pack it up everyone dylan mulvaney jumped on the "girl dinner" type of tiktok humor w a silly song about Girlhood and now all the cis girls who were eating it UP from other cis women are demonizing her and saying she's evil for mocking womanhood and doesn't understand
I'm absolutely sick of it. that culture was Bad to begin with, but any time it was critiqued the response was "WE'RE COPING WITH WOMANHOOD of course we understand!" & you were branded a Misogynistic Self Hating Woman for not finding it funny. but the SECOND a popular trans woman jumps in on it? it's think pieces about "does she really understand womanhood at all? people need to know that she understands and this song misses that" as if they wouldn't be gobbling it the fuck up if a white, blond, cis woman made that song.

This fandom has a weird insistence that nothing can stand on its own and everything must be connected to everything else.
Like the two forgotten gods can’t be new characters, clearly they must the Tharizdun/Luxon/the Raven Queen’s predecessor, even though the entire thing is that no one knows these forgotten gods even existed, and the latter characters are all well documented.
There’s a city on Ruidus? Clearly is must be Avalir/Aeor/Cognouza despite that not making a lick of sense.
Morrigan turned out to be a hag with the pseudonym ‘The Fate Stitcher’? Clearly she must also be Isharnai, despite Isharnai being known as the Prism Sage, is connected specifically to misery rather than fate in general, is not in the Feywild and so would not have time dilation capabilities.
There’s a low level information dealer in Jrusar? Clearly that must be Essek because apparently he ain’t got better shit to do.
A wizard named Laerryn and a wizard named Ryn exist ~1,000 years apart? Clearly they must be the same person despite us seeing Laerryn die onscreen and there being a millennium and an apocalypse between them.
Y’all, new things are allowed to happen, and things are allowed to be what they are.

Something that kinda fascinates me is that where most of the GID community seems to be gay men, most of the whump community seems to be ace and/or bi women. Considering the overlap between the two communities, I just find it really interesting how you get such different demographics for each. The minute distinctions between them really make that much of a difference in the audience, it seems.

i think there is something to be said about misogyny and the popularity of 'virginal pure and innocent young woman in her early 20s who is actually a sex fiend' trope i see in many ocs/canon interps in the rpc that should be unpacked, actually.

if there is one piece of advice that i could offer writers that aspire to get traditionally published, is that when people say the industry is wholly subjective, they are 100% correct and coming to terms with this is the difference between continuing on and just breaking.
whenever i'm not getting automated rejection messages, agents who actually take the time to explain why they're passing on the manuscript (a HUGE rarity but i've been lucky this round) makes you realize real quick that it really does boil down to "actually, i just didn't vibe with it".
i keep seesawing between wanting to scrap or keep my opening chapters, and so far it's been pretty 50/50 between there's too much going on, and, there's not enough going on on most of these rejections.
the most bewildering comment i've gotten so far was that there wasn't enough worldbuilding in the opening chapters. not enough worldbuilding. in a horror novel. a contemporary horror novel. something that goes against every standard regardless of genre.
like, zoinks scoob. it's all good. i'm confused, but we're chill about it.
