i need your opinion. jeff blim tinky or curt mega tinky
Oh this is such a good question!
While I do have aspects that I love about both portrayals my overall favourite is undoubtedly Jeff’s.
In Time Bastard we get to see Tinky be absolutely deranged when it comes to fucking around with Ted, and Jeff manages to protrude that sadistic energy entirely. The laugh alone solidifies that for me. Jeff has such a way with playing unhinged characters (Hidgens in Workin’ boys, Aladdin in Twisted, The father in Trail to Oregon, etc) that I don’t think there is a better Starkid actor to play Tinky.
While Grace, Steph and Pete are acted as being scared in The Summoning honestly wasn’t that scary? For me at least? Idk it was more silly (don’t get me wrong I love The Summoning scene it just didn’t have that scare factor- I mean Curts dancing around in neon yellow). And while I do like Tinky having a more silly goofy side to him I prefer the portrayal of that having a more sadistic streak, as seen in Time Bastard.
I know that in The Summoning the LIBs “hold court in your own tongue and form”, (aka appear as teenagers) makes sense story wise and for a on stage preformance. But I’m a big fan of horror, so even the description Tinky being a:
“A solidarity figure. It wears a baggy, furry body- suit. It’s yellow and matted. Dirty. Stinking. Worst of all is its head. A motionless, demented goat mask. It has glassy, evil eyes, a slack jaw with big crooked teeth, a flopping wet tongue”.
Fuck so hard to me. That shit slaps ok. Tinky being refered to a “The thing”, “This creature”, “The nightmare goat”, in the Time Bastard script? Give me more of that please.
(I know that this isn’t particularly pertaining to Jeff’s portrayal, more of the script writing, but they go hand in hand. The script is only as good as the actors can make it. And Jeff does that description of Tinky so much justice).
All that being said- when it comes to drawing Tinky I prefer to draw him as Curt (plus a few extra things added to put my own spin on the design) due to that being his first human form portrayal. Also because I can’t draw goats.
Despite all this, I need it to be known that “oh boy! A spankoffski! I’m going to have the whole set in my toy box!” has and will continue to rot in my brain for many more months to come.

my headcanons for if cornley put on a production of tgwdlm, for @marvelmaniac715 and any other cornley/hatchetfield folks <3
under a readmore because i have a lot to say sorry
chris plays paul because we know he loves that leading role. paul is supposed to show his love for his friends more and more as the show progresses, but because of everything going wrong, paul ends up becoming more and more angry at everything.
emma is initially played by vanessa (because as i have said before, my favourite goes wrongisms come from people playing characters they are ill suited for, and vanessa playing characters with much more attitude than she has is always funny to me). however, at the end of act 1 somewhere (probably somehow during join us and die), she gets bonked over the head and is knocked unconscious, leaving her unavailable for the second act.
this means that they have to understudy, and who’s the only understudy they have? trevor of course (a la nick lang understudying for lauren lopez). unlike nick lang, trevor doesn’t have a single clue what he’s supposed to be doing, and delivers a monotonous performance.
during the bit near the end where paul and emma almost kiss, trevor forgets to take the blood capsule that he is supposed to spit out. (idk how they do it in the real thing but just go with me on this please). this leaves no reason for paul and emma NOT to kiss. and therefore, they very awkwardly end up actually kissing. for the christrev fans out there <3
just before inevitable starts, vanessa gains consciousness. trevor doesn’t realise. this leaves everyone in confusion as they try to deal with TWO emma’s onstage as they sing.
max plays ted, because once again, cornley playing characters that do not suit them is my favourite thing. ted does not come across as a sleezeball at all, and during the ‘kick my head’ bit, it does not feel like ted is making fun of bill in any way.
however, ted’s enjoyment of show stoppin’ number is not an act at ALL. max is genuinely just having a good time. trevor is very put off by it all. life imitates art and vice versa.
by the time ted finally dies, chris is about ready to strangle max.
bill is played by jonathan, because jonathan canonically has a daughter and i feel like the not my seed angst would feel a bit more real. because as well as making fake cornley productions go wrong, i have to make them a little bit angsty as well. for the soul.
it also means that jonathan/bill is a bit late to all of his scenes (he got stuck behind a door). i feel like there’s many scenes where bill is the first to speak, meaning that the rest of the cast is awkwardly standing there while they wait for jonathan to get in.
sandra does the alice/zoey/greenpeace girl track, as she thinks it will be a good opportunity to show off her abilities in character work. no one comments on the fact that zoey isn’t really a character for her, just kind of how she is in real life.
there’s also a certain awkwardness about jonathan and sandra playing father and daughter that i think is fun.
robert plays hidgens. obviously. the most grandiose part for the most grandiose man. he goes full-out on show stoppin’ number, but then refuses to let hidgens die, wanting to continue his musical number. this causes problems.
annie plays charlotte. the main reason for this is because i want to hear nancy zamit belt join us and die <3 but apart from that i also think it has comedic potential.
the last track left to fill is mr davidson/sam/mcnamara. the only actor left is dennis. i will let you fill in the blanks.
KIDDING i will say more because i cannot shut up about anything. anyway there is a lot of responsibility on dennis because jeff blim has a LOT of singing and a LOT of parts. why dennis was cast in this role is a mystery (in-universe. in real life it’s because i think it would cause so many problems).
he does not come in on time during the title track, which messes the whole thing up for everyone.
he gets confused during what do you want paul, and starts singing it as ‘what do you want chris?’ instead. this brings a lot of confusion to the scene.
sam does not come across as sleazy in his first scene, and instead gets mixed up about which character he is. this makes sandra as zoey’s life very difficult.
during show me your hands, he accidentally starts pointing the gun at sandra and robert as the other cops instead. he also forgets to pretend to be unconscious once he gets knocked over the head, and adds unwanted commentary about the situation (“i think they should go to the hospital, because my brain shouldn’t be blue. even if it’s not my real brain. do you think my real brain is blue too?”)
he forgets what he’s doing in you tied up my heart, meaning annie has to instruct him on what to do throughout. this creates a rather unusual dynamic between charlotte and sam, where charlotte is highly frustrated as she falls for sam’s manipulation, which isn’t very convincing.
chris has to feed him lines during the mcnamara scene. dennis gets confused and throws the watch offstage instead of the phone.
as you may have guessed, america is great again is also a disaster. (“why is america great again? we live in england!”)
also at the very end the entire set falls down. because it’s cornley and they have to end with a bang!!!
anyway if anyone else has any headcanons, feel free to add on. hope you enjoyed <3

Wait r u a starkid fan??? (If not then pls ignore this uwu)
I'm gay and on Tumblr what do you think
No but on a legitimate note I've seen just about every Starkid show (not including the Tin Can Bros stuff because I can't fucking find it on YouTube) except for Ani, and I tried watching that but I'm not into Star Wars so it just fell very flat for me. I got into Starkid because of TGWDLM. I love the Hatchetfield series, Twisted, Trail to Oregon, and Holy Musical Batman. I liked Starship (absolutely loved Dylan's song in that) well enough but the ending was kinda bleh, and I just,, was not a massive fan of Firebringer or MAMD. They're fine enough but I probably wouldn't rewatch them. The Very Potter series was pretty good too but with everything that happened with JK Rowling I kinda distanced myself from it.
I ended up leaving the fandom for a bit because of the whole Robert Manion thing that I'm actually still not sure what exactly happened??? My mental health just could not deal with it at the time. But idk it sounds like stuff got resolved so ?? Idk. I know he got removed from NT2 to 'rebuild trust with the team/cast member in question' but apparently people are saying he's gonna come back for NPMD? If he does come back then I hope it's because everyone - including and especially the person he harassed - has agreed that they feel safe with him. I try to be optimistic in general and he did seem genuinely remorseful about what happened so,,, idk I'm not up to date enough to really have an opinion on all of that. It was a dark time for everyone for sure but I hope things are better.
Also I've been thinking about writing some Hatchetfield stuff and maybe messing with a Last Legacy/Hatchetfield crossover. You can throw some ideas at me if you want.
Anyways when NPMD comes out I will become a fucking monster and I apologize ahead of time.
Rant/Spoilers for Black Friday below because I have a lot of feelings about it:
Okay first and foremost I love Dylan Saunders and I love Kim Whalen but the Tom/Becky relationship was so whatever to me that I just,, didn't care about them tbh. The basic idea of it was sweet but idk!! I think the difference between them and Paul/Emma in TGWDLM (who I love) is that Paul and Emma kinda fell in love throughout the story whereas Tom and Becky kept bringing the plot to a complete grinding halt to do their shit. Take Me Back was just lackluster imo.
I loved Jeff Blim (as I always do lol) He is In A Hurry and him?? As fuckin uh??? Mister John McNamara????? ouGH I LOVE HIM 07. He makes me wanna take a solemn vow to become my best self now. I openly simp for him. He's just a fuckin spectral agent in the Black and White now and I hope he's fucking Wiley's shit up.
Also the way that Joey Richter's voice got all gruff when he said 'a gob of fucking lust'??? orz.
As a neurodivergent younger sibling with a well-meaning-but-sometimes-not-the-best-but-still-trying older sister and an abusive mother, Lex and Hannah hit me right in the chest. Especially because when we were younger my sister always talked about leaving home together. Absolutely loved Ethan but why can Robert Manion never survive the fucking show. Reversed!Ethan killed me and my heart broke for Hannah so bad.
My biggest gripe is that tOM SPENT THE ENTIRE FUCKING SHOW BEING LIKE 'OH I HAVE TO GET THIS DOLL FOR MY SON' AND THEN PAUL AND EMMA SHOW UP AT THE END LIKE 'HEY SHIT IS GOING CRAZY AND WE WERE GONNA RUN TO THE BUNKER BUT TIM REFUSED TO LEAVE YOU' AND INSTEAD OF GOING TO HIS SON (since Tim couldn't be in the group because yeah obviously Hannah needed to be there) (yes Tom would have missed the final number but it would have made way more narrative sense to the fucking character arc he'd been going through) HE STAYS AND GETS NUKED AND TIM DIES IN THAT FUCKING CAR ALL ALONE HAVING NEVER SEEN HIS DAD AGAIN AND I AM FROTHING AT THE FUCKING MOUTH. 'IF I FAIL YOU' GUESS WHAT TOM YOU FUCKING DID

Personal Ranking of Nightmare Time Episodes
Let me preface that I love every single thing that has come from the Hatchetfield series, including every Nightmare Time episode. The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals and Black Friday got me through quarantine, and I have all the Nightmare Time release dates(just Yellow Jacket left) on my calendar. This ranking was so hard to make, and inevitably came down to just personal character preferences. There will be an explanation for each ranking. Spoilers for Nightmare Time season 1, all currently released episodes of season 2, Black Friday, and TGWDLM.
11. Killer Track: This story was solid. I love how we got more context on Miss Holloway’s past. We got to see a bit more of the Black Book, and I especially liked how we get to see the storylines so far, intertwine at the Honey Festival. It really drives home that this whole season takes place in one crazy summer. All the acting was phenomenal, and the music(especially the Needy Beast’s cover of the Nightmare Time theme song) will be streamed the second it releases on Spotify. What put it in last place, was just the fact that I didn’t really find the Killer Track itself, scary. Jeff Blim did great, but I was vibing the entire time. I also don’t like Duke or Miss Holloway as much as the other characters, so until I see them more, I won’t exactly be engrossed in their relationship. Still a solid episode, I’d rate it a 6/10.
10. The Witch In the Web: Once again, solid story. I love how it showed Lex and Hannah’s home life, and it introduced Duke and Miss Holloway. It gave us so much lore on the Lords in Black and Webby, and I will always enjoy lore dumps. It called back to previous Hatchetfield moments, like when they visited the Starlight Theater, or met Uncle Wiley. The dream setup of the story was also very fun to follow along with, and parts reminded of me of stories like ParaNorman. What dragged it down was the horror elements. Stories structured like dreams are just so fascinating to me, that I didn’t find anything scary. The closest I got to a fearful reaction, was either Lex’s transformation into Willabella Muckwab, or when Pamela was strangling Miss Holloway. I’d rate this episode, a 6/10.
9. Abstinence Camp: I was a church kid. I went to vacation bible studies over the summer, Sunday school, Wednesday church, the whole shebang. I am a Baptist Christian. Abstinence Camp was a fun little reminder about those summers spent learning “pure” things. I love Peter Spankoffski, even back when he was just the Hot Chocolate Boy/Obnoxious Teen. The little relationship between Stephanie and Pete was interesting to watch. Grace Chastity was not at all what I expected, and I loved every second. Kim Whalen and Jon Matteson did such a good job as Boy Jerry and Girl Jeri. The gore was on point, especially the description of what happened to Gabe. The humor was awesome. Corey Doris and Bryce Charles sang the Axe Man song beautifully, and I still find myself humming Virginity Rocks. With that being said, I am an asexual, who gets pretty uncomfortable at mentions of sexual things, but that didn’t really affect my enjoyment, until the Dirty Girl scene. But aside from that, it’s a really fun experience. I give it a 7/10. Jon Matteson playing an insane character is always enjoyable.
8. Perky’s Buds: I don’t get why a lot of people dislike this one. Aside from the vomiting scene, it was a fun story about Emma’s pot farm dreams, and elaborated on a character mentioned in Watcher World, Ziggy. It gave us lore on the Hatchetmen, and the Witchwood in general. Joey’s performance of Ezekiel was phenomenal, every second he was onscreen was iconic. I will be using lines like “Isaac, never speak to me again” in regular conversation. I’ve already adapted “tig ol’ bitties” into my day to day vocabulary. The horror moments were terrifying as well, from the Metzger’s being pecked apart by birds, the realization that the birds could mind control people, and the Scary Movie-esque moment of Ezekiel wielding multiple guns. What brought it down for me, was the vomiting scene, yes, but also the ending. I know they probably didn’t want to have Emma and Ziggy burning up in a fire, but their rescue just felt like a bit of a cop-out. Still a good time, would love to see Jae in more Starkid stuff. I’d give it a 7.5/10.
7. Jane’s A Car: From here on out, I’d like to say that my jaw dropped, a minimum of once for these stories. Jane’s A Car not only brought one of the lines that haunt me during exams, “Got my foot on the gas”, but genuinely made my jaw drop at the ending. Tom and Becky were my second and third favorite characters in Black Friday, losing to Linda Monroe. It was really cool to meet Jane, in her car form. It was setup in a way similar to a Goosebumps story, where no one really believes the main character, because if someone told you their car was possessed by the soul of their deceased wife, you would either assume they were lying, or have them admitted in a mental hospital. The twist of Jane succeeding in taking over Becky’s body at the end, along with the context on the Black Book, was very interesting. Also, it gave us the brief return of Greenpeace Girl, along with a solid Lex and Ethan moment that set up the main plot. Dylan’s performance of Tom has so many complexities, that it really brings Tom to life, and makes him feel like someone I would genuinely encounter and enjoy being around. The only thing that detracted from this story, was the nearly erotic car scene, that would make the guy in love with his car on TLC proud. As I said before, that sort of thing just makes me a tad uncomfortable. All in all, Jane’s A Car receives a solid 8/10.
6. Daddy: This story makes watching Black Friday, a whole new experience. On my first watch of Black Friday, Frank just seemed like your average capitalist, taking advantage of the biggest money-making day of the year, but Daddy gives him so many new dimensions. While he still has the same personality, you learn he doesn’t have much money, since he followed his passion with unfortunate timing. His dog dies in the beginning, and that alone was enough to bring a single tear to my eye. My dogs mean everything to me, I just felt the pain. The Young family, which I now realize is a literal last name, was a fascinating thing to get more context on. How Sherman can buy all the Wigglys (Wigglies?) from Toy Zone makes sense now. Sheila being involved with the Black Book and the Lords in Black, Sherman gaining the ability to stay a kid forever, learning that the Man In A Hurry’s name is Barry Swift, made the story so fun to watch. Jaime and Corey did amazingly. I’d give this story, an 8/10. Also Ted gets shot in the dick, and that’s funny as fuck.
5. Hatchetfield Ape-Man: Any story with Professor Hidgens and Ted is immediately amazing. The Hatchetfield Ape-Man song was so jazzy, I sing along every time. The story has a Tarzan x The Most Dangerous Game feel, especially when Hidgens chases Johnathan through the Witchwood. It’s a self-aware story, that shows Hidgens and Ted at the best. A lot of those lines made me crack up laughing, and this story marks one of the many times Ted gets shot. What I will say, is that the horror only really picks up towards the end, but for the first episode of Nightmare Time, it’s excellent pacing, and I will never tire of crazed Professor Hidgens. 8.5/10, go watch it if you haven’t.
4. Honey Queen: For being a longer story, it doesn’t feel stretched out. I adore Linda Monroe, anything Lauren does is immediately awesome, but Linda really sticks out to me, for no reason in particular. Aside from meeting her kids and Gerald, we get a lot more insight into Linda in general, from her upbringing to the underhanded means she’ll stoop to, to get what she wants. We also get to see Zoey and Sam again, and it really feels like a blend of the TGWDLM cast and Black Friday cast. We get so much Zoey context, the entire Latte Hottay song, and Nibbly’s first standalone appearance. That Nibbly appearance was written so beautifully grotesque, it really helped me visualize the horror that is Nibbly. Paul also gets two lines, and that's enough to have put this in the Top 5. Also Jon Matteson plays another villain, and while I followed him for his performance as Paul, I’d do it again for Roman. 9/10.
3. Time Bastard: Ted is one of my favorite Hatchetfield characters, and every time he shows up is fun for me. So I loved this deep dive into his past. This and Forever and Always also tie into one another, and that is something I do like to see. The way the story made Ted into a somewhat sympathetic character, despite not changing his personality, and made the Homeless Guy important to the lore of the story, was a cool outcome. It makes watching La Dee Dah Dah Day a different experience. Peanuts The Hatchetfield Pocket Squirrel song is art worthy of the Louvre. The future for CCRP Technical was so surreal. The moment that Ted accidentally kills Jenny, was a jaw drop moment. Watching Time Bastard has such strong implications for Hatchetfield as a whole. Also we get the first solo appearance of Tinky, and Jeff Blim is a wonderful actor. 9.5/10.
2. Forever and Always: What can I say, I love Paul and Emma. This story is near perfection to me. The whole story is just Paulkins, with the very solid hook of the Emma he married, not only isn't the real Emma, but is a homicidal android. The Homeless Man's appearance and the tie ins with Time Bastard were superb. The duet between Robert and Mariah was god-tier. The finale twist of Paul himself being a clone, who killed the original, after you find out they killed the real Emma, is so shocking. The only thing that kept Forever and Always from first place, was the strengths of the next story, and the fact that Paul23 barely has any time to be evil. 9.9/10.
1. Watcher World: There was a brief period of time, where I could not finish this story. It was eerily similar to a recurring dream I had been having, down to the eyes and color motifs. Every single time, I could only get about as far as the first mention of purple eyes, and then I would tap out. I forced myself to sit down and finish it, and Oh My God. My jaw, the ground. Corey and Mariah's performances as Bill and Alice were so believable. Father/Daughter relationships mean a lot to me, so seeing the very realistic bond between them was so emotional. Blinky's concept as the Watcher with a Thousand Eyes is horrifying, so much so that the mere idea of it made the climax that much scarier. The eerieness of the Sniggle performance, coupled with the strange, hallucinatory visions created by Blinky, really brought the overall atmosphere home. The vision that Bill has of smashing Alice's head in with the mallet is scary as hell. And the ending, one of the only happier endings in Hatchetfield. Talking about everything I liked in this story would take too long. 10/10.
All in all, I'd highly recommend this series to anyone I'll come across. Expect the overall look of my blog to change soon. I will not be posting again until the 9th, which will be my 16th birthday and 69th post. Have a good day!

Senior Year things to appreciate apart from Gilderoy (who I think we've been doing plenty of well deserved appreciating this week):
Brian Holden as Hagrid - so fucking funny, I remember squealing my absolute head off the first time I saw this bit. I completely understand why Darren is just creasing throughout the whole scene.
The way that learning about Voldemorts backstory isn't necessary to appreciate his plot in AVPM but when you know it it adds so many more layers. Starkid literally said Voldemort is like that because of homophobic parents and we were like fuck me up fam.
This has already been discussed at length but obviously the last scene. "I hope you find that swimming pool". Albus Scarfy Potter. Quirrelmort. Wang Mu. Okay is wonderful. All of it.
Tyler as McGonnagall - seriously what can't that man play?? He embodies her.
YOU GOTTA GO HOME, YOU GOTTA GO HOME - you know what I'm on about
Jeff Blim's vocals in Get in My Mouth. Also would recommend looking up Nick Strauss' cover from a Leaky Con in I think 2013. It's on YouTube and it's fucking incredible.
I Was and Tonight This School is Mine are both complete bangers and the fact that they're still audiably bangers even with the microphone issues says a lot. The fucking poetry in I was, and the fucking sass in ttsim
The many layers of Always Dance. The beautiful bit at the start with Dylan, then the fucking dance off between Voldemort and Lucius which is everything and finally the evil last verse when he's waltzing with Ginny
Sidekick.
Joey Richter's actual real ass human tears that he manages to squeeze out
Everything Ends continual ability to make me bawl like a baby. Goddam you Brosenthal why is your voice so good.
"I think we FOUND each other". It should be illegal for a line so funny to come in the middle of a scene so emotional. I distinctly remember when I watched it as a teenager having to pause to howl with laughter (tigerfucker and Santa Claus is going to high school are the only other scenes I remember having to do that for on first watch). Lilly divorcng James in heaven and remarrying Cedric is just an inspired concept
Evana Lynch smoking a fag - it was really cool that they became big enough to get an actual Harry potter actor in the show but just watching her smoking while washing blood off her hands made it so worth
The fact that AJs commitment to being in both the band and the cast means there are so many moments where the camera pans across and it's just oh look there's Gilderoy Lockhart just casually playing keyboard with Clark
The death day party scene - Ron and Lavenders date, Harry and Cho's date and then Seamus and Dean's double date with Ginny all 3 of them fucking hysterical. Also the bit with the ice sculpture and the roller skates
Brant Cox - he has like 5 lines in this play but they're the funniest 5 lines
All of the boo boos - most specifically 'fuck the tie' and 'a floating diary? Ah shit'
"sssssnake ssssnake I'm a snake where are my arms gone, only kidding I'm a ssssnake"
"sparkles, sparkles, I'm gay!" ~ Lord Voldemort
"I drew a majestic owl" - watching the SK10 livestreams and apparantly this comes from when they were doing a 24 hour story writing thing (a Hackathon for humanities students??) and Jim got bored really early on so spent most of the time drawing a realistic owl
And finally that it actually happened in the first place because I remember how initially it was going to be right after the sequel but then everything got thrown into disarray, and it kept getting pushed back. But thanks to us being absolute impatient assholes who commented 'give us threequel' every time they so much as breathed on social media we got it and it was wonderful!

Holy Puns, Batman!
We all know and love the plentiful puns in Holy Musical B@man!, so I took the liberty of writing down all the puns or play on words. Was it a waste of time? Perhaps...but here it is nonetheless. The vast majority of puns were said by the villains, specifically Sweet Tooth, played by the wonderful Jeff Blim in his electric debut StarKid performance!
First up is all the candy puns, as those are the most fun! Unless otherwise noted, all puns were said by Sweet Tooth. Of the 46 listed, there are 36 that had a corresponding candy pulled; I have put those candies in bold.
"Well well well. Looks like you guys are up to your old Twix!"
"The Joker was a sucker!"
"It's been quite the Spree, hasn't it?"
"More like the peanut gallery"
"Kidnap the mayor and ransom him off for 100 Grand?"
"How many licks does it take to kill you?" [reference to Tootsie Pop, with which Sweet Tooth kills Chilly Willy]
"Now quit your Snickering...”
“...you Airheads."
"We've got a bat in our belfry, and if we ever want it to be Pay Day..."
"See, divided we rogues are just Runts...”
“...but together we pack a Sour Punch.”
"Sorry Batman, but I'm no Gusher." - Penguin
"Godiva good plan."
"Haven't you and Batman enjoyed my latest batch of M&Ms? Murder and Mayhem, there they are."
"Aren't you a Smartie?"
"You're the one who's nutty if you think I'm going to the nut house, my Almond Joy Wonder."
"Bout time we candy coated this Robin's breast red!" - Joe
"We're gonna tear out your Jelly Belly!" - Gob
"You're not going anywhere, Miss Dawes. Gob, stop her [Gobstopper]."
“I'm the only jawbreaker around here." - Robin
"Hand me my Bazooka, Joe." [Bazooka Joe brand gum]
"And I thought I was a gumshoe!" - Robin [gumshoe is another word for detective]
"Your sugar high is over, Sweet Tooth. And you're right about to crash; into Arkham Asylum, that is. Get ready to trade your Peppermint Patty for a padded cell." - Robin
"Doesn't Candy here look good enough to eat? She's my little Sugar Baby!"
"Yeah, and he's my SweeTart!" - Candy
[Miss, did he hurt you?] "No. It felt like a Kiss." - Candy
"What do you say, S.T.? Should we kill him Now or Later?" - Candy
"I have plans for this little Chiclet."
"Take 5, boys!"
"Candy, be a Dove and tell my troops to advance on Gotham Square."
"It's gonna be a Hot Tamale in the old town tonight!"
"The Boy Wonder Ball!"
"Poor Robin. He risks his life trying to be Gotham's Lifesaver..."
"I've devised a little, a little Whatchamacallit, a death trap!"
"Feast your eyes on this: my nuclear Warhead!" [this isn’t a candy pull, but it is still visualized with a prop]
"It's going to be quite the Fun Dip!"
"Skittle me this: will Gotham forsake its heroes, or will its heroes forsake Gotham?"
"So unless Batman betrays you all and shows up at Gotham Square to save his little Nerd..."
"That's the sound of chaos Good & Plenty."
"What are these little Dots?"
"Do it, you Dum Dums!"
"Oops! Butterfingers!"
"Now he's Red Hot!"
"I'm gonna Crunch you in two." - Batman
"Oh come on, Batman. Gimme a break!" [Kit Kat]
"I've got one last treat for you Batman, and it's a real Whopper!"
I’m going to list the rest of the puns by who said them or at whose expense they were said, i.e. what the theme of the pun is.
Catwoman
"Enough pussyfooting, Penguin, and let's get the meeting started meow, shall we? “
“We better catnip this thing in the bud before that mouse with wings sends us all to the pound"
"I hate to let the cat out of the bag, but your two theme is a cat-astrophe!"
"What a positively purr-fect plan!"
"Oh hiss and vinegar, what are we supposed to do meow?"
Mr. Freeze
"Well, isn't this a cool crowd. It is so ice to see you all again."
"Because of Batman, my operations have been put on ice. My assets are frozen."
"Snow way!”
Poison Ivy
"I've been uprooted."
“Leave.”
Scarecrow
"He's giving me an awful fright!"
Penguin
General bird/penguin words like “chick”, “tweets”, “flipper”, “ruffle my feathers”, etc.
"You're a lame duck, and you know it!"
"I'm cock of the walk around here!"
“Fly the coop!"
"Let's get this jailbird back to the cuckoo's nest!" - Robin
Two Face
Every sentence that man says has “two”, “second”, “double”, etc., but they’re not really puns...he’s just staying on brand. So am I going to write down his entire monologue? Nah.
"Two Face, you deuce-bag!" - Poison Ivy
"Get your broke ass out of here, Two Face." - Mr. Freeze
Egghead
"Alright, you turkeys...yeah, egg-cellent!"
"Hey, what the deviled was that?"
"Scramble!"
"We heard you were hatching a scheme, Egghead" "But we've cracked the case!" "It's over" "Yeah, over-easy" - Batman and Robin
Calendar Man
"Now it's time to March to your death!"
"Looks like today's not your lucky day.”
“Boxing Day is comin’ early!”
“I'm gonna punch you weaklings into next month.”
“Come at me, you April Fool!"
"Calendar Man, Your days are numbered!" - Batman
Honorable Mention
Sluggers and Matches, the gangsters played by Nico Ager and Jim Povolo, say this:

Ranking Starkid Members
Disclaimer: I'm only doing the members I can actually speak to (some of the new ones/lesser known ones I can't really comment on) Also these are just MY opinions.
18. Bonnie Gruesen
She's no longer part of Starkid which is mostly why she's here. She was really good as Hermoine but Meredith stepped in when she left and is also amazing and yeah...she's last cause she's not there anymore. I'm sure she's lovely though.
17. Matt Lang
We don't see much of him. I didn't realize he was younger than Nick but it makes sense!
16. Brant Cox
I don't know him well so he goes here lol
15. Clark Baxstresser
He's another one I don't know very well but he's good with the music so that's good!
14. A.J Holmes
Another music man! But I 'know' him a little better so he gets a little higher!
13. Brian Rosenthal
He was a great Quirrell!
12. Jim Povolo
He gets this position because he's so tall! Also his 'Yeah you'll be the one who is totally awesome' is a win!
11. Jeff Blim
I think he's really talented but he's a later addition so he doesn't get ranked higher than the OGs! lol
10. Nick Lang
This whole thing wouldn't be a thing without him. But he's more behind the scenes so he doesn't rank as high as some of the others!
9. Jaime Lynn Beatty
She's quirky in 'real life' (as much as I can know about her) and I love her Ginny!
8. Meredith Stepien
She took over as Hermoine and has had a lot of other awesome roles. I also love her story about her mother's love of Darren lol
7. Joe Walker
He's very nice to look at and seems like a good guy. He's also really talented!
6. Brian Holden
He's another one of those 'this whole thing wouldn't be a thing if it wasn't for him'. Also his Hagrid and Lupin are EPIC.
5. Dylan Saunders
One of the more attractive Starkids in my opinion, but I also think he's super talented and who doesn't love his Dumbledore?
4. Joe Moses
Snape. Enough said.
3. Joey Richter
I love Joey a lot. He slips from second place though because I don't understand his hair/facial hair choices in the last little while lol
2. Lauren Lopez
Malfoy. Also enough said. I didn't expect her to come in second though! That surprises even me a little.
1. Darren Criss
Duh. No surprise there lol

The Owl House: Enchanting Grom Fright: Happy Valentine’s Gays
Tumblr media
Happy Valentine’s Day owl ladies, gentleman and non-binary folks! It’s time to finish off this holiday in proper style with a LONG overdue review of enchanting Grom Fright and even longer overdue coverage of the Owl House.  The Owl House was one of the best debuts of last year if not THE best, only in contention because Close Enough also started last year and looks to surpass regular show in terms of quality. But with stunning animation, tons of representation, and colossal worldbuilding. And given how i’m on record for thinking Star Vs went so far down the tubes they bumped into where Cthulu is sleeping, it’s nice to have another magic based show that seems to be on the right track: carefully building i’ts world, supporting cast and for today’s topic main romance. It also rather than just obliquely hint one character was bi and the other pan, actually goes out of it’s way to have a bisexual protaginst with a gay love intrest. As my good friend @jess-the-vampire has brought up quite a bit, star had plnety of options. .but no willingness to actually campaign for any queer rep, the way Gravity Falls head Alex Hirsch tried to, he still gets credit for trying, and Owl House creator Dana Terrace gets full credit for.
Terrace got her start working on Gravity Falls in line production before working her way up to directing for ducktales, being instrumental in how Webby was animated and how she moves and acts, and being the director for several classic season one episodes including “Woo-Hoo!”, “The Spear of Selene” , “Day of the Only Child!” which was one of my faviorites from season 1 and “The Beagle Birthday Massacre!”. And while I can’t 100% confirm she’s the only part responsible for starting Weblena, given she was director on an episode where a lot of the romantic subtext was in the visuals, she certainly helped so thank you Dana. Thank you a lot. Their adorable. Point is she’s a talented lady and wasn’t satisfied with directing, so she pitched her own show, combining tons of ides and stuff including of all things, Pokemon Red. I checked the article wikipedia had sourced, it was one of her happy childhood memories as it was one of the last things her dad gave her. Awwwwwww. That’s as sweet as it is painful. She’s also currently dating Alex Hirsch, something I was entirely unaware of but find also adorable. Point is i’m glad I looked into her as she’s a very nice person, and very much my kind of weirdo and i’m happy for her sucess and her singuarly weird show that sprung from that sucess.
Now that part of it’s out of the way the episode itself was an uphill battle as you’d expect. As anyone familiar with this blog is aware, but just in case your new, you tend to hear me bitching about Disney’s handling of queer represntation a LOT
Tumblr media
For the most part Disney’s pretty bad at it: There was the string of “FIRST GAY CHARACTER IN AN X” they had going for a while.. that consisted of a character I dind’t realize was gay, a kiss I didn’t see, and a talk with a character who I honestly wouldn’t of been looking for had disney not patted themselves on the back with some giant sized hands because htey saved some pym particles for that occasion. Ducktales was unable to have Penumbra come out as gay more clearly because I don’t know Ducks can’t be day.. but they can be IMPLIED to be gay or pansexual as hard as the crew possibly can so they win anyway. Pixar was able to have a gay lead character for one of it’s sparks shorts out and even focused on him coming out of the closet and it’s very good and something I WILL give Pixar credit for... but not Disney Plus who go out of their way to not mention the lead being gay.. despite the fact the short opens with a gay space cat riding a gay space dog out of a rainbow and then it being revaled our lead is in a relationship not long into the short. My point is the idiots who won’t watch this for having gay characters are just going to turn it off, who cares what they think, why are you like this Disney. They need to do better, and be better and i’m getting tired of this shit.
That being said... this episode is a step in the right directoin as despite having to get past one obstructive asshole, not her words but damn if it isn’t the truth, as the rest of hte execs were fine with having a gay character, Terrace fought hard for it and WON, having a clearly gay character, and a clear road to a gay romace as the lead one, all because she wanted some representation in her works. So to honor this, I present this review in honor of love, effort and saying screw you to not having represntation because money. Join me under the cut and allt hat.
Tumblr media
We open in the owl house, in the owl house, duck dodge push and shove, it’s how we show our love in the.. you get the point. Luz is learning yet another Rune, this time plant runes.. and already something I love about the series pops up: the fact Luz’s rise in skill is gradual but noticable. Each spell noticably improves in potency with time,  going from simple lights to shaping them into simple constructs, and learning to control or time her spells and glpyhs so they launch she she says so, with each one getting more powerful the more she learns. And on top of that osmething I just noticed on rewatch of this episode is her tecnique in finding them evolved, something I dind’t notice the first time because I hadn’t fully caught up and checked this one out to see if Disney would actually let them go through with it.. and they did. Point is her first spell is found by accident, her second by realizing how her magic works fundemntally, both require skilled deduction and on the fly thinking and casting, so she’s already pretty skilled.. but now sh’es ACTIVELY seeking out a new spell here for the first time. She knows how she gets them, she knows each school is tied to a form, and she likely got the plant from williow since that’s her thing and she’s a saint. A demon but also a saint. They can have those too. It’s what I assume relicor is.
Tumblr media
I miss that goblin demon bat man. Point is it shows an evolution in Luz’s thinking: while it’s a subtle thing she took a more proactive approach this time even if it took a lot of practice.. and it pay soff as by the time of her next rune, while it’s once again sorta handed to her she has less time to learn it, almost none, and finds it singed onto a ball.. and learns it effortlessly to the point where by the next episode it’s a crucial plot point. IT’s subtle but clever character progression, and stuff I really enjoy, showing our hero going from a bit inept but not helpless or incomptient.. to a force to be reckconed with and far more clever and strategic than yo’ud expect given her sometimes reckless and almost always happy go lucky attitude.
Tumblr media
Luz worries teaching King about the internet was a bad idea because he gets excited about a literal cat fight which .. yeah... it was a bad idea but not because of that.. but because next he finds someone saying the earth is flat and she wisely yanks it away. It’s.. very sad that the absolutley maddening and easily debunked flat earth theory is still RELATIVLEY more sane than the stuff we’ve had pop up during the trump era and the cornoavirus pandemic.
But one of the main conlficts of the episode pops up as Luz’s mom messages her and Luz can’t bring herself to tell her anything and just sends a thumbs up.  I do think this episode helps even things from the pilot a bit as it was a bit lopsided: While I got that Camillia was genuinely struggling with how to deal with Luz, and was offered an out and had to take it... the fact she sees NO problem with the normalcy camp, which comes off intentioanlly or not a sa parallel to conversion camps or camps to make autistic kids “Normal”. And as someone whose both bisexual and autistic, I naturally relate to luz way more as someone whose intrests sometimes just don’t quite fit with everyone else, and who dosen’t get how bad some of their actions were.  THat’s why this episode feels like a necessary course correction: Luz is shown to genuinely love her mama and feel guilty.. but we see camilia genuinlely loves and supports her daughter a bit more. While it was clear from the pilot this shows it more, with her genuinely just wanting to know her daughter’s okay and checking up on her, and giving me the feeling that possible consequences or no if something bad WAS happening or she didn’t hear from her for a long time, she would’ve drove up there to get her. It feels like the writers realized the implications they accidently created and wanted to fix it, though I can’t say for certain. But if so good on you for course correcting, not every show does that.
But King encourages her, telling her she’s doing the right thing by lying and to “trust the demon on your shoulder”. Keep this in mind for later, but that joke is great on it’s own. But soon i’ts time for school and Hooty.. barfs out Luz’s books for her.
Tumblr media
I haven’t been this disturbed since.. (Looks at the clock) About 2 maybe three hours ago when I watched a man have, if apparently shorter than the oriiginal cut as I wanted to see everyone else’s reactions dammit, sex with hiis car which was possesed by the mad ghost of his dead wife. Because that’s the kind of stuff i’m into when i’m not reviewing stuff. And before that Tinky.. just everything about tinky.
Tumblr media
I do not have enough time to get into TInky here or why he exestially horrifies me. Or why Jeff blim is a living god. I will save that for a proper review if I have the time tomorrow. Point is I saw a lot today and that still tops it. Willow and Gus are likewise grossed out and want to leave.
Cut to school where Luz wonders what’s with all the decorations.. that remind me of this honestly
Tumblr media
And frankly given the whole state of the boiling isles it REALLY wouldn’t surprise me if the decorations were indeed well cooked faces. But i’ts Grom time, which means elaborate gromposals (Some Dude asks Skara out with a beating heart and an elaborate medical proposal.. which.. points for effort. And for using an actual heart. Couldn’t get one for mine. ), dancing and someone being chosen for Grom Queen. WHich Willow hints isn’t as nice as that sounds. Before we can get into that though Amity bumps into them and gets into a tizzy before meekly greeting “Luz.. and Co”. which.. not going to lie.. is my faviorite gag of the season. Just htw way she adds them and just the way Willow and Guz both smile widely at it as if to say “That’s us!”. Amity drops a note and snatches it back. This will be important later, you all know why, point is Amity becomes Grom Queen.. and is heavily depressed with Luz following her to find out why.  At the gym.. she does indeed ifnd out why: Turns out Grom is not some mutation of an earthname but is based around a horrifying entity lurking beneath the isles, Gromethious the Fear Bringer, who emerges from his slumber once a year and must be fought back and brings out his target’s greatest fears. Just like groundhog day only with less time loops and rodent abuse. Amity is scared of hers, and i’ll obviously get into this more later, and Luz simply suggests asking bump to opt out and Amity appricates the support. Awwww.
Luz heads home and we find out Eda is chaperoning and King is mcing. Eda is also rocking a suit. Just damn girl, damn. But Luz considers taking her place.. and gets laughed at, with Eda assuming she’ll have to save her and King just being kind of a dick. I mean he’s a loveable thoroughly cuddly dick but he’s still a dick... just more like a stuffed plushie of one.  So basically exactly like Tinky. Look I mention him more than once in this review he dosen’t put me in the bastard box. It’s a great system.  Naturally this makes Luz more determined than ever to prove herself and she finds Amity in the night, with Amity having been unable to get out of it.. and Bumps a resonable guy, he just wants a substitute and no one wants the job.. except Luz who galdly volunteers and insists ntohing scares her before the giant spider on the back of her head proves otherwise. Because of course it does, spiders are fucking terrifying. Kill then all.. except the pokemon ones. Galvaltula are sweethearts. As are Ariadoses. Sweethearts who can elctorcute or poison you but still.
So the next way Luz begins preparing.. and by that I mean it’s time for training. Sadly we don’t get an episode of Luz and Amity getting trapped in an 80′s fashion montage... I mean yes Rise of the TMNT also did that plot the same year, but we had two diffrent plots about someone getting trapped in an eldtrich sitcom and a THIRD this year, all entertaingly unique. Though we do get Luz pulling out an otter suit that’s adorable and she sadly still hasn’t worn yet. “This one says i’m an otter, with a dark side”. She also got thrown out of a school dance for.. wearing an otter suit. Okay the other things we saw in the pilot were understandable but htis is just.. baffling. Who cares what you wear to a dance as long as it isn’t horribly racist of nothing at all.
Tumblr media
Damn you flanders and your glorious ass. Point is Amity shows up and threatens hooty’s life because.. he’s hooty. The fact he isn’t dead already is a testiment to how badass he is and how much money he’d cost Eda to replace. Owl Tubes don’t come out of a stygian hole in the unvierse every day you know. That’s only every three years. It’s basic styigan owl tube science.
But Amity wants her to be ready and that she’ll have to face her greatest fear.. and cue hooty popping up, poking amity in the face and asking if she wants to know her greatest fear. Really he can clearly hear everything in the house given he heard that, so he heard the death threat he just chose to ignore it. That.. was a mistake. And by mistake I mean we get a hilarious cut to the outside of the house as Luz tries to stop her love intrest from murdering her second mom’s tube monster. The result is some bandages and an eyepatch. To be fair that last one was just flaring up from a  previous beating.
Tumblr media
For this solem task of training, Amity has brought in her local disaster bisexuals.. aka her twin siblgins Eldric and Elmyra, whose greatest fears are dying alone and being stuck with Eldric. Both understandable. They conjur luz’s greatest fears which are.. some of the funniest shit I heard all year.. and also very relatable. Human souls in cat bodies, which is genuinely terrifying good job Luz, Jerks on the internet who mansplain things, relatable, and soy milk.
Tumblr media
But Amity knows this is just the openign act. it needs to be something deeper.. so while Luz dosen’t realize it’s probably her mom issues she brings up her issues with her other mom: that Eda dosen’t think she can do this. Hence we get a giant eda putting Luz in a babychair. Before we can unpack how wrong that sentence sounded, Eda comes out, and marvels at how hot giant her is. But she’s quickly distracted from sex with a giant version of herself, which is not an easy feat, by the relization “Wait Luz is going to fight grom isn’t she.. fuck i’m going to have to save her”, though Luz holds firm on doing it to prove she’s fine and dosen’t need to be saved constantly. it’s a good conflict. Eda IS right that Luz is not ready for this alone, that she’s overcompensating and that Eda would, in normal circumstances be the one to rescue her. As we’ll see it’s not her who does it but still, were this any other foe she probably would be. But Luz’s motivations are equally understandable: She wants to help her friend not have to do this and she wants to prove she can do it. She just wants her mentor, the only person in her life up to meeting her that GNEUINELY supported her in magic to respect her. To have faith in her and actually see how far she’s come. And given how her own mother writes off her dreams, if not unrealistically, and before this she had no friends or support system to speak of outside her mom, it’s easy to see why this is so improtant to Luz: she just wants to make the one person in her life whose ever support her actually think it was worth it when in truth Eda already thinks it does and just dosen’t want her to die.
She’s just not good with talking to her or not condescending to her as her own ego is stacked sky high, probably because the whole curse thing meant Eda was an outcast by default and the system wants to either chain her to one form of magic and one only or shackle her to them as a hired goon. Her ego, while justified, is also a defense mechanism: a way to shield herself from the fact almost no one cares about her and one of the few people who DOES, dosen’t care what she wants or needs. Once the curse happened she lost just about everything and had to rebuild and thus build up walls around herself and kept everyone else at arms length till Luz changed her for the better. It’s just a tragic clash of two wills both with similar problems but both unwilling to talk about them.
But with time up, our heroes need to get to the diggity dance. So they indeed do and we get some fun sight gags, Willow makes corsages,  that one girl with the cresent head somehow ended up with Mathomule and is not happy, as anyone who ends up with him should. And it’s time for Luz to face her destiny.. in a tux with a tutu because of course, and Amity likes it because also of course.
IT’s time to rumble, with King getting nervous due to eda’s prodding about mcing since his co-mc gus is really good at it, and introducing our champion.
Tumblr media
No wait sorry he’s still trapped in Mojoworld. no it’s still Luz who shows off a seasons worth of skill by easily dispatching the first few fears and saying to grom let’s finish it.. before grom puts a tentacle on her head.
Tumblr media
It’s to downlaod her fear.. which is Camillia. Granted we could all see it coming but still Luz obviously can’t fight her own mother or her own overwhelming guilt.. her mom did hurt her.. but she gets why and just loves her and wants her to be proud but dosen’t know what to do: tell her the trutha nd possibly loose a happy and fufilling life or wait until it all blows up. It’s a painful choice. So luz and king end up running. King runs first because he can’t handle it and Gus talks him back into the groove while Luz runs away because she can’t fight her own mom, understandable, and Gus encourages king to lead the crowd which he does. Amity and Eda follow Luz.
So Luz is backed down, facing down a monster tha’ts going to go on to everyone else next if she fails... and Eda prepares to interfere.. but it’s AMITY who faces her fear and dives in. And we find out just what her fear was as grom turns into a humanoid shape and rips the letter in half.. it was a grom invitation. Though conviently the who it’s adressed to was ripped out.
And yeah not going to save this one: It’s Luz. You know it I know it I didn’t even hide it in the intro. Even before the reveal in a bit it was obvious. But it also makes perfect sense. I’ve avoided talking about her character arc up to this point because I was waiting for now. Amity’s growth is the third major arc of the season behind Luz’s slow learning of magic and eventually induction into hexside and eda’s curse, which I lump in with Lilith chasing her since both were mildly entertwined and then entirely are once the reveal hits in the finale. When we meet her she’s an outright bully.. but we slowly see there’s more there. That she’s not really HAPPY or content, is contstantly under pressure by her family name, is outright bullied by her own siblings who don’t understand her. So Luz coming in, seemingly only being intrested in magic because i’ts neat.. understandably bothers her. She’s not a great person, bullying her old best friend because tha’ts what’s expected and being close with outright bullies because of that.. but it’s through Luz she starts to grow, realizing Luz is genuinely nice and genuinely sorry for any trouble she caused Amity, and evne then both cases were causaed by Amity’s own dickishness and outside forces, so it’s easy to see why she defrosts faster. Her siblings realize they’ve genuinely hurt her, and actually try to be good siblings from then on and help her, and slowly Amity learns to truth luz, trust in her, and accept her... and thus accept her feelings for her. There are gradual hints she’s growing attracted to her.. but her walls had to come down first, and it wouldn’t of worked from the outset. The show cleverly has the two build a genuine friendship, two opposities who work well together, so when feelings do happen it feels natural. It’s not “I’m in love with this person because I have to because you can’t be friends with someone your attracted to” bullshit or anything like that, cough star vs cough, it’s just well built catching feelings. I’ts how this kind of thing SHOULD go: niether went in intending for this to happen.. it’s just happening.
And Amity’s reluctance is painfully understandable, as Luz is the ONLY friend and support she has. Sure she and willow are patching things up, but WIllow would understandably choose luz over her and she’s terrified of loosing the one good thing in her life. Of course Luz would either say yes, and probably will some day, or let her down gently, she’s nice.. but it’s also understandable to be afraid that someone won’t take the reveal well. I’ve been there trust me, it’s easier when you let it out even if you get rejected, but I get it being hard to let out because you don’t want to loose a friend. I did not, and niether would she, but I can see why she wouldn’t want ot take the plunge. At least not yet. We’ll see this summer hopefully.
But we do get a shiptastic, gorgeously aniamted scene of the two dancing an fightin gin perfect synch, combinging luz’s new use of plant magic with amity’s mastery of abominations resulting in the two utterly decimating grom, likely in part because with two fast moving targets he can’t get a lock on and likely nees more fear and mass to attack multiple targets at once. Or just more tendrils. it’s a quick, beautful sequence that’s utterly glorious, being framed as romantic as any hetero scene of the type and rightfully so. A triumph and well deserving of this praise.
Our heros have won, get crowns, and King gets praise. All is well.. except Luz drops the crown once she gets home because she feels like she failed and feels lost about her mom.. though at least king gets it “I’m king and queen, best of both things!”. You tell em sister.
So we end with Luz genuinely responding to her mom, with some montage stuff as we see Gus and Willow poke a fear blob, willow fears bugs, understandable and Gus fears clowns...
Tumblr media
Also understandable. Though I didn’t put up a bug picture because
Tumblr media
And Amity looks out folornly into the night. Camilla responds to Luz.. and mentions letters.. which while Luz brushes those off.. we see someone sent them. And by someone I probably mean king since we now know only eda and him had acess to the portal, and given he was actively encouraging her to lie.. yeah i’m supscious. But we’ll see next season. For now this episode is fan fucking tastic, showing off tons of character development, being representative and sweet as all hell.. and being really funny. Tons of great gags in this one including the turtle guy from an earlier episode being forced to be adisco ball.  This is easily the series best so far and if you haven’t checked it out, please do it’s fantastic as is this show. Check both out. Until the next rainbow i’ts been a pleasure. Tommorow more disney shenanigans this time with pete. And also more of this possibly we’ll see what I get done.

for no reason in particular i decided to rank all the starkid shows
it’s 12:15 am and i have an assignment due at 9 am lets gooooo
12. MAMD - ngl this show is pretty hilarious just not quite as memorable as the others imo and i say this because i don’t remember it all that well past the one time i saw it a few years ago
11. Ani - also very funny and i’ve seen it multiple times and for whatever reason the line “it’s a humorous play on words... that’s where the comedy comes in” is in my daily vocabulary. it’s probably the show i quote the most just because of that one line. and it’s a star wars parody that gives me feel good 80s movie vibes and i love that. but something has to be this far down and i’m sorry it’s gotta be Ani.
10. Black Friday - idk if it was because i was hyped after tgwdlm and had high expectations but honestly the only Starkid show that I kinda didn’t like right away. like i love Dylan and his monologue-y songs but they felt so out of place I was just taken out of it. That being said, all the songs slap and I’m so glad they’re all on spotify so I can add them to my playlists. It was also a bit darker and required some world building and honestly I think I just wasn’t expecting it. Probably in reality I’d rank it same level as Ani, but again I LOVE the music thank you Jeff Blim.
9. Firebringer - Very fun show. Also had high-ish expectations because Meredith and Lauren were leads and I was excited for the first female led show and maybe they weren’t exactly met at first, but got really close, and then I came around afterwards. It’s funny and I loved all the characters and the music is so good and fits the theme really well.
8. A Very Potter Senior Year - every time i watch this (particularly near the end) i’m in tears. It’s so good because Harry Potter is saying goodbye, and the AVPM trilogy is saying goodbye, and the Harry Potter movies/hype was declining, and like I watched it again when I graduated high school and my point is there is a lot of emotional charge at the end of the show, but the whole thing is so fucking funny. I’m gonna be honest though, least favorite of the three AVPM shows, not just because of the way they filmed it but because I don’t remember most of the character conflicts and stories for this show.
7. A Very Potter Musical - I mean it’s really the first one that got them attention how can you not love avpm? Great comedy, great music, great show. I think I lied earlier, I probably quote AVPM more often than Ani.
6. Starship - The Little Mermaid meets aliens, I love it. Also, very great music, arguably the best villain songs of any starkid show have to go to Pincer and Junior. Also one of the best love songs?? An incredible I Want Song. And like the planet of bugs they create is so bright and colorful even though they’re limited by budget and the stage, etc., and all the puppets are so cool. It’s just a very good show that is very slept on please watch Starship.
5. Trail to Oregon - So this came out when I was learning about the Oregon trail  so this was pretty fun for me. I think this was probably the second or third show I ever watched (first being AVPM) so ngl I have some bias towards it, but the music is good and there are only a few characters to keep track of so I remember them pretty well. The gag of Joey playing all the other characters in Independence is just insanely fun to watch (a performance really only bested by brian in solve it squad) and I don’t care how “mature” I’m supposed to be, I will always laugh at the fart jokes at the end of the show (btw, watch with captions it’s so entertaining).
4. Holy Musical Batman - yes at Batman references, yes at having a similar story to the lego batman movie, and yes at Jeff Blim playing a psycho character. It just feels very classic cartoon inspired, especially with all the puns (which if you didn’t know is a humorous play on words, and that’s where the comedy comes in). I rewatched part of the show the other day, and honestly still makes me laugh as if I’d never seen the show before.
3. A Very Potter Sequel - a glorious blend of all the comedy of AVPM and the emotional heartache of AVPSY. It doesn’t have a Voldemort tap sequence, which the other do have, which is unfortunate, but we do get Stutter, so I’ll let it slide. Also, one of my favorite opening songs of a Starkid show. I just love the show. And I mean I made a poster of Umbridge’s rules that’s hanging in my room I’m pretty committed to the show lol.
2. Twisted - It’s DISNEY and it FEELS DISNEY wtf. I love the twist on Aladdin. I love all the references the show makes.Definitively the best love song in a Starkid show. The emotional climax is so good. All of the twists and explanations about Jafar and Aladdin are great. Jim Povolo’s character is the best character even though i can’t remember his character’s name. THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD. For the longest time this was my favorite show and sometimes it is but at the moment I’m writing this I’m in the mood for the other show.
1. TGWDLM - YES. It may be because I’m working on tgdwlm fanart rn, but yes, I adore this show. Music slaps, story is so good, there is so much comedy, and there is so much analysis I can do about Paul and Emma and the apocalypse in general, it’s just wonderful. No wonder a ton of people got into starkid after this show, it was sooooooo good. I watched this when it premiered on youtube, while I was on vacation and could’ve been doing anything else. And the fact that it didn’t have a happy ending like every other show up until this one was so shocking to me and it just makes it so memorable.
god i have to do my homework now don’t i

TGWDLM Song Ranking
Ok at this point I think Im just gonna go in reverse for ranking shows so y’all gonna have to wait until I have time if Im ever gonna get to AVPM. Anyways here is TGWDLM song ranking its pretty controversial btw, maybe (definitely) more than my Black Friday one.
14. What Do You Want, Paul (okay so love Jeff but this song creeps the hell out out of me so I don’t like listening to it that much. its hilarious but a little too much for me like 1 min in)
13. Let Him Come (so its great we love the choreography just ridiculously short. Jeff and Jaime singing together is amazing tho so we stan)
12. You Tied Up My Heart (I like this more than What Do You Want cuz its more fun and Jaime is FUCKING hilarious I could watch just her every day in that song I DIE. Jeff slaps too but I like other numbers a lot more)
11. Show Stoppin Number (so..... this is where is gets controversial. I don't think I have ever seen SSN ranked this low and I apologize please don’t hate. I LOVE ROBERT I love the hips I love the song I just think its ridiculously over hyped and there are so many songs that are so much better. also JOEY need I say more)
10. La Dee Dah Dah Day (ok Mariah pop offfff. she honestly slaps her vocals kill me and the choreography is amazing. also JOEY he just slaps this entire show lets be honest. I could listen to the homeless dude on repeat forever. this song is hilarious and it also makes Paul nervous enough to talk to his co workers and omg genius Jeff Blim and Nick and Matt)
9. The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals (ok so this song has a special place in my heart cuz I was a fan of StarKid for a while but in high school I kinda forgot abt it cuz school. during quarantine I came across this song in my recommended on YouTube and I fell in love w/ StarKid all over again. anyway story time over I love all of the solos in this song Jaime Corey Joey and Mariah slap and genius Jeff is hilarious I DIE at Jon’s false entry every time w/o fail)
8. Cup of Roasted Coffee (ok so Lauren cracks me up every time we stan an uninterested queen. Jaime’s solo and the whole decaf thing is HILARIOUS HER FACE LOL. also all three of them blend so well in this song like its amazing we stan the girls of TGWDLM)
7. Not Your Seed (once again, Mariah SLAYS. this song is so amazing and also so emotional just watch Corey the entire time you WILL cry. also once again choreography is amazing and catchy and fairly simple we love learning it. Mariah’s vocals dominate and this song made me fall in love with her before La Dee Dah. also HARMONIES yayayay we love Jeff Blim music)
6. Let it Out (ok so the solo’s at the beginning of this are amazing we love Jaime and Robert and everyone also the brushing and feeling up Jon is hilarious I die. also POP OFF JON. his voice is so amazing and iconic and the struggle is real cuz like I wanna rave his singing but its nOT GOOD that he's singing but like GO JON)
5. America is Great Again (ok so I love Jeff (incase you couldn’t tell) and this is HIS SONG also the harmonizing background vocals that say whoa or war or who the fuck knows anymore its amazing who cares. also Jeff’s smugness throughout this entire song makes me DIE. choreography is also amazing as you can tell I appreciate great choreography. the whole thing with choking Jon is so cool looking omg also Joey’s face is fucking hilarious cuz he's the only face you can see besides Jeff and its rlly funny lol but rip Ted)
4. Show Me Your Hands (ok so I hate Sam (Jeffs character) but this song is amazing and funny and sad all in one so iconic. again choreography slaps. also vocals slap like go off Jeff Mariah Robert. the terror on everyone else's face is amazing we stan good acting. also Jeff is low-key terrifying but also hilarious we love dimensions in a character. ICONIC)
3. Cup of Poisoned Coffee (ok soooooooo. rlly short but honestly slaps. the harmonies Mariah and Robert at the end and JAIME’S HIPS also Corey messing up the choreo (almost) kills me. I could honestly listen to this thirty second song on repeat and I HAVE so, number 3)
2. Inevitable (this is essentially TGWDLM version of a mega mix plus some and I am HERE FOR IT. this is pure example of Jeff Blim’s genius writing and the songs flow seamlessly into one another and I stan. also jON. and the kick line is the most innovative kick line I have ever seen and I am HERE FOR IT. we love choreography we stan James and Lauren’s choreography I love this show. also this song is low-key terrifying but also so amazing at the same time and the holy shit moment at the beginning is like......)
1. Join Us (And Die) (JAIME. I don’t need to say more but I will. I saw something that said the note she belted was a #c5 and holy shit I can barely sing that normally let alone belt in what is basically chest voice Jaime you inhuman goddess. also Jeff jamming out in the back to Jaime’s amazing voice is a mood and definitely what I would be doing if I were anywhere near that stage and its honestly what I do on a daily anyways we stan. also rip Ted in this song we stan CharTed but stan this song more sorry not sorry)
once again if you get this far you are a superior human being. im always open to conversation just might not respond right away cuz im busy lol. lmk your thoughts
thx <3, alimay

okay, so it’s been brought up in bits, but let’s talk about the similarities of Guy and BF. y’all know that post about the spider verse heroes’ worlds being slightly different, like their memes and whatnot? i think that’s how this situation is, where the same things happen, or at least similar things
i’ll edit this post as i go, but here’s what i have so far:
dialogue:
- “Okay. Okay. Okay.”
- “I’m authorizing you to use my firearm.”
- “Wear a watch!”
- “Should we grab these chairs? I’ll get the piano!” “Should we take these boxes? Fuck yeah!”
- “I have this kooky, reclusive biology professor-“
actions:
- ethan/hannah’s “floss” dance and the smoke club kids
- the specific way Macnamera twirls his gun to Paul and Lex
- the LDDDD/SSN dances in Deck The Halls
themes:
- the bit Ted said about “going for the head” and Becky shooting Linda in the head/Curt’s line character and Gary kicking Ethan in the head to kill him
- want. similar to Guy where you got infected by wanting (Bill with his daughter, Charlotte with Sam, etc) BF also deals with want. everyone wants a wiggly for different reasons, like Becky wanting one for the kids at the hospital, Tom wanting one to get Tim to love him, Lex and Ethan to get to California, etc.
music:
I ranted about this in a group chat, but it wasn’t very cohesive (nor will it be cohesive here) but basically the themes of the songs in Guy match up, though not perfectly, with the songs in BF. for instance:
- Wiggly Jingle/The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: a seemingly goofy opening number that basically tells the plot through the main antagonist’s eyes. (TGWDLM with them singing about the apotheosis and needing Paul, Wiggly Jingle about Wiggly ‘taking over people’s hearts and souls’)
- What Tim Wants/What Do You Want, Paul?: these are both pretty straight-forward. we hear Tom and Mr. Davidson sing about what they want to no one in particular (well, WDYWP was to someone in particular, but you get it)
-CaliforMIA/La Dee Dah Dah Day: characters longing for a new life/recalling the new life that has just happened
- Our Doors Are Open/Cup of Roasted Coffee: a seemingly innocent song about the main female lead (Lex and Emma) going about their normal work day, super simple and easy, nothing could go wrong
- Feast or Famine/Cup of Poisoned Coffee: in which the previous song and the character’s life gets turned on its head
- Monsters and Men/You Tied Up My Heart: using appeal to a secondary character to ensure them that everything is and will be fine, both coincidently sung by Jeff Blim
- Deck The Halls/Show Stoppin’ Number: both second act songs that simultaneously do and don’t make sense to the plot (nor were either supposed to be as big and loved by the audience). Both also coincidently sung by Robert Manion
- Made In America/America is Great Again/Join Us And Die: technically villain songs, in which we learn more about the villain and their wants and needs. ‘that one concrete goal that motivates all their actions’ if you will. also Made in America/America is Great Again are both songs about twisting the phrase ‘the american dream (or, to quote HMB, “the american way”) into something evil
- Black Friday/Not Your Seed: ballad about the death, or apparent death, of a character (of the same age, or nearly the same age) and is a huge driving point to the plot (Alice with Bill’s death, and Lex with her survival)
- If I Fail You/Let It Out: a last-ditch effort to stop the big bad and make everything right in the world
- Inevitable/What If Tomorrow Comes: everything seems to be resolved, but ultimately is not
- Let Him Come/ Wiggle: second act songs that are sung by the “evil” characters and precedes the show’s climax. Both songs also mention the coming of a character played by Jon Matteson- Paul in TGWDLM and Wiggly in Black Friday ( from breakthefifthwall )
we also hear the interlude to La Dee Dah Dah Day when Emma and Paul are in Tom’s home
the ‘aliens invading minds’ interlude plays in Made In America when Wiley says ‘the prophet has been chosen, and she will bring about his birth’ ( from wont-you-be-my-neighbor-totoro )
‘not my father’s hopeless seed’ is sung by Lex in Black Friday, in reference to Not Your Seed ( from anon )
in What If Tomorrow Comes, Curt’s character has Peanuts in his hoodie pocket ( from fluffyhales )
when Macnamera is introduced in the show (and a few times after) the interlude to America Is Great Again plays ( from anon )
characters:
- Paul
- Emma
- Man in a Hurry
- Homeless Man
- Macnamera
- Charlotte
- Mr. Davidson
- Ted
- Hot Chocolate Boy
- Bill
- Hidgens (mentioned)
please, if you can think of any more, let me know, and i’ll add them in

this is boring but...STARKID SHOW RANKING
12. ani: a parody
ok so lemme explain, i love every starkid show, and i love ani. but i feel like its one of those shows where its like, some things are kinda better than this, yknow? also jar jar binks is one of the best characters in this musical.
11. firebringer
i literally perform this all the time in my room, but i feel like the writing on this isnt the bEeeSt? idk honestly. i love the female representation and im gay for lauren lopez, but this musical is not my absolute favorite.
10. holy musical b@man
i absolutely love the costumes, and i really dont wanna put it this low but iDk this is hard as fuuuuck. the writing is amazing, and by that i mean THE PUNS AND JOKES. they literally made the calendar man call batman and robin “april fools” and he also said “get ready to MARCH into your deaths” like WHAT. also jeff blim’s acting and timing is absolutely perfect.
9. me and my dick
i...fucking love this show? its one of the funniest shows if you’re into sex humor. joey’s heart is one of the best characters and boy am i a lesbian for ms. cooter. i absolutely love the production quality, its worse than a very potter musical somehow. i love how the quality of it has “5th grade sex ed” vibes. yknow?
8. a very potter sequel
oh boy am i gonna get hated for this. a very potter sequel is usually the favorite among the trilogy. ok in the harry potter trilogy, its not my absolute favorite, and it doesnt give the same vibe yknow??? but as a starkid show itself its really funny and the choreography is spectacular. thank james tolbert for that.
7. a very potter senior year
bro this one just HITS DIFFERENT YKNOW? if you ignore the fact that they have scripts on stage and that it seems rushed, then its really beautiful. i was watching it last night and i heard senior year play and i started SOBBING. the fact that it was the end of the trilogy was so sad. also, avpsy was supposed to be the last starkid show which makes it even sadder. the songs in this show are just so much better. for example, tonight this school is mine, sidekick, i was. THEYRE ALL B O P S ! joey richter’s vocals improved soo much and he deserved that solo.
6. twisted
DYLAN FREAKING SAUNDERS, GET THIS MAN ON BROADWAY. i love the character and emotion he put into ja’far. if i believed gets me every time, a tearjerker if i do say so myself. joe walker as prince achmed was the best choice honestly, now he’s one of my dream roles. also, jeff blim’s aladdin???? GOLDEN. thst scene where you find out he murdered his parents and he goes through this whole dialogue between his other identity is hilarious. the comedy is beautiful.
5. black friday
i might get attacked for putting this at number 5. but still, KENDALL NICOLE YAKSHE IS A FUCKING BLESSING. she’s only 13 and shes already top notch at acting. and honestly, i love mariah, i do, but im glad she didnt play lex. i loved angela’s version of her. also, IM SO HAPPY WE FINALLY HAVE AN ALTO. I CAN ACTUALLY SING TO BLACK FRIDAY AND CALIFORM.I.A. also, KIM WHALEN!!!!! HER VOCALS IN TAKE ME BACK ARE FUCKING ASTONISHING. robert manion is a BLESSING and jeff blim looks sosososo happy in this.
4. a very potter musical
i fucking love this musical. draco? a dream role. voldemort? mood. the songs? amazing. hotel? trivago. no but honestly, the reason why i like this musical so much is the nostalgia. whenever i listen to it just tear up a bit yknow? also this musical got me into glee so 😗✌️. also i feel like snape (joe moses) is so under appreciated in all three musicals??? like he’s so fucking funny. the music in this show is so good. also, quirrellmort??? beautiful.
3. the guy who didnt like musicals
and now, the musical that got me into starkid, this mess. ah yes, it was a hot july day. i was performing in a play, but oh shit i had strep!!! so i missed our last dress rehearsal :( but if it wasnt for that, i probably wouldn’t even know what starkid is. i remember trying to watch this musical when it first came out, but for some reason i had a fear of jeff blim so i turned it off. but i watched it and was like “DAYUM” also, robert manion’s hip wiggles are really fucking hot for some reason. i found this musical really funny and im really into comedy. the opening number? golden. the ending is where its at though, INEVITABLE. jon matteson has a really nice voice. and mariah rose faith, A GODDESS!!!! i had been watching mariah’s (@linguinismansion) covers ever since i got into theatre. i loved her dead girl walking cover and her world burn cover. (and now shes in mean girls!! wooo!) im also 90% sure mariah is why im a lesbian so...thanks...i guess?? anyway i love this show and its chaotic cast
2. trail to oregon
you guys are probably very confused as to why this is second. I TOLD YALL I LIKED COMEDY. jeff blim’s writing is fucking amazing. the music? godly. cornwallis? sexy. for some reason when i first watched this i found jeff blim sexy??? dont ask??? but its really hilarious and it honestly is just my family taking a road trip. c h a o t i c. the son is my dream role and if i ever play him then i want my name to be onion. dont ask. but i love the plot and music so much. also joey richter’s constant quick changes in independence are impressive as fuck!!! also he’s so good at every role in this musical. 11/10
1. starship
this might be a shocker since i never talk about it or have never used it in any of my posts. but every time i watch this musical, i cry. i fucking love status quo and joey richter has come so far in singing and theatre. he’s honestly so fucking good. status quo is the best starkid song, there i said it. also, im such a fucking lesbian for taz. her spanish accent, wow im gay. and dont get me started on dylan, the arm structure that you need to hold up pincer’s puppet, damn. he had his arms up for like 12 minutes!!! kick it up a notch is one of the best villain songs in all of starkid. also, brian holden is just fucking...making me question my sexuality, i dont know why but junior is cute as shit. it might be the hair i dont know. starship needs more recognition in the starkid fandom. im not saying it’s underrated like how ani and me and my dick are, but its very rare that you hear that this show is someone’s favorite. this musical is so fucking good and the music is just mWa! s p e c t a c u l a r.
