Song: Livin´ on a prayer by Bon Jovi
Tumblr media
Things have been rough for Ogata after Karafuto to say the least. Ever since he decided to do things his own way for once, think for himself and just do whatever he wanted for a change. And now there really was only place for him to go, it was the only thing he had left, the only thing he wanted in his life, the only thing keeping him sane. Well (Y/N) wasn´t a thing, she was a person. A person that was very important to him. He couldn´t tell if it was love since he never experienced that in his whole life, neither on the giving nor receiving end. So he didn´t want to call it that as long as he himself didn´t understand it fully.
He actually felt relieved when he entered the backdoor of her establishment, he couldn´t risk being seen and pulling her into his mess. She already did so much for him, she didn´t deserve the consequences of his actions. (Y/N) was about the only person he´d be considerate towards to.
The two of them always have been close, they hit it off as soon as they met. It was to be expected since brothels were always his home, though to be fair he still figured out what that even meant. But she really helped him with all of that, with his emotions, she didn´t look at him full of disgust and hate when he told her how he never felt guilty for his kills. And she was also the one who always listened to him, he trusted her enough to tell her all about his gruesome deeds in war.
Sometimes when he had a particularly bad day he´d even sleep over at her place. Most of the times he couldn´t sleep but he noticed that he was calmer in her arms, he liked cuddling a lot and she especially made him feel safe. Like nothing would happen to him. Because she wouldn´t let it. And that was because she actually cared, a lot more than she let on. Ogata saw her as a friend because he was too scared of anything more intimate even though they crossed that line a long time ago. And (Y/N) wanted to give him all the time he needed to figure things out on his own, she didn´t want to pressure him into a relationship just because she caught feelings.
As soon as she saw him she smiled slightly, already looking around the rooms to see which of the women were free currently. “Ah, no need.” he said as he noticed what she was doing. He appreciated it, she always had the prettiest women serve him but to him that was her. Especially lately on his journey when he laid awake at night, all alone. He just couldn´t stop thinking about her. “Alright, do you want some tea?” she asked, her gentle smile on her lips as always. He nodded as he took off his coat and put it on some chair where he sat down, running his hand through his hair to keep it out of his face.
During his travels he learned how to snipe again, he might have gotten just a tad bit better if that even was possible, he also put in his fake eye already, not really wanting to gross her out too much. When (Y/N) came back with the tea she noticed that he seemed to be deep in thought, which wasn´t uncommon for him but today it seemed especially serious. So she just sat down next to him, sipping on her cup of tea and waiting if he would say something. She didn´t mind the silence with him, she knew he wasn´t that big of a talker. Though sometimes he did surprise her.
“I´m glad you´re back, I missed you” her voice was quiet as she said it, it was the first time actually admitting her feelings for him, he was gone for quite a bit and she was so scared of never seeing him again, she just couldn´t keep it to herself any longer. She didn´t care if he didn´t feel the same but she couldn´t just act as if there was nothing between the two of them anymore.
He wordlessly blinked at her, needing some time to process what she said and come up with a sarcastic remark to hide his actual feelings because intimacy scared him.
“Aw come on, I´m not that good in bed” he smirked, she rolled her eyes chuckling but then looked him straight in the eyes, well eye… “Yes you are and you know it” she shot back, a sly grin on her face, knowing he knew that it wasn´t all there was to it. Even if he wasn´t ready to face it yet, he couldn´t escape from the fact that she liked him more than she should anymore. And maybe he did too. It was most probable but he pushed that thought to the back of his mind. It was too late for him anyway, there was no chance in hell she´d still want him with his injury. But he was quite surprised she didn´t say something about that earlier. She must´ve noticed as soon as she saw him, but he appreciated her not saying anything, giving him enough space and room to address it on his own if he wished to. But (Y/N) was someone who would never force anything out of him so even if he´d stay quiet for the rest of the night she would never hold it against him.
But he did end up saying something about it. That cocky attitude soon being washed away by his insecurities as he stared holes in his tea, he had both of his hands holding onto his cup to warm up.
“Maybe I was once but I don´t think I am anymore” he quietly mumbled. When he felt her warm hand against one of his, still cold on the outside, he looked up slightly to see her kind and gentle expression. Even after all these years it was still new to him. How anyone could look at him with something else than hate and distrust. Disgust and shame. But there were no such things in her eyes, they were so warm and empathetic, loving even. If being loved meant being safe like he was with her, being looked at like that, he so desperately wanted to be able to express the same to her. Because in that moment he knew he felt it too. Being with (Y/N) was like coming home, having a home in the first place, he never wanted to leave. But at the same time he did, he wanted to leave with her and go on adventures, settle down at the same time, conquer the world and withdraw to the farthest corner with her. If being in love felt like this he understood how greedy and gruesome people got for it. All things considered he already did in his life and didn´t feel guilty about, he´d do things tenfold worse than that if it meant seeing her smile at him for just a moment. Because in that moment everything was fine, everything was peaceful, perfect, calm and … pure. In a sense that was almost comical considering the fact they met and presently were in that same brothel.
Ogata let go of the cup so he could properly hold her hand, not quite facing her just yet but his eyes were fixated on their interlocked fingers now instead of the hot tea. He was quiet for a bit but eventually told her all about his journey and injury. As he realized that she wasn´t judging him for what he did and just listened closely to him, softly caressing his hand at the parts that were hurtful to talk about to him, he felt so secure. He didn´t have to hide the pained expression as he thought about the pain, about the consequences of his actions, about the fact he did something for himself for the first time, not just following orders of a mad man that was too far gone at this point. Parts of his journey felt freeing even, but he paid the price for that. However if that was what it took, what it cost to be reunited with (Y/N), he´d do it all over again. And because he felt so safe with her, knowing she would never judge him for the fact he couldn´t express his feelings as others could, knowing he overall had trouble with emotions, he felt safe enough to tell her how proud he was to be able to call himself a sniper again, that he felt more alive again, like himself, like a breathing human being. Though he didn´t associate the last part with himself before knowing her.
“Really? That´s great,  but then again I didn´t think you wouldn´t be able to. I mean being a sniper is in your blood, it would be tragic if you wouldn´t be able to anymore” she told him, that honest to a fault smile on her face again. That smile he could look at for hours, knowing everything was going to be fine. No matter what went through his mind right now, screw the self destructive thoughts and all the doubts, questioning whether everyone who called him a wildcat was right, none of that mattered when he looked at her.
“You´re making it sound like I can actually be a man again” there it was, his self hatred, that dark chuckle that sounded more like a cry for help for her. She held onto his hand a bit tighter, gently caressing it. “Because you can. You never were anything less to me” she told him, this time averting her eyes. She was getting too bold. He was here for sex, to be a man again like he said. Not for her and her stupid feelings he didn´t even reciprocate. She should just stop it and so she did. (Y/N) wanted to get up and get him the prettiest woman she could find, if she had to continue her work herself. He deserved only the best. And she´d make that happen no matter what it took. But Ogata held her back, holding onto her hand like it was his lifeline because in a sense it was. “No. Stay. I don´t want meaningless sex tonight, I just want you… and I hate that you just made me say that but I know what you´re trying to do. And don´t. Just don´t. I thought we were past the point of sugar coating words so just say it. Say you don´t like me the way I like you and let me leave. Or say you feel the same and never let me go” (Y/N) wasn´t the only person unsure about her and his feelings, but the journey to Otaru made him hyper aware of his own. In a way that almost hurt.
Now it was her turn to wordlessly look at him. She just got a confession. Of his feelings. For her. By none other than Ogata Hyakunosuke. Now that was a rare occurrence if she ever saw one. Before thinking too much about it she pulled him close by the collar of his uniform to kiss him passionately. In this moment Ogata felt himself relax, much more than he already did whenever he was with her. Maybe it was because for once something good happened in his life, for once someone liked him for him, not his sniping abilities, not because of his mother, or his brother or father, not because he was in the 7th or anything like that. No she just liked him for… his personality? It sounded crazy to him to be honest so he thought that it might have something to do with the fact he gave incredibly good head. But maybe that was just because her cunt tasted the sweetest. He kissed her back eagerly, his tongue playing an all too familiar game of catch with hers, leaving him utterly breathless but he didn´t care. He did care about the little coffee table that was in the way between them so he pushed it to the side so he could wrap his arms around her, pulling her as close as humanly possible. She did the same, desperately clinging on to him and there was so much more emotion in the kiss than both of them were ready for, so much piled up feelings that have been repressed far too long.
She softly bit his lip like she always did and he couldn´t help but smile and then slightly chuckle into the kiss, his hands wandering all over her body and undressing her in the process. He used the moment when they broke apart for air to undress himself too, he knew she could get quite impatient in moments like these. When he was done he let (Y/N) marvel at him, she always needed that too. To touch him up like that, feel up his muscles and abs, she especially loved touching his inner thighs, maybe because she knew he was the most sensitive there. He´d hate it with anyone else, hate knowing they knew his most vulnerable spots and all his secrets, but sharing those things with her was much more intimate than he was ready for. But could you ever really be ready for love? Wasn´t that just the thing about it? That it hit you without any warning and then left you breathless?
She herself hated definitions when it came to feelings, you couldn´t explain them, that was the whole point. Instead she showed them with actions, of course she loved him. She knew him well enough after all those years but she still wanted to know even more. She wanted to know everything about him, experience everything with him, she just wanted all of him to herself.
Strangely enough Ogata felt the same about her. Nothing ever truly belonged to him, much less voluntarily stayed with him. But he was so sick of being used like a chess piece because he didn´t feel worthy enough to act on his own impulses, he didn´t really have any besides sex and shooting things. Until she came into his life. Somehow making her laugh was more satisfying to him than making her cum, though he always felt the proudest when he made both happen at the same time.
Just thinking about it and her made him dizzy in the best ways possible.
He hovered over her a bit, resting one of his hands on her cheek and the other on the floor to support his weight as he gently laid her down on the floor. Both of them couldn´t wait long enough to go to a proper room with a bed in it and both of them didn´t want to break their physical connection right now. Ogata was already half hard and normally it took him ages to get to that point so he really must´ve spared himself for her. It made her smile slightly, slowing down the kiss to make it more gentle and meaningful. It ended up being more tongue than lips but they always seemed to end up like that anyway, it was a routine she looked forward to every time.
Slowly but surely she felt his hands wander down to her hips which she spread for him, he broke the kiss to nibble slightly on her neck, leaving his marks this time. He usually didn´t leave any because he was too considerate of her not getting into trouble with other costumers but this time he just didn´t care. He´d much rather have her to himself anyway. And in the end he´d always been a selfish bastard, everything he did was for himself. And he wanted her too. Wanted to claim her as his own, maybe in a possessive way too but definitely not a harmful one. If he knew she didn´t feel the same he´d never have come back in the first place. Though maybe he would. He wouldn´t approach her, but he´d certainly watch her, wallow in his anguish of knowing she´d never love him back. Like all the others. And somehow that would bring him peace, knowing she wasn´t a freak like him.
But he knew better now. He knew that she was just as normal as him, she knew that they were two of a kind and finally he didn´t feel alone in this world anymore, he found a sense of belonging. It was so nice to be free of all the ties that bound him, of all the social status and faking smiles and respect, playing along with whatever sick thing Tsurumi had planned, pretending he didn´t know he was getting manipulated. It was all over now. None of that was on his mind when he was with her, she was his angel, purifying him in a sense. Purifying him in the dirtiest way they both knew. That thought made him grin, gently sliding two fingers over her wet cunt. “What´s so funny?” she smiled down at him, raking her fingers through his hair, spreading her legs even more for him. She loved the way he touched her, he wasn´t rough but also not soft. He was teasing, to an extent where he had her crying, begging him to stop and for more all at once. “Mhm, who knows. Maybe the fact that I got you all to myself now, that even though you get fucked every day I´m still the one who makes you scream the loudest” he whispered in her ear, nibbling on it slightly. She was already panting, how cute. Maybe all the smoking did him some good after all. It was no secret she had a thing for his voice, he never truly understood it but certainly made good use of it. Ogata was never one to talk much, or rather like to talk a lot. It really depended on the topic. He could taunt people for hours but casual talk? That wasn´t so much his forte, well he just didn´t care for it. Unless it was with her. With (Y/N) he could talk for hours on end. Especially if it meant teasing her in this state. He´d never get tired of that.
“My, my… so wet already~ I didn´t even do anything yet, are you that desperate? Can´t say I blame you though” he chuckled darkly, ghosting his fingers over her thighs, never giving her what she truly desired. It was too much fun watching her writhe in his touch.
“Fuck you” she moaned and his grin widened. “Oh come on, can´t even do that on your own? You want me that badly? Want me to make your legs shake with just my tongue? Make you cry out my name so that everyone knows exactly who you belong to? Fuck you so hard you can´t even think for yourself? Just say the word, we both know you want it, there´s no shame in it” he purred, how badly she wanted to wipe this smirk off his face, but she knew well enough that he wouldn´t let her tonight, there were too many emotions boiling over at this point, he was so unhinged, that hungry look in his eye she loved to see, at this point she´d let him do everything he´d damn well pleased, even let him fuck her in front of everyone to see but she knew he was too impatient himself for this right now.
“Just fucking do it” she groaned, not putting up with his teasing tonight, it´s been far too long for him to have an attitude like that. He let it pass since it was her. She wouldn´t be able to formulate coherent sentences in a bit anyway, so it didn´t really matter. “Fine, fine, you´re no fun” that didn´t stop him from teasing her a bit more though, his fingers lazily tracing patterns all over her skin before rubbing over her pussy, grinning as he put them in front of her mouth. “Go on, taste yourself for me”
She blushed, he was always so bold and yet she didn´t dislike it one bit, being obedient for him and opening her mouth so she could suck on his fingers. “Good girl” he grinned, starting to stroke his cock for her to see and dipping down to taste her for himself. Hyakunosuke always liked giving oral more than receiving it, he was the one in control, the one who held the power. And oh how immense it was. The second his tongue hit her clit she cried out his name. He had made her wait so long that now everything felt much more intense, a shiver went throughout her body, making her ache for him. Ogata looked up at her like she was a work of art. Not that he´d ever be interested in some boring pieces of painting. No, he meant the art of the battlefield, the art of his craft, the art he could understand and worship, the art he could relish in. She was an artform that only he could grasp and understand completely, just like he was for her, two outcasts of society, dancing and laughing in the bloody rain all alone while everyone else whispered among themselves just how fucking insane they were. And yes maybe they were, but did that really matter? The way they viewed the world was just so much more fun. They got everything they wanted after all, not being on any sides, just doing whatever they felt like whenever and craving chaos and their touch most of all.
Ecstasy.
Being with Ogata was pure ecstasy. It wasn´t even just sexual, (Y/N) and him felt completely and utterly understood for the first time in their lives. He chuckled darkly as his grip on her hips became that much tighter, as he felt the fiery passion only she could ignite in him, she was his driving force and only for her he wasn´t selfish. Eating her out gave him a weird sense of peace and belonging, for the first time in his life the voices were quiet, he was calm, her scent and taste calmed him down so much it was almost unbelievable. He always was so rough at first, diving his tongue and fingers in and out of her, overstimulating her clit in the process, but every time he had those almost romantic epiphanies in which he slowed down to appreciate the way she would look down to him, those beautiful eyes she could barely keep open, that mouth hanging wide open calling his name, those hands on his head, gripping his hair, tugging at it just the right way…
He grinned widely and sped up the movement of his tongue just enough to make her legs shake before moving away completely, making her whine and leaving her hanging. Ogata liked teasing her way too much. Maybe because he hoped she would take revenge one day. He liked playing with the thought of her completely and utterly dominating him and paying him back for every time he teased her a tad too much. But for now he simply kissed her with a softness that was so unexpected from a man like him. This gentleness she only experienced with him, the way he deepened the kiss and wouldn´t let go of her waist all the while. The way his fingers traced her stomach and then rubbed against her wet folds, slowly slipping in. He started to move them immediately, slowly at first since their kiss was still so gentle. He did crave those silent and quiet moments of inner peace he only found with her. She moved her hips along with him, with every curling motion of his fingers she panted heavier. He chuckled against her lips and hovered over her a bit, adding another finger that he just knew wouldn´t fill her up enough. He knew it and he anticipated it, anticipated the moment he would finally be able to give her what she really wanted, to feel those tight walls around his cock, he wasn´t a religious man but fuck if that wasn´t what heaven felt like. He groaned slightly at just the thought which was something he never did. Be vocal about his own pleasure and desires that was. But she made it so easy. Like it wasn´t something to be ashamed of, like he was normal. He hated feeling like an outsider, like the weirdo, like an abomination his parents always reminded him he was. But he never felt like that with her, she didn´t let him. She just made him feel like a man. And recently she became more bold, making him feel like a king instead. Hell, a god even. She really did love him, huh?
Love was such a foreign concept to him but with her he felt like he could actually grasp it. It was in the way her moans grew louder as he added another finger, driving her insane, she was just so impatient he loved every second. He liked to think that he was always in control in his life but she made him lose it all. He looked forward to it every damn time.
“Please… Hyakunosuke… I can´t wait much longer” she looked up at him with such pleading, irresistible eyes. How could he say no? Especially when she moaned his name so sweetly? He stroked his cock a few more times before he spread her legs even more, finally becoming one with her. She smiled up at him, watching every inch of him disappear inside of her, filling her up like nothing and no one else could. It filled Ogata with such an immense amount of pride, it was almost sacrilegious. It was in moments like this when they became one that she felt truly at home, it was the most natural feeling in the world to her and yet it was the most amazing one every damn time. Only with him could she feel this way. More than that she wanted to feel like this only with him. If there was ever someone else who wanted to steal those moments and feelings from her she´d beg Ogata to shoot them all down. And he would. Because for her he´d do anything. Especially if she was watching with those kind eyes of hers, that smile to show him she was proud of him…
And he was a greedy man, as if he´d ever let another bastard touch her the way he did, moan for him like she did for him, look at him like she was so in love she couldn´t even think straight anymore, look at him the way he looked at her. He grunted as he started moving, slower than usual, he wanted to savor every moment. She really was made just for him, clenching around his cock so deliciously. And then it hit him, she was just as greedy as he was. The thought made him moan and grin like a madman. In his euphoria he started moving faster, not even caring about the very thing he was scared of the most until it finally happened. At a particularly hard thrust of his, his fake eye fell out and landed on her stomach. Dread didn´t even come close to what he was feeling in this moment. He expected everything, her to scream, yell at him and run for the hills. To absolutely hate and despise him, to laugh at him, to throw up from how ugly he was now… but he didn´t expect her to smile up at him. He didn´t expect her to rest your hand on his cheek, stopping for a moment to kiss him softly and look at him full of worry.
“Did it hurt?” she asked quietly, putting the eye back in gently, maneuvering him so he laid on his back now. And he let her. They were still connected, maybe it was fucked up but her kind and gentle soul, her genuine kindness went right to his cock. He chuckled at her question and decided not to ignore it like he initially wanted to. No, with her he could be honest and vulnerable. Hell, she was the only person in this world who wouldn´t take advantage of it. “Actually I didn´t feel anything, got shot with a poison arrow” he said so casually and watched her lips twitch upwards as you laughed a little. Cute. “Lucky you. But the poison didn´t spread out much, did it? So… you can still feel this?” she accentuated her last question with a roll of her hips, propping herself up and leaning back just a bit so she would tighten beautifully around his cock. He bit back a groan and grinned up at her. “Feel what? I guess you´re gonna have to try harder to suck the poison out of me” it was a dare and he knew it, he also knew that she could very well just stand up and walk out of the room in just this instance to leave him to take care of himself. He knew that very well and still he craved to walk this thin line with her, testing the waters, no they were beyond that point now. He was slowly wading through her ocean just to the point where he couldn´t stay anymore and then he´d tease her to the moment he was completely underwater, seconds away from drowning. And then he´d behave again. Because fuck did he need her, cumming without (Y/N) wasn´t any fun. For some reason she let him every single time. Well no, she did punish him quite a bit which to be fair he always looked forward to a little too much. She sat on his cock, throbbing inside of her and stared him down, arms folded over her chest. She was waiting, testing how long it would take him to lose his mind. But both of them knew that he had been beyond that point for a long time now. Without any warning she lifted her hips off him until only his tip remained inside and then bounced down, taking all of him once again. She planned to be gentle with him today since it´s been so long since they last saw each other. But (Y/N) was getting impatient. And he was getting too cocky.
“Oh fuck, yup I definitely felt that one” he smirked up at her. “Good boy” she said sweetly and his smirk widened. He always was putty in her hands, he usually hated following orders but with her it was more than okay. She always took such good care of him. And hearing her praise him made it all worth it, all he wanted was to do a good job for her. He just wanted to be hers completely. She grinned down on him and he was in heaven. With every movement and thrust of her hips he became utterly lost in her, as if he wasn´t already. He wasn´t a religious man by any chance but if he could choose his deity it would be (Y/N). Hyakunosuke had a feverish look on his face as he watched her ride him, his hands gripping herr hips tightly, guiding them. Not that she needed any guiding but he felt like he would lose his mind if he didn´t touch her as much as he could. He had long since put any shame aside and moaned loudly now. “Please… please” he whispered, her name hanging from his lips like a prayer. “I know, baby, I know” she cooed, picking up pace all at once, her hips snapping and rocking against his, taking the breath out of him. He looked so irresistible underneath her, how could she hold back? Not when he looked up at her like she was a goddess. (Y/N) felt a rush go through her as she saw the way he looked at her, knowing she was the only one who ever saw this much emotion in him, being the only one he was so devout to. “Fuck...Fuck!” he groaned, he was close and he felt her tightening around him as well, he always tried to cum second but she made it especially hard today. His eyes rolled back as he dug his nails into her hips, thrusting up into her like a madman until he finally felt release. She felt it spill out while he was still inside. As always his voice was what brought her over the edge, the way he moaned herr name like the only thing that mattered. It was just perfect. She didn´t stop moving, instead opting to ride him slowly until she was exhausted as well, overstimulating him just a bit. He was still delirious from the pain and the medicine he took not to die, but she was the only thing he saw clearly. Ogata waited until she climbed down from him before he pulled her close to kiss her deeply, his hands roaming over your naked form. “I should visit more often” he mumbled, closing his eye, feeling at peace for the first time in years.

drunk in love
pairing - yeosang x fem reader
genre - fluff, angst (?)
tw - lots of alcohol consumption, swearing
wc - 10k
side ships - seongjoong, yungi
a/n -- was meant to be angst but turned into fluff... im trying my best to get better at writing angst aaaah. but please enjoy this for now <3 thanks for letting me tag you @iminchaosnow !!
------------------------------------------- you had known kang yeosang for nearly two years now. two, dreadfully slow and exhausting years.it was your final year of high school when he transferred to your school, he was a close family friend of wooyoung's. his parents had spoken highly of the school, insisting that yeosang transfers in order to excel for his last year of schooling. as far as you were concerned, he had decent grades, but he preferred to spend his time hanging around the skatepark after dark, when everyone else had left.
and in all the two years you'd known him, you had never once had a full conversation with him, despite being in your group of friends. his side of the 'conversation' usually consisted of monotonous 'yeahs' and 'mhms'. wooyoung constantly assured you it was because he's shy and that he'd eventually open up. but you weren't convinced. you tried so hard for him to like you, but your efforts were fruitless. it was infuriating, feeling like you were constantly doing something wrong whenever you were around him.
you currently found yourself in the backseat of yeosang's car, wedged between a drunken yunho and mingi while a chaotic wooyoung was singing along to his chosen playlist. (though, it sounded more like wailing.)
you and the eight boys had all decided to take a gap year, spend every last cent you earned on adventure and alcohol to make lifelong memories, before your careers became a blockade in your friendship. but the year was coming to an end soon, it was already mid november. on the bright side, that meant your favourite holidays were just weeks away.
yeosang was always the designated driver. that was something you had noticed about him over the last few years. to be honest, you weren't sure just how he coped with a screeching wooyoung, because you sure as hell weren't dealing very well with yunho and mingi who were playing a very intense game of rock paper scissors to decide who would be crashing on the couch in your apartment.
"i win!" mingi cheered, waving his hands excitedly. "you're on the couch, man."
yunho frowned, "damn."
you laughed, "it's okay, yunho. you can share the bed with me if you'd like."
"hey! that's not fair y/n! you said i could this time." wooyoung whined from the front seat.
"sorry, woo. you know i keep my promises, but you're going back to your apartment. remember?" you tried to reason.
wooyoung looked as though someone had switched a lightbulb on behind his eyes, "oh yeah! i forgot."
the four of you burst into laughter, mainly caused by the alcohol and partially because of wooyoung's realisation. and still, yeosang didn't crack a smile, hands just gripping the steering wheel tighter as his knuckles turned white.
soon, you arrived outside your apartment block, quickly stepping out the car after yunho. wooyoung wound his window down and you poked your head in, attempting to hug him goodbye.
"bye woo!" you said, giggling at your faltered farewell.
"good night y/n, thanks for the drinks!" he shouted, exclaiming a bit too loudly next to your ear.
"thanks for the lift as always, yeosang!" you yelled, pulling away from wooyoung's tight hug.
he nodded, "no problem." before putting the window up and driving away.
you pouted, turning around to face the two boys. "i just don't understand what i'm doing wrong." you buried your face into your hands, "why doesn't he like me?" you groaned.
"y/n." mingi began, "its nearly 1am, its way too late for this 'why does yeosang hate me?' crap." he shook your shoulders, literally trying to shake some sense into you.
"yeah, mingi's right. we've had this discussion a thousand times." yunho said grasping your wrist and pulling you up the stairs, stumbling along the way. (because lets be real, stairs are difficult enough as it is, let alone when drunk.) "now, let us into your apartment so we can eat your food and crash on your couch!" he joked, nudging mingi in a playful manner.
you reached into your pocket and fumbled around with they key for a moment before unlocking the door. the boys practically pushed you inside and made a beeline for the fridge.
"help yourselves! i'm going to shower." you called, dragging yourself to your bedroom.
once you'd finished showering you went back to the living room to check on yunho and mingi. not so much to your surprise, they had fallen asleep on your couch already, cuddled up into each other. it was cute, even picture worthy to show their sober selves. you reached for your phone which typically lived in your pocket, though you began to panic when it wasn't there. hurrying around the apartment, you searched every possible nook and cranny for your phone, but it was nowhere to be found. you collapsed onto your bed, snuggling into the soft sheets, too tired to worry about your phone anymore and content with the assumption that you'd left it in yeosang's car.
shortly, your heavy eyes fell shut and you began to sleep away the tequila.
————————
the next morning you awoke to mingi and yunho's deep, hungover voices, discussing their plans for the next week.
you reluctantly pulled yourself out of bed and dawdled down the hallway.
"ah! there's our favourite karaoke partner!" yunho greeted, jokingly.
you laughed, "shh, don't let wooyoung hear you say that."
"she's right, man. he'd be so offended." mingi said, stretching out his sore limbs. "how are you feeling today, y/n?" he asked.
"not the worst hangover i've had. what about you guys? you're welcome to stay here as long as you'd like, until you feel better." you replied, knowing them well enough to know that they'd need at least a few painkillers and a good meal before they went home.
yunho chuckled, "i feel like crap, but nothing a sandwich and glass of water can't solve."
"i second that." mingi said, raising a hand.
"okay, well in that case, i'll go to the store and get something for breakfast. sound good?" you reasoned, running a hand through your hair. you loved these boys, and making them breakfast was just a nice way of showing you cared. drunk or not, they knew how to make you smile and laugh, which they loved to see.
"sounds amazing!" yunho said, breaking into a sincere smile.
you quickly changed out of your pyjamas and slipped some shoes on.
"i might be a bit longer, i need to stop by yeosang's. i think i left my phone in his car." you explained, picking your keys up from the kitchen counter. "see you guys soon! feel free to take a shower if you want." you said, waving goodbye and heading out the door.
"okay, bye y/n!" the boys called from behind you.
the first stop was yeosang's apartment, he only lived about ten minutes away with wooyoung and san, in the same building as jongho. both yunho and mingi lived on the other side of town, which is why they so often crashed at your place after parties. seonghwa and hongjoong were fortunate enough to live in a house, just outside town, they had actually been the hosts of last night's party.
it didn't take long to get there. you pushed open the lobby door and made your way over to the elevator, disappointed to see that it was out of order for maintenance. instead, you took the stairs and began spiralling upwards. less than a minute later you looked up, only to bump into the man you came looking for.
"oh, yeosang! i'm so sorry, i didn't mean to." you quickly apologised, worried about creating another reason for him to dislike you.
"it's fine." he shrugged.
you both began to talk again at the same time, "ah, sorry, you go."
"i was just gonna say, you left your phone in my car. actually, i was about to bring it back." he pulled your phone from the pocket of his jacket, handing it to you. as he did, your fingers brushed against his. he spun around suddenly and began to walk away, "i'll see you around."
he had left before you even had a chance to thank him. slightly confused and frustrated, you turned back around and traipsed down the stairs.
you gathered what you needed for a hearty breakfast at the local convenience store before heading home and spending the rest of the day in the enjoyable company of yunho and mingi.
yeosang had entered back into his apartment and sat down on the couch.
"back already?" wooyoung asked, rummaging through the fridge.
"she was coming to get her phone and i ran into her on the staircase."
wooyoung sighed, "when are you gonna stop hating her?"
"i don't hate her." yeosang said, not looking up from his phone.
"then why do you act like you do?"
yeosang pretended to not hear that question and continued to scroll through his phone. see, he'd rather not dwell on things that he couldn't understand.
————————
to fill up your weekdays during your gap year, you had picked up a job at a hotel in town as a receptionist. to your dismay, your boss had asked you to work night shift all week, which is how you found yourself here on thursday night, sitting alert and waiting for the slight chance that someone might check in at this time of night. it was a pretty fancy hotel, and the job payed well enough, so really, you had nothing to complain about.
the nights seemed to drag on for an eternity. to keep yourself busy, you often wasted time counting the cars that drove past, or tried to count the number of crystals that hung from the chandelier. so far, only a few people had checked in during your shift, having come from overseas and recently arriving at the airport. honestly, whenever someone walked through the front door, lugging a suitcase behind them, you got excited as it gave you something to do.
the clock was creeping up to 4am and you let out a quiet yawn, feeling drowsy as your body clock hadn't yet adjusted to the change of sleeping patterns on such short notice. taking a sip of water, you shook your head, trying to stay awake. your head suddenly jolted up at the sound of the front door opening.
a man stumbled forward, and you'd seen enough zombie movies to become instantly paranoid. you quickly pushed the thought out of your head, feeling ridiculous for even considering it. but as the man got closer, you could smell the cheap, potent alcohol lingering on his body.
he leant against the desk, peering down at you. "i need a room for the night."  he grumbled. "my stupid wife kicked me out." he said under his breath.
you forced a friendly smile, despite feeling uneasy, "of course! i just need you to fill in this form with some simple details." you said, sliding across a clipboard and a pen.
he huffed, picking up the pen and scribbling onto the sheet of paper before pushing it back to you. "can i go now?"
"just a moment, sir." you replied, eyes skimming over the form as you copied the information into the computer in front of you.
the man was growing impatient, stepping from foot to foot with his arms crossed.
"uh, sir, you missed a part of the form. could you please provide your phone number here." you pointed to the empty space on the sheet.
"for fucks sake." he muttered, "i don't have my phone on me and i don't know my phone number." he said, annoyedly tapping on the desk.
"i'm really sorry, sir, but—"
"can't you just find me a fucking room?" he snapped, hands balled into fists and slamming against the desk, making you jump in fright.
before you had time to try and reason with him, he continued to shout.
"you're as stupid as my wife! i'll just find a different fucking hotel." he yelled, swiping the clipboard and pen off the desk. "useless bitch." he mumbled as he kicked over a chair on his way out.
you chewed your bottom lip, trying to fight back the tears. with shaky hands, you picked up your phone and dialled the first place that came to mind. after a few rings, the phone answered.
"woo?" you croaked, trying hard to not cry.
"he's asleep. this is yeosang." he replied, evidently having just woken up by the sound of his voice.
"oh." you began, instantly feeling guilty for waking him up, "i'm sorry i didn't mean to disturb you."
"did you need something?" he asked.
"i just, i was..." you let out a sob, wiping at a tear falling from your eye.
this didn't go unnoticed by yeosang, "are you crying? what are you doing awake right now anyway?"
"i'm at work." you managed to choke out.
"at 4am?"
"i'm on night shift."
"why are you crying then?" he asked, feeling something slightly tug at his heart, but choosing to ignore it.
you began to ramble, "a man came in and he was really drunk and complaining about his wife and then he yelled at me because i asked him to give his phone number and—"
"i'm on my way." yeosang cut you off.
"what?"
"i'll be there in ten." with that, he hung up the phone.
exactly ten minutes later, you were sat in the passenger seat of yeosang's car. he was dressed in sweats, clearly having come straight from bed. you'd left a note on the desk, explaining to your coworker why you wouldn't be there when she arrived to take over your shift. a silence filled the car, and you felt the need to talk, but chose not to, worried about giving yeosang another reason to hate you.
once you arrived outside your apartment building, you were surprised that yeosang got out the car too and trailed closely behind you up the stairs to your apartment. when you reached the door you spun around to face him.
"thank you for bringing me home." you said, voice quiet and still rather shaken up.
"it's no problem. good night, y/n." he replied, sensing that you were still upset. he suddenly felt this overwhelming urge to wrap his arms around you tightly and not let go until you stopped crying. he wanted to protect you from every drunk idiot on the planet. he wanted to make you feel safe.
but instead, he watched as you closed the door behind you and locked it from inside.
————————
you arrived at work the next morning, instantly feeling more comfortable with cleaners, employees and people coming and going. immediately, you headed for your boss's office.
"good morning, sir. i just wanted to come and apologise for leaving my shift early last night. i can assure you it won't happen again." you said, feeling nervous as to what your boss might say.
he shook his head, "i should be the one apologising, a man came in this morning and spoke very sternly about the safety problems here. i realise now how stupid it was of me to make you work night shift, alone, at such a young age. we've hired security guards and have also made sure that two people will be on desk at all times. i'm sorry that you had to deal with that."
you were at a loss for words, you didn't think that there would be such drastic changes just from the once incident. "thank you so much." you replied.
"for now, take the rest of the day off. you'll only be working day shifts for next week and can return to doing night shifts whenever you feel ready to do so." your boss said, motioning for the door.
the rest of the day you spent in deep sleep, catching up on some much overdue rest.
———————
weeks passed and you found that work was much more enjoyable. you still hadn't returned to working night shifts, but at least now you had someone to run the front desk with you and keep you company.
this weekend, you were going to visit hongjoong and seonghwa. hongjoong was sick and so you decided to go help out since seonghwa couldn't always be there to look after him.
you knocked on their front door and was surprised to be greeted by san.
"good afternoon! come in." he gave you a hug before ushering you inside.
"what are you doing here?" you said, following him down the hall.
in the living room, you saw all eight of the boys gathered around a couch-ridden hongjoong.
"jongho was already here when me, yeosang and woo arrived." san explained.
"yeah, and then mingi and yunho turned up." wooyoung continued.
"y/n! i have never been more glad to see you! you gotta save me from them." hongjoong laughed, arms open, signalling for a hug.
you went over and embraced him in a hug, "good thing i brought an excessive amount of cookies." you said, placing the box of cookies on the coffee table next to the couch. the table was covered in empty mugs and bowls, you could tell seonghwa had been busy and hadn't had the chance to clean up. you opened up the box and handed him a cookie before offering them around to the rest of the boys.
"you're the best cook ever." mingi said, taking a big bite.
"i made you spaghetti last night!" yunho countered, feeling offended that his roommate didn't think he was the better cook. mingi just laughed and took another bite.
"jongho get off the counter, please." seonghwa said, coming through the front door. "don't be so comfortable, you were throwing up in my toilet like a month ago." he joked.
yeosang glanced your way, his eyebrows furrowed like he was contemplating something.
"lets head off and give these two some space." yunho said, dragging mingi behind him.
wooyoung stood up, "yeah, lets get going."
yeosang pulled his keys from his pocket, "okay, bye guys." he said, heading down the hallway.
"can we get some food on the way home?" you heard san call as they left.
"bye hongjoong! i hope you're feeling better soon." jongho said, "bye seonghwa, i promise i won't throw up in your toilet any time soon." he joked, leaving through the front door.
"seonghwa, how are you? don't forget to take some time for yourself as well." you frowned.
"i'm tired, but i'll be okay. i just gotta clean up and—"
"why don't you go rest a while? i can keep hongjoong company for a few hours." you reasoned, wanting to help as much as possible. there was nothing you hated more than seeing you friends in distress and upset.
he looked between hongjoong and yourself, "i couldn't."
hongjoong let out an audible huff, "hwa! will you just let her help please, she clearly wants to."
you grinned, "exactly, now go read or sleep or watch some tv or something." you said, gently pushing him towards their shared bedroom.
you spent the afternoon tidying up and talking with hongjoong. you managed to do all the dishes and put them away before scouring their kitchen, deciding on what you could use for dinner. you found everything you needed for a decent meal and began cooking it up. hongjoong had dozed off mid conversation, surrounded in a pile of tissues, you chose to let him sleep so he would recover quicker.
about an hour later, you placed two steamy hot meals onto their dining table next to two full glasses of water. you quietly knocked on their bedroom door, finding seonghwa asleep amongst the covers.
you gently shook him awake, "hwa, i made dinner for you guys. you can wake joong up, i'll head off now." you said with a smile.
leaving the two of them to enjoy their dinner, you headed home and cooked yourself something to eat. it was nice having some time to yourself, but saturday nights were becoming more and more empty as winter grew closer. december was only days away and the year would soon come to an end. you reached for the phone, suddenly desperately missing your friends despite only seeing them hours ago.
"hey woo, are you free next weekend?" you asked.
he paused a moment, "i think so, why?"
"you wanna go out with the others? it's been a while since we have all caught up for drinks."
"count me in!" wooyoung cheered.
you called everyone else up and they all agreed, even hongjoong promised to come if he was feeling better.
————————
you found yourself surrounded by wooyoung, san, yunho and mingi as the music blared. it was a less popular club on the far side of town but it was a comfortable place for you all. you often came here for drinks and the staff members knew you, quite well, a little too well. san grabbed your hand and spun you around a few times with the music.
you laughed, leaning against him, "maybe spinning around isn't the best idea right after two shots of vodka."
"what?" san yelled into your ear, struggling to hear you over the music.
you laughed louder, pulling him closer to you, "i said, spinning is not a good idea after drinking vodka!"
"oh!" he joined you in laughing before trying to twirl you around once more.
hongjoong and seonghwa sat at the bar, holding hands and being intimate as always. yeosang was sat next to jongho at a booth, quietly talking with him, but from the corner of your eye, you saw jongho stand up and walk away. your eyes watched him worriedly and you couldn't help but run after him. you followed him as best you could, stumbling every now and then. he'd gone to the bathroom so you patiently waited outside until he came back, looking slightly pale.
you practically leapt at him, doing a quick scan to make sure he was okay, "jongho? are you alright?"
he smiled at your overwhelming concern, "yeah, i just drank too much as usual. i'll be alright, you can go back to dancing."
"let me just get you some water first. i'll be right back okay?" you patted his shoulder. "don't go anywhere i'll be back in a second."
you made your way back to where jongho had been sitting with yeosang. as you approached, yeosang eyed you up and down, taking in your drunken state, though, it wasn't the first time he'd seen you this way. you nearly tripped as you reached the table, struggling to walk in heels.
"i need a glass of water, do you have a glass of water? jongho needs a glass of water." you mumbled to yourself, reaching for the jug in the center of the table.
"are you okay?" yeosang asked, quickly pushing your hand away from the jug.
"i'm okay, but jongho needs water. can i take this cup? he's waiting for me, i told him not to go anywhere, i need to get back to jongho—" you tried to pick up a glass but yeosang pressed your hand back down once more.
"i'll take it to him, you stay here." he said, filling the cup full with water and heading towards the bathrooms.
your brain suddenly felt fuzzy and your eyes became blurry, it was like the alcohol hit your system all at once. your head spun round and round and you leaned forward, resting your hands on your head. you'd never felt this sick from drinking, maybe you'd had too much too quickly, maybe it was the spinning. there was no way to tell, all you knew was that you felt like you were about to fall from the top of a very high roller coaster.
your eyes felt increasingly heavy, you allowed them to slip shut, head falling to the table with a not so gentle thud.
"y/n?" someone shook you, "y/n wake up!" it was wooyoung.
"shit, is she okay? should we call an ambulance?" jongho said, reaching for his phone.
"is she breathing? has anyone checked?" seonghwa gently lifted your shoulders and sat you upright, relieved to see the rise and fall of your chest. "we should call a taxi and get her home."
"are you crazy? she's unconscious, she won't be able to get up the stairs to her apartment! what if the driver is dodgy? she's already had to deal with shitty men while working night shift, imagine if something happened while she's drunk!" yeosang blurted out. the boys were shocked over his sudden concern for you. yeosang had never once shown any interest or care for you in the presence of them.
"well, what should we do then?" mingi asked, worriedly running a hand through his hair.
"i'll take her, you've all been drinking." yeosang concluded. "she'll be fine, don't worry. enjoy the rest of your night, okay? i've dealt with woo passing out before remember?"
"that's true." san said, throwing a light hearted glare in wooyoung's direction, who showed a rather sheepish expression.
the boys went back to their drinks, taking it a little slower now and yeosang carried you to his car. it wasn't easy, but he managed to sit you upright in the back seat of his car with his rear view mirror aimed directly at you so he could make sure you were okay.
he was able to lift you up the stairs and get your house key from the pocket of your jacket, which would've looked questionable to anyone else, but he had the best intentions. he sat you down in a dining chair, watching as your head lolled forward and your body slumped. he quickly filled a glass of water and came back to you.
"y/n." he whispered, resting a hand on your shoulder. "y/n." he said again, louder this time.
the last thing he wanted to do was hurt you, but you weren't waking up and that was becoming concerning. he shook your shoulder, as gently as he possible could in a moment like this, and to his relief, your eyes hesitantly opened.
your head felt like a bowling ball and you groaned quietly. "yeosang?"
"here." he said holding the cup to your lips, allowing you to take a small sip.
"how did we get here?" you mumbled, head rolling to the side.
he caught your head and carefully pushed you back upright, "i drove you, this is your apartment."
"oh." you said, eyes drooping shut again. "oh." you repeated.
"y/n, i really need you to stay awake right now." he said, bringing the cup to your mouth again. "lets talk."
"we never talk!" you exclaimed. "this is the longest conversation we've ever had!"
"i know." he said, pulling up a chair to sit directly in front of you. yeosang felt that slight tug at his heart again tonight, the way you sounded so excited just to talk with him.
"no, no, no." you whined, "this is so bad!"
"what is it?"
you pouted before nervously biting your lip, "i'm really sorry."
"for what?" he questioned, leaning back in his chair.
"for ruining your night and making you stay here with me! now you just have another reason to hate me." you sighed, letting your head fall into your hands.
"i could never hate you." he said, voice barely above a whisper.
but you had fallen back asleep, so yeosang sat you upright once more and monitored you closely all night. with every minute that passed, he wished more and more that it was easier for him to show his emotions, to you especially. he wondered if maybe he wasn't so closed off that things would be different between the two of you. but it was hard for him, to let people in, he was afraid. afraid of people judging the real him, afraid of what might happen if he lets himself become vulnerable, afraid of facing his feelings about you.
you awoke hours later with a raging headache and extreme nausea. you headed straight for the bathroom and hunched over the toilet, feeling the sickest you'd ever felt. yeosang waited patiently outside the bathroom door with a glass of water and painkillers.
when you came out, he held his hand out, "take this."
you looked down at his hand and then up at him, slightly confused, "what are you doing here?"
"you passed out last night, and i drove you home because everyone else had been drinking." he said, passing the glass of water.
"oh my god." you ran a hand through your hair, "yeosang, i'm so sorry. i didn't mean to be any trouble! you must of been here all night, i promise it won't happen again, that was so stupid of me—"
"it's fine, don't worry about it." he said, shrugging, "i'll get going now, but make sure you take it easy and drink enough water." his eyes carefully scanned your body one last time, making sure you were really okay. he headed for the door and you followed.
"i'm really sorry." you frowned, feeling as though no amount of apologies would make it up to him.
he let out a slight chuckle, "it's okay, seriously y/n." he said before leaving. you heard the all too familiar jingle of his keys as the door closed behind him.
he'd stayed with you all night, eyes watching over you closely. ready at your side whenever you stirred in your sleep. he'd been there in the morning prepared with water and painkillers. this was never how it was, usually this was your job, taking care of the boys. it was your way of showing you cared, helping out wherever possible.
this wasn't like yeosang. at all.
————————
as soon as yeosang got home he was greeted by a very concerned san and wooyoung.
"is she okay?"
"are you tired?"
"did she wake up?"
he was bombarded by questions.
"she's okay, she fell asleep after a while and i made her take some painkillers when she woke up." yeosang said, collapsing onto the couch.
"so you really don't hate her then." wooyoung thought aloud.
"he can't, he spent the whole night looking after her!" san said, hitting wooyoung like it was obvious.
"owww," wooyoung rubbed his arm, "even she thinks you don't like her!"
"i know, she said last night. but she probably won't remember saying that." yeosang said, feeling increasingly drowsy from his lack of sleep.
"maybe you guys should like, talk things out?" san suggested, taking a seat next to him.
"maybe." yeosang said, drifting off into sleep.
you had spent the day curled up in bed, wondering how you could make it up to yeosang, and there was nothing more you wanted than to get to know him better, but what would he want? you called up san on that thought.
"hey sannie," you said, "i need your help, actually, is woo there as well?"
"oh my god she's alive!" you heard wooyoung call from beside san.
"what do you need help with?" san asked.
you paused a moment, "is yeosang there?"
"well yes, but he's asleep."
you groaned, "i feel so bad that he stayed up all night looking after me. i really wanna make it up to him but i don't know how. plus, it's not like he's that fond of me. maybe i should just thank him by staying out of his space."
"i don't think he'd like that." wooyoung interjected. "i still think he just needs time before opening up to you."
"i think its just me." you sighed, worriedly chewing on your bottom lip.
"hey! don't be like that! there's no reason to not like you." san scolded you for down talking yourself as he always does.
"agreed." wooyoung said, chiming in.
"i'm sure i'll work something out. thanks guys! enjoy the rest of your day!" you said.
"good luck!"
"bye y/n!"
————————
you had been staring at your phone for at least an hour, typing and retyping the message to yeosang. wooyoung gave you his number so that you could contact him when you'd finally worked out how to make it up to him. in the end, you decided that you would let him decide.
you drew in a sharp breath and squeezed your eyes tightly shut as you pressed send.
you: hey yeosang, i still feel really bad about the other day, i wanna know how i can make it up to you !!
yeosang: did wooyoung give you my number? T~T
you: yes he did.. i hope thats okay !
yeosang: of course yeosang: how about you make it up to me over a cup of coffee? >.<
you: that sounds great !! you: when are you free ?
yeosang: does tomorrow morning work for you ? i can pick you up ^_^
you: of course ! i'll see you tomorrow :)
yeosang sat in his room, facepalming. why was it so easy to be more open over text?
you on the other hand, felt your heart swell in a bizarre way. maybe it was the way you hadn't expected him to use such cute little emoticons. maybe it was the way that you'd be able to have a full conversation with him. whatever it was, excitement had taken over you.
————————
a knock pounded at your door and you rushed to open it.
"ready to go?" he asked, leaning against the door frame coolly.
"yes, lets go!" you said, sounding a little too excited.
the two of you made your way down the stairs and into yeosang's car. you found yourself smiling as you looked out the window.
your excitement hadn't gone unnoticed, "you seem awfully excited."
"i really wanted to make it up to you," you beamed. "it must've been boring to watch over me all night."
"i didn't mind so much." he said, shrugging.
you frowned, "you shouldn't of done it."
"and leave you passed out in the club?" he quirked an eyebrow up at you.
"well..."
"exactly." he said, parking the car outside a small cafe nearby his apartment. "come on, lets go inside."
you followed him in and took a seat across from him at a table close to the window. you both ordered coffees and resumed conversation.
"so, where were we?" you smiled, taking a sip of coffee.
"talking about how you wanted me to leave you passed out in the club." he said. you were almost convinced you saw a teasing smile pulling at his lips.
"right. i'm so sorry about that."
this time he actually chuckled, and you were taken aback. it was like the wall yeosang had surrounding himself was crumbling before your eyes.
"you need to apologise less." he laughed, bringing his coffee cup to his mouth for a sip. "half of the time we talk its just you saying sorry to me."
"i'm so—"
"hey!" the two of you broke into laughter.
his laugh was loud but warm and you couldn't help but notice the way his nose scrunched up cutely, the way his eyes looked full of stars and the way he brushed his hair out of his eyes after, revealing his beautiful birthmark. from that point on, you wanted to be the one to make him laugh every day.
he felt that familiar tug at his heart, the one he'd been feeling every moment he spent alone with you. the one he felt when he first met you. the one he couldn't make any sense of. it was as though his heart was a violin and you were the one playing it. (which would explain the tugging feeling.) but you were playing the sweetest song and he never wanted it to end.
the two of you laughed the morning away, gradually making up for what you'd missed over two years in a matter of two hours.
you'd discovered that even after getting him to open up more, he wasn't one for words. you found yourself talking his ear off while he listened intently, occasionally sharing his opinions and stories. in all his honesty, he didn't mind listening to you talk. he could've sat there all day, drinking countless cups of coffee, watching the way you bit your bottom lip whenever you paused to think or the way your eyes filled with sparkles when you talked about something that made you happy.
you insisted on paying for the infinite cups of coffee, as it was your way of making it up to him. he reluctantly agreed, but promised that he would pay if there ever was a next time, which he secretly hoped there would be. he'd finally had the chance to let his walls down. (it was actually more like you'd climbed the walls and torn them down with your bare hands.) but he was thankful for it.
he drove you back to your apartment, even after you persisted on walking home, seeing as it wasn't that far. he refused, insisting that he drive you. he even followed you up the stairs to the door of your apartment.
you turned around to face him, "you know, you're not so bad when you actually wanna talk to me."
"you know, you're not so bad when you're not drunk." he countered, his lips breaking into a playful grin.
you glared jokingly, "hey! don't make me apologise again."
"okay, okay. i won't." he said, raising his hands in defence.
you smiled, resting against the door, "alright, well, i've really enjoyed hanging out with you today. maybe we should catch up more often."
"maybe we should." he said, bearing a coy smile, "bye, y/n. i'll see you around."
————————
it was only about a week later he showed up at your work, at the end of your shift. you were pleasantly surprised to see him, and at first thought he was just someone coming to book a room.
"hello, are you looking for a r— yeosang?"
"when do you get off work?" he asked, glancing over to the clock.
"five minutes."
"i'll be waiting in the car, okay?" he said, turning on his heel and heading for the door.
on his way out, you saw as he ran into your boss, the two of them beginning conversation.
"it's good to see you've made those security changes." yeosang said as he nodded, extending his arm for a friendly handshake. "i'm very thankful."
your boss shook his hand, "and i'm thankful that you suggested them."
just over five minutes later you got into the passenger seat of yeosang's car.
"it was you who told my boss about the safety problems." you said, in near disbelief.
"hello, to you too." he joked sarcastically. "well, i would hate to think that the situation could happen again, so i just suggested some possible improvements. thats all." he shrugged like it was nothing.
"suddenly, i feel the need to make it up to you again." you smiled shyly.
"you can do that by accompanying me to the skate park." he said, motioning to his skateboard on the back seat.
"ah, so thats why you came."
"well yeah, i wanted to bring you to the skate park."
your heart swelled once again, feeling joyed that he wanted to share one of his favourite places with you. (despite him never telling you directly, you knew he loved the skate park as he spent majority of his high school time there when he wasn't studying.)
when you arrived, the sun was beginning to slip behind the horizon, causing the sky to glow a rosy pink. there were still a few kids, probably high schoolers, hanging around the park. you took a seat at a bench and waited for yeosang to come over, who was getting his skateboard out the car. you felt oddly out of place since you were still in your neat work uniform and didn't know the first thing about skateboarding.
yeosang rolled over with a grin plastered onto his face, you'd never seen him so happy, and it made you happy to see him this way. it was strange how all it took was a few cups of coffee for him to become a completely different person around you.
he didn't need to ask you to watch as your eyes were already glued to him as he dropped into the bowl, showing countless tricks and flips.
the truth was in fact that yeosang was grateful for you 'making it up to him'. he'd never been able to comprehend his feelings for you, if they were even feelings at all. he hated the confusion and decided it was easier to ignore it, and to an extent, ignore you, to make it go away. it had been working for the most part, until every time the two of you were alone together, he couldn't ignore the slight tug at his heart, that was becoming more of a pull over the last few weeks.
"you're amazing!" you cheered as he sat down next to you, out of breath.
"thanks." he smiled shyly, running a hand through his hair and out of his face. he leaned back, looking up at the sky. "do you sometimes wish you could see the stars from within the city? hongjoong and seonghwa are so lucky they can see them from their house."
you pondered a moment, thinking about the last time you actually saw stars in the sky. "i see stars in your eyes sometimes." you said, absent minded.
he felt warmth burning in his cheeks, "you do?"
"do what?" you turned to him, "did i say that out loud?" you gasped, covering your face in embarrassment. "i'm sorry, i didn't mean to say that it was just a thought and—"
"what did i say about apologising?" he laughed. "it's getting cold, right? you ready to head home?" he asked.
you smiled, "if you are."
he drove you home and said goodbye, feeling happy about spending time alone with you once again. he couldn't stop thinking about what you said and you couldn't stop feeling like a fool for saying it.
————————
the weather got colder and colder and soon it began to snow as the days of december passed. you had spent the day helping jongho move some new furniture into his apartment. it was a difficult job, but easier with the two of you, even san and wooyoung came to help. you couldn't resist wondering where yeosang was and why he didn't come, seeing as they lived in the same building. maybe he was busy, you thought.
"hey, where's yeosang?" you asked, lifting a box and placing it on the kitchen counter.
"at home, i think he's been feeling sick or something, he hardly comes out of his room lately." wooyoung shrugged, assuming it was all good.
"if he's sick i'll bring him over some food and painkillers, maybe keep him some company." you explained, not wanting yeosang to be unwell.
"i think he'd rather be left alone, to be honest." san said, giving wooyoung a side glance that you couldn't miss.
you pulled out your phone and sent yeosang a quick message.
you: are you feeling okay? san and woo said you were sick :((
he didn't respond right away and you just figured he was asleep. but as you finished helping out at jongho's house a few hours later, he still hadn't responded. when you were sitting down to eat dinner at home, he still hadn't respond. just before you were going to turn the lights out and go to bed, he still hadn't responded.
something was up. this wasn't like yeosang, not anymore. not since the two of you had been spending so much time together. maybe it was like the boys said, and he was truly very sick, but in that case, why wouldn't they let you help?
————————
days passed and you went to work as usual, repeating the same few lines, asking people if they want a room, asking them to fill in a form, then directing them to the right room. days passed and you still hadn't heard back from yeosang, you wondered if he was still sick. days passed and you began to think maybe you should go over there to see if he's okay.
but if there was one thing you'd learnt about yeosang recently, it was that he was the quieter type, and probably wouldn't appreciate you going over there to keep him company and would rather be alone. so that evening when you got off work, you didn't go visit him like you so desperately wanted to, instead, you went straight home.
you cooked and ate dinner for yourself, before picking up your phone, only to see still no messages from yeosang.
you: hey woo you: is yeosang feeling better ?
wooyoung: yeah he is
you: well then can i come visit tomorrow ?
wooyoung: i think he's busy wooyoung: sorry
you: its okay woo you: its not your fault !!
you switched your phone off and headed for the shower, trying to wash away the stress and worry for yeosang that had built up over the last few weeks. you had really grown to like him and there was still so much about him you wanted to learn, like when he learned to skateboard or how he got the small scar on the back of his hand, that you'd noticed when ever he brushes his hair out of his eyes.
two years he'd spent, not interested in holding conversation with you and two years you'd spent, wondering what you'd did so wrong. but lately, you felt like you were doing something right around him, getting him to smile and laugh, share his own stories.
you couldn't shake the feeling that maybe he still didn't like you, and had just been trying for wooyoung's sake.
or maybe he was genuinely starting to like you, but you went and fucked it up by weirding him out and telling him about his starry eyes.
or maybe he'd just had enough of you already. decided that a few weeks was enough time spent trying to change things between the two of you.
as you finished showering and changed into comfortable clothes, you glanced at the clock which read 10:56pm. you switched on the television to watch some youtube before going to bed. as you felt yourself dozing off, a faint knock sounded at your door, so quiet you almost missed it.
when you opened the door, you were shocked to see yeosang standing there, leaning against the door frame for support. he looked up at you, his normally starry eyes were dulled with tears.
you rushed forward to him, smelling the alcohol as you got closer, "yeosang are you okay? what are you doing here? i thought you were sick. are you drunk? you never drink, come inside." you gently pulled him inside, closing the door behind you. when you turned to face him, he was staring at you, tears about to spill over the brim of his eyes.
"i hate you." he breathed out, voice barely louder than a whisper. he didn't seem angry though, he looked fragile, like a glass vase balancing on the edge of a table.
you felt the urge to cry, finally hearing those three words that confirmed your biggest concern, yeosang disliking you. "yeosang, i'm so sorry. i never meant to—"
"i hate you." he said, louder this time before running a hand through his hair hastily. he let out a frustrated groan, dragging his hands down his face. "i hate the tugging feeling in my heart whenever we're alone. i hate the way you put yourself before others. i hate the way you ramble on when you're nervous. i hate the way your eyes sparkle when you laugh. i hate the way i don't drink around you because i feel the need to protect you and make sure you're safe. i hate the way i tried to ignore you for two years because i was scared and confused about my own feelings. i hate how it only took one cup of coffee with you for my walls to come crashing down!" he paced from side to side, waving his hands around crazily.
yeosang looked scared and lost, like he'd never felt this way about anyone before, and that was the truth. he didn't know how to comprehend these feelings and it terrified him.
you watched as he spiralled, seeming as though it would never stop. you weren't sure what to do, so you just listened to that swelling feeling in your heart once again, the one that had led you to develop feelings for yeosang, and you pulled him close into your arms. he clung onto you tightly, scared to let go, like if he did then he'd lose you forever. you ran your fingers through his hair briefly, trying your best to comfort him.
"i'm sorry." you repeatedly whispered to him. you'd never meant to upset him or confuse him.
yeosang let out a quiet sob into your chest, "i hate the way i've fallen in love with you." he croaked out.
he didn't hate you. never did. never will. your heart swelled completely in your chest, feeling as though it would burst through. but it couldn't be true. he's totally drunk out of his mind.
"you're not in your right mind, yeosang, you need to get home. you're drunk and talking nonsense." you embraced him tightly one more time, and you could've sworn you felt the beat of his heart through the hug. "come on," you urged, steering him towards the door, "wooyoung and san are probably worried and waiting up for you."
with much effort, you led him down the stairs of your apartment block and walked him home. the street lamps led you in the freezing city night air. you held his wrist lightly, guiding him up the stairs to his own apartment. he didn't speak a single word the whole time, instead, sniffling and wiping at his eyes. it hurt you so much to see him this broken, but you knew he wasn't saying the truth under control of the alcohol in his veins.
you knocked at his apartment door, hoping that one of the boys were still awake. luckily, they both were and quickly they flung the door open.
"y/n? yeosang?" san questioned, his eyes wide open with disbelief.
"we've been so worried about you!" wooyoung said, pulling yeosang away from you. "hang on, are you drunk?"
san had noticed his tired, tear stained eyes, "you look like you've been crying! are you okay?"
you let out a quiet sigh, knowing you didn't need to be here anymore. you gave a small wave goodbye and headed home, utterly exhausted.
and though you were so drained, you couldn't seem to fall asleep. those words yeosang said to you kept running through your mind busily.
did he mean any of it?
————————
yeosang felt bad. he felt terrible. like he wanted to vanish into thin air and float away with the breeze. though he couldn't, no, he desperately wanted to apologise to you. but he didn't know how, he wasn't good with words or expressing his feelings, and you wished he knew that was something you loved about him.
wooyoung and san tried to ask him what happened the night he drunkenly confessed to you, but he couldn't have them know that he'd been harbouring feelings for you for all this time, they'd never let him live it down. he could imagine the continuous teasing they'd give him, nudging him whenever you were together or giving him side glances after talking to you.
yeosang gave it lots of thought. he mulled it over in his head repeatedly. it was only after hours spent hidden away in his room that he decided to go back to where it all started, a text. a text that said how much he wanted to make it up to you for having to deal with him drunk, just like the one you'd sent initially.
yeosang: hey y/n, i feel really bad about the other day, i wanna know how i can make it up to you! T^T
your heart leapt a mile seeing his name appear on your phone. you grinned upon reading his message, realising it was scarily similar to the message you had first sent him.
you: hmmm you: that sounds familiar
yeosang: >.< yeosang: seriously though, how does dinner at my place tomorrow night sound? i'll cook
you: you can cook?
yeosang: there's a lot you don't know about me x_x
you: okay, i'll be there !!
————————
yeosang wasn't lying when he said he can cook. as you traipsed up the stairs of his apartment block you could smell something delicious laced in the air.
the usual swelling in your heart had instead fell to the pit of your stomach, you were feeling slightly nervous as to what would happen when you entered yeosang's apartment. you inhaled deeply before knocking at the door of his apartment.
"hey y/n, come in." yeosang greeted, holding an arm out, signalling for you to come inside.
"you must've been working hard cooking! it smells delicious." you said, feeling a sense of comfort just from the smell of food.
"yeah, lucky i sent wooyoung and san over to jongho's place, otherwise i doubt there would be any pasta to serve." he joked. "you can take a seat, i've just gotta serve up."
you sat down in front of a neatly laid table, it had somewhat surprised you how much effort yeosang had put into this dinner tonight. he placed a steamy hot plate of pasta in front of you and one where he would sit.
"so." he began.
"so." you copied, teasingly.
"i guess, i really just wanted to say i'm sorry for how i behaved the other night when i was drunk. you shouldn't of had to deal with that." he frowned, poking at his dinner.
you furrowed your brows, "it's seriously fine yeosang." you took a bite of pasta, "i was just surprised to see you drunk, since you never drink."
he chuckled, bringing a hand up to cover his mouth, "actually, i do. i just never drink when you're there."
"really? why?" you questioned, eating another mouthful of pasta.
"because..." he paused. "no, it sounds dumb out loud."
"it's okay, you don't have to explain yourself." you smiled warmly, "but that does remind me to ask... do you remember anything you said to me while you were drunk?" you leant forward, genuinely curious.
he sighed, "i remember.. enough."
"you don't really hate me, right?" you asked, playing with the food on your plate.
"of course not! that's why i invited you here tonight. to show you that i don't, and to make it up to you." he had to refrain from reaching across to hold your hand, just to show how much he cared that little bit more.
you nodded, "well, thats good. i was kinda worried that we'd gone back to square one."
comfort settled within you. it was relieving to know you weren't hated by the one person whose love you wanted most. a tiny thought crept into your mind, maybe, just maybe, now would be the right time to tell him about your blossoming feelings for him. or would that confuse him more? now you were the one feeling conflicted.
"are you finished eating?" he asked, reaching for your empty plate.
"yes, thank you! it was delicious. you're a good cook, y'know."
"ah, thanks y/n." he turned away to hide the blush appearing on his cheeks.
"would you like me to do the dishes? since you cooked." you offered, standing up. but he quickly opposed.
"don't be ridiculous." he shooed you back to your seat. "can i get you a coffee? water? wine?"
"a coffee sounds good, i think you and i have had too many drunken situations lately." you laughed.
yeosang pulled out two mugs and put the kettle on. he felt your eyes carefully watching him. once again, he hated the feeling that was pulling at his heart. the way you could say nothing, yet he felt everything.
"can i tell you something?" you asked, voice now quieter and more hesitant.
"sure, what is it?" he said, placing a warm cup of coffee in front of you.
you took a sip, humming in delight. it was exactly the way you liked it. when the two of you went out for coffee, he had unintentionally remembered just the way you like it.
"well," you began cautiously, in case you brought this situation into flames again. "i just... i always wondered why you didn't like me. if i was doing something wrong, if i said something once that really upset you. and then after we started spending time together, i finally felt like i was doing the right thing." you groaned, frustrated with yourself for not getting to the point quicker. "what i'm trying to say is that i have feelings for you. it's okay if you don't feel the same way. i wouldn't expect you to, i just thought you should know—"
yeosang basically choked on his coffee, eyes widening in shock. "it's okay, y/n! in case you hadn't noticed, i'm crazy about you."
you had continued to ramble nervously before hearing what he said.
"wait. you are?"
"basically ever since you said that thing about stars in my eyes, yes."
you cringed, remembering how you had said that so absent minded. "yeah, sorry about that."
"it's okay, it was cute. and what did i say about apologising?"
you shook your head and smiled, "i know."
————————
ever since the two of you confessed to each other, you had been almost inseparable, except of course when you had work. but he dropped you home most nights, even though you insisted it was okay and that you could walk. he came over every weekend just to spend time with you, even if the two of you just sat and talked, enjoying each other's company. you'd been dating for a few weeks now, but kept it undercover, not wanting to suffer the incessant questioning that would come if you told your friends.
it didn't go unnoticed either, wooyoung and san were constantly nagging yeosang about why the two of you spent so much time together, and each time he just shrugged it off.
christmas was just around the corner, so you were spending the evening at seonghwa's and hongjoong's house, who of course, were throwing an unnecessarily large house party to celebrate.
you were sat between a very drunk yunho and mingi, who were trying to talk to an also very drunk jongho. you eyed your boyfriend from across the room, as if asking for a way out and he just laughed at the situation you were stuck in.
after at least ten minutes more of having your ear talked off, yeosang came to pull you away to the dance floor.
"care to dance?" he asked, extending his hand to you.
you immediately jumped up, latching onto his hand, "i would love to!"
he chuckled, pulling you close to his side and leading you to the makeshift dance floor that seonghwa and hongjoong created.
the two of you laughed at the boys' reaction. they were completely shocked to see the two of you so close together and yeosang being friendly.
he twirled you around a few times with the music, before settling his arms around your waist. he brought you near to him as you placed your arms behind his neck. you swayed back and forth, engulfed in your own little bubble of comfort in each other's arms, completely out of time with the loud thumping music that blared around you.
you felt content, and yeosang no longer felt confused. he found his home in your arms and his happiness.
you reached up to place your lips on his, capturing the moment surrounding you. yeosang melted into the kiss, discovering that your lips were soft and sweet against his, just as he had imagined, which caused his knees to feel weak and his heart to skip more than just one beat. he never wanted to let you go, he wanted to compensate for every second that he didn't spend with you since the two of you met.
he leaned forward and whispered softly, just so you could hear above all the music and singing, "lets stay like this forever."

A brief rest
[Shameless smut]
There was a time and a place for everything. One of many things Jaune’s sisters had told him as he was growing. He never really understood what they meant, but he did know one thing as he walked down the halls of the Schnee Manor; his time and place wasn’t with Nora and Ren right now. Poor boy felt the tension and immediately hightailed out. Three is a crowd after all, another lesson taught to him.
“I hope those two work things out.” He thought, not paying attention as he unexpectedly got poked in the side. Jaune nearly jumped out of his skin until he realized it had been Weiss who had tried getting his attention.
The petite girl smiled at his obliviousness. She had grown super fond of it in recent days. “How’s Ren and Nora?”
“Oh you know, tense. But they seemed to be clearing the air so that’s good. I think they’ll be okay.”
The good news brought ease to Weiss. “Good, seeing those two arguing feels like it’s against the natural order of things. Kinda like with Yang and Ruby?”
“Oh yeah, how is the discussion going?”
“We’re...taking a short break. Everyone needs a moment to just, let things sink in. It’s been hard on Ruby lately.”
“Yeah, I bet.” Jaune sighed.
Weiss watched him slide is fingers through his hair as he tried to un-tense his body. “Looks like Ruby isn’t the only one who needs a moment.” A warmth can to Weiss’s face. Her gaze began to focus on her feet while her fingers rubbed the fabric of her skirt. “You know...we have like twenty minutes or so; and everyone else is doing their own thing.” Weiss looked up at him, more than a little flustered.
Jaune blushed back. “Tempting offer, but maybe we should hold-”
“I know it’s risky, and they might find out about us.” Weiss said, cutting him off. “Still...I...I just really missed you when you were gone okay?” She blurted out, her voice letting out a quiet yell of embarrassment. Their eyes locked in flustered tension. Weiss could feel her chest start to pound. “My room is...just down this all. Just saying.” She added.
What felt like an eternity but was actually several seconds was Jaune trying to wrestle with his girlfriend’s honesty; before he took her by the hand and was lead down the hall to the room in no time at all. Jaune walked in and heard the door close. Before he can even say anything, Weiss had jumped up into his arms and brought his face down into a deep and intense kiss. The young man couldn’t help but groan from the way the Snow Angel’s tongue enchanted his into being ensnared.
Weiss released him from her lip lock. “I’d kiss longer but we’re on a tight schedule here. Have me however.” She gasped, shocked by her own brashness. Weiss held on tightly as Jaune spun around and landed on the bed with his body on top of her. His teeth gently sunk into her pale neck, earning him more gasps while his hands traced up her legs to her thighs; stopping right at her entrance where he pulled the huntress’s panties to the side. He didn’t waste a second entering his middle finger in, curling it slightly to rub against the the roof of her pussy.
“Mmmmm~!” Weiss’s legs begin to fidget from Jaune’s advances. Her own hips began to betray her as they started rocking in rhythm with the finger thrusting into her. “J-Jaune~” Weiss wrapped her arms aground his back. “I know I said tight schedule, but- ah~ my panties. T-take them off...” She requested. Jaune thankfully listened, removing his finger and himself from on top of her, giving Weiss a moment to raise her hips and slide her white lace off onto one leg.
Jaune thought it best to unbuckle his own pants while she got ready “That’s pretty fancy given the situation.” He quipped.
“Well I didn’t know doomsday was gonna hit so soon.” Weiss sat up to help him out. Her hands lifted his shirt enough to see his lower stomach. A coy smile spread on her face as she started kissing bellow his navel while her hands helped his pull his pants down along with his boxers.
“Weiss...” He stuttered as he felt her lips sink lower.”
“Shhh, can’t have you go in dry now can we?” Weiss’s face turned a deep red as she wrapped her lips around Jaune’s hardening length, quivering at the way the weight and size began filling her mouth. His overwhelming scent didn’t help regain any further composure. It only made her head a bit light as she started to bob up and down slowly. This part was still extremely new for her and Weiss would be lying if she said this part didn’t always make her anxious, but it also...excited her. Weiss felt the weight of Jaune’s hand rest on her head gently as she took in half of the six inch phallus before having to go back up. It annoyed her that the entire thing was too threatening, but took pride in the symphony of moans she took from Jaune by swirling her tongue to taste all she could.
“W-Weiss! That’s...mmgh, that’s enough.” His mouth said one thing but his hands said another, gripping her hair for a bit more control. “Shit....aahh~ don’t make me cum yet. Not without you.”
Weiss felt her heart flutter. “Geez he can say embarrassing stuff like that even now!?” Her lips released him not a moment too see. Weiss watched his length throb intently. She had to fight the urge to push him over the edge right here and now. Jaune usually had a longer fuse than this from their limited experience, but they’ve been incredibly busy these last couple days. It was a safe bet to assume he never got a private moment of rest in all that time. Neither did she for that matter. Weiss didn’t want to admit but she ached for him badly. In more ways than one.
“I know I said have me however, but can I ride you?” She said, hesitant for a moment. The fluttering in her heart didn’t want to stop. Jaune took hold of her skirt and hiked it up to stomach. The sudden hit of cold air made Weiss yelp before moving her legs to each side of him so he can lift her up and reposition himself for her sit comfortably. Well, as comfortably as someone could be while riding.
“Think they’ll hear the bed rock?” Jaune said, leaning against the headrest.
“Wouldn’t care if they did. It’s just us right now.” Weiss pulled him into another feverish kiss. More feverish than the last. Any separation between their lips was hungrily sealed again and again. The frenzy of it all threatened to make Weiss lose sight of the objective. It was a good thing Jaune wasn’t so easily swept in, taking hold to steady her hips with one hand as he sat her down on his eager length. Weiss whimpered in pleasure from the sudden shock of being filled up. She put her arms over his shoulders to grip the headrest while she buried her face in the crook of his neck.
“Ahh! Aaahhh! Mmmphh~” The calm and poise Weiss normally showed had been completely shattered with each pant she let out from spearing herself onto Jaune. “Gods, you feel so good~” her hips were on auto pilot. It didn’t feel like there was a place Jaune wasn’t rubbing against. Her ability to try and keep herself together only dwindled further as Jaune nipped at her ear. “Mmmmm~!!!”
Jaune could barely stand being inside of her. Every sway of her hips only invited a warm and now dripping pussy to tighten around him like a vice. “Ahh! Fuck you’re tight~ Weiss, what’s gotten into you!?” He asked between grunts.
“I...mmmph I just...” Her arms squeezed him even harder as she did her best to all but slam her hips into him, making her sweat a little. “I’m... really glad you’re safe okay!? I was worried about you.” She confessed.
Jaune could no longer sit still. Not after hearing that. “I’m glad you’re safe too.” He lustfully whispered.
Weiss felt his hands move from her waist, taking hold of her ass firmly. “Jaune? What are-” the young man slightly lifted her up with ease to the point Weiss felt his dick began exciting, before slamming her back down on it to fill her body at once. Weiss could only gasp initially until Jaune repeated the movement again and again until the pleasure hit her. “AAAAH! F- AAH! AAAAAH!”
“Sssshhh, bite down or they’ll hear.” He said, refusing to stop.
Weiss bit down on his shoulder not caring how hard she did it. Each time she was slammed down, Weiss’s voice escaped as grunts and strained breathes. The use of her hips was souly on him now as he raged inside body. Eventually her grunts turned to whimpers as he kept pumping into her, making the room echo with her soaked sex.
“S..sso...mmmph! Deeeep~” Weiss felt like she was soaring. Her own nails started to dig into the headrest as she desperately tried hanging on to this high. “Jaune~ It’s....” she had given up speaking.
Jaune whispered with voice drowned in a husky yearning, “Just let me fuck you a little longer okay?”
“....Kay....” she whispered. Never had Weiss heard that voice, or was shown this much intensity. She wasn’t sure what flipped this switch in Jaune but she hopped it wouldn’t be the last time. Her body continued to take her boyfriend’s dick. At this point, cumming together had long since been ruined. Weiss wasn’t sure if she was on her second or third wave. Hell, it might even be fourth. All she knew was another one was rising and Jaune was still fucking her intensely. To think she almost let him top made Weiss believe she dodged a bullet. This was already approaching too much.
“Thank goodness I’m not any smaller and he isn’t any bigger.”
“Weiss...where do you want it?” Jaune grunted, “I’m close!”
If wasn’t for the fact danger could arrive soon and all hands needed to be deck, Weiss could’ve easily entertained letting him give it to her inside without question. However, they had things they needed to do.
“Mouth~” Weiss shut her eyes tightly. Every muscle in her body tensed violently as another orgasm hit her. The petite girl still had enough sense to remove her teeth from his shoulder and bit down on his hoodie, muffling her scream as best she could, which wasn’t much.
Jaune bit down on his lip, pushing through Weiss’s grip on him to allow her to ride her wave as long she could before having to finally lift her off and laying her beside him. “Weiss, I’m- ah!” The girl may have been flushed and dazed, but that’s been this entire experience. Weiss didn’t miss a beat in taking Jaune back into her mouth, letting him cum in a place that wouldn’t leave any stains or potentially cause future problems.
The potent taste wasn’t anything to write home about, yet Weiss found herself moaning and doing her best to take every last drop. He had to give, blushing all the while. How dangerous. She could get used to this. Finally she swallowed everything and even clean around the tip before laying limply beside Jaune. Her head turned towards a ticking clock in the room.
“Eleven minutes. That means we have four or five more to rest. Hehehe, pretty good time.” Weiss put her hand on her forehead and let her body treasure the rest time.”
Jaune couldn’t help but watch his flushed girlfriend catch her breath. He gently lifted his hand to wipe displaced strands of hair out of face and admire her eyes. Even when tired, Weiss remained beautiful. “Need me to get you a water, or perfume?”
“I’ll get those in a moment. Thank you though.” She rolled over to lay her head on him. “Hmmm you’re warm; also more unpredictable than I expected. What got into you back there? Not that I’m complaining.”
“You said you worried about me.” He said. Jaune looked to see Weiss look at with such genuine kindness that his own words made him blush and look away. “It...really made me happy to hear that. If that makes any sense.”
Perhaps their relationship was still sinking in for him emotionally? That’s what Weiss assumed anyways. “I get it.” She said smiling. Weiss turned his head back towards her. “I feel the same. I know things are still pretty new, but I really like us, you.” She blushed, “I really like you.” The flutter in her heart finally started calm down like the rest of her body. Weiss finally felt at ease. That was until Jaune pressed his lips to her again. Getting red again, Weiss broke the kiss. “Hey!”
“Huh? What’s wrong?”
“You can’t just do that right now? My...I just had to sw...you know, you.” She said flustered. “Aren’t you grossed out by that?”
Jaune thought about it for a second before shrugging. “Eh, it’s not like you just had it still sitting on your tongue. Besides I like kissing. Even if it after you swallow me.”
“........” Weiss hid her fired red face by pressing it against him.
“Weiss?”
She dared not say anything. “Idiot, he’s gonna ruin me completely at this rate. Saying things like that, is too much!” Weiss’s heart began fluttering once again.

Had some thots c: wanted to share
Izuku is in a unfulfilling marriage. His husband is waaay too work obsessed and their intimate life? It's either non existent or is not enough to make him feel satisfied. He should have been happy. It is not like his husband didn't love him,or that he didn't have any love for him back,or that they had money issues... but it was all really fucking boring. That,until Izuku by accident bumps into his childhood friend and former crush: Katsuki. They began talking,a lot. Texting almost everyday. Sometimes meeting up for coffee. His husband doesn't know any of this. He learns about Katsuki's job and catches up to him on their families and nerdy hobbies. Izuku's conscience is heavy with guilt for how he finds himself falling for Katsuki just like he did through their childhood to high school to when they went their separate ways,and how his husband has no idea about it. And if that wasn't enough? Katsuki was his husband's boss. That was awkward.
Izuku tried to end things. He really did. It hurt,but he couldn't keep hiding from his husband any longer... even if his and Katsuki's feelings were mutual. But that quickly proved to be useless when one night, his husband stayed on work later than usual,and someone knocked on the door. His heart almost pulled out of his chest when he saw Katsuki at his door.
There was 0 resistance. Katsuki and him had a brief screaming match with their feelings laid all out and when things became unbearable he took Izuku. Right then and there. It was rough. It was sweet. It was everthing Izuku was craving. They couldn't even care if Izuku's husband came in. But that sure was annoying when he did...
aaaah, so, this is a very long idea thought !! i would have loved to write a small fanfic snippet, but this deserves a whole multi-chapter !!
so instead, here’s some more thots ;)
- Bakugou works in a hero agency/work office setting, his boss being Midoriya’s husband, but he has no idea. He just finds the guy rather boring & shit, with demanding better times & numbers. And, if this is a No Quirk universe, then it’s a finance records office. Regardless, it’s a job that Bakugou excels in, but he doesn’t care about his boss.
- He knows the boss has a husband, from the whispers around the work place. But, he’s just more surprised the guy’s married. A boring, shit man probably with a boring shit spouse.
- Midoriya comes back into his life when he walks into the office, hoping to surprise his husband with a coffee run. Alas, he bumps into Bakugou instead, with his husband in a meeting.
- Bakugou initially feels uncomfortable, as well as Midoriya. An awkward air laid thick; they hadn’t kept in contact for years, despite being childhood friends. Though, for Midoriya, it’s even more awkward, having to face his very first crush. Something he always felt guilty about, while friends.
- Fortunately, they start seeing each other more often, after the first bump. Midoriya often visits the office, coffee and lunches for his husband. And, he seems to always appear during Bakugou’s lunch breaks. They start with small talk, but it slowly morphs into fun conversation.
- Bakugou believes Midoriya is an errand boy of sorts for his boss, and never thinks to ask about their relationship. He just assumes they were two good friends, who Midoriya willingly helps out. And, whenever Bakugou shits on his boss, complaining, he brushes off Midoriya’s silence to his refusal to bully anyone.
- In reality, on Midoriya’s side, things get a little complicated. He feels he should mention he’s married, taken, & obviously the husband of the boss. But, each time he’s with Bakugou, the thought flies out; his head filled with only their conversations. And, right when the time is right, Midoriya chickens out, unable to admit his truth.
- At first, when he takes off his wedding band to meet Bakugou, it feels foreign, weird. He feels terrible when he comes home, hurriedly rushing to put it back on. But, after more and more times he meets Bakugou, the more times he takes it off. And each time, it slowly feels better.
- However, his friends worry that he shouldn’t continue his relations with Bakugou. They mention cheating, and Midoriya denies it. He’s not cheating. Right?
- Bakugou’s friends insist that he’s totally crushing hard on Midoriya; they keep messaging each other every day, and they are now going out together, outside the workplace. Bakugou refuses at first, simply saying it’s all just catching up. Catching up on the years. Not catching feelings.
- Yet, they both do.
- In his wilted, slowly toxic relationship with his dismissive husband, Midoriya relies on Bakugou’s shoulders. He listens all Midoriya’s vents, rants, and tears of feeling unwanted, and always offers the emotional support he has yearned from his husband. Interlaced with his usual curses & vulgar language, Bakugou speaks sense to him, succeeding in making Midoriya feel appreciated.
- And, in his completely dead love life, late night hookups littering it, Bakugou finds himself deeply caring for Midoriya. More than just a one night stand; Bakugou could see Midoriya as something more. His gentle comfort he offers, his bright aura that fills his heart, and the kind soul he continues to give to Bakugou, leaves him falling.
- Bakugou does try to insinuate multiple date proposals, feeling confident each time. It feels reciprocated. It feels genuine. As if, maybe, perhaps, Midoriya likes him. But, he’s gently turned down, with Midoriya using a fake busy day to excuse himself, every time.
- It’s then that Midoriya realizes that none of this is okay. He has a husband; someone who he promised to be with till the end of his days. And, as much as he wanted Bakugou, the man was nothing more than a temptation. Right?
- His husband finds out of all the phone calls and meet ups his employee has done with Midoriya. After his confrontation, he listens to Midoriya’s tearful confession, admitting to his emotional cheating.
- However, his husband gives him an out; if it didn’t mean anything, he will forgive Midoriya. If it did, Midoriya will leave, tonight.
- Bakugou meant everything to Midoriya. He was more than anything his husband ever amounted in their marriage. He was the man that Midoriya would want to see the rest of his life with.
- Midoriya lies. In self doubt & fear of being on his own, the divorce process overwhelming him and the reactions of his family and friends hearing about it all, he sticks with his husband.
- Besides, his entire life was surrounded, built around his husband. Leaving his husband meant losing his house, his car, his worth in society, his source of affection and love. It was as if leaving his husband meant losing everything.
- He is told to never speak to Bakugou again; his husband wants to fire him, but Midoriya begs for Bakugou to be unharmed. It had nothing to do with work, and so it would simply be too cruel. Hence, his promise to stay away.
- After dead silence from Midoriya, Bakugou finds out from his coworkers that Midoriya was the husband of his boss. It feels like an out of body experience, now with everything making sense. The constant meet ups at the office building. The date rejections. Midoriya was a married man. Who simply could never be Bakugou’s. He had to give up.
- But then, everything becomes infuriating. As the days go by, Bakugou grows upset; Midoriya deserves better. All the tears, the rants, and the self loathing was all caused by his neglectful, boring ass husband, who didn’t deserve someone like Midoriya. He knew he could be better. No, he is better.
- The bang at Midoriya’s door startles him, and his gut drops. He thinks his husband has come home mad, but instead it’s Bakugou, standing there. His heart lunges, wanting to hug him right there.
- Midoriya hurries to try to close the door instead, and quickly Bakugou juts his foot into the doorway. He steps into the apartment, furious. And, it’s there that he demands Midoriya to be honest.
- Honest? Midoriya’s confused.
- If he meant nothing, Bakugou would walk away; a similar ultimatum his own husband had given him. But, this time, Bakugou adds that if he does mean anything, even a sliver amount, Midoriya needs to take that chance, and walk out with him.
- They start yelling. Midoriya insists that he needs to stay in his marriage. Bakugou calls it lifeless and bullshit. Midoriya states that his husband is a good man, that doesn’t deserve a cheating man. Bakugou demands that it’s Midoriya that’s the good man, who’s worth more than his shit husband could even imagine. Midoriya swears that there is nothing he can do. Bakugou says there is something; he can walk out with him, right here, right now.
- Finally, with their heated argument reaching its highest, Midoriya confesses tearfully that it’s all so hard; wanting Bakugou, ever since he was little, only to be married and unable to explore his feelings, now.
- That’s when Bakugou takes his shaking hands, securely and firmly, and admits that while he can’t outmatch Midoriya’s lifetime crush on him, he admits he’s falling for Midoriya. And, these feeling of his are worth fighting for him. He knows he should leave, let Midoriya continue to be married peacefully. But, he can’t let go, without putting all of his efforts out there.
- Unless Midoriya was to reject him now, completely sure, Bakugou swears to continue fighting for Midoriya.
- Those words, promising absolute dedication to Midoriya and their potential, leaves Midoriya in tears. He’s been with his husband for years, and he has yet to feel worth fighting for.
- It had always felt his husband simply ignored his needs, only ever recognizing them if they were to his benefit. It was always as if his husband was just so certain Midoriya could never leave him, and hence, never felt a need to impress, surprise, or even cherish him.
- Finally, Midoriya pulls Bakugou into a hug, whispering if that’s truly how he feels. Bakugou hugs back, swearing that it was his honest truth. He wouldn’t make shit up, especially not to Deku.
- Midoriya tells him to please take care of him. Bakugou promises.
- With his husband coming home from his late night shift, he abruptly walks in on their embrace, furious. He demands Bakugou to get out, or else the police would arrive.
- Bakugou leaves, but not without Midoriya. His husband holds him back, demanding that he stays. Midoriya refuses, finally taking off his wedding band for the last time. He confesses that Bakugou did mean everything, and it was his own fears that forced him to stay.
- But now, he’s brave, and willing face the world without him. He’s brave, if Kacchan was right there with him.

Prompt: Anthony being a great father to Hyacinth. Literally any scenario will do I just really want some daddy Anthony.
thank you for sending this in! i’m always eager to spread the anthony bridgerton DILF agenda ♥️
(ao3)
Anthony first heard a wail.
It was a shrill, tinny sound — not exactly one he’d never heard before, but certainly the kind that raised alarm in the middle of a bright, sunny day in the country. The sort of day that made painters rush out with their canvases and smattered the hands of poets with ink. It was such a beautiful day, in fact, that most of his siblings had all filtered out to enjoy it. He had chosen to sit back and watch them as they enjoyed the sun.
At the age of twenty five, Anthony had settled into as peaceful an existence as was possible for a man like him — as head of the family, its finances, and everyone’s general wellbeing, it wasn’t necessarily easy, but he was managing. Colin was set to start university soon, Benedict had recently finished, and Daphne wasn’t set to debut until the following season. The lull in activity gave Anthony enough momentary peace that it finally felt as though he could take one long, deep breath.
And in truth, he was enjoying the country and the time spent with his family. Atypical as it may have been, he would always be grateful for the special bond they all shared with each other. Things were certainly never dull when they were all together.
Case in point: the wailing coming from a six-year old Hyacinth Bridgerton.
Anthony sat up the moment he heard it, his eyes narrowing to locate the source of the sound. Gregory was only eight, and just as incorrigible as the rest of the boys had been at his age. Him and Hyacinth got on just as often as they fought — which meant, at any given moment, either of them might have been the one crying.
Violet let out a resigned sigh, looking up at the scenery ahead of them. “Anthony, would you…?”
Anthony grimaced, rising from his seat and stalking across the field. Hyacinth’s sobs had only grown louder in the few moments it took for him to walk over, Gregory’s eyes wide and filled with fear as he approached.
“I— I promise I didn’t—”
“He PUSHED me!” Hyacinth shouted through her tears as she held onto her knee, her face red and splotchy with the effort. “He MEANT to!”
“I didn’t!”
“He DID!”
“Both of you, settle. Down. Now,” Anthony said, putting on his most authoritative voice. This still came awkwardly to him — the discipline and strong words, especially when they were both so young. But it was just another part of the role he’d been given, the one he’d never quite asked for but had to bear all the same. He leaned down to meet her eyes. “Are you hurt, Hyacinth?”
She was still sobbing loudly — a sound that tugged viciously at his heart, even if his youngest sister did have a flair for the dramatic — as she opened up her palms to reveal a particularly bloody knee.
Anthony winced, hissing as he inspected it closely. Gregory began to cry at the sight of it. “I promise I didn’t mean to… I didn’t see the rocks, and—”
The wound was not disastrous, but bad enough that Anthony could confirm Hyacinth’s tears were not, in fact, exaggerated. Anthony sighed. Discipline would have to come later. “Go to mother, Gregory,” he said. “Now. I will deal with you later.”
Gregory did as told, walking back towards their mother with his head hung low as Anthony picked Hyacinth up. Her arms came around his neck while her legs swung around his chest. She wasn’t very tiny anymore, all long arms and pointy elbows — she was going to be tall, he could already tell — but he was able to lift her with ease. As they walked, her arms tightened around him as she continued to cry into his shoulder.
“Shhh,” he tried to console her, the walk from the field to the nursery inside feeling longer than it had ever been before. “You’re okay. It’ll be alright.”
Once they were inside, Anthony didn’t bother to locate the nursemaid — Hyacinth was clearly in distress, and that seemed like a waste of time when he was perfectly able. He sat her down on one of the dressers and grabbed a washcloth.
“Does it hurt badly?” he asked, his voice low as he tried to soothe her. This was a trick he’d learned with Eloise, who’d always gotten into more trouble than it seemed a young girl should have been able to. If he spoke softly enough, nearly in a whisper, it was often enough to get them to relax.
Hyacinth sniffed, using her hands to wipe at her face. She had stopped crying, but her cheeks — and Anthony’s shoulder — remained damp. “Mmmmhmm.”
Anthony dabbed at her knee with the washcloth, clearing away most of the blood while Hyacinth slowly caught her breath. The scrape was still fairly bad, but it would likely heal by the following day.
“Here we go,” Anthony said, taking the ointment from the nursery cabinet and dabbing it around the skin of Hyacinth’s knee. Once that was done, he took the bandage and wrapped it twice — enough to cover it fully without limiting her mobility. “Does that feel better?”
Hyacinth nodded, her frown deepening. “I hate Gregory. He’s mean and rude and I hate him.”
Anthony smiled, reaching up to wipe away some of the last errant tears on her cheeks. “No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do.”
“No,” Anthony stood up, putting his hands on his waist. “You don’t. He made a mistake — for which he will apologize to you and see consequences — and then you will go back to loving each other and being the best of siblings. That is the way things are, and the way they will always be. That’s what family is. Alright?”
Hyacinth rolled her eyes, unconvinced, and Anthony was immediately provided with a glimpse into what the future held in store for him when it came to the youngest Bridgerton. He would have to really enjoy the relative calm while he had it.
He whisked her off of the table unexpectedly, careful not to hurt her knee, eliciting a girlish squeal. “Did you just roll your eyes at me? That is quite undignified, Miss Hyacinth. Even for a young lady of six.”
“No, I didn’t!”
“Oh, I believe you did,” he tsked, smiling. Reaching under her chin, Anthony tickled her until she was giggling, her hands reaching out in a futile attempt to stop him between fits of laughter. “Aaaah! — Anthony — please!”
Anthony found himself laughing along as Hyacinth tried to retaliate, sticking her hands under his arms and neck. Despite her mighty attempts, the girl was still only six, and thus Anthony found himself the indisputable winner of the battle as their laughter slowly settled into small giggles, stopping only once it was clear that any unhappiness was well and truly behind her.
Once she’d caught her breath, Hyacinth leaned into Anthony, her head tucked into his shoulder the way she’d often done as a baby. Emotion clogged in Anthony’s throat at that realization — he could hardly believe she was already six. He supposed he would always see her as the cooing infant she’d once been.
Her arrival had been the first moment of happiness Anthony had felt after losing his father, overshadowed only by the realization that she would never know him. That, in turn, inspired a fervent desire to try and fill the gap, however clumsily.
“Are you feeling better now?” he murmured, smiling when she nodded and tightened her grip on him again, her eyes slowly closing. All the excitement seemed to have sapped her of her energy.
Anthony took a quick turn about the room, drifting towards the window and watching his family outside as he carried her. As difficult as it was — dealing with his siblings, worrying relentlessly over their wellbeing, lending an ear for listening or a shoulder for crying whenever they needed it — it was satisfying, too. Especially in moments like this.
He would have to find her nursemaid now, and then have a few choice words with Gregory about being careful with his younger sister, and then after that he would likely have to go and deal with some other issue that arose, whether it was with his mother, or his sisters, or his brothers.
It seemed to never end, the laundry list of problems with which he was presented — everyone looked to him for guidance, and Anthony didn’t have anywhere else to look to anymore. He would have to find the answers within himself, the way he’d been doing for seven years now.
He would never be their father — that much went without saying — but that didn’t mean he couldn’t try to fill the hole he’d left behind for them.
When he turned back towards Hyacinth, she was asleep, her breaths even. Anthony smiled to himself, grateful to see her calm and peaceful for once, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before lowering her onto the bed and closing the curtains.
He could only hope he was doing a good enough job of it all.

At Osamu’s wedding, no one can really figure out why Atsumu is being so distant. It’s his brother’s big day! He should be celebrating, living it up, having a great time! Instead, he keeps mostly to himself before the ceremony, only returning to the group to calm ‘Samu down when he has a bit of a freak out because a few more people than expected showed up and they aren’t sure if they’ll have enough food for everyone (they manage just fine, but not without a lot of grumbling). The rest of the time before the wedding starts, ‘Tsumu stays away as much as possible going over his best man speech. During the ceremony, he manages to keep up a happy air because he is happy, he is. He’s just also feeling a little off.
During the reception, Atsumu gives an absolutely stunning speech. It has the crowd in tears and laughter, Osamu’s partner looks like they might start crying happy tears, and Osamu himself looks really touched at the entire thing. He had thought Atsumu was opposed to the entire wedding because of how he was acting earlier, but now he can see that Atsumu is happy for them, sincerely, genuinely, so happy for them. There’s only one line at the very end, something about Osamu moving on, that strikes a bit of a cord for the people that really know Atsumu, but it’s just vague enough that no one else can tell if it’s a throw-away line or if it has his entire heart on display. Osamu gives him a strange look, like he can tell what it really meant, but he says nothing.
After his speech, Atsumu spends a bit of his time getting congratulated and praised for his speech by the wedding party, and then by the crowd as he slowly makes his way out to a secluded corner outside. He stares at the moon and the stars for a few minutes before his walls finally crumble. He doesn’t cry, but he looks like he’s about to at any given second, eyes shining with unshed tears, cheeks red, trembling lips, deep, uneven breaths leaving his mouth.
It hadn’t hit him until earlier that morning that Osamu getting married meant a lot of things for the both of them. It meant ‘Samu was starting a new life. It meant ‘Tsumu had a new sibling-in-law. It meant they had a bigger family now... but it also meant that they were moving on. From the past, from each other. He’d gotten the same feeling when his brother had decided to stop playing volleyball all those years ago. Loneliness in a way he hadn’t felt in a long time. It had taken him months after finding out for Atsumu to realize that just because they were apart didn’t mean that they were alone. They were still twins and they could still interact and clown each other and be just as close as they had been all their lives. They could still depend on each other even if they weren’t following the same path and around each other all the time. But this... this feels different. Osamu has someone new to depend on, now. Atsumu wouldn’t be his only crutch anymore. He’d realized that he never actually was Osamu’s only crutch, but Osamu was definitely his, and he wasn’t sure if he was ready to lose that. But he wouldn’t say any of that out loud. He wasn’t that selfish.
Atsumu nearly shits himself when he realizes that Osamu has wandered out and is now standing beside him, eyes directed at the sky, knowing that Atsumu would hate to be seen like this. So he doesn’t look. Instead, he just stands there, a plate of food in one hand and a drink in the other. They don’t exchange any words; they just wait for Atsumu’s breathing to even out. Then, Osamu hands him the food and drink and sits next to him, still looking at the stars. Atsumu tries to urge him to go back inside, he’s the man of the hour after all, but Osamu just shrugs. It’s simple, and so Osamu, but it’s just enough that Atsumu knows what he means. He cries then, eating his food in hopes of smothering the sound, but Osamu doesn’t mind.
It looks like his crutch is sticking around longer than he thought.
— from elle ! okay anon, just...wow. i'm literally breathless just from reading this. the way you put emotion into words...just nothing short of amazing. and i can totally see it happening too which i guess makes it all the more heartbreaking? aaaah idk this just—- i love your take on their relationship so much. picking up where you left off for my quick little addition, all under the cut, and i focused it a bit more on samu since yours placed an emphasis on tsumu. and also bec you captured tsumu so perfectly that i don’t think i can add anything more hahaha thank you so so much for this anon and I hope you're having a wonderful day. <3

the loud music that played throughout the reception hall had been reduced to a dull thud, a distant melody that rung in osamu’s ears as his brother scarfed down the plate of food he had brought him. it started out as a single tear, that developed into two, and seconds later an entire stream had been running down atsumu’s face.
osamu didn’t know what he had been expecting when he wandered out into the cold night air, essentially throwing his spouse out all alone into the pushy aunts and uncles, all the relatives who wanted nothing more than to converse with them alone for just a few minutes.
“ 'm needed elsewhere.” he had explained, hoping that his partner would understand where he was coming from, why he had to step out for just a few minutes.
and lucky enough, his spouse did. they give him an encouraging smile, gaze scanning around the reception area for any sign of their new brother in law, only to be met with nothing. “go ahead, i'll hold things down for now.”
osamu watched as his brother practically demolish the plate of food, gulping down the drink alongside it in just a few minutes. it’s silent, probably the most silent things have been between them, save for atsumu’s occasional sniffles or the yelling from the reception. a more upbeat song had begun playing, the kind that raised one’s heartbeat and made it almost impossible not to move to the beat.
“you’re missin’ out on all the fun.” atsumu mumbled, wiping the corner of his lips with the sleeve of his shirt.
osamu’s nose crinkled at the sight, handing atsumu a tissue from his pocket, “i know, but it’s a nice time to be out, isn’t it?”
a cold breeze blew past the two of them, threading in between their hair, through the fabric of their button-ups, sending chills down their spines. he took a deep inhale, closing his eyes in an attempt to steady the beating of his heart. atsumu followed suit, trying to get himself to relax a bit more. osamu’s exhale was much shakier than atsumu’s had been.
“things are different now, aren’t they?”
there was no need to answer the question, not with both of them having known the answer for quite some time now. things had been changing for years, with each day that passed, with the general passing of time. it had changed when osamu expressed no longer wanting to play volleyball, it had changed when atsumu began to play professionally, it had changed when osamu admitted to his brother that he planned on marrying his partner. the wedding itself wasn’t the sole catalyst of it all.
“they are. but is that so bad?”
osamu’s surprised, whipping his head towards atsumu’s so he now faced him. raising a brow, he gestured for his brother to continue.
atsumu smiled, small and somewhat wistful, as he stared out into the starless night sky, “we’re livin’ the lives meant for us, aren’t we? me with volleyball, you with onigiri miya. and yer married now too, and they’re fantastic. but i'll still have ya, and you’ll still have me.”
osamu nodded along, it was something that he had been thinking about for a while now, maybe since the day he stopped playing volleyball; the distance and difference in the lives that they wanted to live.
but here atsumu was, on a grand spiel about change and constancy, how both could be things that coexisted, how the two of them were pretty much proof of that idea.
osamu smiled, any ounce of doubt slowly disappearing. atsumu might still need him, but he needed him back just as much. and they’d be a constant in each other’s changing lives, whether they liked it or not.

I had a nasty fight with my former bff. This was long ago. She did the whole 'boycotting me' thing at school and afterwards had a mutual friend pass her msg to me, saying "tell her [me] to get it into her skull that she's not the center of the world, who does she think she is? Stop acting like a #" Im simplifying the words, her actual words were nastier
I got thinking today abt this fight, and her comment abt me that is still way too fresh in my mind even tho I hadn't recalled it in 2-3 yrs!, and I actually decided to use the law to revise my friendship to feel better as what happened after the fight was shameful on my part. But before I knew it, I started rmmbring my relationship with her. How I became a total victim. Got so stuck on her validation, begged her to be friends with me (after I got the degrading msg. 🤕 silly me w/o a backbone lol) and stayed her 'bestie' for way too long. Only after it's all over im noticing smth messed up abt out 'feiendship'. It wasnf that normal I think. She would get so pissed if I did anything that went against her thoughts/beliefs/way (which is why she called me a selfish # that major fight). It was so subtle the way she showed her disapproval. To her, if I did anything not aligned with her, or even makih decisions on my own which didn't involve her, it was wrong. And had consequences like her beinf distant for days etc, or getting angry if I didn't mind read her bla bla, I just had to keep her at the top 24/7 and she expected everyone else to do the same... which I thought was normal... It wasnt. And what would be even more crazy is she never realized how that meant she always wanted the attention. That she always wanted it her way! It just makes me feel... Sad.... When I look back. How couldn't I have notived it before? I used to be strong headed, opinionated before I became 'besties' with her.. That all has changed. I wonder why -_-
It may be dumb on my part but with the weak mind and insecurity I had then, I took that fight/her reaction to the heart and internalisef this stupidiy (DENY MYSELF if the other alternative was denying HER. I didn't think it was wrong. For the oldme, it really wasn't wrong smh). Aaah I'm so sorry old me :(
This fight started bcoz she asked me for smth and I refused, instead of relenting like I always would, and I see now that her reaction (to me not being an obedient # to her ig?🤢) was basically her setting rules. It was wrong of me to refuse, yes, but why did she react that way? Why did this pattern continue? That everyone was selfish if they didn't think of her ;_; like how do u deal with this? And the icing is when I too started to defend her and make excuses for her all the time. And ik I'm making her out to be so strong, don't worry... I accept the strong only rule when the weak submit. And I was weak as hell, so its understandable this whole thing. I think 😅
Idk. I seen your posts abt eyipo with other anons so i hope u can tell me figure out what this was. Its clear to me she was projecting smth about me, and mb throughout our whole friendship she was projecting me. And I would think it was her hurting me, that she was right and I was wrong or maybe I did smth wrong. Mb I thought I deserved being punished that way?!
Today I suddenly had an aha moment and I realised... this is how a victim thinks. I didn't know I was a victim when I was living that stoey aka thought I was powerless. When in fact I really wasn't?! Haha still accepting I 555% created ALL that. The law can knock you out haha
Enough old story I just want to ask, what du u think the msg she sent to me was? Did I really deserve such a reaction (did I mention she included other girls in the boycot? 🤢) just for standing up for myself? What about the whole 'fight' aka showcase of power? And the entire yrs of being friends why did I never realize I was only hurting myself so much by putting her before me? And also, with the everyone pushed out thing, how did it fit in? Like why the hell did I give her too much power in validating me by giving in after the fight in the first place?, and while I did have some fun times (saying this so anyone else who reads this doesn't think it was pure torture lol. We had some common interests tyat no one else in the class shared when we first became 'friends'), deep down I was so unhappy so why didn't this reflect on her? I mean why didn't she ever sense just how much she'd hurt me, why didn't she see how much I put on the back burner coz of her?! Was it as she saw it as her right? I'm just so confused
This is still a bitter pill to swallow tbh but I have to face this in order to move on. This person and my life with her has left me wit many scars and I got to understand how I did this so I never attract such a person in my life again. Its not even abt bejnf a victim. As I said, these victimy things were subtle and I only noted them when it was too late and I was a shell, like she getting super pissed and disapproving if I had a differing opinion and me blowijg it out of proportion and tailoring my views or not expressing them so as to not feel the disapproval...thanks boycott conditioning ig? 😭 Aaaah even talking agaunst her rn is making me uncomfortable. Which makes me think I still am scared of her subconsciously even tho she's no longer in my life. Like, what in me made me choose her? I haven't healed, obviously by this ask as u can tell, but idk what is it in my self concept that had this whole thing in my past even happen
My friend, I also want to say I think you're a beautiful soul 🥺. And im sorry for the long ask lol. And I pray you'll always have all your desires. And plz, was it hard for u at first when u learned about u creating everything? The good, the bad, and the repulsive (like this story)? How did u get over old stories? Ty ty ty 😭
To begin with you're being really harsh on yourself. Like, I know it's hard, but it's never that serious. And trust me, this is something I have to remind myself of regularly. Because there have definitely been moments in life where I look back on myself in that moment, and I feel like I was pathetic and would slap myself if I could. But the truth is, there's just no need for any of that. We always did the best we could. We always did, period. We couldn't have done anything differently and this will continue to be true our entire lives. Looking back on the past with such overwhelming feelings, is really not needed. I get looking back to learn from it, but practice coming from a place of love and acceptance instead. It will help you grow, rather than get stuck back in this cycle of self-hate and confusion. Plus, you actually never need to analyze the past to grow but that's beyond the point right now.
To me, by reading your ask, the message she sent to you was clear. You feel you deserve less in life, you feel you're not good enough, you feel like a victim to life and others, you feel like you're not empowered or the operant power of your reality. It's not about her being wrong and you being right, and I get this is one of the hardest pills to swallow. Everyone is you pushed out. Therefore, there's simply no such thing as who is right and who is wrong anymore. It was only ever you.
When it comes to everyone is you pushed out, you have to understand this person isn't this way because that's who they are. They were that way because that's who you were. Inside of you, you brought their character to life. Therefore, the same way you are not stuck to such an undesirable self concept, neither is that person. It's not that you chose her and attracted her in. You were just dealing with yourself. That's what I hope you walk away from this response understanding. Because by thinking she was outside of you, you're missing the mark. And this is such an important concept to understand when it comes to the law of assumption, because it's really at the forefront of everything. People play such a huge role in our lives, whether it's relationships, jobs, opportunities, etc etc. So understanding how everyone is you pushed out actually works is extremely important.
So instead of putting all this blame on her or even putting the blame on yourself, all these memories really do is give you a glimpse into who you were at the time. It shows you the beliefs you held about yourself. It shows you what your self concept was. That's all it's doing. So in that way, there's actually no one to blame at all. I know it feels good to put blame, even when it's on yourself, but the truth is there's no room for blame when you learn about the law. You simply take responsibility and become empowered by the power you have held this entire time. And you practice making it work in your favor.
If you want to see how something was apart of your self concept, all you have to do is pay attention to what you are thinking/feeling. Shame, not being good enough, etc etc is all just stories you once held onto. Now you don't have to hold onto those stories anymore. Now that you know the power you hold, you get to make a new decision for yourself. Rather than ruminating of the painful past, allow it to be and know how that's not your story anymore.
Was it difficult for me to accept how I created everything? Yes and no. It's been a journey. While I could accept it logically, emotionally it was still very painful. Many times I wanted to cry and lash out when I felt alone and felt upset that no one was there for me. Although, I knew deep down it appeared that way because of my own concept of self. So yeah, it's been a journey. And it's honestly not always delightful. But this is the journey we have to take for the rest of our lives, so we might as well get used to practicing and applying these concepts. Instead of continuing to hold ourselves in such painful lights. I got through old stories, and I continue to get through old stories, by feeling all the pain that came up. By allowing myself to cry and feel however I felt like during those times. And in the back of my mind I knew I was getting stronger in my power. I knew how I would keep persisting once the pain subsided. And little by little, old stories fade more and more. That persistence to continue choosing better for yourself, is truly more powerful than it may seem in a difficult moment. Have trust in how it's all working out for you regardless.
Hopefully this is helpful! Thank you for your kind words. 💖

Don’t believe the hype 👻
Tumblr media
“C’mon Y/N! You’re not backing out now are you? Unless you’re scared of course.” Ace snickered as he pulled you along the dimly lit hallway. Your only light source being a few wax candles that were already starting to melt away.
You wormed out of Ace’s grip and crossed your arms. “I am not! Ghost aren’t even that scary! I-In fact, I-I think they’re cute!” You lied. The floor boards creaked at your sudden movements, causing you to yelp, and broke your cool facade.
Ghosts have always been frightening to you, they were just so eerie and looked so empty inside. The stories you’ve heard about hauntings or disappearances caused by ghosts were enough to make your skin crawl. While the ghosts back at Ramshackle were pretty much harmless, that didn’t mean you weren’t cautious. Honestly, they found it hilarious seeing you bolt out the door whenever one of them popped up unexpectedly. And you’ve had quite enough of it.
“Nyaaaaagh! How much longer are we gonna stay here!” Grim whined, only to be ignored by the rest of you. You scratched between his ears as he climbed onto your shoulders. “There’s no way I’m missing out on getting my well deserved candy ya know!” You sighed and continued to scratch his ears, hoping to calm yourself. “We’re only halfway done and you’re still complaining?” Deuce replied.
Halloween was coming up and that meant the students of Night Raven were getting ready to celebrate with the Scary Monsters festival. It’s not that you weren’t excited, dressing up in extravagant costumes and getting free candy sounded like a blast compared to this. But you were more nervous than anything. Halloween also meant more ghosts crossing over into the living world, which meant more sleepless nights for you! However, you were determined to rid yourself of this childish fear once and for all!
“You know, you don’t have to go through with this if you’re this scared Y/N.” Deuce said, rubbing your back reassuringly. “This bet is stupid anyways, you shouldn’t have to prove anything.” Ace scoffed.
“Don’t try and get out of this either Deuce! What, you scared too~”
“S-shut up! Am not!” It was Deuce’s turn to stutter now.
“Besides, the Prefect’s the one who came up with this idea anyways.”
“R-Right! It’s fine Deuce, t-this isn’t as bad as I thought anyways.” You said, a bit more confidence in your voice. You immediately regretted your decision, but it was you who made your bed and now you must lie in it.
Yes, you made a bet with Ace. After discovering your fear of ghosts, Ace’s constant banter was nothing new to you. But once Halloween arrived it was almost nonstop, until this morning you’ve had quite enough. To rid yourself of your fear and to shut Ace up for good, you proposed a bet. Spending the night in a haunted house! And it just so happened the locals were setting up one not far from campus! Of course, Ace took you up on this. If he won, you had to do all his homework for a week. And if you won, he had to try on all the cute and girly clothing you’ve been working on for a week.
So far, it wasn’t anything too bad. There were a few people in gorey costumes set up to scare you, causing the four of you to either scream or run away countless times. Deuce even punched one of the employees, leaving you to apologize before taking off. But neither of you left, so it was a start. You were now in a dark hallway, with no signs of employees or the other customers. It was just your group all alone in a long, dark, scary hallway. With a lone wooden door sitting at the end.
Suddenly.....
The lights went out. Great.
“Ace!” You shouted, startling everyone with your sudden outburst. “Stop poking me! T-this is bad enough! Do you always have to be so mean!”
“What are you talking about! It wasn’t me!” Ace shot back.
“Aaaah!” Deuce shouted, “Something just touched me!”
“Stop moving so much! It was me!” Grim yelped, climbing on top of a frightened Deuce.
The bickering continued until a strong wind shook the tree branches outside, rattling along the cracked windows. Now you were all huddled close together, inching your way towards the door. Cautious of any other strange occurrences that might happen.
“I can’t take much more of this!” You cried, on the verge of tears. This reminded you of that stupid horror club in back in Shibuya. Which is where you’d rather be than this.
“Pffft. L-Like the Great Grim is afraid of a couple of stupid tricks!”
“D-don’t worry, if anything happens I’ll protect us!”
“Will all of you shut up! I-It’s just the wind!” Ace exclaimed, trying his best to sound confident. “T-there’s nothing to be afraid of.” You huffed at his pathetic attempt. That didn’t matter right now: you were almost out of here. Until....
You all screamed. As a loud voice, that practically shook the floorboards beneath you, screeched as loud as humanly possible. If whatever that thing was was human at all, it sent frigid chills down your spine as you were the first one out the door.
The four of you booked it right out of there. Out of the hallway, down the stairs, through the mazes of eerie rooms, all the way down to the first floor. And left. Startling the other customers, nearly being run over by a group of kids and a cat. All the way back to the school, completely ignoring any comments or questions from any lingering students who asked about your fun time, each making your way back to your dorms.
Before: as you all made your way out of the funhouse, you failed to notice a small head peaking out from behind the window where you once stood. A curious look on its milky features as it gave a small giggle, as if someone told it a hilarious joke. Then disappeared......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEA!! i hope you've had a lovely day so far <3 can i get meet-cute no. 44 spiced with some jukebox please?
AAAAH! THANK YOU! It was pretty good, got chocolate cake which always makes a day so much better 😂 thanks for the prompt and I hope you like it!!💜
44. You fix your hair in the reflection of a window to see them smiling at you through it.
Luke was late. Rehearsal had lasted a little longer than anticipated but he had been so wrapped up in creating the perfect riff with Bobby, that he had completely forgotten about his shift.
 Only after Alex had ended their session by reminding them of his date with Willie, had Luke realized how late it was. He had changed in the garage, tying the tie while rushing out. Throwing his bike against the back alley’s wall, he had hurried to the front entrance.
 Reggie had helped him land the job at the café a little over a month ago. The owner was the father of the kid their bassist sometimes babysat and Luke had been late so often, Ray had given him the last warning just two days ago.
He cursed under his breath, as he stumbled over the uneven sidewalk. Taking his hat off, he stopped in front of the café’s window, running a hand through his hair. It stood every which way just like it always did and Luke was so busy with trying to make it seem like had used a comb sometime today, that he caught her gaze way too late.
 His hands froze, brain screeching to halt because even with the glass’ reflection, he realized that she was beautiful and very obviously laughing. Bashfully, he bit his lip, rubbed his neck.
 She didn’t break eye contact, though. Not when he stepped away from the window, not when he took the three steps to the front door or stepped through it.
 Luke tried to calm down his rapidly beating heart. He could always say it was due to racing here but when her smile grew a little bit bigger as he came closer, he knew it was a lie.
 “Hi,” he said when he was finally only a step or two away. His hands played with his hat nervously because without the glass separating them, she was even prettier.
 “Hey,” she answered.
 “Luke!” Ray’s voice came from the counter and he flinched.
 Right. Work. And he was late. Again. Spinning around, Luke started talking a mile a minute, throwing on his most winning smile. “I am so sorry, Ray, but Bobby really needed my help with that riff and I know, you said last warning, but maybe I can work for free this weekend. Just not Saturday evening, because we have a gig then but I can always take the Sunday morning shift, right? I know Kayla doesn’t like that one and you sure as hell wanna spend Sunday with your family, right and—”
 “Luke,” Ray said again, holding up his hand to stop him from talking.
 Taking a deep breath, Luke hoped he had convinced his boss enough about his good will to keep the job. He could really use the money and Ray was the best boss he had so far. Also, it certainly would make a better impression on the girl if he wasn’t fired right in front of her.
 His boss sighed, doing his best to keep a firm expression. “Fine, take the Sunday morning shift but I actually wanted to introduce to my daughter. She’s gonna help out during the summer break.”
 “Oh cool!” Luke exclaimed, heart beating more freely because he wasn’t getting fired. At least, not today. “Where is she?”
 Somebody behind him cleared their throat. He spun around meeting brown eyes and a smirk. “Hi, I’m Julie,” she said and his heart stuttered, because… “The daughter.”
 “Oh…,” he breathed out. Only now did his eyes travel past her face and he recognized the same uniform he was wearing. He swallowed because it looked way better on her and maybe he shouldn’t check out his boss’ daughter right in front of him.
 “It’s nice to meet you, Dad’s been telling me an awful lot about how you’re always late.” She chuckled.
 Luke rubbed the back of his neck, trying to will down the blush that dared to creep into his cheeks. His mouth opened and closed for a few times, brain not working properly because she was still smiling at him, eyebrows raised. If she was to stick around, he’d probably mess up even more orders than usual. Especially, if she kept looking at him like that.
 A hand landed on his shoulder. “Table six is waiting to order,” said Ray behind him.
 He nodded automatically, eyes still trained on Julie who tapped her fingers against the tray she was holding.
 Working with Julie wasn’t as bad as he had imagined. He didn’t mess up more than usual, she even laughed at a few of his jokes and when their hands touched as they reached for the milk, she blushed really prettily.
 Luke made sure not to be late for work after that. He even was early, if it meant he could sneak a kiss or two in the back alley before their shift together.

The Pat Down [Saiouma]
hi! this was directly inspired by tickly-tuft's fic gentle persuasion, which is still a fave of mine to this day! i thought the setting was perfect and i also have no more original ideas zsjkfhjks so i put a lil spin on it (i hope thats ok tt!!) please enjoy yet another phantom thief au fic, this time from ouma’s perspective!
~~~~~
Ouma Kokichi never got caught. And if he did, he always found a way out.
Those words repeated in his mind like a mantra as he sat with wrists cuffed to the table and ankles fettered to the legs of the chair. They echoed again and again, but as time continued to pass it was getting more and more difficult to believe his own lies. The agency wasn't playing around this time. It appeared that they had invested in some new toys, some of which were constructed with seemingly impossible locks that even a professional like Ouma couldn't get out of. After tinkering with them for awhile, he got bored and decided to just wait for the detective instead.
The sound of clinking metal clinking rang throughout the empty interrogation room whenever he made the slightest movement. He had been sitting there alone for what felt like hours, so he was starting to get a bit restless. Being a prisoner was boring without a guard there to toy with.
Luckily, he didn't have to wait much longer. The door finally opened, revealing a serious looking Saihara who seemed less than pleased to see his arch rival in his chambers once again.
Ouma flashed him a flirtatious grin and readied his arsenal of comebacks. The best part was about to begin.
"Afternoon, Saihara-chan," he sang in a honey sweet voice. "Or is it evening now? I've been waiting here for soooooooo long. I thought my beloved detective had forgotten about me. Huhuuu..." he conjured up a few tears while giving him the biggest puppy dog eyes he could muster.
"It's been twenty minutes," Saihara stated, unfazed by Ouma's theatrics. "I had to finish up some paperwork. You really made a mess of things today."
Ouma shrugged. "Wasn't my fault your officers can't tap dance."
"We had to call in an expert from China to deactivate the lasers, Ouma."
"At least it wasn't boring, right?"
Saihara sighed and rubbed his eyes. He seemed more ragged than usual. Ouma would’ve felt guilty if he wasn’t so damn stubborn about pulling all-nighters to solve his cases.
"Can you please make this easy for me today? I'm tired. I was up all last night doing research."
Ouma recoiled, trying to mime the action of clutching his heart without the use of his hands.
"Is my beloved detective involved with another thief? I'm heartbroken, Shumai! How could you do such a thing?!"
He received a deep sigh in response.
"Alright, I guess we'll have to do this the hard way."
In an unexpected move, Saihara walked towards the bound thief and stood behind him. Ouma tried turning his head to see where he was going (and what he was doing), but Saihara was standing at a weird angle out of his line of vision.
He opened his mouth to speak, but all that came out with a breathy, panicked gasp.
The feeling of two pairs of hands patting both of his sides, moving up and down from underarms to calves, made him jump at each point of contact. Ouma gritted his teeth, choking back high pitched vocalizations in an effort to speak.
"Nnnngh! Huh, huh, hey!! What are you doing?!"
"Making sure you don't have any dirty tricks up your sleeves before I interrogate you."
"Mmmh!! I don't!!"
The hands continued to explore, gently tapping against his chest while Ouma squirmed as much as he could while trapped in place. Fortunately, Saihara seemed ignorant to his suffering for now, but he knew he wouldn't be able to hold it in much longer...
"Come ooooon! They took all my gear already! You don't have to-aaaha!" He muffled the last cry as much as he could, but the little accidental flutters against his thighs and hips were really beginning to get to him. He wanted to scream when Saihara tried pulling off one of his shoes and brushed against the top of his foot. One finger snuck into the side, seeking out gadgets and doohickeys that Ouma usually had on help to aid his escapes. His touch was soft and cautious, and it tickled bad.
"Stop squirming so much, you're making this harder."
"Then stop touching me-eeehe!"
That was it; the breaking point. Saihara froze, taken aback by the sudden uncharacteristic squeal Ouma had just let out. The thief cursed himself internally, scrambling to think of a way to move past the situation.
"Saihara-chan is such a perv... you know, if you wanted to do a cavity search that badly, you could've just asked..."
He thought the innuendo would be enough to throw him off, since it usually was, but the detective had discovered something new and nothing could stop him from investigating further. Ouma couldn't see him, and for the next several seconds he found himself on edge. Inhaling sharply, forgetting to exhale... until he gasped again, quite loudly this time, when Saihara gently poked his sides.
"You're ticklish," he whispered to him. Ouma could hear the smirk in his voice. Blunt denial was all he could think of in defense.
"Hmm? Don't know what you're talking about, Mister Detective, but maybe instead of focusing on me you should be going after my associ-AAAAH!"
The screech was caused by an abrupt pinch on his lower side. He would've crunched himself sideways if his wrists hadn't been shackled in front of him.
"Don't change the subject," Saihara replied, moving his hands a bit faster. Ouma arched his back and wiggled from side to side as ten fingers curled into his ribcage. He broke out into maniacal laughter, unable to restrain his childlike giggles any longer. "How did I not know about this before?"
"Naahahhahaooo! Get AHAHAHAHAFF!!"
"Where's the Monet painting you stole today?"
"Whahaat!?!"
"I know you still have it. It wasn't under the floorboards like last time. What did you do with it?"
"Mmmgnnhhh-GAHAHAHAHAHA! Stahahahhap Shuichi!!!"
It wasn't often that he used his first name, but Ouma's mind was in shambles and that was the first thing he clung to. He was trying to focus on fighting against the tickly sensations, which meant less effort towards making coherent speech. What was making it harder was listening to Saihara quietly chuckling next to his ear, as if he were having the time of his life torturing Ouma.
"Well?" he asked, finally pausing after god knows how long.
"I told you... I don't have it... NONOONOOOOO! Not there not thehehehere!!"
The thief was borderline screaming. Electric jolts slammed into his brain as Saihara tickled the hollows of his arms. It was the most intense sensation yet. He would’ve broken both arms if it meant getting away.
"You always tell me you're a liar, how do i know if you're telling the truth now?"
"I dropped it on my way out!! Pleaeheeheese STOOOP!!"
"Hmm... alright, I guess I believe you."
Ouma felt his hands leave his body at last, but tension kept him rigid long after. He swallowed air, trying to regain his senses after the tickle attack he'd just experienced.
"Jeez... I didn't know you were such a sadist..."
Saihara rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, the realization of what he'd done finally dawning on him.
"I'm sorry... I was a little mean, wasn't I?"
Ouma faked a frown, furrowing his brows in an ersatz display of anger.
"Utterly cruel. I'm scarred for life."
Saihara knelt beside him. His hazel eyes were warm and soft, a look only reserved for Ouma. The thief would never admit it, but that was what made him fall for the detective in the first place.
"How can I make it up to you?"
"Give me your undying, eternal devotion. And also ten million dollars."
"How about I do this and call it even?"
Before Ouma could respond, he felt Saihara lift his chin gently with two fingers, forcing him to meet his gaze. He watched him lean closer, eyelids fluttering shut, and followed suit. He felt softness against his lips and melted. There wasn't much else on his mind besides the feeling of Saihara so near and the sweetness of the kiss they shared.
All too quickly it was over. The detective pulled away and gave him a small smile before making his way towards the door. Ouma could still feel heat radiating from his face. For once, he was speechless.
"See you at the next heist," were his parting words. "Make sure to use the air vents this time, please."
He closed the door behind him and was gone. Ouma sat there for a second, still processing what just happened, before slowly slipping both wrists from loosened cuffs. His ankles followed suit, but when he stood, his stance wobbled and he had to brace himself against the wall. His fingers grazed his lips, still in disbelief.
“Maybe I should get caught more often...”
Chapter 34 - 6 Years Til Forever (FINALE)
Friday morning you found yourself sitting in the living room, awake before even the sun had poked its head out to say hello. You were excited about the picnic, and knowing the girls would be there put you at ease, as they also were unaware of the baby. It was wild, just thinking that yet again, there was a baby growing inside of you, one you created with someone you truly loved. Min Ja and Hyo Bin were the only two things you positively took away from your time with Weong-Bin, but this child? This child was just the beginning of many happy memories that were just waiting to be shared. Despite knowing deep down this would work well, you were still ungodly nervous.
           As you sat in the living room, you heard footsteps approaching from down the steps. Looking over, you saw Taehyung, rubbing his eyes and ruffling his curly hair. You didn’t expect him to be awake at this hour, but here he was despite the slight annoyance etched on his face.
           “Hm? Morning.” He mumbled, walking over to you. “Why are you awake this early?”
           “Couldn’t go back to sleep. What about you?”
           “I promised Hobi-Hyung I would help him get your picnic set up Apparently he had a whole bunch of stuff he wants to make.” You chuckled a bit. “So, you need to go inside. It’s a huge surprise.”
           “Well when Hoseok gets up and comes out here, then I’ll get ready to go inside.” You said. Taehyung sat beside you, and you ruffled his hair. “How does your hair look good even when you first wake up?” you asked curiously as Taehyung let out a yawn.
           “Mmm, I’m perfect, of course.” He said, making a dramatic pose with his hand in front of his face. You rolled your eyes as your brother let out a playful giggle. “So, are you ready to tell Hyung?” he asked. You let out a shaky breath. “You can’t hide it much longer.”
           “I know. I think I’m ready. I just can’t help but think the worst.”
           “You know he’ll be thrilled, right? You just need to tell him.”
           “But what if he just wants it to be us and the girls? I want to be with Hobi forever, which means the kids will be with him too. Maybe two is all he wants.”
           “There’s a difference between kids you help raise and kids that are yours, no matter how much he loves the girls. Besides, Hyung has enough energy for fifty kids.”
           “Jesus, Tae.” You sighed, and once again, Taehyung laughed a bit. “Fifty?” He could only shrug in amusement. “…I didn’t think I would have any more kids after Hyo Bin. I’m a bit nervous too.”
           “You’ll do just fine.” He assured, ruffling your hair. You smiled. “I’m always here too, you know. So are Mom and Dad, who I’m sure stopped at a baby store on their way home.” You laughed.
           “I know they did, they sent me pictures of cribs.” Taehyung laughed a bit. “Once he knows we’ll really need to start saving for an apartment. I wouldn’t want to burden you with-.”
           “Shut up.” He said quickly. “You’re not a burden, don’t rush. There are more important things you need to worry about than a place to live, you’re always welcome here.” You smiled.
           “You’re trying to make up for all those times that you were an absolute pain in the ass as a kid, aren’t you?”
           “I don’t think I’ll ever in my life make up for all of them.” He grinned. You laughed a bit as Taehyung chuckled shyly. “You should get some more rest before you have to get the girls up. Hyung should be up at any moment and we’re getting right to work.” You nodded, getting up off the couch.
           “Oh, alright.” You hummed, waving him off before heading back into the bedroom. When you walked in, Hoseok was already sitting up in bed, a grin on his face.
           “Why are you up?” he asked curiously. You crawled back into bed just as he was slipping out. “Get some rest, we have a long day today.”
           “Does a picnic really count as a long day?” you asked curiously, cuddling up under the covers. Hoseok grinned sheepishly, scratching his cheek.
           “This one will. I can promise you that.” He assured. You raised an eyebrow. “Aaaah, go back to sleep. I need to go get everything ready.” Without another word, he hurried out of the room. You smiled, laying back and closing your eyes.
Hoseok also realized as he headed down the hall that he wasn’t too sure how he felt when Friday finally rolled around. It was a day he had been planning since he was bored and alone in his hospital room. He made sure he had everything down: he knew exactly what he wanted to say, how he wanted to say it, where he wanted to say it, and even practiced the reactions he would have based on different responses from you. He practiced his happy cry, his sad cry, he practiced not crying at all just in case. He felt that he was absolutely prepared for everything that could happen when it came to proposing to you. He was ready!
           The family was still residing in Taehyung’s apartment until they could find another place to live. Your parents had spent another few day’s there as well before they had to pack up and head back home themselves, leaving the five of you in Taehyung’s nice house. Taehyung had no problem with you guys staying, in fact, he was trying to make your stay as long as you possibly could because he loved having you around. Not only that, but it meant when friends like Namjoon, Yoongi, Jungkook, and Seokjin came by, they would have to come to his house. The trial allowed all 7 boys to finally meet all together and get acquainted with those they had never met before, leading to a tight friendship beginning to form. However, the company was not the focus of today. As Friday afternoon crept its way into Seoul, Hoseok was standing at the counter of the kitchen, with the help of an eager Taehyung. Both of them were chopping up some vegetables, putting side dishes in Tupperware, and setting everything into a nice picnic basket.
           “I’m so excited.” Taehyung beamed, looking at Hoseok.
           “I know, me too. I thought I would be nervous, but I don’t think I am.”
           “Well Noona won’t say no.” Taehyung assured. Hoseok looked at him.
           “How are you so sure?” he asked.
           “She’s my big sister, I just know. She’ll definitely say yes, trust me.” Hoseok hummed.
           “Alright, I trust you then, Taehyung.” He said simply. As he set the final ingredient into the basket and closed it all up, he hummed. “Okay, ready.”
           “Where’s the ring?” Taehyung asked softly, although you were dressing the girls in another room and there’d be no way to hear him. Hoseok simply patted the little pouch that sat comfortably on his waist.
           “In plain sight and yet totally hidden, aren’t I brilliant?” he grinned. Taehyung grinned. “Okay, everything is ready to go. Let’s go see if the girls are ready.” As the boys hurried to the girl’s shared bedroom, Hoseok knocked on the door. “You girls ready to go yet?” He asked. It only took a second before Min Ja opened the door. She was wearing a pair of overalls with a rainbow-striped shirt and matching sunhat. Across her chest laid a tiny flower handbag that Taehyung had bought her to put all her important items, you know, like rocks she found on the floor or pieces of sparkles and glitter she planned to save. Important things. “Wow, how cute you look, Min Ja.” he grinned.
           “I know. Hyo Bin wants to dress like me, but she doesn’t have the same bag. The one Uncle Tae got her was of a heart.” As if on cue, a loud scream ripped from the room, and the boys stuck their heads inside. They saw you wrestling your three-year-old’s socks on, but she was kicking and screaming.
           “Hyo Bin your bag is just as cute as Min Ja’s.”
           “I HATE THE HEART BAG, MAMA! I DON’T WANT IT!” She shouted, sobbing hysterically. You sighed, grabbing hold of a flying leg before it clocked you in the forehead. “MAMAAAA!”
           “You liked it when Uncle Tae took you to the store and bought it, didn’t you?” you asked softly. Hyo Bin continued to wail and scream. “…You’re ten seconds from staying home and not going anywhere if you keep acting like a baby, Hyo Bin. How are you supposed to go to school like Min Ja if you throw tantrums? You’ll get in trouble all the time.”
           “She’s right. A boy in my class throws lots of tantrums.” Min Ja said, still standing by the door. “He also throws lots of chairs.” Taehyung glanced down at the little girl, a confused look on his face, though she didn’t seem bothered. As you managed to get both of Hyo Bin’s socks on, your effort was thwarted, as Hyo Bin yanked the sock off and tossed them angrily away from her. Having enough, you released your daughter and lied on your back.
           “Okay, Hyo Bin. You’ve made up your mind.” You said simply. Hyo Bin, confused as to why she was no longer being held down, turned to look at you, though she was still hysterical crying. You slowly got up from the floor. “Mommy needs to go get dressed so we can go on our picnic. Min Ja was a good girl and got ready, so she can come. You can stay with Uncle Tae until we come back.”
           “N-no Mama…” she begged, sniffling. She watched you leave the room. “M-mama!” She tried to run after you, but you gently excused yourself between Hobi and Taehyung before heading into your own room. She saw Hobi, Taehyung, and Min Ja looking at her, snotty and runny-nosed and red in the face. “I wanna come, Mr. Hobi…I’m a good girl too.” Hobi smiled a bit, kneeling down and pointing to the crumpled-up socks that Hyo Bin had flung away.
           “How about we go get those socks on okay?” He said. Min Ja sniffled. “They match your heart bag really nice.”
           “I want a bag like Unnie…” Hyo Bin said softly, whimpering.
           “But didn’t you pick the heart bag?” Hoseok asked, picking it up. He gently laid it on Hyo Bin’s shoulder and across her chest. “Look how cute. What can we put in there?” Hyo Bin sniffled, opening it up to pull out a small plastic lipstick and blush container, as well as a few coins Taehyung had put in her bag, along with Min Ja’s when he bought them. “Oooo, wow. So cool. Don’t you like that your bag holds tons of stuff?” Hyo Bin wiggled her way into Hoseok’s arms, nuzzling her head into his neck.
           “Mhm…” she finally said softly. “I wanna come too, Mr. Hobi.”
           “Then we should stop crying, right? You won’t have fun if you’re crying.” Hoseok said gently, patting her head. Hyo Bin sniffled. Though the crying didn’t immediately stop, the girl silently went to her socks and picked them up, walking over towards Hoseok. He guided her onto the floor and simply helped her put the socks on. “There. Lovely. Ready to go?” Hyo Bin nodded as Hoseok scooped her up into his arms. The group exited the playroom, Hyo Bin still all sniffly. You stepped out of the room, fixing the ponytail you had put your hair into. “We’re ready~.”
           “Aaah look how pretty you look.” You said to Hyo Bin, who was still sniffling in Hoseok’s arms. She wiped her eyes, albeit messily, and you smiled.
           “I like your bag, Hyo Bin.” Min Ja said, looking up at her sister. “It looks really pretty with your hat.” The little girl, now with her sister’s approval, finally began to stop the sniffling and calm herself down. With that detour out of the way, the afternoon picnic could commence. Taehyung waved you all off, giving Hoseok a secret thumbs-up. He saw you turn to him as well, and he offered you a supportive thumbs up as well as he watched you guys go. He chuckled to himself, the door closing behind you as Min Ja chatted excessively about how excited she was.
           “Hope this works.” He mumbled to himself, before plopping himself onto his living room couch and turning on the TV to play some video games.
--------------------------------------------------
           “I hope you're excited about this.” Hoseok hummed, tightly holding your hands as he led you down one of the park roads. “I am.”
           “Of course, I’m excited.” You assured. “It was just sudden when you asked me on a date in the middle of the courtroom.”
           “Hehe, yeah I know, sorry, I hope it didn’t catch you off guard or anything. I had been thinking about when I was going to ask and when I saw you it just…eh, blurted out.” You both laughed.
           “No, it didn’t.” You assured. When Hoseok led you to the spot, which was right by a small park for children to run and play on while their parents relaxed, you smiled. “Girls, do you want to go and play on the playground while we set up the food?”
           “Yeah!” The girls shouted in unison. You smiled, watching as they hurried to the park, which was populated with a few other children as well. It looked generally safe that you could divert your attention back and forth from time to time. Hoseok pulled out the picnic blanket, spreading it on the grass before setting different items down to keep it from blowing away.
           “You and Taehyung made quite a spread.” You said.
           “I made it. Taehyung put it in Tupperware and into the basket.” Hoseok assured, making both of you laugh a bit. “But he helped a lot, so it’ll be a good meal.”
           “I’m sure it will be.” You smiled, sitting down on the blanket. Hoseok plopped himself down next to you, before laying back fully and stretching out his limb. “The weather turned out so nice too.” You hummed.
           “Oh, I know. The weather called for rain and I was so nervous I’d have to reschedule everything.” Hoseok pouted a bit, glancing up at you as you looked towards the playground. His hand rested against his pouch, feeling the box that was sitting patiently inside, waiting for its time to shine. Like he did before, all the different possible paths of the day were running through his mind and he was wondering which one he would be walking down. He had to be careful if he wanted to walk down the right path. “I’m just glad we get to spend the day together.” You glanced down at him, smiling.
           “Me too.” You said happily. Like Hoseok, you were also worried about the path you would be walking down. You thought about the talk you had with Taehyung early that morning before anyone else had woken up, and it made you feel a lot better knowing that not only did you have his support, but your parents as well. It comforted you, and already, you knew that the path you were heading down now was leagues different from the path that you found yourself on in college. You needed to just wait for the right moment.
           You allowed the girls some more time to run around, getting themselves hungry enough that they would sit down and eat without much distraction. This allowed you and Hoseok time to relax together, just enjoying each other’s company under a nice, refreshing breeze. Everything felt serene and peaceful, a feeling you had finally been waiting for among all of the trails, secrets, and violence. Everything was falling into place. Hoseok glanced over to you as you reached into the basket and picked up a strawberry, popping it into your mouth. His eyes trailed the finger that would soon hopefully be decorated by the beautiful ring, and he knew he had to do this now before he chickened out for real.
           “I need to talk to you.” He said. You glanced over, curious as to what he meant. “It’s…important.”
           “Is…everything okay?” you asked curiously.
           “Everything is fine, there’s just something I’ve been meaning to ask you. But I wanted to wait until the trial and all the stressful stuff was over so that I wouldn’t be adding more pressure onto you.” You blinked, turning to face him.
           “Well…that’s a coincidence…” you said. “Because I feel the same way.” Hoseok looked at you with slightly wide eyes. “I have to tell you something important too, but I wanted to wait until the trial ended.”
           “I see.” He said. “How about we….” He couldn’t help but chuckle. “Fuck, I wasn’t expecting that.”
           “Sorry. Do you want to go first?” you asked. Hoseok gulped a bit. “No?” You were kind of hoping he would say that because you wanted to just get this off your chest. However, Hoseok did not immediately respond. Hoseok took a shaky breath, before sticking his fist out in your direction. “Huh?”
           “Rock paper scissors.” He said. “The winner out of three rounds go first.” You nodded, sticking your hand out with a small grin on your face. Hoseok followed behind you. “Okay, Rock, Paper, Scissors, Go!” He shouted. You threw out rock, he threw out paper. Hoseok grinned. You blinked, feeling your heart race. You wanted to win, you wanted to get it off your chest. Every second that passed by felt like a knife being pushed deeper and deeper into your chest. Nodding your head, round two began. “Rock, Paper, Scissor, Go!” He said. You threw out scissors, and Hoseok, this time, threw out paper. “Aaaaah.” He groaned, pouting.
           This was the most intense game of Rock Paper Scissors that you have ever played. Never did you think that this would feel like an Olympic sport, where a massive win was on the line, a massive advantage, a massive victory. The third and final round would be the defining factor. It was currently tied.
           “Last round…” you said softly. Hoseok nodded, smiling gently at you. You hummed, before starting the round.
           “Rock.” Hoseok said. You bit your lip. “Paper-.” You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath.
           “I’m pregnant.” You said quickly.
           “Sci-.” Hoseok stopped almost immediately, his eyes going wide. You looked directly at him as soon as those words left your mouth. He was silent for a moment, looking down at his closed fist that was stopped dead in its tracks. “That’s not the next word- WHAT?!” He shouted. You flinched a bit. “You’re pre…you’re pregnant?!” He asked. You could only nod, unable to get his shocked expression out of his face.
           “I wanted to wait until the trial was over to tell you. Then you brought up the idea of the picnic and I figured that would be the best time.” You explained.
           “When did you know?!”
           “When I was in the hospital right after the fires.” You said simply.
           “Does anyone know?”
           “Nayeon was with me when I found out. And I told my parents and Taehyung after…after the first day of the trial.” Hoseok blinked.
           “How did this happen?” he asked. When he saw you open your mouth, he lifted a hand up. “Don’t answer that one. I know how it happened.” Hoseok saw the worry etched on your face, and he felt his chest bubble up with emotions. You could see his eyes watering. “Really?” You nodded, smiling a bit. “Oh my God.” He quickly closed the gap between the both of you, hugging you tightly as he tried not to burst into tears in a public space. “Wow. I was not expecting this to happen at all.”
           “Are you mad?” you asked curiously. Hoseok shook his head, quickly pulling back to look at you.
           “No not at all! After I found out about the other baby, all I could think about was having another one…” he looked down at your stomach with eyes full of wonder and amazement. You gently took one of his hands, placing it on your stomach. You were still relatively early in the pregnancy, so you were just barely showing anything. However, the minute Hoseok lied his hand on your stomach, all the strength he was trying to muster so he wouldn’t cry was gone. You watched as tears began flowing from his eyes. “Aw, man.” He quickly wiped them, and you smiled.
           “Don’t cry!” You begged. “Please don’t cry, you can’t cry!”
           “I’m so happy. Jeez, this isn’t what I planned to happen.” He said, sniffling.
           “Oh. What did you want to tell me?” You asked, looking at him. He held your hand tightly in his, the other sitting firmly on your still flat belly. You smiled. “I totally cheated; you probably would’ve won. What did you want to say?”
           “How am I supposed to propose to you in tears? Isn’t this supposed to be the other way around?” he asked. You blinked, dropping his hand from yours. He looked at you. “What?”
           “Really?” you asked, smiling. Hoseok wiped his eyes, nodding. You felt like you wanted to cry as well, however, explaining why both of you were in tears would be difficult when the girls came back. You swallowed your tears, and a grin sat plastered on your face. “You were going to-.”
           “Yeah, propose. I have a ring and…I had a speech and everything was planned.” He chuckled, opening up his little pouch and pulling out his little black box. Your eyes widened as he opened it, revealing the gorgeously expensive ring that sparkled almost as soon as it hit the light. “It was a whole big thing and I was absolutely terrified you would say no. But…man, after your news, I don’t even think I could top it if I tried.” You giggled a bit.
           “You thought I would say no, you big idiot.” You were quick to take the ring. “Even if I wasn’t carrying your baby, I could never say no…” Hoseok held your wrist, gently taking the ring from your grasp. He laid your hand into his, quickly slipping the ring onto your finger. A smile formed on your lips as you held the ring up to the light, admiring the sparkle that it radiated. “Wow…I can’t believe this is happening.”
           “Tell me about it.” Hoseok said, letting out a shaky sigh. You looked at him and smiled.
           “I think these may go down in history as the oddest proposal and baby announcement ever.” You giggled, and Hoseok followed suit. You smiled, biting your lip. “I love you.” You said softly. Hoseok looked at you, a smile once again forming on his lips.
           “I love you too…” he said simply. You looked down at the ring, Hoseok scooting close to you so that he could once again place his hand on your stomach. “Do you like the ring? Hyo Bin helped me pick it.”
           “It’s so pretty. Not too gaudy. You know my first wedding ring was like that. Very flashy.” Hoseok chuckled. “Sold that thing for a nice sum after the divorce though.” Hoseok couldn’t help but laugh. “But I don’t think I’ll ever sell this one.”
           “Good.” He said. Just as the two of you were finding comfort in each other’s embraces, you heard the sound of two young girls shouting your names. Looking up, Min Ja and Hyo Bin were hurrying over to the picnic table. Min Ja gasped.
           “Mr. Hobi, did you ask Mommy if you could marry her yet?!” She asked. You looked at Hoseok.
           “They knew?” You asked curiously. Hoseok laughed a bit.
           “Min Ja heard me talking to Taehyung when you were putting Hyo Bin to sleep last night.” He admitted. You looked at Min Ja, who saw the ring on your finger. “Did you tell her about the baby?”
           “What baby?” Min Ja asked curiously. You smiled.
           “Well, Mr. Hobi and Mommy are getting married now, and we’re having another baby.”
           “ANOTHER BABY!?” The girls shouted, eyes just as wide as Hoseok’s were, only on their little faces, they looked even wider. You smiled a bit as Min Ja and Hyo Bin crawled into your lap. “Where’s the baby?” Min Ja asked. “I wanna see her.”
           “It’s in her stomach.” Hoseok explained. Gently, he took the girl's hands and placed them alongside his. “It’s really small right now, but when the baby gets bigger, so will your Mom’s stomach.”
           “Great.” You groaned in playful sarcasm. “Just what I want, to be a basketball again.” Hoseok smiled a bit as the girls looked at your stomach.
           “Is it a girl? Can it be a girl, Mommy?” Min Ja asked curiously. You smiled.
           “It can be, but I won’t know until the baby gets bigger.”
           “It can’t be a boy, it just can’t. Boys are gross and icky.” Min Ja pouted. You smiled a bit, ruffling her hair. Hyo Bin didn’t look as excited as Min Ja did at the idea of a little sibling. She just looked at your stomach.
           “Are you excited?” Hoseok asked curiously.
           “No.” she pouted up at him. “I don’t want a new baby.” You smiled, running a hand through her hair.
           “Hyo Bin, you’re going to be a big sister, just like Min Ja is your big sister.” Hyo Bin looked at Min Ja, who was beaming just as much as Hoseok was. She still seemed unconvinced, but she kept the pout on her face and simply held your stomach tightly. You smiled. “How about we all eat, I’m starving.” You suggested, motioning to the opened picnic basket with food just waiting to be eaten. Hoseok pulled the basket over to you and began to pull out food, setting it out for everyone to enjoy. You watched as the girls tried their best to help him by setting out some food as well. He smiled happily, encouraging their helpfulness, which only wanted them to do more to help him. A smile formed on your lips as Hoseok passed you a small wrapped up sandwich, making sure to quickly kiss your cheek before he finished emptying the basket. A hum escaped your lips as you watched the scene unfold.
           Just over 6 years ago, you never would have thought this would be how your life would’ve turned out. So many different paths had been found, doors had closed and others had opened, while other doors were completely destroyed. Despite this, the path that you were on and had been on since you were 20 years-old was one you would never change for anything, despite the hardships that were bestowed upon you. You were hoping that the next 6 years, and even longer, would only allow those paths to open wider and present you with even more wonderful and breathtaking memories.
The story of the sad Chapter 8
Word Count:1,418
Pairing: (not quite there yet) Ban x reader
Warnings: cursing, yelling, SPOILER!
A/N: THE SLOWBURN FINALLY HAS AN END AAAAH!
Tumblr media
It all happened so fast, you barely remembered what actually happened in all the details. You just ran and hoped the guards wouldn´t catch you.
Your way led to Edinburgh where you were safe until the news of your alleged try to usurp Liones reached the kingdom.
That meant you were back to your ways of traveling without a destination in mind. Only this time without Meliodas to keep you company. You weren´t good on your own, you realized.
The only shelter you found was in small towns completely isolated from the rest of Britannia.
Soon enough when you were sure you were safe, you got back to slaying monsters.
It was after five years or so that you realized you left your swords somewhere in your travels.
You tried your best to think about where you´ve been in those years and searched all over Britannia for your sword. You couldn´t even remember when you last used it.
Somehow you ended up in the fairy king´s forest where you reunited with Elaine.
“Hey, long time no see, you haven´t by any chance seen my sword, have you?” you smirked.
She snickered as she hugged you.
“It´s nice to see you too, (Y/N). You look great! As for your sword, I have no idea where you left it, but I could help you search it, it´s quite boring up here on my own” she sighed and you agreed.
“It´s boring traveling alone too, I´d be glad to accept your help and company” you answered.
From now on you traveled with Elaine, catching up and laughing together.
It was when you were close to the Baste dungeon that you realized where your sword could´ve gone.
“I think I know where my sword is, those bastards!” you grumbled, grabbing Elaine´s hand and pulling her behind you as you walked in anger.
“Who? Who´re you talking about? Who´s got your sword?” Elaine was confused and keeping up with your fast walk was a struggle.
“Those fucking holy knights who framed us!” you yelled out in anger.
“But there are so many, how will you know which one took it?” Elaine asked, making you smirk.
“I´ll just have to beat all of them up, then” she could practically feel your blood lust.
You ran all the way to the Baste prison, getting inside was easy and to be honest… the rest was as well.
The only obstacle was an apprentice in her underwear.
“Oi, brat, do you know where my sword is? It´s probably bigger than you, I forged it myself, it´s really distinct, you see… it´s from one of the sins, ring a bell?” you asked her in a low threatening voice.
“Are you talking about the goddess´ sword? I heard the king of Camelot obtained it” Jericho told you, you didn´t know whether she was lying to save her life because she didn´t know where it was or if it really was in Camelot.
“Are you fucking kidding me?! We were there just two years ago! Oh how great that we have to travel back there! Are all of you holy knights just fucking useless nowadays?!” you shouted and could literally be heard throughout the entire prison.
“What´s (Y/N) doing here? Are they with the captain? Is he already here?” Ban thought to himself as he heard your voice. And as he figured, his heart still beat faster, but it ached at the same time.
So all of the time he spent redeeming himself was useless, amazing.
You stomped through the prison, trying to find the exit and only grew more infuriated the longer you walked.
You thought about just punching the walls in and escaping that way when you heard Ban´s voice that made you stop in your way.
He talked about how he let himself get caught to feel pain, but how he got bored with it now.
You suppressed a laugh but still smirked, that bastard still was the same after ten years.
Why were you still so excited to see him when he was the one who broke your heart?
But you couldn´t give in, not at this point.
You turned around and got back the way you came in.
Much to your surprise, you ran into Meliodas and Diane.
“(Y/N)? What are you doing here?” Meliodas asked nonchalantly as if it wasn´t a big deal he didn´t see you in ten years.
“You guys! You´re well, I´m so glad!” you on the other hand couldn´t conceal your excitement and went to hug Diane and Meliodas.
“I´m looking for my sword, you didn´t see it, did you?” you asked, still not losing hope.
They both shook their heads and you sighed.
“I should´ve known that tramp was lying...” you mumbled.
“There you are!” Elaine said out of breath, she got lost in the prison and had a hard time catching up to you.
“Elaine? You were with (Y/N)?” Meliodas really was in a question mood today.
“Yeah! They came by the forest, looking for their sword so I helped search!” she smiled brightly.
Meliodas chuckled.
“You should be more careful with your belongings, (Y/N)” he scolded you playfully, before laughing and hugging you.
“I missed you” he told you.
“Missed you too!” you hugged him back.
“Oi, (Y/N), you sure you´re not here because of Ban?” Diane played with her hair and giggled.
Only the mention of him was enough to make you blush into oblivion.
“I´m not!” you started punching Diane´s leg, but she only giggled more.
“You´re tickling me! Stop it!” she laughed out loud, you joined in until Ban was approaching you from the other side and you lost your words, your thoughts, your breath.
You hid behind Diane before he could see you, it was childish you knew it, but you just didn´t know how to react or approach him.
After Meliodas´ and Ban´s rather unique reunion ceremony that casually destroyed the whole prison, you sat down on Diane´s shoulder, holding onto her for dear life.
You landed softly and Diane nervously checked her bag to see if its inhabitants were unharmed.
“Elizabeth… she´s grown quite a bit” you mumbled, you would never get used to the reincarnation thing.
“(Y/N)? I thought it was you yelling in there” Ban mentioned and you wished you could sink into the ground.
“Huh? Oh… yeah… I guess it was” you said quietly, why couldn´t you just go back to ignoring each other, it was much easier this way.
“We´ll leave you two alone now, we gotta deliver that doctor´s daughter!” Diane giggled, grabbing Meliodas and  Elaine, leaving you and Ban alone. Curse that giant girl.
“It´s good to see you, (Y/N)” Ban started the awkward conversation.
You didn´t know how to respond, hell you didn´t even know how to feel right now.
“I´m sorry for being an asshole back then” he got straight to the point, taking you by surprise. But he continued before you could respond.
“I have no idea why I didn´t believe you, something in my mind was seriously screwed up, who am I kidding, I´m still the same fucked up asshole than I was ten years ago, my whole life… But you don´t deserve that, you deserve better than that. But instead of pushing my feelings and you away,   I´m trying to be this better person for you if you´re alright with that” Ban told you, this was his moment of redemption he waited for, he longed for all those years.
“You´re already perfect, to me at least” you told him. You never thought your reunion would be like this.
You never even dared dreaming about the possibility of Ban liking you back after he rejected you at the ball, you just didn´t have any words to describe the relief, this huge ecstasy you were feeling right now.
Ban smiled at you, tracing your face with his fingers gently.
“I´m one lucky bastard, aren´t I? For you to forgive me, I mean. I like you too, (Y/N), in case you couldn´t tell already. And I´m sorry again” he averted his eyes, ashamed of himself.
“You have all the time in the world to make it up to me” you smiled sadly and took his hand into your own, squeezing it to show him that he was forgiven.
Ban really appreciated the gesture and this time he really liked the feeling of his heart going berserk in his chest.
He chuckled, he didn´t need the pain to feel alive, he just needed you.
Waiting It Out
Fandom: Marvel (College AU)
Pairing: Chubby!Bucky Barnes x Reader
As requested by anonymous:  hi! I was wondering if I could request something where you’ve been friends with Bucky for years and there’s been mutual pining forever but now that he’s chubby he’s more reluctant to tell her about his feelings. love u btw 💛💙❤️
Tumblr media
You’re not even sure you remember life before Bucky. When you met Bucky in sophomore year of high school, you just knew that that friendship was made to last. He was funny, smart, kind, and was always there for you. You were there for him as well. When his dad passed during senior year, it was hard for Bucky. He was so emotionally devastated, he was so close to failing his last year of high school. But thanks to you, he was able to walk across the stage and accept that diploma from the principal, while shooting you a wink and smile.
You were proud to call Bucky Barnes your best friend. You would do anything for him. Even help him get girls...despite how much it hurt you to do so.
You didn’t exactly know how it changed. But one day, as you were sitting in the cafeteria listening to Bucky talk about the presentation that he absolutely killed in AP Biology, you just knew that you loved him in a more romantic way than platonic. There was just something about his eyes and his smile and his humor that got you hooked. Just like how all the girls and guys were hooked on him. But you never stood a chance. You were just his best friend and that was all you would ever be.
____________________
Junior Year of College
You drag yourself out of your bedroom and into the kitchen to see Bucky plating some sausage and eggs, “What’s this?” you sat on the stool next to the counter.
“You got a big test today. Figured you’d need a good breakfast to get your brain waves flowing, ya know?”
You gave your best friend a soft smile as he slid a plate towards you, “You’re the best, you know that?” he gave a shrug and watched you dig into a meal, a fond smile on his face that was only reserved for you and you alone.
He then let out a sigh as he went to cook breakfast for himself and the rest of his roommates, Wanda and Sam. For years, Bucky’s feelings for you have remained strong. He doesn’t know how it happened. He just woke up one morning during high school and got a look at you and he was bit by the lovebug. And it never went away.
As you two grew older, you grew closer and Bucky fell even more head over heels for you. You were so outspoken about the things you were passionate about. You were so determined, resilient, and hardworking. He was in awe of how beautiful, inside and out, you grew up to be. He also cursed that you would never see him the way he saw you especially after he gained the Freshman Fifteen and it didn’t seem to go away. He looked down at his pudgy stomach, hidden by the oversized tee he was wearing.
At one point, he was so ready to tell you how he felt, but then freshman year and all the stress and food happened and, well, now it seems like he’ll never be able to tell you. Why would you wanna go for a guy like him now? He wishes work and school weren’t keeping him so busy. That way, he’d be able to get to a gym and lose all this weight. But he can’t and now it holds a huge weight on his back.
“How do you think you’ll do on midterms?” you asked after swallowing some eggs.
Bucky shrugged and glanced over his shoulder, “I think I studied good enough to at least pass. Passing is what I’m focusing on. I don’t care about getting A’s anymore.”
“C’s get degrees!” you exclaim jokingly and he chuckles, which makes you smile wider, “I think you’ll kill it.”
He nods, “Thanks, Y/N. You’ll do great too. You always do.”
____________________
As soon as you walked out of class post-midterm, you checked your phone to see several tests from Bucky.
Bucket Barnes: finished my test. think i did okay.
Bucket Barnes: you done yet?
Bucket Barnes: lets go celebrate the fact that we survived midterms!
Bucket Barnes: answer meeeeeeee!!!
You giggled as you typed back a response:
You: just got out.
You: wanna drop off my stuff at the apartment and then we can go eat or something.
Bucket Barnes: meet ya there! :D
You rolled your eyes and pocketed your phone. Your apartment was just a bus ride away, so you headed towards the bus stop to take you back home.
When you walked back into your apartment, you found Bucky and Sam currently wrestling on the couch. They paused when they saw you standing there looking amused. They then pushed each other off, rambling on:
“I was trying to watch tv-”
“He just took the remote and changed the channel-”
“-I was watching a nature documentary while waiting for you-”
“-and the show was boring as Hell so I-”
“Enough!” you yelled with a smirk on your face. They stopped and shut their mouths. You chuckled and shook your head, “For adults, you’re such children.” you then went over to your room, tossing your things onto your bed before grabbing your purse, putting your keys, wallet, and phone inside.
You came back out to see Bucky glaring at Sam, “Buck, ready to go?”
His eyes softened as he turned to you, “Yup!” he pushed Sam one last time before following you to the door.
“You kids be safe!” Sam yelled as Bucky closed the door behind him.
You hooked your arm around Bucky’s, leaning into his shoulder, “You guys are such dorks, you know that?”
He shrugged, “He started it.” he glanced at your head, a fluttering feeling going through his stomach that’s then placed with regret. He should’ve told you how he felt before instead of waiting it out.
___________________
You sat across from Bucky slurping up your oreo milkshake, an amused smile on his face as he munched on his fries.
“Happy?” he asked.
You nodded and let out a satisfied sigh, “Aaaah. Very. Nothing makes me happier than an oreo milkshake, and you, of course.” If he only knew how deeper those words meant to you.
“You make me happy too, Y/N.” he glanced behind you and his smile fell.
Immediately recognizing the change, you asked, “What?” you glanced back to see Bucky’s ex, Dot.
She was a toxic person. She and Bucky started dating at the beginning of Freshman year of college. She was always bragging about how smart, strong, nd handsome he was. The thing about having a significant other is that you go out and eat a lot. That along with Freshman Fifteen, well...Dot didn’t like the weight he was gaining.
She made him feel insecure. Ugly. Not good enough. Eventually, she became ashamed of him and broke up with him. What she put him through had lasting effects, thus why Bucky felt like he could never tell you how he felt now. He wasn’t good enough for you.
“Oh God,” Bucky mumbled into his milkshake as Dot came walking by.
She stopped at your table with the fakest smile on her face, “Oh hi, Y/N!” she turned to Bucky and snorted, “Hey, Pudgy.”
“Leave him alone, Dolores,” you sneered.
Her head snapped back to you, “It’s Dot.”
"Whatever, Period. Go bother someone else. Bucky and I were having a good time until you showed up.”
Dot scowled and leaned over to be face to face with Bucky, “Just remember, Chubby, no matter what you do, she would never go for a guy that looked like you.” she straightened up and continued to walk down to the diner, her little clique following her.
Bucky’s shoulders deflated and your heart broke for Bucky, “Do you wanna get outta here?”
Not looking up, Bucky nodded, “Please.”
You then went over to the counter to pay and pulled Bucky along. Your arm looped around with his, “Do you wanna stop by the store and get some comfort food?”
Bucky shook his head, “No. Dot’s right. This,” he pokes at his stomach, “isn’t doing me any good.”
“She’s wrong. Bucky, any girl would be lucky to have you. Dot’s just a bitch.”
“The girl of my dreams doesn’t even want me. So who’s to say that anyone would want me?” he murmured, eyes on the pavement as you continued to walk.
You then stopped, tugging him to halt, “I’m sure whoever this girl is, she’s kind and understanding enough to know that it isn’t what’s on the outside that counts. Who’s the girl?”
“You,” he mumbled, eyes still on the pavement, hands in his pockets.
“Bucky...” you moved closer to him, placing your finger under his chin to get him to look at you, “Hey, you like me?”
You can see the fear in his eyes as he whispered, “I love you, Y/N.”
You grinned at him, “I love you too.”
“Really? Even with-” his hands waved around his stomach and it made you giggle.
“Especially because of that.” you rest your hands onto his shoulders, “You’ve always been my Bucky bear. Now you’re soft and cuddly as a bear too. I’m sorry Dot made you feel like you’re not attractive or worthy enough. But she is so wrong. I’ve loved you, Bucky, since we were in high school. I’ve loved you then and I love you now. Nothing can change that.”
“God, how did I get so lucky?” his hands went to your waist, holding you close.
“I think I’m the lucky one.” you leaned in, pressing a kiss onto his nose and you stepped back, “I think I’ll save the kiss for after our first date, yeah?”
You held out your hand to him and he took it, “I waited for so long to tell you how I felt, to hear you say you felt the same...I guess I can wait a little longer to kiss you.”
You grinned at him, “All good things come to those who wait.”
SoukokuWeek2019 Day 4
Prompts:
Price - Debt and Payment - “Take a good swing at me and everything is even.”
#
Nice, normal mornings weren’t really something that was familiar to the people working at the Armed Detective Agency in Yokohama. So when one such morning rolled around quietly, when suddenly there were no emergencies or extra chores to do and even Dazai was only lazing around on the couch, everyone distrusted it. Immensely. These sort of morning’s always came with too steep a price. In the two hours since the work day started Dazai had caught six people sending prayers to various deities, seen Ranpo case the room, twice, and had been enduring looks from every single person in the office. Even from the Chief! It really wasn’t fair. Dazai had nothing to do with this, and he had, for once, little inclination to stir up trouble.
Though that was suspicious in it’s own right, maybe, so even he was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
And drop it did, about fifteen minutes later, when the door to the office was flung open violently, in a way that hinted at a kick more than an enthusiastic push.  Dazai saw a good amount of people relax, from his vantage point, and then blanch.
He heard the croaked sounds of breaking floor panels and familiar footsteps before he ever caught a glimpse of their surprise visitor. He buried his head more in the couch cushions. No, Chuuya was annoying on the best of days and he didn’t want to get kicked around again for some tiny issue that the Chibi blew out of proportion to compensate his stature.
“Ah, Nakahara-san?”
Weird, Kunikida sounded perplexed.
“Heh?! So you all do know me. Wonderful. So where is the Spoiled Brat?”
Dazai hadn’t heard that nickname in years- what-
“Aaaah- What happened, Nakaha-”
“What do you think, de-tec-tives?”
Dazai had a bad feeling about this. But the conclusion his brain was shoving at him sounded disastrous and he really needed to check it, before he started believing it. So he sat up, made his way over to the opening of the visitor booth and turned to look out into the office.
“Chib-eh?”
Well. Fuck.
Staring back at him was a tiny - and for once he didn't mean his height, though that of course was a fact as well - version of Nakahara Chuuya. A fifteen year old version, to be exact. Same clothes, but short haired once again, and he couldn't see that one scar on his jaw that Chuuya had gotten at 17.
“Fuck me, did you let someone stretch out your skeleton, asshole?”
That pulled Dazai out of his stupor. His response was reflexive as always.
“No, I just think Chibi shrank overnight. I didn't know you wanted to compete for the ‘tiniest microbe’ competition so badly you’d get yourself de-aged Chuuya.”
“I just woke up to a stranger poking me with needles and an older version of your little shackle freaking out. I don’t know what happened, okay?”
A huff, but less aggravated and much more indulging than he had heard it in years. Dazai let a smile slip onto his face.
“Well, Chuuya most probably ran afoul of an ability and now I get a flashback to Mini-Chuuya. Maybe I should send them some flowers? Chuuya gets a lot less cute when he grows… or rather, when he ages. You don't really grow, Chibi, even though I tried watering you.”
“Oh fuck off.”
“Wait what?”
Dazai decided to ignore his coworkers in favour of interacting with a much less jaded version of his ex-partner. Not to mention that Chuuya was actually scared, considering he hadn't risen to half the bait Dazai had slipped into their conversation. It had always been the easiest gauge for his mental state.
And Chuuya must be wondering what the deal was with Dazai at the ADA of all places. Maybe he didn't want to see it right that moment, but he would get the picture soon enough. Dazai didn't want anyone else to see that confrontation.
 So he went and slung an arm around his ex-partner-turned-child-present-partner, ignoring how Chuuya didn't even try to shrug off the contact, and tried to grin at the whole office, all of whom were staring in shock or horror at the scene. Ah, silver linings, those were a thing people prattled on about sometimes, didn't they?
“Well, I guess Chuuya and I will see if I can’t find a rogue de-aging gifted, so we’ll be going-”
“Dazai-kun.”
Dazai stiffened as Fukuzawa-san stepped into the office proper, looking somewhat more severe that usual.
“Ah, yes, Chief?”
“Mori-sensei just informed me that their Executive went missing after a run in with a very curious ability user. It seems he is no longer missing, though.”
Dazai felt the startling and unfamiliar urge to shove Chuuya behind him and hide him from view, even as the 15-year-old stepped forward instead, straightening out and jaw stubbornly set as he stared at the man who fought with Mori on even footing. Not that Chuuya actually knew that.
“I didn’t go fucking missing. And who wants to know that anyway, I don’t answer to you.”
Dazai wasn't aware of whatever face he was making, but it was probably a pained one. A cornered Chuuya was never a good thing. Even now, Dazai could hear the floor creak ominously, and Chuuya was tensing like he was readying himself for a fight. This was… less than ideal.
After a quick moment of contemplation Dazai reached out to pull Chuuya back towards him, hand mostly on his left shoulder, but very deliberately also touching the side of his neck.
“Down boy.”
“Not a dog, Dazai. Two weeks of no names, remember?”
Oh. That made the age Chuuya had been… well, de-aged to much easier to pinpoint.
“Ah, it has been seven years for me, Chuuya. But I’ll be nice and refrain anyways, how’s that?”
A kick against his shin, and then Dazai’s face was pulled down a good foot until it was almost level with Chuuya’s.
“Don’t fucking patronize me, shitty mummy. I’ve been in worse situations and you don’t need to fucking coddle me. You never did before.”
He didn’t so much as blink at the rapid change in perspective.
“Ah, but last time we were both irresponsible teenagers. I’m an adult now and you're still tiny.”
Another kick, hitting the exact same spot with pinpoint accuracy, before Chuuya stepped away and to the side, eyes never leaving the people around them. He smirked.
“I call bullshit. That one over there is younger than me, and considering she has her own desk and a knife that she’s been grasping at for the last five minutes, I doubt this place is any less of one that employs children.”
The grin turned wolfish as he met Kyoka’s gaze head on. “And I’ve definitely killed more people than her. You're not coddling her. So you can shove your adult responsibilities up your ass.”
Again, both of them ignored the offended gasps and exclamations from their audience. Dazai had to admit they weren’t used to that. He didn’t call them out either, and didn't want to be called out for his own hypocrisy any more than them. But Chuuya had always been blunt and sharp-edged at the same time.
So a rueful sigh was the only reaction Dazai allowed himself.
“Very well, Chuuya. But fighting’s still not in the plan right now.”
“Quite right.” Fukuzawa interrupted whatever Chuuya had had to say to that, and gave them both a quelling look. Thankfully Chuuya only glared, uttering a “Tch,” before falling silent and focussing on Fukuzawa-san as well.
“Nakahara-kun. I will inform Mori-sensei of your whereabouts. Considering your temporal displacement, you might be under considerable stress, so I will negotiate terms with him to have Dazai and you stay together and for the ADA to take on your case to reverse whatever happened to you.” His gaze shifted to Dazai, who felt himself straighten, relief coursing through him. “Dazai-kun, please show Nakahara-kun to our infirmary. We should at least make sure that there is no unexpected strain on him.”
And then the white-haired man turned on his heel to step back into the hallway.
“Eeeh?” Chuuya fixed another glare at Dazai. “What is he-”
“Chuuya.”
The redhead narrowed his eyes at the taller man. “Urgh. Fine. I don’t want to stay near an audience anyway.”
That was as much of a concession as Dazai could hope for, not that it meant that Chuuya had surrendered to whatever plan the people around him were making. Dazai knew that with a surety that came from years of being stuck next to Chuuya in these sorts of situations. So he led the way towards the infirmary and Yosano-san, and hoped against hope that it wouldn't blow up in everyone’s faces. After a few steps, a third set of those made themselves known, and both of them turned around, almost simultaneously. The little out-of-synch movements were a stark reminder that this wasn’t his Chuuya- his time’s Chuuya. They came face-to-face with Kunikida, glaring and pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“I do not believe leaving you alone with a Mafia execute is a good idea, Dazai-kun. For your safety and ou-”
Dazai threw a quelling look at his partner. He really didn’t need Kunikida to give Chuuya more information on what the situation was like. It would complicate things immensely and-
“Oh come off it.” Chuuya swatted at Dazai with a hand and shook his head.
“I don't have the full picture but you've obviously left m- the mafia. I’m an executive and that guy is your new partner. And we’ve had run-ins that were less than friendly. I won't be here that long, so I don't much care because for now you’re a somewhat more annoying version of my partner as far as i'm concerned, so don't sweat it, okay?”
Abort. Deflect.
“Chuuya is really giving his brain a workout today, are you sure you won't drop dead from exertion?”
A quicksilver grin as Chuuya gave him the finger. “You’re the one with no stamina to speak of, spoiled brat. That's the whole reason why you can't call me names, remember? OR are you getting amnesiac in your old age?”
The grin that took over Dazai’s face then was completely involuntary, for the record. And he got a pleased little grin in return as Chuuya noted that yes, Dazai remembered quite well. But then Chuuya’s expression hardened as he looked back to Kunikida.
“You wanna come, you walk in front of us. You obviously trust Dazai, but I don't trust you at my back, mullet-man. Not even if shitty Dazai does.”
In the face of one person already on the verge of a conniption, and the looming threat of Yosano-sensei, Dazai was actually loath to poke Chuuya by admitting that he had grown his hair out to at least resemble a mullet in the furthest sense as well.
Instead, he took a few steps, laid a hand on Kunikida’s shoulder and then dragged and pushed him towards the infirmary in front of Chuuya.
#
Yosano caught one glimpse of the Chi- of Chuuya and slammed the door in Kunikida’s face. Dazai genuinely didn't know who had the funnier reaction: Kunikida, who was squawking something about decorum and basic curtesy, or Chuuya, who stared and then started laughing. Dazai was probably the only human in existence who could see the flash of calculation that made Chuuya’s eyes glow before the redhead, seemingly impulsively, started cackling and jeering about scared old ladies.
And it was effective. Chuuya knew as well as Dazai did how to coax people into certain reactions. For Dazai, it was a learned skill he used in accord with his observational abilities - he was brilliant at figuring out exactly what to say, but Chuuya got people. And an impertinent teenager calling her old? Yosano-san hauled them all into the room after less than ten seconds of loud taunting.
What followed was a rapid fire check-up that went over surprisingly smoothly, considering that Chuuya didn’t know her and had never taken well to strangers prodding him, and that Yosano-san only ever interacted with him the time he had attacked their hide-out. It was a less than ideal situation for a cordial visit. But the two of them spoke little, and interacted mostly through gestures and nods and really, it almost seemed like they had come to an understanding right under Dazai’s nose without making it apparent in any way. How had they done that?
But then they were done, and Yosano swept out of the room, “to update Fukuzawa-san on the situation”, and Kunikida and Dazai both stared after her. Chuuya apparently hadn’t felt the need to do the same, because he was flopped down on the bed and had pulled out a phone he was holding above his head and by all appearances engrossed in.
Kunikida fell for it like the utter fool he was. Dazai almost wanted to shake his head, but then again, most people didn't expect a 16 year old to deliberately thump his nose at them or try to aggravate him. And Kunikida would see the child before the 16 year old mafia member and mass-murder weapon just because he was lounging around, playing on a phone and affecting a careless attitude. Chuuya had learned exactly how to take advantage of people’s misconceptions. He’d routinely seen Dazai pull the same move, after all.
“Are you not the least bit cornered about your situation, young man?”
Moments like these, Dazai could see exactly what the math teacher had been like once upon a time. He had a certain “adult-to-child” demeanour that was, if Dazai was being honest, and he always tried to be so as little as possible, very aggravating.
“‘Course not. The boss can’t stand missing an executive and the mummy misses the older me- I’ll essentially cease to exist as soon as they find whoever did this. And that won’t take long with the port mafia on the job.”
“Do not talk so casually about death!”
Chuuya turned his face towards the blonde man. “Your partner was literally humming that bloody suicide song of his when I arrived.”
“Dazai should never be a standard to which to hold yourself-”
“I fucking know. Get off your high horse, mullet-man. I’m not suicidal, I’m realistic. And I haven’t ever seen that waste of bandages as someone I wanted to be like in any capacity.”
“Aww, Chuuya, you’re hurting my feelings!”
“Fuck off, Dazai, you don’t have feelings that can get hurt.”
It was telling how complacent Dazai had gotten within the ADA when it took honest effort to suppress the minute twitch at that. Kunikida seemed too just get more aggravated.
“Now-”
“Oh please. You may know this version but Dazai is still the same shithead who manipulated my friends into stabbing me in the back and also literally stabbing me just so he could get a minion of his own.”
Blue eyes glared into Dazai’s direction. “Not to mention that he also decided that clumsily flirting with me would be a good idea afterwards because he had no people skills and wanted an obedient little housewife and attack dog in one.”
Kunikida sputtered. Dazai just wasn’t sure what to think of Chuuya airing out their past in front of his current partner. Especially because the blonde started muttering something mostly unintelligible, and the only words Dazai caught were something to do with “straight” and “terrible” and Dazai really didn’t care to know exactly what made Chuuya chuckle at that. He could extrapolate it anyways, thank you very much, especially when Chuuya calmed down and shook his head at the former math teacher.
“You guys completely fell for his shitty obfuscation didn't you. Figures.” And then a mean little grin spread over his face.
“I was his first kiss.”
And when Kunikida, predictably (really, Dazai needed to teach his partner something about composure in the face of obvious distractions. Then again, he had never needed to teach that before) lost his calm once more, Dazai was all to aware that Chuuya’s grin was a mirror image to his own.
Chuuya had picked up a lot just by watching him. And Kunikida’s denials continued, much too Chuuya’s obvious amusement. “Ya’think the guy knew other people he’d get into a five foot radius off? Fuck no.”
And that, apparently, was too much for the blonde’s brain, because it evidently gave up on processing anything it had been occupied with for the last minutes, to instead fixate on Chuuya’s vocabulary.
“Language.”
“Fuck you I lived on the streets for 7 years.”
Dazai now really wanted to laugh at the way Kunikida turned purple, but Kunikida might implode if he did that, so instead he raised an eyebrow at the sixteen-year-old and raised an eyebrow. He was met with a sharp grin.
“I don’t think most girls will appreciate that sort of language.”
Chuuya’s head turned so quickly towards the blonde again that Dazai almost got whiplash, and the face Chuuya wore was one of utter bewilderment.
“I literally just told you that I own Dazai’s first kiss. I’m fucking gay, what the fuck would I care what some civilian chick thinks about me?”
Dazai still tried, but now he really couldn't hold back his laughter. Oh, that was precious.
 And that was the scene that Yosano arrived back to: Chuuya glaring incredulously as Kunikida squawked and Dazai laughed at the whole situation.
#
Chuuya was remarkably quiet and almost… well, not exactly docile but definitely more agreeable than expected as they made their way out of the ADA and as Dazai started herding him towards Dazai’s own flat. He was not going to leave him out of his sight, and he had sensibly decided not to think about the reasons for that.
The calm lasted until they had turned three corners and Chuuya dragged Dazai along in two consecutive loops, executed to catch any possible tails and really, Dazai fell into step with Chuuya way too easily. It had been a habit before they both turned 18, to shake any tails and trip up Hirotsu when they wanted less supervision.
It was plain discomfiting. Everything was nostalgic in ways that bothered Dazai. The Mafia had been horrible, and still was. But these weren’t bad memories. Ambivalent mostly, though he couldn't help a certain fondness when it came to the pure life that Chuuya exuded as 16, arrogant and confident and settled into a space that he could fit himself into.
Seeing him like this, Dazai only just realised how much the PM had broken his partner in the later years. He knew how it had broken himself, but he hadn't been watching closely enough to see the same thing happen to Chuuya.
Evidently though, it had.
Just for a moment he wondered how much he himself had contributed to that. But that almost made him want to throw up, so he turned towards the currently 16 year-old to start some other nonsensical discussion and met Chuuya’s own narrow-eyed stare.
“What is she going to want?”
“Huh?”
Chuuya levelled a glare at Dazai. “The Doc Lady. You said you trust her with your life, but you also said she is an acquaintance,” Chuuya affected air quotes, “of the boss’s.”
“Chuuya, Yosano-san’s not like that.”
That had come out more placating than Dazai had intended. And Chuuya, understandably, growled at that.
“Bull. Ane-san said it's... like, Debt and Payment. It's a ‘principle of human interaction.’ And seriously, you know as well as I do that His acquaintances never do shit for free.”
Dazai hummed noncommittally as he steered them around another corner, smoothly avoiding the police outpost on that street.
“Yosano-Sensei is possibly the person least likely to ever become one of Mori’s typical acquaintances, Chuuya. There is quite a bit of bad blood there, from what I have gathered.”
And incredulous look.
“What, you haven’t gone snooping and gotten your hands on the whole story? When did you grow a sense of respect for other people’s privacy?”
“Imagine trying to spy on Ane-san, Chuuya.”
That single sentence made both of them wince as they looked at each other out of the corners of their eyes. If he had been a lesser man, Dazai would have shuddered. Spying on Ozaki Kouyou was as good as signing a warrant for eternal torture- not death, but unending, eternal torture. Dazai was not a fan.
“Fact is, Yosano-Sensei may know Mori, but she is not the type to ask for payment from a 16 year old. Maybe it will be different once you are back… to an older age, but I doubt you will care all that much.”
There was a huff.
“Alright, we’ll see.”
“Aww, doesn’t Chuuya trust me?”
The bristling came as no surprise, even as Dazai made sure to smile extra-irritatingly.
“Not as far as I can throw you, shitty mummy. You know that.”
Dazai shrugged. “Well, you are here.”
“Because there is nowhere else to go! At least you’re honest with your fucking shady shit.”
The brunette stopped and rolled his eyes. “Of course, Chuuya, but I did mean that you are here- this is my apartment building.”
Chuuya stared up the clean, if somewhat old high rise and raised an eyebrow.
“You’ve really moved up in the world, now, haven’t you,” he quipped, voice laced heavily with sarcasm. Dazai very obviously bend down a little to smile at him. “Well, since Chuuya never went up all that much I did have an advantage, didn’t I?”
He got a rude gesture for his trouble and a quick hand snatched the keys and stomped inside.
“Fuck off!”
Dazai trailed after the teenager, smug grin firmly settled on his face until they both were in the elevator and Dazai pressed the button to his floor. It was a quick ride, and then Dazai made a beeline for his door and was overtaken by Chuuya as soon as he had discerned which door Dazai was heading towards. He let them both in.
The apartment Dazai lived in was the complete opposite of his staff-cleaned room in the Port Mafia. After two years in hiding that had been intentional. Possibly the most deliberate decision he had made during those years. It wasn’t vast or clean-cut, it wasn’t a stylish combo of monotone colours and the lights and window blinds weren’t automated.
Not to mention that he had to take out his own trash which… he should have done two days ago, judging by the state of his overflowing bin.
And he knew he had a spare futon somewhere because Yosano had gotten a new one for her place and the old one hadn’t been threadbare yet… he just wasn’t sure where exactly it was.
Chuuya, evidently completely unbothered by the state of Dazai’s flat, had slipped off his shoes and made his way down the hallway meanwhile to peer into every room until he found the kitchen. And he’d already found the Onigiri Dazai had planned on having for dinner, as well as two cans of canned crab from his emergency stash.
When Dazai entered the room, Chuuya wordlessly shoved the cans at him and proceeded to dog into his Onigiri and Dazai very belatedly remembered that Chuuya had been a bottomless pit during his teenage years. He didn't even know if that had changed. He made a face at the redhead.
“Were you not planning on eating me out of house and home, Chuuya?”
“Fuck off, I’m hungry, and tired and its not even 6. You don't have shit to cook and I’m not going outside again. You’ll just drag me along into another disaster.”
“I think Chuuya is the disaster out of the two of us.”
Chuuya snorted.
“Yeah right. That little assassin girl was great at detailing exactly how much shit you get up to while you were talking to that boss of yours.” A click of his tongue and a bite as he watched Dazai sit down opposite him. “Seems to me like you just walk from one shitshow into the next ever since you left the PM.”
Dazai took a very deliberate bite of his crab.
“Shitshows are universal when you’re around ability users, Chuuya.”
The redhead rolled his eyes at him.
“Oh fuck off with your evasive bullshit. I already said I don’t care, didn't I? I know exactly what the Port Mafia is like.”
Dazai stared at him for a moment. Maybe this version didn't care, but his partner did.
It had been overly blatant during both their reunion in the basement and during the Lovecraft debacle. Dazai just hadn’t noticed that he had been stepping on someone’s trust at the same time. Words didn’t matter. And neither did words spoken as Chuuya slumped over in exhaustion. Those were negligible. But that his partner, a version of his partner that didn’t know him half as well too, had chosen to come to him when faced with a situation that could have had multiple available solutions?
It drove home what Chuuya had already said a few times. He did trust Dazai. Not just in the “we have to work together and you’re my ball and chain and you won’t let me level the city” kind of way, but genuinely trusted him to search him out in a vulnerable situation.
Dazai swallowed another bite and got up, making a deliberately stupid little wave at Chuuya and made his way out of the room to find the second futon.
This wasn’t something to think about now, when Chuuya watched him closely enough that he might even be able to decipher Dazai’s thoughts.
Older Chuuya and his preconceived notions was much easier to lead around the nose.
He ignored the catty “coward” comment that drifted after him.
Dazai’s phone rang at 3 a.m. that night.
Chuuya had sat up straight on his futon before Dazai even turned to the side to reach for it, a dark, lanky silhouette in the room that was only illuminated by the sliver of a waxing moon.
He picked up the phone and accepted the call from a blocked number. And really, at this time, there were very few people that would call him.
“Dazai-kun.”
“Mori-san!” Dazai chirped, deliberately chipper, as he watched Chuuya tense and straighten. “What seems to be the problem at this hour?”
“I do fear for your intellect, if you cannot deduce it from the situation, Dazai-kun. But very well. We have found the hiding place of the ability user that affected Chuuya-kun, so we would be very happy if you could make your way there post haste.”
“Ah, but it is very early, Mori-san, don’t you think?”
“Fukuzawa-dont has assured me that you will be happy to help and resolve this issue as soon as possible, Dazai-kun.“
Dazai sighed. There was little he could do to stall for time in this. And with the way Chuuya was up and grabbing the day clothes at his side, he knew so as well.
He suppressed another sigh. “Very well, Mori-san, send me the address and we will make our way there.”
He almost grinned the pause that followed.
“You might remember Chuuya at 16, Mori-san, I won’t be able to keep him from going without grievous harm to myself and we both know I would rather avoid that.”
“Very well. See that you don’t dawdle,” came the terse reply, and then the call broke off. Dazai pouted slightly at his phone. Mori could really bet indescribably rude.
And still, he rolled out of bed and made his way towards his wardrobe, pulling out a somewhat darker attire than he regularly wore nowadays.
When going into an area undoubtedly swarming with Port Mafia goons though, he was very much conscious that this would make it just a little easier for him to blend in and keep the tension at a minimum. Not really necessary normally, but he was walking in there without any sort of back-up this time.
Dazai went into the bathroom after Chuuya came out, completely dressed and hair still wet, but not dripping all over the place like Dazai sometimes left his own.
And fifteen minutes later they were stepping outside again, heading towards the nearest subway station as some other blocked number send him coordinates. The train ride was filled with a mostly tense silence, with Chuuya obviously caught up in his own thoughts and Dazai trying to puzzle out whom he would have to deal with in the next half hour. Hirotsu was almost a given, but he didn’t know whether Mori would send Akutagawa and Gin-chan just to complicate matters or if he would not, to facilitate a quick and successful mission.
It was a bit of a toss-up, and as such not something Dazai was particularly happy about.
When they did get out at their final station, they both noticed the suited men waiting for them at the street corner. Dazai only just caught the undecipherable look that Chuuya send in his direction before they met up with the men and were lead down a few alleyways, only to stop in front of what looked like a shop in the middle of renovations, and one that was awfully quiet.
“Huh, is the show over already?”
A familiar voice reached them from the door. “Dazai-kun, Nakahara-kun. You’ve missed the exciting part.”
Hirotsu-san stepped out a minute later, looking as unruffled as always, even in the face of a way-too-often-seen traitor and a de-aged superior.
The older man gestured for them to step inside.
“We’ve already captured the ability user, and Mori-sama was asking for a quick resolution of the matter, so if you would, Dazai-kun?”
Dazai hummed and turned to look at his de-aged partner, feeling his smile turn... weird on his face.
“Well, Chuuya, that was a very short-term solution to your fear of aging, don’t you think?”
“At least I don’t dress like a grandpa, half the time, you fucking waste of bandages.”
A sharp grin and a shove that did make Dazai stumble, even though he had seen it coming.
“Now go and resolve this fucking mess, you procatinating disaster.”
“Stop trying to order me around brat, you’Re to tiny to look down on me.”
But Dazai went and turned around, walking past the row of grunts and Hirotsu to stand in front of the obviously unconscious man. It was a male, most probably over 40, lying in the dirt and obviously at least somewhat post-torture. Dazai couldn’t find it in himself to feel bad for him. He’d attacked Chuuya after all. And speaking of Chuuya-
“Just a minute.“
“Chuuya-kun?”
Hirotsu’s face looked vaguely disapproving as the teenager ran past the goons and right at Dazai, who, really, had expected this. Chuuya would want to get in at least one hit, he’d known that.
But then, suddenly, Chuuya was right in his face, and Dazai knew that look. It was stubborn and fixated on him and really, it felt nice to be looked at like that. Like someone wanted him. Like someone cared.
It felt a lot less nice when he considered that this was an out-of-his-depth sixteen-year-old who had latched onto him for all the wrong reasons.
Dazai didn‘t want this Chuuya. He had outgrown this Chuuya when Chuuya himself had outgrown that age. He still liked the boy, loved him, maybe, but in a distant sort of way. Like a memory, perhaps, and definitely not in a way that would make him comfortable kissing a teenager. Especially with all these people around him.
So he stepped back. And, really, the look the boy gave him was… it hurt Dazai possibly almost as much as it seemed to hurt Chuuya. But this was the right thing to do. The thing Oda would have nodded his head and smiled at him for.
But Chuuya’s face… Dazai crossed the distance he had put between them himself and hugged the redhead.
There were… so many things he could have said, but none felt adequate because, in the end, Chuuya had been right. This version of him would cease to exist- would, for lack of a better word, die. And though they both had always been more than familiar with the harsh reality of their own mortality, it still had to be scary.
So he hugged his younger partner and felt gratified, maybe and slightly humbled, as he felt the smaller male hug him back and bury his pale face in Dazai’s vest. And then Dazai reached back with the other arm to blindly grasp the forearm of Chuuya’s attacker.
There was a shocked gasp, and a cut-off yell, and something pulsed in Dazai’s arms before the rapidly aging body crumpled to the floor, heavier than Dazai could manage to hold up with one arm. Instead he went down with him, kneeling as he tried to lay Chuuya down gently, head cushioned on his lap.
Just from the way his jaw was clenched Chuuya was almost certain that Chuuya was living through a condensed amount of growing pains. Of course he wouldn’t scream. Both Dazai and Chuuya had learned very, very early on in their mafia careers that screaming often only made things worse.
And then Chuuya‘s hair was back at normal length, slightly wet looking and Dazai would bet that Chuuya would take a 30 minute shower the moment he got back to his own home.
Most people would have stayed unconscious after something like this. Chuuya woke up half a minute later, scowl on his face and eyes narrowed.
“Fuck that was a fucked up trip.”
“Well, if Chuuya hadn’t decided he wanted to try out the newest de-aging treatment this could have all been avoided, but Chuuya’s brain is possibly too small to think of the consequences.”
Dazai knew that it wasn’t his best work. Really, he did, but the actually amused snort his partner made was just about worth it.
He didn’t stop the Chibi from sitting up, didn’t try to help because that would have just resulted in a fist in his face, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave just yet either.
He should have. Dazai knew he should have, but it just wasn’t something he was willing to do right this second. With a certain amount of absentmindedness he noted that Chuuya didn’t seem to want to stand up just yet either, was resting back on his hands and staring up at the ceiling.
Dazai managed to do the same thing for one, strangely peaceful moment as well, and then he was caught off guard the second time in the last fifteen minutes as Chuuya, once again, decided to get right into his personal space.
He was clutching at Dazai’s collar again, the brunette noticed vaguely, as he stared into still narrowed blue eyes.
It wasn’t the same soft look the sixteen-year-old version had levelled at him. It was harder, more bitter and held a wealth of history but at least it was really Chuuya’s. And so were the words.
“You don’t get to pull away and deny me after you coddled me this whole day, bastard.”
Chuuya kissed him before he had really processed the words.
All things considered, it was one of the chaster kisses between them, but Dazai could feel his blood rushing towards his face anyway. They were in public. Hirotsu of all people was standing not 10 meters behind them and the first thing Chuuya did after a day under the influence of a quirk was kiss him? When had he stopped being capable of predicting the Chibi?
Dazai kept sitting on the floor when Chuuya stopped pressing their lips together and stood, barking orders at the Port Mafia members surrounding them. And then he swivelled around to glare at Dazai and point a finger at him as Dazai finally started to stand up.
“And don’t you fucking vanish! We need to talk about some things. I’ll come by tonight, and don't you try avoiding me. I need to go do fucking paperwork now.“
Dazai stared at the tiny whirlwind that was his partner and sighed. Really, today was already not his day. He had just been planning to hide on the Agency’s sofa for a while. So, really, he didn't feel like having a talk with Chuuya. Those always ended with a bloody nose, even if you could talk and blackmail himself out of everything. The grin he affected was, Dazai admitted to himself, deliberately shady.
“Ahh, Chibi, how about this: You take a good swing at me and everything is even right now, so you don’t have to come and search me out later.”
To be honest, it was kind of impressive that Chuuya had even heard him over the ruckus the Mafia Goons were making around them. But he evidently did? Because he sent an exasperated glare into Dazai’s direction.
“Are you fucking… Urgh.” Then he took Dazai’s wrist and dragged him out of the room and down the hall, ignoring Dazai’s questions in favour of looking at doors and finally pulling both of them into something that looked like an office. The door was shut with a kick, and then Chuuya was in Dazai’s personal space, hands coming up to grip at his shirt collar and pulling Dazai down until their foreheads were almost touching.
“Listen to me for once in your goddamn life, Mackerel. What you did was decent. Really, fucking decent, ok? I know, you're on the side of the light and all that blah blah blah. But I didn't expect shit as a 16 year-old. You would have had an easier time not trying to coddle and protect me from your own friends. No one would have blamed you. You wouldn't have done so at any other time. So there's something that actually changed. I didn't think so before, and somehow I think you didn't either. So take this situation as proof, got it?”
Dazai thought back to leaving Chuuya, exhausted from corruption, lying on a battlefield. Thought of a sixteen year old version not even shrugging off his arm, as Chuuya let go of him and stepped back a tiny bit.
Then Dazai felt a punch on his shoulder, much less painful that it could have been and shifted his focus to stare into Chuuya’s eyes.
“We have more to talk about. I mean what I said. Be home tonight. I’ll hunt you down if you’re not, but you wont like it.” Dazai made a show of pouting.
“Ah, but who says I like Chuuya near me at any time? You’re annoying, Chibi.”
A snort, utterly amused. Oh. That was… not the intended reaction.
“Yeah, try selling that to someone who didn’t see you light up when I was talking about our little bets and who didn’t see you shuffle around your whole living space just to keep me near you. You know as well as I do that there are more than enough places that you could have shipped me off to, but you didn’t.”
“That’s because no one knew whether the ability would have adverse effects on your control, so of course it was safer to keep you supervised, Chuuya.”
Dazai was trying - really, really, trying - to extricate himself out of whatever this situation was starting to devolve into. But Chuuya wasn’t rising to his bait, wasn’t even huffing or stomping off, and all of that made Dazai decidedly less certain what he was dealing with now.
Not that he got another chance to try and get back into familiar waters when Chuuya just grinned at him, and then turned to strut out of the door.
Dazai let his head fall back to stare at the ceiling once more. He needed to get a grip. And then he needed to figure out exactly what had happened in the last two days and what had changed.
This was important. But for now he would make his way home and bury himself in his futon. It was too early to deal with such a weird day.
The Kapok Tree
Part 3, Chapter 2 (cw: othering of indigenous humans)
My trip to the rainforest began immediately after I stepped between the trees and saw the incredible variety in flora and fauna around me; from snakes to monkeys, beautiful flowers and ants carrying leaves three times their size; trees so tall that only a few slivers of light came from the sun. Even then, with all that shadow, it was amazing to think how hot the whole place was!
Of course, I took out that trinket you gave me, Fri. I didn't want to stop to rest so soon; I figured I would find food without trouble. And I did! But that will come later.
I took out the flower and that part with the petals spun around in place; it almost cut its own stem. Of course, I let it go! I thought I had broken it, and I didn't want my precious memento simply to break at the first opportunity.
Anyway, the matter is that the flower fell on the floor standing. Standing! Every other time I held a flower in my mouth it laid on the floor like that, but not this one. I'm sure you did it on purpose, Fri.
The thing is, the flower had stopped moving and it pointed up. Up. Think about it. I thought it was broken because that would mean that there was a dragon flying above me right now and I remembered no dragon besides Ash that can just fly in place like that.
SO! I looked above me just in case, and you know, there she was! An awkward looking dragon stared down at me from above, and, don't you know it, she goes all "Aaaah!" and falls on top of me.
Well, that hurt, but I knew that I had the battle advantage with this poison, and all. Besides, I had my handy tail, which, I don't know if I've told you before, it's unusually flexible. Right? Yeah, I told you. I know you don't believe me because you've not seen me use it, but I'll have you know that it's true.
Anyway! The dragon had hurt itself in the process, right? I mean, the assault couldn't have been on purpose. She would've attacked me earlier. Yeah? So, all I could say was, "HEY! CAN YOU PLEASE GET OFF ME?"
Not exactly gracious, but it did the job.
So the dragon was getting off me faster than you can tell Ash to shut up, and she was all like, "Sorry, sorry, sorry! I wasn't trying to attack you or anything!" That's when my suspicions were confirmed. This dragon was not trying to attack me.
With that out of the way, the obvious next step was asking what their name was, and I didn't really listen properly, but I decided I'd call them Mamba, just because there was this creepy snake that was looking at me and I remember Tuga had walked me across the river to around here, and pointed to that snake and said, "That's a 'something' Mamba."
"A black Mamba, Joy," said Tuga.
Sorry, Tuga! Who's telling the story? So, the thing is, I just went ahead and I said, "Well, hello, Mamba, I'm going to forgive you this time around for falling on top of me and not completely melt your face off," because that's the polite thing to do when you're the better dragon.
Of course, they were complaining, "My name's not Mamba! It's---" I didn't care! You know, Mamba's just a far better name. Right, so I figured it was time for me to leave and recruit some dragons. But you know, That Was A Dragon.
Right. I haven't told you how they looked. So Mamba's this big black plush of a dragon that couldn't hurt anyone, like, completely unlike me, eating scavengers for breakfast. Hey, Tija should've told you how she found me. I took down like, one adult dragon that was trying to kill me for being in their property? I'm not sure. I should ask her, actually. Thing is, I'm a warrior, you snakes.
Anyway, this lady had these beautiful colorful rainbow wings I hadn't seen ANYWHERE ELSE in the WHOLE CONTINENT. I mean I'm a bit ashamed that they faded out once her chameleon scales came in but you know, it served her well; saved our lives quite a few times.
I haven't gotten to that part yet, so let me tell you more about Mamba. We had a bit of a long discussion about wanting to, you know, get the continent dominated and all of that, that we, a band of like, what, one, two, three... Whatever! A few dragons, had completely taken over that settlement near the river?
Mamba was impressed! I told her all about how I was melting down scavengers to the ground with Ash, and it had been so easy with Astra coordinating us all, so---
"Hey," said Fri. "I was the one delivering the messages."
Yeah, sure, you were. Okay Mamba doesn't know about you yet Fri, but that's because I had completely blocked you from my mind at that point. I just didn't want to think like, "Oh no, I made Fri feel miserable." It's just not in my head at that moment, so I just erased you.
"Well that's nice," said Fri.
I said Sorry!
So, Mamba said, "Well I'll stick around with you and see what you can do then!" I mean, don't quote me on that, I think it was something more among the lines of, "Oh I need to see that," or whatever. She started following me around until we found a weird white line drawn in the dirt? It wasn't natural, is what I'm saying. Mamba stopped me and told me, "You better be cautious, you!" or something like that, and I of course asked why.
"Well," they were saying, "There's humans there that can take down a dragon with a single blowdart," she said.
At that point I didn't know what a blowdart was, but I figured it was a very massive weapon like those Tija always warns us about. I thought if I didn't get close, I was going to be okay, you know?
So, I shook it off and told Mamba to stop worrying so much. But no, she insisted, "No, you must listen to me!" She was very dramatic, you know. I was completely ready to listen to her and be cautious, but I apparently wasn't being careful enough for them.
Okay I did underestimate them a bit, because there was this human at the top of the tree that Mamba pointed me to, and it was sneaky sneaky hiding at the top of the trees. At that point I figured I might trust my new friend, since they seem to know better about what was happening in the rainforest.
I was a bit oblivious! So I asked them, "So where do you sleep?" And their answer was ridiculous! It was like, "I sleep on top of the trees." Fri, I remember the last time I slept on top of a tree and it was terrible.
"I can't really stay on the top of a tree for any longer than an hour," said Fri.
I know, right? Mamba insisted it was no big deal once you got used to it and that these huge trees had branches that were actually really comfortable. I asked them if they really meant it, and Mamba just gave me this incredibly annoying snicker and said, "Well, newcomer, let me show you." Argh. Complete showoff.
So, we walked in the rainforest for a bit, at Mamba's suggestion because she said that she's seen dragons literally rain from the sky because they were dumb enough to fly above human territories. I asked her what they do with them and she told me I didn't want to know. So, I shrugged, and followed her to this stupid big tree. She said it was a Caboc? Catoc? Katok. Oh, Kapok. So, this tree was supernaturally tall, and it had these big branches that a dragon could comfortably sit in.
Okay, that's how Mamba described it, but did I mention it was tall? I think I did. When I thought tall I thought, "Oh, maybe it's a few dragons in size." I was wrong. Only the trunk was big enough to house all of us if you were to make a hole in it, but of course that's a bad idea; the tree would fall over and nobody would want to deal with that huge a tree falling on their heads.
The thing is, we had to fly to climb this thing. We circled around the tree in this spiral motion for a surprising amount of time. Those branches seemed far closer at a distance. You know, I figured Mamba was doing this a few times a day, so I asked her, "Hey, do you do this trip many times a day?"
I'm not saying Mamba was being mean, but she laughed at my face like, "Why are you asking that?" Well, I explained that I thought that it would be tiring, but she just replied to me with, "You're making a bigger deal of this than it really is."
I thought, Whaaaat? How can they just do this trip that often? It was far above what our little cave in the mountain was, Tuga. How did we fail to see this? I still can't get over it, it was huge.
We reached the top of the tree, obviously, I wasn't about to quit just because of a tougher than usual flight to an uncomfortable height. The thing was, Mamba had friends waiting for her on the branches and they were sleeping way too comfortably. I mean, uncomfortably comfortable for me. Imagine being up this mythically tall tree and you see someone like you just letting their limbs hang to the sides of the branch with their bellies completely laying on the wood. Imagine you have like, a twitch during the night and just like that, you're now about to fall to your death because you lost balance.
I thought they were extremely brave or extremely, extremely dumb.
You'd think I'd notice that Mamba had been carrying all this fruit with them, right? Wrong. There it was, Mamba just laid it on a small nest they'd made. Like birds? Can you imagine that? Dragon birds.
Speaking of, there was this weird bird with a rainbow-colored beak that was twice the size of its body, and it was there, perched on a tree like everything is fine in the world.
Anyway, Mamba went ahead and woke both of her friends up. They were these weird... colors that were like, imagine that if you looked at them from a certain angle, they changed colors? They were dark, but if you looked at them from a certain point they were a bit blue, or a bit purple or something like that. It was very pretty! I was somewhat jealous, and I didn't notice that I was turning from my usual shade to like, green.
At that point Mamba gasped at me and said, "Perching sloths! You can change colors like that?"
I wasn't sure if I was going to explain that Fri enchanted me? I figured we would go along with the plan and depend on the flower, so I explained carefully, "Yes, this magic flower did it," and she... She just squawked and almost fell off her branch cackling! I mean, I guess she didn't believe me? Well, I insisted, "Look! Just stay near this flower, it's going to do the magic thing and," well, the flower interrupted me, sort of.
You see the flower pointed at her two friends by spinning around because I had left it on the nest. Mamba saw that and was staring at it, because, I quote, "How can a flower do that!?"
I explained myself again and said the flower was magical, at that point they were like, "Okay but how can I receive the enchantment, then?"
She was jealous, too, I thought. But yeah, I remember that part of the enchantment was that the flower would act as fast as they could be convinced that they could change, or whatever. So, I figured I'd tell them, "Um, well, convince yourself that the flower can do it, I think." I figured she might not believe me this time either, so I added, "That's what I did!"
Of course, as you know, that's not what I did at all.
Mamba pressed the tip of her claws against her head and was making a silly face and repeating a mantra. "I believe, I believe, I believe," she said, unconvinced.
Well, I know my magic now, and that wasn't going to work. I wasn't sure then, so I just said, "Nah! You have to sound convinced, not just act like it."
She hemmed at me and went serene, closing her eyes wide and sitting there, completely still. I wish I could hear her internal monologue because at that point it was like all of her scales had become wet? Or something like that? Like, picture someone's scales dissolving from black to indigo. It's really something special.
Mamba at that point opened her eyes and looked at herself and almost ignored the fact that it was changing colors again to violet. It was a surprise! How'd someone just change their minds like that so quickly? But I wasn't about to let her feel like a freak, so I changed my color to match hers.
"Look! We're both violet!" I said.
She was changing her surprise at her own colors into some expression I couldn't decipher at all, but she was turning yellow. Mamba then told me, "Wow! Hey, what did you say your name was?"
Who even brings someone to their home and then asks their name? Well I told her; I was Joy. She looked at her own wings and noticed her rainbow-colored membrane was gone. It was a bit of a bummer, but it's like her body had absorbed the rainbow in her wings. I think I don't feel that bad about it.
She looked a bit disappointed nonetheless, but you could see her making the tradeoffs in her head. I explained to her, "Hey, at least you got this poison thing I have as well."
So Mamba touched her own face and noticed the two little fangs at the front, and freaked out a bit. "What happened to me?"
I explained how it works, and how it could very much melt organic things.
Okay so, I think I've made some poor choices at this point, but I wanted to demonstrate how it worked, right? I mean, it made sense. So I told her to look and that I'd show her how it works, and I went to the base of the branch and let some of the poison eat at the base of it.
Mamba obviously saw through my bad idea; the poison acid death spit was eating through the wood and Mamba just screamed, "No! Don't do that!"
That's what she would have said if she had actually finished her sentence, she actually just said, "No! Do---AAAAAH!"
We both were falling, and there a huge freaking tree branch underneath us and there were leaves falling and a few angry birds pecking at us. Ah! We all make mistakes sometimes!
We're dragons though, so we both opened our wings and climbed right back up. We perched on another, smaller branch a bit above that one, and Mamba gave me this strong look while she turned red first at her head, then her entire body. "Our food was in that branch!" She scolded me hard. I don't want to tell you the details, let's say she's got a viper's mouth, unlike me. So that's why I called her Mamba. Absolutely. Great foresight on my part.
At that point we had to do something about the food, of course, and Mamba insisted that I was going to have to help. I said I don't have the time, I had dragons to recruit. She then said, "If you can't help me get food, how are you expecting to keep any dragons loyal to you?"
And I mean, I think she got me on that one, because I wasn't sure what to answer, at all. I figured either Fri, or Tuga or maybe Astra. Three moons, even Tija could've found a good answer to that! But sadly, I figured I had to do it on my own.
Besides, Astra had told me that I would become a leader on my time here and I have no idea what it entailed but being able to help everyone get food is probably up there. That's what Tija does, right?
"It's not really just about the food," said Tuga.
I told you, I learnt my lesson, but I hadn't at the time.
I asked her, "What's the plan?"
She huffed, looked down the tree, and pointed to some trees far away. "We must bring any and all of the fruits and berries we can get."
That wasn't a surprise at all, and I wondered why I even asked. What surprised me was that there were no cows or the like involved in their diet. So I asked her that, how come they didn't eat meat?
Mamba explained to me that, besides being more plentiful and delicious and not having to kill and get game, she figured hunting would also leave less to other dragons.
So that was weird.
We flied off while there was still light and found ourselves over the trees. Mostly. There were a few that were tall enough that we legitimately had to dodge around. Mamba was a mélange of colors by this point, and I was checking if I still had the flower with me, which I did, so lucky me.
"Losing the flower by that point would be less than ideal," said Fri.
I know, Fri. I would've had to travel to wherever you were, but I'd have to ask Astra, but she would've been impossible to contact; it would've been a mess and a huge waste of time.
On my way to wherever Mamba said we were going, I managed to get a glimpse of what the human settlement looked like, and it was fascinating! They were like, wooden, concentric buildings that had a bunch of small dots running all around them; smoke rose like they dominated fire, and there were a few other things that caught my attention, but I'll tell you about that later. Trust me, it's going to get complicated.
So once we landed and begun to pick up a few bananas, a few mangoes, and on our way around a few grey, furry things that perched upside down on the branches with dark spots around their eyes looked at us funny. Apparently they're called sloths, and they're not named after Ash, so that's great.
"Why Ash?" asked Mud. "Ash doesn't look like a slacker."
I had to take a jab at someone and Ash is an easy target, okay?
"I'm going to tell her once you're here," said Tuga, chuckling.
Okay, okay, do whatever you want. Ash is going to get angry but won't do a thing at all.
"Your joke was lazy," said Fri, raising a claw to point out she was pausing to deliver the blow, "Just like Ash."
Pffft. Where'd that joke come from?
Okay, regardless, I was merrily picking up a fig with my mouth, when Mamba yelled "Watch out!" and she pushed me over the branch I was siting on and we both fell to the floor. Saying my back hurt would be an understatement no matter how you put it.
So that back pain set me in place for a moment when Mamba, still on top of me, yelled, "It's the humans! They saw us, RUN!" and we both scrambled to get on our feet and get off as soon as we could.
We dropped the fruit, because like, there's no point to it if we get caught, which is a real shame because I had a fantastic eye for figs.
I hadn't mentioned that I still had no idea why Mamba was so keen on not getting detected, so I asked, "Hey, why don't we fly and go through the sky?"
She told me, "We're even easier targets on the sky, with no cover!"
It wouldn't be long before I knew what she was talking about, but couldn't we just camouflage? So that's what I did. I kind of made a mistake of not telling Mamba.
When she turned back to see if I was still following her, but she was looking around frantically, seeing where in the moons I was. "I'm here!" I yelled at her, thinking she'd just follow my voice.
"Where? Where are you?" she yelled back. At that point she yelped and dropped to the floor with a look of, "Oh no, oh no, oh no," on her face. Right after, she just... fell asleep like when you had enchanted me, Fri.
"So, they were able to enchant dragons?" asked Fri.
Not really, no. It was the blowdarts, but I'm getting there.
So, there I was, camouflaged, and completely still to not ruffle any of the bushes around me, when two humans walked right next to me. And a few dropped from the treetops, and some more surrounded Mamba.
Ah, I knew that was going to be trouble.
The odd, dark-skinned humans had some colorful painting marks like our (well, mine and Mamba's) scales, and had fang and tooth necklaces hanging and a harsh look to them that made them seem far more competent than the ones on the den. They were carrying these huge sticks with which they tied Mamba and took her in the direction of the concentric circles I talked to you about earlier.
As I told you, there had been something that caught my attention.
For some reason, they had cages. You know? Big strong and roughened cages where they kept animals. So clearly, they were intelligent enough to construct structures and hunt and even outsmart a dragon.
"Oh, Joy, I wish I had been there to see that for myself," said Tuga.
It's okay, it's all still there. You're going to see it once we go there together and invade them.
So the worst part of it all was that Mamba still seemed half-awake after all, and her scales were turning white, and she began to look sickly. Her eyes twitched as she barely held her head enough to not have horrible neck strain, but also not convince the others that she wasn't knocked out. Well, the humans might have thought that was as far as a neck would go, but I wasn't fooled. These necks go all the way.
Just in case my noises could give me away, I stepped back and took some distance, and became one with my surroundings.
Some of the humans were making a few noises and examining Mamba. She was just being dragged across the ground picking up all of the dirt while the humans seemed to be making an overwhelming effort to tow her. They were grunting something that I could obviously not understand, but they were doing things like grabbing Mamba's tail or opening her maw and now I can sort of understand why Mamba insisted so much that she didn't want to get caught.
One of them took one of their tools and skinned Mamba's scales near the tail. It was horrifying. You could see some of the... you know, I don't want to describe it. That said I put myself entirely in Mamba's place and decided I did not want to her to go through whatever they had planned for her.
She twitched in pain, obviously, but if she did any more than that she would've been found out, and they'd probably put more of whatever concoction they'd hit her with. With how pained she already looked, I don't think she would've had it better with more.
"Savages," said Fri.
"They do what the must to survive," said Tuga. "Don't be so harsh."
I disagree with both of you. They are utterly terrifying, and smart, and I don't want to face them alone at all. But, at that point, I knew I didn't have much time because I bet the humans think they didn't have much time to keep a creature five times their height to stay calm for whatever they thought their usual concoction would have it asleep.
"Can you repeat that?" asked Fri.
No.
Anyway, I figured, I'd pull a Tija.
I'm not sure if I was feeling guilty or not but leaving a dragon to die after just making Fri feel like butt was one of the worst of things I could have done to myself at that point.
And so, I charged on, all by myself, to try to do something about this.
"Wow! So you're Mamba's hero, right?" said Mud.
Not Mamba's, not really. She was able to get herself out of it, since we had the same you know, flesh-dissolving power?
"So your bravery was pointless?" asked Fri.
Not quite! Remember the cages?
When I arrived to rescue Mamba in that weird human settlement, it was packed. There were so many humans that the likelihood of bumping into one while invisible was far, far too high. So, I climbed the buildings.
While the buildings weren't exactly made to be climbed by a dragon, they were supportive enough to carry me. I jumped from building to building, camouflaged obviously, keeping an eye of where they were taking Mamba.
Anyway, there were the cages, and of course there were a few more dragons more than just Mamba and me. They didn't seem to be doing too great. They had these loooong sad faces and seemed badly hurt.
I would've wanted to know why they were keeping caged dragons near the center of their settlement, but it's not like I could strike a friendly conversation with the humans right there and then. Even then, Mamba was put in a cage with some of the others.
The thing is that they looked awfully sick.
But you know, I think many of us is far better than a few of us, right? The cages were hilarious, too. They were at best a very strong, very thick wood. None of us would've just... tackled it right? That'd been ineffective. And there must've been a reason why they didn't just break free by burning the cage to the ground.
I would guess that escaping like that would've meant a quick recapture if they can just take dragons out of the air, though. Clearly, I needed a different approach.
"So, you melted your---"
I melted my way in.
I dropped from the buildings, and they creaked, so that caught a few eyeballs of attention. The cages were against some of the buildings but still had a gap large enough for me to get behind, and clearly no humans were interested in walking on that side of the cages.
I sneaked around and quickly got to Mamba's side. She was still pale, but a friendly whisper was going to make her twitch.
"Mamba," I said.
She was laying sideways and opened her right eye to see me. "What are you doing here?" she asked, trying to act as she was still asleep by only moving the right side of her mouth.
"I'm here to save you!" I yelled.
Yelling was not a good idea.
A few more human eyeballs looked towards my direction. They were right on the side opposite to mine.
Mamba tried to keep the appearance of being knocked down, but the dragon next to her, some marble-patterned dragon with wings with cuts along their membrane and some funky looking yellow eyes, just went and screamed, "SOMEONE'S COMING TO HELP!"
"Yikes," said Fri.
I can't blame them.
Just about every other dragon began to thrash in their caves trying to break them. Which was pointless on its own but it diverted attention away from us.
I melted away the wood from the right side of the cage and the other two adjacent cages. Mamba and the other dragon immediately ran out of their cage. You know, I think that if the others had decided to help each other we wouldn't have been needed? Ah, that would've made things more difficult for me.
I told Mamba to use that thing I used to burn the branch along with the rest of the cages, became visible and screamed at everyone, "BURN THEM! BURN THEM ALL! COVER FOR EACH OTHER!"
I'm not sure if they listened to me or if my instructions were common sense, but when Mamba and I started telling them to group up the stink of burnt human flesh started to be pretty bad.
I hadn't at all noticed that I was standing atop the buildings, yelling at everyone how they were about to be assaulted from a side, to be careful with a human hiding in a gap between buildings, or how Mamba had jumped on top of the building to swat away one of the humans that had climbed with a pointy stick to stop me.
When we noticed that they were coming from the outer edges back to the inner edges, and noticed that there were no more humans downright in the innermost circle, I told them all, "QUICK! COVER ALL OF THE OPENINGS!" Pointing groups to all the spaces where more humans could've come from.
Since none of them could fly they couldn't surprise us from above, and walls of fire began to form whenever a human dared come close. You should've heard the screams, Fri. They were incredibly loud and obnoxious.
That would give us enough time to figure out a new plan to get out of there together, so we came up with a new plan: We'd put some the firebreathers on top of two other dragons that would carry them away, flying, and we'd make a wall of fire that would burn so hot it'd be a barrier to anything they'd throw at us.
So that's what we did.
When I instructed them to start breaking the defensive line, slowly to not show there was any opportunity to strike while we were distracted, and eventually, we had this weird formation ready to go.
I'm not saying it was an elegant idea, but it was effective enough for us to get away.
"Did that really happen?" asked Tuga.
Do you take me for a liar?
"It seems unlikely that they'd keep their equilibrium just like that," said Tuga.
Well, yeah, they weren't standing on the backs of the other dragons, they were hanging upside-down!
"That seems even more unlikely," said Tuga.
That's just because you had to be there.
