5+1 Headcanons!

Thank you so much @gingerbreadmonsters for the tag, I had to reach into the depths of my brain for these. (Translation: I got so excited that every headcanon I've ever had left my brain /lh)

Rules: Share 5 Redactedverse headcanons you hold, plus 1 headcanon you're still working on!

1: Timeline be damned, Sunshine and Elliott were childhood friends (/lh). This is just something I've thought about a lot for Dan-Bi (my version of Sunshine) and Elliott, and it makes a lot of sense. It gives more depth to their pining while also letting them have more general knowledge of each other seeing as they grew up together. And, more importantly, it further emphasizes the parallels between them and Blake/Bestie.

2: D(a)emons are naturally polyglots. It's what allowed them to adapt to life on Elegy, and it's a fun tool for adding depth to dynamics/interactions between characters. That said, it doesn't automatically mean they're well-versed in slang and such. Only that they have the ability to communicate via whatever language they encounter. Each d(a)emon has their personal preference for what language they use most often.

3: Darlin' has always been a physical touch kind of person when around the pack. But it's specific types of touch: Playfully punching someone's arm, leaning on someone's shoulder (my Darlin' is fairly tall /lh), general pack roughhousing that's normalized for shifters. It's later on when Darlin' opens themself up to more vulnerable forms of physical affection, ones that they need to initiate in order to feel comfortable. It's why it means so much when they're willing to hug someone else from the pack. It's as if through the embrace, they're saying "You make me feel safe. But I don't know how else to say that."

4: My design for Guy is Asian and Latino, but this works for any Guy who speaks a 2nd language: He is absolutely tormenting Honey by saying the most heinous shit in public in a language other than English. He finds it hilarious, especially when Honey isn't able to properly react to it in the moment.

5: Freelancer is the "I got it" friend. You need a nail file? They've got one. Forgot to eat? Don't worry, they've got some snacks tucked away in their bag. Oh your hair got messed up? Give them five minutes max, they're gonna go grab their haircare bag (That last bit leans towards my specific design for them but still).

And my plus one: This is broader but I love thinking about the speakers/listeners as it pertains to A) cooking and B) dancing. Like my Milo is Dominican, of course he's taught Nirav (SH) how to dance bachata. What's that? Malakhi (Baaaabe) is Jamaican? Hell yeah, he gets to help cook for the pack (especially knowing Asher's track record). I could write an essay on how Ayl (Lovely) using cooking as a means of getting to know people pre and post turning is so fascinating from a vampiric standpoint. I don't know why, but it's just something I enjoy thinking about a lot.

How to use tone tags! :D

Because @flaming-green asked and also neurodivergence !!

Long post woah

Commonly used tone tags:

/j = joke

/hj = half joke

/ly or /lyr = lyrics

/pos = positive

/neg = negative

/lh = light hearted

/nm = not mad

/s or /sarc = sarcastic

/nbh = no body here (this is used alongside a rant/vent that has not named a specific person- people may think you are talking about them and spiral)

/genq = genuine question

/nf = not forced

/plat = platonic

/r = romantic

/srs = serious

/t = teasing

Why use tone tags?:

Tone can be a very difficult thing to pick up, especially through text. Use of punctuation and capital letters and certain word choices can make a sentence seem completely different. For example, if I received a text saying "Come see me right now." I would instantly think I was in trouble and would panic. However, if I received that same message with a "/nm" I would feel much better about the situation. People use punctuation in different ways as well! I personally use exclamation marks to show how excited I am !! While for others, a multitude of exclamation marks could indicate sarcasm. Same with the use of emojis. I personally use some emojis to indicate sarcasm, but I know people who use those same emojis to indicate... Well, what the emoji is showing. So, to use a tone tag avoids any sort of miscommunication.

When to use tone tags?:

Deciding when to use tone tags can be difficult. I personally use tone tags when I reread a message and realise it is ambiguous in tone, or when I reread it, it sounds more aggressive or rude than I intended it to be.

If somebody asks you what you mean by a message, this is probably a sign that you need a tone tag of sorts. Not all people are going to interpret things the way you intend them to be, so tone tags as a whole are helpful to avoid miscommunication. Sometimes the context of the message being sent can change someone's perception so tone tags are not always needed e.g. "omg I love you so much! You're so awesome!" This may be seen as genuine, while "omg you're so awesome." Can be seen as sarcastic. It depends on how that person's brain works.

If you are talking directly with one person, or a small group of people, and you know their typing habits (such as using emojis for sarcasm or use of punctuation) then tone tags may be needed less! But if you are talking to a group of people, such as on Tumblr, it may be easier to use tone tags as more people will see what you've said and... Well people may not understand what you meant!

Some words may have different connotations through different contexts, such as the word "silly". But sometimes people may not understand that context. I typically use Silly in a positive way, but at one point I referred to a character I didn't like as a "silly man" with my friend who had no clue who this character was. To them, this meant I liked this character, which left them confused when I started talking about them in a bad way. So, I started adding "/neg" anytime I meant silly in a negative way to avoid confusion.

Other tone tag things:

Try and avoid piling of tone tags at the end of a message/post as this can be confusing. Id say try to use no more than 2, 3 at a maximum.

If you're cutting into the middle of a message with a tone tag, you can use brackets, but you don't have to! Do what makes you comfortable.

Use punctuation where you see fit.

You don't have to use tone tags for every message you send/everything you post! Use them when YOU think the tone could be ambiguous or if someone has directly asked you what you mean.

You don't have to know every tone tag ever. I've been using tone tags for a good 2 maybe 3 years now and I mainly use /nm, /j, /srs, /sarc and /pos.

I also use /silly, which I'm not sure is an actual tone tag. I use this if something I say seems passive aggressive or if I am in fact just being silly.

I hope this has helped! Tone tags are something that help me communicate with people and make me more comfortable! And I hope they can make it easier for you to communicate as well :]

about the blog: will use cw/tw tags where needed. i dont personally need tone indicators but i try to use them myself, but usage may be inconsistent. if in doubt, just ask, but 99% of the time i probably sound more cold/angry than i actually am. no dni or dnf just don't be a weird exclusionary or separatist a-hole

for simplicity i will always default to calling myself some combo of: transmasc, queer, aroace, or aro, but i'm all of them at once

gnc transmasc: i am transmasc, not trans man, trans boy, boy, or man (the "boyfriend" in my url is meant to be understood as a separate label from "boy"). i prefer masculine forms of address from non close friends, i do not like any feminine terms like girl, sis, etc. i am not out to anyone except close friends and safe parties (like pride) irl, and am not on hormones and cannot get surgery for a variety of reasons, but i do not mind dressing feminine, but by default i kinda tend towards tomboyish fashion regardless

bellusromantic: i enjoy conventionally romantic (as per US social norms) gestures in purely platonic contexts, such as holding hands, cuddling, cheek and hand smooching, calling my friends babe/dear, etc. not fond of mouth kissing.

idemromantic: probably bcus of the audhd, but i do not and have never seen an actual difference between "being besties" and "being romantically involved" - i lovingly call myself homie oriented. internally i never understood a sentiment of "more than friends" or whatever and politically speaking i am loudly, angrily critical of said sentiment.

lovequeer: a term i saw on tumblr a few days ago at time of writing. i feel like my relationship to the concept and feeling of "love" is inherently queer (as in "odd/weird" /pos)

bi-alterous: even though i'm aroace, "bi" was the first queer label i ever connected to, and im not willing to drop it. i am able to form close, intimate relationships with any person of any gender

sex repulsed ace: im repulsed by the idea and concept of specifically irl sex/pornography. i indulge in the occasional smutty fanart or smut fic bcus sadly i do have a libido, but i currently and for the foreseeable future only trust one person with any smut oriented discussion and i only make jokes with close friends

Do not expect me to post in main tags often, I just had to post all this because Sunny, my love, my chaotic little bird man. I had to share all the stuff I've found and/or screenshotted about him with you all because I'm obsessed to an insane degree. Commentary will be included on stuff. Some of the few bits of info we have about Sunny, from Clown's old deleted blog. Things of interest include him being friends with Barnaby, an inkling of what his house looks like and where it would be located, and what puppet type he was. Also, the hidden text on his picture. Keep in mind that "being quiet" was a large theme back in the old Welcome Home lore.

An actual high quality version of the Sunny-getting-grabbed-by-puppet-hands pic, since I've seen too many versions of it looking crusty, along with a high-contrast version of it to show the hidden background details.

Group photos of the OG six puppets. Also where my favorite image of Sunny screaming comes from lol. Of course, can't forget that Sunny's name is upside-down in the second pic, hinting at his nature of being different.

But again, Clown said he was just removed because he didn't fit into the story and they don't like "hero types" for it.

Wake up babe, the OG Frank ship is here. Franks's phone not having a 3, and also having a 6 on it could have meant something, who knows (Edit, it's their numbers from that one pic, I was tired lol). Also more "behave" and "listen" stuff included as well. Anyways observations aside, I just love how floofy Sunny is in the second pic, it gives me life. It's one of the more polished images we get of Sunny, too.

Some more information on what Sunny was planned to be. Points of interest include confirmation that him and Frank indeed were going to be in a relationship, Sunny being a "hero", and Sunny's purpose involving "blow the whistle", which when you pair it with the "be quiet" stuff and focus on "being quiet" really starts to paint a picture and makes me go nuts over what he could have possibly have done. Add the "you're FREE" and again, more things just fall into place. Anyways, "attributes already covered (bird)" makes me laugh.

Anyways onto the more inane stuff (/pos), Frank and Sunny as Ducktales OCs. Everything about the Sunny pic makes me feral and bang my fists on my desk, because he is SO flaming queer, LOOK AT HIS FACE, HIS BODY LANGUAGE, HIS MOVEMENTS, FRANK'S REACTION, THEY ARE BOTH FLAMING GAYS!!! LOVE, ENDLESS LOVE FOR THESE TWO!!!

And lastly to end this all off, Gay People Jumpscare: Electric Boogaloo 2. Sunny's beak being CONE makes me happy. Frank and him physically so close together and Frank blushing makes me happy. Them explicitly being called gay makes me happy.

These two are so delightful, and I like to imagine that in a canon where Sunny still exists, he's accepted into Eddie and Frank's relationship and it's poly and everyone is happy, THE END.

I cannot for the life of me remember where the vision for this ship came from, but all I know is that one night, me and Lexi Moon sat in a call for hours talking about how this all starts in a Lowe's parking Lot.

The short version: Midnight Cravings refers to the pairing between Sam, Asher, and David.

No, I'm not kidding when I say this all starts in a Lowe's parking lot (/lh). In the version of canon for this pairing, "Angel" and "Baaabe" aren't present, meaning Asher and David are still roommates/living together. They're best friends who are both pining but far too scared to actually make a move one way or the other. Now, on one fateful night, Sam and Asher meet formally for the first time. Ash is leaving the store, having been there to pick something up for the apartment. As he's leaving, he spots Sam and is like "Hey, I think I know you! You're one of the vampires from the Solaire clan, right?" Meanwhile, Sam is like "...Who are you?" "Asher. Beta of the Shaw Pack." "..." "What...?" "I just… I thought you'd look… more… I don't know" "Like what~? Are you saying I don't look like a sexy lumberjack?" "That is not what I meant." But Sam's laughing, so you already know the vibes are there (/pos).

The two get to talking for a good bit in the parking lot until the lights start to go out/the store is closing for the night. Asher asks Sam if he'll need any help with his purchases, essentially offering to help unload stuff if Sam wants. Which is how Asher ends up at the residence of the southern vamp. While the two are at his place, the southern hospitality is out in full force. Sam offers Ash something to drink, the two pick up their conversation from before— which eventually drifts to David. Based on how Asher's talking about him, Sam assumes and asks if David and Asher are dating. However, Asher quickly sets the record straight, clarifying that they're friends. It's obvious that admitting that is complicated, and Asher tries to play it off as more of a joke, saying something along the lines of "Sometimes, I just wish I could forget, you know?" (About what? Yes.)

So what does Sam do? Offers to be a distraction.

It starts out tame enough. Music is put on, Sam offers to cook if Asher hasn't had anything to eat, and they're both subtly flirting with each other. Asher, wanting to be proactive, asks directly what things are going to look like between the two of them. Sam replies with something along the lines of "You tell me, Pup. I'm down for whatever you're feeling up to— Whether that's tonight or down the line."

Almost immediately after that, Asher gets a text from David. Originally, Ash had been gone to go to the store. While he's known to get distracted and such, it had been long enough that David was starting to get worried. ou can see the complicated feelings clouding Asher's face in real time, the pining, the sadness, the frustration— Sam takes the phone from Asher's hand and sets it face down. "Look at me. You get to call the shots tonight. You want out of your head? Tell me what you want." And Asher is looking. Sam texts back "Ran into a friend, don't wait up. I'll tell you tomorrow." And when Asher looks at him again, he's smiling but with an apparent, underlying sadness. "I want to forget. Please." And it's easy for Ash to fall into this because instead of dealing with all the pining and chasing after David, he's fully in the present.

Now all that right there? Night one. Consider that the appetizer to all that the ship offers/becomes later on. Sam and Asher keep up this situationship/friends with benefits-esque dynamic for awhile, enjoying the bond shared. While this is all going on, David is starting to notice the shifter's new bond with the vampire, and it's stirring up all kinds of emotions in him for obvious reasons. To try and condense some of my remaining thoughts:

You get Asher and David being pining dumbasses while Sam watches with a near constant internal sigh at them both

Down the line, Sam brings up that he really likes Asher, which is reciprocated of course. But he also points out that he can tell Asher is clearly in love with David, which Ash deflects terribly. ("Psh, what? I don't— That's not even true anymore, we're just—" "How long ya gonna stand here playing this game?")

I think Sam "Can y'all act right?" Collins is a menace. He can see David and Asher's pining from a mile away and he's seen it up close from Asher. However, David is hesitating to make a move/pursue/do anything about his feelings. So Sam's gonna have fun with that

Have I mentioned how much I adore Sam in this pairng? Because listen— You can argue it's a bit out of character, but I think Sam can be a lot "meaner" and direct than most people give him credit for (just look at Imperium, hello? /pos) Like I love chewing on Sam's demeanor for this dynamic >>>. It's not possessive because he's more than willing to share Asher. It's basically Sam/David playing a game of chicken except it's got a "Yes and?" vibe. Sam's baiting David, sending signals that "You want in on this? Show it then." Meanwhile, David's just further digging himself a hole because he absolutely wants in— Not just with Asher but Sam as well— But is convincing himself he shouldn't be there.
