What gives sewis that special tang is(like many fics explored) the freedom of choice in it. Literally no relationship in f1 can be chosen, your teammate to your rival, you don't get to choose who will define your legacy in the sport(i can write a whole essay about this with max and lewis. Literally both of them forced to encounter each other by the simple fact that they are really talented and the only "obvious rival to each other for years) but with sewis, who have handful of rivals and fellow drivers they can choose to be defined by, chose each other. Like even before baku 2017, there are interviews of lewis wanting a similar shot of senna and prost while he's racing sebastian, and even though seb and lewis did not have the most brutal rivalry of both of their careers, they would both prefer to go down as "The Main Rival" of each other.

Also even if they weren't friends(which they literally are) the amount of times they were present during monumental events of one another is astonishing. You don't get to be exposed to a single guy during both your most antagonizing(multi 21) and thrilling(turkey 2020) moments and not grow a soft spot for them.

Okay can we talk about the episode with Domino Squad for a moment

Because this episode is all about unity and working as a team.

Their issue is that they aren't working together and it is very much not working out. They literally cannot do this alone, and they try to leave or get transferred but that doesn't happen because if they aren't a team than they need to be.

And that's how they win the challenge. This is all about teamwork and they're not just a team at the end they're friends. Maybe they were before, but if so it looks like that friendship was struggling.

This is an episode that emphasizes how important teamwork is, and it does so with a squad we already know is half dead.

Three of the Domino Squad dies in the same episode that introduces them. Echo is lost later this season. They emphasize the importance of teamwork with the squad that they explicitly show us be narrowed down to one.
