why i think uzi doorman is bisexual 🩷💜💙

i made a thread about this on twitter (ivzura) so i will post it on tumblr too

before i start, i want to let everyone know that i am bi and as a bisexual, i notice uzi seems bi coded to me. not sure if any other bisexuals notice or think the same, but these are my thoughts and my perspective

• bi lighting

bisexual lighting are used where bisexual characters are portrayed under the colors of pink, purple and blue to show they’re bisexual

uzi is in a lot of bi lighting, not only once but many times. i take bi lighting very seriously bc it’s not that the lights are bisexuals themselves but it is to show and portray bi characters (there’s more than these but i can’t add more images)

in the knife fight scene from nuzi, the lights are all colorful and flashy, but the moment they had their personal talk, it stopped to a specific color (pink, purple, and blue). when n throwed uzi, the colors went back to being colorful and flashy

in ep 6, when the sentinels flashed at nuzi, you can see there is pink, purple and blue (i can only add one video so when you go rewatch the scene, you will get what i mean). the colors from the sentinals eyes and flash is like blue/white, and notice that there isn’t any pink and purple when looking around. there’s a ss of a sentinals flashing the light towards the audience

which should’ve been the same when flashing towards nuzi but it didn’t, pink, purple and blue appeared. i could also say n is also under those bi lighting bc bi lighting appeared when they’re together, so he seems bi coded to me as well.

• attraction

now, i know ppl will say “but we don’t see uzi blushing to any women characters” not every bi characters have too. bi characters can be confirmed bi and that’s it, it’s still a rep. bi ppl don’t have to date/blush ppl of every single gender to be bi and this happens to canonical bi characters too (luz, marceline, sasha) about how it’s not enough for ppl. it’s always bi characters having to “prove” or not “bi enough” for ppl to accept them as bisexual. mind you, hunter from the owl house is confirmed bi and we don’t see him blushing or dating any guys, however, have a bi patch on his jacket and bi colors from dana’s art. sasha from amphibia only have a bi sticker and is confirmed bi. this can happen the same with uzi (and n) by the lighting and uzi seems to have men/masculine preference. “i don’t feel any sapphic vibes from her” is being bi not sapphic to you? even if bisexuals date the opposite gender, it does not take away being wlw/nblw. bisexuals are still sapphic no matter who we date bc sexuality is about attraction and not dating history. i really need ppl to get rid of that biphobic mindset that bisexual ppl (including characters in media) needs to “prove” themselves that they are bi. most of you don’t even understand bisexuality at all.

we only have 6 episodes and s1 is still not over so don’t expect this to be long. anyway, uzi is bi with men/masculine preference and n is also bi, so nuzi is bi4bi (we need more bi4bi in media). i don’t want ppl to use uzi as a robot as an excuse to be biphobic. “uzi is binary code, her love interest in male, etc.” this is a series called murder drones, all drones have personality, have thoughts, feelings, families, etc. uzi grew WINGS and TAIL, so why can’t she be bi? and n is her love interest but it doesn’t mean she can’t be bisexual. again, bisexuals don’t have to prove to date the same gender to be bi. what’s funny is ppl think she can’t be bi and yet, assume she’s straight (when she has no confirmed sexuality) bc ppl see straight as a default.

i’m rewatching ep 10 and suffering instant brain damage bc i took a second to really look around the captain’s cabin after ed came back from the privateering academy without stede and it is a heartbreaking FEAST (honestly the continuity in this show.. chef’s kiss)

the scene is fairly dark but most things lying around the room seem recognizable, like stede’s blue jacket that he was arrested in that is now a pile of blue silk on the floor next to a chaise longue (something stede would probably have nightmares about) and stede’s yellow robe (i think!) draped over the couch that also has a bed pillow on it which could mean ed slept on it, curled up and wearing the robe or more likely covered with it (same as in the bathtub scene). moving on, because i can’t linger on that thought or i’ll disintegrate into tears, ed obviously brought his old leather outfit back from the academy and you can see parts of it discarded on the floor/tiny chair as if he either dumped it out of the bag, or more likely tried to put it back on and then decided against it seeing as it didn’t fit him anymore, littering the clothes around as he took them off again

a real kicker, though, is the bed and the garment on it. it’s bright blue silk mixed in with the sheets that are rumpled as if the bed had been slept in, pillows arranged in a way as if someone was hugging them. we know from ep9 that the entire room was clean and tidy before they left (meaning the bed was too), so unless izzy had been sleeping in it (very unlikely), that mess has to be ed’s. it’s literal confirmation that he slept in stede’s bed crying into the many pillows on it and hugging silky covers/clothes and i for one am losing my mind about it

once ed goes on a cleaning spree you can see the bed is neatly made with blue silk folded on top (and his leather jacket has upgraded from floor to chair)

(and it’s so tidy like he really enjoys folding stuff and i find that breathtakingly endearing)

anyway, back to my previous point about ed ditching his old leather, his grey pants and white shirt that he got from the academy (continuity!) are thrown over the ottoman next to what appears to be his purple shirt and the discarded leather and black shirt (on the floor). those are the only clothes that we know he owns and both options were clearly a no before he decided on some random 18th century version of sweatpants (that i still wonder who the owner of is because it’s clearly not stede) and stede’s red flower banyan

and lastly (as presented in the 2 pictures above) there is an ungodly amount of discarded marmalade jars all around the room. or what i assume are jars but some could also be big white candles, but let’s go with all of them being marmalade jars because we know stede had unlimited amounts of it and it was one of the first things he’d shared with ed so of course ed would fixate on it to soothe his broken heart, it’s quite literally the sweetest memory of stede and my man was drowning in it

IN CONCLUSION, i’m feeling deranged about all of it. thank you for listening!

hyunsu awakes with a gasp, body jolting upwards. “hyunsu,” you place a gentle hand on his shoulder as he stares at you with wide eyes before slowly relaxing. you pull him into a hug as his eyes scan around in an attempt to figure out where he woke up. it’s a small, quaint room decorated with various flyers hanging from the walls and dim lighting casting a golden glow from the lights hanging above. “you’re awake.”

“what happened?” he asks when you pull away, searching your body for potential injuries. there are patches of dried blood on your face and patches of brown stain on the sleeves of your jacket.

your answer is interrupted when eunhyuk enters. “you’re both fine,” he says. “you fell from the ninth floor and woke up in three hours. maybe the golden hour saved you.” hyunsu stares up at him with wide eyes as you reach over to take his hand into yours. “how do you feel?”

hyunsu raises a hand in front of his face before replying. it’s a little bloody - much like his clothing is - but there are no other injuries on him. not even a bruise. “i think i’m okay.”

“good,” he sighs. “it’s going to be tough from now on.” with the somewhat ominous implication to his words, eunhyuk turns on his heel to call the rest of the residents into the playroom.

hyunsu turns to you once his voice fades away, raising a hand to wipe at a spot of dried blood on your cheek. “are you okay?”

you nod. “i’m just glad you’re feeling alright. you really scared me, you know.”

“i’m sorry,” he murmurs. you simply shake your head, shifting a little closer to him.

you fall into silence; the only sounds are the other residents moving throughout the building and eunhyuk calling for them. hyunsu smiles slightly when you lean your head against his shoulder, relaxing against him.

“whatever happens, we’ll stick together,” he whispers.

you look up at him through tired eyes, exhaustion slowly beginning to show in the form of dark circles underneath your eyes. “you promise?”

he nods, leaning down to press a kiss against your forehead. “i promise.”

the moment is interrupted by eunhyuk returning, silently gesturing for you to follow him out of the room. the other residents stare at you as you follow after him before a man steps forwards. “you’re out of your mind,” he scowls, glaring at eunhyuk before stepping in front of you. hyunsu positions his body in front of yours as the man brandishes a boxcutter at his neck. “don’t you dare turn,” he warns, outstretching the blade. “got it? you fucking monster.”

“got it.” you reply before tugging hyunsu along with you into the playroom with the others. they gather in a group on the opposite side of the room from you and hyunsu, watching you with wide, unnerving eyes.

eunhyuk is the last to enter the room, standing near you as the man slams the boxcutter down on the table. “i say we kill them.”

“what?”

“we can’t do that,” jisu argues.

“it’s for everybody’s safety. let’s not waste our opportunity.”

“y/n,” hyunsu whispers from beside you. he gently cups your cheek with his hand as he gently uses a tissue to wipe away the blood from your nose and chin. it’s a comforting gesture amidst the chaos of monsters suddenly appearing in your apartment building and your suspected infection causing nosebleeds and hallucinations.

you remain silent as the people around you continue arguing, ignoring their terrified looks and nervous glances from the people surrounding you. the argument is finally broken when eunhyuk steps forwards to take charge once again.

“here,” he says, setting a box down on the table. “we’ll take a vote,” he says as he holds up a stack of post it notes. “if you agree that they should be allowed to stay, draw an x. if we should quarantine them, draw a circle.”

your attention returns to hyunsu as eunhyuk begins passing out pieces of paper. he’s staring down at the ground as you nervously await your fate together. you reach over to take his hand into yours, intertwining your fingers together.

once everyone has voted, he begins to open them one by one. you zone the words out in favor of playing with your boyfriend’s fingers. it’s a habit you had picked up after he was hospitalized for the car accident. it had put him unconscious for a few days and you spent the time tracing miscellaneous shapes into his soft skin.

you nearly flinch when the man who threatened you begins yelling again. “are you all fucking crazy?” he looks down at you before turning to face the group. “they’re monsters! they’ll kill us all!”

you look up just long enough to watch eunhyuk open another vote - x. “don’t get worked up yet,” eunhyuk says. “the last vote will determine what we do.”

hyunsu squeezes your hand in his as eunhyuk reaches into the box to open the final vote. his eyebrows furrow slightly before he turns it around to show the group. on the piece of paper is a red circle with an x through it. “invalid.”

“no way,” the man hisses. he steps forwards, angrily grabbing the paper from eunhyuk’s hands before throwing it down onto the ground. “we have to get rid of them! murder is killing a human being, not a monster!” you step back when he shoves the table over, watching as it hits the ground with a loud crash.

a silence falls over the room before the sound of dripping catches your attention. “honey,” a woman whispers in disbelief. the slow dripping quickly turns into streams of blood staining the wooden floor. the man brings his hands up to his nose in a poor attempt to stop the bleeding as everyone looks on in horror.

“it’s…” he steps closer to the group who retract away as soon as he gets close. “it’s because i’m tired! that’s all!”

hyunsu stands up from beside you, stepping in front of the man. “you better brace yourself if you don’t want to get eaten by a monster.” the man’s cursing falls on deaf ears as he kneels down to grab a vote from the floor. “do i have the right to vote?” he holds the paper over the opened box before pausing. “if i put this in, he’ll be thrown out too, right?” his eyes have turned to a familiar shade of black when he turns back to face the man. “am i right?”

the man collapses to the ground as hyunsu drops the vote into the box before walking back over to where you’re still sitting. he helps you up before intertwining your fingers once again as you follow eunhyuk into the room where you’ll be quarantined.

you sit beside hyunsu on a couch as eunhyuk lowers the gate, locking you inside of the room. there isn’t much inside - only the couch, a few file cabinets, and some other miscellaneous items like a trash can. there are no lights so you settle for sitting in darkness, your only source of lighting coming from the hallway where you can see a variety of people have gathered together; though you’re not sure if they’re standing around to watch over you or eavesdrop on whatever you’re saying.

“do you really think we’ll turn into monsters?” you whisper. hyunsu looks over at you before reaching over to grab your hand.

“i don’t know what will happen to us,” he answers after a few seconds of silence. “but i know i made you a promise. and i’m not going to break it.”

for what feels like the first time in days, you smile. it’s small, but the sight of it is enough to bring a similar one to hyunsu’s own face. he reaches over to cup your cheek with his hand, brushing his thumb against the skin. despite knowing the other residents are just outside of the room staring at you, he pulls you into a sweet kiss. it’s short though neither of you mind.

he presses another kiss against your forehead as you let out a small sigh, leaning your head against his chest and letting your eyes close. “tired?” he whispers.

you hum. hyunsu shifts, keeping your body close to his as he lays down on the couch beside you. you move even closer to him to bury your face into the crook of his neck. his arms wrap around your waist as he rubs a gentle hand against your back. “i love you,” he murmurs.

“i love you too,” you hum, finally relaxing into your lover’s arms.

ok it's not actually as epic✨ as i thought it would be but here is my episode-title prediction but it's very rough and in note form and no doubt is all over the place and pls feel free to discuss in the replies and ill amend accordingly,,, PLUS i need to go through it again in more detail cross referencing my sideburn theory bc some things might actually belong in other episodes and yeah im exhausted from the sheer speed at which i pulled this together fucking enJOY

(note: now contains mention of the leak, proceed w caution)

1. THE ARRIVAL

main storyline summary:

OKAY SO LETS START with this article on mr g's blog - scroll to the last two paragraphs - potentially see pre-fall heaven or the immediate moments before/after the fall which when you consider the opening credits begin with crowley climbing out of the pit/aziraphale descending from heaven, AND the BEAUTIFUL (this isn't being discussed enough imo) fall sequence in the hillywood parody, im tentatively suggesting that we might have a cold open of the fall

✨✨MURIEL PERSPECTIVE ON THE FALL?????✨✨

sosososo in the trailer obvs crowley and muriel are jn heaven and muriel says "you're a demon!!! // im going to get into so much trouble!!!" so WHAT IF DURING THE FALL THEY SMUGGLED CROWLEY OUT OF HEAVEN TO AVOID THE CONFLICT???? and crowley took like the back staircase down so he didn't fall so violently and got to keep his wings and *GUNSHOT* ok so im only like maybe 5% certain it's a flashback after ive rewatched that bit of the trailer oooh maybe 26 times but sTILL imaGINE yeah don't think this anymore, send me an ask if you want to know why bc i cba to write a post explaining

and then presumably a segue? into the first few events ive listed in this post about the start of the second coming idk it might actually be a flashback in another episode hmm yeah actually that seems more likely but anyway

then - present day, gabriel arrives on earth, lost memory/human, "something terrible" in the box that he was meant to deliver to aziraphale (?) that going by that second coming (SC) post i think literally contains jesus

ok update after the gumshoe az pics: so if gabriel is connected to the pub, and by the extension the jukebox, it must be the record that arrives in the box with the address attached, and aziraphale starts looking into it from there????? idk see ep 2

crowley gets evicted, then crowley and shax interaction in the park

presumably an introduction to maggie and nina, plus the "naked man friend" clip

discovery of gabriel at the bookshop, and ensuing argument leading to crowley summoning lightning, and the boys going no contact sob

2. THE CLUE

main storyline summary:

*edit because my draft didn't save properly and ive only just noticed - believe that this ep has the job minisode

SO following the newest pic release of crowley and aziraphale and the record, which ive gone off about here, i think that the skip doesn't quite happen yet BUT aziraphale obvs has the record which i think god has sent him as a clue and then goes to find crowley to talk about it ✨A cLuE✨ but crowley tells him to fuck off

also crowley is a bartender

THEN we have a present-day time skip, gabriel being a very good assistant in the shop

again after the SC theory i think that gabriel lost the box and instead god somehow sends aziraphale the record and address as a clue

aziraphale (unsure of the genesis here) starts researching the jukebox and the everyday song, presumably buys the record from maggie

aziraphale in the bookshop, looking at the jukebox articles, crowley storms in, "im back" see below!!!

THEN second time aziraphale approaches crowley, pub drink ft crowley in jeans and a nice top™ which i think is actually his work top™, then the clip ✨a cLuE✨

crowley and shax in the bentley having a heart to heart, and i worry that she essentially tempts him into luring goob out of the shop so hell can get to him and crowley can get back his precious 😭 peaceful 😭 existence with aziraphale EDIT FOLLOWING THIS!!! I think she definitely tells him to get chummy with aziraphale again

AND NOW we have the "im back" scene

possibly the beelzebub clip from them in hell? possibly an interaction between them and shax? beelzebub manifests as a fly and plays a game of tag in the bookshop with goob, trying to make up for their failure in losing track of jesus

at some point the other angels come to the bookshop to interrogate aziraphale for if he has seen gabriel, believes he's lying, and resolve to send in their ✨top agent✨

3. I KNOW WHERE I’M GOING

main storyline summary:

✨MURIEL MY BELOVED✨

whole "cup of tea" scene, plus crowley removing plants from the bentley "why don't you go by train? you love trains"

possibly muriel feeding back to heaven with her report about aziraphale, his grumpy friend, and his assistant 💓

aziraphale off up to edinburgh in the bentley, possibly crowley has stayed behind to babysit gabriel? (i feel like the 'are you a bookseller too? / not even at gunpoint' interaction was a bit foreshadow-y)

UPDATE: WHY IS GABRIEL CONNECTED TO THE JUKEBOX MYSTERY?? WAS THE RECORD IN FACT IN THE BOX??? AND ITS SOMEHOW LINKED TO HOW GABRIEL LOST HIS MEMORY??? IM SO CONFUSED

still confused but see above SC theory

was the resurrectionist address already taped to the record when it arrived in the box? NOBODY KNOWSSS

UPDATE 2 re: the meme template prime just gave us: so what IF AZIRAPHALE goes to the pub, asks if theyve seen goob, the pub owner (who is in the meme) says "shhhhh I have some intel meet me at the graveyard at 6", aziraphale goes and they show him a pic of gabriel in the pub like removing the everyday record from the jukebox? bc gabriel removed it and that's why the jukebox is now stuck on that song??? AGHHH now I'm wondering if the pub people got a video of the graveyard fight or a pic of the box or something and that gives aziraphale the indication that the whole thing is centred around the second coming

shax possibly knows that crowley is there, and calls the bookshop? or crowley calls heaven to narc on gabriel? OR aziraphale calls him from the phone crowley possibly lent him and idk but a conversation along the lines "hey crowley so i think a fight with demons caused goob to lose his memory and lmao but i think he also lost jesus!!!

either way crowley uses aziraphale's phone specifically and is obviously looking intently at something

and lastly again i think this has the resurrectionist minisode - fitting given that they decked out a pub in edinburgh with resurrectionist signs etc so that probably triggers a flashback for az when he goes there for the jukebox mystery

4. THE HITCHHIKER

no official press photos for this one as far as i know , but possibly????

main storyline summary:

first, *SLAMS HAND ON TABLE* 🚨40s MINISODE🚨

i think however that this is where muriel is back on earth, potentially rooting around greek street trying to be as nosy as possible

and crowley now loaded in with info hot off the press (lmao aziraphale) knows that the second coming is involved and realises he needs to get into heaven to find out more info which is so james bond of him what a legend

and then WELL WHADDAYA KNOW muriel turns up and therefore im wondering if the above is from crowley's pov - muriel spots him in the shop and gets a tad excited

LITA Ep 3 Rewatch Thoughts

Hi friends! Here we are at ep 3, and these posts are getting longer by the episode so grab a lil snack and some water if you want <3 I had to make a part 2 because the number of images got to be too many (linked here and below)

The opening continues to slap (plus I think I've listened to it enough times I think I can sing along with the chorus despite not knowing more than 8 Thai words)

I'm dyingggg - Phayu says "I'm still waiting Rain" but bro, it's only been like 10 hours since the declaration of love-war, please calm down

Oops I realized I haven't been mentioning the episode titles - this one is so cute! 'I like Rain, and I'm not talking about the weather" but tbf this should have been episode 1's title

Also Rain and I are equally dumb (I'm including myself here bc if I didn't already know Prapai and Sky were going to have a storyline I probably wouldn't have assumed he liked guys right off the bat) - Sky didn't even flinch when Rain writes down his mission to court Phayu (a guy) and immediately writes down the first tactic. WHICH incidentally is "show up in front of him every day". It's pretty full-circle that Prapai uses this same tactic to woo Sky later on, isn't it? (I also didn't notice that until right now so wow these rewatch posts are helping my analysis skills lmao)

Look at my determined son!! He's gonna get his mans!! (Sky's looking a little skeptical tho)

Ah Sig my beloved other son who has a single braincell bouncing around in his head like a DVD player screensaver

The Rain-at-the-garage montage contains so many cute shots but this would get too long if I put every single one in, so let's focus on the first meeting with the brothers-in-law (P'Saifah and Rain). How much must Phayu have described Rain for P'Saifah to instantly know who he is on sight? Also P'Saifah probably reported back to Phayu immediately and I'm kinda sad we don't get to see that convo.

I didn't catch this until now but they also foreshadowed Rain missing a deadline in the next scene. Sky tells Rain to finish his work but as soon as Phayu texts him, Rain runs out of the room without having done anything.

Listen, I love P'Aon and his matchmaking skills ok??

Look at Rain, he's trying so hard to be polite with the P'Phayu and the khrap - what a good boy! It's taking everything in him tho lmaooo

The conversation that comes right after this between P'Saifah and Rain is pretty interesting. I love how the narrative keeps trying to tell us that Phayu is some sort of dangerous fellow when all he's done is be a model student and mechanic and teach college freshmen good manners. Could he maybe learn a little something about physical boundaries? Perhaps, but maybe it's just how kind-looking Boss is, but I never got any sense of danger from Phayu, and esp not towards Rain. Rain's reaction to hearing presumably about Phayu's past relationships is quite on-point, and really cements the stubborn and determined attitude he takes towards getting Phayu to like him. It's how we as the audience know he's gonna be successful.

Next up, Phayu arrives in all his fashionably-late glory. This part has me smirking every time because he walks in all suave and stuff but approximately 7 seconds into Rain's pouting he immediately drops all pretenses and becomes so squishy and soft

I LOVE this exchange between them - again, we are getting a full picture of their early relationship dynamics. Phayu has expectations that Rain's gonna be different, and Rain's telling him he's gonna meet those expectations, and Phayu's satisfied "ah just as I thought" face makes an appearance.

I absolutely adore this expression on Rain/Noeul - it's so subtle but powerful

Yay dinner date!! Phayu is taking so many mental notes right here (also pls note this is the same face Rain is making right above)

Phayu is way too good at pressing Rain's buttons omg - he really got Rain to do this with like a single sentence of teasing (tbf Rain is pretty impulsive tho so I'm not surprised)

The poor serviceperson was like pls let me go

Phayu goes through this episode looking wayyy too satisfied imo

But Rain actually does have nice manners - he gave Phayu the utensils and bowl first and does say thank you

This smile should be illegal actually bc it is stealing my heart and soul

And we get another instance of Phayu being very not immune to Rain's pout (this time he doesn't even get to pout for 3 whole seconds before concerned Phayu is feeding him and patting his mouth with a napkin)

We get some more foreshadowing that Rain is going to miss a deadline

ok THIS. These small gestures that Phayu does for Rain have me swooning just as much as their intimate scenes. Something about that sentence is grammatically incorrect but you get my point, right? They could have easily not included them (and idk if these were even scripted) but they make the relationship that much sweeter and believable.

"learn the history. find kill the founder" we didnt really learn much history in generation 1. this is... a call to action for US, for the next parts. to keep watching and figure out the lore. so in the end we can know enough to kill the founder....? SURELY HAHA

Hey, it's me again! Bc I loved how insightful your posts about Olek and Ling Yi were, showing you clearly think deeply about the show, I would like to ask you something outside the couple, if that is okay! So, I was rewatching Ep 3 (I have a severe case of brainrot for the two lovebirds) and something that Eyk said about the ships messed me up. He said the company bought 3 German ships. We have Kerberos and Prometheus, but who do you think is the third? I almost lost it. Could it be important?

@inferubim hello hello again, i'm so glad we are all still foaming at the mouth over this show.

i don’t know if the third ship itself is important, but the fact that there are three ships is important, and that importance is twofold: first, it continues the show’s central theme around triangles, and second, the ships themselves serve as a clever bit of foreshadowing for the plot.

triangles are obviously a huge part of the show, both literally and metaphorically. you have the ship company’s logo being the triangle with the line through it (the alchemical symbol for earth) and that symbol is repeated throughout the show in the set and costume design. we see the symbol tattooed behind elliot’s ear, and later on in the “present,” we see it tattooed on maura as well.

the characters are also grouped into sets of three, but never equally. there is an imbalance in each trio, and while that is certainly just a fact of human relationships, given the context of this show, i think it’s an intriguing detail we can’t overlook. maura’s first family unit is with henry and ciaran and her father prefers her to her brother. her second family unit is with daniel and elliot - she doesn’t remember either of them and the two of them are working together to change the simulation, and henry later tells elliot that daniel will always pick maura over him. maura has a love triangle with daniel and eyk and while she is married to daniel, she arguably has a stronger connection with eyk. speaking of the captain, he has three daughters but nina is clearly his favorite as she’s the only one he calls out to by name over and over again. clemence is married to lucien but has an instant connection to jerome and jerome and lucien have a shared history and secret from the war. krester, tove, and ada are siblings with krester and tove being much closer in age to each other than they are to ada. ramiro and angel are lovers but angel is tempted by krester. ling yi and yuk je are both employed by and at the mercy of virginia wilson. i could keep going but i won’t, and i should mention that of all the main characters, olek is the only one who doesn’t have this dynamic. he does have a brief scene with the two stokers, but that’s really it. instead, he has two strong duos - his partnership with jerome and his relationship with ling yi. this may or may not be significant, but when you take a step back and see all the other trios happening on the ship, olek’s lack of one really sticks out even more.

there’s also the fact that more or less everything significant to the plot is presented in a set of three. the three items that can alter the simulation - the pyramid, the remote control, and the lockpicking bug (alfred, you’re doing amazing sweetie). the three distinct time periods - 1899, the 70s/80s look of henry’s office, elliot’s bunker, the soundtrack, etc., and 2099. the three times we see the words “wake up” - on the memorial cross, on the stone pyramid, and on the toy pyramid. and of course, the fleet of three ships that started it all.

which brings me to my second point - the ships and their names directly tie into the events of the first season. prometheus is a titan who stole fire from the gods and gave it to mankind, giving them knowledge and technology, and it’s only after discovering the prometheus that maura and eyk gain the knowledge that there is something deeply wrong about both ships and their entire reality. kerberos is a computer protocol that provides authentication and allows a server and user to identify each other and it was named after cerberus, the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld. many of the passengers on the kerberos are hiding their own and discovering each other’s true identities, and in the last episode, the remaining survivors end up in an afterlife of sorts in the graveyard with all the other failed simulations. i love little details like this when you reach the end of a story and then realize all the breadcrumbs the creators left starting from the beginning. and fun fact, in episode 1, we learn that the prometheus had 1,423 passengers, and in episode 2, we learn that the kerberos has 1,612. which means the kerberos has an additional 189 passengers. i know we’re missing a whole digit, but come on, what a great detail!

i’ll end with this - cerberus’s three heads are said to represent the past, present, and future. you have prometheus as the past, kerberos as the present, and the unnamed third ship as the future. but is that a happy future where everyone is free of the simulation or is that future simply a return to the beginning of the loop as the cycle begins anew? despite ciaran welcoming maura to “reality” in 2099, the fact that they are once again on a vessel named prometheus also with 1,423 passengers should at least make us consider the possibility that they have simply traded environments, swapping a steamship for a spaceship. so perhaps we end at the beginning where the future is the past. after all, a triangle can always fit a circle inside it and vice versa.

something I've been mulling over a lot: why doesn’t rue know wuvvy loves them? why don’t they recognize that her devotion is romantic? part of why rue doesn't notice is bc wuvvy didnt want them to. if u rewatch the first few eps with the reading that wuvvy has romantic love for rue, you can see how she facilitates and maintains their professional relationship. and i think part of that impulse comes from the status their professional relationship affords her, not necessarily with the court of wonder, but more like, her status in rue's life.

with a codified relationship she is constantly being affirmed and her value is clear; if wuvvy was to confess her feelings for rue, all she would have to go on is trust. and when you love someone that quietly for that long, when you don't even dare to make suggestions or state your opinion for fear that it may be contrary or displeasing to the object of your devotion, i think it's clear that you don't trust them. wuvvy worships rue, that much is clear, but she does not feel confident enough in her claim to them to disrupt their relationship. it suits her! it has suited her for a very long time. she's comfortable with what she means to them, in their context, and she wants rue to think of her as perfect and perfectly loyal so that sense of value is maintained.

which is why like. rue was only now developing feelings for her! we the audience can see that they are looking for someone who understands them and their feelings of displacement. we can assume that this is something wuvvy does experience but chooses not to show, and that it’s somewhat tempered by her (earned / deserved) place next to rue -- wuvvy left behind adoration and admiration in her court to adore and admire rue, right? and rue, presumably known to be an owlbear at the time, accepted that as a friend. it would take millennia by their side, feeling displaced in that friendship, for wuvvy to become the person that they were looking for. but again, those feelings are twisted up in the need to prove her value to rue, so she hides right next to them.

that said, i think rue would have fallen for her long before the bloom we met them at. but only with a confession. and wuvvy is not a person who wants to confess anything.

OF COURSE i need to talk about liam at least once a day or i explode

ive been spending a lot of time trying to like COMPLETELY figure out his personality bc its so subtle (WHICH is certainly at least somewhat intentional) and so far its like. every time i rewatch one i find AANOTHER aspect of his personality i didnt notice

for example this guy does NOT seem confrontational by nature. like many times in s1 when airy is fucking things up liam is like. um no thanks :) . it rly looks like his go-to in stressful situations is to wait things out, and the only reason he starts to deviate from this is bc it v much starts to be clear that this situation is Not smth he can wait out. his interacts w bryce and airy in s2 VERY much come across as like... this is not his usual pace and that alone is a key factor in him being So Extremely Stressed. he wants to get the others out as fast as possible and the fact that thats NOT smth he can simply wait out is NOT helping. hes confrontational as a last resort and a last resort only

(side note that the only times he seems to get verbally pissed off w ppl is when theyre being hypocritical, ignoring key details, etc. thatperson has also mentioned him being very practical? and i think thats accurate. like i think if someone asked him abt the trolley problem hed end up begrudgingly picking to save the group of ppl; he would LOVE if everyone is saved, but i think under stress/extreme conditions he sometimes relies on a very Autism sense of Numerically, What Is The Most Beneficial Outcome?)

im also?? working on a far too indepth essay post (it is currently at 659 words) and like. the post is specifically regarding Why He Acts How He Does In Ep 18, and?? i have to go back over it again to check, but the topic of Him Being Angry is a factor but not the main point so since im tqalking abt his personality rn ill put it here, is that??? he does NOT get mad easily. even when he argues w bryce im p sure its bc bryce has a more emotional response to things than he does (important note, that bryce was very good at talking to oscar while liam wasnt!! despite them often being seen like pessimistic logical person and optimistic emotional person, im pretty sure its the OPPOSITE, it simply looks the other way bc the situation highlights their personalities in a Very Interesting Way) and liam is stressed so he does NOT rly Get It. i dont think hes even angry at bryce half of the time during most of the arguments. liam seems to naturally say many things that could be taken as being rude to say wo them being intended as such and i think that extends to arguing. i think during aarguments he is simply Loud bc "ahhhh people need to LISTEN to me and volume does that" though i need to keep looking into this more so this interpretation of liam is potentially subject to change

my very long, incoherent, unedited, unnecessarily rambly throughts rewatching utsukushii kare s2 ep. read at your own expense 👍

I find hira’s beginning monologue so interesting, how he says saying I like you is hard to say out loud and yet he so easily says things that are way bigger than that and show so much more commitment and devotion, and he gives it away in his actions too. idk if it’s that he separates them in his head, like kiyoi being his king and kiyoi being someone he likes are two separate things of he thinks those things don’t give away his feelings, again maybe bc he doesn’t connect them. it’s just so interesting. god I wanna know how his brain operates.

also what he says about greed, being content to just watch from afar but people are greedy, and courage, ‘the sin of touching god, pretending that it’s courage’, god I love that line. the sin is his greed, that he thinks he disguises as having the courage to… confess I guess? like he wasn’t actually, in his mind, brave enough to say he likes kiyoi, instead he sees it as his greed winning over. he sees touching kiyoi, being with him, as something bad, sinful, something he doesn’t do, as it breaks his established king and servant dynamic. he shouldn’t have the right, and yet he wants it too much to listen to himself. that’s the whole hypocritical, paradoxical thing about it. he’s set the rules in his mind and he’s the one breaking them and telling himself it’s bad, when none of that is true, it’s all just cooked up in his head. the sin is the lie and the courage is the reality, he really was brave enough to show his feelings even just enough for them to register with kiyoi, that there’s real love there thats not religious devotion, and the bravery will keep coming as he chooses to let himself live in that reality instead of a world in his head that punishes himself.

I just love that kiyoi’s inherent love language is ‘ew you’re gross’, bc it’s so easy for hira to take it literally but also still love it and understand what it means. and I love that kiyoi only truly gets mad when he perceives hira to be unsure about something between them or regret it or want to take it back. like when he says ‘I was too persistent’, that’s what angers kiyoi, the self doubt, bc what they did isn’t something kiyoi views badly at all. it only makes him mad when he things hira views it that way. you can even see the difference between that fake and real anger, when hira calls him cute and he goes back to calling him gross, which we know is a sign of affection, kiyoi just gets too blushy to compute and has to bail before his feelings get out. also, you can see there’s no real fear, that it’s all more playful, bc when kiyoi threatens, hira doesn’t cower, he loves it more, and isn’t afraid to say that, no matter what kiyoi has threatened to do. he can’t help it, he just finds the threat of murder too cute when it comes from early morning, sweater paws kiyoi

the fact hira says ‘every day wanes and waxes’ only to at the end talk about how he feels stuck on that 14th stage of the waxing moon. again, it’s contradictory. he knows time passes, he knows that phase will end, but he doesn’t see that kiyoi. maybe he finds comfort in being stuck in his familiar place, the role he set for himself, maybe he can’t imagine making progress, having a reality where he is with kiyoi, for real. but the moon is already full, he just needs to step into reality and not be stuck in that picture.

also I love that the people in his photography club don’t give him a chance to explain it’s not the full moon and just talk over him, but kiyoi gives him the space to speak and explain himself. it shows kiyoi’s understanding of him, and hira’s comfort to be more confident and let himself speak. and there’s something nice about how everyone else is just gonna see a full moon, but hira and kiyoi will see that piece missing, that bit of imperfection. I think that’s quite a nice analogy for their relationship.

love that they say hira was teasing them and koyama just looks like ‘??? hira??? yeah, sure jan’

huh?? im watching this on Viki whereas I watched it previously on gagaoolala and the subtitles here are different. the meaning hasn’t been too off so far, but here it changes the meaning completely. on gagaoolala it says kiyoi was supportive of hira staying in the club, but on viki it says hira wanted to support kiyoi so he stayed. does anyone with some kind of grasp of Japanese know which one of these is right?????

apart from viki subtitles being weird (super calm instead of super cool???) I absolutely love this line, where kiyoi says how much he wants to try and be better and improve and he’s called cool for it. as someone who always had to hide that ambition and desire in him, to see him not only pursue his dreams but also be told that makes him so cool, i fucking love that. at school, it’s cool to mess about and not care, but actually caring is the coolest thing you can do

I. fucking. LOVE. possessive and protective kiyoi. it’s just one of my weaknesses, the whole i can shit on him as much as I want but if anyone else says a word against him there will be blood. it’s just. agh it’s so good. hira is someone who no one ever cared about or stood up for, and yet here’s this big, cool, popular, hot guy that sees red whenever someone says anything slightly bad against him. I just think it would send hira insane if he knew just how possessive kiyoi can be.

again there’s something so contradictory about how hira obsesses over kiyoi on screen and is not shy about it, he doesn’t try to hide what he was doing or anything, and yet he still remains so careful around kiyoi. as he said, he’s happy to watch at a distance, and it’s like he almost doesn’t realise what his reality is. he has kiyoi right there, he can see him, speak to him, touch him whenever he wants and yet he not only consumes him at a distance but actively maintains the gap. it’s like he just doesn’t get the truth that is right there. kiyoi is his, he doesn’t need to keep this separation up, yet somehow he does, either consciously or unconsciously, it’s his brain written rules that he needs to get over.

this bit!!!!! when kiyoi wants to be fed and hira just holds up the plate and gives him chopsticks. you can tell that kiyoi wants hira to feed him, it’s cute and romantic, and funnily enough it’s an act of service which fits in with hira’s perceived role, and yet he still doesn’t see himself worthy of doing so, as if touching the food his king will eat is something so impossible he doesn’t even consider it.

behind it all, this is just kiyoi dressing his boyfriend up to look cute and hot and model clothes for him and I love that.

also I love this small moment where kiyoi goes to put the hat on him, the kind of hat hira wears when he’s in his stalker mode with the glasses, the height of his subservience, and instead takes it off and pushes his hair back. it’s like he’s saying you don’t need to be that, you can be you, and let everyone see that. it’s so small and subtle but the meaning of it, that he wants hira to have the confidence to be himself, to let that out and show it off, that he thinks he’s cool and hot and amazing and wants to show him off. agh. I just can’t.

and the way he says nothing could ever bring me this much happiness, but all it also brings me fear (I think the gagaoolala subtitles were ‘all I remember is fear’ which I like more), it shows that this should make him happy, the happiest he’s ever been, having kiyoi this close, like this. so why does it terrify him? hira’s fear running throughout this ep is kiyoi leaving him, breaking up with easily him at the drop of a hat, so it’s as if, by being this close to him, that fear consumes him, is all he can think of. but I think that fear is only there bc of how he views their relationship, still stuck in their king and servant roles. he knows he shouldn’t be doing this, that this should be impossible, almost that he’s lucky and should be grateful for this but not expect it to last, bc he should never be allowed near the king for long, it’s not right. again, his brain is saying one day he’ll wake up and see you for what you are, below him, and leave you. but hira, and only hira, puts himself in that place. the truth is what hira really is is human, on kiyoi’s level. and what’s more, kiyoi is the one that we see later doesn’t want hira to leave him. he has this fear too, but for him it’s a fear of loneliness. it’s so interesting that their fear comes from these two different places but manifests the same. hira thinks kiyoi is always on the edge of leaving him, but kiyoi begs not to be left alone. they’re both terrified of it ending, when neither one of them ever would.

kiyoi’s face at 12:12 exactly. the disgust. the anger. the ‘how dare you’ of it all. and then he gets hira to feed him (still not physically touching his food) just to flex, to show ownership. man, that’s my shit.

I also find it interesting that hira is so afraid of an end, even death, that is so far away, and so unlikely in the moment, that it consumes him to the point that he can’t actually live and enjoy the moment, the fact he has kiyoi. again, he’s right there but, despite all his devotion, it’s like he doesn’t actually see kiyoi, and I can see how that would get to and annoy and hurt kiyoi the most. and he even says it. ‘Don’t live in your own world. We’re hanging out in this one’

also that he says a world without kiyoi is like death but after high school, when they didn’t see each other, he did not in fact die. but I can’t expect hira to be logical at all.

this is the bit that underpins how they are so good for each other. kiyoi wanting to support hira, not for support sake but because it’s true. that doesn’t reach hira, he thinks it’s just kindness and charity, that it’s not sincere. but kiyoi is sincere, and continues to be, but when it goes over that point, when kiyoi gets close to saying he thinks hira is handsome, and that he likes that, and hira starts to see that for what it is and not just comfort, that’s when kiyoi bails. he can’t face being that honest, but the honestly is what hira needs. they need each other. it’s right there.

and it’s there in that line too. when kiyoi calls him cool, but hira doesn’t believe him. kiyoi asks if hira thinks he’s lying, which of course his answer is no. his king would never lie, that’s bad and he’s not a bad person, he could never be. which means hira’s only feasible option is to believe him, but that goes against everything he thinks of himself, and that’s where it all starts to crumble. hira can’t love and adore kiyoi and think he’s a bad person, so when kiyoi says good things about him, he has no option but to believe them, but to believe them means he’s not the person or role he’s set for himself, so the king and servant think falls apart and hira has to face that he’s a human being equal to everyone else. that’s where the whole thing collapses, and that’s why no one else can do that for hira but kiyoi.

the same thing happens! kiyoi being flirty and suggestive only for hira to unknowingly shut it down which makes kiyoi upset. and I love this bit about him not being desperate anymore, bc hira really is so wrapped up in his head thinking kiyoi will abandon him at a moments notice to realise the real reason kiyoi is mad is bc he thinks hira doesn’t like him as much anymore, isn’t desperate, he’s grown accustomed and bored, which is so the opposite. if anything, kiyoi here accidentally fosters that godly worship, like you used to fall at my feet before and do whatever I wanted, what’s changed? And hira easily reassures that’s nothings changed, that he’s exactly that, which keeps them stuck. but the thing is kiyoi almost needs that devotion, needs hira to sacrifice himself to him for him to break down his walls. Kiyoi is the only reason hira can bring himself out of his comfort zone, so he’s simultaneously keeping hira locked in his head but pushing him into the world. it’s interesting, and I can’t wait to see how it turns out, and which one wins over the other

‘I gotta do my best’. I screamed. Again, it’s the crux of why they’re good for each other. Beneath all the panic and anxiety hira is feeling, what pushes him through is I’ve gotta do my best. Why? For kiyoi of course. He has to do his best so kiyoi doesn’t look bad, bc kiyoi brought him here so he doesn’t want to disappoint him. As I said, it’s his devotion to kiyoi that gives him the courage to go out of his comfort zone.

What’s great about this scene is how they characterise this woman and what she says, how she comes onto hira. It’s almost like she voices all the worries hira would have in a social situation like this, ‘you made them mad, they don’t like you, you were rude’. And then she tries to pretend she understands, that that’s what makes them similar. But it’s not true, no one thinks that, and Hira isn’t like that at all. she comes onto him with falsity, which is a great parallel for Kiyoi, who does understand, who gets him, and knows him. She voices everything Hira would think about himself while Kiyoi is the one encouraging him, complimenting him, trying to make him think better of himself. The way he does it is more hostile to the naked eye, but the intention, the meaning is anything put.

Hira is right. Kiyoi is about to murder someone. It’s just not him.

Also again it’s classic nonsensical hira to see Kiyoi get jealous and possessive and think oh god he’s gonna leave me.

I’m sorry, I just love pouty Kiyoi stamping through the house with Hira rushing after him. He’s a baby. I love him.

And then when they talk about it, Hira believes that woman, bc of course he would, bc it’s what he believes of himself. And to see Kiyoi, that is so mad with his possessiveness, and mad that Hira doesn’t get it, still try to correct him, even reassure him that he is wrong, he wasn’t out of place. It’s like he’s doubly mad that the woman came onto him and that she made him think like that, or even triply mad that Hira believed her and cared what she thought. She shouldn’t matter, he matters, how he feels seeing a woman coming onto hira matters, but hira doesn’t think about that bc he doesn’t see himself as important, let alone someone that could affect kiyoi’s feelings that much. I can see why it’s maddening for Kiyoi, to care and want to get mad while hira just doesn’t get it, knowing it’s bc he thinks so little of himself. how can you be mad when it’s not someone’s fault they lack self worth? agh it all just stacks on top of each other and I can’t wait to see them unravel it all.

And I kinda love that it’s not even possible for Hira to think of himself as someone that can flirt, or someone that can even be come on to. It’s like Kiyoi wants Hira to be himself and be confident, so he dresses him up to make him look cool, then he gets flirted with and he instantly regrets it. He simultaneously wants to show him off but keep him to himself, which is fantastic bc Hira just sees himself as a burden or a stain on the kings image. It’s impossible for kiyoi to think of him like that but he does and he just has to figure out how to compute that.

This. MOMENT. Kiyoi just saying ‘I went a bit far yesterday’. Like… idk that just really gets to me. Bc I so see where he’s coming from, I see how he can be frustrated with Hira, and he has every right to feel what he feels, he can be jealous and possessive, that happens in relationships. yes, it’s classic Kiyoi, so of course everything is more dramatic, but the fact he has the heart, the guilt, the maturity to admit that he went too far, I just love him for that. His patience with Hira is something I so appreciate, bc it comes from a place of such love and care. Hira is someone hard to be patient with. He has a lot to overcome, especially in terms of how he views their relationship. Kiyoi does too, but the fact he says this shows he’s consciously taking steps to be better. His feelings can be a lot sometimes and they don’t always manifest well, but recognizing that is such progress for him, and it’s the first sign of real maturity in their relationship. It’s what makes me love them and this show. The mess, the dramatics, all of it, it’s not for show, it’s not to heighten, instead it has this basis that grounds it of two people struggling and learning to express their feelings, and at least one of them now acknowledges that struggle. And I’m so proud of Kiyoi for that.

And when he says ‘I get weird when it’s about you’. Yeah. That’s kiyoi language for ‘I care about you’. Plain and simple. Bc what’s evident is that nothing can send Kiyoi into madness like Hira can, Hira himself or anything concerning or to do with Hira. And it’s bc he cares. It’s bc he loves him. It’s the old ‘ppl act crazy when they’re in love’, i just think Kiyoi is still getting to grips with just how huge and deep his feelings for Hira are.

Oh, and another thought about the moon thing. Maybe it’s not about what’s missing, maybe it’s about Hira feeling like he’s always on the edge of something complete, like just before a full moon. But he stays connected to screens and pictures and cameras and still images, when in fact life is moving around him, and the moon is already full.

Or as Hira says ‘I love him so much, it’s never enough’. Maybe that’s the basis of his construction of Kiyoi comes from, someone so deserving of love that he can’t possibly give it all himself, he’s not capable of giving him all the love he deserves, it’s too much. But again, just like how he’s stuck in the image, in the real world, his love is enough, it’s more than enough, it’s all Kiyoi needs. Just him, the full moon.

And we see that Kiyoi is getting through. Hira says ‘you’re teaching me things about myself I never knew’. Hira really is finding himself. And with any discovery, you kinda have to go on the long, messy journey before you get there. I just love that this scene acknowledges that within that mess, there’s progress being made.

And right there at the end. Kiyoi’s fear of being alone. But the thing is it’s not about Hira being a lifeline or that single person. Kiyoi has always been surrounded by people that gravitate towards him, he’s naturally popular, yet he’s always still felt lonely. But what makes him act weird, what’s foreign and new for him, is that with Hira, he’s not lonely anymore. He’s never cared about who was or wasn’t there, but he cares when it’s Hira. He needs him, specifically, to be by his side. The one that, somehow, for some reason, quenches the loneliness. Where everyone else gives him unfounded, excessive love and praise, it’s not that he cares about, it’s love from Hira he wants. And he wants it less almost, doesn’t want that unfounded devotion, he wants real love, not another fan or blind follower, but a friend, a partner, a lover.

hi! i'm curious - what are your thoughts on some ppl (maybe mostly in the minority?) have made comparisons of the carlos & iris rescue scene in 4x03 being parallel to that of tk/carlos in the iconic Push, and how they've said it kind of undermines the emotional weight in Push?

personally, i'm trying not to put too much weight on it, bc i think it's probably not as deep as they're making it out to be, and it makes logical sense for carlos to tell her to breathe as she was near hyperventilating at the time (if my memory serves me well, i'm not planning to rewatch it so pls do correct me if im wrong) – but the more cynical part of me can see where they're coming from as well (e.g. with the framing), and it's starting to get to me a little

my heart really does hurt for tk in that moment tho :( it certainly didn't help that carlos was being a jerk during that scene - this will def always be a skip for me. there's angst and then there's being a jerk for no reason bc he's what, mad? i can't imagine what/how tk must be feeling at the time

also, idk. there's not much to work with here, a part of me wondered (if it was intentional) if carlos was that spiteful enough to purposely do all of that to get a reaction out of tk (i doubt this. it's fucked up, but it's whatever, he's already walking a tightrope between being petty and also being an a*hole. i honestly wouldn't be surprised if the writers are trying to play this up for dramatic purposes), or if they'd just wanted to be sprinkle in the additional ✨ angst ✨ to get a reaction out of the audience instead, if it was completely unintentional, or it really isn't as deep as that.

This got a bit longer than I intended.

The “Breathe, breathe” scene in Push was a huge moment for them (& us) after their breakup – but I don’t really think the writers intended to have Carlos tell Iris the same thing to cheapen the scene in Push.

I totally get the people who had that gut reaction of “what the fuck, why would they have him say that like that?” and feel like it took away from the Tarlos scene – I do. The first time I watched the ep (I have had it on repeat pretty much anytime I am home alone while I am writing.),

I had a similar thought process – when I watched it again the 2nd time though, it made more sense to me narratively & like you said she was hyperventilating & in a decent amount of distress – telling her to breathe was pretty much the only thing he could say here. Saying something like “calm down” doesn’t always help when you are not in a position to think clearly – simple direction is much easier to follow (I say this as someone who has frequent panic attacks & telling me to calm down is not at all helpful) so, if someone was telling me to breathe – I would be able to follow that direction – telling me to calm down would only make me panic more – because I have to think about HOW to calm down.

I really do think that they are making Carlos’ less than perfect sides more obvious this season, that is why what we saw last year as a little bit of pettiness (3x13) now feels almost cruel at times. I understand why there are fans that just can’t get into this storyline – why they are struggling so much.

I have said since at least last season, the writers did a real disservice to Carlos by making his appear so perfect on the surface for so long. By finding ways to put the blame for any issues between them on TK, or just glossing over his need to keep everything in boxes & his control issues – made it so some fans didn’t need to look deeper at the character – they saw this absolutely gorgeous man, saw the ways he supported TK – thought he was the perfect boyfriend/fiancé, the cop with a good heart.

Now, all of a sudden, they are being confronted with the fact that Carlos has a past, one that some just can’t fathom. They are being forced to acknowledge that Officer Reyes is not perfect and they really don’t know how to handle it.

If we had any in canon hints (other than deleted scenes we won’t ever see) of the actual closeness of Iris & Carlos – some of the people that are struggling with this arc – may have been able to believe that this person was so important to Carlos (NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN TK, BUT STILL IMPORTANT), but – we didn’t. So now, they have to build that now – and Rafa & Lyndsy are doing a fantastic job of showing a real emotional (platonic) relationship.

The writers had to do something that would SHOW us their closeness – not just tell us, like some of the other parts of the storyline – and this was actually (imo) a beautiful way to do it. I don’t really think it was to be petty or dickish to TK, just to show us the emotional connection the characters share. The fact that Rafa & Lyndsy have pretty great chemistry helps this as well.

Carlos was definitely walking the very fine line between petty & dickish, but I think the writers need him to do that for this part – the 3rd act. In a lot of media – the 3rd act is the hard part – either emotionally or mentally – they needed to set up the angst and tension for when Carlos got shoveled to kick off the 4th act.

Would we lose our shit if Carlos went missing while things were perfect for Carlos & TK? absolutely – we love them. BUT – to have it happen when things aren’t as stable, when they are both too much in their feelings/heads to see clearly – that is where the real pay off comes from.

We know that Carlos & TK love each other deeply, we understand why TK went to talk to Iris, we know that it didn’t trigger anything for her. Carlos – doesn’t right now. He is a man that thinks rationally (because he tosses his problems in a box & throws away the key) – but right now rational thought isn’t something he is capable of.

The man had like 15 seconds of not being noticeably stressed the fuck out on screen before that “dream” venue called him – he has been riding on pure emotion and avoidance ever since.

It is easier to lash out (or treat not so great) the people that you KNOW love you. You know that they will be there when you realize what you did/said. We all do it in little ways all the time, (we have a bad day at work, then go home – and every little thing builds up until you blow up – typically not at the people/thing that originally caused your irritation). In this case – I think that Carlos blames himself for all of it – and he can’t shove it in a box – he has to face it, especially in this 4th act.

Carlos KNOWS that TK loves him. But this man is TERRIFIED of his actions hurting Iris, that he seems as though he is ignoring TK, or at least dismissing him. I go back and forth between thinking that Carlos was more defensive to TK in the bunkroom than trying to explain it – but that is an emotional response from me. When I take my emotions out – I can see the way his anxiety is tearing him apart, he is scared to hurting TK, of TK leaving – not because of something TK did – but because Carlos hurt him emotionally. He is scared of jeopardizing Iris’ health and wellbeing.

He also can’t see that these two people, the ones he loves most (in very different ways), are stronger than he can see – especially in this particular situation.

*We have NEVER seen Carlos be the one to fall apart. He is used to being the one putting the pieces back together, for the most part – keeping a clearer head, & connecting the dots. Right now – he isn’t able to do that – but he also won’t let TK or Iris really help him – which leads to the shoveling.

I know that Tim and Ronen keep hyping up Rafa’s acting in 4x04 – but I am also really looking forward to Ronen’s as well. Both of these men have been doing such an amazing job of making us feel all these annoying feelings.

I think another reason people are struggling to see Carlos being more standoffish to TK in 4x03 is that we have watched TK handle this situation so well. Carlos tells him that he has been legally married to someone during their whole relationship, TK listens to him, listens to his reasons on why. We have watched TK handle it with grace – but are now being shown Carlos not doing the same. And it does hurt. It hurts because we know how much they love each other, how much they truly need and want each other. So, to see real friction between them (probably the most we have seen – especially since they broke up off screen) hurts. Going into those scenes knowing that the shoveling was coming hurt more.

The hurt is intentional from the storytelling perspective– but I am hoping & optimistic about a pretty good pay off. I have a feeling that a lot of this elevated pettiness will be gone like the ‘lasting ramifications of hypothermia for TK’ last season, so I am not worried about that continuing either. Once he is rescued, we will get the super tactile, loving, beautiful Tarlos – one that has become stronger through their ordeals – both separate & together.

When in doubt: Just remember Tarlos is endgame & all roads lead to the wedding.
