An AU, where Wednesday wasn’t healed by Goody after being stabbed by Joseph Crackstone

*For background context*

After helping her win the Poe Cup, Enid had begun to grow an attachment to Wednesday. She had always tried to brush it off, saying it was just a normal friendship attachment feeling, but she knew deep down that it was more than that. Wednesday could feel it too, but would never allow herself to embrace the feeling. The two spent the days leading up to the night of the battle ignoring their feelings towards each-other.

The dagger comes at Wednesday so quickly that she doesn't have time to recoil or react to Crackstone's sudden motion. "Now burn in the eternal fires of Hell," Crackstone spits in Wednesday's face, his expression darkened with such a deep, evil presence that makes even Wednesday feel taken-aback.

A gasp escapes from Wednesday's lungs as he twists the blade in further. Hot. Burning, no— Seething pain. Excruciating.

Crackstone retracts the blade, causing Wednesday's body to protest; Every alarm sounding in her nervous system that lethal injury has occurred. Panic perks up every goosebump that her body is capable of producing, bile rising to the back of her throat.

Wednesday stumbles back, her spine eventually finding a wall to collapse into. She slides down the wall until she slumps onto the cold floor of the crypt that will soon be known as her final resting place. Black specks begin to cloud Wednesday's vision.

"Sweet dreams, Wednesday!" she hears Thornhill call out, and in that moment Wednesday swears she could kill Thornhill with the anger in her gaze alone, if she wasn't suffering this damnation that is mortality.

Dying doesn't feel nearly as exhilarating as Wednesday had imagined. This feeling is cold, nothing like the sweet embrace she had once pictured. The black specks in her vision are growing as Wednesday begins to think of what this means.

She was meant to be the savior of Nevermore. She was the one to finally piece together the puzzle of all the recent murders, to have found what was hiding at the Gate's mansion, to have the Master of the Hyde revealed. All of it meant nothing now. Thornhill will win. Nevermore will be destroyed, exactly how this pathetic pilgrim envisioned so many years ago. Heat rises up the back of Wednesday's neck and into her face at the thought. She grits her teeth. For a second, the black specks subside.

Wednesday thinks of Eugene. Of how there would be no justice for him. Everything he went through because of her. The heat in her face turns into what feels like a boiling point.

Finally, of all people, Wednesday thinks of Enid. How Wednesday put her through such deception to go to the Gate's mansion with her to look for some sort of evidence. How she put Enid in danger when Tyler tried to chase them out as the Hyde. The memory of Enid leaving Wednesday in their dorm room alone out of anger replays in Wednesday's mind.

The boiling anger spills over, and Wednesday lets out a scream. A shockwave of nerve rushes through her body, and the pain in her abdomen lowers to a manageable level. She stands on shaky legs, letting out another scream as the stab wound begs for mercy from the adrenaline fueling her to get up. She stands fully, giving her lungs time to catch up. It all hits Wednesday at once. The inconsolable rage in every atom of her being.

She picks up her legs, putting one foot in front of the other, the adrenaline flowing at full force. She can feel the blood seeping through her clothes, running down her legs, but in this moment, it doesn't matter. Too many people deserve justice over everything that's happened at this school, and Wednesday fully intends to serve it.

Wednesday breaks out into a sprint, her feet pounding on the ground of the woods in the direction of Nevermore. But something doesn't feel right. She slows down and pauses, trying to make sense of what feels off. Then it hits her — literally. Wednesday is thrown up against a tree by her neck. It's the Hyde. Tyler.

It opens its mouth to let out a growl, but is cut off by the sudden impact of another being slamming into it. The Hyde loses its grasp on Wednesday and she falls, hard, onto the ground beneath them. A shooting pain goes up and around her abdomen. Wednesday lets out a harsh breath. She has to refocus her vision, threatened by the black specks once again, but once it refocuses, Wednesday is shocked by the being that has come to her rescue.

It's not some being, it's a wolf. A werewolf, with pink and blue coloring streaking its fur. Her eyes widen. "Enid?" she whispers, the werewolf meeting her gaze. Enid's eyes soften. In this moment, Wednesday feels a sudden feeling of what she can only describe as comfort. But the feeling is cut short by the memory of the situation they're currently in.

Wednesday looks up to see the Hyde sprinting full force at Enid. "Enid!" Wednesday yells just as the Hyde slams into Enid. The two of them go into a full attack against one another. "Enid..." Wednesday thinks, a sense of worry rising in her chest. As much worry as it brings her, Wednesday knows that Enid can handle this. She has to.

Wednesday hesitates, but finally wills her legs to pick up the sprint again. "I have to get back to the school!" Wednesday yells, hoping Enid understands why she has to flee. She can't think about it, about her. All of the suppressed emotions that've been building between her and Enid are starting to burst at the seams.

"She'll be okay. She has to be," Wednesday whispers to herself as she trudges on towards the school, the black specks threatening once again.

*The scene of Wednesday defeating Crackstone plays out, Wednesday growing paler than her usual from the blood loss, but the adrenaline in her body keeping her strong and upright.*

The entirety of Nevermore students are huddled together in the woods, where Bianca and the other sirens led them. Enid soon meets up with them, in nothing but her pink coat, the only article of clothing that managed to survive the transformation. She's covered in blood, her face cut up from the claws of the Hyde. A hard fight, her first fight, but a fight that she'd won. She was able to escape, leaving Tyler unconscious.

She looks around, looking for the familiar face that had been the reasoning for her wolfing out. "Where's Wednesday?" Enid lets out, unable to hide the concern in her voice. Everybody exchanges glances with one another, but nobody has an answer for her question. That can only mean one thing, right?

Enid lets out a gasp, taking steps back while trying not to think the unthinkable. Tears threaten to fall from her eyes. In that moment, she wanted to collapse onto the ground and cry. "It was all for nothing," she thinks. Just as she feels her knees beginning to fold, something causes her to look up. Her heart skips a beat.

In the shadows of the trees, a shadow emerges. Slowly, the shadow develops features. Two braids, a small but strong frame, and the darkest eyes you could imagine. Wednesday!

Enid quickly runs towards her, knocking her entire body into Wednesday, not caring that she's committing the unthinkable by touching her. Enid gives Wednesday the tightest hug she can muster.

"Enid."

"Wednesday!"

"Ee...n..nid....."

"Wednesday?"

Enid looks up, immediately sensing something is wrong. Then she sees it. Any life that Wednesday could've possibly had in her face prior to today was now gone. Pale couldn't even begin to describe it. Her eyes are no longer their usual cutting darkness. They're glazed over and unable to focus on anything. Her lips are so white they could almost be blue.

"Wednesday? Are you..." Enid starts to question, but her eyes peer down enough to notice how blood-soaked every square inch of fabric on Wednesday's body is. "Oh my god-" she exclaims, her eyes then catching on the rip in the middle of Wednesday's uniform. "Oh my god!" Enid screams, realizing the rip has to be from a knife.

Enid felt Wednesday's weight fully falling into hers, causing Enid's reflex to catch Wednesday by the back of her neck and the bend of her knees. There is no resistance. The entirety of Wednesday's weight is in Enid's arms, with Wednesday now unconscious in Enid's embrace.

"HELP! PLEASE OH MY GOD, HELP!" Enid screams loudly, her voice cracking under the strain.

Yoko and Bianca rush over first, offering to help with the weight of carrying Wednesday, but Enid refuses. Tears were fully streaming down her face at this point. "Please just come with me to take her to the infirmary, PLEASE!" she cries.

Bianca and Yoko share a worried glance with one another, but comply as they begin following Enid in the direction of the school, their hands offering support by resting on Enid's shoulders.

A tired graveyard shift nurse is sitting at the front desk of the infirmary. "Do you kids know what time it is? I'm sure you all just drank too much alcohol as per usual, just go ba—" the nurse stumbles on the end of her sentence the second she finally glances up at the bloodied students standing in front of her. "Ohh... Oh! Oh my. Oh my!" the nurse exclaims while rushing out of her chair and lunging to hit the "Staff Assistance" button on the wall. A bell chirps above, causing a group of four other infirmary workers to rush in.

Enid begins to sob harder than she ever has before. "Please, please help her. I need her to be okay, please help!" Enid sobs so hard she begins to gag.

Two nurses lift Wednesday out of Enid's arms and swiftly onto a gurney. Another nurse quickly moves a trash can to catch the vomit that comes out of Enid's mouth quicker than Enid can even process that she's getting sick.

The repeated motion of retching cause a deep exhaustion to wash over Enid's body, and she grows weak in the knees. "Don't you go out on me too. Here, sit," Nurse 2 commands while pulling a wheelchair behind Enid. Or maybe it's Nurse 3. Enid couldn't tell anymore. Everything has become a blur.

"Is this what shock feels like?" She wonders to herself. Enid notices the room is starting to darken. "Wednesd... wenssd...." Enid tries to call out, but the exhaustion of everything that's happened takes over, pulling her into the darkness.

Do you have proof Robspierre opposed what happened in the towns of Nantes and Lyon? Because as far as I know (and I'm no expert) there's no account of him being explicitly against what happened there, except the argument he had with Fouché in Carlotte Robespierre's mémoirs. Sorry if my question bothered you, I'm just trying to understand the whole situation.

We know Robespierre spearheaded the motion to have Carrier (the man who was in charge of the army at Nantes when the mass killings happened, and who is generally agreed to be responsible for them) recalled and removed from his position. We also know that he was against the violent dechristianizers, whom he called "fanatics".

With Fouché, the main source is Charlotte Robespierre's memoirs, and memoirs can be tricky with authentication, but I'm inclined to believe it because it lines up with the circumstances and what we know of both men. Something must've happened between the two of them for Fouché to feel so genuinely threatened by Robespierre, and we know that Robespierre abhorred excessive violence (he refused to watch executions, for example, and advocated against trying to bring the revolution to other countries through war), as well as the dechristianization movement, which he saw as both needlessly destructive and an affront to religious freedom.

Robespierre was very uncompromising when it came to actions he deemed immoral by government members (and honestly, mass slaughter is usually considered immoral by most people). He was famous for being "incorruptible" (read: not taking bribes) and due to that, there was no way to shut him up if he found out you were abusing your position, other than killing him off. So Fouché must've been scared of Robespierre exposing something about him, and the fact that he participated in semi-legal extrajudicial massacres seems a likely candidate.

Also a lot of his rhetoric in speeches hints about his complicated position on revolutionary violence. Oftentimes he condones some form of violence (like the execution of Louis Capet), but he usually tempers it with some condition about only doing it when absolutely necessary (i.e. terror without virtue is fatal). He also signed relatively few arrest warrants compared to most of his colleagues on the CSP, and was famously reluctant to arrest several people until there was better proof of their guilt (Danton and Desmoulins come to mind here; he eventually did agree to put them on trial but only after trying to dissuade Desmoulins from lawbreaking multiple times). So if he was that careful about even sending someone to trial, it's only logical that he would not be a fan of summary execution.

Sorry if this is long or if it seems like beating around the bush, I have neither the time nor the knowledge of 18th century French style/grammar conventions to comb through all the relevant documents and speeches that might hold more conclusive proof. But TL;DR: he definitely opposed Carrier's actions in Nantes, and it's very likely from what we know of his ideological positions that Fouché's actions in Lyon drove a wedge between the two as well.

do u ever wonder why jaime never told tyrion or cersei about the wildfire plot?

Alright, here’s the thing. A lot of the story will not function if this is known by other people, so I won’t not acknowledge that maybe it is a plot convenience. The caches of wildfire under KG is a Chekhov’s gun leading to something big, we cannot have it removed from there. Jaime’s story relies on the fact that a whole kingdom despises him for his “finest act”, which also falls apart if the context of that act is known, especially with Tyrion dropping it earlier to the reader in his POVs (would be kind of odd if he never mentions this lmao). Not to mention that if certain powerful people are aware of it, it could shift the game entirely. But still, that does not mean that we cannot make sense of it. I just think George neglected to give us an actual concrete explanation (perhaps intentionally). Maybe this is very deliberate and speaks to Jaime’s characterization.

A big factor is that he was a traumatized 17 yo when it happened. This event really messed him up. He represses, dissociates from, and compartmentalizes things. The way he reacts to the act of confessing during the bath scene is further proof of this. His thoughts communicate that he thinks he is so out of it that he can no longer check himself from admitting it to someone, including himself. Like he does not even think about the wildfire plot before the confession, even though we are in his head. Wouldn’t he want to justify it to himself in his own head when he gets judged by Brienne early on? Look at just how the confession even happens, he is completely out of it, his walls fall down, he acts like it is out of his control, it is like a part that was buried for years bubbling to the surface:

Wildfire and its qualities are also not very well understood. Barely anyone is familiar with how it truly works, and how volatile it is, as showcased by Tyrion’s ACoK chapters. I truly do not believe Jaime is aware how much of a threat they are still, and thinks it is the best if they remain ignored, hidden in jars under the city.

This is the most direct way that his silence about it is addressed:

Making “Lannister pride and stubbornness” the main, or only, explanation is something I always found a little vague. Same with his smart-ass response about oaths. It feels like deflection, and Jaime’s pathetic return to his bitter posturing. Especially how this justification of his does not really work for keeping it from Cersei and Tyrion. In fact, it mostly only works with Ned, and then he seems to become consumed by the bitterness of that specific interaction until he hurts himself and faints (loser). Also, I am curious as to how this holds up when Jaime gradually climbs out of his bitterness and cynicism and is making attempts to change his self concept later in the series. If people read Jaime as exclusively more concerned with the way he is perceived than being an actual good person, I feel like dropping this fact post bath confession to remedy his image would have certainly aided in the desire to have a better reputation (or would it be too late? I do not think so. It certainly worked with Brienne). Would anyone believe him? Is there a point? Is it his pride in confict with his desire to be humanized in the eyes of others? I think it is way more complicated. I think it is about hopelessness. I think it is just a general disillusionment with the concept of honor and morality and how it operates within this system. Jaime has no faith in these institutions at that point. We see it in the weirwood dream. He confesses. He tells the truth. Yet he is damned by his heroes all the same. That results in his fire going out, and there is no coming back from that.

Him not telling his loved ones in specific is interesting though. Including his father. Maybe it is the fact that they never judged him for it or they do not care. However, what I do find pretty interesting is that Tyrion and Cersei make use of wildfire as a weapon within the story.

I really read, or believe a big part of, Jaime’s decision to bury the existence of the caches is making them essentially unavailable. He knows that nobody is aware of them, because he went out of his way to kill everyone who was:

Jaime is so deeply traumatized about Aerys, and this whole situation is so monumental in his development, that I think there has to be a deep fear of anyone making use of it again. Including his own family. Therefore, I think he is willing to essentially bury the secret with him, despite its personal consequences. This of course paints him in a pretty moral light, which you can disagree with.

I feel like to justify this reading I also need to address the perspective of “that doesnt make sense bc jaime doesnt care about the innocents he just did it to save his father/self preservation etc”. This might be a reading exclusive to very Jaime critical circles, but there was a GoT (i know. i know. i shouldnt give a shit😭) video essay with views in the hundred thousands that claimed this so it might not be so obscure.

First of all, I dont think that makes sense with how the confession is structured and written at all. Second, idk how that reading would benefit his character writing. We start out with a comically villainous character that is unveiled to be a complex individual. Why must there be another twist on that that subverts this and goes like “no, actually he is that comically villainous individual that would be fine with 500k people being burned alive at age 17”. I am not a fan of the woobification done to him sometimes either, but there comes a point where people feel the need to misconstrue and add twists to scenes that obviously had a specific purpose for the character. What would this scene gain by having the added twist of “oh he EXCLUSIVELY did it to save his father/self preservation”? Genuinely what would such a strong moment of recontextualization gain from this? Jaime was supposed to be all about his immediate family to the ruin of everybody else. The reveal serves the purpose of recontextualizing his character and adding dimensions to it by showing that that is not entirely the case, while also delineating his trajectory thus far, especially regarding his cynicism concerning feudalistic moral constructs. What is the purpose of telling us “actually, he saved KG” only to go “this does not change how you should view his character though, circumstances just perfectly aligned for him so he committed a heroic act.”

On top of that, the logistics of removing wildfire is something insanely complicated. Him telling Ned? Sure, great. But then who else would they need to tell? The point of the wildfire under the city is that it sentences KL to death. There is really no solution. I think metaphorically it is about the culmination of corruption. That place was on a trajectory of doom, and it was never really saved, Robert, its supposed savior, was nothing but stagnation. The city is filled to the brim with corruption. Someone would abuse that power, if it is not set off during attempts at removal. Ntm even the exact locations are not known. You cannot make the caches disappear. The closest thing to it is burying the secret with you, which is what Jaime is doing. Mind you Brienne knows it too now, yet she is not eager to tell anyone either. Neither of them know what a ticking time-bomb it is. But even if they did, I think the point is that you cannot really do anything about it at this point. KL was sentenced to death and it is at a point of no return.

For the rationale of “Jaime never justifies it in such a way in his own thoughts, when he could.” Well he also never justifies him pushing Bran with “I wanted to save the lives of Cersei and our children.” Even though George believes that is the case. Jaime’s denial and posturing is not exclusive to his words, but also his thoughts. This man also deludes himself, not just those around him. He detaches himself from truth constantly to avoid vulnerability. You are hit in the face with this repeatedly in ASoS. He even lies about his motivations for things he does after they happen, which is just hilarious because we are inside his head when he decides to take certain actions and know what he is thinking and know that he is full of shit. So I do not think this contradicts my interpretation.

He reaches out and brushes his fingers across the mark, a small, proud grin on his face. You turn toward him and he steps closer, leaning in to press his chapped lips along your shoulder. Your free hand grips his bicep as he continues, trailing his lips up your neck, hot breath tickling your skin.

Felix: Felix sits up in bed, raising his arms above his head, stretching out. He glances around the room and spots you by the wardrobe, looking for clothes. His eyes land on your bare back, where several soft bruises have formed. A smirk finds its way onto his face as he thinks about the early morning hours. The way he nibbled every inch of skin that you allowed him to.

He walks over to you and you glance over your shoulder at him. "The blue top," he says, pointing to the one in your right hand.

"Thanks," you reply, turning back to your clothes.

F: F awakens to you brushing a hand through their hair. You smile at them, that smile that swells hope into their heart. That tells them to never leave your side again. They grab your hand and intertwine your fingers, pressing a soft kiss on the top of your hand. You flip your intertwined arms over and point to a small bruise.

I know there is racism within the Dick/Kory relationship as well, but why is Dick/Babs racist towards Dick?

Ok so I’m on mobile so I don’t have like panels ect. But in summary (also this is not against the characters ect) : you cannot remove Babs being a white woman and Dick being a moc especially when their characterization was adapted and changed for the ship.

.(mostly modern) Babs was infantized and often removed of any wrongdoing her and her character can do-this is a bad thing. She’s not an innocent naive white woman constantly wronged by Dick (this is important to her being compared to Kory). She’s not always in the right. She used to be quite mean and cold and that’s ok!! Sometimes women aren’t saints. But recently her character is falling more and more into the girl next door archetype. The writing almost entirely takes away any accountability from Babs. It’s important to stress that in the instances Dick wronged her were ooc and done hand in hand with him being written as a moc-him “cheating”/being a player was not his characterization until that happened-his race cannot be removed from the relationship. Many of his faults are directly ties to the writers bigotry. Todays Babs (who all will argue is ooc and weak compared to bop Babs and I’m not denying that but she is part of the issue of the ship-she exists because of it) is perfect and her perfection hinges on Kory and Dicks failures (both of which have racial undertones). She’s competent when Dicks incompetent (which aside from being like. Objectively bad writing he has a decade of hero work on her-undeniably has misogynistic and ableist tones as well). She’s virtuous where Dick and Korys not, she’s waiting and pining whilst Dick is portrayed as “dabbling” with an “exotic” purely sexual fling but will ultimately return to her (which is bad for multiple reasons). Modern Babs in the ship dynamic hinges on being a white woman in a love triangle with two poc-there is no fault in her in the relationship or character and any and all flaws are because of Dick or Kory-who either wronged her or failed her time and time again. Now there’s no denying how misogyny plays into this, or ableism (but it must be stressed that Dick is a Disabled man as well so her being a disabled woman does not remove any accountability here). At the end of the day she’s a white woman propped up against characters of color (in multiple dynamics from Dick and Kory, to Cass as bg, ect). Now I will say that DC seems to be considering making her Black as she’s being played by a Black woman in the dccu and has been voiced by one for years-her being a woc would remove a lot of the harmful dynamics at play.

Dick in his time being retconned as a moc (which coincides with the ship ect) cannot be removed from its current writing : once he was competent and “virtuous” (very much in love with one and only one person at a time. Not “slutty” *yes I know slutty isn’t a bad thing) now he is quite frankly portrayed as a dumbass incapable of thinking forward five minutes, incapable of settling on one woman, and constantly wronging Babs/being undeserving of her-it needs to be stressed here that his status as a survivor and how dc treated his s/a cannot be divorced from the ship either. Dick does not need a baby sitter. Babs competence and “goodness” should not come at the expense of retconned flaws. Dick is not w/o fault in their relationship and I would never say that-there have been many moments of minor to major ableist “microaggressions” in their dating during bop/now however given the way Babs treats Dick (a brown, lower class, Disabled man as well) I would say they’re about even in terms of biased writing. Dicks competence and character being frankly insulted for white characters is not new-while the case is strongest in Taylor’s current run in regards to Babs and Tim, it pops up often with Bruce and Jason (who yes is atm a canonically white man). His sexualization and the retroactive hypersexualization of his relationship with Kory vs the retroactive well. Canon of his relationship with Babs well. You quite obviously cannot remove race there. (This is not a commentary on the writing of Kory/their relationship which is obv a whole other essay that frankly I’m not the best person for). Where their relationship is “clean and wholesome” Dick and Korys isn’t when quite frankly if I were to compare their iconic runs (bop vs ntt) frankly Dick and Kory come out on top in terms of frankly. Everything. Modern DickBabs represents a lot of regression for the characters from their competence, to their age (Babs used to be much older), to their morals, but what it does the most is portray what is fundamentally a able bodied white woman who is magically better and more virtuous, and most often victimized by her less competent, less moral, harmful, peers that textually are stated to not deserve her. There’s kinda an awkward racial undertone to the whole ship and their writing rn like. You kinda can’t remove it the writing wouldn’t be the same if Dick was white or Babs was a woc-and again that’s barely touching it in the context of how it’s used and portrayed to (wrongly) insult and demean Kory and their relationship (and quite frankly Dicks relationships with multiple other woc like Shawn, Helena, or Beatrice)

This is just like off the top of my head and not written perfectly if anyone has anything to add or clarify ect feel free to in the comments or on the post idc. i realized i rly don’t think shrike ever saw orin as a threat, but not in a dismissive way. i think he was grateful. on a certain level once he’d been brought to the cult of bhaal, sprayed with a garden hose (so he could be re-blood-drenched properly), re-domesticated, and filled in on the religious dogma of bhaal, i think he looked at younger orin like. okay she is blood of bhaal but she’s a descendant of a descendant. bhaalist worship loves children of bhaal fighting to the death, but that made shrike cagey around sarevok, not orin. orin was a bright spot. dangerous enough not to need coddling but young and full of surprises and just as fucked up as he was. i think having been functionally dragged out of the woods as a rabid animal and then made to lead a church, her digging at him or dogging his footsteps or ambushing him wouldve made him feel more normal, almost? like i imagine theres a sharp division between bhaalspawn and bhaal devotees, and orin was technically on his side of the line but not a clear and present danger. predator pups will play fight, play hunt each other. i think thats how shrike saw their relationship

on the other hand, i think orin fucking hated him lmao. she killed her own mother and was cosseted by sarevok and likely knew from a young age that because sarevoks time had come and gone she was to be the scion of bhaal, at least in baldurs gate. and then sceleritas fel drags in this nonverbal twitching cannibal elf and is like “actually this guy is MADE from bhaal and thus supercedes u.” and sarevok presumably just accepts this once shrike does enough killing. and shrike unintentionally always broadcasts the fact that he doesn’t take her seriously. he finds her cute. he won’t even just kill her off and be done with it— for some reason he likes the idea that she’ll just hang out in the temple with him forever. they can braid each others hair. no one in this temple has the rational thinking or emotional intelligence to try to really understand each others perspectives and hash out this utterly fucked family dynamic. bhaal would probably see them killed for trying. so shrike dotes on orin in his way and orin seethes and then finally she bashes his fucking head in and gets everything she wanted. but then of course he comes out of the woods again to ruin her life

and god. this is so crucial to me bc for me canonically shrike will always handle cazador with astarion before facing the temple of bhaal. he helps strike down the monster who ruled over astarion and pitted him against his siblings, and astarion gets to kill him, is free of him, and while theres no touching reunions his “siblings” are free too. it all (from a truly fucked perspective) works out. and shrike rejects bhaal bc he’s taken onboard shadowheart rejecting shar, lae’zel rejecting vlaakith, astarion killing cazador, etc, he knows he has a choice now that he didnt when he was compelled to kill his clan and then dragged feral out of the woods. and shadowheart still got to meet nocturne, lae’zel finds kinship with kith’rak voss, astarions “siblings” lived. i rly think he goes into the temple of bhaal thinking he can somehow get orins netherstone and save her too. and that is not what she fucking wants. its fucking insulting. even after she nearly succeeded in assassinating him, he won’t take her seriously as a scion of bhaal. i rly think its only moments before shrike has to kill her that he realizes a fight to the death was all she ever wanted, because at least in this he has to acknowledge her as an equal, finally. and shrikes misery is 100%. he rly went in and thought, even if hes now remembered in gory detail killing his foster mothers and their whole clan, he might leave bhaal with a sister. and that was never going to happen

literally if he didnt have a new sort of adoptive relationship with jaheira, his comraderie with the other companions but particularly lae’zel, and his relationship with astarion, withers couldnt have called him back. he just wouldve let bhaal kill him and been added to the wall of the faithless. on a fundamental level he was born a predatory wild animal, taught the warmth of a hearth and place to belong by his mothers in a way bhaal has been trying to blot out ever since, and no amount of devolution of him as a person could get rid of the knowledge of love on a basic, maybe instinctual level. if someones kind and loving life can be shattered by an act of violence, i think someones life of violence and misery can be shattered by an act of love. i think he carried love like a disease even when he repressed his childhood to survive in the wilds, and he tried to spread it the first chance he got, to orin. it just didnt take. it wasnt something she needed the way he did (she thought she had it. thats why her reaction if u convince her sarevok betrayed her hits so fucking hard. shes destroyed by the loss of love, even as fucked as it was). and if he’d made his way back to the temple alone to face the truth about orin he wouldve died of love like a terminal disease. rabies parallels but not the obvious ones

I have complex feelings on the amputation so here they are. 

Just from a personal standpoint, I’m a gorehound. I love torture porn. I love shock value. I unironically enjoy the Hostel movies. So when I saw that in the finale I went bonkers fucking yonkers. Fiona gave a PERFORMANCE. Ohhh it was the moment.

I can also see it being something Tiffany comes up with as a “solution.” Don’s explanation of “clipping the butterfly’s wings to keep it” is, to me, in line with Tiffany’s romantic outlook on the world.

HOWEVER, I think it overall was a mistake. Like. For one, it’s just a bad fucking look to treat the only disabled character like this. Come the fuck on, Don. It also ended up being essentially meaningless. Voodoo lore has never ever been consistent in this franchise. But it could have easily been fixed with a spell? As long as you have a good guy doll? Which Tiffany could easily have acquired? Fuck this. 

I think the smarter thing to do would have been to embrace the drug hallucination theory that was passing around for a while. Have your cake and eat it too, as it were. It would also then give the moment a level of symbolic meaning, reflecting what Nica thinks of Tiffany’s control over her. (And could be contrasted, then, with the reality of Tiffany’s feelings.)

Obviously, it would require a full restructuring of Season 2, but that’s literally what’s needed.

I feel like if this experience taught me anything, it's that I don't trust the media worth a damn. I am so frustrated with how this went down from every single angle, and (not to sound like a right wing nut) the media made it ten thousand times worse.

I was genuinely and seriously in "of course geno will come back :)" land when left to my own devices. it was only when I started reading the Panic Pieces from our Dear Favorite Writers that I actually got nervous. then they started publishing, like, multiple articles within 48 hours of each other, escalating in severity and fear. it was ridiculous, and so much of it was.... bunk? absolutely bungled? ill-sourced?

to me it seemed evident that some writers had lost most, if not all, inside connections that they previously had, and that tanked their "inside knowledge" considerably. now: that's not the writers' fault, but that doesn't obligate them to publish rumors, spit on 'em to shine 'em up, and call 'em likely, you know?

like, no one fucking knew about the rusty deal. which: fine, GMRH is quiet, alright, but that it took EVERYONE by surprise isn't how we're used to things going around here, and it threw off basically every reporter's estimation of how this summer would go. and THEN the tanger deal, which was like... basically unbelievable if your impression was garnered from the media (who all agreed that the pens would lose tanger this summer barring a miracle and personality replacement for kris). I was shocked, and that's when I knew something was seriously up, because I had taken some reporters' opinions earnestly and they were being proven wrong on multiple points in VERY short order, and it made their articles look kinda goofy in hindsight.

that's not to say I'm unsympathetic; I know people who have worked in News for years, some who have recently lost their jobs and livelihoods and crafts-of-30-years because of the shuttering of newspapers and traditional reporting. I know that, unfortunately, news is a business and these people need clicks. I don't doubt for a SECOND that this entire ordeal was a fantastic opportunity for them financially. I think it sucks, but it's a reality of the job, and I'm willing to understand it.

however: the geno situation got so, so, so out of control.

good god some of those articles were becoming clickbaity as shit, lol. it got pretty ridiculous at the end, and even though we ALL were sitting here like "alright cool, so geno and the pens are playing hardball with each other and using their favorite weapons on each other: The Media", that doesn't mean that those very-much-intentionally-leaked things didn't cause a ton of stress, ahaha.

I was convinced—CONVINCED—that Geno's "I'm going to free agency, you bastards" move was him DEMANDING that hextall blink first, but that doesn't change the facts that: he said he was open to testing the market, he could have gotten a great offer, and he could have taken it. I don't think he threw that threat down lightly, but I really truly honestly (my friends will tell you) believed that that move was him using the last thing in his arsenal. I could be wrong! he really could have (and by a lot of current indications, did) mean that as an earnest "fuck you, I'll go", but my poor little optimist heart was clinging onto that idea, and I will fully accept and admit that geno was absolutely waging psychological war on the pens front office, very intentionally, in an attempt to

get what he wanted(/deserved) and

make them look bad.

anyways, back to my point: I was genuinely doing really well (yay, disassociation and blind necessary optimism) if I didn't read any media pieces on the situation, and because of my belief that those pieces were written with both a lack of real knowledge of the situation (NO ONE FUCKING KNEW GENO WAS GOING TO SIGN. NO ONE LEAKED IT. NO INSIDERS. THE PENS POSTED IT.) and the intent to drive traffic during an intense and, yes, dramatic moment...

I played it the day it was updated (Tuesday) and finished it all in about an hour and a half.

My thoughts on the update under the cut:

So honestly, I was not a fan of this update -- which is part of the reason why I haven't really talked about it much on here.

It felt very underwhelming for a winter update. I understand that Rockstar is going to be releasing a ton of drip-feed content, but from what I've seen so far (from released content to upcoming content), I'm not that excited.

I'm just going to be very honest.

Characters: Dax is annoying as hell. I don't like him at all. I was mostly excited to see Ron but he was only in the introduction cutscene and that's it? We only got a mention of Wade which was disappointing, also.

But yeah, not a fan of Dax. He was (to me) as irritating and badly written as KDJ from the Tuners update. If making a character funny is talking about buttholes every 3 seconds then they need to fire some writers over at Rockstar HQ.

Not a fan of his crew/friends either. Like I said before, annoying.

Plot: Here's where I can go on for hours, and of course this is just my opinion, but here we go.

You have Protag, who is (at this point), EXTREMELY rich and experienced -- a LITERAL Kingpin of Crime. Has done countless heists, raids, etc. Has SAVED THE WORLD -- and you expect me to believe that in 2022 they're doing...THIS?

In what WORLD do you go from top-tier jobs such as Doomsday, The Casino Heist, Cayo, even working with Dre, and then you're suddenly like "yeah I'll just do THIS now"??/1/???? Helping an annoying-ass Seth Rogan wannabe start up an acid lab in LS???

ON TOP OF THAT, Protag LET'S Dax and his crew call them "Fresh meat"???

Listen, I know that GTAO is essentially a choose-your-own adventure. I also understand the concept of Protag being so high-up the ladder that their anonymity is the basis of their Kingpin identity -- and that Dax wouldn't know who they are. But this just doesn't seem like "it" to me.

Honestly, I feel like this was made for teen boys who have an unhealthy addiction to Breaking Bad. I get it, I do. But not for the WINTER FUCKING UPDATE.

Will I check out the drip feed content? Yeah. Am I happy with the update? No.

All in all, I'm disappointed.

But thank you anon for the question because I NEEDED to vent about this.

For the record, @death-in-tight-pants also agrees with all of the above, since we have been bitching about this to each other since Tuesday lmfao.

Kinn is faking everything to trick Tawan:

Kinn is the kind of person who takes the burden all on himself. He took over the family business after his older brother started having mental health issues, even though he didn't actually want to.He always had pressure from his father who always puts work first.

Since ep 5, we see that he is very judgmental over Kinn having any kind of emotional raction to anything, obviously because of what happened with Tawan in the past.

So for him to hear that his dad suggests to keep Tawan there just to take the info he had, made him act like his old mindset, using logic. I'm sure deep down he wants to do both. Have Porsche on his side but also use Tawan for his interest.

He had tawan basically threaten him that if they didn't work together, he would never give him the evidence he had. At the same time he was struggling to not disappoint his father AND figure out what part, if any,  the minor family has in all of this.

Kinn talked in ep 6 about his dream and how he hoped he could ecape all his responsibilities. He has a huge need for freedom and that's the most important thing that Porsche offered him. Freedom for love, fun, laughter.

He was willing to stay in the forest more than going back. And the most important thing he mentioned in this scene was that "he got to be himself once again". Which means that Kinn was once happy, careless, he was smiling and was fun. Porsche gave him that again.

One attitude is real, one is not. And i just know the first one is the real Kinn. He wants to act like he trusts no one but after Porsche and everything they went through, he started letting people in, people like Pete, who were always by his side. 

I'm sure Tankhun being vocal about Tawan finally getting evolved in family matters was definately thought provoking for Kinn. Tankhun is still his big brother and his opinion and view matter in a way.

And he wasn't the only one. Big took the chance to speak up too. We haven't seen it, but he was there through everything Kinn went through with Tawan. He was the first one to notice something was wrong. Kinn knows Big!

Except from one scene, where Tawan manipulated him by going down memory lane, Kinn showed no emotions to him. I just hope now that Porsche didn't go with Vegas cause this would complicate things even more.

In conclusion, Kinn is plotting. Yes he hurt Porsche but it's not the first time we see this scenario. He had to make it believable, so Tawan would reveal his true motives. There is no way after eps 6-7-8, Kinn thinks Porsche betrayed him in any way. I trust him, he will make it right next episode and they will fight side by side.
