I love Mockingjay so much because it is unflinchingly brutal to Katniss and Peeta when you expect it to elevate them to rebel leader status, and yes, Katniss still inspires people, beautifully, powerfully, genuinely (and it really is only when she’s being genuine), but at such a steep cost. Ultimately, she and Peeta are? sidelined for the final act (for months? I think it’s for months! that are glossed over in a few words) … and then … just … sort of … dumped … with Haymitch and a phone therapist. And oh it’s such a perfect subversion and it’s exactly what the whole rest of the series is leading towards.

my thoughts are not articulate at the moment but there's something beautiful and fascinating to me in the way nona explores the idea of selfhood and our relationship to our bodies that really resonated with me as a nonbinary person. nona's presentation and self conceptualisation being so horribly different both from harrow and from alecto (who is in turn the eve to john's adam). the tragedy of palamedes and camilla, and their perfect kind of love. everything about pyrrha dve. ianthe in babs. the lyctor princes. kiriona stuck in her depersonalised, dead body. the transhumanism of it all. john annihilating the world in nuclear fire and rebuilding the human form from the ashes. my thoughts here are incoherent but this theme just. resonated incredibly strongly with me and i wanted to ramble about it.

Nick as a character is just so glorious. He’s confused, he’s smart, he’s stoic and so deeply emotional, he’s an artist, he’s a soldier, he makes mistakes, he’s autistic, and above all he is good

Thinking about...how Chuuya slapped his chest when he said that the lives of the Flags were burning within him, fueling him.
And about how Rimbaud now lives inside Verlaine's chest, literally fueling his life with his singularity.

Finally finished Nona the Ninth. There are no words for the emotions I’m feeling.
Tamsyn Muir is a mad fucking genius and I can’t tell if I’ve been healed on a spiritual level or dealt a blow I may never recover from. Maybe both.

Soon the angel found that its cheeks were growing warm, and everything looked softer than it had before. When it lifted its hands and cupped Little Ash's face in them, it found that his cheeks were also soft, but cooler than its own. It almost wanted to press their two faces together, to see if his cool skin would feel soothing. Little Ash's eyelashes cast a shadow that hid the bruises under his eyes, and with the bright lights, Uriel could see the galaxy of his freckles. This face it knew better than its own, because it only ever saw its own face by accident, and Little Ash's face it was always either looking at, or searching for. It wanted to tell him everything that had ever happened, in its whole existence, and why every single thing it was telling him had led to them both being here, and why that was a miracle. "Ashel," Uriel said. "Will you dance with me?"

Soooooo, guys. Odysseus and Diomedes finally reached Limbo, and...
Tumblr media
Ok so uh.
On one hand, I get it. We can't have these two stay in Limbo for half of the book.
Now, on the other WHY I WAS LITERALLY HOPING TO SEE THIS SO BAD WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME-
Are you seriously telling me that out of all the Trojans in Limbo (aka: literally every Trojan ever minus Paris, if we follow Dante's Inferno) absolutely not a single one of them wanted to beat Diomedes and ESPECIALLY Odysseus' ass??
Deiphobus? Sarpedon? Andromache??? Fuck, I would literally PAY to have a scene where Andromache just throws a chair at them or something.
But alas, the narrative had to move on.
Honestly I am this close to writing something about that myself because what the hell it's such a fun premise and you do not get to foreshadow it TWICE (earlier in the book Diomedes mentions how Hector hit him with a rock once with Aeneas, yes I do consider it foreshadowing even though it isn't) AND THEN NOT USE IT.
But also the reunion between Penelope and Odysseus was absolutely top tier so I'll let this slide. Don't worry Eighth Arrow, you're still my favorite book.
