hello hi!!! grfhvhghr i am in love with your artwork so much you cant believe-- i wanna ask if you have any tips on how you lineart and colourpick?? no pressure to answer tho, have a great day/night!! again, love your art <33
hi!! thank you for your kind words!! since i got asked about these a lot, im answering this for all the other ask asking about lineart and colour tips too! You can see some previous post here.
also i could only give out tips that work for my drawing style - which is heavy lineart / colours pop up the line (believe it or not it's American comic book style. ppl cant understand why my art doesnt really look like usual anime/ Asian webtoon style, even though it is still clearly anime / Asian webtoon style, but when i told them it's because im drawing these by studying American comics, no one believes it either lmao.
i do study but i do my own things too, so most of my art inspo is really unexpected to ppl, but they r really where i learn things from, cuz i dont even go to art school TT_TT).
Tumblr media
Changing the brush size will help you achieve thick/thin lines better without having to put pressure on your wrists. Keep your hold relaxed and let bigger brush size give you the thick strokes.
I like messy sketch, to me the sketch is just an outline shape to fill details in when i do the line, it also gives more freedom to wriggle as i draw! cuz i dont really plan out everything from the start, just wing it as i go, so a lot of my work is actually very spontaneous.
that leads to this point: when you do the lineart you should start deciding which colour style you want from it to adjust the details amount. the ink shadow blocks in my art aren't there randomly, i adjust them to best complement the shape language and colours.
for piece where i want the line/shadow to...idk hit (?), the colours are almost flat with textured brush adding depth to them, so the inking is the shading, thus there are more details in the lineart / ink blocks.
Tumblr media
for the video above and piece like this where i want the colours to be clear and pop out, the use of ink blocks are minimized and i do the shading during colouring process. but! the ink blocks can still make some places pop very nicely! just use in moderation!
Tumblr media
when doing the base it's good to keep the colour on the left side of the colour wheel (low saturation), but as you do shading and lighting, try to spread out evenly so it won't look washed out.
toggle around with hue and saturation slider as you go! the key is always adjusting! you're making hundreds of decisions at once, being conscious of your choice in why a line or a colour should be in a certain way will help improve your process a lot! (i think you can tell which art i turned off my brain and just draw for stress relief ........ which is also a valid way to draw and sometimes the result might surprise you! but for more serious stuffs i try to be aware of most of the move i make. it's problem solving, yeah?)
i find that one way to keep your art from appearing too...yellow in the end (which is sth that haunted my ass for a long while) is always aim for cold tone, so if you accidentally make it warm either way in the end it won't be too warm (and yellow :cry:)
well that's all the stuffs i can think on top of my head. sorry i can't give more advice on colour picking cuz it's sth i don't really know how to give advice on???? i think my colours now are still pretty lame haha........ if there are still any questions i'd gladly answer within my ability, though im very slow to answer ask ( i do read and be happy at all of them tho!)

i know new york being the ancestral homeland of jews is a joke but as a jew from europe it literally feels that way. like i cannot imagine like a whole street written in hebrew. like i want to go there just to see that. i dont think jews inthe united states are aware of how good they have it
i do want to note that america is also a settler colonial state and its only because of specific american aims of the settler project and material realities of the economy and the physical land they were trying to settler that theyve had this “melting pot” ideology where jews were incorporated similarly to italian and irish immigrants, instead of continuing to have deeply ingrained religious and cultural antisemitism like europe. there were in some periods of us history more restrictions on jewish immigration and some institutional barriers for jews, especially before and during ww2, but never to the same degree as europe. although american jews were rarely (if ever, i dont know any examples but there could be some) violent genocidal settlers like the anglos and generally migrated later, we were still settlers searching for economic interests provided by american expansion on native land. that being said were here now and have the status of any other american settler (meaning people who arent indigenous or descended from enslaved people brought here against their will) most indigenous theorists and activists maintain that they want sovereignty, reparations, companies to stop destroying native land, etc, not every american settler to leave. i really believe that the united states also must fall, but i dont think this makes us like not belonging, at least any more than the other settlers.
i just want to say this to explain that my love for new york and the east coast us is complex. objectively the multicultural and cosmopolitan aspects of nyc that make it unique are products of american imperialism– for example nyc is the most linguistically diverse city in the world! over 600 languages are spoken here, including languages that arent spoken anywhere else anymore, but think about why that is. and the flourishing of jewish communities and culture in parts of the us was a product of specific historic processes and policies, and we like any other descendants of settler-immigrants have to grapple with that. i think its possible to oppose and fight against american imperialism and settler colonialism and still deeply appreciate the contradictory aspects of culture in america. (which lbr all the dynamic and interesting and worth preserving things about american culture were not created by anglos, but by outsiders and oppressed people) anyways this is all just to say im really not coming at it from a nationalist perspective but a diaspora perspective but yeah, new york is such a jewish city its genuinely incredible. this is why i especially despise tri state area zionists... youre ignoring that you live in the greatest place in the world for jews. literally the most jewish city in the world. like theres a moving company called schleppers here, yiddish words are part of everyones dialect, you can get the best jewish food everywhere from delis that are like 100 years old, we literally have a truck called the mitzvah tank that chabad drives around and asks people on the street if theyre jewish. the only romaniote synagogue in the western hemisphere is here and they have a greek jewish festival every year (which unfortunately is always covered in israeli flags -_-) the whole foods by one of my work sites had a sign up for yom kippur catering because the neighborhood is so jewish.
jewish culture and history and jews in general are just part of the fabric of life in new york. also whatever street youre talking about was probably written in yiddish since thats what most of the hassidic jews speak here! nyc has the largest concentration of yiddish speakers, which isnt surprising, and its the 8th most spoken language in nyc. theres also a big and still growing bukharian community here too. if you ever can, i really recommend visiting new york. theres so much jewish culture and history here. a lot of american jews live much more isolated, so i cant speak for them, but for many parts of the north east i feel that were lucky. antisemitism exists here but idk ive grown up in pretty jewish areas and never really experienced it. europe sounds legitimately shitty. also... fun fact, netanyahu went to high school in the suburbs outside of philly

School fights. Typical American high school movie type of shit, but today just had to be one of those days where it happened. You were walking to the front gate of the school when a crowd started to form and a series of ‘oohs’ and cheers were heard. It wouldn’t have interested you if you hadn’t caught your boyfriends name in that crowd. You run over and push through the people and see your boyfriend fighting your friend. You and some other person pull them away from each other, both of them beat up, well the other person a bit more. You pull Tyler by the arm and you hear curses aimed at you and Tyler; “Pussy!” “Booo!” You ignore them and hold Tylers hand, rubbing soothing circles on the back of it. You walk in silence, only Tylers huffing and heavy breathing being heard. He was looking anywhere but you, too angry to even speak.
You unlock your house and drag him to the bathroom upstairs. You sit him down on the edge of the bath tub and you crouch and open the cabinet, taking out the first aid kit. You glance over at him, his leg bouncing like it was running on electricity. “So, are you going to tell me what happened?” You ask softly as you start your clean the blood from his nose and lip, making him hiss in pain. He stays silent for a while as if he was thinking or trying to find the right words to explain the situation.
You wait patiently for him to sort it out in his head and play with his hair while sitting in his lap, softly kissing the spots that were bruised. He pulls you closer and hugs you, his face buried in your chest, mumbling swears and incoherent sentences. You rub his back and hum, knowing that mostly calms him down. He looks up at you, his gaze softening. “You ready to tell me what happened baby?” He nods and you smile, kissing his forehead. He looks away and speaks in a hushed tone; “They were.. spreading shitty things about you, so I defended you.” He says and frowns, looking guilty. “But they fucking deserved it fucking hijo de puta—” You kiss his lips to stop his rambling and his shoulders relax, kissing you back. You smile into the kiss as his hands wander down to your waist, squeezing it gently. You pull away, putting your forehead against his; “Ty, I’m glad you protected me but you don’t need to beat people up for it.” He huffs, quickly snapping back; “But—” You place your finger on his soft lips, shushing him; “No buts, you shouldn’t fight people, I don’t like seeing you hurt.” He cups your cheek and smirks up at you.
“I’d kill for you princesa.” He looks at you lovingly and pulls you into another passionate kiss.

You and the group were aware of Bens “anger issues” ever since the day you saw Logan getting bullies by Barron. You were well aware of how things like bullying triggered him so you tried to keep him away from things like that along with Aiden, who was always there to calm him down. Today Aiden wasn’t there, leaving you to deal with an angry Ben. Not that you minded but you never really calmed him down. You pull him away quickly from the fight, making him thrash around and he hits you right in the nose. You hiss in pain but drag him to the schools ‘abandoned’ bathroom. You take out some bandages and tampons, wrapping his bleeding knuckles with the bandages and clean off the blood from his lip with the tampon. He huffs, breathing heavily and his legs tremble. You finish cleaning him and gently pull him into a hug, playing with his hair. He breathes in your scent and seemingly relaxes wrapping his arms around your stomach, pulling you into his lap.
You sat there for a bit, humming the tune of his favorite song and pull away, kissing his cheek, forehead and finally his soft lips. You intended it to be a quick peck on the lips but he pulled you right back, kissing you with a bit more force. You pull away for breath and he hides his face in the crook of your neck. The bells rings but you guys stay seated on the floor of the bathroom. “Can you tell me what happened my love?” You say softly and kiss his cheek. He carefully take put his phone his head still rested against your chest, typing something on his phone.He hands you the phone after he finishes and you read it, making sure to not leave out even a single detail. “Your new friend the one you met in your volleyball class, she was saying some mean shit about you and I just snapped.”
You nod and lift his head up to look at you; “I’m really glad you stood up for me but you know you shouldn’t beat people up. I know it’s harder for you and I promise to help you through it okay?” You say with a smile and kiss his nose. You rub his back soothingly and he just fiddles with his fingers, obviously nervous. You grab his hands and kiss his knuckles, making him smile and you notice just the slightest hint of blush on his cheeks. You guys talk for the rest of the class you skipped in the bathroom and after the last bell rang you went home. You board the bus and sit down next to him and let him sleep for the rest of the bus ride. You both shared headphones and listened to your shared playlist that slowly lulled you to sleep.

A yandere Gyro and Johnny pairing fighting off a yandere Diego and Hotpants or maybe Valentine?
IM SORRY I TOOK SO LONG I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH THIS.
' = thoughts
" = speech
-----------------------------------------------
As Y/n walks in a old 1800's western styled town she questioned her life and why she's still a big jojo fan.
Y/n plops down on the sandy ground and sighs.
" I'm tired of having to walk a mile, Im just gonna rest for a little while"
1 minute
2 minutes
3 minutes
" NOTHINGS HAPPENING IM SO BOR- is that a tumble weed!"
Y/n runs up to the mini sized tumble weed and grins.
" I've always wanted to throw a tumble weed at someone!"
Y/n grabs the tumble weed and puts it in her bag that she conveniently has on her.
' Welp, I guess it's time to walk until something interesting happens.... again'
Y/n gets up and pats off sand off her sweat pants.
' I wish I had my phone and some headphones'
" Darling? Is that you?"
' Oh shit it's the zesty ball cowboy, don't look behind you y/n, don't look-'
" Ummm no this is Tyrone" Y/n says in the deepest voice she can muster.
A different voice cuts in
" Y/n get on one of our horses now"
' That's definitely Johnny I can recognize that painfully blunt voice from anywhere'
" M-kay'"
I turn around and walk torwards them.
"Which horse should I get on?"
" Mine!" Gyro says.
" Wait what? She always goes on your horse Gyro it's my turn now"
' You know what since Johnny has a big ass- uhhhh i mean nice personality I'll ride with him'
" I'll ride with you this time Johnny" Y/n says as she smiles
" WHAT!?" Gyro exclaims doing his cursed shocked face.
I walk to Johnny's horse and after two embarrassing tries I get on behind him.
I wrap my arms around Johnny just incase the horse hates me.
" Where are we even going?" Y/n asks
" Were going to continue the race"
" Wait- how far are you into the race!?-"
" Johnny and Gyro, I haven't seen you in a long time" Valentine says as he comes out a carriage 5 feet away from us.
' How did none of us hear that loud ass carriage' Y/n thinks
" Johnny, Gyro, I think we should leave he's way too American-"
Tusk Act 4 and Ball Breaker come out of there Users backs.
" Hiya" Y/n says as she waves to the cute stands.
They excitedly wave back
' Wahhh~ so cute!'
Funny slowly stride's torwards us
" Hand Y/n over please, if you do that I will spare you and you make have a chance of winning the race"
" I would appreciate if I had say in this please!" Y/n says as she deadpans.
" No! We're not handing her over to you, you bastard!" Johnny Yells
" Fine, be that way then" Funny replies as D4C comes out
" You know, I could just runaway and leave Valentine to chase me, Then you guys can finish the race without me nagging you"
" NO!" Gyro, Johnny both yell
" Fine then, I was just trying to help" Y/n says as she rolls her eyes
' No matter what Y/n I'll always be with you, even if I have to kill a few bastards to keep me with you" Johnny thinks as he Glares at Valentine
Johnny puts hand into a hand gun position and aims it at Valentine.
' I'll Die before I'll let anyone take you away from me, Y/n' Gyro thinks
Gyro takes out his steel ball and focuses on trying to find the golden ratio on Valentine.
" Don't worry I got this guys!"
Y/n opens her bag and takes the tumble weed out.
' A tumble weed......?' Johnny and Gyro both think.
Y/n throws the tumble weed at Funny. It lands directly on his and hits his eyes.
" Augh!-"
" GO BEFORE HE OPENS HIS EYES"
Johnny and Gyro quickly make there horses get away from Funny Valentine.
" HAHHA THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET FREAKY WITH LITTLE GIRLS LOSER"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IM SORRY THIS WAS JUST SO RANDOM-
I hoped you guys liked this love ya'll!
DELICATE
summary: after an ongoing online scandal, you come out with a new album. during an interview, you talk about your inspo :)
warnings: this fic is an excuse to write this fic again that i made for joe since i wrote it months ago and for evan instead with reputation since i think its one of the best albums ever made! link to actual genius article for everyone :)
GENUIS!
“Three years after the release of their 2014 album, and following several public spats with celebrities, Y/N Y/L/N aims to clear their name and inaccurate public image on Reputation. At a fan event that took place in June 2018, Y/L/N described the record as a story of “finding love throughout all the noise,” referring to how the album transitions from discussing her persona to falling in love with American actor Evan Peters.”
*VIDEO STARTS*
“Is this thing on?” you looked at the camera crew and laughed as they held up a thumbs up. “Hi! Im Y/N Y/L/N, I’m here with Genius and I’m here to talk about my new album, reputation.” you smiled at the camera. Evan, sitting alongside the crew, read out the cards they had handed him. “So, how many tracks are on the album?” he asked. “Well, theres fifteen tracks” “Can you list them out for us?” he smiled warmly.
“The album starts off with Ready For It, End Game featuring Ed Sheeran and Future, I Did Something Bad, Don’t Blame Me, Delicate, Look What You Made Me Do, So It Goes, Gorgeous, King Of My Heart, Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Dress, This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, Call It What You Want, and the album ends with New Years Day.” Evan softly smiled, reading off the next card. “Is there anything you can tell us about each track?”
You laughed softly, “So, Ready for it is pretty much just diving into what the rest of the albums gonna be like, referencing past songs, kinda lightly digging into the whole situations thats been happening for a while.” you quickly moved onto the next track.
“End Game is just about my reputation and how this effected my outside relationships. I did something bad is pretty much about the same thing, but its a more direct approach.” You took a glance over at Evan, a small smile painted across his face as you carefully explained each track.
"Delicate is about my current relationship, as is Don't Blame Me, I'd definitely say it's one of my more vulnerable tracks." You smiled at Evan, who was already smiling as you started explaining. "My reputation wasn't the best when we first met, which obviously lead to me questioning a lot of it at the start. I didn't think someone could love me in the way he does after everything was going down, it felt like the whole internet was against me but he loved me for who I am and not who I was painted out to be."
As you finished going through each track Evan's smile only grew wider. "What's your favourite track off the album?" You clapped excitedly before speaking. "That's a really hard one but right now I'd have to say either New Year's Day or Dress, both songs are special in terms of relationships." "Do you have a favorite lyric from them?"
You nodded, "For Dress I'd have to say the bridge-" You watched as Evan looked down and smiled before looking back up at you. "Because it really touches on another vulnerable thought I had for a long time. He saw the best in me in my worst time. And for New Years Day probably the bridge as-well for the same reason.
Evan carried on the interview, you wandered questions about the album before closing off. "Well, I'm Y/N Y/L/N and this was my genius interview! Make sure to listen to Reputation on all platforms." You waved at the camera with a small smile on your face before they cut.
You stood up from your chair as the crew around you started speaking. You walked over to Evan who had put the cards down and opened his arms for you to walk into. You wrapped your arms around him as he gently kissed your forehead. "So I'm your muse hmm?" You let out a laugh and nodded before gently kissing him letting out a soft 'mmhm' You looked at him before slightly tearing up. "Thank you for loving me" He smiled softly before tightening his grip on your waist, "I'll love you for the rest of my life."
A/N: hi friends! I decided to finish this because after hearing delicate live and seeing this in my drafts I needed to finish this so badly.. live laugh love taylor swift!
Ah yes, an 🦅🇺🇸🦅American 🦅🦅🇺🇸person who saw 2 TikToks and read one (1) article tells me, an actual Israeli to get educated,,,
About my country,,,
Do you really think you have a proper grasp about one of the most complicated geopolitical conflicts, just cuz you read something online???
Are you really arguing with me about my reality, saying Im brainwashed when I tell you you’re wrong???
Get over yourself , read anything other than Hamas’ propaganda and touch some grass.
Also, stop telling me there’s no proof when Hamas literally live streamed their massacre…
But Hamas are innocent and brave freedom fighters 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Nope. They’re literally ***a globally recognised terror organisation**** - kinda weird to support them …
You’re telling me that Hamas are innocent fighters fighters while People I know are dead.
“Prove it. You’re making things up. “
Nope. That’s what Hamas is doing! Here are a few sources:
*official statements & video evidence released by the Israeli government.
*the IDF’s spokesperson & official video evidence
* “survived to tell”- A civilian campaign on social medias, where survivors of the October 7th massacre tell their story.
*coroner reports and examinations.
*****
Since the first hours of the October 7th attack , survivors and victims called the news stations and posted pictures and videos. Some were later interviewed by the news…
*police and EMT body cams.
*footage released / streamed by Hamas themselves.
*Research done by western media news outlets.
But you would rather believe Hamas ? Mmkay.
If you haven’t spoken up about any other crisis the Palestinians people have faced- You don’t care about the Palestinians, you care about sounding woke& harassing Jews and Israelis.
Where were you when more than 4000 Palestinians refugees were murdered camp by Syria?
When Lebanon banned Palestinians from certain jobs& owning land?
When Hamas prevented medical aid and stole gas from UNRWA?
When over 800 misfired rockets aimed at Israel, ended up falling within Gaza?
They literally store ammunitions and shoot rockets from schools , mosques and youth centres.
When approximately 850,000 Palestinians were displaced due to the Syrian civil war?
When Jordan & Egypt refuse to accept Palestinian refugees? Btw, Egypt has its own blockade as well…
But I support human rights🥹🥺 only the Palestinians are suffering , the Israelis deserve this
*israeli Women were raped as an act of war& terrorism - and suddenly every single women’s rights is silent.
* saying civilians deserve this since they are Israeli ,is a messed up logic and a sense of reality.
*look around- how how much anti- Semitic posts and slurs do you see? Are the protests you go to peaceful?
An elderly man was literally killed in one of those protests. But it’s fine since he’s Jewish & supports Israel… 🤦‍♀️
**********
I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point. There’s video evidence for everything I wrote here, stop believing Hamas’ lies.
russian "lgbt propaganda" laws get more and more insane. at this point it's either get the fuck outta here or kys
"any depictions of non-traditional relationships that paint them in a positive light and/or talk about their superiority over traditional relationships" you know what would save the image of a "traditional" marriage? if you didn't allow men to beat their spouses into submission while only paying a small fine for it. that would work i think. also they group queer people with fucking p*dos but that's something they've been doing for ages.
"anything that promotes the distorted view of non-traditional relationships being equal to traditional relationships."
"anything that is aimed to create a positive image of undergoing sex change procedures." as in, saying that medical transition can save lives is propaganda, apparently. i wonder if it's going to affect the doctors working with trans people, and how much time do i have before they take away the possibility of transitioning altogether.
what the actual fuck. im not even gonna talk about the language here.
fun history bits btw. the law itself started with "protecting kids" in 2013 (sounds familiar to my american audience?) and used to only affect mentions of lgbtq+ in spaces accessible to minors. but since 2022 it's officially just a nation-wide ban because, shockingly, queer people didn't disappear, so that means "the evil gays" are brainwashing adults too
my heart goes out to my american audience as well, i keep an eye out for what's happening. fight this shit if you can, because this is what it leads to, this is what they ultimately want. i swear the shit they're doing to you rn looks like they're taking it straight outta russian rulebook.
sorry for the rant, but i guess you can see that i'm not taking the news very well. and i'm still a little bit afraid of using my platform to talk about serious topics in fear of being an inconvenience to my audience. but at the same time i kind of really want to vent sometimes. i'll try to keep it as a relatively rare occurence tho.
Saw your tags about having to change your name to a usamerican one and i wanted to share something about where im from (non usamerican) when working for usamericans but not in the way you'd expect!!
Basically during my time in a call center for usa customers, a lot of my coworkers (and myself included) adopted "american" names like paul, mary, john etc (fun fact: mine was charlie lmaoo for being gender neutral) when talking on the phone to protect ourselves from incoming racism from usamerican customers because they'd not only seethe at ✨ethnic✨ names the moment we'd introduce ourselves to them on the phone, they'd also unfortunately take us less seriously for having non usamerican accents as well or even for going "sorry, can you repeat that?" because their own accents make it hard for us ESLs or sometimes their mics simply sucked yknow but apparently we're the problem for not being from there right :/ I even have an anecdote of a customer telling me that the technician i had to dispatch to fix her printer (like seriously why was she so fussy about who gets to touch a printer ffs) couldnt be mixed/foreign (i cant remember the word she used, it was derogatory slang that pretty much means what i described and she thought it was a funny word to say) and maam excuse me the agent youre saying this to is a **foreigner** without a single drop of usamerican blood AND who's literal continents away from the usa so yeah it was. Weird as hell
There's no takeaway here btw I just wanted show a different perspective because in my specific experience being able to conceal my real name and my culture helped me have a Less Horrible time working with usamericans. This is also true for other call centers aimed at usa where I'm from btw and I'm sure that since it's common knowledge in my ESL culture, more info about it can be found about it online. NOT berating your tags or your experiences in any way btw this was more of a fun fact because as I was immersed in my side of the discrimination coin, I didn't know people working for the usa from INSIDE the usa AND ESPECIALLY working face to face had to deal with that too. It was really insightful to have another pov, ty for your tags
Thanks for sharing your experiences there, so interesting to read! And I'm sorry people were so shitty to y'all for using your real names! That's fuckin horri6
It was so weird having that dynamic with people visiting in person, because both some Thai and Chinese business partners of ours did this (apparently it was a norm in international business? I think it may be changing though) and meeting them in person? They were very obviously not from Midwestern US - like the names weren't fooling anyone if that was their bosses intent.
and when I asked how they felt about it, they all pretty much felt weird about it and said it was something their bosses made them do because "Americans aren't good with pronunciation" 😂😭 We ended up never using the American names unless we were emailing with their bosses.
I couldn't decide if I found it to be more racist or condescending tbh. Like on one hand the Americanization seemed racist? But on the other - enough ppl from enough countries are just like "these are some real dumb fucks we're dealing with, better ask our guys to call themselves Steve or something" (Honestly reasonable, the company I was at had a name that originated in another language, and half the company redneck-ed it up and pronounced it entirely differently)
“The Japanese infantry kept up their activity to our front and tried to infiltrate our lines every night, sometimes with success. Snafu made good about then on the threat he had made to the CP on Peleliu about any enemy headed toward the Company K CP. On Peleliu one night after we came off the lines Snafu shot two Japanese with his Thompson. He had killed one and fatally wounded the other. A sergeant made Snafu bury the dead soldier. Snafu objected strenuously because he said, and rightly so, if he hadn't shot the Japanese they would have kept on going right into the company CP. Sarge said maybe so, but the corpse had to be buried, and since Snafu had shot it, he must bury it. Snafu promised he would never shoot another enemy soldier headed for the CP.
One day as dawn broke with a thin fog and a pelting rain, Snafu woke me out of the nearest thing to sleep that could be attained in that miserable place with, "Halt who goes there? What's the password?"
Jolted out of my fatigue stupor, I saw Snafu's face silhouetted again the gray sky. Rain poured off his helmet, and drops of moisture on the end of each whisker of the thick stubbly beard on his jutting square jaw caught the dim light like glass beads. I snatched the Tommy up off my lap as he raised his .45 pistol and aimed it toward two dim figures striding along about twenty yards away. Visibility was so poor in the dim light, mist, and rain that I could tell little about the shadowy figures other than they wore U.S. helmets. At the sound of Snafu's challenge, the two men speeded up instead of halting and identifying themselves.
"Halt or I'll fire!" he yelled.
The two took off for the railroad bed as fast as they could on the slippery ground. Snafu fired several shots with his .45 but missed. Shortly we heard a couple of American grenades explode in the railroad bed. Then a buddy yelled that the Japanese had been killed by his grenades. Daylight came rapidly, so we went over to the railroad embankment to ask what had happened.
When Snafu and I got to the foxhole by the railroad embankment, we found two Marine snipers grinning and laughing. The grenade explosions had scared awake the Marines in the dryness under the tarpaulin in the company CP and had chased them out into the rain. They were drifting back to the shelter as we arrived. We waved, but got only glares in return.
We took a look at the dead enemy before returning to our foxhole. They had been wearing Marine helmets but otherwise were dressed in Japanese uniforms. A grenade had exploded in the face of one. There was no face and little head remaining. The other wasn't as badly mangled.
Snafu and I returned to our hole and got settled just in time to see Hank come stalking along from the CP. He was stopping at every foxhole along the way to find out who had been so negligent as to let the Japanese soldiers get past them and almost to the CP. Hank arrived at our foxhole and asked us why we hadn't seen the two soldiers pass if one of us was on watch as we were supposed to be.
Snafu spoke up immediately and said, "Hell, I saw 'em go right by here, but I reckoned they was headed for the company CP." (He didn't mention his challenging the Japanese or firing at them.)
Hank looked astonished and said, "What do you mean, Snafu?"
Snafu swelled with indignation and answered, "You remember when they made me bury that Nip I shot on Peleliu when them two was headed for the CP?"
"Yeah, so what?" answered Hank in a low, menacing voice.
"Well, I told them then if they made me bury 'im, then by God, next time I seen a Nip headin' for the CP I wasn't gonna' stop 'im!"
I groaned in a low voice, "Oooh, shut up, Snafu."
One didn't talk like that to a senior NCO and get away with it. Hank was a very formidable person and merited the tremendous respect we felt for him, but woe be unto the Marine who didn't do a task properly and incurred his wrath. Hank treated us with respect and compassion—if we followed orders and did our best. I had no desire to see what he would do to someone who didn't, but I thought I was about to. So I turned my head and half closed my eyes, as did all the awestruck men in the foxholes within earshot who had been watching Snafu and Hank.
Nothing happened. I glanced at Snafu and Hank as they stood there glaring at each other, a bantam rooster glaring up at a mighty eagle.
Finally, Hank said, "You'd better not let that happen again!" He turned and stalked back to CP.
Snafu mumbled and grumbled. The rest of us sighed with relief. I fully expected Hank at least to order Snafu to bury the two Japanese down there on the railroad, and then Snafu, as my corporeal, would order me onto the burial detail as had happened on Peleliu. But he didn't, and someone else spaded mud over the two corpses.
Much later, when Hank was leaving Company K for home after an outstanding record in three campaigns, I asked him what he had thought about that incident. He just looked at me and grinned, but wouldn't say anything about it. His grin revealed, however, that he respected Snafu and knew he wasn't lax in any way, and probably that he himself had been ordered by some officer to look into the affair.”
just wondering. why have art of red army's propaganda displaying dead bodies and the idea of "revenge" when the entire point of communist propaganda is showing positive impoverishment from the common worker or the poor? why would you ever think using the leader for propaganda was a good idea? plus showing dead bodies in propaganda is really strange its more of a fear tactic and revenge-y rather than a positive outlook on the effects his cause could have. also your rl design in general is very iffy. not sure why he's given a black uniform and hat instead of something much more modern and less..yknow.. like a blue or green also just because a few jewish anons say something is ok doesnt mean they speak on the entire jewish population. identity politics on this stuff isnt the best idea. esp since anyone can lie on anon
from the bottom of my heart this ask is absolutely wildin
im not aiming for communism here; these are all drawing inspo from socialist and american labor union posters
its for all my fellow job-havers who hate their bosses
its just playing on the common 'kill billionaires' and 'eat the rich' sentiment, something i think tord would latch on to very literally cause of his proclivity for violence
why i decided to make RL the subject? kinda cause i think at some point he was a layman that gets the struggle&frustration and should be the symbol of the movement he organized, but MOSTLY cause i just wanted to draw RL
we did this whole song and dance; it IS based on modern uniforms; it is designed the way it is cause its catered to me specifically; you dont have to like it man there are other RL designs out there and maybe even some thatd appreciate change suggestions
so i've been thinking about Israel, as one is wont to do following a terrorist attack from Hamas. this post is really not gonna sit well with a lot of my family but i can't sit by and continue to say nothing, to keep my mouth closed. to work under the double standard where they can praise Israel and shit-talk Palestinians freely, knowing Austin and I dont agree, but if i provide any pushback or counter-narratives, I'm the one being loud, pushing an agenda, making things political, causing trouble, etc. They use their connections as Jews with family living in Israel to justify their bad politics, but think me disingenuous when I claim my position is driven by the same connection. theirs is fine, cuz it leads to their politics, but i must be lying or mistaken or i don't really care about them for real or whatever bullshit they say at that time. but im gonna say what i have to say and they're welcome to ignore it if its too much for their political fragility.
there's a phrase i've been really into lately - informed simplicity. the world often gets more complex the more we know about it, and dealing with historical contingency is one of the better examples of this. but i never learned about it growing up. i was taught history as a series of "this group did this thing and that guy did that thing" rather than as a rich tapestry of political struggles and factional infighting and, yes often violence. but while history is complicated, where we're at is at times quite simple. yeah there's endless complexity to delve into the region's literal millennia of history, but thats then and this is now. Israel is wrong. its that simple.
but what makes it simple? it comes back to power and who has the ability to effect change, and in every single meaningful way, Israel has the political power, both locally and internationally, to change things and have intentionally denied Palestinians this political power. Gaza doesn't even have control of its own water supply, food sources, they have no freedom of movement, its the largest population density in the world and its ALL ghettos. meanwhile, the Israeli government has been pushing a project of settler colonialism to try and slowly wrest back control all for itself. take into account Israeli politics, the rise of Jewish Fascism, the frankly outright eliminationist rhetoric, the fact that its been decades now since there was any real push for peace or compromise, and where does that leave Palestinians?
the problem is that Israel has signaled time and again that it is fully committed to the eradication of the Palestinian people. to support this, i direct your attention to my mom and grandma (ill leave grandpa out of this for now) who I have heard with 0 reservations or qualifications say that all arabs could drop dead instantly and that'd be ok by them. and that's unfortunately not a radical position to hold if you poll the Israeli public. its actually outrageous how fucking bloodthirsty they are as a society and how open and honest they are. at least american Nazis have the good sense to not (usually) just outright say they wanna do Holocaust Part II Electric Boogaloo. and when they do, they're shunned by other Nazis for being bad optics. in Israel however that kinda rhetoric is just par for the course, with politicians regularly calling for increasing horrors to be inflicted on the palestinian people with no political consequences for them, they're just allowed to say that.
lemme relay a story i was told by an IDF officer while on birthright. him and his squad were sent to a Palestinian house at 3 am on what he admitted was not solid enough evidence for a warrant. when they got there they knocked, wait no they bashed the door down and rushed in with guns aimed. the family was about 8 ppl, 2 of whom were children. after arresting the 2 adult men, they proceeded to "tear up the place" (again this was his words, not my editorializing). they found nothing to give any indication anything bad was going on, but they still arrested the men "just in case". as they're leaving to go, he sees one of the kids, a young girl around 7 who was torn from her bedroom out of nowhere in the middle of the night and he personally had overturned her entire room, all her belongings. he explained that he had no choice but to step on her stuffed animals to make sure there wasn't anything inside. but he did feel a bit bad about stomping a kids toys right in front of her, and thats when it got wild for me, listening. he starts on about how he had this moral dilemma where he didn't know if he should bend down and clean up some of the room HE just DESTROYED, but came to the conclusion that he couldn't do that, cuz it would expose his back to (again, his words) "the enemy". the enemy here being a little girl, her little brother, and 4 women (cuz they already arrested the men, remember). oh and the 6 women and children here were being held at gunpoint with their hands above their heads, very scary group, i know, you're quivering how could u not. its just... something else to see someone so clearly and repugnantly warped by their hatred and fear of this group of ppl that hes describing an unjust raid on innocent civilians in this way. the paranoia on display was incredible and his inability to understand why the Palestinians might, ya know, HATE him and his ppl for what they've done and continue to do was even more so. thats the kind of brain-rot that this political rhetoric engenders.
lets look a bit at the Jewish Fascism tho, especially in contrast to Christian Fascism in america. just as the problems did not begin with donald trump but have been building in american politics for over half a century, the same is true in Israel. Netanyahu's far-right government isn't a bug, its a feature. The fate of the Israeli far-right has always been tied to the success of radical Islamic jihadis AND THEY KNOW IT. thats why they helped and funded Hamas, along with other extremist groups, and have to this day. because terror justifies and drives people towards reactionary right wing fervor. you have the perfect setup for fascism in terrorism, almost necessarily. its the perfect example of a threat which is everywhere and overpowering, but also weak and ineffectual. cuz terror attacks kill a lot of people and scare even more, but what they don't do is fundamentally challenge the status quo - its political violence that doesn't actually threaten to change anything. its a natural outgroup to other and spread hate about. in the US we usually default to immigrants and queer ppl, but Israel has a built-in "enemy at their doorstep" narrative to call upon
to talk about what actually happened tho, lemme draw a comparison to 9/11. i like to be provocative in saying that "america deserved 9/11" but what do i mean by this? i DONT mean that its good or acceptable for civilians to be hurt in a terror attack or that any individual americans deserved anything that happened that day. however, america caused 9/11 to happen through its foreign policy choices, and so any blood toll from that day, i place on america's head. our reckless disregard for others caused us to engage in geopolitics that all but insured right-wing religious extremists gained power, then we go all shocked pikachu face when Al-Qaeda lashes out in a futile attempt to stick it to American hegemony abroad. and would you look at that, it somehow turned out that the anti-american terrorism actually... helped the then GOP president. right wingers LOVE terrorism cuz they know it engenders rught wing sentiment and grows their political power. i mean does anybody think we would've gotten the prriot act without 9/11? obviously not. and the Israeli right is also aware of this
i think this is where i should address my views on Hamas itself, cuz i don't like them, at all actually. i think they're actually kinda evil, as much as im comfortable using moralizing language like that. but they make sense, politically speaking. when you take away people's hope, u doom yourself as well as them. political doomerism is rampant and it always drives people to radical politics. cuz if you see no possible route for change in the future, why not join hamas? at least they're doing something. the problem tho is that Hamas ISNT a revolutionary group, they're fundamentalist conservative religious extremists. they don't stand for palestinian liberation, they stand for their own power and religious edict, and they don't care who gets hurt in that pursuit, not even their own people. they're authoritarians who regularly abuse their own population to crack down on dissent.
but again, Israel caused Hamas. their blood toll is on Israel's head. and you can spin it whatever way you like, there's only 2 paradigms of solutions - unification or elimination. unification doesn't necessarily mean a 1-state solution, but even a 2-state solution will require unifying your goals and action. the only alternative is elimination in some form or other. its unfortunately clear that Israel has chosen the path of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. so no, i dont condone rhe attacks by Hamas, i mourn the dead and those rhat must live on alike. but this moment cannot be about a single terror attack, it has to be about solutions. and there will NEVER be a solution as long as Israel is violating international law so brazenly, defiantly, and with the financial and military backing of the US.
i find it incredible how opposed people can be in one breath to the idea of an ethnostate and then in the next breath they're cluelessly talking about Israel, not even realizing its definitionally an ethnostate. who had the great idea post-WWII, "ya know that whole Aryan ethnostate thing was pretty bad, lets make a safe place for a persecuted minority by giving them their OWN ethnostate (and by give we mean the forcible displacement of a million Palestinians from the land they've held for generations)". some fuckin genius, thats who, obviously.
i don't claim to have a perfect solution. there is no solution i can see that doesn't involve mass immiseration and many people left disappointed. but that doesnt give Israel the right to maintain an apartheid state. its another example of how neoliberal thought processes and a lack of systemic analysis are the death of progress. people look at this terror attack killing a few hundred people and they rapidly clutch their pearls to their chests cuz oh my what a disaster. but the conditions of the 2 million citizens in the gaza strip, that they take as a given, something that just is the way it is and be patient change will come, we promise, dont look at our actual policies and see that we absolutely have no plan of changing anything.
its a pattern of institutionalized pain and suffering being made invisible. think back to the demon in human skin that is Raegan. if any president "killed" as many people as raegan did with the queers suffering with HIV, they'd be put on trial. but his plan wasn't to "kill" them, it was to "let them die" a very different thing indeed. its how the US can justify the millions we killed and displaced in Afghanistan over the 2000 ppl that died in 9/11. oh but speaking of a 9/11's worth of deaths, covid at its peak was killing more people PER DAY than 9/11, but we don't do anything to hold anyone accountable for Trump's mishandling of the pandemic response. his pandemic deaths, Raegan's AIDS deaths, the millions of deaths in Afghanistan, these were all institutionalized, so they're fine.
Israel is the one with the political power to change things, not Hamas, not Gaza, not the Palestinian Authority, and not the palestinian people. any and all blood is on the STATE OF Israel's head and as long as they continue in their eliminationist statecraft, it will continue to be so. Israel's policies will continue to get Jews killed because the more desperate things get for the Palestinians, the more it'll look to people like their only slim hope of change is through the extremism of Hamas. i mean they call the Palestinians terrorists when they do advocacy, peaceful protest, or politically morivated violence, so if the rhetoric about them is the same no matter what they do...? its time to let it go. stop the institutional violence on the Palestinians, give them their human and political rights back, and stop making things worse through your stubborn clinging to fear and hate. and if you dont let those go, then the future terror attacks and tensions are also on your head. the blood of every single jew is on your head as well, and i can only pray its a greater burden than you can bear.
Just went down the linguistic rabbit-hole of why castles in chess can also be called rooks (cause I've always called them castles and kind of assumed that rook was an outlier term or an American way of saying castle, turns out loads of people just say rook lol) and there's actual etymology for it and everything it's because originally they were shaped like chariots (the Persian name for which was rukh if I'm remembering right) and anyway I won't go into it because I should be doing homework but this Wikipedia jaunt has united my two nerdy loves of chess and linguistics
Anyway how are you bestie!!
bro I love that so much. the word origin rabbit holes are too real. not entirely relevant, but calling it a castle has always seemed too on the nose for me. like we have such a fun name right there! also it's hardly a full castle.. also there's the little fact that castles don't move.. I like to imagine there are little archers in the tower and can only aim straight in one direction or the other hehe
and im doing alright!! busy since I'm working two jobs now. but my little bro visited this last weekend and bry and I started the podcast back up this month and I've been trying to write more :) and all that has just been very good for me. I hope you're doing well!!
Some oc sketches
Makoto Aomine
Tumblr media
It feels like I haven't drawn her for ages though
the most resent sketch was several days ago lol
Idk why I'll drop some facts about her cause I have nothing to do
× she's a saggitaririus. actually idk why, cause im not a sagg myself and I can't really relate, though... one day I did my natal chart and saw I have sagg moon so 🤷‍♀️ im somehow related
× I guess I'd hate her if she existed irl. She's that type of a person who talk about themselves as if it's the most interesting info you could hear today. And probably very emotional
× she's actually a smart person though sometimes impulsive. She's smart and acts smart while I'm smart and act sarcastic
× she hates numerology, omens, horoscopes etc because thinks she'll fall for it and start believing that shit and then will be dependent on such things
× I guess Makoto is an ESFP Se-Fi-Te-Ni
About her Se dom: She has a perfect muscular memory, never forget where she put her things and actually lives the moment. The now now mode. Her egoism grows out of Fi aux, she is very self-oriented though in case her uncle was the one who brought her up she has an anxious thought thats not how it works, she must do everything to others. That's a conflict in her
Te tret: well sometimes she could fall into phase "I'm the one who knows how to live, others don't know a thing ". She's the one who don't wanna be iudged by people THOUGH SHE LITERALLY DO THE OPPOSITE. Makoto likes to point out others mistakes to them, sometimes she isn't cautious enough with other people, but she is able to understand she hurt someone (bruh but only if she imagined herself in the same situation)
Like the compulsive idea of "helping others" conflicts with her egoistic nature, though in the end Makoto gives up and accept that uncle's philosophy. If she was LUCKI HUH to live with the diaboys she'd constantly think:" who else if not me? I'm the best option, I'm the most useful person"
Yeah sounds complicated
Her Ni though is very suppressed. The majority of her nightmares are about her future and death lol
× tf I don't know what her ennea is. 2w3 maybe, cause she acts as if wants to pursue her aims, though without other people feels she's useless
× afraid of being abandoned cause her mother did that
× tritype is something like 287 or 286 hm
× she's kinda "based" on Asuka + Misato from Evangelion
× she's that one-san archetype in anime with sexy older sister
× her appearance is somehow based on Hitagi Senjogahara from Bakemonogatari
× her name comes from heroine's name from "The girl who leaped through time"
× Eh I thought Makoto×Laito is my fav and only romantically ship here but since I read Ruki's MB... I'm thinking about Makoto×Ruki lol
× she's half japanese half american
Yo that's all =]
Now you know I don't like self insert
happy May Day! you recommended Behind the Music to me a few months ago and i finally watched it. i actually enjoyed it quite a bit and it reminded me of the musician biopics they used to have on VH1 (perhaps dating myself lol). figured you’d know the answer to this though, was the last of Liberace’s partners supposed to be a composite character? i noticed they call him Glenn instead of Cary. thanks for the rec either way!
BRO omg happy may day 600 years later 🫡 sorry this got buried under all the bots telling me to kill myself lmao
anyway im so glad you watched and enjoyed behind the music! i think i already said this to somebody i recommended it to on here but one of my favorite things about it is that it has that jacksons an american dream, temptations, whats love got to do with it tv movie vibe where it’s absolutely low budget and corny but still totally earnest and amazing. considering what else we have to work with, behind the music really is the gold standard of liberace biopics if nothing else than for victor garber’s perfect and empathetic performance
but yeah to answer your question “glenn” is definitely supposed to be cary! in a nutshell, behind the music was produced/creatively helmed by seymour heller, liberace’s career-long manager who features heavily in the movie. without getting too much into it, there was a major split in the liberace camp following liberace’s death which resulted in his estate being placed in the hands of his lawyer who became his executor under very suspicious circumstances. this lawyer then essentially cut seymour, cary, and several of liberace’s friends/employees out of the running of the estate and immediately set upon financing a liberace biopic (liberace 88) that aimed to sanitize much of liberace’s personal life in an attempt to recover his legacy from his AIDS-related death
behind the music was seymour’s response to liberace 88 and (as you know) focuses almost entirely on liberace’s personal life and struggle to live as a gay public figure. like most people in liberace’s inner circle, seymour liked cary and even acted as a character witness for him when liberace’s estate evicted him and started auctioning off things that liberace gave him without his consent. it’s clear from the way their relationship is depicted in behind the music that seymour saw cary as the love of liberace’s life and wanted to honor their relationship in a way no other liberace movie has before or since. at the same time, cary was an intensely private person and loyal partner to liberace who only ever gave one interview about their life together when he was dying and needed the $ so i’d imagine that either out of respect for cary or because he expressly declined to be part of it, the cary character became glenn
Hi there!
I'm curious to know about your WIP The Boar's Bride. Since it's the username for your blog, I'm curious about how long you've been working on it.
Hope you have a fantastic day :^)
Tumblr media
YOOOOO OK LETS GOO!!!!!!!!
Thanks sm for the ask, this is a WIP I definitely don't talk about A LOT, and idk if that is a good or bad thing hdhdkshskdjdkjdskjd
SO!
CONCEPT: The Boar's Bride is a fanfiction (that is both on hiatus and that I have hopes to alter into a piece of original fiction) for NBC's Hannibal TV series, but also heavily draws in canonical lore from Thomas Harris's Hannibal Lecter novels and the films based on them. It's also intended to be something of a retelling of the Bluebeard fairytale!
HOWEVER. That being said: this story is fic for dark properties and contains dark themes that may be considered triggering for some (such as physical and emotional ab*se, gaslighting, religion, psychological horror, and implications/references to r*pe and p*dophilia, though the latter of which I will only vaguely allude to out of personal comfort).
OK SO IM REALLY REALLY BAD AT WRITING SUMMARIES BUT HERE IS A QUICK ONE:
Edith Watts, in an impulsive attempt at freedom following her twenty-first birthday, moves to the United States' from her comfortable, though sheltered, life in London in an attempt to escape the shadows of her famous author parents and pursue dreams of seeking her own fame as a painter. In Maryland she creates a new life for herself, and is thriving in her passions of painting wintry American landscapes, participating in local art shows and hosting classes, and forging newfound friendships.
Though her life changes when, after an art show, she is commissioned to paint the portrait of the enigmatic and charismatic, though secretive, Mason Verger (young, and yet to be maimed at the hands of Hannibal Lecter).
Despite warnings (including the appearances of a phantasmic, boar-shaped entity of shadow and darkness) regarding the dark, shady history of the Verger family, Edith in her naivety allows herself to be swept away to Mason's luxurious manor with its wonderous gardens and breathtaking views of the Appalachian wilderness.
And she finds herself seduced into becoming his bride, and marrying him, taking the name she'd been warned so heavily of.
However, this seemingly idealistic, perfect, fairytale marriage crumbles once facades begin to fall and dark truths come to light, and Edith only comes to realize that she is trapped in her role of being the Boar's Bride when it's, perhaps, too late to escape...
Until Dr. Hannibal Lecter offers her a chance for salvation...
So yeahhhhhh I'm bad at writing summaries, and ultimately The Boar's Bride is a psychological horror drama with themes of how the effects of abuse haunts victims, as well as the damaging effects certain depictions of romance in fiction can have on younger peoples' views on real-life romantic relationships.
But also I based my current username off of this WIP because uhhhhhhhh this blog was created with the intention of being a Hannibal Roleplay blog and uhhhhhhhhh i just changed it into a writing/art one while keeping the username because idk it felt cool ajsldlkslkldklsdslk 😅😭
To explain Edith's story a LITTLE better, here's a Google doc to her character bio I wrote a bit ago:
Thanks again for the ask!!!!!
would love to hear any headcanons about mel raising alex, ruth's own attempts to mother alex, how alex reacts to melruth, etc!
Oh my god I just spent like an hour answering this and then got Blue Screen of Death, im gonna murder someone istg
ANYWAY
Oooh parenting, that’s my jam. For ease I’m going to ignore Melanie’s Wife AU for this. Some of these contradict each other and some are out of order because fuck the police
Melanie reading every book and journal about pregnancy and birth that she can find and then becoming a paranoid mess
Melanie having a traumatic birth
Melanie getting postnatal depression and anxiety
Melanie struggling to breastfeed
Wilford offering Melanie a year off work because he’s not American an asshole, but Melanie being unable to stay away for that long
Melanie struggling to put on a baby carrier and cursing because “I’m an engineer how hard could this possibly be?”
Melanie deciding she wants to do Montessori parenting and her own parents being so confused like “girl why is your infant on a mattress on the floor” and “you cannot expect a two year old to make their own fruit salad Melanie”
Alex being a late walker and a late talker and Melanie being so hurt and confused because she’s sure she did everything right
Alex going from practically non-verbal to reading books by herself in the space of a few months because she’s hyperlexic
Someone suggesting Alex is displaying autism traits and Melanie laughing because “if that’s autism then I’m autistic too ha ha ha”
Alex traumatising other pre-schoolers by telling them where meat comes from
Melanie forgetting Alex one too many times at daycare that her parents finally just agree to watch her
Melanie’s mom teaching Alex how to do housework and saying “your mom just won’t learn this, that’s why she can’t keep a man”
Melanie telling Alex bedtime stories that always involve a perpetual motion engine
Melanie and Alex getting into screaming matches because Melanie doesn’t know how to work through her parenting triggers
Alex being sick to death of always being compared to her mother
Melanie deciding on a whim to homeschool Alex, but sending her back to school a week later after Wilford caught Alex doing algebra at the helm
Alex catching every cold and snotty nose and Melanie making her disgust obvious every time she has to wipe a nose or use a snot sucker
Melanie forgetting she was supposed to meet her parents and Alex at Disneyland, forcing her dad to go on all of the rides with Alex instead
Ruth’s character rehabilitation of Melanie being squarely aimed at Alex, not other passengers
Ruth using the weed trade route to sneak little trinkets of Melanie’s to Alex on Big Alice
“God you look just like her when you concentrate”
“How are you, Alex?” because there’s not much more she can ask whilst he is there
Ruth beating herself up for not getting on the pirate train because she promised Melanie one thing and she failed
Ruth praying more for Alex’s safety than for Melanie’s because Melanie can take care of herself but keeping Alex safe was supposed to be her job
Ruth barely being able to look at Alex when she finds out Melanie is dead because her face is too stark of a reminder
Alex: why should I even talk to her?
Ruth: because every single decision she makes is out of love. For you. For the train. For humanity.
Ruth choosing New Eden even though she desperately wants to choose Melanie, because she promised to look out for Alex. Ruth leaving because “I love you too much to stay”
Ruth plaiting Alex’s hair in New Eden
Alex becoming a mentor to Winnie since they’re practically sisters now
Alex coming out to Ruth
Alex sometimes coming to ask Ruth to tell stories about what her mom was like in the time they were apart. Alex sometimes wanting to tell Ruth what her mom was like before the freeze. Ruth just putting on a brave face the whole time because Alex is more important than her feelings, even if seeing her reminds Ruth every day how much she misses Melanie.
R: Alex I need to talk to you. I’ve been thinking of moving in with your mom because she’s really important to me, I hope to be by her side forever, but I don’t want to make it weird for you because you are the most important thing to her always and I respect that.
A:......
R:.....
A:... just leave a sock on the door and I’ll know to sleep in the engine
R: No that’s not what I… I mean yeah that’s a good tip and we’ll probably do that but
A:....
R: what I’m asking is - is it okay if I sit next to you and knit whilst you and your mom play chess? Is it okay if some days I bring back noodles from the market? Is it ok if some of your mom’s nights off I take her to look at the stars? Is it ok if I tidy the pile of shoes by the door and add mine? Is it okay if I leave some teabags next to the coffee? A: You already do those things, Ruth.
R: Ok but can I do them officially, or?
21 year old Alex cuddling up to Ruth on the sofa eating ice cream because they both had bad dreams about Melanie leaving them again:
A: hey mum, tell me again what it was like, when you and mom first started working together
R, pulling a silly face: you already know that story, Alex!
A: yeah but I just like hearing about how she didn’t realise you were flirting with her for seven years like Jesus mom you useless sapphic
Alex asking Ruth how to tell Carly how she really feels. Ruth “sorry kiddo I’ve been in love with your mom since the day I met her and I still don’t know how to tell her”
“Hey mom, this is kinda a weird question, but did you and Ruth ever… ya know? ‘Cus she’s always kinda making eyes at you.”
A: At the same time as Ben??? MOM!
M: it was a weird time, Alex.
A: I think you’re probably poly, mom.
M: poly…nomial?
A: polyamorous jesus christ mom it means you can fall in love with more than one person at a time
M: oh. Yeah that sounds right.
“Will you two just kiss already?”
