.
“Wow,” he drawled, his eyebrows raising in surprise, “have you guys done this before?”
You were startled to find how different his voice sounded from what you’d expected, low and holding a certain thickness to the sound. Watching him pull the sleeves of his sweater to his elbows, he’d picked up the sheet of paper, analysing it before placing it back down on the table with a nod, looking back at you for your reply.
You knew you thought he was pretty when you first saw him, but your breath hitched at the discovery that he was even prettier up close. Sicheng. Even his name was pretty. You thought Xiaojun took care of his appearance, but Sicheng was on a whole other level.
Realising he was still waiting for your reply, you quickly shook your head, watching how his lips curved into a small smirk, nodding with an impressed pout on his lips.
“Well you should, you wouldn’t even need to get part-time jobs if you just promoted these,” he proposed casually. This earned him an obnoxious snicker from Ten, whose neck was still craned as he made his bracelet, struggling with a particularly small one.
“Saying it like that isn’t gonna make them give you any of the profit, you know,” Ten’s teasing tone did nothing to deter Sicheng, who simply shrugged.
Xiaojun chimed in quickly, waving his finger at Sicheng as he laughed with Ten, “This guy’s like that. He’ll propose the idea and make you do everything else,” he told you, making Sicheng scoff, a small smile of embarrassment on his face at his friends’ teasing.
“That’s called doing business. It’s so troublesome to do all of it yourself, might as well get people to help you carry it out,” Sicheng gestured as he spoke, waving his friends off. You scrunched your nose in amusement, shoving Xiaojun aside so you could straighten up, putting the paper with the calculations into the file with the money and setting it aside.
Sicheng tried not to make it too obvious that he kept looking at you, deciding to pretend to be interested in what Ten was doing so you wouldn’t notice his furtive glances. “Who are you making that for?” he nudged Ten.
“Not you.”
A sharp tut of the tongue left Sicheng’s mouth.
“Yeah, I know. I wasn’t—never mind forget I asked,” he laughed, taking his phone out to act busy with it.
You spotted the teacher-in-charge of the event gesturing for you to start packing up.
“Do you guys need help cleaning up?” Xiaojun gestured at the tables.
You’d started by squatting next to the table, picking up the multitude of beads that had fallen down throughout the day. Sicheng had gone over to help you since Xiaojun had chosen to hurry Ten into making his bracelet so you could pack up. He’d noticed how poorly you were balancing, wanting to tell you you could let him do it but he was interrupted by the buzzing of his phone, getting a phone call from somebody but simply tucking his phone between his ear and shoulder as he continued picking up the beads.
“Y/N,” you heard your friend’s voice, turning around a little too quickly and almost stumbling, anticipating the impact on your bum when you felt a hand on your arm, pulling you steady. Eyes widening, you regained your balance quickly, Sicheng still talking to whoever was on the phone in what you could decipher to be rushed chinese, casually removing his hand from your arm.
“What are you doing?” Renjun’s tone was exasperated, “You said you’d be here 10 minutes ago!”
Sicheng straightened up once your friend had approached you, “I got held back, I’m helping Xiaojun’s friend with something,” he emptied his handful of beads into their respective sections.
“I’m hanging up, I’ll be there in 5 minutes,” he told Renjun, hanging up promptly after.
“Guys, I have to leave, i’m gonna go find Renjun,” he spoke, Ten and Xiaojun both turning around and bidding him goodbye as he left.
You’d gotten up a little too late, your conversation with your classmate having distracted you into not noticing Sicheng leaving.
You’d gone to help your classmates bring back the tables to the storeroom, “So...” your friend drawled, mischief laced in her tone, “Xiaojun’s friends, huh?” she smirked, making you roll your eyes, a flustered scoff escaping your lips.
“What about them?” you raised an eyebrow at her, already skeptical about what she was about to say.
She shot you a look of disbelief, her smile widening, “I saw what happened just now, when the tall cutie saved you before you could fall on your ass,” she shrugged in mock nonchalance.
“He kind of scares me...” you admitted, making her burst into laughter, the obnoxious sound echoing in the empty corridor you were walking through.
“Didn’t seem like that just now when he grabbed you,” she sing-songed.
You shot her a glare, dismissing her accusations with a shake of your head. “Can you stack the tables properly,” you gestured to the haphazard stack of tables placed in an empty area of the room in her haste to get it over with, not being able to help yourself from laughing at her sheer excitement.
“Don’t try to avoid my question!” she waggled a finger at you, urging you out of the room so she could continue her interrogation.
“I’m not avoiding it, there’s literally nothing to say! I barely spoke a sentence to him,” you defended.
“What’s his name?”
“Sicheng,” you replied a little too quickly, making her squeal, “I think,” you added, just to make it seem like you totally weren’t sounding out his name in your head just moments before.
"What?" you snapped, hating how embarrassed her cheeky grin was making you, especially with her shrugging her shoulders suggestively, quirking an eyebrow and smirking at you as you returned to where Xiaojun and Ten were, seeing that your other friends had left already.
“Are you going home after this?” Xiaojun came over to you and asked once he'd noticed you were back. You nodded your head, earning a frown from Ten.
“We’re gonna stay to hang with Sicheng and Renjun, see you on Monday, then?”
Nodding, you waved goodbye to the both of them, endeared when you saw that Ten was already proudly wearing the bracelet he made, “Alright, see you.”
Glad to have made new friends, but strangely curious about Sicheng, feeling like you’d just been left hanging.
===
Thankfully for you, you had friends like Xiaojun. Though times like this you weren’t so sure whether you were so thankful for the boy sitting next to you whining about how late his friend was to meet him.
“Maybe he’s busy or something,” you shrugged, adjusting your legs so you were sitting cross legged, your laptop perched on your lap as you continued doing research for your essay.
“If he’s so busy he shouldn’t have started teaching Ren—oh my god, finally!” your head shot up from your laptop, turning to him with a confused gaze before seeing him frowning at something in front of him, turning your head to spot Xiaojun’s friend from that day at the charity event.
“Oh?” you’d accidentally blurted, catching Sicheng’s attention, making him look at you in surprise, giving you a small close-lipped smile in greeting, shoving his hand into his pocket as his other hand fiddled with his phone.
“Where did you go?” Xiaojun asked, genuine confusion laced in his tone, switching to Mandarin while he was talking to Sicheng. Not because he didn’t want you to understand, of course, but more because he was more comfortable this way. (And plus, you liked to think you had sufficient mandarin knowledge).
“What are you talking about? I told you I was outside helping Renjun this whole time,” Sicheng furrowed his eyebrows, a hint of amusement on his features. You understood the part about him being outside, somehow finding Sicheng’s personality to be rather strong, especially showcased when he was speaking mandarin.
Xiaojun’s mouth closed shut, looking slightly embarrassed, ignoring the knowing look you were giving him at how quick he was to scold Sicheng for being late.
“Oh, okay.” Xiaojun bid you goodbye quickly, Sicheng helping him off the floor and leaving promptly.
You found it strange, how he’d spent so much time in your faculty building when he wasn’t even from this faculty, only realizing why when you’d gone to help your groupmates who were spray painting their crafts outside the lounge, seeing the area usually occupied by students from the dance club practicing now taken over by Sicheng and a petite boy that you recognized to be from your faculty.
You heard the petite boy whine sulkily, looking at Sicheng with an exasperated look on his face, simply receiving a shrug and a smile from Sicheng.
“I never said this was easy to do,” he sighed deeply, looking towards the mirror to observe Renjun, catching a glimpse of you in the background.
You held the collar of your shirt over your nose, regretting not having better protection against the fumes of the spray paint, feeling a little bad for the people around you in case the fumes were too strong that it disrupted them as well.
“This one’s done, I’ll bring it aside,” you told your group members, seeing their nods of acknowledgement before using one hand to drag the long and heavy piece of cardboard to the more airy part of the area.
Sighing, you let go of your shirt, dabbing at your sweat with the back of your hand and looking around to see if anyone had been annoyed by the spray paint fumes, accidentally making eye contact with Sicheng through the large mirrors. Something made you feel prompted to say hello, but you decided against it, looking away quickly and continuing with what you were doing.
You tried not to let yourself get too distracted by seeing his demonstrations of the dance he was teaching to Renjun, trying to focus on finishing your task as fast you could so you could go back into the student lounge where there wouldn’t be a Sicheng to distract you.
Settling for just nodding in greeting to him, exchanging small smiles, you carried on seeing him and bumping into him in your faculty. Each time trying to ignore the way your mind was starting to create scenarios in your head about how you would approach Sicheng and start a conversation in another universe where you were confident enough to approach someone as pretty as him.
Sicheng too had been going through a similar dilemma in his head, debating on whether he would send the wrong message if he were to ask too many questions about you. He wasn’t usually the type to put himself out there or pursue potential love interests, it was just something about seeing you around so often and his unceasing curiosity that was starting to get the better of him.
“Your friend is my age, right?” he asked as casually as he could once when he was teaching Renjun at the mirrored area outside the student lounge, curious after seeing the multitude of things it seemed that you had to do (or maybe, just curious about you in general)
Xiaojun shot him a look of confusion, shaking his head rapidly.
“Oh my god, no, she’s my age,” he laughed, finding it weird that Sicheng would think you were his age, wondering momentarily if you looked that old.
“Oh,” Sicheng said, not realizing Xiaojun wasn’t listening to him anymore, too busy deciding whether you looked like a solid 20 year old or barely 19.
“Why’d you ask?” Xiaojun snapped out of his thoughts, turning to Sicheng with a questioning look on his face.
Sicheng shrugged casually, commenting that Renjun had done well before replying Xiaojun, “Nothing. Just…didn’t know why they looked so busy when I look at how free you are,” he grinned cheekily at the end of his statement, letting out a relieved sigh when Xiaojun had bought his excuse.
It wasn’t like Sicheng wasn’t telling the truth, because you did have a lot of things to do. Making Sicheng just the least of your worries at this point. You’d been so busy trying to churn out assignment after assignment that it was starting to take a toll on you. You hadn’t gotten a proper sleep in what was probably weeks, too busy thinking and planning time for all the things that were yet to be done, the constant worrying ridding you of a guilt-free sleep.
It wasn’t any better that you and your friends had all started spending long hours cooped up in the student lounge doing work; going home later and later as a result. And though many people would probably see that as a normal part of school life, you weren’t one for hustle culture, and you definitely weren’t used to experiencing it to such an extent, the stress from it all making you increasingly sensitive.
You’d been with your friend in the student lounge, with her trying her best to help you think of ideas that you could do for your assignment. (You didn’t think of yourself as the most creative person in the world). Hugging your jacket closer to yourself, you sighed, looking at your computer as you wracked your brains to think of a possible solution.
“I'm sorry, writing really isn't my strong suit, but I’ll try my best," she told you, tilting the computer slightly more in her direction, eyes rapidly scanning through what you had typed so far to see if she could get any inspiration for the other aspects of your assignment you had yet to think of.
You felt a sinking feeling in your stomach when you saw that her mom was calling her, asking—or demanding, it was a very fine line these days—her to come home since it was getting late. From the way she'd ended the call and looked at you, a certain reluctance mixed with sympathy in her expression, you already anticipated what she would say next.
"Y/N—" she started hesitantly.
"It's fine, really, your mom's gonna be pissed if you stay. I'll just..." you glanced at your work, trying to ignore the headache building at your temples, "...figure something out."
“—I’m really sorry,” your friend murmured, picking up her bags and shooting you one last sympathetic expression before leaving.
And now that your friend was gone, that left you sitting on the floor of the student lounge, your back against one of the pillars near the corner of the room. At this point, you'd managed to finalize your ideas, desperately wanting to get this over with, but the more you tried to think the more your ideas just weren't making sense.
Sicheng had just finished teaching Renjun for the day, strolling into the student lounge with his water bottle in hand, spotting Xiaojun sitting at the sofas using his phone.
"Renjun went home already?" Xiaojun asked, earning a nod from Sicheng, who flopped down on the sofa next to Xiaojun, a tired sigh leaving his lips.
"Do you have the stuff I needed help printing?" Sicheng felt a wave of relief upon seeing the clear plastic folder Xiaojun had taken out from his bag, handing it to Sicheng. In the process of leaning over to get his bag from where it was next to Xiaojun, Sicheng had caught a glimpse of someone that reminded him of you with your head resting on your folded arms placed on the table.
"You would not believe what I went through this morning..." Xiaojun began, not realizing he may as well have been talking to the wall due to Sicheng clearly being preoccupied with staring at your direction in concern.
Wondering if it was you, he'd glanced at the time on his watch, confirming the first bit about it possibly being you since he'd noticed you tended to stay in the student lounge later during this period.
"Yeah, and to make it even worse they're making us go to the farm!..." Xiaojun went on.
Sicheng’s suspicions were confirmed even more when he'd recognized the jacket you were wearing, having seen you wear it earlier on in the day when you'd greeted him on your way to the washroom.
She seems really tired, maybe I should tell Xiaojun? she is his friend after all...Sicheng contemplated, coming back from his thoughts to look at Xiaojun blankly.
"What did you say?" he asked Xiaojun, seeing the boy look up from his phone.
"Oh. No, I just said I needed to get going, I’m meeting my parents for dinner outside," he said simply, not seeming to have noticed that Sicheng hadn't caught a single word of his that came prior to that.
Nodding slowly, "Oh," Sicheng dragged his gaze away from you. "Okay, I think I’ll just stay here a little longer, I’m kind of lazy to leave.”
Xiaojun wasn't stupid, he'd caught Sicheng staring at your direction the moment he'd grabbed his bag, figuring he would let things flow and wait for the (much expected) updates he was likely to get from you the next day. Eyeing Sicheng suspiciously, he nodded, "Bye, see you," he waved, slinging his bag over his shoulder and leaving.
Sicheng frowned when he'd looked back at you, a part of him growing slightly hopeful when he saw you finally lift your head from the table top, rubbing at your forehead where there was now a red mark, your other hand coming up to wipe your tears roughly.
Seeing as no one else was there, and something was compelling Sicheng to check on you, he did exactly that. Making his way over to you, he crouched down next to where you sat in a squat, the feeling of a presence next to you making you turn, startled when you'd spotted Sicheng there.
"Hey, are you okay?"
Your hands flew to your face in your hurry to wipe the tears threatening to spill, turning your face away from him quickly, pretending to be busy and picking up your drink that had been neglected for God knows how long to take a sip. Ignoring the way the drink tasted diluted now from all your ice having melted, you turned back to him, holding a thumbs up with a small smile.
"Yeah, fine," you managed to muster out, trying to even out your breathing and calm yourself down.
“Uhhh...” he glanced at your face, searching your expression, noticing how your eyes got teary when you looked back at what was on your laptop screen, “hold on,” he murmured, and you tried not to let yourself get too nervous at his proximity.
Sicheng let his legs fold under him, resting his hands on his thighs as he inspected what was on your computer, receiving a pleasant surprise when he’d realized he’d done this module before.
“Do u need help? I did this module last year,” he told you, making your eyes widen, wondering just what you did in your life to warrant you such kindness from a stranger (or acquaintance, if you were being generous).
You shot him a hesitant look, feeling embarrassed if you were to ask someone you barely knew to help with your assignment.
“Honestly, I just need to know if my ideas make sense, because I’m really rushing for time right now and every time I look at them again it just feels like I’m talking a whole lot of bullshit so I’m literally stuck because I can’t think of anything else,” you rambled, out of breath when you were done.
Not that Sicheng minded your rambling, since the boy was more focused on reading whatever you had on your computer screen, his eyes squinting as he concentrated.
In your assumption that he was squinting because he couldn’t see the words well, you’d made the words a lot bigger, making him let out a small huff of laughter.
“Thanks,” he whispered, continuing to read.
“Okay,” he turned to you with a small huff, “it’s really not as bad as you’re making it sound,” you frowned at his wording.
“So it’s bad?” your lips parted in dismay.
He giggled softly, shaking his head, “No, it’s not. After reading it, I can see that you’ve sort of got all your points here, you just need to find a way to pitch them, like...sell it, you know?”
You nodded slowly, looking back at what you’d written. Sicheng figured he’d better guide you through it since your expression remained lost as your hands hovered over your keyboard, not quite knowing how to start.
“Okay, how about, you just try to follow this structure while writing and I’ll guide you as you go, how does that sound?”
You nodded, thoughts wandering to how surreal all of this seemed to you. You already had an interest in Sicheng from all your previous encounters in school, and to have him here now offering to help you with your work just seemed a little too good to be true, like what you’d imagined would only happen to you in another universe but you figured since it was already happening you should put it to full use, nodding at him (it was clear your priorities were a little mixed up now that Sicheng was in the picture).
Sicheng gave you a sweet smile, relieved that you hadn’t rejected his offer. Not wanting to get carried away, he’d immediately started giving you prompts for your first idea. Doing as he told you to, you were surprised at how quickly you were able to get your assignment done. This was of course aside from the time you spent being distracted by his proximity while he pointed at your screen once in a while to tell you what you could do while you were ‘stuck’.
Attributing your success to him having done this subject before, you’d finished way earlier than you expected. However, just glancing at the clock you felt the dread creeping up on you as you thought of what other assignments you had left to do, your long-awaited rest just seeming to grow further and further away from you.
Sicheng leaned back in his seat, resting his elbow on his knee as he looked at you, a small smile playing at his lips as he saw the way you let out a relieved sigh as you hurriedly saved your work.
“Satisfied?” he’d asked once you finished saving your work and closing your laptop.
You couldn’t help yourself from nodding vigorously, immensely thankful for his timely appearance.
“I really can’t be assed to think any more about this stupid assignment,” you admitted, making him laugh, shaking his head.
Glancing at his watch, Sicheng looked back at you with an expectant gaze.
“Do you live nearby?”
You sighed, shaking your head as you stretched your arms out, “Takes me about a half hour bus ride? to get back?” you yawned, hands going to cover your mouth quickly.
His eyebrows raised in surprise, “You should probably be getting back, then, it’s pretty late..” He stood up with a grunt, extending a hand for you to take.
Accepting it, and standing up, you let him go grab his things as you slung your bag over your shoulder, glancing at the other people in the student lounge who were starting to leave as well, knowing for a fact that if Sicheng hadn’t offered to help you, you would be still here looking at them leave in envy.
Walking out of the student lounge with Sicheng, you’d realized just how empty the school was at this time of the day, something about the mood of the sky and the breeze you felt walking out adding to your confusing mix of feelings.
“What bus do you take?” Sicheng asked you.
Replying him quickly, you were confused as to why he’d asked when he’d just continued using his phone after that, frowning as the conversation went silent.
“The next one’s coming in 8 minutes,” Sicheng told you casually, shoving his phone into his pocket.
You never knew Xiaojun had such considerate friends.
“What bus are you taking?” you’d asked, seeing him turn to you briefly before looking back ahead.
“The same one, goes to my house as well,” he told you with a shrug, though obviously he didn’t include the part about it being like 20 minutes longer than his usual bus, but he felt like you could use the company, with the way he could practically hear you stressing from beside him.
“You look really stressed—" he cut himself off at the sound of his ringtone, seeing the caller ID had read that it was his sister, “—wait, hold on.”
He held a hand up in a gesture to stop, picking up the call and switching to mandarin to talk to his sister.
“Where are you? what are you out so late for?” she questioned.
“I’m already on my way back, don’t worry. Don’t call me, I’m hanging up.”
Ending the call quickly, you looked at him in fascination, finding the way he spoke enough to put you in a trance.
“Okay, where were we?” he said, his tone a lot more gentle than it was to whoever he was speaking to on his phone. “Right, I was gonna ask you why you looked so stressed,” he tilted his head at you, spotting the bus driving towards the bus stop.
You huffed in half-hearted laughter, gripping the strap of your bag tighter.
“I mean like...you know, with submissions and everything...it’s kind of hard for me to not think about the rest of the stuff I have left to do,” you murmured.
“Do you have a lot left?” he asked, earning a shrug from you.
You narrowed your eyes in thought before shaking your head, “It’s only a few assignments, but the problem is not really the quantity more than the tedious....ness of the assignment,” you hesitated, unsure if you were speaking actual words, but you were glad that Sicheng didn’t seem to mind, nodding patiently as you spoke.
Getting onto the bus, you’d taken a seat between the window and Sicheng, hugging your bag to your chest, Sicheng fiddling with his phone in his hands.
“I’m sure you’ll find a way through it. I mean, if Xiaojun can do it, you definitely can,” you laughed at his consolation, something in Sicheng feeling triumphant at how he’d been successful in making you smile.
“I sure hope so,” you huffed, letting a silence fall between you both.
"Thank you so much for helping me, by the way," you murmured, seeing him shake his head dismissively.
"It's okay, you don't have to thank me," he laughed.
"No, I do! What are you talking about? You didn't have to help me but you did, so you have to know that I'm really really thankful for that, okay? I like....basically owe you," you frowned.
"Look," he turned to you with a soft smile, "you can worry about repaying me another time, yeah? For now, just focus on getting a good rest at home and getting the rest of your work done."
You hummed, shooting him a reluctant look but nodding anyway, looking out the window at the passing buildings, less clearly visible due to the time of day.
“Which stop are you stopping at?” he asked you after a moment, telling him the location, murmuring that you were about to get off the bus soon, “That’s fast,” he murmured, starting to regret and wonder if he should've used the chance to make more conversation with you during the bus ride.
“How many stops do you have left?” you asked him, seeing him shrug, knowing he had at least nine more.
“About five-ish?” he shrugged, not wanting you to feel bad for him when you were already so stressed from school.
You nodded, “Alright," you frowned at the bus nearing your stop, a part of you wanting to talk more with Sicheng especially since this whole situation made you kind of forget that you had work to do for a moment.
Turning to get out of your seat, he'd given you a shy smile as you tapped out, stopping at the bus stop to wave at him through the window, making him smile at you, waving back but not without mouthing a "dont stress!" to you, holding his fist up in a gesture to cheer you on.
Nodding, you left before your smile could grow any shyer.
===
"Y/N," you heard someone call you while you were in the queue to buy coffee, turning a full circle before realizing Sicheng was standing behind you in the queue, dressed in a plain black shirt, tucked into black jeans, hands fiddling with his phone and wallet in hand.
"Oh, hi!" you said, shock evident in your tone, you noticed the petite boy who you figured was Renjun, standing next to Sicheng, eyeing him suspiciously, before turning to you and giving you a small smile in greeting.
His hair was more messy today, but not the i-just-woke-up kind of messy, but more of the I've-just-been-dancing-and-pushed-my-hair-back kind of messy.
In short, you thought he looked hot.
Brushing the thought away, you thought on your feet, hoping you could find some way to repay him for what he did.
“Believe it or not, I still feel bad about how you stayed behind to help me the other day, can I like...buy you a drink or something? for the sake of my conscience?" you laughed, seeing him tilt his head at you in amusement.
He hummed in thought, "I guess you can make it up to me by getting something to eat with me after your assignments are all over," he shrugged casually.
Renjun looking at him, clearly scandalized, his mouth falling open as if Sicheng had just transformed into another person.
You nodded, collecting your drink, turning back to him with a grin, "I'll take you up on that, see you.”
You tried your best to remain calm, before practically running back into the student lounge and almost tackling your friend with how excited you were.
"What does it mean if a guy you barely know stays back to help you with your work and accompanies you home and then asks you out for a meal after hell week is over?!" your words came out a mile a minute, almost spilling your drink with how she had writhed when you touched her calf, forgetting momentarily how ticklish she was.
"Is it the tall chinese-speaking cutie?!" she asked, earning a vigorous nod from you.
"Yeah! I saw him when I was getting coffee just now, and i was saying like hey, you know, why don't i buy you a drink cause like you know, I felt like I owed him for being so nice to me," you started, your friend nodding along as she listened intently to your story.
You took a sip of your drink halfway, constantly glancing around to check if anyone was within earshot, suddenly embarrassed about telling her what happened.
"Okay, so then, he suddenly says like..." you dropped the tone of your voice to a much lower one in a poor imitation of his voice, "'i guess you can make it up to me by getting something to eat with me after hell week,' and I'm like," you raised your eyebrows, eyes widening and a strangled sound of excitement escaping your lips, not being able to find a word to describe what you were feeling.
"Oh my god....so what did you say?" she asked, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
"I said yes, duh!" you scoffed, groaning at how she'd hit you repeatedly on the thigh after that.
"Do you think I should have, though? I mean, he's like Xiaojun's friend and all, but like still....I don't really understand why he would go out of his way to do that for me?" you frowned, taking a long sip of your coffee.
"I mean, yeah, why not? You could be missing out on a pretty good opportunity here if you say 'no'," she told you matter-of-factly.
You frowned, picking up your laptop and placing it onto one of the stools near you, scrolling to find your work.
"I know, but it's just weird, I mean. No one's ever approached me like that, especially when I don't even know them that well," you made a face of uncertainty to her.
"Maybe you should like interrogate Xiaojun or something, see what kind of person Sicheng is," she shrugged.
You had to say, there were pros and cons to that plan, but you figured it would probably be a good move to do that.
Little did you know Xiaojun was conducting his own interrogation outside the lounge.
"You should've seen him, he was actually initiating an outing with this girl!" Renjun scoffed, looking at Xiaojun in exasperation.
Sicheng rolled his eyes, focusing on stretching before him and Ten started practicing.
"Yeah why don’t you just announce it over the PA system while you’re at it," Sicheng commented, bending down sit on the floor, stretching his leg out and reaching for his foot, grasping it easily.
Ten shot Sicheng a look, "what's your plan?" he questioned, narrowing his eyes at Sicheng.
"I don't know," Sicheng shrugged, Xiaojun didn't seem to be buying any of it.
"Do you like her?" Xiaojun asked, finding it amusing to see how much Sicheng was trying to divert the topic.
"Ten, are you done stretching?" he avoided Xiaojun's question, giving a pointed look to Ten who simply smirked at his friend.
"I'll be done when you answer Xiaojun's question," he shrugged.
Sighing, Sicheng stood up, directing an annoyed look at his friends.
"I wanna get to know her first, okay?"
Ten made a face, trying to stifle his laughter. Renjun simply sighed loudly, "he's gone, just you wait, he's gonna fall in love by next week.” Ten stared wistfully into the distance, causing Xiaojun to erupt in a fit of giggles.
"You know it's true," Xiaojun gave Sicheng a knowing look, simply receiving a shake of the head in response.
"Whatever," he nudged Ten with his shoe, "let's just start."
===
Soon enough (and very fortunately) you were done with your assignments, and though Sicheng still had one major assignment left, the moment Xiaojun had given his contact to you, you had taken the liberty of texting him to let him know you were done with your assignments.
sicheng 7:53pm -congrats, r u taking me up on my offer now, then?-
He had happened to reply you when you were talking to Xiaojun over the phone.
"What do I say?"
Xiaojun groaned, "Why are you asking me?"
"Because you're his friend! You're supposed to tell me how to approach this!" you frowned, though you knew he couldn't see you.
Xiaojun scoffed, "Sicheng is the least romantic person I know, don't get your hopes up.”
You frowned.
“Then do you think i'm getting ahead of myself with this?" Xiaojun could sense the excitement leaving your tone, making him regret saying that, not intending to have upset you, but at the same time not knowing what to tell you since Sicheng wasn't one to show his affection very freely.
"No, i mean like, Sicheng's just kind of weird in how he expresses how he feels," Xiaojun explained.
"So do you think he's just being friendly by asking me out?"
"I don't know, that really depends on how he acts around you from here on, but i've never seen what he's like when he likes someone so I really wouldn't know. But trust me, he's.....interested," he chuckled, making you gasp.
"Don't lie, are you sure?"
"I mean, forget it. It's not my place to say, i'm not him so I really wouldn't know, he's kind of hard to read if you haven't noticed." The thought lingered with you as you typed out a reply to Sicheng.
8:12pm -only if u want ofc-
sicheng 8:15pm - r u free this week? -
You typed out your reply quickly.
8:15pm -i'm free for dinner on wednesday- 8:15pm -i end classes at like 5 that day-
sicheng 8:16pm -sure thing, but i have dance practice until like 6? u ok w meeting at 7?-
You refrained from squealing out of excitement.
8:17pm -sure, see u then! :)-
sicheng 8:17pm - :) -
That was what ended you up in a popular hotpot restaurant at 7, reaching earlier than Sicheng who had texted you saying that he was on the way.
You definitely weren't expecting that he would walk in with the staff greeting him as if he owned the restaurant. Dressed in a casual grey hoodie and dark checkered patterned sweatpants, smoothing his hair down and adjusting his cap as he slid into the booth you were sat at.
"Sorry I'm late, did you have to wait long?" you shook your head. He wouldn't tell you, of course, that the reason he was late being that Ten was busy briefing him on how and how not to act while on a date.
"These soups are really nice, the rest are kind of weird," he admitted, gesturing to a few on the menu.
"Is there anything you don't eat?" he asked, already writing down on the menu, making orders of a considerable amount of dishes.
"Nope, go ahead," you smiled, looking at the menu and making your requests, seeing how he'd called the waiter over and ordered quickly, as if he'd done this a thousand times.
"You seem to be pretty familiar with the place, are you like a regular here?" you asked, seeing him rest his elbows on the table, covering his mouth with his hands as he smiled shyly.
Nodding with a small shrug, Sicheng glanced around at the interior of the restaurant.
"Used to come here a lot back when it wasn't so expensive, now it's kind of like a once in a while kind of thing, but the food here is great," he told you with conviction, his phone lighting up with notifications but he'd simply pushed it aside on the table.
"What did you do today?" he asked.
"Nothing interesting, if that's what you're wondering," you laughed, "just lessons, we haven't gotten any of our assignments back yet, Imean, not that I want to but-yeah." You stopped yourself, realizing you were rambling and trying your best to ignore the way Sicheng was looking at you, his blank expression making you feel like you were boring him.
Little did you know Sicheng was busy distracted by the way your lips moved when you talked, accompanied with the sweet tone of your voice making him almost forget he was part of the conversation.
"That's pretty much it, what about you?" you pressed your lips together, seeing him look up, trying to remember where you stopped.
"Right, okay. I just had a meeting with Ten to practice for our showcase, which is basically our last assignment but it's not due for another few weeks."
Your eyes widened, nodding at him, "That's pretty cool, do you guys get to choose what you dance to?"
Nodding, he moved back in his seat as a waiter came to deliver your food, giving her a nod in thanks.
"To put it simply we get to choose the song ourselves and choreograph a routine, design the set blah blah blah the whole production has to be designed by us basically, on top of the write up and the oral presentation," he told you after the waiter had left.
"That sounds tough," you murmured, reaching for the plate of meat but Sicheng had gotten to it before you could, "It's okay, don't worry. I'll do the work," he told you, the tip of his tongue peeking out from his lips in his concentration as he placed the different items you ordered into the soup.
"I guess it is tough but you know, it's worth it when you get on stage and feel everything come together and just....you know, dance," he shrugged, glaring at the meat as if it would make it cook quicker.
"So—" you were startled when you saw one of the staff of the place, seeming to be one of the managers, approach Sicheng with a loud squeal, draping her hand over his shoulder as he beamed at her, greeting her before she'd started speaking to him in mandarin.
"Si si! It's been so long since I've seen you! How are you?"
He nodded politely, "I've been good, just busy with school. You guys look like business has been pretty good here?”
She nodded at him with a proud smile.
"Of course! you were right, word of mouth does wonders," she told him, nudging him and looking at you with a smirk. "Are you not gonna introduce us to each other?"
Sicheng smiled shyly getting your attention in english, introducing you to her, seeing her smile after you greeted her.
"Are you sure she's just your friend?"
Sicheng scoffed, "Don't talk nonsense," he laughed, making her let out a sound of disbelief.
You'd managed to pick up on what they were saying, understanding this part since you heard Xiaojun say it pretty often.
"Whatever you say, Si si. Okay, okay. I won't interrupt you two any longer," she drawled, smirking.
Sicheng shooed her away promptly, and you swore his cheeks started tinting pink as he turned back to you and apologized.
"Well she seems nice," you smiled, starting to eat after Sicheng had deemed the meat to be cooked enough.
“How is it?” he asked, eyes widening and an eager smile on his face as he gripped his chopsticks in anticipation.
Upon tasting the meat, your eyebrows lifted, Sicheng mirroring your wide-eyed expression as his smile grew bigger.
“Wow, it’s really good,” you hummed.
Sicheng clasped his hands together triumphantly, nodding his head at you with an overconfident smirk, “Of course it’s good! Since I was the one that recommended this place,” he held his arms up in a shrug.
You rolled your eyes, giggling at his demeanour as he put more food into the pot.
"Did you understand what she was saying?" he asked you.
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion, seeing him gesture with his thumb over his shoulder and you realized he was referring to the staff. You raised a hand, tilting it in a 'somewhat' gesture.
"Roughly, I used to learn mandarin when i was younger but it's been pretty long since then and I lost most of my knowledge, I only understand bits and pieces that i've heard from Xiaojun before," you laughed, the way he looked at you with a mischievous glint in his eye making you feel a certain type of way.
"So you don't understand what I'm saying now?" he asked you in mandarin, making you narrow your eyes at him.
"I feel like you're asking me if I understand what you're saying...." you guessed, eyebrow raising in the hope that you were correct. Your heart practically jumping at the way his lips curved into a smile, nodding.
He'd set his chopsticks down, holding his head up with his hand, elbow resting on the table as he looked at you curiously.
"What if i said you were a rice bucket (饭桶)?" you didn't catch what he said, the way he pronounced words being rather rushed, tending to mesh and mumble his words together, unlike Xiaojun who tended to enunciate his words strongly.
You frowned at him, chewing your food as you thought, piecing together the words you'd managed to catch, "I eat rice?" you asked.
You weren't expecting the burst of laughter Sicheng had erupted in, his deep laugh sounding throughout the booth you were in, making your eyes widen and look over to see if anyone was looking, thankfully seeing none.
"What's so funny about that?" you asked, genuinely concerned, meanwhile Sicheng seemed to find it the funniest thing ever that you didn't understand him, shaking his head at you.
"Nothing, you're correct," he said, calming down and sipping his drink, his cheeks red from how hard he'd laughed, scrunching his eyes shut in a failed attempt to stop laughing.
You'd let a silence fall between you two as you ate, Sicheng was almost done with his food, forgetting what Ten had told him about his bad habit of eating quickly so no one could take his food.
Glancing at the pot of soup, he'd picked up pieces of meat with his chopsticks, placing it into your bowl, something that he'd never done before other than for his parents, his behaviour shocking even himself.
Nodding gratefully but hoping you could hide how flustered you were, you broke the silence, asking, "anyway, are other people allowed to go for the showcase?" you asked, seeing his eyebrows raise.
"Uh-huh.”
You felt your anxiousness increase, having expected him to ask if you'd wanted to go, now making you wonder if it'd be weird if you asked if you could go watch.
"Can I uh...watch?" you asked, diverting your gaze to your food immediately after you asked, missing the way he scrunched his nose up with a smile, pressing his lips together to contain it before replying to you.
"No," he joked, making your head shoot up.
Sicheng giggling at your reaction, "I'm kidding, of course you can. I'll let you know the details closer to the date." he told you.
"You're not from my faculty, right? I was wondering cause you're in our building so much you could actually pass off as a student there," you laughed, seeing him give you a sheepish look.
"Well, I mean, i'm from the dance department but I've spent a lot of time in your faculty building recently ‘cause one of my juniors Renjun asked me for help for one of his routines and it was a good meeting space for us, since it had that area with the mirrors and all," he gestured with his hand as he spoke, picking his chopsticks back up and shoveling the noodles into his mouth.
You made a 'o' shape with your mouth in understanding.
"Which year are you in?" you asked him.
"I'm in my last year, actually. the showcase is kind of part of our graduating project," your eyes widened, realizing this made him your senior.
"Oh," you murmured. Seeing your phone light up in your lap with a text from Xiaojun.
xiaojun 7:40pm - hows ur date going -
You saw Sicheng move as if getting ready to stand, "Where are you going?"
"Bathroom, be back soon," he murmured. You simply nodded, too preoccupied with replying Xiaojun to pay attention to anything else.
7:40pm - pretty good, kinda weird. he told me in chinese that i ate rice for some reason -
xiaojun 7:41pm - r u sure he didnt just call u a fan tong -
You frowned.
7:41pm - he did....but isn't that what it means???-
xiaojun 7:42pm - no omg can u just... google what it means -
You did as he had instructed, understanding why Sicheng was laughing so much when you'd seen what it meant, and just as you'd found out, he'd come back to the table, hands resting in the front pocket of his hoodie.
"Ready to go?" you nodded.
"Also, you're a rice bucket!" you told him, seeing him laugh, realizing you'd found out what it meant. But you were momentarily distracted when he'd walked right past the cashier.
"Hey hey, wait aren't we gonna pay?" you grabbed his arm, seeing him shake his head and continue walking, dragging you out with him.
"I paid already," he nodded goodbye at the cashier, leaving you to fumble for words as he waved the receipt at you as proof.
"What the heck, when?"
Sicheng shrugged, "when you were busy finding out what a rice bucket meant."
"Well, then how much do I owe you?" you asked, trying to get the receipt from him, seeing him shove his hands back into his front pocket.
Sicheng pointed at a nearby convenience store, "wanna get ice cream?"
"Sicheng," you frowned, reaching over in an attempt to pull his hands out of his pocket to get the receipt, seeing him pull out the receipt quickly, tearing it into pieces and throwing it into the next trashcan you walked past.
"What did you do that for?!" you whined, letting him lead you across the street to the same line as the convenience store he was pointing at earlier.
He turned to you with a blank expression.
"Look, I said you could repay me by coming to eat with me, not paying for my meal," he gave you a calm shrug, "plus, i chose the place, wouldn't be nice to make you pay ‘cause its so expensive."
"And it's fair for you to pay?" he gave you a tired look.
"This isn't about being fair, Y/N. It's about me paying because i wanted to, alright?" you scrunched up your nose in distaste, but chose to accept your fate anyway since he was so insistent about it.
"I take it back, you're not a rice bucket," you huffed.
He'd led you into the convenience store, grinning at the wide variety of ice cream, Sicheng choosing his quickly, glancing at the aisle of candy and sweets.
"Do you want any of that?" you asked, watching him drag his gaze away from the colourful array of snacks to look at you with an eyebrow raised in curiosity.
"Are you offering to get it for me?" you shrugged, pulling the ice cream bar you wanted out of the cooler and shutting it tightly.
"I want to," you said, emphasizing your tone to make it similar to his when he'd explained the whole paying situation to you.
Sicheng grinned, moving to the aisle and picking out a packet of cookies, handing it to you together with his ice cream with a childlike smile on his face.
After paying, you'd walked out of the convenience store, Sicheng ripping open the packet of his ice cream quickly, taking a bite out of it and waving his arms happily.
Dear God, please help me not make it too obvious that I think Sicheng’s absolutely adorable.
"Is it far from here to your house?" Sicheng asked, and only then did you look at your surroundings, realizing you may be closer to your house than he thinks.
"There's actually a way to walk from here to my house," you said, seeing him nod.
"Alright, let's go."
"Huh?" your eyes widened, biting your ice-cream in your shock and shivering as a result.
"I'll walk you home." He said, gesturing for you to lead the way and so you did, wondering what about you was warranting such niceness from him.
You let him follow you anyway, shoving your hands into your pockets as you walked so you wouldn’t awkwardly brush hands with his.
Figuring you might as well take advantage of the time you had, you let your curiosity fuel your conversation.
"So, what are your plans after you graduate?"
Sicheng grimaced, not expecting you to have asked him that. At the thought of university, Sicheng couldn’t help but think of his dad, the overload of emotions and information that he desperately wanted to tell you making him eventually shrug at the question, not wanting to overwhelm you with the sheer weight of his emotions.
"I actually wanna go to this acting academy, but of course that's all dependent on how well I do,” he huffed.
You pursed your lips at the implication of his words, "Is it hard to get in?"
He nodded vigorously.
"They only accept a handful of students each year...but it'd be a dream if I actually got in," his voice dropped to a murmur, finishing his ice cream and tossing the packaging into a trash bin you walked past.
"Who knows, maybe you will," you shrugged confidently, not knowing just how much comfort the statement gave him.
Sicheng looked at you blankly, a certain warmth spreading in his chest. You turned to look at him, watching as a small smile gracing his features.
"Maybe I will," he murmured.
“Have you spoken to your parents about it? I know it took Xiaojun ages to convince his parents to let him do his course,” you mentioned, noticing the way Sicheng seemed to have tensed at that.
Sicheng pressed his lips together firmly before letting them part slightly, looking as though he wanted to say something.
Eventually, he nodded, “they know I want to pursue acting and dance.”
You raised your eyebrows slightly, craning your neck slightly to get a better look at his expression, “you can tell me if you don’t want to talk about it, but.. something tells me they’re not happy with it.”
Sicheng let out a deep breath through his nose, nodding at you.
“Yeah, they’re not. They never really…were keen on me pursuing arts. I mean like my mom sort of gave up trying to change my mind but my dad is um…” he paused, a huff of bitter laughter leaving his lips, “how do I say this in a nice way..”
Sicheng shook his head, “He’s just very… traditional.”
Sicheng expected to hear what he usually heard at this point, that his parents only mean well and that they’re just worried for him, but your response was something he hadn’t seen coming.
“So how does that make you feel?” You asked. And sure, it was a simple question but for some reason, it was making Sicheng feel as though he was being wrapped in a blanket and soothed like a child.
Sicheng couldn’t help but huff as he shook his head, “I mean, at the end of the day they’re my parents and I know that, but it still makes me feel.. hurt, I guess. That they don’t want to support me to do what makes me happy and what I’m actually passionate about, you know?”
You nodded, “I get where you’re coming from, and I know I’m not in any position to help you make any changes but…I hope you don’t let that stop you.”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
You shrugged, unsure where your wisdom had stemmed from, but you figured it was from all those sleepovers with Xiaojun where you two could rant for hours.
“It’s easy to let yourself sacrifice things for people you care about, but I hope you never sacrifice your happiness.”
Sicheng looked away, trying to suppress the smile from his face as he nodded, glancing at you quickly before looking away, knowing it would do him no help in trying to conceal his smile.
You'd talked more about whatever you could think of, growing to enjoy Sicheng's company the more you spoke with him, not noticing how fast time passed until you were rounding the corner to the street you lived.
"I had a nice time with you tonight," you said, Sicheng able to sense that you were slowing down, having reached your driveway.
"Me too," he smiled, "thank you, for....your time." Sicheng internally cursed, thankful Ten wasn’t here to hear whatever bullshit he just said.
Your lower lip jut out slightly in a pout.
“Well, I mean, it doesn't have to be the last time we go out....you know, we can still hang," you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding, seeing him nod, diverting his gaze elsewhere and fidgeting with his cap.
"Absolutely, you know, I'm basically free other than practices with Ten, just uh....let me know if you're ever like....bored and you wanna hang out or something," he mumbled, looking up from the floor to tilt his head at you with a smile, your heart nearly exploding with how cute the gesture was to you.
"Goodnight." You waved, seeing him nod at you, waving as you entered your house.
===
You were currently sitting in the library trying to do some readings for class.
Sicheng had just finished his practice for the day and was going to find you in the library, wearing a yellow hoodie and jeans, his hair (courtesy of Ten) was curlier today, since they'd gotten carried away with thinking of possible ways to style themselves for the performance.  But you thought it wasn't such a bad thing. Because after it was messed up from the movements of the dance you had to say he was hard to look away from.
Spotting you at your desk in the library, he'd felt almost endeared looking at how concentrated you were, a part of him feeling overwhelmed with the urge to pinch your cheeks with how serious you looked. This left Sicheng with no other option than to resort to his only method of coping with it: teasing you.
"What are you doing?" he asked you in mandarin once he had reached your table, flopping onto the seat next to you, making you furrow your eyebrows at your computer screen.
"Readings for class," you murmured, using your pen to follow where you were.
“Okay, let me see your pretty face," he teased, making you huff, not understanding what he was saying.
"What does 'pretty face' mean?" you asked him distractedly, scribbling something on your notes.
"Your face," he said smoothly, so smooth you didn't even realize it wasn't what the word meant.
"That's how you say it in chinese?" he nodded.
"Learn something new everyday," you commented, turning back to face Sicheng only to see he'd already whipped out his phone and pressed on his game app, leaning his head on his arm that was resting on the back of the chair, looking at you with a lazy smile as it loaded.
"Aren't you tired from practice? and why is your hair curly?"
He nodded, pouting at you, "I'm tired, but never too tired to win," he said with an exaggerated amount of confidence, making you scoff.
“But do you like it?" he asked, taking a lock of his hair between his fingers, pulling on it before messing it up a little, you had to remind yourself not to stare.
"It's.....nice," you shrugged, turning back to your computer as Sicheng simply smiled, logging into his game.
By the time you were done with one reading, Sicheng had finished his game as well, the both of you getting ready to leave when you saw a girl that looked younger than you approach your table. You were sure you haven’t seen her before, looking at her in very prominent confusion before you realized she was looking for Sicheng.
The first thing that stood out to you was that she'd called him her older brother (哥哥), a term you knew held certain meaning to some guys as you'd learnt from Xiaojun, but not like you were in any position to be jealous or anything.
"I was hoping I'd run into you, do you know where I can find this teacher?" you heard her say, your gaze hardening from the way Sicheng smiled at her, nodding and giving her directions, a part of you wishing he would act colder towards her, but knowing it wasn't in Sicheng's nature to behave that way towards juniors.
"Thank you so much!" she said, beaming at him shyly before she left.
"Who's that, huh?" you asked, smirking at Sicheng.
"Just a junior," he shrugged, the both of you walking into the lift, squeezed at the back behind a crowd of students.
You pretended to be deep in thought, "Didn't seem like it though, did it, older brother?" you mocked, repeating the words of his junior.
Sicheng almost immediately replied, "Oh my god, shut up that was so gross, don't ever say that again," he shivered, trying to hide the fact that he was absolutely endeared to you and secretly wished you would say it again, but knowing he wouldn't be able to contain his happiness if you did.
You gasped, slightly offended at his outburst as you walked out of the lift.
"What?! What's so different about me saying it and her saying it!" you scoffed, seeing him shake his head, giving you a patronizing smile.
"It's really gross when you say it cause you're my friend!" he told you, making you scoff, at a loss for words.
Was this....him friendzoning you?
"Let's just go home." you shook your head, pushing the conversation behind you.
===
"Do you think this means he doesn't like me?" you sighed, seeing your friend shrug, you and Sicheng had developed a routine of seeing each other after classes or practice, even if it meant just hanging out and watching movies, or just him coming over to your house but ending up falling asleep on your couch because he was so tired from practice, but what bothered you wasn't the routine, but incidents like those in the library that made you confused over how he saw you.
Sure, he did nice gestures for you, but anyone could be nice to you with unromantic intentions. Xiaojun was nice to you, but he had no intention of dating you, so how could you be sure about the fact that he was interested in you?
"You can't be sure....i mean, from what I'm seeing he does a lot of nice things for you..but he doesn't necessarily...outrightly tell you things that can make you sure that he likes you?"
You sighed, waiting for your food to be ready. You'd planned on surprising Sicheng and bringing some food to him since you told him you'd meet him in his practice room.
"Don't overthink it," your friend gave you a sympathetic look, "Maybe he's just not that great at expressing how he feels?" she shrugged, making you shrug with her, collecting your food.
"You're going to see him now, aren't you?" you nodded, giving her a grim look. "All the best," she laughed, waving you goodbye as you left in the direction of the practice room.
What you didn't expect to find was to see Sicheng lying on the floor of the dance studio, sprawled on his back, wearing the same checkered sweatpants and a plain white shirt. He looked as though he was sleeping, not making a single move even when you entered the room loudly.
"Sicheng?" you called, not seeing him move, finding his demeanour similar to when you'd seen him the previous week, sleeping off his stress when he was supposed to be fine-tuning the report with Ten.
You set your bag down next to his, bringing the packets of food as you made your way next to him, not wanting to disrupt his sleep but at the same time knowing he had to eat.
You decided to text Ten first, in the hope that it would give you some insight as to how Sicheng was feeling.
6:23pm - hey, how was Sicheng during practice today? -
ten 6:23pm -???? we didn't meet today we said today would be a rest day-6:23pm - why?? did smth happen? is he ok? -
Frowning, you checked the date, it was only a matter of days before Sicheng and Ten's showcase, and you could tell that Sicheng was nervous, especially judging from his behaviour today.
"Hey, Sicheng, wake up," you murmured seeing him frown, his eyes opening slowly to see you sitting next to him, blinking at you before letting out a deep sigh.
Sicheng felt as though he was in some sort of hazy dream, the sight of you and the smell of food making his head spin, not being able to quite remember how he ended up asleep on the floor.
"What were you doing here the whole day?" you worried, seeing him push himself off the floor to sit with his knees up, resting his folded arms on his knees.
"Practicing....I guess," he shrugged, his gaze travelling to the bag containing food that sat next to you.
Realizing what he was staring at, you started emptying out the bag, laying the food in front of the both of you.
"Here, eat," he nodded at you wordlessly, starting to open the packets to eat.
You felt a little concerned at his lack of a response, not knowing if your presence here was welcomed or not, but Sicheng was thankful, even if it was hard for you to see that.
"Ten told me you guys were supposed to have a rest day today," he looked at you and nodded, confirming it.
"And?" you asked. "What part about 'rest' in 'rest day' do you not understand?" your eyebrows knit together in a frown, unsure what Sicheng's take on this was.
"I had to practice, Y/N." he swallowed his food with a wince, and looking down you realized he was almost done with his food. "I needed to just shut myself in here and concentrate. I know myself best and I know that I wasn't putting my all into this the past few practices," he told you, making your frown deepen.
"What makes you think that?" you murmured, looking down at your food, poking at it for lack of appetite, your worry for him getting the better of you.
Sicheng looked at you with a nervous expression, looking as if he was withholding something. What was he supposed to answer to that? oh, because I couldn't stop thinking about you? or oh, because I keep wanting to get it over with so I can meet you after? or oh, because I'm so stressed about how I can't bring myself to tell you how much I like you?
His expression was blank, shrugging as he mumbled, "just a feeling."
"Look, I know, you're stressed, but you have to trust me when I say that I've seen your rehearsals and you and Ten are doing so well!" you murmured, not missing the way he sighed as he reached for the plastic bag, dumping his empty packaging into the bag and leaning back to rest his weight on his hands.
"That's different, Y/N. You're you, and the teachers are the teachers. Not to mention my parents."
You raised your eyebrows in confusion, prompting him to elaborate.
“You're a lot nicer to me than they are," he murmured.
You felt something in you hurt when you heard how defeated he sounded, giving him a reassuring smile, "Hey, when did that ever stop you?" you asked, seeing him look at you, a tiny glimmer of hope in his eyes, shaking his head.
"Stop running away from your problems, man, face them head on! Sleep's not gonna perfect your dance for you," you held your fists up in a gesture to cheer him on, seeing him shake his head with a smile, rolling his eyes as he got up from the floor, nodding.
"Can you help me?" he asked, telling you what he wanted you to look out for, and to help him find ways to improve his expression from an audience's perspective.
You nodded, finishing your food and setting it aside, jogging over to a space in front of the mirrors and sitting down in front of it, opening your packet drink as he passed you his phone, with the song on the screen already.
"Ready?" You asked with a smile, seeing him cast you a unsure glance, leaning his head back with a groan.
You'd pressed play to the song, seeing him start his routine, only when he'd gotten to the part where he had to do a one-handed cartwheel had he stopped after that, wanting to restart.
You paused the music, "What's wrong?"
He shook his head, looking at you with an expression you couldn't place the feeling of.
"Just calm down, relax. You know this routine by heart, just don't think about anything else.." you
saw him nod at you, getting back into his starting position.
"Ready?" he nodded again, and when you played the music this time, you could see how much more in his element he was, letting his movements flow, performing tricks with ease, not to mention the intensity with which he performed, almost like an upgrade from the past rehearsals you've seen.
Once the song ended, he looked at you with a shy smile, smiling widely even as he caught his breath, and you couldn't help yourself from cheering and clapping.
"That was great! Best I've seen from you by far," he gave you a look.
"Why were you so nervous about it anyway? You danced it so well!" you said, seeing him shake his head at you.
"You know contemporary dance isn't my specialty, right?" Your eyebrows raised, making him laugh his deep bubbly laugh, covering his head with his hands. The way he looked at you now was the mischievous kind of look he gave you whenever he knew something you didn’t.
"It isn't? Then what is your specialization?" you wondered, sipping on your drink as he did a small turn.
"Chinese traditional dance," you gasped, almost being able to imagine Sicheng dancing that style of dance, and how mesmerising he would look while doing so.
"Oh my god...can you show me?"
Sicheng laughed, "huh?" his tone was embarrassed, as if he was suddenly too shy to dance for you.
You nodded vigorously, "please, I really wanna see," you clasped your hands together, rubbing them together in a pleading gesture.
He nodded.
"Anything for you," he told you in mandarin, you being to excited to fully process what he was saying.
"Can you reach in my bag and take out the fan?" he pointed to his bag, and you'd rolled over, reaching his bag and taking out a fan that was considerably bigger than you'd expected, handing it to him.
"This is really short, but just something I choreographed a while ago," he murmured, and you swore you saw a tint of pink shading his cheeks as he scrolled his phone for the song, pressing play and proceeding to dance the most enchanting thing you'd ever seen him dance.
You knew he was talented when you saw how he danced with Ten, but seeing him dancing something that he had so much skill in, so much technique and control over, it was like you'd fallen for him even more while watching him.
"Wow..." was all you could muster when he was done, turning back to you and hiding his face with the opened fan as he laughed, the way his tone would rise as he laughed serving to endear you even more to him if that was possible.
"What?" he asked you, making you shake your head, a giddy awestruck look on your face.
"I don't know how to describe it, but all Iknow is that I loved it," you told him, seeing him raise his hands dramatically, bowing dramatically in all directions.
"Thank you everybody!" he said in mandarin, sounding similar to those actors you would see at award shows.
You scoffed playfully, feigning hurt, stomping up to him, with your hands on your hips.
"Why are you thanking everyone! I'm the one who was encouraging you," you laughed, seeing his eyes widen.
Grinning at you, he blew a flying kiss to you with his fan.
"Oh, right, thank you, kiss kiss (么么哒)," he said, making you laugh.
"I don't know what that means but...i'll take it," you murmured, seeing him close the fan, looking at you with a tired smile. The kind of smile you would see in movies when the protagonist realizes he's in love, but in this case, Sicheng was the protagonist, and he was currently kicking himself on the inside because what are you doing!!! now is the perfect time to tell her you like her!!
But all Sicheng could do was smile, his words failing him at the worst of times, leaving an awful big load of tension between you two as you secretly hoped this movie-protagonist-in-love look would mean you would receive a slow-mo worthy confession now, only to get a shock when Sicheng had broken the silence.
"The tickets are with Xiaojun," he blurted, your potential movie-moment slipping away just as fast as Sicheng snapped his fan open, walking over to your bags and wrapping the plastic bag of your trash as a way for him to hide how frustrated he was with himself, scrunching his eyes up with an annoyed tilt of his head.
You were busy trying to hide your disappointment as well, using the time he was preoccupied with clearing the empty food packets to take deep breaths, calming your racing heart every time it remembered how close you came to revealing your feelings for him.
"Ready to go home?" he murmured, standing up and turning to face you, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
Recovering from your shock you nodded, "Yep, yeah. Let's go."
===
"Okay, let's do it again, just pretend I'm Y/N," Xiaojun said, not bothering to adjust his sitting posture, making it very hard for Sicheng to imagine the skinny boy in front of him chewing loudly on his lunch to be you.
Sicheng shot Renjun a helpless look, "save me, please."
Renjun shaking his head at the same time as Ten chimed in, "Me, me! I'd do it a lot better than Xiaojun," he claimed confidently, crossing his legs and straightening his posture, giving Sicheng a sensual look.
Sicheng shoved Ten, groaning, "None of you are actually helping, you know."
Renjun shook his head in disapproval at Xiaojun and Ten, pulling Ten out of his seat so he could sit in front of Sicheng, looking at the older boy with a neutral expression.
"Okay, pretend I'm Y/N, and just try to tell me something you've wanted to tell me for a while now," Renjun said simply, as if it should be second-nature for Sicheng to do.
"For someone who wants to go to an acting school, you really suck at this roleplay thing," Ten commented, arms folded over his chest as he watched Sicheng and Renjun.
"It's not as easy as you think, okay?" Sicheng groaned, “I regret asking you guys for help.”
Sicheng knew he’d only ended up in this situation after he told them what had happened in the dance studio the other day, the boys immediately initiating a plan to help their friend gain the courage to express his feelings to her.
“Focus!” Renjun clapped his hands in front of Sicheng, who had managed to get his expression to be neutral, his leg starting to bounce anxiously as he thought of what to say.
“Y/N,” he started, “well...you know...we’ve been friends for a...substantial amount of time now...”
“Cut!” Renjun yelled, making Sicheng frown, wondering what he said to make Renjun stop him so fast.
“Firstly, you’re not gonna confess to her in mandarin, are you? And second of all, that was the most unromantic starting sentence I've ever heard.” Sicheng sighed, switching to english.
“Okay, rewind.Y/N, I....” Sicheng felt himself start to second guess the sentences he had planned, suddenly feeling like for every way he could think of to confess to you, there would be a nicer way to do it that he would think of immediately after, making him stop himself, sighing again.
“You know maybe his saving grace will be that she still likes him even though he’s not very good with his words,” Xiaojun shrugged, making Sicheng shoot him a look.
“In all honesty, I feel like i’m okay expressing my feelings to her, just that I didn't know how she’d react, like, what if she wasn’t looking for a relationship-”  Xiaojun practically burst out laughing at that, shaking his head at Sicheng as the three of them looked at him in curiosity (and a little bit of concern).
“Believe me, you’re way off if you think that,” he laughed.
Sicheng gave him a look, “What do you mean?”
Xiaojun raised his hands in defence, “I mean, i’m not gonna out her, but all I’m gonna say is that the last thing you should be afraid of is that she isn’t looking for a relationship.”
Sicheng hummed thoughtfully at what Xiaojun was implying.
This thought lingered with Sicheng until the day of the showcase, when Sicheng had been greeted with the news that his teacher had invited his family to watch the showcase, and as if that wasn’t horrifying enough, they actually agreed.
“Dude,” Ten called at the jittery boy who was currently squatting behind the stage curtains, peeking out to search for his parents in the crowd, and silently hoping to God that he wouldn’t spot them.
When Sicheng hadn’t answered, Ten tried again, “Dude!” he called, louder this time.
Ten sighed when Sicheng’s head whipped around quickly, his expression panic-stricken.
Walking over to where Sicheng was squatting, he cast the boy a sympathetic look.
“I heard about the um...parents thing,” he told Sicheng, the mere reminder of it making Sicheng let out a deep breath he wasn’t aware that he was holding.
Sicheng felt suffocated, the murmuring of the crowd only seeming to grow in volume.
“I’m gonna go get some air,” Sicheng sighed, Ten letting him walk out, hoping the air would do his dance partner some good as well.
You had just reached the performance venue with Xiaojun, you were already seated with Xiaojun when you’d started to feel a little thirsty, wanting to step outside to find something you could drink. Already having bought your drink, you were about to make your way back, opening your phone because you’d wanted to send an encouraging message to Sicheng, almost groaning when you saw a text come in from Xiaojun.
Xiaojun 5:37pm - can you get me a water too pls ?? renjun wants a coke -
Sighing, you made your way back to the vending machine, about to take your wallet out again when you’d spotted someone seated at one of the benches near you, head buried in their hands.
Frowning, you wondered if they were alright, pushing the coins absentmindedly into the vending machine as you tried to lean back as much as you could to get a better view of the boy.
The boy had looked up, making eye contact with you and looking away quickly, his hands going up to wipe at his eyes, and you realized only then that that was Sicheng.
Frowning, you carried the drinks in your hand as you walked over to where he was sitting, taking as seat next to him on the bench, looking at him in concern.
“Hey, are you okay?” you frowned.
Sicheng had avoided your gaze, fidgeting with his hands as he shrugged. “My parents are here,” he finally sighed, making your eyes widen, knowing the implications behind that.
“It’s my first time actually performing in front of them...like, ever.”
You weren’t sure what came over you when you reached a hand out to grasp his gently, surprised when he’d fidgeted with your hand instead, letting you grasp his hand and you squeezed his gently, hearing a shaky sigh leave him.
“I want to make them proud. I really do. But I just feel like I’m not ready yet, I don't know why my teacher invited them without telling me I wasn’t prepared for this at all and I’m so-” he stopped abruptly, a sigh leaving his lips as he looked up, blinking rapidly to stop his tears from spilling out.
“So worried that they won’t have a reason to be proud of me after watching me.” he mumbled, his words muffled by his hand that reached up to dab at the tear that had rolled down his cheek.
“Hey,” you started, seeing him look towards you, inhaling deeply as he tried to regulate his breathing, “I know I won’t understand exactly how you feel, but I can tell you that if you really want to make them proud, your job is to go out there and show them just why you love performing so much. You’ve worked so hard up ‘til this point, there’s nothing else left for you to do other than to just show them the result of this hard work,” you told him, hoping your words made sense as you tried to console him.
“Xiaojun and Renjun are already inside. We know what you’re capable of, and we’ll be supporting you,” you flushed, suddenly feeling shy to be telling him this but going out on a limb and telling him anyway in your desperation to make him feel less anxious.
“I’ll be rooting for you,” you mumbled, looking away in your embarrassment, not noticing the way Sicheng’s lips had trembled, his eyes not welling up in tears but his throat feeling as though it was closing up on itself, his chest feeling like it was almost burning with warmth, wishing you hadn’t stood up so quickly.
“You should probably be going in, the showcase is gonna start soon,” you gestured to the entrance, picking up the drinks in your hands and turning to bid Sicheng goodbye, the boy contemplating whether or not to hug you, realizing his contemplating had made him miss his chance when he saw you walking away from him.
Later on, you felt yourself growing nervous as you saw Sicheng and Ten step onto the stage, the announcer introducing them and giving a small background about the piece they would be performing. Sicheng felt it too, shutting his eyes after he got into position and breathing slowly. Opening his eyes again, he’d made eye contact with Ten, who gave him a reassuring smile.
And you were glad to say he had danced more beautifully than you had ever seen before.
After the performance, he and Ten had gone outside the venue after it was over to take pictures with friends who had shown up, seeing you and Xiaojun waiting there, you nervously clutching a bouquet of flowers in your hand that Xiaojun basically forced you to buy.
Tugging at the sleeve of your sweater, you waited impatiently for Sicheng to finish taking pictures with his teachers and other friends—Renjun would joke and say your flowers would be dead by the time they were done— and Xiaojun had eventually gotten sick of waiting and dragged you by the arm to where Sicheng and Ten were, with Renjun following close behind.
“Hey guys,” Ten drawled when he saw you, Xiaojun and Renjun approaching, looking at Sicheng with a pointed look, nudging his head in your direction, to which Sicheng furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
“What?” he said in mandarin, eyes widening when he saw you holding out the bouquet of flowers for him, trying to distract yourself from the fact that the leather jacket he’d put over his performance outfit was distracting you greatly, having already given one bouquet to Ten while he was distracted.
“You guys wanna take a picture together?” you heard Renjun yell, and Xiaojun took that as his queue and pushed you towards Sicheng. You winced as you lost your balance with a yelp, only steadying yourself when Sicheng grabbed your arm, taking the flowers from you with a grateful nod.
“Stop being awkward,” Renjun mouthed with a glare, and you’d fixed your hair, suddenly feeling shy about your proximity to Sicheng, not knowing how to arrange your hands, but thankfully for the both of you, you had Ten on your side.
Sicheng had started simple, by placing his hand over your shoulder, his other hand holding the bouquet, tilting his head towards yours for the picture.
Meanwhile Renjun was hard at work bending down to find better angles to capture you both in.
“Okay..okayy,” you laughed, hoping you would hear that Renjun was done taking photos, but instead hearing Ten’s commentary as he watched Renjun taking photos of you.
“Okay, change pose,” he said, making you and Sicheng flustered, not knowing what other pose you could possibly do, Sicheng with his arm around your shoulder, looking at you with a tilt of the head as if to ask you what pose to do next, making you shrug.
“Should we just end it now?” he leaned closer to whisper, making you nod with a small wince.
Sicheng waved his hand dismissively, letting go of your shoulder and telling them that photo taking was over, Renjun putting his phone down with a huff and you swore he was muttering something about you guys being unappreciative.
They were all preoccupied with airdrop-ing the photos to each other, giving you a chance to properly congratulate Sicheng for successfully getting through his showcase, pulling him down for a hug to congratulate him, your heart jumping for joy at the comfort you felt when he hugged you back.
It felt like you hugged him for the longest time, and Sicheng knew this too, his free hand going up to cradle your head before pulling away, embarrassed that you’d hugged him in front of Ten, Renjun and Xiaojun.
You glanced at Sicheng, searching his expression and noticing how his eyes looked a little teary and bloodshot.
“Thanks for coming,” he murmured, his voice sounding slightly shaky which made him clear his throat quickly, making Renjun scoff.
“Did we have a choice? Ten would’ve killed us if we didn’t show up,” Renjun rolled his eyes.
“Did you tell her about the party yet?” you heard Ten ask, seeing you frown in confusion.
“What party?” you asked him.
His eyes widened in realisation, “Oh, right.  I'm having a christmas party kind of thing, and i was wondering if you wanna come?”
You thought about it, Christmas wasn’t until next week, so you were pretty sure you would have enough time to prepare something to wear for the party.
“When is it?”
“Uh..we wanted it to kind of happen early because Ten’s flying home for Christmas, and I’m flying to China to go see my grandparents for christmas as well, so we were thinking of having it this Saturday?” he asked, and you’d glanced at your phone for confirmation.
This meant you had 3 days to prepare gifts for them and figure out what you were gonna wear.
“Oh.....well, alright then, that’d be nice,” you nodded, slowly recovering from your shock to give him a smile.
“Should I be anticipating your gift?” he asked, making you shake your head firmly.
“God, please don’t. I suck at giving gifts,” you laughed, “should i be anticipating yours?” you asked, just for the fun of it, both of you not expecting the way Sicheng had simply nodded.
“Yes, I'd like you to.”
===
That very statement was what left Sicheng a whining mess up until the day of the party, trying to figure out what the hell had compelled him to say that when he didn’t even have a proper gift in mind yet, almost contemplating asking his mom for advice when he heard her loudly packing in her bedroom.
“Ma,” he’d burst her bedroom door open, realizing with a disappointed sigh that it was his dad and not his mom.
“Your mom’s downstairs,” he told Sicheng, who had then promptly ran down the stairs of his house, finding his mother in the living room wrapping apples for the people she’d planned on giving them to on Christmas.
That’s when it hit him, he knew what he was going to give you for Christmas.
You on the other hand, weren’t having such luck in the gift department. You wanted to get Sicheng something meaningful and nice, but for lack of better ideas you decided on buying Sicheng a new set of headphones. You were familiar with Sicheng’s complaints about his parents nagging him for staying up late whenever he was gaming his parents since he didn’t use headphones, being too lazy to buy them, so you figured you’d do both him and his parents a favour with this gift.
Whereas for Ten, Xiaojun and Renjun (the only ones you actually knew who were going for this party) you’d already settled their gifts. So to any other person, you would have seemed to have everything under control, except, you had no idea what to wear.
Ten had tried helping you, suggesting you should wear something comfortable since it was cold out, but you weren’t necessarily sure how to impress Sicheng with your comfortable clothes, eventually letting Ten pick out for you a simple outfit, even forcing you to wear a scarf over it because he claimed Sicheng would think you looked cute.
So you trusted him (whether this was a good choice or a bad choice is up to you, really), and had brought your gifts, specially and individually wrapped, along with your own little handwritten note to Sicheng, and followed Ten to the party.
Only upon reaching were you truly thankful that he’d made you wear a scarf, it was cold out, and you were thankful that Sicheng’s house had pretty good heating. Not that you didn’t like being in the cold, you were just pretty sure you wouldn’t have liked it as much if you’d gone with your previous outfit choice.
Walking into the party, you’d spotted Xiaojun quickly, walking over to where he was in the kitchen, Ten having left you to greet the other guys Sicheng invited that you weren’t familiar with.
“Hey,” he waved, the sleeve of his oversized sweater engulfing his arm, making him look even smaller than usual.
Your greeting came out muffled as you loosened your scarf, hanging it around your neck loosely instead, “Have you seen Sicheng?” you asked, seeing him shake his head.
Feeling a little more than disappointed, you’d taken a drink from him before looking around the house, realizing that maybe Sicheng was a little more well-off than he’d let on, impressed by the warm lighting accompanying the chandeliers and very comfortable looking sofas, you’d been dragged by Renjun to join their movie session in the living room, only then realizing that Sicheng was there, engrossed in the Narnia movie that was playing on his (big) television set.
“Y/N’s finally here,” Ten’s voice had captured Sicheng’s attention, the boy turning around in his seat to look at you, and only then did you realize how good he looked.
Wearing a thick dark green sweater and jeans that were folded up at the bottom, not to mention his hair was styled up, he turned to you with a wave, patting the seat next to him as an invitation to sit there. In your attempt to get over your shock over his outfit, you took your time in placing the gifts at the Christmas tree, bringing his gift to where he sat, tucking it between your legs and the sofa as you sat down, realizing the space was tighter than you’d expected, making you have to squeeze shoulder to shoulder with Sicheng- almost spilling your drink in the process.
“Are those glasses real?” you whispered, not wanting to interrupt the rest of the guys who were watching the movie, the younger looking one sitting next to Renjun with bright orange hair eyeing you and Sicheng with a knowing look.
Sicheng shook his head.
“Nope, they were a gift from Jaehyun,” he pointed at one of the guys sitting on the floor next to the coffee table, wearing a black sweater and very ripped jeans.
“I’m wearing them because he was so insistent that I didn't like them,” he explained, and you desperately wished he would whisper because the way his hushed tone sounded so near to you wasn’t doing anything in calming you down.
“When did you get here?” he asked, making you shrug, not really wishing to disclose the time you spent in the kitchen hiding from the crowd.
“Not long ago, I was just in the kitchen with Xiaojun,” you told him, the mention of the kitchen directing his attention to the cup in your hand, leaning over to sniff it, his proximity to your face making you lean back.
Leaning back after sniffing your drink, he raised an eyebrow at you, “You drink this stuff?” his voice was surprised to say the least, relief washing over him when you shook his head.
“I don’t even know what it is, I just took it from Xiaojun but it smells like the hospital,” you made a face of disgust, hearing him let out a huff of laughter, grabbing your arm that was holding the drink and bringing it up to his face, downing it in one go before taking the cup from your hands and leaning forward to place it on the coffee table, returning to his original position and giving you a small smile.
“One less thing to worry about,” he shrugged, and you went back to watching the movie, seeing that it was only at the part where Edmund meets the witch.
The more you watched, you felt your head start to loll back, not realizing the movie had ended and the guys were now trying to decide whether to play 2 truths and 1 lie.
Sicheng had purposely shifted around in his seat more to wake you up before you could fall asleep, your head shooting up quickly, catching the attention of a few of them who turned to look at you curiously.
“Y/N, you wanna play 2 truths and 1 lie?” Renjun asked, making you frown.
“I really suck at that game though..”
Sicheng gave you a reassuring look, about to say something when he was interrupted.
“C’mon, in the spirit of christmas!” Xiaojun had chimed in to encourage you, earning nods and cheers of agreement from the rest of them scattered around the room.
Hearing the sound of them putting on a christmas playlist, you’d felt encouraged for some reason, giving a small shrug of agreement. You figured it wouldn’t be that bad.
That was until it was Sicheng’s turn and you found yourself panicked beyond belief, growing more nervous to see what he would say.
“Hmmm...okay, got it, I have someone I'm interested in, I have mistletoe hanging in here, and I’m afraid of heights.”
The boys had immediately chimed in with their various opinions, Ten shooting Xiaojun an impressive look at Sicheng for being so bold with his choice of truths, being the only ones that knew of Sicheng’s...character development. Though they weren’t sure if it was because of the drinks he had prior to that or whether he was simply feeling confident today.
“This one’s easy!” a guy with short brown hair had raised his hand, “The lie is obviously that he’s interested in someone, he hasn’t been interested in anyone for ages,” he’d said confidently, making Sicheng smile, just as another boy had chimed in.
“I feel like he had mistletoe here somewhere at the last party, though,” a younger-looking boy said, earning a, “You wish, Mark.” from another boy with a sharper pitched voice and very pretty tan skin.
“The lie is.....” Sicheng made a cute sound that he’d always done before announcing things, “I have mistletoe in here,” he said, the crowd of boys erupting in shouts and protests at the answer before moving on to the next person, who had seemed to capture their attention for long enough.
“Wanna go upstairs? I wanted to like..give you your present...and stuff,” Sicheng leaned over to ask you softly, making you nod, grabbing his present and following him upstairs, the boys noticing but choosing not to say anything.
Once you’d gotten upstairs, he stopped you for a while so he could go into his room, coming out with a small paper bag and continuing to lead you upstairs, glad you hadn’t taken off your scarf when he’d opened a door to the rooftop, revealing different plants and even a stone walkway leading up to a sheltered wooden planked area where you sat down with him, looking through the transparent glass of the balcony at the buildings of his neighbourhood, finding it cute how he had little lights hanging from the shelter.
You’d sat in silence initially, enjoying the feeling of the cold breeze against your cheeks, shutting your eyes instinctively in your attempt to savour the feeling.
“Thank you, by the way.”
You opened your eyes, eyebrows raising at Sicheng, “Oh, it’s no big deal, I didn’t have anything planned for today so-”
“No, not for coming today. I mean, that too but...I sort of meant for like..comforting me the other day,” Sicheng looked at you, a small shy smile playing at his lips, “I really needed that.”
Your lips parted, wondering what made him suddenly want to thank you for that. Choosing to give him a nod, you shook your head, “I really did mean what I said.”
Sicheng nodded, “I know.” He smiled, letting his gaze travel elsewhere as he stretched his legs out in front of him, swaying them side to side as he tried to contain his smile.
“Can I go first? My gift is pretty underwhelming,” you said, seeing him let out a tiny giggle but nod nonetheless, taking that as your queue to take out your gift from the bag, giving him the wrapped package of the headphones, watching him rip the packaging open casually, his eyes widening when he realized what it was. He’d placed the envelope containing your christmas letter for him gingerly back into the bag.
“Oh my god.... thank you so much,” he said, his eyes practically sparkling with how much he’d liked the present, making you shake your head.
“Use them well, okay?” you murmured, seeing him hesitantly reach over to pick up the bag containing his present for you, only serving to heighten your curiosity for what could’ve been in that bag.
“Okay, oh my god, why am i so shy,” you heard him whisper, making you laugh, “Hold your hands out and close your eyes,” he instructed, making you do as you were told, anticipating your present, shocking you when you’d felt something cold in your hands, opening your eyes to see....an apple?
“Is this another one of your jokes,” you pouted, seeing him shake his head, staring at the apple as if looking for answers.
“My family, uh...we have this like..tradition thing, where we give apples to people for christmas... like....to the people we care about,” he murmured, a shy smile gracing his features, looking up at you to see your reaction, wanting to reach over and pinch your cheeks when he saw your wide eyed expression, gripping the apple tightly in your hands.
Sicheng shivered at how cringeworthy he felt his words were, his hands going up to cup his neck, and for a moment you were distracted by his actions, concern for him taking over your shock.
“Are you cold? Do you want my scarf?” you asked, genuinely concerned for him only having a sweater to protect him from the cold.
Sicheng burst into laughter, looking at you with a raised eyebrow, “Isn’t that usually the other way around?”
You furrowed your eyebrows, only realizing then the context of what you’d said, making you hide your face with the apple in embarrassment, feeling him pull the apple away from your face, tilting his head at you in amusement.
“As I was saying....i would give you a thousand apples if i could, but that was impractical and sounded like a lot of work, but I just want you to know that if I could, I would have. But okay back to the point, the point is that, I care about you...like, a lot,” he paused, pressing his lips together and taking in a deep breath, “and not just as a friend.”
You pressed your lips together in a firm line, biting down on your lower lip trying to keep your composure, shyness taking over you at how close you were to Sicheng, not to mention what he was saying, especially given the context of the situation.
“Was that what you meant? When..you said just now during the game that you were uh... interested in someone?” you plucked up your courage to ask, seeing him bite the inside of his cheek, nodding wordlessly at you.
“Just kinda wanna know if this person’s interested in me too,” he murmured, making your cheeks heat up, wishing he hadn’t taken the apple from your hands so you had something to hold onto.
You nodded, “She is-i mean, yeah. I am,” you blurted, fumbling with your words like an idiot (a very love struck idiot, in fact).
Sicheng nodded, his smile growing wider, and just like that, it was like everything was more obvious to you, the sound of the christmas songs playing echoing up through the open door of the rooftop, to the sound of the guys fooling around downstairs, down to the sound of the cold breeze bristling your faces, and the warm lighting around you both. Sicheng felt it too, and now it was his turn to feel like the protagonist of the movie, now having to find something smooth to say that would make his love interest kiss him and then the story can end happily.
But Sicheng being Sicheng, just blurted out the next thing that came to his head, “Oh, look, how convenient, mistletoe,” he commented, glancing up at the mistletoe hanging from the ceiling of the shelter, dangling over your heads mockingly.
You gasped, “You totally lied just now, that was 2 lies,” you laughed, seeing him shake his head.
“In my defense, I told them ‘in here’, they just happened to interpret that as the living room,” he shrugged, your laughter dying down as he looked at you, fiddling with the apple in his hands.
“Can I..kiss you?”
You smiled, pretending to hesitate, “Let me consider.”
In his offence, he’d reacted quickly in rushed mandarin, “You still need to consider?! Isn’t it just agreeing!”
Nodding at him, he’d leaned forward, removing his glasses and setting it aside with your apple, bringing up a hand to hold it under your chin, tilting your head up as he connected your lips, smiling at how you could feel his hand slide under your scarf, placing at your neck gently, his hand doing a lot better at warming your neck than your scarf did, following his lead in the kiss.
You almost frowned when you felt Sicheng pull away slowly, but he didn’t give you a reason to. Sicheng’s other hand came up to rest gently against your cheek as he pressed soft kisses to the corner of your mouth, then your cheek, letting out an amused huff before he pressed a final soft kiss to your forehead, suddenly feeling like you were indoors, warmth enveloping you despite being outside in the cold.
You’d leaned over to rest your head against his shoulder, “Can we stay like this for a while before going back down?” you murmured softly, practically being able to hear him smile.
He continued in mandarin, his voice not making you shiver this time, but instead, comforting you beyond belief.
“Anything you say is fine by me.”
===
You’d gotten a video call from Sicheng on New Years Eve, celebrations had ended and you were already tucked into bed, slightly buzzed from the drinks you had at your house with Xiaojun and Renjun earlier when they’d come over for dinner, claiming you didn't have Sicheng here to drink your drinks for you so you might as well enjoy it.
“Hey,” he murmured, lying on his bed in his checkered pajamas, resting his head on his arm as he gave you a smile.
“Hi,” you said, giving him a lazy smile, making him raise an eyebrow in amusement at your buzzed-looking state.
“I see you’ve had more than a couple drinks with Xiaojun and Renjun just now?” you laughed, nodding, prompting him to continue, “I know it’s a little late, but...I just read your christmas note you gave me,” he told you.
“You’re only reading it now?”
He scoffed, nodding as if you should’ve known that, “Yeah, of course, I was saving it so I could read it on Christmas day itself...but I didn’t have the time and then the only good time I had was now and now...after reading it, it made me wanna call you because...I missed you,” he murmured, changing his position so he was resting his chin on his arm.
You scrunched your nose up out of shyness.
“Since when did you get so bold?” you laughed, seeing him shake his head.
“Anyway,  I just wanted to check in on you. Had a good day today?” you nodded, telling him all the minor details about your day as he nodded, smiling and laughing and commenting every so often.
You’d listened to the details of his day as well.
“We just finished dinner, thought i would call you now before they all gather in the living room to watch movies,” he told you.
Nodding in understanding, you yawned, blinking tiredly, making him huff. “You should go to sleep now, i’ll talk to you more tomorrow....” he murmured, seeing you give him a tired yet reluctant nod.
“I’m really sorry, I wanna talk to you more because you’re spending New Year’s over there but the sleep is starting to creep up on me,” you pouted.
Shaking his head, he simply looked at you with that same relieved smile he gave you, realizing just how much he liked you, the extent threatening to tip over the line dividing like and love.
“Happy New Year, cheng cheng,” you teased, recalling what you heard his grandma call him, seeing him bury his head in his arm, his laugh muffled but no less cute.
“Happy New Year, Y/N.”
You’d ended the call, and his mother had walked into the room, a knowing look on her face, “Done with your sappy phone call yet?” she teased.
Sicheng simply sighed, flopping onto his back with a giddy smile on his face.
“Ma, I think I'm in love.”

Summary: You are no one special. How could the golden boy himself be interested in you?
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader, Carol Danvers, OFC Kikki
Warnings: angst, unrequited love, pining, shy reader, fluff, awkwardness
Lyrics by Lady Gaga
Steve Rogers (Captain America) Masterlist
I'm falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longin' for change
And in the bad times, I fear myself
She’s beautiful; the most powerful beings in the universe and she smiles at the man you secretly are in love for years. You could never compare to her…never.
Her eyes shine, her smile is bright as Steve tells her something about the latest mission. Carol touches his bicep, nodding she agrees to whatever Captain America is telling her.
You are no one compared to her. Your smile is not so bright, your eyes don’t shine, and you are only a normal girl, a bookkeeper, not even a department manager.
Nothing special, not at all.
During the time after the snap, he talked to you from time to time. You were one of the last people still working at the tower, trying to keep everything together after losing the people you loved.
Not that you had anyone loving you. Single. Parents dead. No siblings.
It was you against the world for most of the time since your fiancée decided he can do better.
Anyone can do better than you…
Sighing you try to turn around, not wanting someone to catch you staring at Captain America once again. Stupid little girl believing a hero like Steve would even look at you twice while talking to a goddess.
“Hey, do you have the latest report?” Your colleague asks and you nod. “I can bring it to you in a minute.”
“You’re the best,” Kikki says smiling at you. “No need to hurry up. I need the report at the end of the day. Take your time.”
She let her eyes wander, checking Steve’s ass out, swooning. “I’ll bring you the papers after breakfast.” You say and she nods.
“What a pity he’s not into normal girls like us, Y/N. Such a sight…” Kikki swoons and you bite back a chuckle at her dreamily expression.
“Why should he be interested in someone like me and you if he can have someone like her, a goddess.” You shrug taking your eyes of Steve, glancing at Kikki who is looking at you, knowingly.
“Not just a crush, huh?” Kikki whispers. “Ask him out…” She adds.
“If I want to embarrass myself I run naked around the tower, Kick… He would laugh about me. Maybe even get mad as I dared to ask him out. I’m not that kind of girl. I don’t have your self-confidence, Kikki.” You gulp as Steve turns around for a moment, almost staring at you with his piercing blue eyes, smiling.
You want to smile back but then you see Sharon and Natasha walking toward him and Carol and you know he didn’t smile at you. Stupid girl…
----
The next hour you spend with hating yourself for believing Steve smiled at you. Your eyes drift toward the report and you decide to bring it to Kikki before having breakfast. You don’t want her to forget about the due papers and get into trouble like last time.
Storming out of your office you bump into Carol, mumbling an apology, embarrassed.
“Hey, I could’ve watched where I walk too. I’m sorry, Y/N.” Carol says smiling at you. Your eyes widen, she knows your name.
“No, it was my fault, Ms. Danvers. I stormed out of the room without looking.” Stammering you glance at your colleague’s office, wanting nothing more than to run away.
“Let’s say we were both blind and ran into each other.” She chuckles now and you smile at her. “Steve never stops talking about your cookies. Maybe you can give me some one day too?”
“Cookies. OH--he remembers the cookies I made?” You ask.
“Sure. I recite ‘these cookies tasted like my moms’.” Carol quotes and you give her a shy smile. “I don’t want to keep you from work. Just think of me if you ever bake again.” Carol says ogling you, licking her lips.
“I’ll keep it in mind, Captain.” You say waving her goodbye as she watches you swaying your hips.
Steve is watching Carol ogling you, clenching his jaw.
----
Back at your office, you open your bag to get your breakfast out. Salad once again - how boring, but you didn’t have the time to make something tastier.
Your door silently opens and Steve steps in. A huge bag in his hands, smiling.
“Y/N, uh…I…” He clears his throat as you look up at him with doe eyes, not knowing why Captain America enters your tiny office. “Ahem…I bought breakfast…shit…that’s obviously…” Steve tries to find the right words, tries to compose himself before talking again.
“Can I help you, Captain?” You ask, getting up to take the bag out of his hands, placing it onto the side table in your office.
“I was just thinking, no hoping you would have breakfast with me, here, just the two of us.” Steve stammers nervously moving his fingers through his hair, messing it up.
“You want to eat with me?” Your voice barely audible you look up at the tall godlike man who looks flushed, embarrassed as he nods. “Yeah…please? Or do you have plans with Carol?”
Now your eyes round and you look at Steve, confused. “Why would I have plans with Captain Marvel?”
“I saw you talking and thought you two are a thing…” Steve chokes out, flustered once again.
“Whoa…I do not even know her. She was talking to me for the first time today. Ms. Danvers asked me about the cookies I baked for you and the rest of the team. She asked me to give her some too if I ever bake some…”
“That’s---phew...thank god. Jesus.” Steve paces around your office, glancing at you. “Do you have a boyfriend?” He finally dares to ask and you shake your head.
“No. My fiancee found someone better.” Your eyes are sad at the memory and Steve takes your hand in his, kissing it softly.
“You see…I’m…shit…sorry. I usually do not curse. I swear. I’m a good boy…” Steve babbles and you chuckle lightly. “Okay. I want to ask you out for quite a while. Would you go out for dinner with me?”
“You want to go out with me?” Not believing you heard right you tilt your head, glancing up at the tall Avenger.
“Yeah. Don’t you want to go out with me?” Steve is nervous, licking his lips.
“I want to…” You whisper. “But why would you want to go out with someone like me?”
“Dont you remember, Y/N?” Steve asks and you shake your head. Not knowing what he’s talking about you wait for an explanation for his sudden interest in you.
There must be a catch.
“After the snap, you were the one keeping everything running. I remember you worked, played our therapist and baked for us. I was always happy to see you coming through the door, a basket with cookies in your hands and this sweet smile. I wanted to kiss you so bad.” Steve admits and you start panting.
“I was just trying to play my part. You and the others are heroes, I’m just a normal girl doing her job. Nothing special.”
“Y/N, you spend your free time cheering me up. Hell, you even did my laundry to help me. I was a mess and you kept me going. I want to go out with you cause you are the reason I was able to turn everything right.” Steve swoons leaning closer to kiss you cheek. He’s gentle, almost shy now.
“Steve?”
“Hmm…?” He stares at your lips as you fist the dress shirt he’s wearing. “Will you ever kiss me or do you want to just stare at me?”
His lips are on yours before you can say anything else. Two strong hands pick you up, force you to wrap your legs around his waist. Soft lips, hot tongue rule your mouth, not giving you the chance to back-off.
Your hands fist his hair, your body grinds against Steve and you press a groan out of the golden boy.
“I think…” Steve pants. “We should have a date first.”
“Yeah…right now?” You ask and he grins at you. “I know your boss, I bet Tony wouldn’t mind letting you help me out once again.
“Then it’s a date…”
“It’s a date…”

prologue
Dr. Sakurai was his epitome of a dream. Temporary, fleeting bliss that left just as soon as it came.
The two months following their confrontation were painfully, excruciatingly silent. She avoided him like the plague and the circumstances failed to change during the nine weeks he spent in the Amazon. He departed with the intent of banishing her and whatever feelings that still lingered from his heart and mind, yet one look at her was all it took for his resolve to crack.
He still loved her.
arrival
The first night marking Dr. Ramsey’s arrival back in Boston, the view of the bustling city from his airplane window evoked a flurry of fond memories. He had missed the city more than he cared to admit, yet, he had come to hate it just the same.
As the plane landed and rolled against the tarmac, Ethan stared vacantly at the distant lights of the city and let his thoughts wander.
Has she been taking care of herself?
Is she still angry with me?
Does she look any different from when I last saw her?
He let out a huff of frustration and accepted the bitter truth. Two months of cowardice and deliberately running from the thought of her did nothing to ease the sting of reality amidst his return to America.
Leaning back against the headrest, he muttered. “I need a drink.”
The next two hours passed in a blur. The doctor disembarked the aircraft in a hurry and retrieved his luggage from the carousel just as quick. Amongst that and hopping into the first cab he could hail, Ethan was unsure whether his haste was just in desperation to get home and rest or to quench his thirst for the god damn drink that airplane liquor couldn’t satisfy.
He stumbled into his apartment and let Jenner out of the carrier, the pet becoming nothing but an obscure whiz of fur as he zipped out of the cage to celebrate the comfort and familiarity of their home.
The kitchen was still pristine, though not without a bit of dust. Looming over the marble counters and to the dining table across the room, Ethan found himself reminiscing over the last meal he had here.
“The fellowship. Why did I win?”
“Did you think it would make me happy?”
“Is that it, Ethan? Do you pity me?”
“Christ.” He cursed to himself, ripping open the cupboards.
A single bottle of red wine greeted him, still three quarters full and untouched since the last disastrous dinner he had with Dr. Sakurai. It seemed to splash delightfully against its bottle as the man rolled his eyes and filled the glass to the brim. Inhaling the aroma and swirling the liquid with a delicate motion of his wrist, he took a sip.
This tastes like shit.
Ethan poured the wine down the sink along with the remaining contents of the bottle, bidding goodbye to the last physical remnant of that tear-ridden night two months ago.
He still needed a damn drink though.
The first step he took into Donahue’s was a hopeful one, and he cursed to himself in disappointment for knowing exactly what, or more specifically, who he was hoping to see.
He quickly scanned the booths and bar, failing in the search for that recognizable head of vibrant red and black. The only vibrance he was getting was from the familiar disco ball that loomed overhead, which made him squint in distaste. Taking a seat at the bar, a voice he could only recognize as Reggie’s called to him from behind the counter, his back to him.
“Welcome, I’ll be right with you.” He said, not bothering to turn around.
“I thought I told you to get rid of that god awful toy on the ceiling.”
Reggie’s head snapped up.
“Two months of disappearing off the face of the earth did nothing to fix that attitude of yours, Ramsey.” He smiled at his regular warmly before grabbing a bottle of scotch and pouring a glass.
Reggie slid it to him across the table.
“On me. Welcome back.”
Taking it gratefully, Ethan rose it to the bartender in a toast for his generosity.
“Thank you, Reg.” He said, stepping off the stool and making his way towards his favourite spot on the patio.
Midway through the exit, the doctor’s annoyance was already stirred by the booming voices and clinking of glass from an unknown group. They were counting down, and to what, exactly? He could not, for the life of him, be bothered.
And then he heard it.
“Midnight!”
Her voice.
“To kicking ass and running Edenbrook-“
Oh God, no.
“— as second-year residents!”
Ethan stopped fully in his tracks, and the eyes that solely wandered the deck in search of a free table landed on a picnic bench where five very familiar faces smiled and laughed.
Dr. Trinh, Dr. Greene, Dr. Lahela—
He exhaled in relief as he spotted Dr. Varma.
So they’ve gone back to being friends.
And smack in the middle, Dr. Sakurai.
Haruna Sakurai.
Fairy lights that illuminated the patio in protest to the evening were strung between poles and trees erected around the terrace. Yet amongst it all, Dr. Ramsey still found her to be shining the brightest. She still had that proper and dignified air about her, and the man was relieved to see that she had begun to smile again, albeit not as merrily as she used too. He could tell that in the several months they haven’t spoken to each other that she was no longer the same wide-eyed, inquisitive doctor she once was.
I solved the case!
I figured out a way to help some people who really deserve it. It’s a good feeling.
What it means to be a doctor? It means fighting the inevitable.
During Dr. Sakurai’s first year at Edenbrook, she had admitted to Dr. Ramsey that she regarded him as her reckoning. Perhaps that was what pushed her to try harder.
“Yeah, you were definitely an asshole, but it was less you that I was scared of, and more ‘This asshole is my greatest inspiration and I can’t disappoint him’.” She rambled on their stroll back to the hospital from Derry Roasters.
He chuckled fondly as he continued to look straight ahead, the corners of his mouth curving up in a ghost of a smile.
“You could never disappoint me.”
She had learned and grown, and Dr. Ramsey was there to witness every budding moment of it. It was then that he realized that she was the one to be reckoned with.
A few tables from Edenbrook’s newest residents, he spotted the bar where he could enjoy his drink alone and in peace. He looked away from the joyous bunch and started towards the empty stools, but not without inevitably passing by the group first. Dr. Greene spotted him, his eyes lighting up in recognition and Ethan sighed in abandonment of any hope of getting to the other side of the beer garden unbothered.
“Speaking of the diagnostics team...” Elijah whispered audibly.
As the others in the group indulged in their gossip about Ethan’s heroic medical mission across the continent, Sakurai tensed visibly. He stopped in front of their table and for the first time in a very long time, she willed herself to look up and make her eyes meet his.
“Rookie...” Ethan greeted her coolly as he broke the silence.
Haruna’s jaw clenched and he questioned his audacity at still daring to call her by her nickname. Perhaps they were both thinking the same thing. How could they address each other– no, even look at each other, knowing that they were going to work together again? Above it all, how could Dr. Sakurai come to the hospital everyday; constantly, ceaselessly interacting with the living reminder that her position on the diagnostics team wasn’t even rightfully hers?
They left things on a horrifically bitter and awkward note, and Haruna’s eyes darted between her friends across the table, begging to be bailed out.
Dr. Trinh shifted uncomfortably, Dr. Lahela took a flippant sip of his beer as he eyed Haruna protectively, and Dr. Varma glared at the attending with eyes ablaze. Dr. Greene seemed to be the only one unbothered by Ethan’s presence.
Haruna breathed in once before plastering on a fake smile.
“It’s good to have you back, Dr. Ramsey.”
The fake sentiment wrenched at his chest, the gaze that once beamed at him with stars and everything bright now replaced with something hollow and resentful. He was careless enough to let the turmoil show on his face momentarily before collecting himself.
“Yeah... good to be back,” Was all he could muster.
Sensing the tension between himself and the five young doctors, Ethan nodded his head once before continuing to the main bar.
“Doctors. Enjoy your night.”
Sakurai’s eyes lingered on him as he walked away, and the holes he felt being burned into his back vanished once he took his very distant seat at the bar. Her friends continued on with their idle chitchat, and Ethan found himself listening intuitively. No amount of distance he placed between himself and that rambunctious group could keep him from overhearing bits and pieces of their conversation.
They cackled and toasted some more, and the strangers around them, be it alone or with company, indulged in their own private celebrations as well. Yet despite the boisterous nature of his surroundings, all he could hear was her.
“I’m a colossal pain in the ass! I don’t want to be responsible for another me!”
And he couldn’t help but laugh.
present
Since that fateful evening two weeks ago, Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Sakurai assumed their normal routine, save for the scowl she tried to hide every time she saw him. Despite the circumstances, he kept a close eye on her as she eased into her place on the diagnostics team, having succeeded in charming Baz with her amiable personality, and June as they made small talk in regards to their common cultural heritage. Sakurai remained quiet and unassuming during her first few days, but she had proven herself to be a quick learner.
“Female, thirty seven, Caucasian.” Ethan began as everyone took their seats.
He uncapped a black marker, scribbling across the board and throwing out answers before the other three had a chance to ask. This was their regular pace, which by now, Dr. Sakurai had grown accustomed to. She certainly looked less bewildered than she did her first day there.
“Reason for admission was pain and numbness in the extremities. Former doctors thought it was...a stroke.” Ethan grimaced and Dr. Mirani snorted.
“What turned up in her bloodwork?” Dr. Hirata asked as she shook her head ruefully. “Did she have a urinalysis done?”
The three experienced doctors proceeded with their swift exchange of ideas, their discussion riddled with numerous ifs, buts, and whys. Dr. Sakurai listened intently and remained silent with her eyes glued to her notebook, almost so silent that Ethan almost questioned if she was even wholly present.
“Negative for multiple sclerosis, but just before she was discharged presented with irritable bowel syndrome.” He continued.
“Could it be fibromyalgia then?” Dr. Sakurai finally suggested, looking up from paper ridden with chicken scratch notes scrawled in red pen.
Baz and June raised their eyebrows in delighted surprise. “Seconded,” and Ethan regarded his protege collectedly.
“I thought so as well. Excellent work, Dr. Sakurai.” To which she merely nodded in response.
Later that day, Ethan found himself strolling down the halls of Edenbrook in Dr. Baz Mirani’s company. He chatted endlessly, recalling the meeting from earlier that morning and shifted the topic of conversation to Dr. Sakurai. Ethan was never one to entertain idle gossip, but when it came to her, he couldn’t bring himself to not listen.
“Did you know that her red hair was a mistake?” Baz cackled.
“She told me that she accidentally booked her hair appointment two hours after her board and came in sleep deprived. Knocked out as she soon as she sat in that chair and woke up with Flaming Cheetos for a head!” The doctor brought a hand up to his chest to ease himself as he laughed.
Ethan stayed silent as his colleague relayed her story. Of course he knew. He knew that she hated her red hair with every fibre of her being, but still complimented the stylist’s work and tipped her generously. He knew that as soon as she got home, she locked herself in her room and cried while trying to convince herself that her new look was symbolic of her “badass-ness.” He knew that she spent the next year using aloe vera in a desperate attempt to grow it out before applying for residency. How could he forget?
“You know, I wasn’t sure what to think of her at first, knowing the whole deal about how she got into the team and all.” Baz conceded and the guilt resurfaced, threatening to swallow Ethan whole.
“Baz, if you’re going to-”
“But she’s really good. Shows a lot of promise. I understand why you did what you did, but I’d be lying if I said I completely agreed with your poor execution.” He finished, shrugging indifferently.
“Ahem.”
A woman’s voice behind them cleared her throat and Baz’s eyes widened in horror as he shot Ethan a quick glance, both men knowing just who exactly had requested their attention. They turned around, and Mirani greeted her with an almost suspicious grade of enthusiasm.
"Dr. Sakurai! You see, this- what I was saying to Eth- no, Dr. Ramsey is that-”
She smiled at him, unbothered.
“You forgot your pager again,” She teased, handing it to him gently before heading the other direction with not another word.
Ethan’s gaze followed her retreating form, pain stricken. He was almost jealous of Baz, even just for a moment. When was the last time Haruna had caught him in a moment of blundering and regarded him lovingly nonetheless? He failed to recall the last time that she flashed him the smile that no one else could bring to her face but him. The kind where the corners of her eyes crinkled and she had to bury her face in her hands because she was too embarrassed to show that face out in the open. It was one of the many things that made him fall in love with her, and continue to love her all the same.
He missed her. More than he could have ever imagined possible.
Dr. Mirani exhaled in relief as she left. “Well! That could have gone a lot worse than I- Dr. Ramsey?”
And, before he realized where his feet had begun to take him, he went after her. He couldn’t let things continue like this. He couldn’t stand it.
“Wait, Rookie-”
The large strides that Ethan took to catch up to Dr. Sakurai in the empty hall were not many. Her steps were small but filled with purpose, and her heels that clacked mercilessly against the slate floor stopped abruptly. She turned to face him, and the second Haruna’s eyes met his, he was only reminded of the newfound hatred ulcerating at her very core.
She raised an eyebrow. “Not a rookie anymore, Doctor.”
The lack of emotion in Dr. Sakurai’s voice as she addressed the man stung. He should be used to this. He should have foreseen this. But one year of knowing and loving her could never have prepared Ethan for her villainously petty demeanor finally directed at him. Two weeks since she said his name in a voice dripping with venom, and she hasn’t dared to utter it since.
Always, “Yes, Doctor,” or, “Noted, Doctor.” It was driving him insane.
“Dr. Ramsey.” He attempted, his tone dribbling with an impatience he didn’t realize had been brewing.
“Doctor.” She challenged.
He looked at her, a muscle in his jaw twitching in annoyance. She looked at him, arms crossed and adamant on winning whatever contest it was that they had engaged in. And they stayed like that, for several seconds until a group of interns passing by and regarding them with curiosity forced them to look away. Dr. Sakurai closed her eyes and exhaled once, gathering herself before maneuvering her way around the older doctor.
“Excuse me.”
He watched her as she side-stepped him, about to continue her journey to her destination if he didn’t gently take her by the wrist and pull her into the medicine supply room. The very same one they hid in when they still kept Naveen a secret.
“W-What are you– Don’t fucking touch me.” Dr. Sakurai hissed once they had entered, jerking her hand from his grip.
“Are you going to be like this every time you see me?” Ethan pinched the bridge of his nose and looked up to the ceiling.
“If we’re being honest? Yeah, yeah I am.”
“I meant it when I said I was sorry.”
“And I meant it when I said sorry wasn’t good enough.”
“Look at yourself, Sakurai.” Ethan scoffed.
“Petty like a child. Did you think your official status as a resident would suffice in masking this juvenile drivel or should I just throw you back in with this year’s batch of interns?”
Haruna stared at him blankly, and just for a moment he felt his chest tighten. Her resentful gaze made him miss the way they once were, and he ached for her to look at him the way she used to, but Ethan’s lamenting was cut short as Sakurai’s mouth twitched. A failed attempt to contain herself before she burst into bitter laughter.
“You can do that, can’t you?” She asked disdainfully.
“Give one of them my position while you’re at it. The same way you gave it to me.”
He took a step toward her and she stayed put, refusing to be intimidated by the man that stood just over six inches taller. Then they were achingly close, the distance between them so small that her shoes were flush against his own. So small that Haruna couldn’t help but inhale the scent of musk and Italian cypress from his cologne. Ethan looked down at her angrily and the younger woman looked back up at him with a fire just as intense.
“You might hate the means of how you got here, Dr. Sakurai, but the deed is done. There’s nothing you can do to change it so I strongly suggest getting over your vendetta against me and doing what you’re supposed to do.”
“Yeah? And what might that be?”
“Your damn job, for one!”
She finally stepped back, struck, and looked at him as if she was seeking clarification.
“My job? My job?!” She asked angrily, her voice raised in a crescendo.
Her jaw hung open as she stared at the floor in disbelief, scoffing as she processed Ethan’s last statement. The second seemed to last far too long before Haruna finally met his gaze. Her lip quivered as she shot him a look of pure, utter disgust.
“I took you for many things, but a hypocrite was never one of them.” She spat and Ethan felt his glare soften in realization.
You came here to fix things, and now look at what you’ve done.
“Rookie-” He began, his tone considerably weaker.
“Don’t. You don’t get to call me that. Not anymore. I’ll see you on the floor, Dr. Ramsey.”
She left, and any hidden meanings to whatever relationship they had departed with her. He was no longer an Ethan Ramsey to her, and she was no longer a Haruna Sakurai to him.
She was just a resident. He was just her boss. And this unpalatable truth broke him.

I just got it in my head to cut my hair. Not the length but all my layers had grown out and my ends felt fried. So that was fun. Today was incredibly busy but honestly just a really good day
I slept okay enough. And I woke up a little before my alarm. I bothered James for a bit but I got up and made the bed and went to get ready. I felt pretty cute. And I was looking forward to my day.
And I was totally right that Chris was going to throw me in a group so I had to stick up for myself. And I got exactly what I wanted. I was with a group all morning and working on prep and having that one class in the afternoon. Charlotte is wonderful and was okay with it and that made my life so much easier.
The kids I had today were excellent. Could not have asked for a better group. I brought string and clay and looms over and they were so excited to learn. Most of the girls (and one of the boys) spent the whole morning making bracelets.
They were such good listeners though and so easy to work with. We went to "the museum" which is a little library room in the lodge, to return books and help clean up, and to get a few other books. And then back to the art shed to hang in the hammocks and play with clay and work on bracelets. It was just so chill.
We went up to horsemanship and we were a little early but that was alright. We hung out at one of the picnic tables and then one of the dachshund dogs, Baily, came over and after all the kids pet them one of the boys were like "Hands off!!! It's Ms Jesse's turn!" which I didnt even ask for but was so sweet.  So I sung the panda bear song to Baily and the kids thought it was so cute and then Baily wouldnt stop following me. Adorable.
We headed out and said goodbye to the horses and took the secret trail back to the fort. We had lunch. I had them all eat at their own bunk and then we cleaned everything after. And since we had some time before the pool I was like. We will go hang in the hammocks some more.
But then I got a call that some of the kids were getting picked up right then. Get them ready, get them outside. Weird. It was going to storm later but like. The sky was clear now, so this wasnt an early pick up.
But they left and I took the remaining 5 to the art shed to chill until Charlotte came for them. Which is when Charlotte told me that all the kids that were in one counselor's group last week were going home because she was sick. My heart was racing. I had to go sit down. Apparently the health department says were good as long ad those kids left until results came back. But jeez. Alexi had a conversation with me later and it seems like its going to be okay. That its just a cold. But man. Its scary to think about. I am so worried about everything all the time and that was not good for my heart.
The rest of the day was supposed to be prep. And it was but it was also just so busy!! I had the kids from yesterday come back and they continued to be very small and silly and sweet. They painted and enjoyed the hammocks and I worked on some prep. It was good.
Once they left I got to work on my worry jar example. The material Heather got for me to do it seems to be perfect. I am excited to experiment with it more. But I wasnt sure how long it would take to dry so I decided to take it on a walk around camp. Show Heather. She was very excited and thought it looked super cute.
I made a stop at the trading post and asked if some teens had free time they come help me sort out strings. And Olive was like. My teens!! They will help!! We have nothing to do!!
So I was like. Uncomfortable because I hate asking for help. But I sucked it up and they honestly were just wonderful. They were so super helpful. They were silly. They were there with me for a few hours and they made things look so neat and clean. Olive mostly dealt with embroidery floss, some of the girls did the yarn, one girl did the sewing box. The boys were given the task of smashing tiles for mosaics and they were having way to good of a time. It was so silly. But because they were all doing those things I could just work on setting up things for the next few days and next week. Amazing.
I started getting a head ache though. The sky was getting dark and there was thunder. I think the pressure in the atmosphere was giving me a head ache. But I was in such a good mood with this group of kids. We somehow ended up talking about periods and abusive relationships and body piercings? They had good questions and I dont mind explaining things. They were sweet.
Once they finished cleaning things up, they headed out. I was pretty tired. I hadnt taken a real break today. Busy busy busy. So I spent the next half hour just laying in the hammock. But then I felt guilty so I finished cleaning and went to the office.
But soon it was time to leave. I had a head ache and I was worried about the rain. And the rain did hold off. Until about half way through my drive home. It came down hard. And people still dont seem to understand that I CANNOT SEE YOU if your lights are off!!! So it was slow going but I got through the rain and it was dry the rest of the way home.
When I got back here James was out. He was getting us veggies for dinner and was home before I jumped in the shower.
I felt a lot better once I was clean and in pjs. James made us a lovely pasta dinner. And I played animal crossing. Said goodbye to Keaton, our first campsite villager, who is finally moving away. I hope we get a good friend next.
We have just been hanging out since then. I cut my hair. And now I am going to go get ready for bed. I hope we all sleep well tonight. I hope tomorrow is a wonderful day for you all. Goodnight my friends!!

-y/n pov-
It was like these old stories.
Jisung and I were friends since kindergarten.
We were always together.
Like you could always find the one by the other, thats how much we really loved being around each other.
As time passed by, Jisung developed a huge talent in producing music and singing and most of all he was an Ace in rapping. I dont know where that came from but I supported him all the way.
Sometimes we would go to the amusement park or to the zoo or to the cinema but we would also just chill at my or his home and I would listen to him producing or recording his music.
He would be like "y/n listen to this new melody I made the other day, How does it sound to you? I want your opinion on it" , and so on.
So, after some time, he met some guys (their names are Chan and Changbin) and they called themselves 3Racha. They were always producing amazing music together (like holy chicken nuggets amazing music). But that doesnt mean Jisung wouldn't managed to spend time with me of course XD.
Since the boys were older than him, they were attending this one special academy. It's like a 'high standard' school, where you learn how to better sing/rap, dance and how to produce songs.
You can only be accepted if youre rich or really talented. So Jisung really wanted to be accepted there by his talent, since so many well-known people graduated at this academy. That's why he trained dancing, singing and rapping, and producing music all day long.
It really was his dream to get accepted there, even though it's 3 hours away from here and he would have to stay in dorms. I know I would miss him like crazy, hes like my one and only friend. Well, I know there are the other guys, Chan and Changbin (I got to know them better but they would be there too). I would be all alone, but I never told Jisung that since it was so important to him.
A different reason why a part of me doesn't want him to leave is that I have a huge crush on Jisung since elementary school (obviously I didn't tell him that like why would I tell him that?!). But I guess he would never have these feelings for me, he is so popular, he's getting confessed like so often, its crazy.
Jisung knows that I like music but he doesn't know that I'm also interested in actually making music.
Every time when I watched the boys producing music and making songs, it fascinated me. I really love singing and by spending time with Jisung, I learned a bit of rapping (no lessons from him obviously ,sometimes I ask Changbin and Chan who got really excited to help me). I also managed to write a few songs, which Jisung never knew. They're all in my little note book, which I carry with me 24/7, it's kinda like a diary to me cuz I write there all my thoughts, lyrics and melodies.
I started to really love writing songs and I would love to be a song writer one day, but my self-esteem is lower than the lowest sea.
I also never told Jisung that I like writing songs or that I actually wrote some. Since he would make me audition too and because of his personality he would wanted me to make it to the academy, even more than him. Since Jisung would do anything for his friends, even if that means he has to step back for his dream.
That's the main reason why I didnt tell him that, cuz it is his dream and I dont want to interfere there.
Also, even if I wanted to go to the academy, I couldnt. My family has not much money and I dont have the talent like Jisung. Thats why Im keeping it to myself and support Jisung with all of my heart.
One day, it was the day of the audition. Jisung went with Chan and Changbin to the place. I was so sad that I couldnt go cuz I had to babysit the twins, but the other guys kept me updated through messenger. It was a rough and nerve wrecking day for all of us.
But like a week later Jisung got a letter from the academy and this little jerk pranked me first by saying he didnt pass, I was so shocked and was ready to fight everyone there, thats when Jisung bursted out of laughter and said that he got accepted. Well now I was ready to fight him for giving me such a heart attack.
Even though he was so happy since his dream came true, was it a nightmare for me, but I put on a smile for him and I was really happy ......FOR HIM.
The departing day came, Jisung and I had to say goodbye "Its not a long goodbye, Ill come back and visit you in my holidays of course", "Well just dont forget me, when you're famous", I said jokily. "How could I forget you, you're my best friend and my biggest supporter y/n, remember, we will text and call everyday" , he smiled at me.
I have to say, he said this with so much confident, I really believed that. At first. We hugged and he drove away and I still never told him my feelings.

In Mind of Misery: Reflections, Part 5
[Forward:  Since the end of “In Depths Below” the Nine have been busy trying to reclaim Lazarius’ family fortune, rebuilding, and forging new allies.  We are current in the WoW Timeline with this entry, NZoth has risen, the world is in chaos, and now, the Council of Nine are at a disadvantage.  New Readers, please note each of the roleplayers as the following...
[ L.K ] - Lazarius Kashebahl,  Algus Kross, Doctor Whistletorque, Marseille
[ V.D ]  Verzatea Duskflame , Pame
[ S.K ] Siida-Ray Kashebahl
[ K.A ] Koltun Ancientveil
[ J ] Jursol (AND JIMBA!)
And as always, thank you so much for continued support, posting, reblogs, likes and friendly messages!  Please enjoy! ]
[ L.K ]  “This is where we fail most when valuable time could be spent finding my sister and possibly others who are injured with her.”. Lazarius spoke softly; and much more relaxed than either of the three in question.
“You are all right.  There are three factors at play here that I feel you all are overlooking, one...NZoth has risen.  Any use of power be they void, death, blood, spells...it will result in the eyes of the old god noticing.  It will result in our locations being encroached.  We can not forsake Pyravari to wander alone with her trusted, but we cannot allow our own to be struck here either.  Two...”
Lazarius very calmly moved toward Verzatea as he placed a soft mummified hand on her shoulder.
Tumblr media
“Kross IS CAPABLE.  He can handle himself.  And would put the least risk on thin resources we already have.  His presence remains unnoticed because he is dead.”. Lazarius glanced back toward Koltun and then turned to face Verza again.
“My sister is dangerous.  Much more when she is unhinged.  The fact that my link with her is severed is cause enough for alarm.  If anyone should be going for her it should be me.  But...”. He tapped the lovely infestation on his side that was currently covered by his tunic.
“Koltun deserves no less respect to aid the woman he loves.  You would risk your neck for me would you not?”. Lazarius gently eased his hand to Verzateas face.
“Patience.  And find reason Confessor.  You cannot overlook his attachment to the Fel either.  Koltun is one of the only, among us who also remains under the radar of Nzoths eyes.” Lazarius finally turned to peer at Koltun.
“See the doctor. Please, for me.  Let him hydrate you at least, and the two of you can leave at nightfall.”
“Come on sthweet cheeksth, I’ll have ya patched up before you can sthay ‘big sthlappy sthquirel sthacks’.”. The good doctor said hopping up and waddling toward the door.
“Oh...and third. If Raelyndia is doing this.  You better all be aware that your may need to turn your attention toward me.  If she somehow has returned from the grave and can manage some sort of magic beyond her life.  And that latches onto me...”.  He shook his head. “I would consider the contingency plan of placing me inside the void forge before I destroy us all...”
[ K.A ]  It was a rare to receive anything but stoicism or playfulness from the demon hunter, his fury reserved primarily for the battlefield and when it was needed to fuel his body through hardship. Such as the flight back to the Bastille. The possibility of losing Pyravari -again-, of failing her -again-, was enough to stoke those reserved fires, letting them flare in a minor display of what most saw before death... and so; apparently, did Verzatea's condescension.
Koltun turned slowly, felfire eyes narrowing dangerously as she spoke and dabbled notes. Thankfully, he had reigned most of himself in and beyond a light growl of warning, he left it at that. She hated inaction as much as he did, he could smell it on her as keenly as her perfume. He could hardly fault her for it, but he would remember what she had said to him this day, even while letting it go for now. And then came Whistletorque...
"oh no... Lazzy-poo you dont mean that do you?" The Blademaster groaned, watching the gnome waddle towards the door. Having no other choice but to obey, he heaved a sigh and started after the doctor, muttering under his breath "big sthlappy sthquirel sthacks....mnhrhm.”
“If N'zoth got a hold of your mind, Snookums, -he'd- go insane instead." Looking back to Laz, he nodded his thanks... albeit grudgingly, and motioned that he wanted to talk before he departed, and hopefully before being dissected by a far too eager gnome.
Tea earned herself a rather childish stuck out tongue.
'Mneh'.
[ V.D ]   The uncertainty Verzatea reserved within remained bottled up, but still she couldn't help but doubt the success rate of this half assed plan... And she had to wonder why the uncertainty and unpredictability of what awaited them never concerned anyone but herself. That was an internal issue she'd have to handle in time, whether it her fault for not having more faith, being too over protective or whatever the issue was.
Either way, Lazarius's shushing the Confessor was not amusing but as her thought softened, her narrow eyed glance his way was followed up with the woman making a face toward Koltun. Tit for tat. Though her demeanor, along with Pames, would relax after. No ill will, merely concern.
"Very well Lazarius," she concedes at last, promptly marking a line through her last written note before she'd wiggle the quill toward Laz.
Tumblr media
"Then my biggest concern henceforth, with the issue of the Harbinger resolved, is your well being, and The well being of those in your immediate vicinity."
[ J ] Jursol stood silent as she listened to what was being said. Her eyes watched everyone closely as she thought to herself. She was unsure what exactly to say at this time. Thinking of where the missing woman could be did worry her. It was clear she was well loved, and someone they needed to find alive.
Wondering to herself if the Loa could, or even would help with this. While she was amused at how the siblings would bicker, there was a clear threat to worry about. One that could destroy everything they all held dear. She held herself upright as she kept a calm expression on her face. It was clear she was ready to do anything she could to help. These were her family now. Already she cared for each one of them. Even Pame.
[ L.K ] “Then since this mission will require us to be at our most stealthy and subtle; Pame and I will take point.  Wherever we plan to go.  Jursol and her raptor entourage may watch our flank, and Confessor; I suggest you stay close to our Inquisitor since your warding could prove most helpful if we are ambushed.”.
Marseille held both hands on his belt; one against the edge of his hatchet while the other rested on his spoon.  The large serving spoon he’d kept since the night of the infamous Dawnseeker Massacre.
“There was a small grotto hidden away beneath the southern edge of the Ghostlands in Quelthalas; there was a laboratory Raelyndia kept there.  That was my lead and where I was heading first.”.
Lazarius said as he peered between the four others.
“*We can get passage to Quelthalas from the Horde capital; and go by cart to the southern border before needing to walk.”
[ V.D ]   Gently Tea closes her book, promptly expressing as though speaking to everyone -- especially given she pointedly looks at each individual,
"I trust any of you with my life, and Id protect you all with mine," her eyes move toward Lazarius before her small smiling lips would part to express,
"If you intend for us to leave as soon as possible Id like to request atleast an hour to prepare? What awaits us is unknown, the old Mistress was quite crafty-," she pokes her finger into Lazarius side where the eye can be found,
"So... In the event that something goes wrong, I'd like to ensure all will be well here."
Her eyes move to the door where last her daughter had been whisked out of. Quite suddenly the floor would become a more interesting place to look rather than admit her selfish fear of dying without at least saying goodbye to her own child. Such strange insecurities the Confessor held.
[ L.K ]  “One hour it is.  Verza, please take me to Brin.”. In an odd turn of events for most there but probably more shocking Verza, Laz wanted to see his daughter as well.  He seemed to have the same sentiment about wanting to see her one more time.
Before he would leave though; one last glance was made toward the Shal’dorei Shade who oversaw the subterfuge of Lazarius’ operation. He knew exactly what that look meant and would certainly address it before they left.
Marseille stood with the troll and Kaldorei and thumbed the edges of the bandolier with his throwing knives. “Ancient Queldorei witch ruins...I would bet booby traps.  And plenty.”
[ V.D ]   "Foolish to think it's quite so simple as walking in, and walking out,"
Pame agrees, her attention finally moving from the intimidating demon hunter. The flare of the Kaldoreis nostrils were the only sign of expression on the womans otherwise stoic facade, purple skin glowing in the dim lighting of the library. Itd cast a ghostly expression, deepening the bags beneath her eyes and exagerrating the dip of her cheeks from skin stretching taut over her bones.
Though she was anything but ill or malnourished, simply... Tired. Likely from all the fucking sparring,  but for a woman who loved sword play it wasnt much she could complain about.
"Alas, between the three of us... A timeless scholar, a wilderness amazonian and an ex-abomination huntress, not to mention the Confessor-,"Pames silver eyes fixate solely on Mars after acknowledging Jursol - who surely would've been brought into the conversation - as if to coax an answer from him,
"One still has to wonder... Is it enough of a chance against the likes of this Raylen?"
Such was a conversation Verzatea wouldn't indulge. "Of course," Tea acknowledges Lazarius. Her focus was on the Inquisitor, one hand wrapping about the elbow of the Inquisitor before she'd begin to guide him from the library. All the while she was a troubled smile.
[ J ]   Jursol nodded as she and Jimba gave agreeing nods or sounds. Pressing her lips together, Jursol whistled softy in a pattern. The sound seemed to be a call to Mawa. A faint distance souls echoed though the place.
“It be our pleasure to help all dat we can. We can’t be leaving one our own behind. It be time for action. Den we can plan our next moves once all are accounted for, alive.”
Deep down she knew many died, and many more will die. However now was not the time to think they way. It was time to hunt and return the missing one.
[ V.D ]   A twitch of the ear would be the greatest indication of a reaction from Pame with the spoops besides the kaldoreis eyes fixated solely on Jursol. She'd lean closer after a moment, murmuring in an affirming tone,
"The foolish who challenge us in this journey will tremble in the afterlife once we've finished with them."
[ J ]   Jursol grinned at the idea of forcing enemies to submit, to make them suffer even in death would please her, and her Loa. She whispered back softly still with a damaged grin.
Tumblr media
“Dey will know da power of Bwonsamdi. In death will they tremble before him. We shall see ta that.”
Nodding in agreement to Pame.
[ L.K ]  “I will be content with just knowing how the Master will get out of this.  I do not foresee his fallen Mistress having any way of deterring us that would be conventional in its genetics. This is all dangerous water to tread.  Those who follow NZoth that get in our way though...”. Marseille gave a wicked smirk as he flipped one of his knives out on one of his fingers.
“Let them come...”
[ V.D ] "I imagine a I'll use this hour to pack, however," Pame nods at once,
"After all... I hardly imagine loose, casual attire such as this will offer me the advantage of resilience to most attacks- If any are to come. Better safe than sorry," she snorts, swiftly bowing her head toward both troll and shaldorei,
"Might you both find good use of this hour yourselves."
[ L.K ] Marseille peered toward the elven woman as his silvery eyes narrowed. He would take several strides toward the exit now as he made very little effort to converse any further.
“I think I will see to a few loose ends before we depart. . . “

Tumblr media
Jaemin was bouncing with joy the second he set foot outside of the airplane. Touring around the world was definitely a wonderful experience but nothing would ever top the feeling of being with you. He couldn’t contain himself. Pestering the members, gushing about how excited he was to see you as if they weren’t already aware of it. The entire ride back all Jaemin thought of was how to surprise you. He didn’t exactly tell you he was coming home two days earlier than the date you expected him to.
It has been a three months since the last time Jaemin saw you. Saying goodbye at the airport was unbearable for him, tears falling out of his eyes when it was finally time to depart.
The car halted to your apartment, wanting to visit you first before even going back to the dorms. Jaemin bid goodbye to the members and proceeded to enter your place. You gave him a spare key to your house when you celebrated your first anniversary with him. Pushing opening the door, he silently crept to your bedroom door. Not wanting to ruin the surprise.
As Jaemin neared your door, he heard voices. Your voice and one male voice he wasn’t particularly familiar with.
“Stop, this is wrong.” Jaemin heard you say. He inched closer to the door, palm resting on the doorknob.
Jaemin heard the guy let out a bitter laugh. “It takes you a month to realize it’s wrong?”
Jaemin’s heart started beating fast, thoughts clouding his mind. Thoughts he knew you would never even dare to do.
“I-I love Jaemin.” You mumbled, pulling away from him to retrieve your discarded shirt on the floor.
“Keep telling yourself that.” Yoosung smirked, looping his belt that was open.
“I do! Just leave.” You glared at him.
“See you tomorrow.” Yoosung teased, getting off from your bed and walking towards you. “I always will.”
“You wont. Jaemin’s coming back soon and I want you,” You paused, prodding his chest away from you. “out of my life.”
“Aww, you still think he’s all that you need. You were a good fuck.”
The moment his words left his lips, Jaemin felt his legs turn jelly. Almost falling to the ground but his grip on the doorknob prevented him from doing so. His head started swirling with the thought of you being in bed with someone else. Jaemin felt his heart fall to the pit of his stomach, how could you?
“Stop that, just leave me alone.” You muttered, turning around to head towards the door.
Yoosung’s eyes trailed down. “You know, he’ll find out eventually.” He said, loud and clear.
Your heart started beating immensely fast. “He won’t! I swear to God if you utter one word to him.” You yelled, turning around to face him.
“Oh sweetheart,” Yoosung laughed, walking towards you. “he already knows.” He grabbed the doorknob and pulled it open. Revealing a very heartbroken Jaemin, whose eyes were brimmed with tears.
“Jaemin,” You gasped, “you’re back...”
You started at him, his trembling hand looked like it was reaching for the doorknob. A tear slipped down from his cheek as he watched the scene in front of him.
“You must be Jaemin! Heard so much about you. I would love to stay and chat but it seems like you two need to do some catching up. Bye!” Yoosung smirked, patting you on the shoulder before leaving the room.
Jaemin couldn’t face you. He couldn’t look you in the eyes, scared to even face the situation.
“H-how long have you been standing there?” You asked.
It took a moment for Jaemin to answer, finding the right words. “Does that matter? I already heard everything.” He spoke, finally tilting his head to face you.
“Jaemin...” You started, reaching for his arm which he quickly pulled away. “I’m so sorry.”
“Why? Why did you do it? Don’t tell me you got lonely. You promised you would wait for me!” Jaemin exclaimed, glaring at you.
“I don’t know.” You head darted down, ashamed to even be speaking with him. “I got tired of waiting.”
Jaemin let out a sarcastic laugh. “The boys were right.” Was all he said.
“What?” You asked, gaze returning to him.
“They told me you wouldn’t be good for me. I’m so fucking dumb for not believing them.” Jaemin responded, hatred dripping from his voice.
“T-they thought of me that way?”
“Is that what you’re really focusing on now? You just ruined our relationship!” Jaemin yelled, hands going up in the air.
“I’m sorry, Jaemin. I didn’t mean to. Please don’t leave me.” You mumbled, feeling tears rush to your eyes. Falling onto your knees.
“Here I was thinking of you every single day for the past three months and you were out with some guy you just met.” Jaemin lowered his voice, closing his eyes. “I trusted you.”
“I... I don’t know what to say.” You responded, tears streaming down. “I love you, Jaemin. I promise, I will never do anything to hurt you again.”
“You think I’m going to fall for that?” Jaemin snickered, “We’re over, thought you would’ve sensed by now.” He didn’t waste no time leaving you alone in your bedroom. Rushing to leave your place as fast as he could.
The rain was pouring outside, it was like the universe was playing tricks on him. Jaemin groaned before running through the rain to seek shelter. He felt his lip tremble as tears threatened to slip past his eyes. This time he didn’t stop them, thankful that no one could see them through the rain. He felt useless. Stopping by some corner, he brought his hands up to his face. “I’m so stupid!” Jaemin screamed.
