Of all the pairings in My Hero, why Edgejeanist? How'd you discover their potential?

Oh god this is a good question- here we go lmao

STRAP IN, you are getting a story /lh:

To start with: Jeanist is my favourite character in the entire franchise.

I didn’t think he was interesting at first, and my first impressions of him were. Very contrasted to how he actually is. (I, for some reason, had this impression he would be a very cowardly, annoying character that would sacrifice others to save himself)

(don't ask how, but that was the first impressions i got from seeing him visually)

So when Kamino happened, I suddenly just went "Oh. I was very wrong about this character. This is now my favourite character."

So, fast forward ONE DAY, and I've got a whole set of hcs and thoughts for Jeanist. But I need more content

So I rewatch the Kamino Arc.

Thats when Edgeshot comes on the screen and I actually notice him properly for the first time, I immediately liked his design and-

Quite literally couldn't make this up if i tried-

My Brain basically just CLICKED and I went "Oh. I feel something here. I also like this character let me look them up."

I noticed a) they were next to each other in the ranking and b) are of similar age.

And then my brain just went: Oh. There's a possibility for a ship here.

I had a very strong feeling about it and immediately took to shipping them from that one feeling.

I then looked up the ship and found next to nothing for them.

Turned to tumblr and found one ask blog and asked them what the name of the ship was, they said 'edgejeanist' and then. didnt. post again. sadly.

so I looked up the tag and there were about two or three total posts for them. and none were active makers for the ship.

SO

I took matters into my own hands and learnt how to draw digitally purely for the sake of making stuff for this ship. Started writing for them too.

fastforward 3 years and here we are!! The community has grown AMAZINGLY, we've got shit happening in canon, and I am still here LMAO

OR, basically: I saw them, and instantly shipped them on a whim from a deep rooted feeling of them clicking together and then i fell down the rabbit hole and am still here 3 years later lol

A little personal background story from yours truly about 9/11 under the cut

Thinking back on the post I reblogged, it reminds me of why OoT became such a formative experience for me, because I had played it in the aftermath of 9/11. I was 11 at the time, and had already been subjected to some harrowing experiences that really made me feel othered. To give just one example, at the time I was going to a school that was probably 95% white, most of the kids being Italian Catholics. I am Italian on my mom's side, but I took so much after my dad's looks that for all intents and purposes I looked like and was treated as a brown kid. That alone was enough to fuck with me for years because I felt like I was being rejected by my own kind. It wasn't necessarily that I had no friends; I did have friends, I was the weird nerdy kid that went off the rails on my interests. However, I was never considered one of *them*, and for the people that bullied me they often bullied me because of stupid things like *smelling* like curry which had me so paranoid I was locking my clothes in the closet, and having a weird sounding family name that no one could pronounce properly. Just for added context, my grandfather was friends with the school principal who was an old Italian lady and knew many of these kids' grandparents as well, and yet I was still rejected and treated as the brown kid. Post 9/11, my French teacher, in front of the whole class, points to me and the other Arab kid in my class and asks if it's true that our religion mandates killing disbelievers, that if men die in that line of duty they will get 72 virgins in heaven. I remember that other kid looking at me as if I was supposed to know the answer and needless to say, that damaged my sense of belonging even more because everyone was just *staring* and well...yeah. ANYWAYS, playing OoT at a time where it felt like the whole world was trying to villainize me for things that were completely out of my control and then seeing the Gerudo, how their world villainized them, how at the time their emblem was so similar to the one used by my religion, how the Gerudo's goddess was seen as evil really just had me going "Oh, you guys too huh. You girls seem pretty alright. Maybe your king isn't as bad as this game is trying to tell me he is. I'm not as bad as the world is telling me I am. " Ganondorf, for all his villainy, became like a hero in my eyes. I think, had I played OoT at any other point in my life it would have not affected me as deeply as it had at that point.

Of course this is one of the many, many things that I continued to suffer post 9/11, but ya know. I often see Ganondorf stans are people who have suffered deep pain in their lives and I can understand that so much. I always admired Ganondorf because he had the balls to not accept being told he was inferior to others, that he fought back and seized what he believed was his right to have, that he refused to bow, and I always carried that with me until slowly I became that person that didn't accept shit from others and began to live my life the way I wished and made my place in this world.

Was looking back at/collecting some old art and I found some art from a project I did for graphic design my senior year. honestly I didn’t need to go so hard but goddamn

project was basically making some fake assets for a mobile game based on a genre we chose- I chose a rhythm game. It was much fun

I didn’t get to concept all the characters so I used what I had come up with for some designs on the fly in the “cover image”

all the characters were basically representations on colors/the visible light spectrum and their designs were basically made to embody what my brain thought of when given that vague idea along with a mostly monochromatic color scheme

for some reason i had thought ellie began as a face 3 roe but nope, she's been face 2 all along! her facial features (eye shape, jaw shape, etc.) were definitely different though, maybe that's where i got confused.

i really did for the most part nail ellie's design right off the bat lol

19. Talk about something that happened in middle school.

Grew up around cows on tether ropes (neighbors hired them to eat the tall grass on their lawns-- not nearly as large a lawn as you're thinking) and spent middle school bringing over grass they couldn't reach or refilling their giant water pails or helping them walk about and untangle their leashes from trees, etc.

One of the cows had a calf, and it roamed freely for a few months (to a year?) before the owners moved it elsewhere. Beautiful little golden-brown thing~; and, though shy, let me get some pets in if I had grass with me.

24. Talk about something someone told you that meant a lot.

I get consistent reports that I'm funny (despite my shy and painfully silent tendencies.) There are a few one-off crack comments that I'll think up and put out there in conversation; and those seem to work. ;))

Sadly since the games and various other things have yet to be uploaded to the site, there's not a whole lot to do on Neopets Classic at the moment. HOWEVER, it's SO nostalgic just ambling around to the different parts of the site that I used to frequent as a kid, AND I got a cool, painted Neopet! I can at least make enough money to keep him fed for now, and overall I'm actually having a lot of fun.
