im so giddy rn doing research abt this all but

myspace launched in 2003 and aol launched in 1997 so im picturing ole girl laying on her tummy sending messages back and forth to mike (w the emoticons included) from the comfort of her bedroom on her little ibook while mike is confined to the conspicuous computer room in the library, trying to use his body to shield the incredibly inappropriate messages she's sending him. and god forbid if she's sent him an image. the wifi in the library is absolute shit and even worse, the computers have a habit of freezing so while she's at home giddily biting her french tip nail, mike is panicking because his girlfriend has sent a nude to him that at first wouldn't load and now that is has loaded, he's both trying to admire it and get it off the computer screen as quick as possible.

thinking about dwobbits again!!! these are my personal headcanons:

children born from hobbit/dwarf pairings are not that rare, but you wouldn't know you met a dwobbit unless they told you! they usually take after one of their parents, so if you meet a "dwarf" with pointy ears or a "hobbit" with sharper features... now you know why!

hobbits are not as prudish as they'd like you to think, and not many dwarves wish to marry, so children out of wedlock are a thing that happens (and their custody battles are legendary)

sadly, while children are precious in both hobbit and dwarven societies, the people of middle earth have a tendency towards prejudice. mixed kids are seen as outsiders by many (some dwarves would even argue against teaching their cultural practices to a "half-blooded" child, though these are a minority)
