Lemme just get this out of the way...making backgrounds for games is tough!

I just have a quick post tonight since I don't have much completed stuff to show.

Nearly all my work this week has been dedicated to working on backgrounds for the Yokai Forest. I'm really happy with the work, but it has been pretty time-intensive for me. I did a little coding with the Yokai Hunter as well, but that's about it. I'll share a little snapshot of the background I've been working on.

made plenty of progress in dark souls today! my overall impression of the undead parish: the enemies in that area look much tougher than they actually are (that dancing mage terrified me until he died in 4 hits. rip)

currently trying to beat bell gargoyles. easy fight until there's two of them beating your ass xD

#that big knight protecting the fire keeper soul was also scary until i saw how slow his attacks are #and the first running red-cape knight (i don't know a single enemy name lol) also terrified me until i learned how easily they stagger #so yeah #pretty cool area much easier than undead burg! I’m a little sad I finally finished my first play through.

I was on the edge of my seat at the end with all the ways it could have gone.

I know there’s tons of permutations of events but there’s nothing like picking it up for the first time and just. Going.

Honestly, my best experience was discovering the underdark beneath the selunite temple.

The underdark is one of my favorite places, I loved reading about menzoberranzan as a teen, I’ve obsessed over drow in particular, but I didn’t know we’d be going to the underdark.

Meandering over after killing priestess gut, drawn in by a bit of pesky curiosity, “okay I’ll explore a little bit then I’ll finish killing the goblins” (ha!), tediously solving the puzzle with great satisfaction after I figured out which way it went thanks to the note we picked up (and I Love puzzles!), descending the ladder a touch afraid after the run in with the spiders down the well earlier, only to be met with breathtaking colors and scenery — it was The moment I knew I loved this game.

#me reminiscing my first plays on EA and official release #idk why that in particular. the characters were wonderful at that point too #and so was all the other scenery and story #but the underdark felt like a sensory smorgasbord like a nice massage to my brain (or maybe that was the tadpole)
