Stop putting DNI on your tags and stop bringing shipping discourse into AO3

AO3 hid the story and asked OP to remove the tag (the fanfic is not even removed) due to the inflammatory tag. That's deserved. AO3 is not a social media for people to fight over ship and chronically online discourse. It's a library. If people keep bringing DNI and discourse into AO3 it'll make the place toxic for writers and reader.

What are you trying to accomplish with putting DNI? Do you think people actually care about DNI? No, it's just making you looking like an asshole doing this

Also AO3 was founded by a Wincest and Thorki shipper. Astolat made AO3 because FF net and other sites keep purging nsfw fanfic. AO3 is literally made for problematique shipper that op don't like.

Then OP doing this? For what? People want to enjoy reading their fanfic not seeing DNI and online discourse on AO3. I hate using the word virtue signaling as it's often used to demean progress but this is what a real virtue signaling looks like 🤦🤦‍♀️

Ugh OK, listing SOME reasons why sylki is bad bi rep and actively damaging genderfluid rep:

Loki is the first openly queer major mcu character in 10+ years of a multibillion dollar franchise. And the first. the. first. time they decide to make a character canonically queer, they give her a self-cest love interest

Yes it is self-cest. There are multiple times in the last few episodes explicitly confirming that Sylvie and Loki are the same person

If these loki variants were both male-presenting (ugh) it would STILL be bad rep.

YES. Self-cest is borderline incest. They have the genetic makeup of idential twins or clones.

It's basically as if they just made thorki canon. And before you say "THEY ARE NOT SIMILAR" remember which of those ships are genetically related. (hint: it's not thorki)

In any case, they took a character, confirmed them to be queer, then IMMEDIATELY gave them a love interest that is usually relegated to ONLY fetishboards on the internet.

In the way they presented Loki and Sylvie, seperating them as they did, they completely butchered their genderfluidity.

If your immediate reaction is "THEY AREN'T GENDERFLUID SHUT UP". First: Yes. You. You are the point.

Second:

The fact that people can still comfortably say that, given the above (and much, much more) means disney royally screwed the pooch with Loki's genderfluidity

Now I could write a whole post about how disney fucked up with loki's genderfluidity but let's get back to sylki

Believe it or not, if I had a nickel for every time a genderfluid character fell in love with an "opposite gender" version of themself I would have two nickels. Which is a worrying and damaging trend.

Because of course, genderfluidity isn't just, a person having a changing gender identity. No. They are literally two people, two people who are seperated by the mirror, deperate for the other.

They could have avoided all this if they'd simply changed who Sylvie was. If she was really the enchantress or sylvie from the comics, or literally a random fucking woman from the TVA.

you know, I don’t even ship Thorki because I find it squicky (except in rare AU cases where they weren’t raised as brothers or at least knew from the beginning that they weren’t related), and I can understand people adding “please don’t tag as Thorki” to their fanart because they’re frustrated or squicked or whatever when people label their gen Brodinsons fanart as shippy

but

I find it a whole lot creepier when I’m innocently checking out a nice Loki blog because I need more Loki blogs to follow, and right there in the blog description is something like “Th*rkis and other freaks dni” because...just...yikes?

I mean you do you and obviously no one can stop you from having specific boundaries, but basically saying that anyone with a (very popular, at that) preference in a free subset of fiction is disgusting and unworthy of looking at your posts is, uh, gross? and it says a lot more about how you treat real people than their preferences in fiction do? and again, even though I personally don’t care for Thorki as a pairing, a) I do still read it on occasion under the right circumstances and b) I would far rather hang out with your average Thorki shipper than your average anti of any kind. which also means that I--as, again, a person who does not actually ship Thorki--will not follow loudly anti-Thorki people because they make me wicked uncomfortable!

(my sample size is small, but I can’t think of any Thorki shippers with, like, “if you don’t ship Thorki dni, ur delusional lol” in their bios, or in fact anything much stronger than “you probably won’t like this blog if you hate Thorki” and that’s...a little different)

I'm sorry I feel like my explanation was a little lacking so let me clarify. Shipping characters is totally fine. but "pro-shipper" (which is definitely also used by people who are just in general pro shipping) is now also being used as a substitute for MAPS because for a while not many people knew what MAPS was, and now more people do.

I get what the other anon was saying about the anti shipping rhetoric (and I agree that it's dumb to be mad at people for shipping), but unfortunately people do just straight up announce what they are (previously by using MAPS and now by using pro-shipper). I also like thorki so it's not like I'm saying you can't like "problematic" shipping. It's just food for thought I guess? It's something you wouldn't see unless you were looking for it (like I only came across the pedo side of it because someone got called out for posting actual pictures of child p*rn on twt)

Sorry for the essay, just didn't want to be misunderstood! Not at all saying it's a large amount of people who do use pro-shipper as a mask for pedophilia, but an explanation for people who do say "pro-shipper dni"
