5, 9, 10 from the oc asks for all of your ocs! XD
5. Do they have a "tell" for when they're lying?
9. Do they have a word or phrase that they tend to overuse?
10. What is a weird quality that they have (ie their hands are always cold, they're always hungry, they snort when they laugh, etc)?
Furo:
5. They are simultaneously the best and worst at lying. They giggle. They will start giggling when they lie. Furo is aware that they do this, so when they have to lie, and the other party has not caught on to this fact yet, they will play it off that the idea is so absurd they couldn't help but laugh.
If the person is aware of this fact, then Furo will try their hardest to suppress the giggles, which will turn into hiccups. So now, they are giggling and hiccupping as they try to fib. It does not turn out well.
"Hmm? Keekee, do you think I would do that? Well, keke, that is funny. I'd-pft...I'd never do that!"
9. Furo doesn't really have words or phrases that they use more than others. They do tend to slip into a parental tone often. When that happens, their voice becomes floatier and lighter. If the person they are talking to is someone they consider their child, that person will be referred to as "dearie", "sweetie", or "sweetheart".
This is something that they aren't specifically aware of. If you point it out to them, they will correct themselves, but otherwise it is something that just fizzles in and out.
"Oh, are you okay dearie? Here, let me see if I have something nice to give you...Would you like a pebble?"
10. What weird quality don't they have? Besides the whole...treasure thing, Furo keeps a handwritten bestiary of everything they write. They often keep it with them in their pile of textbooks and when they go on hikes with the Mountain Appreciation Club. Furo will rattle off facts about all the animals they can turn into and those they are learning to turn into under their breath.
If you catch them when they are intensely studying, you may be able to hear them reciting the notes in the animal language corresponding to the entry they are on. It will take them a moment to collect themselves after that, so there is a possibility they will respond in the animal language.
"Manatees have nostrils instead of blowholes...They communicate through squeaks when submerged..."
Ronald:
5. His nose crinkles and wiggles. There is actually a little story to it. When he was little, he went on a fishing trip with one of the neighboring old folks. He wasn't supposed to go snooping around, but he did cause he's a big brave buck! Well, long story short he got a snapping turtle to the nose and when questioned he was lying through his teeth and wiggling his bleeding nose all the way.
Now, it's sort of a muscle memory thing. Whenever he lies, his nose starts hurting and he ends up scrunching it and moving it side to side. He hates it.
"Y-yeah! I've totally casted that spell before! I could do it with my magic pen behind my back!"
9. He will say that he is an awesome buck any chance he gets. Boasting is his primary form of communication. Even when he is complimenting someone else, somehow, he will fit a compliment for himself in there. The exact wording will change, but the meaning stays the same.
Ron knows what he is doing. No, he will not stop. Gotta have that self love and confidence!
“There isn’t much that I can’t do! I’m a growing buck ready to take on the world!”

Florian:
5. He does not have a tell. You will not be able to tell when this sweet boy is pulling your leg or not. He thinks he has a tell, but even when he tries to explain it, others tend to shake their head. Flo’s poker face is on another level. He looks angelic and slightly dazed no matter what happens. Even when he is scared, he just has this pleasant, wide-eyed smile.
“Oh yeah, I love tea!”
9. “Well I heard...” often starts off his sentences. What follows is sure to raise eyebrows. It can either be something useful, a piece of gossip, or just some random nonsense that has nothing to do with the conversation!
“Well, I heard that honeycombs are a wonderful treat! Even the wax!”
10. Florian is always sleepy. He is known to fall asleep in classes often. It’s not because he has a poor sleep schedule, he just...dozes off! Some teachers get mad, and others have learned to let him be. Florian isn’t failing any classes yet, so they just let him do what he does. If his grades start to fall, then they’ll do something about it.
That being said, he can stay awake. He can push through sometimes, but yawns are common and heavy eyelids are a must. Coupled with him being hard to wake up, this leads to him just being carried around sometimes.
“zzzz...”
Phoebus:
5. Another one with no tell when he lies. Granted, he isn’t one to lie often. The only thing he’ll lie about is if he sees a really bad possible outcome with his unique magic. And he technically doesn’t lie, he just deflects and refuses to answer. Lie by omission! If he does truly lie, he’s just gets jittery, and he does that for practically everything.
If he ever did lie to someone, it wouldn’t be long before he tattled on himself. He just can’t deal with lying to people.
“I’d rather not say anything...Oh, did you see that Magishift game last night?”
9. “It’s possible.” That is his response to almost everything. If you ask him a question, you will get this as an answer first. If prompted, he will give a more acceptable answer. He also starts his suggestions like this. Everything is a possibility for him, so he makes sure to remind others of that. Not everything is set in stone.
If people get annoyed, which they often do with his future tendencies, he’ll more mumble this part as he tries to get what he wants to say out.
“It’s possible that you won’t have to deal with detention if you can assure Professor Trein is out of his classroom at exactly 1:32 pm.”

Mortimer:
5. His eye will twitch. It is very subtle, and it also happens when he is angry. It’s a toss-up as to which reason it might be for whoever he’s interacting with. He is aware of this tell and is very strategic as to how to cover it up. Can’t have people knowing he is pulling the rug out from under them. If someone points it out, he has a plethora of excuses to use to quell their suspicions.
Mortimer picked up the trait from having to interact with his little sister. The annoyance and constant need to shelter her with falsehoods mingled together and manifested in his eye twitch. It used to just be a tick for when he was angry.
“That is an extravagant idea! I could never have thought of something that like!”
9. He doesn’t repeat many phrases. He finds it annoying, both if he does it or if someone else does. He spent a lot of time expanding his vocabulary, so he might as well use it. If people just keep saying the same thing, it is more likely that their audience tunes them out, and he doesn’t want that.
Mortimer doesn’t want to be predictable. The first thing to that is to always keep what he says fresh. Keep the other person wondering what he will say next, be it nice or not.”
“Now just is it that you want from me? You’re spouting the same nonsense, just with different words.”
10. Mortimer absolutely despises that he can do this. He will repress the urge with all his might. He overanalyzes toys. From baby rings, cat toys, to dolls and figurines. Mortimer will pick them apart and judge the craftsmanship and integrity of it. It is a reflex habit from being raised as a toymaker’s son.
That is why he avoids as much as possible. He can’t help going to get Francine new toys and accessories, so that is when he does it the most. Don’t ask to go with him.
“Ugh, such cheap craftsmanship. Mass production really takes out the integrity for such things.”
Tido:
5. He squeezes his right thigh. When Tido lies, he gets phantom pains in his leg, and he tries to message it out. He is really bad at lying to others. But the funny part is, people just let it be because they don’t want to keep this stuttering fae struggling to come up with something. Tido will look to be in serious pain.
He can’t keep secrets because of this. For both parties involved, do not entrust Tido with secrets. It will not turn out how either want it to.
“Ah, me-my l-leg ish hurting, bad, bad l-like.”
9. “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember” are phrases that Tido often uses while “boss” is his favorite word to use. He has a rough time remembering anything, taking small chunks at a time. Tido doesn’t do to well on tests or when remembering lines. So, it isn’t uncommon to hear him say that he doesn’t recall things.
Tido doesn’t know why he likes the word boss so much, he thinks/hopes it has something to do with his past. He only calls people he likes boss voluntarily.
“I-I don’t remem-mem-member, B-bossh!”
10. Tido will never sit with his back exposed. He will sit so that he faces the exits, with his back as close to a wall as possible. He’ll just do this subconsciously and if asked... “I don’t know”. He’ll get really fidgety if he can’t find a seat like that. He just likes being able to see everything and scan the room easily.
It usually doesn’t cause any pressure, but if someone tries to walk behind him when he isn’t in a seat, he gets really scary and out of character. He’ll grab onto whoever walks behind him and for a moment he gets this glare in his eyes. But, a split second later he’s back to his usual self, apologizing.
“Ah! Sh-showy! D-don’t know, know what c-came over-ver me dere!”

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

Been thinking about how Donnie and Leo’s insecurities juxtapose each other.
Donnie is insecure about his place in the family, but confident in who he is outside of it.
Leo is secure about being a part of the family, but thinks he’s nothing outside of it.
I think it’s a very interesting comparison that reflects their respective personalities, Donnie’s “Will all I have to offer be enough?” versus Leo’s “Do I even have anything else to offer?”

Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.
When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”
Diavolo responds:
Tumblr media
“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.
Along with how Diavolo describe his father.
Tumblr media
It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.
Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.
His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.
Tumblr media
The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.

waiting for everyone to get on board with "fiction that depicts dark subject matter is not inherently romanticizing it" so we can move on to "fiction that romanticizes dark subject matter should not inherently be condemned and sometimes the dark subject matter may in fact be Intentionally Romanticized to Make A Point"

If you were going to make a character that was the soul of planet earth in a human body you might think to make her motherly. Wise. Forgiving. Mother Earth cares for us, she provides, right? But Tamsyn Muir wrote Nona the Ninth and said YES planet earth is loving but also she is SO SO ANGRY and HURTING. And actually she cannot care for others right now she needs to be cared FOR.
Also she wants to eat pencils and she thinks flowers are sexy.

Miguel is Fine, Actually (Being Spider-Man's Just Toxic As Hell)
Before I watched ATSV I said that I would defend my man Miguel O'Hara's actions no matter what, because he's always valid and I support women's wrongs. I was joking, and I did not actually expect to start defending him on Tumblr.edu. But I'm seeing a lot of commentary that's super reductive, so I do want to bring up another perspective on his character.
Miguel wasn't acting against the spirit of Spider-Man, or what being Spider-Man means. Miguel isn't meant to represent the antithesis of Spider-Man. Miles is the antithesis of Spider-Man. Miguel represents Spider-Man taken to its extreme.
Think about Miguel's actions from his perspective. If you were a hero who genuinely, legitimately, 100%, no doubt about it, believed that somebody is going to make a selfish decision that will destroy an entire universe and put the entire multiverse at severe risk - if you had an over-burdened sense of responsibility and believed in doing the right thing no matter what - you would also chase down the kid and put him in baby jail to try and prevent it. He believed that he was saving the multiverse, and that Miles was putting it in danger for selfish reasons. Which is completely unforgivable to him, because selfishness is what he hates the most. And then he goes completely out of pocket and starts beefing with a 15yo lmfaooo he's such a dick.
But why did Miguel believe that? Why did he believe that Miles choosing himself and his own happiness over the well-being of others was the worst possible thing? Why did he believe that tragedy was inevitable in their lives, and that without tragedy Spider-Man can't exist?
Because he's Spider-Man.
Peter Parker was once a fifteen year old who chose his own happiness over protecting others. It was the greatest regret of his life and he never forgave himself. Peter's ethos means that he will put himself last every time, and that he will sacrifice anything and everything in his life - his relationships, his health, his future - to protecting and helping others. Peter dropped out of college because it interfered with Spider-Man. He destroyed his own future for Spider-Man. He ruins friendships and romantic relationships because Spider-Man was more important. If Peter ever tries to protect himself and his own happiness, then he's a bad person.
That is intrinsic to Peter. Peter would not be Peter without it. A story that is not defined by Peter's unhappiness is not a Spider-Man story. If Peter doesn't make himself miserable, then he's just not Peter.
That is a Spider-Man story: that not only is tragedy inevitable, that if you don't allow yourself to be defined by your tragedy then you're a bad person. If you don't suffer, then you're a bad person. If you ever put anything above Spider-Man, then you're killing Uncle Ben all over again. Miguel isn't the only one that believes this - as we saw, every Spider-Man buys into what he's saying. There's no Spider-Man without these beliefs.
Miguel attempted to find his own happiness, and he was punished in the most extreme way. He got Uncle Ben'd x10000. He tried to be happy, and it literally destroyed his entire universe. It's the Spider-narrative taken to the extreme. Of course Miguel believes all of this. Of course he believes this so firmly. He's Spider-Man. That's his story. And the one time Miguel tried to fight against that story, he was punished. And like any Spider-Man, he'll slavishly obey that narrative no matter the evil it creates and perpetuates. Because if he doesn't, the narrative will punish him. The narrative will always punish him. It's a Spider-Man story.
I don't think the universal constant between Spider-Mans, the thing that makes them Spider-Man, is tragedy. I think it's the fact that they never forgive themselves. And Miguel is what that viewpoint creates. He doesn't believe this things because he's an awful, mean person. He believes them because he's a hero. He's a good person who hates himself.
Across the Spider-verse isn't really a Spider-Man story. It's a story about Spider-Man stories. Miguel's right: if this was a Spider-Man story, then Miles acting selfishly really would destroy the universe. But Miles' story isn't interested in punishing him. It pushes back against Peter's narrative that unhappiness is inevitable and that you have to suffer to be a good person. It says that sometimes we do the right thing from love and not fear, and that Peter's way of thinking is ultimately super toxic and unhappy. ITSV was about Miles deciding that he didn't need to be Peter Parker, that all he needed to be was Miles, and ATSV is about how being Peter Parker isn't such a good thing. Miguel shows that. Whatever toxic and unhealthy beliefs he holds - they're the exact same beliefs that any Spider-Man holds. He's a dick, but I don't think he's any more awful a person than Peter is.
TL;DR: Miguel isn't a bad person, he just has Spider-Man brainrot.

listen i know we all love steve “completely ignorant of queer culture to the point that bisexuality is a surprise” harrington being roasted and educated in turns by robin and eddie, yadda yadda, good stuff. i read “they made a horror version of rocky?” in a fic recently and cackled. also a big fan of “he knew he was bi from the start and just never talked about it” as a trope, love it excellent well done
but what about steve who realizes after starcourt that the most important person in his life now has this thing that’s a major part of her life that he knows nothing about, and what if he fucks it up? what if he says something ignorant or rude by accident, and hurts her? what if he loses her because he didn’t know the right thing to say? what if he can’t keep her safe because he doesn’t know what to look out for? absolutely fucking not, this steve says
and listen she’d never say anything, because she can tell that he can tell how much she likes teasing him and teaching him things, so he plays dumb, and she thinks it’s very sweet. but she notices when the zines she keeps under her bed that she buys at that one secret bookshop in indy when she can sneak away on family trips start going missing, always one at a time, and replaced in a few days with another disappearing. and she finds the new ones he must have gone to buy the weekend she was at her aunt’s house hidden in the back of his closet when she goes to steal one of his sweaters. and she notices when he slips more of her queerer movie recommendations into his personal take home pile rather than the movie night stack when he thinks she’s not looking.
she doesn’t notice when he drives to indianapolis after she tries to explain to him why she can’t just ask out a cute girl, tries to impress on him the fear attached to every moment of attraction that he simply has never had to feel, but later she finds a crumpled receipt from a diner in one of his jacket pockets when she’s looking for his keys, and the address is across the street from the bar the gorgeous woman at the bookstore told her about, the one she memorized the address of but hasn’t worked up the guts to think about visiting, and she knows he must have gone looking for a place like that, must have been trying to understand, must have been scoping it out to make sure it was somewhere she could feel safe, after she told him she never had.
so when eddie nearly pops a blood vessel when they clock each other and she mentions that steve is the only person she’s ever come out to before, her hackles come up. because she gets it, she does, he’s only known king steve until recently, so it makes sense that he would be afraid, be concerned for her safety.
but steve is her person, and no one- no one- has ever made her feel as protected or as cared for as he does. no one has ever tried as hard to understand her, no one has ever put so much work into making her feel safe and seen and loved. and she thinks maybe even if no one else ever does, that’s ok. because she has steve, and more importantly steve has her, and that means no one gets to question his ally credentials in her presence without a dressing down to remember, no matter how well they mean or how recently they helped save the world.
(and maybe she’s not as surprised as she could be when he figures out bisexuality all on his own, because she’s been reading all the same pamphlets he has, after all. and she’s seen the way he looks at eddie, i mean come on. maybe no one else has noticed, but then, nobody knows steve harrington like she does.)
