Rules of riding a school bus

Basic rules: 1) trust no one, not even people you think are friends 2) never make eye contact 3) keep your head down and headphones on for as long as you can 4) sit on the window side and put your backpack in the other spot 5) don't react if posable, just let it happen

Rules for if someone interacts: 1) don't trust kindness, it's likely a trick. if someone (typically girls) complements you don't trust that means their nice, it is often just done as a joke to mess with you 2) if someone sits next to you make yourself small, take up as little space as possible and hope they don't notice you 3) whatever they do to harass or bully you do not fight back this will only come back to bite you later 4) if harassment becomes a consistent issue (it likely will) then try to learn whatever you can about the person

Dealing with repeated harassment/bulling: step 1) ask yourself these questions; Do they do it when their friends aren't around or only when someone else is there? what kind of things are they doing? what makes you an easy target to them?

step 2) try to avoid them, if your bus does assigned seats then remember the basic rules

step 3) try to keep them entertained in other ways; leave snacks or food on their seat but don't let them know it was you, laugh with them when they make fun of you, try to lessen what makes you and easy target

4) wait; if you wait long enough they will stop or you will move up a grade (this step may last years)

Summary: The bus is hell but these are the rules, the sooner you learn them the better. I had to learn them the hard way.
