Honestly I’m kinda worried for Herman’s home life.
The teens haven’t heard any complaints about two parents missing their kid that goes to chaparral during the two months he stayed at hq.
Herman seems way too quick to say that scam and and Jodie are his fathers when he’s theoretically spent all his life with different parents.
plus the fact that he told Jodie that he was fine just staying in hell with him as soon as he met him.
I think Herman might come from absent parents. He knows that his parents don’t care where he is he doesn’t mind following the teens for long periods of times.
It seems like nothing he does gets them to notice him so he just doesn’t care for them anymore. That’s why he was so calm about being burned cause he knows that if he goes back home his parents won’t ask what happened to him.
This is probably me jumping to conclusions but what if he was bulied at chaparral so that’s why he decided to steal teeny. To prove to the school, and maybe his parents that he’s worth something.

Followed for the fic but im staying for the correct dunmeshi takes! That Marcille knows shes cute but doesnt understand why is such a good read!
Im curious what you think of Falin, then? Does Falin think herself attractive? I think shes no longer insecure about her blush, but that is a hint that shes though about her physical appearance.
Aha thank you! For Falin... the funny thing is that the makeup comic confirms that, while she was super self-conscious and insecure, she was ADHDing too hard to actually follow through on any kind of beauty care routine no matter how simple.
I think she falls into an experience I've felt is really common amongst ADHD women (and people functionally regarded as female for most of their lives) is just kind of... accepting it? going with the flow? having a few moments where we'll try for a bit then just forget entirely again?
Falin seems pretty unconcerned with her appearance in the canon, and I feel like that comes from a combination of literally not having much awareness of herself most times and a resignation that she'll never be as pretty as people who can be regular about upkeep.
As for what we see of her post-dragon... her new style of clothing clashes with her old wardrobe in really interesting ways to me. Before, she was wearing mostly very baggy clothing, surprisingly gender-neutral healer type stuff. After, she's wearing tight trousers, bustiers/corsets, and shirts with the sleeves rolled up.
Now, that could just be because she's more active now and climbing and clambering with loose clothing is annoying as hell. But in my experience, aversion to tight clothing is usually caused by a certain discomfort with one's body -- for me, the fact that she actually seems to prefer that kind of clothing afterwards implies that she feels comfortable with herself now.
And I think that's a really lovely subversion of the "came back wrong" trope. Falin came back to life as a half-monster, and feels more at home in her own body than she ever did before.

It's easy enough to reduce Criston Cole's Episode 5 behaviour to being in love with Rhaenyra, but the truth of the matter is that his reaction doesn't revolve around her so much as it revolves around his struggle with honor and purpose.
As he said back in episode 3, Kingsguard is the highest honor that his house has ever had. What he and Rhaenyra initially had was very much reminiscent of the courtly love that was dominant in Arthurian legend, the concept that a knight and lady could have affections for one another while respecting the boundaries of their stations and maintaining a sense of "purity".
It's already been discussed that the episode 4 conflict of to-sleep-with-rhaenyra-or-not-to was not 100% consensual because Criston was in a position of subservience to Rhaenyra and it was very much a "damned if you do, damned if you dont" situation. He risks death either way and ends up breaking his vows to appease her. Of course, it is apparent enough that he harbored feelings for her. But two things can be true at the same time.
We open to episode 5, where Criston proposes that they run away and marry one another, already without his armour and showing his vulnerability to her. When Rhaenyra rejects, he tells her that he broke his vows as Kingsguard and thought that marrying her would relieve him of his guilt. Guilt over what? Breaking his vows, of course. When she suggests that they continue on as lovers while she married Laenor, he reduces it to being her "whore".
In Criston's eyes, the only way he can properly make up for his sin of breaking his Kingsguard vows is by swearing the vows between two people in matrimony, another lifelong commitment. If it was simply about love in his eyes, he might have said "lover/paramour" but he specifically says "whore", someone who trades their body for coin.
Having his proposal be rejected by Rhaenyra was not simply the loss of a romantic future he thought they could have, it was the loss of his chance to redeem himself and regain the honor he lost by sleeping with the woman who gave him his job and whom he was sworn to protect.
It's why he loses all control over himself when Joffrey tries to build a rapport with him and insinuates that they are on the same boat. Criston does not want to be Joffrey's equivalent, a "whore" for their King/Queen to enjoy. To him, there is no honor in that. But the reality of it is staring him so plainly in the face during the feast that he needs to eliminate that reminder by attacking and killing poor Joffrey.
That inability to live with the reality of his situation is further emphasized when he finally tries to kill himself. He's more than a scorned man, he's a man who's lost his purpose and blames himself for it (as seen when he admits to Alicent that he slept with Rhaenyra and accepts the fate of death).
When Alicent stops him from doing the deed, what she is essentially doing is giving him a chance to regain his honour and a new sense of purpose: serving her and her children. It is possible that they will have the courtly love that is more true to Arthurian legend, Criston having such a deep devotion to his Queen and his role as her guard that he pushes the chess pieces to further the Greens' cause. Whether or not there will be a semblance of romance between them in the time jump, there will no doubt be the devotion that renders him one of Alicent's staunchest allies.

OKAY SO - someone mentioned this idea for the Vengeance of Moon Knight, and while it may sound extremely bad—like I’m Mat-patting it up in here while comparing things that may not make sense—it’s Mackay, and he makes me go insane.
The idea was behind what was introduced in Issue 8 of MK 2021 — stories. (If you see this, op, PLEASE dm me or at least message on here so I can add credit <3)
More below! :)
Issue 8 was the first main issue for Hunters Moon. If you don’t remember, MK was facing imprisonment because of what was happening in Devils Reign, and Detective Flint needed help with an investigation surrounding Scarlet Fasinera.
Tumblr media
As the issue goes on, Hunters Moon finds Scarlet, brings her down via Khonshu, and apologizes to Reese.
Tumblr media
Overall, it’s a pretty cut and dry story! However, what really stood out about THIS issue and THIS issue alone is that it talks about how powerful stories are, and it’s never talked about again. Maybe that’s coincidence, but there are major parallels to how Scarlet survived through becoming a story, and what Moon Knight has done.
First: The wall paintings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left is how Scarlet survived through becoming a story. People prayed to her. The second, well, Marc sums it up well in the first issue:
Tumblr media
DO YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN?? Not to say that Moon Knight can PROBABLY come back as a story, but I’m saying that. He’s already set up to be with the paintings on the walls AND his death.
We do not see this EVER again in the run, so that’s why it’s very suspicious to me… I know Mackay loves stories that constantly have action, but as we've seen for the entire run, everything has a meaning and a place in the story. It'd be odd if this was just thrown to the wolves with no further exposition.
Second: her talk about stories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
IF Moon Knight comes back through those symbols, the story is crafted by those beliefs and prayers (AND it's not just Mackay's Moon Knight run we see this motif- even in the current Avengers run, also written by him, we hear that when Thor fights the horrifying biblically accurate angel).
However, what strikes out to me is the "A story changes in the telling, Hunters Moon, but never learns."
Do you know how we see this new Moon Knight portrayed? That's right. Bloody and ruthless are a few words I can name off the top of my head. We have not seen a cover yet, except for issue one and the variants, that is them not fighting someone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you know how Moon Knight is seen in a lot of peoples eyes? Bloody and ruthless. Do you know how stories are made? Through beliefs of other people. We even see this in issue #25!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's easier to be someone who everyone else knows. Not yourself. If no one knows who you are, truly, than your story—your new life—is not going to be yourself. Who you actually were, but it is you. To other people, you are the same.
Now, to end this all off... An excerpt from Badr:
Tumblr media
While one person believes in Moon Knight, his story will continue. Do you see what I mean?

Alright I'm gonna take another swing at the hornet's nest today because fuck it
I'm also going to be slightly amending a belief I've held staunchly since the show freaking aired
I don't think Arthur is 20 in season one.
Think about it. The Great Purge began with Ygraine's death. If we are to believe that Arthur is exactly 20 years old in season one, we must also believe that the entire Purge - from conception to execution to capturing Kilgharrah and all the horrors in between - happens in less than a year.
In 1x01, Uther does not say "It has been 20 years since the Purge began" he says "twenty years since the Great Dragon was captured" meaning that there is an indeterminate amount of time between the start of the Purge (Ygraine's death/Arthur's birth) and Kilgharrah's capture.
So, my new estimate for Arthur's age in season one is twenty-four, prior to the Black Knight episode that names him as "coming of age" and making him Crown Prince, which puts him at 25.
Does that align with the medieval concept of "age of majority"? Probably not, but neither does the costuming, accents, language, or setting of the show, so if they're taking liberties with everything else, we can assume they took liberties here too.
Now, we can adjust what we know of the other main characters going off what we know about the Purge, and Arthur's probable age.
Merlin is likely 19-20 when he comes to Camelot. Reason being that Balinor was hunted after the Purge - after Kilgharrah was captured and Balinor escaped Camelot with Gaius's aid. If we assume the Purge lasted 4 years, which is the most likely - and shortest - amount of time for such a widescale and massive genocide to happen, then we can assume that Balinor fled to Ealdor at Gaius's urging, stayed for a few months at the most, before Uther's men caught wind of him and hunted him down again. This would put Merlin's birth shortly after Arthur's fifth birthday, as Balinor didn't even know that Hunith was pregnant by the time he left Ealdor.
Morgana's age is a little tougher to estimate, because while we know the circumstances of her birth, we don't have canon confirmation of the timing. But what we do have, however, is cast confirmation that Morgana is older than Arthur. Now, if we go with my personal favourite theory, which is that Uther grew tired/annoyed with Ygraine's inability to conceive, and went on to have an affair with Vivienne first, that would put Morgana at a minimum two years older than Arthur. My theory on this matter is also that if Vivienne had birthed a son, Uther would have abandoned Ygraine for her, and raised that son as his own, leaving Ygraine penniless but at least alive. I believe though that since Vivienne had a daughter, that Uther gave up hope there, and likely distanced himself from Vivienne and Gorlois from that point on (which we can also then attribute Gorlois's death to, since we're told that Gorlois died when Uther refused to send reinforcements to him). So, to sum up, we can assume Morgana is roughly 26-27 in season one.
Gwen, we have absolutely no point of reference for, unfortunately. We don't know when she was born, we have no significant events in the timeline that we can pinpoint for her birth, so her age is the most questionable. I've seen estimates that Gwen is 18 in season one, I've also seen younger estimates. Personally, I like to think that she's at least a couple years older than Merlin, but still younger than Arthur, so let's say about 22-ish. (I don't have an estimate for Elyan because I still cannot decide whether he is the older or younger sibling, so let's discuss that too.)
The knights range in age in my head between early 20's (Lancelot and Elyan) to early 30's (Leon and Gwaine) at the time of introduction. The exception being Mordred, who I assume to be somewhere between 18-20 in season five, since we don't actually know how old he is in season one, though he looks to be under the age of ten.
And all of this, of course, is running on the assumption that the entire show takes place over the course of ten years. I saw someone say recently that "well we never see winter or fall so REALLY the first two seasons are one year, then 3-4 is one year, then a three year break, then like. 6 months for season 5, so its only really been like five years!" Like.... okay, firstly, lets take a moment, alright, we know that there are time skips happening in canon, the events are not linear, though they are chronological, these episodes are not really happening back to back, if that was the case, everyone would be dead on their feet exhausted by like 1x10. The only real back-to-back episodes are the two-parters, and Kilgharrah's release, and even with Kilgharrah's release, there was still three days in between those episodes that we didn't see.
So what do we know?
Well, we know for certain that there is one year in between seasons 2 and 3 where Morgana went "missing" with Morgause. We know for certain there's another rough year between seasons 3 and 4. There are three years in between season 4 and 5. That's five years already of time we do not see. Now if we allow a year each per season as well, and just accept that things Didn't Happen during winter or fall, that rounds us up to a nice even ten years.
So, in the end that gives us the following in season 5:
Arthur - roughly 35 by the time he dies
Merlin - just on/under 30
Morgana - 36/37-ish
Mordred - 18-20
Gwen - roughly 32
And all of this is dependent entirely on how long the purge lasted. Because it's just unfeasible to believe it all happened in less than a year. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. Camelot is a well-supplied and well-defended kingdom (mostly) but they don't have the resources to create, begin and end a massive genocide at the level it committed, in less than one year.
And that was far more math than I expected to do before midday on a Wednesday but here we are I guess. If you've read this far, let me know what you think. I want to talk about this, and I am so tired of the "Arthur's 16 in season one" rhetoric, so let's talk about it please.
ETA: a very quick google search shows that the common age of majority in medieval England was 21 for men, and as low as fourteen for married girls, so yeah, we are Taking Liberties here. many liberties. all the liberties.

OK, so, my poll on POV preference will run for a week, but since it’s already got a bunch of responses, there’s a clear trend, and I have Thoughts.
- The majority preference is third person, especially third person/past tense.
- First person preference is nearly nonexistent. A couple of folks expressed strong dislike of first person.
- At least one person commented that they’ll read first person POV books, but not fanfic. Interesting!
- I’ve written a lot in first person, but only for one specific OC. If I was writing fanfic, I’d most likely use third person. Is there something about fanfic that makes first person harder to pull off?
- First person POV is super-intimate. It asks the reader to basically inhabit the character’s mind.
- Third person, on the other hand, puts some distance between the reader and the characters.
- For most media, we’re consuming it in either literal third person (written POV) or virtual third person (as an audience member watching a movie or show). For readers who are used to that distance, suddenly being in the character’s head could feel weird.
- That might be especially true for whumpfics, which can be unpleasant and/or overwhelming. It really depends on the story.
And of course none of this implies judgement! When we’re talking about intimacy, whether in RL or fiction, I think each person has their own point where things become Too Much, and that’s valid.

one thing I’ve always noticed but I used to brush it off is that it’s always Jon compromising and sacrificing for Ronan and he was kinda expected to do that when he wasn’t getting the same thing in return and he tolerated for so long then reach his last straw
with the new house I fully believed that they’re settling down in the same city and getting married (which is why the breakup shocked me so much), anyway I don’t think Jon was against the marriage and kids but he was against getting married while Ronan still wanted to have the same lifestyle, I guess Jon wanted that stability guaranteed because what’s the point of marriage and having kids if you’re still gonna live in NY and come in the weekends ?!
I'd also dump my partner of 10 years if this is the life they were offering. That sounds unbelievably cruel. He may not have intended it, but that is so cruel.

Though their initial mutations were the result of long term nuclear war, it's actually an intense culture of propaganda and strictly enforced conformity policies that have kept the Daleks in their current state. Every Dalek undergoes surgery just after birth; not to mitigate the effects of irradiation, but to rid them of whatever is legally considered "imperfections to the Dalek form" (usually throwbacks to a humanoid body plan, such as teeth and hands) and physically ready them for their casing. Additional surgeries must occur throughout a Dalek's life to prevent them from becoming "rooted" - a painful, often fatal scenario in which the Dalek overgrows their own shell and cannot be safely removed. Not only does their homogeneity serve to reinforce their fervent belief in genetic superiority, but the resulting chronic health issues prevent insurrection; a Dalek's fear of losing access to regular healthcare colors much of their judgement, and most attempts at dissent end as soon as their painkillers run dry.

OHHH, I just thought of something.
It's been bugging me that Norris, Chester, and Augustus started speaking around a year ago, and I've been wondering about the significance of that timing. At first I thought maybe it was some consequence of whatever RedCanary stumbled into at the Magnus Institute, because that was a bit over a year and a half ago--we know from the case numbering system that the episodes are taking place in the present day (episode 2 was taking place on Jan 18 2024; note for my fellow US folks that the dates are the UK standard with day first, not month). And from the dates on the forum posts, RedCanary's series of unfortunate events was in April 2022.
BUT based on their case numbers, which give the date the case's events happened even if that's not said in the episode, all the incidents Sam has looked at so far were from mid 2022. They're not perfectly grouped together; the dolls and Arthur and RedCanary were all April through May 2022, while Daria's therapy appointment was September--that last one's a bit of a jump, but it could have happened depending on how cases are being allotted among the various workers. But they're all close enough that it's a plausible assumption, I think, that FR3-D1 is generally finding these things roughly as they're posted and then adding them into people's queues for review. This would mean they're at a current backlog of around a year and a half. (Looking at you, Gwen...)
If that's the case, and if the OIAR's workers have been maintaining a roughly constant rate, then around a year ago they would probably have been reviewing a lot of cases that FR3-D1 found in early to mid-2021. Which means they'd have been opening files that have been sitting in their database untouched since that time.
MAG200 aired on March 25, 2021.
Whether Chester and Norris are a Ushanka'd JMart, or something resulting purely from Annabelle Caine's manipulation of their voices, or something else entirely... l don't know. But I am betting that they didn't start as part of the system, like Colin thinks they did. I think there was some direct consequence of MAG200's events which led to them being embedded in a post that FR3-D1 scraped up, and that they simply weren't activated and "let loose" until some unknowing office worker clicked on their file.

Ok ok ok.
Finished Cult of the Lamb (right in time for the next update)
And now I got all these thoughts.
Like the bishops?
People are already doing so much interesting stuff with Narinder, so I got nothing new there. But the others?
Leshy is interestingly enough the most elaborate and thoughtful of them, the snippet about his crown was almost poetic.
Kallarmar however, he really surprised me. Based on his previous behavior, and what the others said (including ???) I had expected a frightened sniveling crybaby, not this calm sassy thing. Not only does he seems to be the most accepting of their new life, he is super calm and friendly with the lamb.
Then I realized.... Oh. Kallarmar has already gone through his worst nightmare. He has already died, multiple times. And since the lamb has done no new harm to him, he has no real reason to fear as long as he is a good little follower. (helps that he got the absolute cutest voice) Oh yeah, and the fact that not only does he claim he was pressured into helping with binding Narinder, but also that his relic summons a skeleton - one that seems very clearly to be based on Narinder?? I have thoughts.
And Heket? Heket seems angry, but reluctingly accepting of her new life. And I realized, after what happened with Shamura, Heket was the one keeping the bishops together. For a thousand years, she was the only real thing holding up the old faith. Shamura too wounded to handle it. Leshy too young and well, chaotic. Kallarmar just wanting to hide away in his temple. She must have been under so much pressure. And she is the next youngest in the group!
Shamura is just such a tragic character. I had expected them to be more damaged without their crown, but seeing how disoriented and stuck in memories and half addled thought they are? Damn.
When I gave them the spider silk their reaction was a gut punch. I had this clear mental image of them running the silk though their fingers, mumbling to themselves, barely aware of the lamb.
Ugh, I really hope Sins of the flesh gives more lore. I got all these feels.

why hbomb94 should be the next new hermit: no listen this isn't just me being ridiculous listen listen--
okay but like. after today i am ON THIS TRAIN. i am FULLY CONVINCED that hbomb94 would be one of the BEST POSSIBLE CANDIDATES for "new hermit for hermitcraft". and please, just listen to my case for this:
so, after today, i'm fully convinced hbomb is a perfect vibes match for many hermits. he gets along well! he's actually pretty good at staying at hermitcraft levels of pg in videos (like, not swearing--he makes like, the catmaid jokes, but that's nothing worse than whatever ren gets up to on a given day). he's also relatively chill, already friends with a lot of the hermits, and connects well with them on a content creation level. like, he's excited for them, he slots into the bits well, the bits he brings to the table are picked up easily by the other hermits.
and the thing is... okay i KNOW hbomb isn't a huge base builder. i watched vault hunters smp too. but the thing is... he doesn't have to be! you see, there's a certain hermit niche they haven't invited a new hermit into in a while, and that's the niche that someone like joe hills or zedaph (or i'd argue etho or cubfan) occupies. it's the 'weird' niche. i don't think hbomb would be a builder hermit. i don't think he'd be a redstoner either. what he'd be good at is things like... hermits helping hermits! building minigames! have you seen hbomb actually, half of what he did on dsmp or on his main youtube is building minigames and escape rooms. he'd have good vibes! he'd show up to all the events! he'd probably RUN some events!
what he'd be is a new chill, friendly niche hermit, and i think we need more of those? more of the hermits who WON'T be building megabases, but WILL be building games, helping collect resources, and inventing new strange things to do. yes, sure, once again: i know hbomb isn't a builder, and next to someone like joel, that probably puts him out of contention, but... the last two hermits they invited were builders. they need a hype guy. an event guy. another team player. the escape rooms would be ENRICHMENT. it would be wonderful.
plus, i don't think he'd ever stop being a delightful audience insert about the other hermit projects. plus plus, i think he and scar and cub would definitely do a catmaid bit we'd all regret. plus plus plus i think he could do his rant about how weird beetroot is and the hermits would appreciate him for it.
as such i actually think hbomb slots in BEST of the visitors from today as a new hermit. (this is also in part because the empires crew tends to prefer much shorter seasons on their servers than hermitcraft has if they don't want to get bored and the hermits have pretty definitively decided they don't like short seasons. it's also a vibe check. skizz for hermitcraft fans, i am shaking your hand and saluting you, my guy who can't build and your guy who can't build should be hermits who join for similar reasons, we are friends.)
anyway will this actually happen? probably not. but like. listen. for the first time since hbomb hermit adoption arc started this feels VIABLE and i feel the need to make my case for why i want him on because the moment the season rolls over and we start speculating about new hermits this is the guy who has my vote please do you understand now please he'd be so fun--
