Note
I saw one of my friends repost your aro-ace comment on Instagram about how we, as a society, put emphasis on family and relationships ahead of friendships… (it was about a reddit thread) and it kind of makes me wonder why we, as a society, put so much emphasis on relationships? I feel like the need to find, have, and keep a partner is so strong in our society that it seems to me that it certainly contributes heavily to the rampant issues of misogyny in our culture. Incel culture, for instance, is centered around the idea of being able to have a partner - just look at their name, involuntary celibate.
I’m no student of psychology, so I don’t really know what I’m talking about and I’m speaking out of my ass. But your text post really got me thinking about that - I just wanted to know your thoughts? Do you think we, as a society, value friendship enough?
I cannot believe that post broke containment!
You're absolutely right about it contributing to misogyny, and that's an excellent point about incel culture. There's also this whole spinster vs bachelor idea that has been discussed for ages - how single women are considered 'sad' if they are unmarried but single men are sometimes considered to be 'too wild to be tamed or tied down' if they are unmarried. And even that is only not sad if they are sleeping around a lot - which then also contributes to incel culture. That is a super interesting avenue of thought - thanks for bringing it up!
I have been thinking on your question for a while, and while I'm absolutely no expert either, I do have some thoughts.
I think within societies, friendship is valuable when you're young.
Now, before I explain this, I'd like to preface by saying that I am generalising here and will use examples of Western (and Indian) media to explain my point but different countries/cultures do have different views on friendships, families, romantic relationships, etc. so there is always a cultural nuance to these things that I won't be getting into in my response.
Getting back to the point at hand, I think friendships are important for the young. I remember a quote by the creators of the TV show Friends about how they wanted to write a show about 'the time in your life when friendships are your family.' There is the implication that friendships are your family when you're 'too old' to be close to your parents but 'too young' to have a family of your own. Aka your early twenties. I believe this is a mentality that is perpetuated by many other movies and shows, but must also clearly be reflecting the way a lot of relationships work in Western countries because these movies and shows are made to be relatable to the general masses.
Media about friendships revolve around how valuable and important friendships are (Friends, Will & Grace, Sex and the City, etc.) but they all end the same way - with everyone pairing up and starting families to denote a “happy ending” and 'moving on' to adulthood. If there is anyone not paired up at the end, the audience consensus is generally that it's really sad that they didn't find anyone, even if they end up with professional success or are otherwise happy.
In Indian media, romance is important but equal to family (parents specifically). In Indian culture, many times family (parents) is more important than romance. Friendships, however, always seem to be second tier. Even Bollywood movies about friendships (Dil Chahta Hai, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai etc.) are all still primarily about finding the great romantic love of your life. And many of the main conflicts of Bollywood films are about the family and romantic partners clashing - friendships aren't even generally considered important enough to be a factor that provides conflict, many times because it doesn't affect your future at all.
While there is a difference between relationship hierarchies in Indian and American media (and cultures), it seems like the one thing they agree on is that friendships are not as important as romance.
But we've all met those people who are reluctant to get into romantic relationships because they don’t want to ruin friendships, so there is a pervading idea that friendships are important! Sometimes more than romance! But it's an idea that people out grow in their mid-twenties, and eventually the implication is that once you get a 'lifelong' partner - who is always a romantic partner - they take precedence and the friendships become second tier. This change seems to happen with age and is not considered sad because everyone follows the same life trajectory! Right?
But for everyone who doesn't want to or can't have a future that revolves around a romantic partner, there’s also a big question mark when you try to imagine the future. Because suddenly friendships aren't the most important thing anymore.
So in a general sense, I do think people value friendships... at a certain age. But I think it is considered to be a temporary phase. The question I want to ask is why? Why can't we put more emphasis on building communities instead of just structuring futures around a romantic partner? Why can't the communities involve relationships that aren't just romantic and/or familial? Sure it works for some people, but it also doesn't work for a lot of other people.
And it's not just about aspecs either. It's also about people who've been in abusive relationships, people who's spouses leave them after marriage, people who simply just don't want a traditional family set-up (see Shonda Rhimes, for example), etc. We need alternative options! That doesn't necessarily mean friendships are the solution, but I think they could be one of the solutions. Why can't a Friends-esque situation be the future - with someone living in the same building with several of their best friends, all of them helping each other out? Why can't someone just decide they want to live with their parents with both parties taking care of each other? Why isn't just having kids without having a romantic partner seen as something normal? Why can't we return to community based systems where the whole 'village' helps each other out with all the activities needed to keep life going smoothly?

Let me share a recent personal experience on a cab. I was out with few of my friends for a meet up. We took a cab to reach a restaurant because that would have been the easiest way. One of my friend was a little disturbed because she is planning for her social marriage in the next year. So, we all were discussing about that. She was mentioning how difficult it is for her to handle everything and make arrangements. FYI- she is legally married, her registry marriage took place this year.
My friend complained that she is having frequent panic attacks at night thinking about how she is going to handle the situation. The rest of us started asking her different questions like whether she will be getting support from her parents for the preparation or why is planning for such a huge social arrangement since she is legally married. Because we belong to the middle class society and spending lacs and lacs of money for others entertainment during the wedding is not fashionable.
People who want to do lavish wedding and have the best experience of their life, shoutout to you all and heartiest congratulations. But that is not just my thing and neither for my friends.
While we were discussing every aspect- financial, mental, physical all the stress during the huge occasion, we were suddenly interrupted by our Cab Bhaiya. He interrupted us and did apologize for his behavior. But he was not able to control the words that came out of him. He said "Mam ek baat batau, maine bhi kuch din pehle shaadi kia lockdown mei. Sab taiyariyan ho gayi thi ki dhoom dhaam se shaddi karenge. humlog bihari hai to 8-9 lacs to lagta hi hai humari shaadi mei. But fir achanak lockdown ho gaya aur sab bandh ho gaya. Maine apni wife ko call lagaya aur bola tumko akele mei shaddi karna hai. Pehle toh wo raji nhi hui yeh soch ke ki log kya kahenge, but phir maan gayi. Ma'am sacchi batatu hu log baat to kiya ki shaddi mei khilaya bhi nhi but abhi bhool bhi gaye hai aur baat bhi nhi hota. Jo paisa maine jama kiya tha us paise se maine apna cab khareda aur business start kiya hai aur baki paise se mai wife ko UPSC exam prepare karwa raha hu."
We were all just in awe with him. Yes, I know the last statement was very very unexpected coming from him right!
Two things- we as humans tend to assume everything according to what little knowledge we have and set a perception about people. Secondly, this is life where we can find motivation from such great examples, we do not need to only look up to the celebrities or very accomplished people. We can look around us and we will find numerous such examples and real life relatable stories.
Hope we all learnt something from this and let us normalize wedding! It is a very important aspect of life but it is not life.

Get to know me tag game
thanks for the tag lovely @queen-of-salt-and-fury!
Nicknames: lol, I mean, my fake internet name is basically a nickname, also “C”, all the broski, brosauce, etc variations me and my bestie use, speaking of, could also consider Elsa a nickname, or Cristina, because we are stone cold adults to refer to each other as our respective personality double in favourite duos (Elsa and Anna, and Meredith and Cristina) - yeah, we know we are fucking lame. My sister calls me “Titly”, which means butterfly, you may now also refer to me as Your Majesty, because I bought Elsa’s crown as a birthday gift for myself and gave myself a coronation, thereby legally making me Arendelle’s Queen. This is how it works now right? Declaring something online immediately makes it true.
Real name: Clara, lol, it’s not, it’s just what I’ve been using online for nearly a decade or so now, so what’s the point? But my real middle name is “Taika”, which is a name I share with Taika Waititi, which is cool.
Zodiac: Scorpio
Favourite Musicians / Band: Taylor Swift, Dima Bilan, Sergey Lazarev, Anime OST (deep into Code Geass and Bleash OST atm, god they were iconic), OST in general, KAZKA (thank you again so much @pulltheskydown for introducing me to her), Alma, Amir, Rihanna, Polina Gagarina, been in a Britney mood the last few weeks. Idk, I just have music I like, and music I don’t like, and some people I am very thirsty for. Also, also, literally any song from any Shahrukh Khan movie. I always was, still am, and always will be, one of those SRK loving bitches. The man is ICONIC.
Do I get asks?: Once in a blue moon.
Favourite sports team: I support the national teams ‘cause Go Canada Go or whatever. Also more invested in the Raptors than I ever thought I’d be, but hey, them winning the NBA last year gave me more serotonin than I ever thought boring sports could give me. It’s still so boring, but I do follow the scores when they appear on CP24 (local news channel), feels good when your city’s teams win. Guess that means by default I also support the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs, but whatever.
Other blogs: lol, you are talking to the Queen of Too Many blogs right here. My first ever main was @livesinabluebox (which has gone through a few url changes, namely melanin-monster and moonrxvenge, but it’s 2012 again so I switched back to my og url), I’m trying to clear out all my likes so I’m still posting there, but trying to move to my new main over @moonrxvenge. And I also have 600 million sideblogs for characters and roleplays and resources and whatever. I have so many that I need to keep a masterlist, and yes, it is HELLA out of date. (I still say hella)
Tumblr Crushes: meh, I never really befriended people on tumblr until much more recently, and like all those people are friends I made elsewhere, ie polyvore (I shy, tumblr scary and got far too many stupid peoples opinions).
Obvs, shoutouts to my loves @kzombi3 / @thots4daze @themadmonarchist @celestialfairies @alittlebitluna @eternalsailorstar @ayzrules @themonsterslut @turquoisesiren @pulltheskydown
some tumblr people who are v cool and maybe I say things or just do that whole “senpai notice me” lowkey stalking from my main, main: @queen-of-salt-and-fury @daenerys-targaryen  @salty-sailors-unite @wellstartled and loads of others I’m probably forgetting rn
Lucky numbers: as a kid I considered 7 and 13 lucky, also 735 or something like that for islam reasons I forgot, but I don’t have any now. I think it’s all bull.
What am I wearing: blue pajamas. my shirt says “happy monday - said nobody ever”, it is thursday.
Dream holiday: Russia and Japan are definitely my number ones, all the historical places like the Winter Palace and Himeji Castle, and the cities.
Dream car: Tesla, it was a blue Model S, but that was 5 years ago (4? 3? idk, a time ago) and I’m sure there are newer models now that I am too lazy look up
Favourite food: Macarons
Drink of choice: Tim Hortons Ice Coffee with a shot of caramel
Instruments: I technically played the flute for a year (maybe three) in middle school music class, but it was mandated and I don’t remember. I could play the beginning of To Love’s End from Inuyasha back then, but not now. I can play the main tune, like just the first few notes, of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s main theme on the piano, but I just memorized the keys. Idk the actual notes. F or G or E I guess? Idk.
Languages: English, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, technically French, but I didn’t really retain anything from it, like I can read French, but got little to no idea what I’m saying. Straight up surprised when I do understand. I think it’s in there, but barely. Also supposed to be able to speak Arabic, but retained less of that than French.
Celebrity crushes: Chris Evans, Jenna Coleman, SRK (lol, since I was born probably), Kajol, Bruna Marquezine, Yuki Kimisawa, and loads of others. I’m a hoe for the fictional and the theoretical, what can I say?
Random facts: Buying notebooks and using them are two entirely different hobbies, and, okay, this isn’t like interesting in the least but I am OBSESSING over the drama that went down between Salman Khan and Zayn over his cover of Allah Duhai Hai - yeah, I know I’m 2 years late to this, but whatever, no fucking told me about it and I can’t find any definitive information and I’m going crazy! Please, someone explain what happened 'cause I am dying!!! I need to know!! (also, salman fans don’t interact, vo kuni hai yaar, tu phagal hai kya?)
I’ll tag: all of you lovelies  @kzombi3 / @thots4daze @themadmonarchist @celestialfairies @alittlebitluna @eternalsailorstar @ayzrules @themonsterslut @turquoisesiren @pulltheskydown @queen-of-salt-and-fury @daenerys-targaryen @salty-sailors-unite @wellstartled + whoever else wants to do it (and ofc tag me and befriend me, I am but a thirsty ass hoe for friendship)

I can't believe I reached 3k followers!!! Thank you all so much!! When I started this blog, I hoped to reach 100 followers one day, and now here we are!
So to thank you all and mark the date, I'm making a little event! The theme is simple : movies!
What is it all about?
Under the cut are a list of prompts and scenes from different movies. You can choose between two different things that you would like me to write:
-        You can choose between 1 and 5 prompts along with a character and I will write a one-shot based on these prompts for the character you have chosen
-        You can choose one scene in the list and a character, and I will re-write that scene for the character you have chosen
A few rules to follow if you want to send a request.
-        If you request for the prompts :
- You can request up to 5 prompts, not more
- You can add a few details that you would like to be featured in your request if you have precise ideas
 -        If you request a scene :
- I will write a one-shot that is inspired by that scene, not the exact same scene (obviously, otherwise, where is the fun?). The idea is to get the same spirit and some references, or the same situation, but not a simple copy.
- These scenes will require me to turn AU!, so don't be surprised.
- You can request only one scene, so choose wisely ;)
- I will most likely 'erase'  the characters who were in the original scenes, so don't be surprised.
No matter if you request for prompts or for a scene :
- You can request for any character on my masterlist, no matter if I've already written for them or not.
- I have no trouble with anons, if you're a little shy. So don't hesitate to send a request on anon if you feel more comfortable this way.
- Please, send me your request through my askbox and not in a PM. It's much easier for me to manage, and I might forget about your request if you send it to me privately. If you're shy, send an ask on anon.
- Sadly, I will probably not be able to write all the requests that are sent my way. I will write as many as I can, but I'm only human. I'm sorry if I don't get to write your request. But I invite you to send it anyway, because I might write your request! If you don't send it, then you can be sure that I won't though. Again, I'm sorry if I can't write all the requests I receive, but I usually get too many to be able to write them all.
Requests for this event will be up for one week, which means until January 14!
Considering how well this event works, I may change that date along the way.
Thank you all again and I hope you like this event :D

 Scenes :
The links to the scenes on youtube are set in the titles of the movies, so it can be easier for you to choose. I'll re-write the scene entirely so you and the character of your choice can live it ;) It can be set either in the universe of the character you have chosen or the universe of the original scene depending on the scene you choose.
 1. Indiana Jones : Raiders Of The Lost Ark
You are so close to finding this lost treasure. Bad for you that you have fallen in a cave filled with deathly traps.
 2. Jurassic Park
You thought you would enjoy a nice weekend discovering an amazing scientific breakthrough. Now, here you are, hiding from a T-Rex and wondering how you got yourself in this situation…
 3. The Shop Around The Corner / You've Got Mail
You have a date with someone tonight, but you don't know who. All you know is that you are to meet in that café. All turns crazy when your date is actually this colleague of yours whom you hate… kinda…
 4. L'Arnacoeur
Your family engaged him/her to seduce you, so you would break your engagement with this guy they hate. Bad luck that for once, he/she falls for you too…
 5. Love Affair / An Affair To Remember / Sleepless In Seattle
It's love at first sight. But perhaps the two of you are getting ahead of yourselves. You give each other a bit of time to think, and set up to meet at the top of the Empire State Building, if in six months, you still feel the same for each other. But will you both be there?
 6. The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian
The only way to win this war is to earn more time. And a fight one on one with your enemy is the best way you can come up with. But who will survive the fight? Will it be enough?
 7. The Lord Of The Rings : The Fellowship Of The Ring
You are trapped in Moria. A Balrog chasing after you. This looks pretty bad… yep… that's bad…
 8. Roman Holiday
You are a princess in your country, but for one day, you have managed to escape your duties, and you are now roaming through the streets of Roma. A stranger helps you through the streets of the city and you spend a magical day…
 9. The Holiday
You have exchanged your house for the holiday with a woman in England. You expected a quiet week, but that was before you would meet the woman's brother…
 10. The Lake House
Through your mail box, you somehow receive letters from the man who used to live in your house 5 years ago. Through the letters you exchange, you slowly start to develop feelings for each other. Until one day you decide to meet, and set up a date. But he never comes. You realize that he didn't come because he had died during these five years that separated the two of you. But you may have one last chance to save him…

★ Salman Khan Bharat Exclusive: I have done mediocre work for friends. Now I have to intensely like the script !
Salman Khan, in an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, speaks on his Eid 2019 release Bharat, Katrina Kaif, the kind of scripts he chooses and more.
Ananya Bhattacharya  | June 4, 2019
It is the evening before the release of Bharat. Salman Khan's big return to the big screen. His last Eid release was a dampener and all hopes are pinned on Bharat, the film that will see Salman reuniting with Katrina Kaif after 2017's Tiger Zinda Hai.
The superstar speaks to IndiaToday.in on Bharat eve. Excerpts from the conversation:
What is 'Bharat' - the idea of Bharat - for you?
Bharat. The film Bharat, we have produced and we are very proud of. Bharat to me, is the place where I was born, the place where I will die. There is no better place anywhere than Bharat.
When the Prime Minister swore in, you could not attend because of Veeru Devgan's death. Has it always been family and friends above everything else for you?
Yes, it's always been that. When you see my whole journey, it's always been about my friends and my family. For them too, it's been the same thing. For those people for whom they are not, they are obviously not for family. So obviously, it has to be reciprocal. And if you also see from the time I started, from Maine Pyar Kiya, the love that I have got from the fans, from kids, from senior people, from just about everyone... it's been phenomenal. So it has just been a really really phenomenal journey. All these 30+ years that I have been in the industry. I think since the time I was born.
You have ruled the film industry for the past 30 years...
Not ruled... I wouldn't say ruled...
I think the most part is love in your case...
Yes, it's love.
In Sultan, we saw that belly. In Tubelight, we saw you as a simpleton. In Bharat, we have you as a 70-year-old. After Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has it been a conscious effort to step out of your comfort zone?
This is actually my comfort zone. When you have a great script, and it is demanding in the same kind of genre... it is actually that. What is difficult is to make a bad script work. No matter how good you are, no matter how good you are as an actor... you can never pull off a bad script.
From Bajrangi Bhaijaan in the recent past, you have chosen scripts that resonate with your audience.
It was much before Bajrangi Bhaijaan. It was during a time when I got complacent and I used to do films that my friends produced, ki yeh ho jaayega, kar lenge. And then I realised that it was mediocre work. And that also I did because there was nothing better that was coming my way. I gave those films my best, or whatever I could put in, some emotion... and they also did very well.
Then I tried something different in Tere Naam. Tere Naam se... these films were different kinds of films; same genre but emotions, drama, romance, comedy, but the backdrop was different. It is more something, more someone, more love, larger than life, maybe love for the country, maybe a Tiger, or Radhe for love, or Bajrangi Bhaijaan for this little girl... I've been fortunate that so far I've been able to do all of that.
As soon as I hear the script, the narration of a film, if I doze off or I feel sleepy or say that 'theek hai, ek aur baar sunenge', that means I will never do that film. I have to really, intensely like the subject in the first narration. I hear the plot first, then if the plot is interesting, I hear the whole subject, and after that, the suggestions come in and we work on it.
Sometimes also there's a lot of improvisation in it, then the plot is discussed in the living room or in the hotel room; the entry, exit, dialogues, the new things coming up. So that also, so far it's been working. So far, by the grace of God, it's been all correct. But you never know which kind of film the audience will lap up.
Nobody wants to make a flop film. They all want to make a Mughal-E-Azam. They all want to be better than the last film, better than the success and appreciation of the last film. I always want to make the best film ever.
Whenever we promote a film, everyone talks really good things about the film because they genuinely like the movie. It's not like picture kar li, aur iske baare mein jhoot bol de aake. Aisa nahi hota hai kabhi. They have been to the films and liked it, that's why they come out and talk good things about the film and are excited about the film's release.
After the Lok Sabha results, you tweeted Swachch Bharat, Fit Bharat. Was it also meant to say that your film is a clean, fit-for-family film?
No no... I am promoting the film Bharat any which way. The film is shot in Bharat mostly. I also make sure that wherever I go, I promote that state. Like I was in Madhya Pradesh, I promoted Madhya Pradesh. Earlier I went to Arunachal Pradesh, I went to Kashmir.
Wherever I go, without being the brand ambassador of any place, I go and promote that place because our country is really beautiful and I feel tourism should happen in our country.
So we went to Switzerland because Kashmir mein tab problem chal raha tha. But then we shot Bajrangi in Kashmir, and back-to-back two films we shot there. I love going to Kashmir to shoot.
A lot of films you do, you can shoot them just like that. But for a film like Bharat, where there is a historical narrative, do you study these references? Or do you leave it to the director and surrender yourself to him?
Yes, I mean I know mota-mota about the film. Once the information is given [to me], then I check it. Is mein yeh hai ki World Cup ka reference hai, and that whole Abu Dhabi ke andar jab tel nikla tha and how people went there. And woh Merchant Navy ka ek daur aaya tha jab sab Merchant Navy join kar rahe thay. The Jai Jawan Jai Kisan part, then Railway mein naukri hai... a lot of these things are there. And then of course, there is the backdrop, this larger-than-life picture.
The songs in your films are usually a mix of Hindi and English, written for you, to match your persona and the story. Are you also involved in the creation of the music in your films?
In my own films, yes, I am a huge part of the music. I take the final call on the music. Yeh gaana achha nahi laga, yeh gaana theek hai, change karo... Ali [Abbas Zafar, the director of Bharat] himself also has an ear for good music and Vishal-Shekhar are very good musicians. So five or six songs that we have, they all have to be good.
Woh time chala gaya hai ki gaana ko hammer karte karte karte karte woh gaana ek cringe value ke andar chala jaata tha. But now, the gaana is the first thing about any movie. There is a lot of pressure on the music directors, there is a lot of pressure on the director, to select the right song.
Har ek ka taste alag alag hai. Music hi kuch different chal raha hai. Mai kuch alag hi music karta hoon. That's also doing well. People say it's Salman Khan, that's why it's good. But that's not what it is. If it sounds good, feels good, people listen to it and we think yeh chalega, and zyadatar yeh jo gaane hai, woh jab koi do-teen saal ka bachcha woh gaana gaana shuru karta hai, woh barometer hai ki yeh gaana hit hai. I am not looking at the music pandits to give their opinions on the song. The opinion for me is, I think, of that kid.
I am not making films for [other] actors or I am not making films ki other directors are impressed or [for] the critics. I am making films so that my fans go to the theatre and have a great time. Thoda kuch seekhne ko mila, thoda dance kare, thoda sa roye, aur thoda sa us character ka 10-15 per cent ghar pe leke jaaye and usko implement kare.
Your films are fit for everyone to watch. They will never have an awkward moment in a Salman Khan film.
I myself am very awkward in those moments. You can never say never, but so far... I have never done it.
Katrina recently said that she can't be in every Salman Khan film. Are you involved in choosing the actress opposite you in your productions?
No... not really. Woh... if the director suggests that let's get Katrina, then Katrina. For example, I've done Dabangg. There was this thought that Dabangg 2 ke andar, we will take Chulbul Pandey's character and go ahead. But I said that it is the whole family's journey. There's Sona [Sonakshi Sinha], there's Mahesh [Manjrekar], the cop gang... The villains keep on changing but I think we should stick by this that if it's Sona, whenever there is a Dabangg, we will have Sona there. Now, Kick will come. In Kick, Jackie [Jacqueline Fernandez] will be there. The Tiger series will always have Katrina. It's the continuation of that one film, those characters. We can't keep on changing the heroines.
We know a lot of good things about you. What is the one thing that you think is bad about you?
Lots of bad things... Really bad things. But I can't share them. Those bad things I will take with me to the grave!

Gulab Jamun
Tumblr media
Gulab Jamun is a popular dessert in the Indian subcontinent and our personalities are just as sweet and lovable as the dessert.
Tumblr media
In conjunction with the Festival of Lights, Kekabumi presents: Gulab Jamun, a photo journal of 4 very different gulabos*, each with their own unique twist and flavour as we explore their take on being a Malaysian Indian.

GULABO #1: ANJALI NIJJAR VENUGOPAL, 22 Artist, Actor, Poet, Freelance Publicist
Tumblr media
“Is your name inspired from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai?” I threw the first question to break the ice.
“No,” she replied with a sweet smile. “I was born before that!”
Anjali, despite being young is a quadruple-threat. She’s an artist, actor, poet and a freelance publicist. Her artwork have been exhibited in Tokyo and she is as passionate as one can be. She also recently competed in SHORT+SWEET staged at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) if she’s not performing at poetry gigs like ‘If Walls Could Talk’.
Tumblr media
“I’ve always liked the stage,” she admits.
Born and bred in Sabah, Anjali pursued her tertiary education in Film & TV. Her favourite film is Scott Pilgrim vs The World and she described her style as a fine line between pastel goth and sporty.
As a theater actor, Anjali said that she has to open up and be vulnerable when she is on stage in order to put on a good show. The intense training she had during Theatre for Young People (T4YP) had allow her to do just that.
“I’ve become much, much, braver.” she added.
A lot of people would never guess that she’s actually a Sikh because to her, there is not enough Sikh representation in Malaysia even though there are a few Gurdwaras in KL itself.
Tumblr media
“It’s also unfortunate that the Vaisakhi (a major religious celebration in Sikhism) is not given Public Holiday here. Sometimes I had to choose between classes or work and going to temple. I wish that wasn’t the case.”
Anjali, whose dream home would be a studio apartment where she can turn into a creative space wasn’t afraid to speak up about the struggles she had growing too.
Tumblr media
“I used to not like my name because people was making fun of it when I was a kid. They made me feel like I’m horrible and ugly for being Indian.”
“It was not until I see the representation (of POC) in the western media that I thought to myself wow, I could actually look good in that (outfit).”
Anjali’s play “TIGA” will be staged at Five Arts Centre from 23rd – 26th November. Make sure you don’t miss it!

GULABO #2: AZAAD, 25 Videographer
Tumblr media
Azaad was 30 minutes late to our shoot but his personality is so bright we couldn't be upset about it. Our conversation started when we went to 7Eleven together to get some drinks and snacks. He told me that one day, he wants to prank the 7E guy too. Throughout our 15-minute walk, we talked about a lot of random things - from car drifting, to parkour, to suicide.
"Every day I wake up to be a better person than I was yesterday," he told me. "That's what keeps me going.”
Tumblr media
Born in an Indian-Muslim family from Penang, the Media Technology graduate from SAE International emphasized on the importance of family by saying that there will never be a place like home.
“Growing up, my friends are 60% Chinese, 30% Indians and only 10% Malays but I have never experienced racial clashing. I see it happening around, but never to me.”
When asked about his thoughts on the minority in Malaysia – Indians especially, Azaad said that he wish the Indians realised how important they are as the people here in Malaysia and that they should never feel sideline. Azaad speaks fervently of his dissatisfaction with the IT and Medicine stereotype often imposed onto Indian individuals as he hope to see more Indians in the creative line of work.
Tumblr media
While digging deeper into his own heritage, Azaad also enlightened us about what it means to be an Indian Muslim in Malaysia.
“I think the Indian culture is amazing. The heritage is really something to be proud of and celebrated. And the colours are just so beautiful” said Azaad. “However, one of two things people often ask when they find out that I’m Indian-Muslim is either: Which one of your parents is malay? Or are you a convert?”
As Azaad explains about the Indian Muslim community within Malaysia, we learnt that it is a small minority that often get mixed up with Mamaks, who are individuals of mixed Indian-Malay heritage. Azaad laments on the interchangeability of the Malay and Muslim identity, which gives way to a form of ignorance towards others that don’t fall under the same label.
Tumblr media
Azaad notices that Indian Muslims are at risk of losing their unique culture due to the pressure of trying to fit into modern Malaysian society, but they may also be at risk of losing a part of their identity as well if they do not. As Azaad mentions, “If you can’t beat the rest, join the rest but of course there are those who still stay true to their roots.”
The enthusiastic 25 year-old who loves his current job told me that if not a videographer, he’d probably be in aviation as a fighter pilot or a professional motor sport driver if he ever runs out of creative juice. Well, I guess we have to wait and see what’s in store for this Penangite creative.

GULABO #3: VARSHA, 20 Musician, lawyer-to-be
Tumblr media
When I first arrived at the studio, I noticed a girl with sharp face feature doing her make-up and I thought “Woah, she’s beautiful.” It took me awhile to approach her because not only she was doing her make-up, she also has this stern look that made me feel a little scared. But as the hour pass by and everyone was all warmed up, Varsha turned out to be a very pleasant person to have conversations with. And quite chatty too!
So when I had her to tell me a bit about herself, it was very surprising to know that this 20 year-old is currently pursuing her degree in law despite having a pure-science A-level qualification. So why the drastic change?
Tumblr media
“Well, I’ve been learning science since I was 16 and the thought of having to spend the rest in my life in the lab is just not something I am quite comfortable with. I mean, I really, really, love Biology and all but maybe not as a professional.” she told me as we were hanging out at the balcony.
Three fun facts about Varsha that I learnt:
When she was 10, she had a skateboarding phase but never really got into it because she was just stoked to have Spiderman design on her skateboard instead of the actual thing.
When she was 13, her guilty pleasure show to watch is Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK)
She was obsessed with High School Musical (HSM) so much that she had posters all over her room that she has not yet taken down.
Tumblr media
Varsha who views John Mayer as one of her sources of inspiration recently released two songs on her Spotify – ‘Real’ and ‘Fool for You’. But her achievements to this date definitely didn’t come easy.
“I feel like no matter how good I am, I will always have to push a bit extra in everything I do. For example, I did great in my SPM but not great enough to land me a scholarship because of the race quota. I totally understand that the majority should have more seats but yeah.” she explained.
Tumblr media
To Varsha, Malaysia is a country where you have to conform to the majority. You are forced to follow the flow but if you are a salmon who swims upstream, that wouldn’t be too easy.
“Honestly, I don’t think coerce is good for you spiritually or mentally. I wish people can just be their own person regardless their preferences,” Varsha added. Well, we agree with you on that, girl.

GULABO #4: KEITH NOEL RAJ, 22 Musician
Tumblr media
“Passionate. Rational. Naïve.”
Those were the words that came out of Keith’s when I asked him to describe himself in three words. Started playing music since he was 13, he told me he never learned how to read notes despite being able to play instruments well.
Throughout the photoshoot, Keith wasn’t the loudest person in the room but he exuberates this calm aura that made it easy to approach him. Young and talented, Keith believes that if you put in a lot of effort, time and details in what you do, you will be great at it.
Speaking of great, he will be releasing his EP really soon and we wish him nothing but the best!
Tumblr media
“So what do you think about the Indians in Malaysia?” curious, I asked. “I do think that our representation in this country is a concern especially with all the stereotypes that people have on Indians.”
“But a way to rise above that than getting proper education. Those who are financially stable are lucky, but what about those who are not? They need to get out of the cycle and see the world.”
Tumblr media
To Keith, the inability to see life in a bigger picture will restrict your reality. Which is why if he had to write a letter to his future self he would ask if the older Keith is okay and hope he is not having a stagnant life at that point of his life.
“Hopefully you don’t have a wife and kids too!” he added.
Tumblr media
This young musician who would like to visit Japan one day told us that there’s just something about the way Japanese do things that he loves. Contrary to the Western world, Japanese people don’t have problem with routine and he think it’s very interesting how they live life there.

We hope you enjoy this feature as much as we do. We had a really good time working with the personalities and super glad that we get to share their stories with all of you!
Love, Kekabumi.

Hold On To That Feeling
Daydreaming and feeling overwhelming surges of inspiration is normal for me when I’m separated from the means to write (in other words, my laptop) for any extended period of time. I admit that very few times in my life have been so hugely joyous that a certain urgency to capture it in words lasts past the event. Some people have the gift of being motivational rather than nagging and I fully believe that it is the seven-hour car ride next to Sam and my number one baby that I owe this determination to not procrastinate anymore to.
The happiest and saddest experiences are either the easiest or hardest to put into words. In my grief for Max in 2015, I tried desperately to put into words the sudden sense of mortality I felt, being able to remember him as a little pup as if it were yesterday. But unlike my externally forced graduation speech back in 2010, which told as neutrally as possible of my hellish high school years, I couldn’t find the words for my sweet boy. The ever-expanding graveyard is since that summer where I find my ultimate peace and maybe that’s all I can ever say about it.
Maybe because I’ve admired and looked up to One Tree Hill actress and my idol Shantel Vansanten for so many years now, but I finally understand why she says “I look for inspiration in everything around me.” There was a time when I used to wait for that surge of urgency to write, but now many writing courses and pep talks later I’ve realized that it takes as much determination and focus as it does genuine inspiration to be productive. Every time I have heart-to-heart talks with Sam, I come away feeling more talented and capable for it so I owe it to her and myself to capture all the moments that it brings me joy to think about.
After the family vacation through Bruges in Belgium, the French war memorials and last but far from least Watford’s Warner Bros Studios three years ago, I always regretted not pushing through the procrastination to write about how much lasting joy I gained from October 10 2014. Naturally, it was my psychologist who helped me make use of that day of bliss at every turn, by using the happiness of the memory to put me back in a good headspace during stressful and less joyous times. Because I’ve figured out the key to making memories long-lasting for me personally, it is and always has been music. The more Indian weddings I attend the more certain I am that any Indian function my possible future wedding may have will be a sangeet only. I have a carefully chosen anti-anxiety playlist of positive musical associations and have to give even my least favourite One Tree Hill character, Peyton Sawyer, credit for one truth:
Tumblr media
But I digress, being a huge fan of John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars after the film adaptation released in summer 2014, come the sightseeing in Belgium that October it was the soundtrack’s peppy track Boom Clap I tuned into as we walked the quaint streets of Bruge. The film’s love story took place in Amsterdam before terminal cancer turned it tragic and hearing that song on a tourist boat ride in Belgium felt close enough to the movie magic to be a joy to recall.
Tumblr media
Seeing the war memorials on the next part of the trip it was my Dad’s excitement and the sheer scale of historical melancholy that made it unforgettable, being there to witness the 100th anniversary of WW1 was obviously an immense and sobering experience. But all that took place before one of the happiest days of my life, the one I’m sure I would think back on if J.K Rowling’s Patronus Charm existed in real life. In a way, I understand how she made the joy-sucking Dementors a metaphor for her own depression because that single day has had the strength to carry me through hard times ever since.
Harry Potter was what turned me into what I define myself as today: a fangirl. The fascinating Marauder era still holds a very special place in a heart no longer seventeen but probably happier than nearly a decade ago. It makes me feel old to think that the first Potter film adaptation came out sixteen years ago, 2001 was incidentally the same year to give the world Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, which initiated my ten-year obsession with SRK.
Tumblr media
Coming back to the Watford experience, I can safely say it was life-changing: Between Tom Felton’s humorous tour guide recorded narration, the animatronic Buckbeak that actually bowed and blinked and my first taste of Butterbeer, I was floored long before the most exhilarating and then emotional parts of the day. The simulated broom ride which thanks to the souvenir videos and photograph reminds me more than anything else how happy that day was, is still something I just have to watch to feel intense surrealism to this day. But my favourite photograph that day is of me posing behind the Privet Drive sign. It’s hilarious to think that on the set the awful Dursley’s home exterior is right next to the ruin of Lily and James Potter’s house.
Tumblr media
Already soaring on a wave of bliss that had begun with the HP film scores blasting all the way to the parking lot, standing in front of that scorched wall is where I got really emotional because somehow the couple who are dead before the series even begins have always meant the most to me. Yes walking through Diagon Alley’s set with the incredible detail on all sides I genuinely felt like Harry in wishing I had about a hundred eyes at once. But somehow it was still that ruined Potter cottage that I remember responding to now; the fictional sacrifice for their baby’s life as stirring and inspiring as anything else that trip.
When I was sixteen I once had a crush on a boy just because he resembled the fifteen-year-old James Potter from the Order Of The Phoenix film adaptation, incidentally my last non-celebrity / fictional crush to date.
Tumblr media
Needless to say, that went nowhere and Harry Potter has stayed an important happy place for me longer than anyone in school ever did. There might still be times when the high school years negatively affect how I feel about myself but those days are few and far between.
Luckily for me, it’s a fact that time heals all wounds and someday only those powerful happy memories will remain. As Albus Dumbledore wisely said after all...
Tumblr media
Even as a writer, with a craft as creative and yet honed by habit as many others, the end result of a piece like this isn’t always in sight from the beginning. There’s always the fine line of discussing a work in progress with my cheerleading family and figuring out on my own what feels right. I’ve had all sorts of advice; to combine experiences or don’t, or to be honest and heartfelt but draw the line somewhere. But at the end of the day, I know that the only way to get the words out is to find my own flow and go with it. All the song lyrics and Disney mottos about following your heart have got to come from a place of some kind of experience I suppose, so that’s what I decide to do with every word.
Tumblr media
The theme of this article is holding on to joy and describing some hugely happy moments in my recent past would not be complete without the last week’s trip to Kottayam in Kerala. Some say this past week, with a royal Indian wedding and such a fabulous vacation with old friends deserves its own article and maybe someday it will get it. After all it took three years to pay tribute to the Potter joy as this article does.
But stand-alone tribute or not, the vacation after the Scindia wedding deserves a very heartfelt mention for inspiring me to write again in the first place with the love from old friends and simply breath-taking experiences. In a way, it does tie into the whole filmy Potter experience because Chacko Uncle shared his jaw-dropping world so modestly with us. How often does the average person get to sneak onto an active TV set and witness a girl prance onto the stage to an iconic SRK song?
Tumblr media
For almost a decade my love of Bollywood became a way to connect with my roots from abroad and now it is always being in India that finds some way or other to remind me how much I will always admire King Khan. Granted there’s a huge nostalgia factor now but that song choice and moment in a little corner of that studio, trying to sneak a peek without tripping over the wires or squealing out loud was something I won’t forget in a hurry.
Over the next two days, the thrills just kept on coming, whether it was the epic serenades of our very own crooner Charles (the man stole my heart with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and kept it awed with a freaking Swiss German number) or getting to feel like a film star speeding along the backwaters, it was definitely like the Warner Studios tour in that I wanted to drink in all the sights and hold on to how I felt in the moment.
I’m not normally particularly keen on selfies, but with the enforced dressing up for the wedding before the Kottayam vacation, maybe the habit of sharing spilled over to that part of the holiday. Cruising along the backwaters I felt able to define wind-swept hair quite literally and even the slight motion sickness became easy to ignore with the sun kissing my exposed skin and finally getting to put my prescription sunglasses to good use. The picturesque backdrops helped me to feel beautiful and for that, I am more thankful than anything. Here’s hoping ten years don’t go by until the next reunion, visits to the south are as much a fascinating window into Mom and Dad’s past as anything else.
Tumblr media
As my former obsession show used to say “by its very definition, glee is about opening yourself up to joy” and with experiences like these under my belt I might yet learn to do just that more often.
Tumblr media
Despite the way it crashed and burned, Glee did teach me to never stop believing and I like to think I’m one step closer to that faith with the power of all these good experiences to guide me. One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn made the idea of “someday” a trademark of many couples he wrote and I think my someday of just feeling good might be a lot closer these days. To end on one final OTH quote because it has words for everything
Tumblr media
I’ve come to realize that I don’t have to dismiss the bad things in my past in order to find happiness, but I feel like my perspective on the years of teenage suffering has changed and that, for now, is good enough.

The TV constantly flashed the breaking news of the day. Yet another take over, yet another victory. Mr. Bajaj sat in his study, coldly smiling, as he once again lied to himself, of true happiness. This was it. Or was it not? Deep down, he knew it all. ... Prerna sat at the porch, located in one of the remote areas of the Mansion. It was her secret hideout of sorts. The silence here allowed her to listen to voices of her heart, detaching her from the war and chaos of everyday life.  Tears rolled down her light shaded eyes. It was raining outside but it was her self and consciousness that was turning stormy. These were the evenings that reminded her of him the most. Rain had been close to both of them and it were these moments that she couldn't help but think of him.  She pressed her eyelids to let the lone tear make it's way down her neck. She wished she could reminisce the good moments spent but the fact would remain, he hated her. Anurag Basu hated Prerna Sharma Bajaj from the bottom of his heart. It felt terrible to feel hated by the person you had loved the most, in life. She always managed to keep a strong facade but today was one of her weak, vulnerable days. All she wanted right now was to hug him tight. Forget everything that had transpired. Feel wanted and loved by someone who cared for her. She was tired of this burden everyday. Tired of feeling lonely, all by herself in this cruel, cruel world. She heard a slight cough and felt someone right behind her. She quickly pressed her eyes with the dupatta and got up. "Mr. Bajaj?", she was quite surprised to find him there. He never came around, looking for her like this. It was always a butler, asking her to see him in his study, if there was anything he wanted from her. She looked down, awkwardly, she never liked people witnessing her weak sides. "It's almost 7.30 pm, you haven't ordered the dinner to be laid yet", he said without any emotion. "Sneha doesn't like it late", he said, stressing on the last word. "And I hope you'll serve my favourite wine too". He loved it when she served him wine after his acquisition of a company. He turned around to leave when she said - "Congratulations Mr. Bajaj. Aaj ek baar phir aapne kisi aur ko barbaad kar diya", bitterness and hatred of the situation reflecting strongly in her words. "Khush toh bohot honge aap. Naa jaane kitne aur Guptas, Ahulwalias, Sharmas aur Basus ko barbaad karenge", today she somehow couldn't put it within herself. "Meri zindagi barbaad karke chain nahi mila aapko? Kyun main? Why me? Don't I deserve happiness?", she shouted.  "Pata nahi aap kaise khudko roz mirror mein face karte ho, if I were you, I wouldn't be able to face myself in the mirror even a single morning! Jo log aise, aise business karte hain, unhe kabhi khushi nahi milti, mil hi nahi sakti", she said sobbing and overwhelmed. She had never got personal with his life. She never, ever expressed her opinion on whatever he did but today, she wanted to lash it out. They always had treated each other with immense ignorance, or in better words, respect. He never came close to her. Never visited her room, even after 3 months of the contract. Even during business parties, he kept respectable distance, never made her feel a bit uncomfortable. He had surrendered his entire household to her, without questioning her capabilities. And she in turn, never meddled in his affairs. But today, was different. They never have had such a talk or an accusation session till date. ... Usually he was unaffected by people judging him or passing comments but today he felt disturbed. Almost as if he couldn't stand her weeping like that, in front of him, because of him. It felt bad. It felt weird. He had never felt this before. He grabbed her hand and lead her outside, in the garden. Rain drops fell over them as they stood, getting wet. Her emotions started disappearing in this sudden shock, as she cooled down. As the water drops touched her head, she felt lighter by the minute. "Dekho apne aas paas, just have a look around you. Tum Kolkata ke sabse bade Mansion mein, Kolkata ke sabse bade businessman ke saamne khadi ho, uski wife bankar. You seriously feel ki tumhaari life barbaad ho gayi hai?", he asked her, smirking. He couldn't stand his own prestige going down the drain like that. He was, Mr. Rishabh Bajaj after all! "Tum kuch bhi kar sakti ho, kuch bhi. You can complete your studies. Get a great job. Do research work. Open your own company!" "And please don't tell me, that meri research tumhaari apni life ki understanding se better hai. Yes, you didn't deserve your past, but you certainly deserve this". She was left speechless. His two lines, kind of changed her perspective. Made her feel unbelievably better. Yes, better. Was he trying her say her life was full of opportunities now? But at what cost? "Kya aap jaante hain saccha pyaar kya hota hai?", she asked innocently. "I wish I wouldn't ever know about it", he said, coldly smiling to himself, leaving her there, to ponder. Morning.Flower

EXCLUSIVE! Suniel Shetty: If the businessmen aren’t take care of, they won’t be able to take care of people - Times of India
New Post has been published on https://apzweb.com/exclusive-suniel-shetty-if-the-businessmen-arent-take-care-of-they-wont-be-able-to-take-care-of-people-times-of-india/
EXCLUSIVE! Suniel Shetty: If the businessmen aren’t take care of, they won’t be able to take care of people - Times of India
As each day passes by, coronavirus cases are increasing in India with an increase in death reports as well. The nation in under lockdown however there is no decline in coronavirus cases. Past few days, we have seen an immense growth in COVID-19 cases. It has come to an extreme level which has led to an extension in lockdown till the end of the month.
With the cases increasing and no work taking place in the country except work from home for many organisations, the economy is at stake currently. A drastic slowdown has been observed in the economy which is alarming for the nation. Showing his concern on the same, Suniel Shetty exclusively spoke to ETimes and shared his opinions on the ongoing issue.
Suniel Shetty said, “The economy getting affected is the only sad part, the world is offering subsidies and solutions to the economical issues. I understand completely that it is our job to support the underprivileged, it’s our job to support the daily wages, we will do it and we will continue to do it but who will support a businessman? Brokers are bleeding everybody is bleeding ,whether it is stacks or banking, I think banking will have to be looked in the biggest way because loans, repayments, interests is something that needs to be looked into, some reforms have to come about. You’re talking about three trillion dollars being presented by the US, something needs to be done that’s something that I think will give a shot to not only people who want to help other people but also to the share market and everything in general. I think that’s the only sad part and that’s something that we’re missing. Even in our own industry, fifty percent of the films that are already on floor will bleed because of the interest, koi interest maaf nahi karta, delay picture ki iska matlab kam picturein release hongi, kam picturein release hongi matlab baaki k picture dabbe me rahenge, baaki k picture dabbe me rahenge yani huge loss, sirf bade bikenge chote bikenge nahi. So every industry needs a solution and I think that is what we are looking for from the honorable Finance Minister and these parties ruling the centre and the state. Because this will break the backbone of the entire economy thereby pushing recovery of the common man way behind. If the industrialists, businessmen, middle class businessmen, restaurateurs, theatre owners, movie makers all the businesses are not taken care of, they will not be able to take care of the people.
youtube
We also asked the actor about his film projects which has been put on hold following the lockdown in India. Responding to the same, Suniel said, “Absolutely, and that is why the projects which haven’t started, the projects that I am on or going to be leading you know 26th March was release of Priya’s film ‘Marakkar’ they spent all the money on the publicity and have to now go in again. It is a huge film. And there are huge films in different languages coming up now how many of them are going to come together? Where do the people have the money to go to movies after this? Sab kuch toh ration me khatam ho raha hai, sab kuch toh dawaaiyon mein jaa raha hai toh kya hoga? I think the economy part of it is also to be addressed and addressed very soon. You see Canada, UK, America – the relief has already been given to the businessmen and young entrepreneurs and they are all looking to help the community, here everybody is shit scared of what is going to happen? When am I going to get my money? When am I going to pay my EMIs? What am I going to do? And if that comes about it will not transfer to the people who actually need it. So that’s a big question mark and that’s the only downward that I feel soon the honorable Finance Minister should come up with reforms. Delaying income tax filing return is not going to help. How we are going to help the businesses that are shut? You asked us to shut completely and people have shut, industries are shut, shootings are shut, airing of television has stopped so there has to be something that has to be decided on behalf of the centre as well as the states. What are the reforms that you are offering? Nothing! A lot of people might be scared to talk about it but I think you need to talk about this because fear will only harm us and if we don’t talk about this the whole community is going to suffer and when the community suffers I am very sure people down the line will also suffer because people are only thinking about their problems. I understand everybody says, society k liye yeh karenge who karenge, lekin jab admi khud mara hota hai toh bohot mushkil hota hai and anyways businesses have been in slack in the last year or two. Corruption has been eradicated which is fantastic but reforms are very important.
While Suniel spoke about business suffering loss and films going kaput, we asked the actor about his upcoming projects and asked him about ‘Hera Pheri 3’ which he had confirmed to zoom channel recently. The actor said, “Right now we are all lost and know nothing that is going to happen. Apart from my film ‘Marakkar’ that is ready for release and ‘Fraudster’ which is an English and Telugu film that I am doing is close to completion, ‘Mumbai Saga’ is close completion but God knows when it will release, getting the right date with hundreds of films together with all big films not knowing whose dates have been shifted. So the new films are going to start, I was to start something in April, May, June, it was a huge team from the US that was going to come here for the action and stuff and now nobody knows. That film depends a lot on this action team. So no clue, don’t want to pressurize anybody we all are going through the same problem. We are one right now, so let’s stay calm, let’s not believe anything is going to wrong and everything is going to be right. As long as we are healthy and living and breathing, I think everything will fall into place because all the other problems are problems that carry all except this.”
While Suniel has expressed his concerns regarding the economy slowdown and its impact on businesses and entertainment industry, we are in hopes that the government will find a solution to these economical problems once the lockdown is over!

Rani Mukerji: I realised a lot of people wanted to see me
Tumblr media
Rani Mukerji: I realised a lot of people wanted to see me - After a four-year break from films, Rani Mukerji returned to the big screen with Hichki in March this year. She portrayed a woman whose passion is teaching but suffers from Tourette Syndrome. The project was also her comeback to showbiz post the birth of her daughter, Adira. The tale of the teacher’s bond with a bunch of lesser-privileged students struck a chord with the audience, not just in India but also in China. Rani will soon be seen on the big screen again as Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2. We met the actress recently to talk about the year that was and her choice of roles. Excerpts from the chat... The projects you have picked — Mardaani and Hichki — are message-oriented. Is that the way ahead for you? Both the films spoke about powerful women in different walks of life. Mardaani is a female police officer tackling flesh trade and child trafficking, which are extremely important and grave issues in our country as well as the world. I remember many parents telling me that they didn’t want to watch the film as they’d feel uncomfortable, or that they didn’t want their children to watch it. I told them that, on the contrary, the movie was for them and their children. It helps society become aware that this is not happening in a faraway land, but right in our neighbourhood. We can’t view the world with rose-tinted glasses. I wanted to be a part of such a story, that too, told from the point of view of a female police officer. Hichki was about a teacher with Tourette, who is asked to tutor a bunch of underprivileged children. In a strange way, both of them are in the same boat. Together, they learn that you can turn your weakness into strength. What was it about these characters that impressed you? They are based on subjects that are relevant —child trafficking and issues with the education system. They also pointed to the fact that people judge you for your outer appearance instead of your merit. When you see a woman in a cop’s uniform, you may wonder whether she will be able to protect you. But that shouldn’t be the case because an officer is that, irrespective of the gender. Similarly, a teacher’s Tourette Syndrome doesn’t mean she won’t be good at her job. There were so many layers to these characters. I think, when people look back at these films, they will realise how important they were. When a movie releases in the midst of what you are living in, you may not realise its importance at that point in time but you will, five years down the line. It will impact change in the society and the thought process. It takes time for an actual change to come about in a society, but these films will help kick-start that process. What has been your biggest takeaway from the success of your film this year? I have always believed that content is king. Whenever a story tugs at your heartstrings and has an emotional connect, it will find an audience. Now, how big a viewership it will get is when you need to look at the box office. Even if it’s a moderate hit, you know that it has been liked. For me, the learning has been to always listen to your gut and instinct because when I signed both these movies, I didn’t expect them to become the hits that they did. But I believed in the stories. I knew that I wanted these stories to be told because these subjects were relevant. It was about believing in myself and the stories. I also realised that if there is a producer willing to make a film like this, then as an actor, I have to back it too. Whether or not it does well, the intention is right. And when the film succeeds, that’s a bonus because what you had set out to achieve, you have managed to meet it. Go on... With Hichki, there were many more question marks because I was married, a mother. So, would the audience want to see me? That myth was broken and I realised a lot of people wanted to see me (smiles), so that was great. I can be part of the cinema and the stories I want to tell. At the same time, I love entertaining films, so whenever I do a film with a message, it is necessary to make them entertaining as well. Nobody wants to hear a lecture that’s boring. I want to be part of films that can strike a balance between both these aspects. When I know that there’s an audience who wants to see me, I can dabble in various genres. It gives me happiness to know that the viewer doesn’t shut you out because you are married or have kids. They do that when you don’t make good films, it’s as simple as that. How do you analyse the success of Hichki in China? I think there are some similarities between our cultures, backgrounds and family values. Perhaps, Hichki worked so well over there because they related to the teacher-student relationship. It’s the victory of the script and content. The Chinese government really loved the movie and agreed to release it there. I remember being in a room full of Chinese audience watching a Hindi movie, clapping and crying. That was a surreal feeling. Then to meet professors from the university and for them to say they wanted to be like Naina... it was something else. Even when we had a screening in Mumbai for 300 teachers across Maharashtra, they and the principals got emotional. Many of them said Naina has become an inspiration to them. And I got to hear the same thing in China. That was amazing. Do you think there are more author-backed roles for actresses now? I can’t really say that because I never faced that problem. In fact, I’ve always got meaty roles, right from Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat to Yuva or Black and Bunty Aur Babli. They were equal to the men or even more, but never less. As an actor, it’s our responsibility to choose the right characters. It doesn’t matter if it’s like the one I did in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Tina’s part) but it has to be impactful. Length of a role is never the issue, the substance is what matters. Actors shouldn’t confuse a bigger role with an important one. You could have a small part in the film, but it should leave an impact rather than being in the entire film and not making one. I have always wanted to do films that talk about the modern Indian woman. My roles have always depicted her. So, there’s always a direct connect. What’s your resolution, work-wise and personally, for 2019? I don’t really make any resolutions. Every new project that I sign becomes my resolution. I know that for this project, I need to achieve a set of goals. For Hichki, I needed to look like I did pre-motherhood. I wanted to get back in shape so that I would look the part. Now, I need to look like a cop for Mardaani 2, so my entire process will be dictated by that. Also, for me, it’s very important that each day I spend with my daughter is special. So, to maintain a balance between my work and personal life is my resolution every year (laughs). Rani Mukerji: I realised a lot of people wanted to see me Read the full article

payal is the biggest dumbass in this whole plot. firstly for tapping it without wrapping it. secondly for just playing along to anyyyyyyyyone saying anything. daksh ne kaha toh she did this. then anika ne kaha toh she did that. phir se daksh ne kaha toh she did a third thing. and now she’s doing whatever these two are telling her to. honestly woman. for someone with TWO brains inside you right now, you have zero functional critical thinking skillz.
i heavily relate to shivaay’s daant-chabaana at her stupidity.
... yeah it’s really none of y’all business about what she does with that baby, so piss off maybe?
WTF WHY IS SHIVAAY TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SIDECHICK OF HIS SISTER’S FIANCE AND THEIR ILLEGITIMATE CHILD? THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU????????????? IF YOU WANNA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A CHILD, THERE’S ONE IN ANIKA’S HOUSE THAT COULD USE SOME HELP. THAT ONE IS ACTUALLY ONE IT’S APPROPRIATE FOR YOU TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. JESUSSSSSSSSS.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
who beat shivaay up and can i get a piece of that action?
LMAO I SINCERELY HOPE IT WAS GAURI, WHO FUCKING WENT TO TOWN ON HIS ASS AND STRAIGHT UP ROUNDHOUSE KICKED HIM IN THE FUCKING FACE.
and good on omRu for fucking schooling him on his bs maafi maang-ing methods.
i’ll need at least 3 continuous weeks of billu’s sachche dil waali koshish before i’ll even consider thinking about maafi.

Bollywood rebel Kajol: aEUR~ IA never held a damn what anyone to say something about me. IA stillA donaEUR( tm) taEUR( tm)
The Indian film star has been criticized by her unconventional appears, her unexpected busines alternatives and for demanding better roles. She discusses her 22 -year on-screen woo with Shah Rukh Khan and why she refuses to give advice to young actors
Kajols isnt a quiet presence. She talks rapidly, titters loudly, and is uncharacteristically goofy for Bollywood royalty, shedding her mitts about so much better in a meagre London hotel suite that her jewellery wings across the room. The actor, 41, embarked her occupation 23 years ago and views the record for winning better actress( six experiences, tied with her late aunt Nutan) at the Indian Filmfare awards. She has long been considered one of the countrys most unconventional stellars for allegedly not conforming to the industrys narrow allure ideals, for twice taking long break-dances at the top of her job, and for castigating heads for not shedding her in parts written for male leads. She is back to acting, after a five-year hiatus( looking after my boys, being a wife, baby, human ), with Dilwale. The movie commemorates a much-hyped reunion with Shah Rukh Khan the couple have represented their most successful cinemas together over the past two decades and are consistently voted Indian cinemas excellent on-screen pair. Their biggest strike, 1995 s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge( DDLJ ), has gone on to be the longest-screened movie in Indian cinema record, still showing in Mumbai theatres today.
Whats it like to be back after such a long shatter? Well, I do stop having breaks as everyone knows. Im quite the violate being. But very great enjoyable. Weve been filming in a marathon, six months non stop, and after that long with a gang you want to touch one another and never investigate those people again. But its worth it. I dont get that same enjoyment doing anything else.
Did you ever worry that taking those flouts and walking away from your huge success as a bankable female lead-in was a career play? Im picky; Ive done very little toil compared to my peers. But I cant work on three cinemas a year. Ive never appeared cozy doing that. Not at the beginning of my career and definitely not after I got married.[ Kajol is married to actor Ajay Devgan. They have a 12 -year-old daughter and a five-year-old son .] I necessary that time out, to look at my boys, go to sleep with them and wake up with them, have breakfast with them. I desire my girls, but I like them , extremely I involve their fellowship to retain me grounded and in every which way.

Your daughter is almost a girl now. What have you learned from her and what does she learn from you? There is huge pres for her, as she puts it, with what education of girls are doing and is able to do at that age but they have a natural bia to lie also. Ive realised that. Their mothers are letting them do all this, and youre not letting me do this yeah, thats a good one. Regrettably for her, Im in touch with those the women and I know their daughters are attracting the same ruse. But somewhere down the line, you have to give them some leeway. They are in a different world I cannot compare what my childhood was like with hers. We were road dumber at their age. We thought we were very smart, but we were very stupid. Fortunately for me, my daughter has always been a strong individual, with very strong likes and disfavours, and she used vocal about them.
The press often say the same of you. [ Laughs ] I know. Damn. And I have to live with myself!
Bollywood has changed dramatically since you first started, dont you think? It has become big. Even small things like vanity vans[ trailers ], we didnt have that 15 years ago. The machinery has taken on a whole new grade. Unexpectedly you have people with specialisms, suddenly everyones more professional and its capable of being make different kinds of cinemas. There is an array of scripts that arent just ideas in people chiefs any more. And its not just about the youngest and best available. Thank God that stage is over.
Do you miss not filling that territory anymore? No, you grow up. After a place, you get sick of running around the trees. Theres simply so much better thoughtlessness you can manage in your busines you have to be at that theatre and in that frame of mind to do it. I often get: Oh my God, why didnt you take that percentage? The character was so good, but if I cant appear a persona, if I cant visualise that, then Im not the right party for it. Its difficult to explain to someone when Im saying no to their script.
For a long time, the industry and its press named you an unconventional leading lady for having a duskier hue, for not plucking your eyebrows, for having shabby whisker, for not being size zero. Did it ever bother you? [ Laughs ] I never generated a damn about what anyone said about me. I still dont. Size zero is in, but I dont understand it. I might be into the fitness activity now, but I never paid attention to it back then. The commentators pounce on me a little less now than they would anyone else, Ive deserved that. Plus, I cant afford to give in to that pres. It would drive me absurd and I would need to be lock the door. Im already mad and possibly require fastening up anyway!

Your biggest reaches Baazigar , DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai , Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham , My Name is Khan have checked you partnered up with Shah Rukh Khan . Audiences cant get enough of you together. Why? Weve known each other for 22 years, we build films together every few years its simple-minded. His power hasnt changed. Its even more evident, hes very passionate about it. He has clear ideas of how things should be, but you get better at foreseeing another persons moves and thoughts. I can nearly predict how a scene with him is going to go and he can do the same for me. We automatically know that about one another. He has learnt me a lot in life.
Hollywoods female actors have consistently campaigned for there has become still more roles for women over 40 , and more diversity on screen . How does Bollywoods record compare? Thank God for the gatherings: the opinions and flavors have changed and it has allowed the industry to move in a new direction. Movies will ever reflect what the audience wants and, as long as they want to see all kinds of movies, all kinds of films will be made. I have no complaints.
Do you get asked for advice by younger female actors? Even if I do, I never dedicate it. Advice is a little too free and easy around the world everyone has to develop their own route. What I did when I was 18 years old is so different to what someone now might do.
Do you contemplate yourself a feminist? I do debate myself a feminist, but I am contrary so I can also be considered the opposite. I believe in the equality of men and women, but I dont object to courtesy. I believe in it; equal opportunities should not aim girls should be ashamed to be feminine. I dont believe men are made to rule “the worlds” in the same method I dont believe dames should be doormats. But the stigma of not wanting to do happens like a boy or being made to feel stupid in traditional gender characters is dumb.
Dilwale is released after cinemas worldwide on 18 December
