The Mindscape, a peaceful harmony of Thomas’ Logic, Morality and Creativity, which had recently been invaded on a regular basis by Anxiety. Roman, Thomas’ Creativity, was constantly angered by this situation, and whenever he saw Anxiety around the Mindscape, he would either give the emo Side a death glare or yell at him to leave, usually followed by some hurtful nickname. The yelling was usually more effective, resulting in Anxiety flinching and immediately leaving to go back to his room in the Dark part of the Mindscape.
Patton, Thomas’ Morality, was less inclined to antagonise the Dark Side, often leaving out spare cookies and other baked goods before going to bed as Anxiety was never seen taking any food during the day time. Patton couldn't help feeling sorry for him and made a habit of scolding Roman for yelling at the smaller Side. Roman refused to listen, calling Anxiety ”a rotten villain who was only here to drag us down!” in a voice loud enough to carry through the entire Mindscape.
Logic, Logan, was rather dismissive of any conversation regarding Anxiety. He wouldn't say a word if he ever saw Anxiety sneak in and out of the kitchen to grab some food or a drink when there was nobody else there, nor did he entertain Roman’s insistence that Anxiety was evil. Logan seemed to be completely neutral on the subject, which would make sense if he didn't have feelings, something he claimed that was disproven time and time again.
Patton was the first to notice that something was going on. More and more snacks from the too cupboard were disappearing overnight, and he alone had the ability to regenerate the contents of their kitchen to hide his midnight snacking, and Logan seemed to be more tired than normal. At first, Patton brushed it off, presuming that Logan was pulling more all-nighters to work through Thomas’ more logical problems, and was snacking to keep his energy up. However, even stranger occurrences happened later that day.
Patton and Logan were sat in the living room, Logan reading and Patton watching a Disney movie on the tv. It was peaceful, and mostly quiet until Roman came down from his room and beelined it to the kitchen, and let out a loud shout.
”You again!?” The sound of a glass smashing was heard, causing both Patton and Logan to turn their heads towards the kitchen, where Anxiety was slowly backing out of the doorway and into the living room, hood up and visibly shaking. ”How many times do I have to tell you, your dark and dreary presence isn't welcome here!? Get out!” Anxiety immediately ran, taking the stairs three at a time as he scrambled to get away from Roman, and before Patton could respond, Logan forcibly slammed his book shut, glaring daggers into Roman.
”Do you have to act so thoughtlessly horrific towards him!?” Logan hardly ever yelled, only when he felt wronged in some way, so this was a shock to both Roman and Patton.
”I- what?” Roman stammered, trying to process this. ”Why do you care, Pocket Protector? He’s the villain here!”
”Not everything is as black and white as you think it is, Roman!” And with that, Logan stood up and left to his room, rather angrily slamming the door behind him, leaving Roman and Patton in stunned silence.
Logan never came down to dinner that evening, he didn't even answer when Patton knocked to see if he was okay, so Patton left Logan’s portion in the microwave and placed a bright pink post-it note to the microwave door, which read ’your dinner’s in here, I'm sorry Roman was so rude earlier. -Pat’. The rest of the night passed rather quietly, with Roman going to bed extremely early and trying and failing to get a response from Logan, much like Patton had. Patton also went to bed shortly after, feeling the tension weighing down his heart. Hopefully, tomorrow morning, everything would be back to normal.
However, Patton was woken up before the day had even changed by a rather loud banging sound coming from the kitchen. As his room was closest to the kitchen, he was probably the only one who heard the noise, so he got up and put his glasses on to investigate.
Just as Patton opened his bedroom door, he saw the blur of a person walk past, and he stepped out to see Logan almost hurrying into his room, carrying several bottles of water and a bag files with various snack foods. Curious, Patton followed, noting that Logan forgot to lock his door behind him. Patton slowly pushed open the door, Logan’s name on his tongue, when he saw that the room was completely empty. No Logan, no food, only his furniture. As Patton looked around, he noticed another door in the room, one that was most definitely not Logan’s wardrobe, and the door was cracked open slightly. So, naturally, Patton walked over and peeked through the gap in the door.
What Patton saw was the most surprising thing he had ever seen. There Logan was, smiling as he and Anxiety were sat on the floor together, watching something on a tv. Anxiety had his head resting on Logan’s shoulder, and from what Patton could make out, they were in Anxiety’s room and were slowly making their way through the snacks Lovan had just grabbed from the kitchen. It all made sense now, why food was disappearing and why Logan had been so protective over Anxiety earlier. With a small smile, Patton left and went back to his own room. They looked so sweet together, that this was solid proof that Anxiety wasn’t truly an evil Side, and now Patton was determined to make Roman see the truth.
The next day, Logan came down for breakfast but didn't say a word about Roman not yet being there as he sat down at the table. Patton tried to look past this, simply serving Logan his breakfast and speaking as if nothing had happened last night.
”Sleep well, Lo?” Patton asked, sitting down opposite the logical Side, the smile ever-present on his face.
”It was sufficient- why are you smiling at me like that?” Logan had looked up from his plate and seen just how happy Patton seemed this morning. It was more than usual, and it was strange. Patton merely giggled slightly and leaned in.
”I saw you with Anxiety last night, ” Logan’s face immediately became bright red as he choked on his spit, and Patton continued. ”So, I was thinking that we could work together to make Roman see that Anxiety isn’t so bad! Sherlock and Watson once again, only this time not solving a mystery but a broken friendship!”
”That is a poorly-worded plan, Patton, ” Logan began as he recomposed himself. ”However, I am in favour of the goal here.”
”Great! Time to start Operation: Make Roman Like Anxiety!”
Turns out, the plan was executed sooner than expected, as that same day Anxiety ducked out and Logan and Patton worked to convince him to stay and also get Roman to realise how important Anx-Virgil truly was.
