Synopsis: With new powers, Thor now living on Earth full time, a wedding to plan, and Natasha and Wanda expecting, a lot is changing for Elly and her large and rather unconventional family. When Elise’s parents try to reestablish connections, Elly questions what being a family actually means.

Author’s Note: @fanficwriter013 helped me build this world and helped write the first few chapters. I am forever grateful to her. I love this series and can’t quite seem to let it go.

Chapter 1: Big Plans

It’s strange how a month can feel like both a blink of an eye and an eternity all at once. We returned to Earth and everything got busy all at once. There was work to catch up on. Avengers stuff had piled up. Plus, Steve wanted me to train in case they did need me for end-of-the-world things. There were all the things related to the move back to the Tower. Plus, Tony and I went into wedding planning mode. We wanted to just get it over with quickly but we didn’t just want to head to the county courthouse either. And in the meantime, we all just missed Thor. Knowing he was going to be back for good just made us miss him even more and even with the days feeling too short to fit everything in, the countdown seemed to drag on.

It was good being busy but I was starting to feel the stress. I don’t think Steve was really loving the idea of training me, and I wanted to tell him not to worry about it. That I didn’t want that life. That didn’t seem fair though. I could lift Mjolnir. That meant something. I couldn’t just selfishly sit at home while my family risked their lives. The wedding plans weren’t exactly easy either. We wanted to do it as soon as Thor got back which meant doing everything in two months and just finding a venue alone was hard. Everything was booked and with the need for privacy on top, the ones that weren’t were not ideal. The tower was taking a little longer than expected. I think the stress was getting to me so much I was overthinking everything. Like we’d had too good of a run and now it was going to fall apart. With my new powers, I now had threads that only I could see that connected me to members of my family and told me where they were and if they were okay. I would check them constantly worried that something bad was going to happen. The threads that connected me to Natasha and Wanda seemed to be fraying at the connection to them, and even though when I touched them they seemed content, I kept thinking they were planning to leave us.

“I don’t know, Tony. I like the idea of a private island but every time I call them they’re booked up,” I complained as I sat in his lap and we looked over wedding destinations.

“You’ve been name dropping right? That normally does the trick,” Tony teased as his finger slowly caressed over my stomach.

“Yes,” I admitted. “And I hate it, but still, this is people’s weddings. Even offering to pay to relocate them isn’t working. I swear we could buy an island and we’d have more luck.”

“Alright, so we buy an island,” Tony said. “Richard Branson owns ones. I guess I can too. And we can go there for our anniversary.”

I laughed and shook my head. “Simple, low key wedding it is,” I said as I brought up a website devoted to the buying and selling of islands. There was a surprisingly large number of them and we narrowed it down to an island in the Caribbean with a fully functional hotel, one in the Maldives that seemed close to not being an island anymore but did have a small hotel comprising of bungalows and an island in Belize that had a small compound like structure that would require us hiring staff to run and flying in all the things we needed for our wedding.

“So, I’m going to send these to Nat and Wanda and let them decide,” Tony said and swiped them into little folders with Natasha and Wanda’s name on it. “Don’t you worry though, honey. Our wedding will be small, low key and just us. Then we’ll spend two weeks on the beach while the kids stay with Sam’s sister. And when we get back, the Tower will be ready to move into.”

I hummed and leaned my head back on his shoulder. “It’s going to be so nice.”

He slowly kissed his way along my shoulder to my neck as his hand continued to caress my stomach. “So I’ve been thinking…”

“You’re always doing that,” I teased playfully, turning my head and nosing at his cheek.

“Well, yes,” he said, a little nervously. “No. Sorta…”

I sat more upright and turned to look at him. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” he said. “I just… We’ve been happy, haven’t we? All of us. Since the kids were born. I really like being a dad.”

I smiled softly and caressed his jaw with my thumb. “Yeah. Really happy. I can feel it now too.”

“I want us to have more,” he said. “Kids that is. I kinda… I want to make one with you.”

I stared at him in disbelief, though I could feel through the thread how much he wanted this and how nervous he was I was going to say no. “Really? You’re sure?”

“You make really pretty babies,” he said.

I smiled and leaned my forehead against his, tears pricking my eyes. “I’d be so happy.”

“Is that a yes?” He asked. “We can make a little Stark/Cooper baby?”

I let out a breath. I wanted this so much. I’d had dreams about getting pregnant again. This time because everyone wanted it. And this time around everyone being excited from the start and having the support I didn’t get the last time. Seeing our family grow more. But I couldn’t agree until I knew I’d get it. I couldn’t go through what I did last time. “We need to talk to the others. That means Thor too. I need for them to agree to having more kids and that they’re okay with both knowing you’re the biological father or if we just have me go off birth control and whatever happens happens.”

Tony nodded and rubbed my back “Okay. It’s okay,” he said. “It’ll be different this time. We’re all here now, El. And if they just want the paternity to be random. I’d be okay with that too. I just… I really love being a dad.”

I nuzzled into his neck, one tear breaking free and running down my cheek. “I love you,” I whispered. “And I do want this. More than anything.”

“I know,” he said, holding me close. “I love you too.”

He held me like that for a little while, just gently rubbing my back, when a large crack of thunder sounded outside and it started bucketing down rain. I sat up suddenly and looked out of the window. “Is it Thor do you think?”

“Gotta be,” Tony said, patting my ass so I’d get up.

I jumped to my feet and the two of us rushed outside. The rain was coming down heavily and Bruce was outside with the kids and the puppies, looking up at the sky. I moved up beside him, still being sheltered by the awning of the house. “Is it him?”

Bruce smiled and looked down at me. He was in his blended form. The one he took most of the time these days. He’d lean into Bruce more in the bedroom or the lab, or Hulk when he was playing outside with Clint and the kids. But mostly he was both at once, working in harmony. “The atmospheric readings are consistent with the Rosenberg Bridge opening.”

To back up Bruce’s words, a huge crash sounded again and a large beam of rainbow-colored light seemed to crash into the ground. When it cleared Thor was standing in the middle of a circle of Celtic knotwork burned into the ground. The twins squealed in delight and ran out into the rain to greet him. Thor smiled and the rain stopped like he’d flicked a switch on it. He scooped them up when they reached him and held them above his head.

“Children!” He boomed.

“Daddy!” They both squealed at once, kicking their legs. He pulled them into a hug and closed his eyes, smiling contentedly as they nuzzled into him. Tony, Bruce, and I approached him and when we got close he put both onto one arm and cradled my jaw with the other.

“Mea Vida,” he hummed and kissed me deeply. I melted into him, wrapping my arms around his waist.

“Thor! We didn’t expect you back yet!” Bruce said, smiling.

Thor broke his kiss with me and Bruce leaned down and pecked Thor’s cheek before Tony moved in and did the same. “All is running well on Asgard. I have Heimdall watching over things. He will call me if needed.”

“So this is it?” I asked, looking up at him. “You’re home now?”

He smiled contentedly. “Yes. I’m home.”

“Come on,” Tony said, clapping him on the shoulder. “Let’s get you inside. We have a lot to tell you about. In fact, your timing is perfect. He looked at me with a small smile on his lips and a twinkle in his eye. It did feel like a sign. This was the day we would agree to extend our family.

“I misted you,” Pietro said as we made our way back inside with the dogs, dancing around at our feet.

“I missed you too, my darling one,” Thor said, affectionately. “What have you been doing since I saw you last?”

“Umm…” Pietro pondered.

“We pwayed and deys take us pwaces. We did see a schoowl,” Riley explained.

“And I dot my books,” Pietro added.

“Those all sound wonderful,” Thor rumbled and kissed them both on the head, before putting them down. He took a seat on the couch and both the twins and the dogs climbed up into his lap.

“FRIDAY, tell the cook to make a large lunch for everyone and that Thor’s here so whatever they think is normal, double it,” Tony said as he took a seat. “And page the others.”

“Of course,” FRIDAY replied.

“Daddy,” Pietro said as he climbed up onto Thor’s shoulders. “Wiwl Woki come?”

“On occasion, little one,” Thor answered. “Loki has a very important responsibility in Asgard now.”

“Wiwl Mags come?” Riley added.

Thor laughed and ruffled her hair. “No, honey. I’m afraid not. But I will take you back to your homeworld from time-to-time and you will see him.”

I started to get impatient and I ran my fingers through the threads that connected me to the others and tugged on the ones that belonged to Clint, Natasha, Steve, Bucky, Sam, and Wanda.

“Did you just pull me?” Clint said, coming into the room.

“I did,” I answered. “Thor’s home!”

Clint grinned and came over, kissing Thor, before flopping on the chair beside him.

“Space husband!” Steve called as he entered the room with Bucky.

“I’m not your space husband any longer. I’m home for good,” Thor said, getting up and greeting the two super-soldiers with a tight hug and a kiss.

“You are!” Wanda squeaked as she entered with Sam.

Thor turned to Sam and Wanda and a large smile broke out on his face as he pulled them into his arms. “You have been busy while I was away,” he said. Wanda looked up at him confused when Natasha finally arrived. “Very busy indeed.”

“What do you mean?” Wanda asked.

“You and Natasha, you’re both with child,” Thor said, looking at the both of them confused. “You didn’t know?”

I looked from Wanda to Nat and the sudden realization that the fraying of the threads was the starting of new ones connected me to the babies they were carrying. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t realized it sooner.

Natasha looked at Thor with her jaw dropped. “I’m sorry, but I’m what?”

Lately, the days became longer, slower. The ticker on your arm was broken, glitched. That ticker was supposed to be a countdown to when you would meet your soulmate. Usually, people met theirs around the age of 15 but never older than 18. You were now 21. You were always career-driven but that didn’t stop the lonely ache in your heart.

"New arrival" you muttered, reading the message on your watch. Rolling your eyes you jog to the main transport bay to help with the new prisoner. After a tough week you just wanted a day to relax but being a Shield agent you knew there was no such thing.

Yelling echoed through the hallway and just as you rounded the corner you saw him. A big muscled man wearing a red cape and long blonde hair look dumbfounded as he was carried in by 3 men who were barely able to hold him. It was kind of amusing to witness.

"Get your hands off me! I am the Thor, the God of Thunder!" He screamed at them, trying to fight his way out.

"Nice try, Loki" Coulson snapped back, causing him to morph back into his usual self in a grump. His true form consisted of dark black hair and fair skin, his eyes pulling you in.

"Whos this Buffon?" You chuckled to Agent Coulson. The man gasped, looking annoyed by your comment, almost insulted.

"He's from another planet. You'll be watching guard" Coulson dictated. You were slightly peeved to be on some stupid guard duty though.

"Why me?" You moaned as you followed them. Coulson stepped aside and directed you along, suggesting a private talk.

"He's strong but you're stronger, Y/N. I know your powers can keep him under control until we have sorted the situation" He almost mumbled before walking back. Rolling your eyes, you trailed along using your telekinesis powers to play with the strangers hair and annoying him. It wasn't long until Coulson caught onto your tricks and scolded you.

Once you arrived at the special prison, the stranger was thrown into the cage not so delicately. The man acted like he was some kind of royalty.

"I'm trusting you to keep him here. We know he's powerful, he is from another planet after all. Don't let him out of your sight" Coulson said sternly before walking away with the other guards. Now it was just you and the new guy.

"Let me out now" Thor threatened. You laughed in his face.

"Like hell" You scoffed, crossing your arms and leaning against the wall. Just as you did, you saw the glaring ticker on your left wrist just under your sleeve, flashing. Your heart started to pound in panic. It had been broken all this time. Why is it now going off like you found your soulmate?

"Oh love" The man chuckled from inside the clear prison. You looked up to see him exposing his wrist and showing the same flashing numbers as there was on yours, proof that you were soulmates.

"What the hell. Is this some kind of joke your playing?" You slammed your fists into the glass in front of him. He gave you a confused look, something that you didn’t expect to look so genuine.

"Mine has been broken my whole life, it doesn't work. I know you are using your hokus pokus to change it" You accused him in anger. I guess after the week you've had, this was crossing the line. Part of you wanted to believe it was true but you knew deep down it was just a joke to him.

"Are you sure of that" He stared intensely at you, his demeanour changing right before you. Your hands started to shake with all the overwhelming emotions.

"I'm not broken," A tear slid down you eye which you quickly wiped away. Slowly, he placed his full palm on the wall of his cell. You hesitantly did the same, placing your hand right on top of his. Just as your hands were aligned, your wrist clocks stopped, confirming what you wish wasn't true. You had finally found your soulmate and he was not only from a different planet but a criminal.

You pulled away, turning around and running out of the room before he could say a word. As you reached your room you were out of breath and in shock. You made your way to your connected bathroom and splashed cold water on your face, trying to come back to reality.

You saw yourself in the mirror, awful thoughts running through your mind. You didn’t want this to be true, to be real. You'd never reacted like this in any situation before and it made you worry what your superiors would think. It is tough already to be a women leader, you didn’t need an emotional wreak plastered on your profile.

Time passed for what felt like minutes but checking your phone confirmed it had been an hour. Just as you saw the time, your phone glitched and all the power turned off in your room.

Everything went silent and quiet, setting off alarm bells in your head just before the compound alarms did. Grabbing your gun from the side table, you turned around to head out before being stopped in your tracks.

"Hello dear," Loki chuckled. You froze for a second before pouncing, going right through him. It was an illusion, tricking you.

"You didn't think I would leave my soulmate behind, did you?" He said from behind you.

"I haven't lived for over 1000 years to find my soulmate and not leave without her"

"Where are you?" You demanded.

"We are connected, Y/N. Come find me, let's leave together. You can be my Queen" He smirked before vanishing.

Your heart pounded in your chest. Deep down you felt him, you knew where he was.

Would you stay or would you go?

caught in the rain .

the walk to the coffee shop took more than a few minutes , and thor could smell the rain in the before they ever arrived . casually , the mention of it never crosses thor’s lips even if it was running through his mind . who doesn’t love a good storm ?? perhaps he’s quite biased though . now with his coffee of choice in hand , they stand under the patio of the small cafe watching as the rain begins to fall . that familiar smell the thunderer inhales and breathes in deep .

maybe its too cliche for him or maybe it is too ingrained in him to consider anything else but the storm is a part of him . the wind and rain and thunder . all of it sets the ambiance to help his mood soar and present company doesn’t seem to hurt matters any . the paper cup of coffee in his hand is sipped on casually when the doctor speaks . the words force a grin to come over the thunderer as he sips followed by a shrug .

❝ you’re in luck then , strange . there’s an expected downpour in three . . . two . . . one . . . ❞ just as the last of the countdown hits the sky opens up as if commanded and lets down an amount of rain that POUNDS against the roof of their little shelter . ❝ we might be stuck here a while unless you’re not afraid of a little rain . ❞

COUNTDOWN TO AVENGERS ENDGAME: DAILY LOCKSCREENS (4/6)

3 DAYS TO GO - Thor Odinson; God of Thunder

thor is funny, flawed, brave, and strong. i fear for his life in this next film. his relationship with bruce in ragnarok strengthened my love for him, and how much he loves his brother despite all the crap loki has put him through. he took on the force of a star in order to help forge a weapon; and had, like, the worst weekend ever. i mean, his father died, found out he had an older sister hell-bent on destroying the world, was kidnapped by valkyrie, had a disk that provided electric shocks attached to his neck, had his hair cut off, was forced to fight in a battle of champions, had his eye cut out, had to watch asgard - his home - burn, watched thanos’ goons slaughter half of the remaining asgardians, including his brother and his best friend. then he was adrift in space, took on the force of a star, and failed to take thanos down at the eleventh hour. i mean, damn. bitch really went through it. looking forward to seeing his arc is resolved in endgame. (chris hemsworth is also an absolute gem, in fairness).

Final Thoughts

So this is it.

Endgame is 1000% complete. The premiere was last night, and in less than 48 hours, it will be released to the public. Well, at least for me, in about...

(Yes, I have a countdown on my phone that’s been set up since last year that goes until Thursday, April 25, 2019, at 6:00pm)

I wanted to make a post about my predictions. Something I could come back to, so I could see if I was right or wrong. I remember doing that last year with some of my favourite fan artists and laughing at their prospective situations that turned out to be true.

But you see, the truth is... I have absolutely no idea what to expect. And that's not just a cheap copout of me saying "It's a Marvel movie, therefore anything can happen". We know nothing. Literally nothing. The trailers are compilations of repetitive clips revealing nothing past the first 20 minutes of a 3-hour 2-minute movie. We don't even know the films true plot.

Is there a time jump? Do they time travel? Why are they splitting up into teams, seeing how well that proved to work last time? How is Scott saved? Tony and Nebula? And what is their plan?

I don't know. I really don't. All any of us can do is take shots in the dark. RDJ said it himself that it is near impossible to predict what's going to happen.

So that got me thinking about something I've considered pretty much since the debut of the first trailer...this movie is unpredictable...but there are some assumptions we've been making that we are assuming as a fact are going to happen.

But then there are also moments that I believe deserve to happen. Story arcs that need to be completed. Endings certain characters deserve.

So, drawn-out intros aside, here are my final thoughts on this movie.

Tony

Tony is an enigma. I've made a post in the past discussing why he might actually not die based on the chess motif and the necessity to save him as the "King", despite the fact that death is what we'd all expect. I'll be honest, when the first trailer came out, I thought to myself, "Wow. They're really trying to prep us for the heartbreak by shoving this foreshadowing down our throats.”

Obviously, this is based on the first half of the first trailer, with him adrift in space. I thought that maybe Captain Marvel would be the one to save him, or maybe Pepper in her rescue armour that was seen a couple months ago from a set photo. But how would they know where he was?

But after the second trailer debuted, I think I'm going to make the assumption that it is, in fact, Nebula, with her spare bodily robotic parts, who saves the two of them and brings them back to earth. I'm also going to assume that the scene from the trailers of Steve and the rest looking up at the night sky outside the compound (if that scene is even real) is them seeing Tony and Nebula arriving back to earth. Though I have considered the possibility of the space ship recording scene actually taking place at the end of the move...which would suck. But I'm also going to assume, based on the third trailer and clips that followed of Steve and Tony together, that they actually do reunite, in the present time.

Of course, this does not excuse him from the possibility of dying at all. And he very well could. But then, another thought crossed my mind. In Infinity War, the first time we see Tony on screen is with Pepper, discussing their wedding and possible children. See...why would they foreshadow that if they were to never make reference of it again? Sure, there's a possibility of a time jump with perhaps a wedding and maybe kid squeezed in there. After all, the whole vibe we're given from the second trailer is the question of where the world is supposed to go from the tragedy endured, and how some move on (then Steve of course says "but not us" but anyways). But that's only with the off chance that there is a time jump, and it seems kind of off in the first place. So assuming the foreshadowing wasn't for no reason, I'd like to think that there's a chance he lives long enough to retire and have a kid.

Tony and Pepper mentioning a kid isn't the only foreshadowing given for his survival, though. There was one line from Avengers that always stuck with me, and sort of got overshadowed by Tony's narcissistic but hilarious description of himself ("Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."). It comes when Steve is criticizing Tony's character and motivation. He says:

"You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play. To lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you."

To which Tony immediately responds:

"I think I would just cut the wire."

Time and time again, Tony has proven Steve wrong, the first obviously being when he flew through the wormhole in the same movie. But what if this is his play in this one too? To be presented with a one-or-the-other choice for who can be saved, but manages to do both? Alternatively, this could also play out to the opposite of our favour; maybe Tony does finally just crawl over the wire for someone. For example, I've pictured a scenario where they do indeed go back in time to retrieve the stones before Thanos does. It's a plausible situation, considering we know nothing of their plan. But when it comes time to retrieve the soul stone, it's Tony who decides to make the sacrifice. Maybe he argues over it with Steve, who would want to finish what he started with Red Skull and complete the fate he was given 70 years ago, but ultimately Tony forces him to comply to what he wants, which is to finally make the ultimate sacrifice.

(And for the record, if either of those situations plays out, I'm suing Marvel for emotional distress)

But there's one other option, and it's based on a line spoken by Tony in the trailer that really stuck out to me. It was when he was leaving his message to Pepper in the second trailer, and it's where he says:

"I know I said no more surprises, but I was really hoping to pull off one last one."

At first thought, I thought it may be like a "Surprise, honey! I'm not dead, and I've returned to earth to help defeat that giant grape!" sort of thing. And maybe it is. But I've also considered the possibility of Tony tricking someone or something. Perhaps tricking those into thinking he was dead. He did do it in Iron Man 3. But then again...who knows.

Sidenote: That's the end of my first thought and everything on Tony, and I have, like, *at least* twelve more to go. I was not expecting this to be this huge. Whoops.

Steve

It is so hard to get a read on what the hell is happening with this damn character. On one hand, Chris Evans has been talking for the longest time as if we all already know that his characters dead, with the way he speaks about his wrap-up with Marvel in general. But then there are people like the Russo's who say they have things in store that we don't know about yet. Like what?? Who do we believe? Are they just trying to cover up his obviousness? Or are we, again, making predictions that we shouldn't because this movie is actually so unpredictable??

Obviously, I don't know what's going to happen. What I will say is, I know what the fanbase expects, and that's for him to die. But again, just like in Tony's case, if that's one of the top expected outcomes, isn't it less likely going to happen?

Personally, I'm in favour of one specific theory many fans have contemplated and considered. The theory is that Steve, whether it be a result of the plot or by choice, goes back in time to the '40s, and that's where he lives out the rest of his life. He has his dance with Peggy, something foreshadowed so many times, including in the trailers, and they end up living together happily, and he endures the life he always wanted before going in the ice - that is how he phrased it at the end of Age of Ultron. So yes, he would most likely be "dead" in the present day from old age, as would Peggy (since she had already died in Civil War), but he would live out the life he always wanted.

OR - and I just thought of this now, literally as I'm writing - get this. He goes back to live in the '40s. But in present day, he's still alive, just very old. The Avengers (or whoever's left) go to see him by the end of the movie, maybe even during the after credits. And...it's Stan Lee. He is Steve Rogers. His final cameo.

(This seems highly unlikely, but the thought amused me. I also can't remember if the super soldier serum allows you to age properly in normal circumstances, but I don't wanna look it up at the risk of running into spoilers. Oh well, unresearched theory is unresearched.)

Thor

Don't get me wrong, I am still very much in the mindset of:

But if I'm being completely honest, yes, Thor, just like every other O6, the God of Thunder known by humans for his immortality, has a chance of not making it. With talks of a Thor 4 with dir. Taika Waititi, it seems unlikely, but the chance is still there. And it did get me thinking...

Loki telling him before his death, "The sun will shine on us again"...did he mean in Valhalla? I have had the thought of Thor possibly biting it, but then a scene where we see him there, reuniting with Loki, Heimdall, Frigga...even Odin. His loved ones. The ones he thought he could not go on without, finally being together again, him being happy in the afterlife.

It's a sucky thought, but a possible one.

Loki

Soooo...here we are. I'm not going over my whole freaking theory again, but I stand by what I wrote. Including the portion with the disclaimer where I established that I could be totally wrong.

But a possibility I also totally support is one where he is brought back with time travel. Why would he have a poster if he doesn't make a reappearance? What that reappearance is, I have no idea. Maybe, just like the comics, he does purposely bring the Avengers together in New York. Or maybe it's something heartfelt at the end, where time has rolled back, and it's immediately following Ragnarok. Thor is aware of the reverse, and everything that's happened, and Loki saunters into the dressing room again and makes the comment on Thor's eyepatch, but Thor is just so happy to see him, that he just hugs him, as it was foreshadowed in Ragnarok, and all is well, and they live happily ever after in Norway on Earth ruling Asgard together...

Idk. Just a thought.

A Cinematic Parallel

So this was just something I noticed when comparing the Infinity War and Endgame trailers.

So remember in the Infinity War trailer, where we see Tony just sitting with his hands folded over and we were like "huh wonder why they're covered in dirt", and then it turned out it was cause Peter just died, and it was his dust, and we all had a good laugh/cry when looking back on it.

Well...you know that moment in the Endgame trailer when Steve is covered in what looks to be sweat and dirt and he tightens his shield around his arm or something, and looks to be in extreme anguish over...something?

Well... I think that's our one glimpse at the end, just as Tony's was in the Infinity War trailer. I think someone just died in that moment.

That's literally it for that.

Death

We don't know who's going to die. We don't. And we don't know how. But that fact that the Russo's, Paul Rudd, and Chris Evans have been openly joking about character deaths is a definite indicator that whoever and however they go is not going to be mainstream. Like, I don't think it's going to be a Loki-type death, or the Tony-almost-death, where the character is just too overpowered by Thanos, or whoever else, and they die as a result. It's going to be complex. Or a decision the character makes that is self-sacrificing. Or something similar to the Steve time travel theory. But whatever it is, it is likely incredibly hard to guess.

Time Travel

The theories of time travel that have been circulating since the debut of Ant-Man and the Wasp are still just that - theories. I'll be honest, I'm still not 100% sure how the quantum realm can possibly assist them, other than getting them stuck in a time vortex. And even still, the operators of said quantum realm machine are dusted. That's all we have to go off of; that, obvious hair and suit changes throughout the trailers and set photos, and, of course, the fact that there are limited options as to how they can actually succeed at this point.

The Suits

Honestly, I just included this section to make fun of their new suits some more. They are so freaking ugly, it's hilarious. I remember when the photos of them were first leaked, everyone laughed and said it was too ugly to be real, yet HERE WE ARE.

So you can imagine how hard I laughed when I saw the second trailer for the first time, and how conflicted I was over how cool their "walk" was, but how gross the suits were.

Bonus: Something I saved literally last November. And we're about to find out in less than two days...God, I'm not ready.

Prospective Scenes

There were a couple of scenes other than those I've already listed that would be incredibly satisfying to see.

Firstly, Tony and Pepper's wedding.

I always pictured it as the after credits scene. A final symbol of rest, retirement, and relaxation for Tony. And everyone's there, too. The rest of the O6, but also Peter and May, Happy, Rhodey, Sam, Wanda, the Guardians, T'Challa, Shuri, and their friends, Bucky, Dr. Strange (both reluctantly), Wong (of course), and the rest of their friends and (remaining) family. Everyone's watching as the shot is on them. And standing behind them, telling Tony he may kiss the bride, is the minister - Stan Lee. His final cameo.

(Or at least the one I originally had in mind).

The perfect ending for the perfect character arc. And oh, how unlikely it is to happen.

I'm also curious to know, now that it's confirmed, how the story will reintroduce Valkyrie, who happens to be one of my favourite characters, and also who may have escaped with her (hopefully with one of my other favourite characters...).

But there is a scene which we know for a fact is going to happen, and may have gotten a glimpse of during the final trailer, with the shot of Rocket and Nebula sitting somberly and holding hands. It's Rocket finding out that the other Guardian's didn't survive. Since separating from the other Guardians in Infinity War, Rocket did not know of their outcome, and there was no one to relay the message. That...is going to be heartbreaking to watch. Especially after seeing Rocket's character development in GOTG 2.

Prospective Dialogue

Just like certain scenes, there are lines that would be amazing to hear from specific characters.

The first, and probably most popular and obvious, is, of course:

"Avengers Assemble"

If Cap doesn't finally deliver this line with so much passion in this goddamned movie...

But then there was also a line of my personal preference that I really wanted to be heard in the movie, especially if it was said by either Tony, or Steve, or both of them to Thanos. And it's...:

"Because if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it."

Which is why I was SO HYPED BUT ANNOYED when I heard it in the trailer because so much of that content isn't going to make it into the movie.

I guess we'll see.

The Stones

So a common...what would you call it...theme, I guess? I've noticed is the correlation between the Avengers and the infinity stones. There are, of course, the six original Avengers left, and six stones. Each Avenger happens to almost perfectly fit into the representation of each stone.

Thor is the Space Stone - Probably most obvious. The Tesseract came from his family, and he has done space travel all his life.

Steve is the Time Stone - As he is "the man out of time".

Banner is the Mind Stone - A scientific genius, yet can't control his own mind.

Barton is the Reality Stone - He conceals his reality - his family - from the rest of his life and his world.

Natasha is the Power Stone - Often viewed as the weak link, even by allies (ie. Scott in Civil War), yet probably one of the strongest and most powerful team members, both physically, and mentally.

And finally - Tony is the Soul Stone - The godfather and soul of the team.

I don't know what this means for Endgame, if it means anything at all. It was just something I noticed.

Fate

There is one last theme I've come to notice throughout the original six, and it's the fact that each of them had their fate severely altered, almost unnaturally, to end up where they are in Endgame.

Tony, of course, almost died in a cave after being kidnapped by terrorists. He only built the Mark 1 suit to escape, and nearly died in the process of that. If he did not go to Afghanistan for the weapons presentation, not only would he not be Iron Man, but he would not be with Pepper, and he would still be manufacturing weapons - or worse, Obidiah would've had him killed another way.

Steve, of course, was selected to be the test subject of the super soldier serum, but that's not what altered his fate. He was destined for that for his grit and determination alone. His fate was altered when he survived something he shouldn't have - When he came out of the ice alive. None - and I mean none - of the events within the Avengers, SHIELD, or anything could have happened if he had died as he was supposed to.

With Bruce, you'd think I would refer to his gamma experiment in general, but that's not it either. That was also destined, similar to Steve's experiment. His is mentioned more briefly in Avengers, and it's the fact that he tried to kill himself. His attempt backfired, as he says he immediately transformed into the Hulk and thus, survived. But his intent was there, and if not for the quick reflexes and will to live of the Hulk (something that was NOT demonstrated in Infinity War, mind you), he would be gone.

Clint's and Natasha's basically go hand-in-hand. In Avengers, we find out that Clint was sent to kill Natasha, as she was part of the KGB. Natasha, in return, would have to try and kill Clint, not that it would have been different from any other enemy of theirs at the time. But because Clint made the call to try and reason with her and get her to turn, they both came out alive rather than the false dichotomy of a situation that would have left at least one of them dead.

And finally, there's Thor. His is a bit trickier to pinpoint because although he's been in death-defying situations, it's unclear if he's ever come close to death like a mortal would. But it's Thor who actually describes this fate that got me thinking about this theme in the first place, as he tells Rocket in Infinity War:

"You know, I'm 1500 years old. I've killed twice as many enemies as that, and every one of them would have rather killed me, but none succeeded. I'm only alive because fate wants me alive."

Fate wants him alive. And apparently it wants the other five alive as well. Otherwise, three of them would be dust, based on probability of the snap. But all six of them remain.

Again, I have no idea what this means for Endgame. I'm just pointing out what I believe to be significant.

Wow, so those are a lot more thoughts than I thought I'd have...this took about 3 hours to write, lol. So I think I'm going to leave it at that, and find out what happens on Thursday. I am in no way ready for it to all be over. And I've never been so terrified to watch a movie. And I've never had to consider that this might be the final 48 hours of a characters life.

This is going to be big. And I can't wait. But goddamn I am so scared.

Home For the Holidays- Loki One Shot

Pairing: Loki X Stark!Reader

Prompt: Day one of Countdown to Christmas-- One visits home for the holidays and meets the other; somewhat requested by @lovely-wagner

Word Count: 1600

Christmas this year would be the first Christmas at home in the past ten years. At 18, your genius father, Tony Stark, sent you (a genius as well) away to college. You stayed in that town until Tony called you after the Battle of New York. You immediately flew out to see your father. Then, you went back to school for a doctoral degree, finding yourself once again in minimal contact with your father. When he invited you to spend Christmas at the compound with the rest of his team, you agreed; and that’s how you ended up at the airport, awaiting for one of your father’s expensive cars to arrive for you.

“Y/N!” You heard your father shout as he hopped out of a shiny Audi with a smile. You made your way over to him as he removed his sunglasses (which were not reasonable considering the clouds overhanging in the sky).

“Dad!” You smiled, hugging him.

“So how was your flight? I promise I’ll get you first class next time.” Tony stated as he placed your luggage in his car.

“No, please, economy is fine. And my flight was just like any other.” You shrugged as the two of you got in the car.

“In the compound, you’ll have your own room and your own bathroom. You’ll be beside Wanda and Peter- Peter never stays over though, so you should be fine.”

“Peter?” You asked, not recognizing the name.

“He’s the Spider-Man. I recruited him last year as a non-official Avenger. He mainly just stays in Queens, but he’ll be around.” He explained and you nodded, “There’s also Bruce, Vision the android, Nat, Clint, Steve, Steve’s buddy Bucky, Sam, Thor, Loki, and Rhodey, but you remember Rhodey, don’t you?”

“Yeah,” You smiled fondly as you thought back to when you were younger and Rhodey entertained you with his stories. The memory halted as you processed Tony’s words, “Loki? As in the guy that caused the whole New York incident?”

“Thor has him at the compound. He’s basically on probation. We’re all supervising him and making sure he doesn’t do anything. He isn’t big on social interaction, so don’t worry about him bothering you.”

“That doesn’t seem safe, dad. He almost got you all killed.” You said skeptically.

“I didn’t want to argue with the God of Thunder about his brother’s premises.”

“Whatever you say.” You let out a light laugh. Small talk continued between you and Tony as the car made its way back to the compound. Tony asked about your life and listened as you explained your path to him; working towards a doctoral degree in history was harder than you first imagined years ago, but it was bearable.

As Tony pulled up to the compound, you looked around in awe. It was much nicer than the tower (though the only time you saw that in person it was nearly all but destroyed).

“C’mon,” Tony said, parking and going to grab your bags, “The team’s inside.”

“All of them?” You asked.

“Probably not Clint- he normally stays with his family. He classifies himself as retired.” He replied, walking ahead of you to lead you into the compound’s living room, “Everybody, we’re back!”

“Stark! And young Stark!” Thor said, greeting as he approached the two of you. He pat Tony on the arm and then turned to you, “I am Thor, Son of Odin.”

“Y/N, daughter of him.” You stated, gesturing to Tony beside you as he sat your bags down.

“Y/N!” Rhodey exclaimed, pushing Thor out of the way to hug you.

“Uncle Rhodey!” You smiled while embracing your unofficial uncle.

“I missed you. How’s school going?” Rhodey asked. Tony cleared his throat.

“Y/N, meet the team. Team, meet my off-limits daughter, Y/N.” Tony introduced you to the new, and some familiar, faces standing before you. There was one face not beaming at you eagerly; Loki stood off to the side, studying you. He couldn’t deny that you were beautiful and, from what he has heard, extremely intelligent. He questioned how you could be Tony’s spawn- how could Tony create such an exquisite creature? Upon hearing your father say “off-limits”, Loki felt a spark of mischievousness rush through him. Tony was just making Loki want you even more.

“It’s so nice to see you again!” Natasha smiled kindly as she stepped forward first to hug you. You looked over her shoulder and your eyes drifted over to Loki to find that he was already staring at you. Natasha let go of you, making you feel a sense of uneasiness. You were wary of the villain, and his staring honestly concerned you (though you did find the color of his to be quite intriguing).

“Come, I’ll show you your room.” Tony said, pulling you away from the welcoming committee.

“What are you doing up at this hour?” You heard a voice question, making you freeze. It was your first night in the compound and you had awoken at 1 AM, absolutely starving. You turned to face the person who had caught you while slowly taking your cereal spoon out of your mouth. Upon seeing it was Loki who had discovered you at this late hour, you stood up straighter as a way of mentally defending yourself.

“Midnight snack. And you? Why are you lurking about at this hour?” You fired back, with a small quirk of your eyebrow.

“Lurking? No, I wouldn’t call it lurking.” Loki said, stepping all the way inside of the kitchen and closer to you.

“What would you call it then?”

“I was reading and I heard a noise. I had to investigate.” He stated.

“Reading? Are you sure? You must have been up to something.” You replied.

“What do you mean? Surely I can just be simply reading. It’s not a crime.”

“No, it isn’t, but you, as the God of Mischief, must always have some plan in your mind.”

“I have no plan now.” Loki smirked, “You seem to know a lot about me. Has your father spoken of my often? I can’t say I’ve spoken of him the same amount.”

“My father told me you were the one who almost killed him and the rest of New York. The rest I know from myths.”

“Myths? Do you study them?” He asked, seeming as an attempt to avoid the conversation of the battle.

“Yes,” You nodded, “I’m working for my doctoral degree in history. I have taken several courses on the world’s cultures and mythologies. The Greek and Roman mythologies are simple and easy, but the Norse mythologies are much more complex.”

“That’s because we are real, darling. Here is your proof.” Loki gestured to his whole body, “Loki, God of Mischief, in the flesh. You say they’re harder? Do you need help with understanding it?”

“Wha-” You started.

“I am offering my help in your studies of Norse mythology- though I would not personally call it mythology.”

“Well, I guess you could help me out. I do have an essay to write for that before Christmas.” You said with a small smile. You had only met him today and spoken to him for a few moments, yet you were warming up to him. Maybe he had changed like Thor claimed.

Over the course of the next week, Loki helped you with the ideas of your essay on Norse mythology and you slowly started to accept the fond liking you had for him. Tony realized your closeness to Loki almost the moment these study sessions began. He and Thor both watched the two of you with focused eyes; Tony’s filled with disgust and Thor’s with glee. The blond God couldn’t help himself from butting into the relationship by talking with Loki.

“Any more help for your essay?” Loki asked you one morning.

“Nope, I should be good. I’ve just got some last minute revisions to do.” You said. Much to his surprise, you wrapped him in a warm hug and smiled, saying, “Thank you, Loki.”

“It’s no problem.” He replied, once you pulled away. “I was happy to give you assistance.” You smiled at him in response. When you turned to focus back on your work, he stopped you by grabbing your hand and pulling you closer to him.

“Yes?”

“Thor told me to do something and I’d like to do it, but I’m not quite sure about it.”

“Well, if you’re uncertain, maybe you should take the chance and do it. I was uncertain when-” Loki cut you off by kissing you. You were shocked at first, then got swept up into the kiss.

“You talk too much, darling.” Loki chuckled as he pulled away.

“Hey! Hey!” Tony said, barging into the room with Thor following.

“Step away from my daughter.” Tony said.

“Brother, I told you she likes you as well.” Thor stated.

“Dad! Calm down!” You exclaimed, going to your father and placing your hand on his chest.

“He may be good now, but you’re my daughter-”

“And I always will be. I am 30 now, so you have to let me make my own decisions.” You said, calming Tony out of his overprotective father state of mind.

“I don’t like this. If you hurt her, I swear-” Tony started.

“Dad-” You interjected, but that was cut off by Thor.

“My brother will have the both of us to deal with, Stark, if he hurts your daughter.” Thor assured him, swinging his hammer casually.

“I’m watching you.” Tony glared at Loki as he left the room. Thor gave the two of you a thumbs up, then left behind his friend.

“This is such a great Christmas already.” You smiled at Loki as he took your hand in his, intertwining your fingers.

Happy New Year!!!

Author’s Note: This is exactly 2018 words. I’m so proud of my unintentional accomplishment.

Even though you can see Times Square and the ball drop from the top floor of Avengers Tower, the team that was left after the disaster the Accords caused chose to spend New Year’s out of the way at the facility upstate.

Including you.

Given the small amount of people attending Tony’s New Year’s party, it’s not the wild extravaganza he’s hosted in the past. There’s you, Thor, Loki—who is awkwardly sulking in the corner—Bruce, Rhodey, Tony, Pepper, Vision, and even T’Challa. He’d graciously accepted Tony’s invitation even though he had a country to run on the other side of the planet.

The little Spiderling boy is there too.

The TV is on, displaying the countdown to 2018. For the moment, no one is really paying it any attention. Champagne flutes are half-full and bubbling in the dusty gold light from the bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Blankets and pillows are strewn everywhere. Some of them are being worn as capes, others are being sat on like a pleasant Central Park picnic in July—not the dead of winter inside—but you’re cuddled up under Thor’s cape, snuggled next to him on the sofa.

He’s not even in his armor. He’s wearing a nice burgundy blazer and a gray V-neck with slacks. You just stole his cape because it’s soft and warm.

Not that the facility is cold or anything, but there’s something to be said for snuggling on New Year’s Eve under a blanket—or cape—curled up against a loved one.

Thor throws his free arm casually around your shoulders as he laughs at young Peter’s complaint that he is literally the only one stone-cold sober since he’s too young to drink alcohol. “Fear not, Boy of Spiders. Your days will come soon enough,” Thor says, completely draining his champagne flute in one long gulp.

Peter mumbles something about being, “The Man of Spiders,” but Thor doesn’t hear him. You just smirk.

Absentmindedly, Thor kisses your head. “So, why is this particular month-to-month transition considered the beginning of a new year?” he asks curiously. “You’re in the middle of a single season. Wouldn’t it make more sense to call spring the New Year?”

Everyone glances around at each other. No one appears to know the answer for sure. Tony, who has been tipsily hiccupping for hours, pulls out his phone to look it up while Pepper rolls her eyes. “Yes it would make more sense,” Tony mutters as he types on his phone. He blinks furiously—if you have to guess, he’s probably drunk enough that his vision is getting blurry.

“I don’t know, Thor,” you reply. “Because humans are random and arbitrary. There’s no reason for the English alphabet to be in the order it’s in. Some months have thirty days, others thirty-one, and one of ‘em has twenty-eight. Who knows and who cares? Humans don’t need reasons.”

He chuckles deep in his chest—a sensation you feel more than hear—and kisses your head again. “Alright,” he remarks.

Loki glances at the TV. “For anyone who cares, midnight is in five minutes in case anyone wants to toast to the New Year,” he comments blandly.

Everyone whirls to look at the timer on the TV. The countdown has indeed reached five minutes. New Year’s is on it’s way.

The bottle of champagne is passed around, with everyone filling up their glasses in anticipation of the event.

Thor pulls you closer to his side, wrapping you more snugly in his cape. “So, do you have one of those, er, what are they called… resolutions?” he asks.

You smile. “Do you?”

He chuckles and buries his face in your curly hair. You can feel his eyepatch against your scalp. “I have many. The first is to spend my first proper year as King of Asgard serving my people to the best of my ability. The second is to spend as much time as possible with you while ruling. The third is to be the best man I can be for my people and the individuals I love the most.” He kisses your hair again. You tilt your head back and steal a kiss of your own. “I do love you, Mel,” he murmurs into your skin.

“I love you too,” you whisper.

Peter Parker, the high school kid, fakes a retch over Thor’s shoulder. You shoot him a glare. He goes still and turns his attention to the TV where the anchors are still recapping the year, prattling on about stuff no one in the room particularly cares about. It was, all things considered, a difficult year for the heroes. None of you care about celebrity marriages and breakups or any boring gossip like that.

It’s hard to find movie stars interesting when you spend a good portion of your lives fighting for the fate of the world.

The countdown to midnight ticks ever nearer. Pepper and Tony are holding hands on the sofa, Tony’s free hand still trying to figure out the origin of New Year’s being in January on his phone. Pepper is trying to talk him out of it so he’ll pay attention to the rest of the party. Peter by this point has crawled onto the ceiling and is holding his mug of hot chocolate on his stomach so he can sip at it without spilling it on someone’s head. T’Challa seems rather disinterested in the whole party, placidly gazing at the TV screen without actually watching it. Rhodey and Bruce are chatting quietly over the tops of their glasses—you catch snippets of their conversation. They seem to be discussing the fate of Sokovia after the Ultron incident two years ago.

Thor pulls you closer to his side, stroking your hair with one hand and holding his champagne flute in his other hand.

You ruffle his short, spiky hair with your free hand. He laughs and leans down, pausing a few inches from your lips. He’s asking for a kiss but waiting for your answer.

You grin and press your lips to his.

When one minute beeps on the countdown, everyone stands up. Tony sways dangerously on his feet.

Everyone in the room waits quietly. Loki sulks in his corner in complete silence. The glass of alcohol in his hand has been untouched the entire evening.

So of course, Thor drags him over to stand on his other side. “Holidays are times to be around the people you love, brother,” he tells Loki matter-of-factly. You grin and wrap your arm around his waist.

“It’s going to be a better year,” you promise Thor, hoping beyond hope that you’re right.

“Of course,” he agrees.

The camera on the TV has turned to Times Square, packed to bursting with people who are waiting for the ball to drop.

“When the clock strikes midnight, may I share a New Year’s kiss with you?” Thor asks you, squeezing his grip around your shoulders tighter. “That is a Midgardian tradition, right?”

You grin. “It is,” you say. “And just because you asked so nicely, you definitely can.”

“Aw,” Tony groans, voice thick with alcohol. “I was hoping he’d ask me if you refused.”

Loki snorts so loudly that Bruce jumps. Rhodey smiles, looking entertained. Peter, from his spot on the ceiling, looks amused. T’Challa is still quietly indifferent to everyone else in the room.

After a few more chuckles, everyone starts counting down.

“Ten…”

Goodbye, 2017.

“Nine…”

Goodbye all the fiascos that happened this year.

“Eight…”

Goodbye to all the unpleasant memories. May they fade away for good.

“Seven…”

Goodbye Asgard’s destruction.

“Six…”

Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye 2017—the year that was the smoldering embers of the raging dumpster fire left by 2016.

“Five…”

Hello, 2018. May you be prosperous and better.

“Four…”

Hello to Thor’s rule over what is left of the Asgardian people.

“Three…”

Hello to a year of love and care for the man you’re holding and who is holding you.

“Two…”

Hello to a fresh start—to better living and happiness.

“One…”

Hello, 2018, the baby that has not yet grown into a disaster like the years before it.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

Thor leans down and you tilt up onto your tiptoes to meet him.

Your lips press against his gently. His fingers find your hair and end up tangled in the curls. You tilt your head to the side to get a better angle.

Pressed against you, his body is firm and warm. It’s comforting and familiar. Whenever Thor is around there’s a sense of safety that drifts over you. A promise of well-being and protection. You don’t particularly need his protection because you’re more than capable of handling yourself, but it’s a pleasant sensation nonetheless.

Once your kiss is over, everyone toasts to the new year and drains their flutes.

Tony perks up. “C’mon everyone! Outside!” he slurs before stumbling toward the door. Loki follows first, looking mischievous and altogether untrustworthy. Pepper and everyone else joins next with you and Thor taking up the rear. Thor wraps his red cape tighter around you to make sure you’re going to be warm enough.

Outside, standing on the shoveled path lined by a thick blanket of snow on either side, everyone waits. Tony plunks a few commands into his fancy watch and turns his face to the sky.

After a moment, something bright streaks overhead. For a moment, you think it’s a shooting star.

That thought quickly vanishes as a burst of red light washes over your face and colors the snow in blood, quickly followed by a thunderous Boom!

“Fireworks!” Peter exclaims with a huge smile.

A whole show follows. Colors of every kind explode high above the facility and rain sparks down that fade before they reach the ground. Smoke mingles with clouds and the loud Booms that accompany the lights echo in the empty fields that surround the facility on all sides.

Some of them are shaped like hearts or smiley faces. One of them falls like a weeping willow with long strands of glittering gold. The noises vibrate in your ribcage.

Thor holds you to his side, absorbing his warmth that he radiates like a furnace. He watches with wonder and smiles, occasionally glancing down at you to make sure you’re not missing the show. “It’s beautiful!” he says quietly.

“Yeah,” you agree with a grin.

“You know what else is beautiful?” he asks.

“The snow?” you suggest. There was something magical and ethereal about snow.

“Well, yes I suppose,” Thor agrees. “But I was talking about you.”

He leans down and steals a kiss. Your cheekbones and ears grow warm.

You grab the back of his head as he kisses you. “C’mere you big softie,” you mumble.

He chuckles against your lips.

“I love you,” you say.

“I love you too.”

The fireworks show lasts a good fifteen minutes, during which time everyone starts to feel the effects of winter creeping into their bones. Goosebumps run rampant over skin and shivers cause everyone not dressed properly for the cold to shudder.

Everyone’s faces are washed with rainbow colors as five or six fireworks go off at once, culminating in a one-after-another boom-boom-boom-boom-boom finale that makes your heart pound in your ears. You smile up at Thor and the expression on his face. You know he’s seen fireworks before, but there’s something endearing about never losing the sense of magical wonder they bring. You love him.

Once it’s over, the party disbands. Mostly because Pepper forces Tony to go to bed to sleep off all the alcohol he’s consumed.

You yourself are feeling a little tipsy but not too drunk all things considered, so Thor leads you gently back to your shared room to keep you from walking into anything. You reach it without incident. You both get into your pajamas and snuggle close to each other.

“Happy New Year, Thor,” you whisper as he runs the backs of his fingers down your face and through your hair.

“Happy New Year, my dearest love Mel,” he replies with a soft smile.

Maybe 2018 won’t be so bad.
