So a lot is bothering me about the narrative structure of season two. If I didn’t have my own novel to work on and didn’t have several more edits commissioned, I’d write a fix-it fic for all of season two to fix the narrative stuff and to really delve into character arcs that felt off. Maybe I will anyway. Idk. If someone who actually has time wants to take any or all of this and write a fic, go for it. Can’t wait to read it. Anyway, this is a very rough outline that’s subject to change if I do write the fic, but from a developmental editing perspective, here’s my two cents nobody asked for on season 2:
Thematic elements: Atonement and coping with trauma, the crew leaving (especially in regards to Stede’s emotional wound where he’s worried about people being better off without him) and identity (especially in regards to Ed/Stede/Izzy). These are present in the show as-is, but they don’t play out well just yet. I’m focusing on these to make things cohesive.
Episodes 1-3: mostly perfect. Loved these and the pacing felt correct for the most part. I would keep the tone from these episodes through the season. Ricky would be introduced here. Zheng is fantastic and all of her stuff stays here.
What I’d change: Ned Low would be the primary antagonist for this season. Ricky would be set up through this season to be the primary antagonist next season. Ned Low’s record is Ed’s original suicide by proxy plan, and that needs to be introduced here. There needs to be a scene showing how Ned tortures people in these episodes. Izzy needs to bring it up as a concern to Ed. Ed doesn’t care about the crew’s safety, obviously, someone (Izzy) needs to mention Ned’s record and possible repercussions here. I’d also NOT play Lucius’s trauma reveal with Stede like a comedy beat. (Like seriously, I HATE that the show played SA as a comedy beat.) Black Pete would be shown crying of Lucius so it’s not just told randomly after the fact. Olu would be shown missing Jim.
Episode 4: The unicorn thing with Izzy was beautiful and I’d keep that. Stede and Ed going to Mary and Anne’s is fine. Buttons can APPEAR to turn into a seagull.
What I’d change: The Kraken Crew and Lucius need to stay paranoid longer. They need to tally things up and realize that Low’s record has been broken (I think Ed was too checked out from reality/high on rhino horn to even realize he’d broken it; Izzy has bigger things going on and likely also lost track) but that record being broken was NEVER shown in the original, just told after the fact. In order to NOT switch to a speculative genre randomly for a convenient metaphor, Buttons appears to turn into a seagull but he doesn’t literally. Revealed to the audience but not to Ed/Stede (more on this later). Stede doesn’t put it to a vote that Ed can come back. He’s the captain and decides that that’s how it’s gonna be. The crew is also gonna look to former first-mate Frenchie (whose trauma is in a box) for direction when Izzy is struggling. It’s Frenchie’s idea about the leg. Izzy is still struggling a little more after his new leg, and I think he should be shown happy at the end but with a bottle of something not far from him (but more in that later).
Episode 5: Ed’s influencer non-apology clearly written by Stede works. Ed and Stede need time apart. The cursed suit can stay for the levity of it. Ed and Fang can go fishing. The moonlight kiss scene works for the most part.
What I’d change: Izzy can be sassy with Lucius, and a bit of a mentor to Stede, but he’s going to be drinking in this episode. Not plastered drunk like ep 4, but it’s gonna clearly be a struggle and everyone is just Not Talking About It. Lucius might start to parallel that a bit and I’d like to see more interaction with them there. I’d also like to see the Kraken Crew (all the crew really) treating Izzy as their captain. Stede says he doesn’t feel like the captain and there should be a reason for that. If he forced them to let Ed back on the boat in ep 4, that can be addressed here. Izzy is following Stede so he can eventually persuade everyone they have to as well, though Izzy’s earned more trust than anyone at this point. I’d delve into him doing for Stede what he did for Ed pre-season one (“massaged the crew” when Ed’s moods seemed off to keep things running (I can’t remember the exact quote past that, but that’s essentially the idea). The Kraken Crew needs to be wary of Ed longer. They do not believe Buttons is a seagull. They all think Ed killed him and Stede says he didn’t see Buttons turn into a seagull, but he takes Ed’s side and doesn’t think Ed killed him. That starts a rift and an “us or Ed” thing that’ll play out later. Ed can try to interact with the crew and get the cold shoulder. He’s done nothing to restore his reputation. As far as the cursed suit goes, I would have them receive some sort of warning from Ned Low when they go to pawn the suit off on the other ship. Stede or/or Izzy would keep it quiet from the crew, who are only just now starting to follow Stede as the captain. Ricky needs to be shown here wanting to end piracy, and interacting with Zheng. After the moonlight kiss, I’d have them holding hands as they walk off. I think maybe Lucius would want to leave the ship here. The Swede and Buttons are gone already, and it makes sense for Lucius to want to leave but Black Pete to want to stay. They’ll both still be on board here though.
Episode 6: Calypso’s Birthday will be the plot for 7/8.
What I’d change: let me preface this by saying I haven’t worked Zheng’s plot fixes out fully. But. If we’re moving this to the next two episodes, something has to happen here. I’d keep the bit with the guilt room and with Ed giving away treasure to the urchins saying don’t be pirates, but have him say more in front of Stede about how piracy is bad for specific reasons that Stede just doesn’t clock as Ed wanting to stop. I think the plot will be along the lines of Stede engaging in more piracy. Ed will quietly be struggling with the fact that Stede is becoming a more and more proficient pirate in his own way, Ed himself not wanting to pirate anymore, and his tentative new relationship with the captain of a ship he is definitely not wanted on by anyone other than Stede. Zheng needs to interact with Ricky here about him wanting to end piracy. Izzy is a good first mate here but he’s still drinking. Lucius may start to parallel that here. Former first mate Frenchie picks up the slack and falls into a leadership role when Izzy is struggling too much, and this is eventually gonna cause him to have to deal with his trauma that’s bottled up, when he has to talk to Izzy about clearly not handling his own. Eventually, things will come to a head with the crew not wanting Ed on board. It becomes an “us vs him” thing with the crew threatening to leave if Es doesn’t. Stede will try to smooth things over but Ed will interrupt and say don’t bother, he’s leaving. He doesn’t know who he is but at least fisherman would be better than pirate. Episode ends with Stede heartbroken and Ed going off to fish in something that isn’t his leathers, so he wouldn’t be recognizable from a distance. Low pinpoints Stede’s ship but doesn’t see Ed on it, and plans to bait him out by boarding and torturing the crew.
Episodes 7-8: Nope. I’d keep almost none of this.
What I’d change: This part is also still rough and I need to flesh it out a bit more, BUT: Calypso’s birthday would be episode 7. The crew would wanna party but also wanna cheer up their sulking captain. They’re glad Ed is gone. Izzy is a good first mate here but still drinking. He encourages the party to Stede who agrees. They’re spending Ed’s treasure that he’s left, turning the poison into positivity by getting rid of the bad memories the Kraken Crew has of obtaining it. Stede and Izzy bond a lot here. Ned Low does interrupt the party (I think maybe he’s also “working” with Ricky but not really, he has his own agenda) planning to bait Ed back. The scene in Stede’s quarters would be Izzy and Stede, not Ed and Stede. Once again the crew are suffering for Ed’s actions, and THAT is how Ed can atone for it. He can save them, probably with the help of Zheng who he’ll have met when he goes off to be a fisherman. So there’s some camaraderie going there. Also, with help from Lucius and Black Pete, who will have to trust him in order to save the crew/themselves. Stede will be the one to kill Ned Low, and he and Ed will still impulsively sleep together as a coping mechanism at the end of episode 8. Izzy is still alive and well (though still drinking a lot; and I think this could be a key to Frenchie having to confront trauma instead of locking it in the box), and things aren’t smoothed out with Ed and Izzy yet, that’s for next season, Ed has ACTUALLY done something to earn the crew’s trust back, and it appears to be a happy enough ending for Ed and Stede. Also, IF Ed says “I love you”, Stede is GONNA say “I love you too” because WTAF was that in the show?! But I’d end the season with La Vie en Rose and fireworks, Izzy happy and celebrating with the crew, a happy moment for Ed/Stede, the antagonist defeated, and Ed actually having atoned for his previous actions.
All of this is rough, but it’s my original thoughts. If anyone wants to use the base of this to write a fix-it fic, go for it. I may do it myself if I can find the time between work writing responsibilities.

SEASON 3 THEORIES
Part 1 (Episodes 1-3)
I never made any theories for Season 2, but quite a few of my theories from Season 1 were really close to what actually happened, so I figured I’d give my shot at theorizing Season 3.
I can’t really guess how exactly these plot points will land and in which episode, but I think these things will happen in the first 3 episodes, in no particular order. We’re getting all 3 eps in one night so they’re going to be establishing quite a bit.
Ep1 - Confined
This is the episode where we will see Omega and Crosshair confined at Mt. Tantiss together. Omega has her Season 2 hair, and seems more optimistic than she does later on in the trailer.
At this point I don’t think Omega is treated as a prisoner. I think she’s restricted of course, but it seems to me from the trailer that she’s serving as more of an assistant to Nala Se with limited freedom. Hemlock promised her she’d be treated well, and I feel like he was telling the truth. And maybe Omega has chosen to behave herself (for now) and has made a plan of luring them into a false sense of security so she can find a way out.
And then she sees Crosshair up and alert and not being tortured (and being escorted to another part of the facility? More cloning experiments?) and she decides to escape with him somehow.
Crosshair is disheartened and incredibly sad, maybe because he found out about Tech and perhaps believes his other brothers were captured/killed. Who knows. Someone either screwed with his emotional state before this shot, or maybe he’s just drained from his captivity. But I think it’s the former.
It will show more of the inner workings of what’s going on at Mt. Tantiss, but it won’t reveal too much. I think it will mostly establish what Omega is doing there.
Ep2 - Paths Unknown
As for the boys, we will see that there’s been a passage of time. How much time, I’m not sure. But probably a few months. That’s when we hear Hunter say the famous “Omega’s been waiting for us a long time. I’m not making her wait another day.” (pretty sure that’s all one quote that’s been sliced up)
It’ll establish that Echo has left again with Rex, probably to liberate more clones and look for hints about where Omega is along the way. Hunter and Wrecker are alone. They set up base on Pabu, recruiting help from Phee who is more than willing to help. But they never stay there long, and they run themselves ragged trying to find Omega and not getting any closer. Both Hunter and Wrecker are more angry and determined than we’ve ever seen them.
Ep3 - Shadows of Tantiss
Meanwhile, Omega finally hatches her plan to escape…
Things obviously don’t go according to plan, and she doesn’t get too far before she’s stopped. Just in case, they inject her with a tracking implant…
and she gets imprisoned.
It looks like this little cage situation is the same as this one from the leaked trailer:
Omega’s hair situation is really the only thing throwing me off lol.
So she meets Crosshair again. She tries to get through to him and show him that she hasn’t lost hope. He argues and Omega gets through to him in the way only she can. She finally gets him to agree to an escape.
The episode could end with Hunter and Wrecker getting a call from Rex and Echo that they finally have info on Omega, thus leading into Ep4, A Different Approach (which would make since if you consider they have new information).
So these first 3 episodes will be jam packed with information, and maybe not a ton of action, but will be establishing episodes to move the story along.
Another thing I noticed from the leaked trailer…
Are we getting a flashback(s)? That looks like Hunter’s old armor paint job, and that backpack and helmet to the left is very distinct and only belongs to one person…
I would seriously love to see Clone Wars era Bad Batch again. Maybe flashbacks are interspersed throughout the season for extra exposition/character development/emotional damage. Maybe the first episode opens on a flashback!

Hiii Shan,
I cannot remember for the life of me if I asked you about it or not and tumblr search does not help. I've been listening to the @the-conversation-pod round-up ep and apart from making me burst out laughing in public transport, it got me thinking about 'I Cannot Reach You' and the friends-to-lovers trope. Have you ever listed your fav dramas that use it? If not, can I ask for one pretty pretty please?
Thank you for listening to the @the-conversation-pod! And this is such a good question, because friends to lovers is actually a hard trope to get right and often isn't executed that well. It's also a term that is often misapplied to mean something more like friendly to lovers, aka a romance that starts out with the main pair meeting and keeping things platonic for awhile before they escalate to romance.
A true execution of the friends to lovers trope in its purest form is a relationship change narrative, and that requires an established and important friendship, a major transition in the way both members of the pair view each other, and most importantly, lots of angst. If there's no serious anxiety and fear about the changing feelings and losing the friendship present in the narrative, it's not actually friends to lovers, it's just a natural romantic relationship progression. So something like Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, while a great story about a pair of college students who establish a friendship before eventually realizing they like each other, is not really a FTL as defined here. And my beloved Sing My Crush doesn't qualify either, because romantic feelings were present the entire time, just suppressed.
So with those parameters set, there are only a handful of dramas I think have done this really well. Onto the list:
I Cannot Reach You
You already mentioned this one, so let me just reiterate what I said on the podcast: it's the best friends to lovers bl ever made. This story absolutely nails the relationship change arc and puts us in Kakeru's shoes as he realizes his best friend since childhood 1) is gay and 2) has developed feelings for him, and takes us along for the ride as he decides what he wants to do with that. Yamato is the absolute picture of tortured angst and the whole thing is excruciating in the best way, because it makes the payoff so very sweet.
Fight For My Way
I am pretty sure I have recommended this show to you before, and I will keep right on doing it because it's a fantastic romcom and my favorite friends to lovers drama of all time. This one is heavier on the comedy beats, but still gets to the heart of the fear and anxiety, and also goes deep on how hard it is when one of the friends clues into their feelings much sooner than the other and hangs in as a loyal friend while nursing their wounded heart in private. Watching Dong Man finally figure out what the hell is going on and catch up to Ae Ra was one of the greatest pleasures of my years of drama watching.
Theory of Love
I said what I said and I meant it! This drama is controversial because it hits the angst really hard and pushes the characters to some ugly places and some people just can't deal, but it's such an authentic portrayal of how much it hurts to be in love with your oblivious friend, and how much we hurt ourselves by not being honest about our feelings in a misguided attempt to protect the relationship we already have. I love it dearly and will defend it to anyone.
Romance Is A Bonus Book
A bit on the lighter side, watching this drama is like curling up on the couch in a cozy sweater with your favorite book and a cup of tea. It manages to both take the relationship arc seriously while never once making you doubt that these friends will be okay, because they are truly ride or die. There is also an age gap at play here, so we have the added bonus of watching Dan Yi wrestle with her changing feelings for her best friend that she has always thought of as a little brother. I will never forget her staring into the mirror to practice telling Eun Ho "I don't see you as a man" and getting increasingly desperate as she realizes that is no longer true. *chef's kiss*
My Only 12%
See-iw and Cake, my beloveds! I love this pair a lot, and think this drama is a fantastic example of how powerful the friends to lovers trope can be when combined with a queer awakening and the added layer of fear that brings to the story in a non-bubble show. The arc of their close childhood friendship morphing through time, separation, and changing identities is so so good. This one comes with a caveat because the last two episodes of the show are abruptly bad and weird (New Siwaj *shakes fist*) but happily, the FTL arc is already complete by then and none of the nonsense messes with the couple.
Hospital Playlist
I know you know this one, but I cannot possibly finish this list without talking about Ik Jun and Song Hwa. This is such a slooooooooooow burn that plays out over 24 episodes, and it's brilliantly done. What I like most about this take on the trope is how mature and adult it is; these two are 40 year old booked and busy professionals, and they also value their friendship more than anything. I love that you get the whole arc of their relationship over 20 years as they meet, have initial sparks, don't get together for reasons, genuinely settle into a platonic friendship and date and even marry other people, and then realize their feelings are changing again later in life. The payoff after all this time and patience and quiet yearning is so beautifully earned.

So I started Not Me... (IT'S SO GOOD)

I am watching SLOW with people in rather different timezones from me and I had planned to wait till after OF (cause how much First can I cope with yk) but then @anon451 sent me this gif...
...and did I really have a choice?
I just finished Ep 5, I watched Ep 1 three weeks ago, waiting is torturous but I am excercising patience.
SO while I have been thoroughly distracted by how much I am enjoying this show (It's so ENGAGING), have some notes so far.

Oh My God I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Young boy seperated from half his family takes on his twin brothers persona to find out who tried to have him murdered honestly DOES NOT sound like my thing...and yet...
...I'm starting to think I'm wrong about what my thing is.
Young man goes on journey of self-discovery and exploration where he is exposed to his own privellege and confronts both the extremism that it can forge but also his own self and views and how he is benefiting from the system and how he can fight it...(from the outside? from within?). Told through his own thoughts, his growing relationships with the "friends" of his twin brother and the contrasting conversations with said friends and his father...
I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH OKAY
AND we have this story explored in a different thread of "rebelling from within" in our newly discovered cop/artist storyline, cannot wait for that to pan out more!!

I never really thought friends were the one's who beat Black up so if that ends up being the case I WILL be shocked
EP 5
This ep however I started to feel uneasy about Todd...
(OMG seriously what's with the PRETTY did they put something in everyone's water??)
We got two different convos which seemed a bit more interogatery than I'd like, maybe he just really wants to know who hurt Black, or maybe he's using White to figure out what the friends are up too...
He IS being presented as very rich and privilegedin this show, in ways that the show is making a point of pointing out problems with (mostly in regard to Black/White's privilege but this also applies to our very rich Todd I would think...)
So is Todd being a good friend?
...idk
Is he Blacks emergency contact? I mean he must be if the hospital called him? or was he there for the beat down and then took Black to the hospital and that's why he was there?
What about the mum, what happened with her? Does she know Black nearly died? (discussed more in a mo)
Todd was the one the hospital called when Black nearly flatlined...
Also the beat down happening so soon after White arriving from Russia...did Todd know he had returned?
Also the ENTIRE car convo felt weird
W: Have you talked to my mum? She might be able to help
T: I reached out, she said she would leave it to the authorities. She wan't no involvement
(How bad was this falling out? Does she know White's back?...or is Tod lying??)
W: Todd, should I go see her?
T: You can but I don't think it'll help. The fight between Black and her was huge. It was so bad they decided to cut each other off. You know that Black got involved in some unlawful business, and your mother is a judge. They're on different sides.
(Todd casually starts prying for more info without pause...(left out B's answers))
T: When you said you'd quit, what did those guys say?
T: Do they want to keep going?
T: Do you know what they're next move is? Is it about Tawi?
T: If you're to do something you must learn all about their plan, it's too risky otherwise
T: Are you going to stop them?
It...it just feels like a lot, although given the nuance of the show so far I don't necessarily think they'll go with Rich = Bad so maybe I am reading too much into this.
I certainly WANT him to only be motivated by helping Black and White get to the bottom of whatever is going on.
I mean obvious answer is Tawi sent people to beat up Black, but why Black specifically? did they know he was the ring leader? Have our gang damaged Tawi's properties before?
We also have Eugene the girlfriend, who Eugene thought Black had broken up with...
Plus whatever maybe feelings are going on/have been going on here
(So is White's theory that Eugene made that but never gave it right...or did Black actually give it to Eugene??)
(Also I know they won't but can I at least get one kiss?? Look at this chemistry ugh please please??)
Although this IS working for me too, which I was a bit worried about, OffGun are not really a couple I've responded too before. But I am enjoying their dynamic in this a lot
Summary
I love the visuals, I love the characters, I love the story, I love the growth, (I keep getting distracted...)
Can't wait till next time!!

Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 4 thoughts (scattered) and initial reactions (rambling)

God I was so stressed now I need to rewatch because I know how it goes and I don’t need to be anxious

I love that omega’s pony tail has a little bump at the back, thinking about when I was little and trying to put my hair up by myself god it was such a lumpy and bumpy mess. I doubt anyone would have shown her how on tantiss only telling her she needs to keep her hair out of her face. She’s just a little girl who had to take care of herself all those months. Like the kaminoans were bald, the other clones were men. Where would she have even learned how to do a pony? Emrie? (Hunter? 🤭)

Farscape rewatch: 2x11 Look at the Princess Part 1
This three-parter is one of my fave eps and I think classic Farscape: taking the usual scifi trope and remaking it into something unique. On the surface, the set-up is something that has been done before, not just in scifi but in adventure lit of Victorian era: our brave Earthling (or Big Game Hunter, or Aristocratic Englishman) ends up having to pretend/be the groom of local royalty. Because he is so awesomely superior and attractive, of course. See Prisoner of Zenda and 8 million other titles. But this is Farscape, so this is not the case at all. When John is being chased, it’s never anything good (I keep thinking of the fact that when Farscape finally decided to do the good old ‘hero must have more than one woman’ thing, they had Crichton raped by Grayza. In general, Crichton’s uniqueness brings him nothing but misery.) Here, the ‘other culture’ is far superior to the Earth one in its advancement, it’s powerful and needs no favors from anyone. Moreover, there is no ‘love’ or ‘he is so attractive’ on the part of the ‘natives.’ The reason Crichton works is, precisely, because in this world he is the genetic screw-up so he works as a mate for Katralla whose DNA has been messed with.
Nor is John someone who falls for the exotic Princess, or heroically rushes to the rescue of the kingdom out of noblesse oblige. He fights being married tooth and nail and then ‘unheroically’ surrenders to it when faced with threat of being turned over to Scorpius, and then saves everything only out of desperation and at the end, he is confronted with loss: his inability to kill Scorpius, the fact that he will never see his future child.
You know, I’ve forgotten how sharp the dialogue in Farscape is and how easily is can alternate between heart-breaking and completely funny. I keep thinking of the scene with John and D’Argo where John talks to D’Argo about hope and how “I have hope or I have nothing” and it’s an utterly heartbreaking scene:
(D’Argo pointing out his alternative is brain dissection by Scorpius is so very on brand - there is never an easy out or a good choice and a bad choice, just a bunch of bad choices.)
But anyway, it’s heartbreaking...
But it segues right into the bit of cultural misunderstanding about what ‘best man’ means and it’s now funny.
(Side note - will always love that D’s objection to what he thinks is John is propositioning him is “I am in a relationship already” and not anything else.)
D is a really good friend to John in this. They’ve come a long way since s1. Only a good friend would tolerate being constantly interrupted in his activities with Chiana (I love that John is so freaked by his future he merely registers her there and continues talking).
John needs a friend badly at LATP. He doesn’t know it, but his insanity breakdown has began for real (he tells Aeryn he hears Scorpy in his head and she shrugs it off as paranoia. It must be pretty awful for John to have the one person you fear and hate the most always present). It’s a shudder-inducing scene in retrospect as it would be bad enough if it were PTSD but as is (Aeryn’s asking if 80 years as a statue is better than Scorpius here shows how much she does not yet get just how damaged John got by all of this; she will by the end of s2 but the price will be horrific.)
He is trapped by the Empress (whom I am not a fan of. I understand the necessity, but people who have no problems using other people as pawns are not a fave. And the whole setup is seriously proof as to why monarchy is a bad form of government - they are one bad ruler away from disaster). And then there is Scorpy. I love that John’s reaction to Scorpy is purely visceral, unreasoning. He is terrified and the way he uncontrollably flashbacks to his torture is evident on his face, and he tries to jest and put bravado but it all falls hollow.
He cannot control himself. I don’t think anyone else, not even Crais or Grayza, comes close to eliciting such a reaction out of him. Crais did a number on him physically, Grayza raped his body, and both hunted him assiduously, but Scorpius raped his mind and that’s his most important faculty in the mad world he’s thrust into. (But I love that even with all of that, he still asks Katralla what she wants not just as a last ditch hope of escape but because he does not believe in forcing people.)
And now, I want to discuss my favorite stuff: John and Aeryn. I find myself both very frustrated with Aeryn through these eps (until the end of ep 3) and understanding completely where she comes from. She might deny that her wanting this marriage off is jealousy but Chiana can see it. I think in a way Crichton can too, but he needs her to give him something, anything to indicate reciprocity, that she would one day want to have something with him. The worst is when she says she won’t come to the wedding. She pushes a lot and wants a lot but tries to give nothing in return and yes that is very unfair but she is terrified, being with John would be the first real relationship she would have and she cannot handle the exposure, not yet. She can deal with the sex but she cannot deal with feelings.
Her ambivalence is totally encapsulated in the first scene: she scents her hair so John would notice and tells him so later but when he does, she freaks and pulls away. He leans in for a kiss and she kisses him back but then breaks off. No wonder John is going insane. I always die a little of swoon when they discuss the hair oil and she says that she will tell Zhaan he found her oils pleasing and he responds, both frustrated and trying to convince her desperately: ‘It’s you I find pleasing. Oh boy. She desperately needs to make it all about sex (something she is used to and familiar with). Crichton only wants her for sex, he is a walking horndog on legs etc etc, because she wants to deny any of her own feelings and any of his.
After having seen the entirety of Farscape, I melt a little when she sees Crichton interact with the simulacrum of his child and she realizes that he would want a child, that children are important to him. But also - as I mentioned, this is one child Crichton will never meet and he just has to live with it, there are no clean victories (side note, I loved that John was the one who wanted the emotions and the marriage and the baby and Aeryn had to think long and hard; such delicious reversal.)
P.S. Rygel/Aeryn kiss will never cease being funny. But also extra hilarious in light of his becoming her baby’s surrogate later, heeee.

Ok, that was A LOT. I have so many feelings but no coherence so i'm gonna do this bullet point form but def not in order, just in order of me remembering wtf happened lol
-IZZY AND WEE JOHN IN DRAG!!!!! Wee John looked STUNNING with that Divine-esque appearance and Izzy had that transmasc drag king kind of thing going on (iykyk) that made me love him even more
-Izzy singing LA VI EN ROSE took me tf out!!! i'm glad he got to finish it after the *ahem* distractions bc Con's voice is so beautiful I could listen to it forever. We better get it in the album!!! Also someone posted the lyrics translated and i cannot get over the lyrics:

-But in all seriousness i feel like this whole thing in ep 7 was such a parallel to s1 but also a very necessary bit of conflict in their journey together that was bound to happen. THey want different things and neither is wrong or right for that. Stede did react poorly tho but like he just had sex w the love of his life, his first man, and Ed the very next day is like "aight i'm out". I'd be pissed too. After killing someone which we know is a big trigger for him historically.
But Ed also had a valid reaction. He's wanted to retire for a while and stede knows this but it hasn't seemed to have sunk in quite yet. He fears that Stede only sees Blackbeard and...its fair of him to have that impression tbh. These are two messy, traumatized dudes who have never had a real relationship and there's gonna be bumps. I hope we get s3 so we can better explore that like Djenks wants.

To be honest, I think vegaspete storyline has been messed up. And no this is NOT a hatepost for ep 8... this has nothing to do with it at all.
I believe that even if we get 1 or 2 full ep of vegaspete, it would be very difficult to redeem it. Suppose 50 mins are allotted to vp, cramming them in one episode would do absolutely no good! It would make no sense if we go from torture at the start of the ep to cuddling and watching a movie 20 mins later, and another 20 mins later vegas releases him. The audience will be left reeling... no way in hell anybody is going to buy that! A story so complex like vp needed time to stew... we should have seen their relationship change week by week to make it believable. If we have to believe that pete was captured for a month, it would have been way more effective to spread out the story over a month in real time with 10 mins in each ep and shown the audience the change in relationships and growth of the characters week by week. This is how people would understand, get invested in vp and maybe accept the relationship.
And I don't mean pete should have up and got kidnapped randomly in ep 3... they should have atleast introduced some meaningful interactions that furthered their story. I remember a post saying that if we hadn't read the novel, nobody would've thought that anything is going to happen between vegas pete. And this is so true! We all are analyzing their interactions like crazy cuz we already know they are endgame.
A lot of series do this, that's why people fall in love with second couples who barely have 30 mins of screentime in total but we see them every week and get invested. (That one taiwan series which had a gay sidecouple)
I think that boc didn't really plan to tackle vp storyline very seriously(maybe it's too complex/dark for them to portray). Vegas pete have mostly been used as plot devices to develop kp relationship. It's just that unexpectedly bible build got a lot of fans and they have no idea what to do now 🙈Thats why they announced a second season.
With that said, I'll still wait and see how boc handles them. Vegaspete or not, i am enjoying the show regardless every week.
Also please no more comments of "the series is called kinnporsche for a reason". I know the title of the show. I am still allowed to like other characters😒. Doesn't mean i don't like kp. Mileapo are absolute darlings!!

Also I'm rewatching the first few eps of MK and i have. Thoughts.
The little girl clocks that Steven specifically gets rejected from the field of reeds in ep1 which is. Interesting.
The postcards might be from Marc's travels but they also might be from the gift shop bc we do see a shot early on where there's a rack of them
Steven can't see Khonshu yet in the first ep bc Khonshu deals with Marc and can only be seen by his avatar given how Layla can't see him, but as Steven and Marc's lives bleed together Khonshu is more and more visible
This whole thing starts very very shortly after their mom dies. Marc's abuser dies and he immediately serves Layla divorce papers, goes on a headlong search for this scarab artifact that he and Layla have been looking for for years so that she can't find it, and asks some random girl out for Steven. He's preparing to wrap up all his loose ends to give Steven his life. He's cutting ties and getting ready to essentially stop existing. That's,,,, such an intense grief response but go off i guess
Marc is also trying so fucking hard to keep Steven safe and unaware while everything starts to fall apart around his ears and that thought just makes me wanna cry given how ep 5 ended
Seriously tho his world is imploding and his #1 priority is still giving Steven that normal uneventful life he wished he could have
Also Khonshu knows about Steven the whole time, whether bc god magic or bc Marc told him we don't know, but he clearly recognised Steven and knew that Marc didn't want him to be there
Marc has a good handle on this all already as well, which gives me the idea that he's aware he's been living inside the headspace this whole time, which afaik isn't very typical of people with DID, but then again if he was the prosecutor then that would make sense.
Stevens little sand circle is in a moon shape which is adorable
As the barrier between Steven and Marc breaks down so does Stevens hold on reality which makes sense, that all this was started not bc of some big world ending threat but more simply bc Marc's world is imploding bc his mom died and he just. Can't handle it. Having an abuser die is fucked up already and really hard to parse bc they raised you and there were probably some good times but also they hated you and made your life a living hell but they're your parent and you owe them everything but they tortured you and you owe them nothing and it's just. Tricky. It's a sticky tricky situation, speaking from experience.
Marc goes to work for Steven at least twice, which is adorable bc hes just trying to give Steven a sense of normality. This man lives in a storage locker on a cot and imploded his own marriage just so that Steven can live in an uncomplicated world. Obviously Steven is taking Randall's place as the brother he's supposed to protect and that makes me want to Cry
Marc somehow hid his DID from his wife, deliberately bc there's loads of evidence that he knew he had it for a long while, and despite Layla being smart af he kept what was apparently days/weeks of Steven's life from the woman he lived with. Which is just wild.
Also Marc killed like eight guys with just a tiny metal scarab and that's badass
Steven probably started studying Egyptian gods to stay awake bc he had an unconscious draw to it after Khonshu made Marc his avatar
The moon when Marc fights the jackals at the museum is the same shape as Khonshu's staff
Marc has been kidnapped multiple times according to Layla and doesn't always have access to the suit, which might be a hand-wavy explanation he gave her to explain away Steven (and Jake?) to Layla
The things Marc cares about have bled into Stevens life for a while apparently given the French poetry and obsession with Egyptian mythology
The flat Steven lives in apparently belongs to his mom. That's. That doesn't exactly make sense? Unless that's just what Steven assumed since he didn't find it or pay rent on it i guess?
Steven needs glasses and Marc doesn't apparently, or more likely Marc bought him fake glasses or just doesn't wear them even tho he needs them
Steven keeps dunking on Marc and Marc just takes it bc his self esteem is so low that he believes he's the one ruining everything when he goes so far out of his way to keep everyone safe and happy. The postcards and Gus and pretending his mom is good and alive and leaving Layla to let her live an uncomplicated life and buying Stevens flat and setting everything up so perfect every night so Steven wouldn't know he left and hiding away whenever he's not explicitly needed so Steven can live instead of him and now I'm making myself sad bc he tries SO HARD to make it all right, all the bad shit he's done in his life, and Steven still hates him for it and Marc doesn't protest bc he thinks he deserves it bc it's his fault everything is his fault bc that's what he's been told his entire life by the woman who's supposed to love him
I'm actually not done with this thought bc Steven shows such contempt for the things Marc has to do to keep them safe and he treats Marc like a monster and Marc doesn't argue bc he thinks hes a monster too which is why hes pulling back and surrendering his life to Steven, who isn't a monster and was created to have good nice things and not be afraid all the time
On another note, Marc chose Steven Grant bc, like the poster says, he has no fear. Obviously Steven evolved into a whole person who has fears and doubts but I'd reckon that it still holds true that when Marc is afraid Steven fronts. That or intense emotions, anything that overwhelms him or makes him feel out of control, he concedes to Steven. Like just after the Shiva, for example. Marc has never had a mental breakdown in the eat ice cream and cry sense bc Steven takes over. If Layla gets hurt in the last ep and Steven isn't there I'm afraid Marc is just gonna completely fall apart bc he's not able to handle such intense emotions
Steven apparently thinks about killing Donna all the time which is kinda funny bc he could. Like at any point if he got too angry Marc would front and he could straight up murder her easy. Technically Steven could too. It's like Mr Incredible sitting and being yelled at by his boss who's like a quarter of his size
Layla has to be significantly younger than Marc bc A. Vibes, she's still way too headstrong and stubborn and runs headfirst into shit without thinking and B. If her dad was somewhat of a contemporary to Marc then she's gotta be at least 5-10 years younger. Oscar Isaac has 8 years on May Calamawy, which yeah that tracks
After all the magic and gods and shit you'd think Layla would accept Steven being a different person a lot earlier and yet
Marc is not only saving Steven from his dangerous life, but also from having to become dangerous like him. He loves Steven so much it HURTS bc that's a part of him! That's a part of him that he loves so much he would do anything for and yet he still hates himself so much
Also him breaking the mirror at the end of ep 2 bc not only is Steven telling him everything he can't bear to hear but also he hates himself so much that watching someone with his face confirm his worst fears, that he's exactly who his mother thought he was, is too much for him
God when Khonshu tells Marc he's worth protecting there's such anger in his eyes bc he thinks Khonshu is just lying to him to get what he wants
Marc possibly being an alcoholic btw makes a lot of sense bc if he can't have strong emotions without Steven taking over he would have to keep himself numb to get his work done uninterrupted and keep Steven safe
The ending title for every ep has a bunch of stuff including a polaroid of Layla and her dad and the psych hospital and Oscar Isaac with three faces which is just more proof that Jake is coming. My bet is that it'll be in the last few minutes of the last episode as a sort of gotcha and opening to s2
The ending title also has the staircase from his house in Chicago which. Hurts. As well as a psa for the American national mental health hotline which is a nice touch
Ok this is getting way too long already and that's just the first 2 eps so imma stop here but by god are there so many threads that slowly get untangled over these 6 hours and honestly hats off to you Mr Feige you'll always be my second favourite marvel director/producer (behind Taika Watiti ofc)

I haven’t talked much about dead city for the last couple weeks, but here’s some thoughts on tonight’s episode all in one place instead of making separate posts as we go. As usual, spoilers ahead:
SAVIOR NEGAN MY BELOVED. Legit got emotional seeing Lucille again. Savior Negan’s mustache hurts my soul a little but idc he still looks Good. but also gives the possibility of him and Simon having semi-matching mustaches at one point which is extremely funny
Negan designing the walker fence, maybe? That’s kind of what that looked like. If it was, then the walker fence was a relatively new thing when we saw it in the main show, since he already has the Kingdom working for him at this point.
Good to see Simon’s arms have doubled in size since we last saw him, jfc. But seriously, I had the Simon cameo spoiled a while ago but it was so cool to see him again
I love that Neegs is a canon nickname for Negan now lol. How long has the fandom been using that, especially the comic fandom?
Negan wearing two gloves in the flashback implies he either 1. lost a glove at some point, or 2. decided to start only wearing one for The Aesthetic. I’m gonna go with the second option lmao
The hall/room we saw during the flashback scene with the croat is in the sanctuary but isn’t a space we’ve seen before. the basement, maybe? i never considered the factory might have a basement. was way too big to be one of the cells we saw in the main show.

Make him believe he believes that. etc.

The Eclipse Ep 1 - 3 Live Blogging
One of my most anticipated shows of the year due to the casting (FirstKhao my loves) and the moody vibes/plot. Also, everybody and their pets seem to be watching this show and there's just so much content for it, I'd most likely get spoiled if I wait. So, here starts my torturous journey for the next 9 weeks where I hope the show lives up to my expectations (the disappointment will be far greater if the ending falls flat when watching week to week than binging) + I get to enjoy the show with the fandom since it seems like it's an active one (the number of gifsets/tiktoks/long written posts I've seen already!).

I know this is a live blogging post but I'm thinking of actually just watching through at least each part without coming on here to write something every few minutes.

Funny that I've watched like 75% of this via tiktoks already, only that last scene of Ayan talking was new to me
The curse could still be a real thing maybe? I've heard people say it doesn't seem to have the supernatural aspect they expected, so maybe it doesn't exist but then again maybe it'll come into play later

Akk really is so for the rules and seems to really, really believe nothing would be ever wrong if all the rules are followed
The twin's character's name is Wat. The next mission is to figure out the names of Win and Louis' characters
Kan seems more aware of how he feels and that he's into guys than Akk does. He seems to then do his best to contradict it and make it seem like nothing, like when he went at Wat for suggesting Kan and Louis' character were boyfriends or when he moved away when he was sitting too close on the bench.
Bro I keep typing people's real names instead of their character names lol Hard to really get into the character when I have like the real person and 2 other characters they've played in my head.

This part ended up being actual live blogging since most of the scenes were new to me (fave scene not included, that's been a fave since release lol)
The mystery, the protests, and the "curse" seem like a really big part of the plot, which is cool! I hope that continues throughout the series instead of focusing 90% on the romance toward the middle/end.
The sound/music in this didn't bother me per se but it was certainly very loud and prominent lol
I'm curious about the views on this. They reached 1 million for episode 1 part 1 ~12 days after the release but I don't know how that compares to other GMMTV and popular non-GMMTV series.
Anyway, interesting first episode! I don't know how I feel about it as a first episode because I'm not actually having first-time reactions to the episode since I've seen such a large chunk of it already via fanworks.
Episode 2 tomorrow, then 3 the day after and then... a week of wait. On the bright side, seems like there's a sizeable fandom shaping up for it. So in the meantime, I can read the On-Air and other Eclipse threads on Reddit, listen to the BE Podcast episodes on it, participate in Discord discussions, watch all the tiktok vids/edits, and read/reblog the plethora of Tumblr posts/gifsets. That'll have to sustain me during the week + maybe rewatching. I'm also curious if this'll affect my consumption of other series. Perhaps I'll stick to light ones that don't require too much thought or emotional involvement?

Another thought the morning after: Because I already like the actors and trust the show to make the characters grow in organic ways, I'm not disliking any of the characters and am actually quite fond of them already. Akk's aggressiveness and one-track mind could easily have irritated me in another show and Ayan's audacity with his flirting could've put off but the actors are really charming.

Which student do I suspect is enacting the curse? Maybe Namo, Pawin's character since he seems kinda power-hungry? It'd be interesting if it's one of the main 4 but I don't think it's Ayan/Akk. If Kan, then maybe he's covering his tracks by insisting it's a supernatural curse? If Thua, then it wouldn't make sense to me but then again, we know nothing about him thus far and maybe he's just covering his tracks really well. Who else do we know? Wat? They haven't given him enough depth or motivation for that yet.

I fully don't get what the big deal was. Kan had everybody's assignments in that USB? And he couldn't just run after the teacher and hand it in after she's walked out? Lol nobody's yelling at you about missing assignments in uni and I can't remember how it was during high school. I think the teacher would be upset if we were all missing our assignments but then again, that wouldn't happen because we wouldn't give all our assignments to one person. But then again, we don't have things like prefects and class presidents and so there's more individual responsibility and only responsibility for your individual self/group.
I was unsure why they kept zoning in on Namo looking at Kan and Thua in that class and was wondering if they were trying to signify he has malicious intentions but I guess mans just knew what was going on.
Anyway, Kan brining macarons as apology, Thua not really accepting them, Namo telling him Kan got in the fight because the kids called Thua a slur, then Thua telling Namo to keep it a secret in case Kan gets kicked out of the Prefect Club (Aside but ...would Namo have reason to want that?) and taking the macarons

I'm curious about Teacher Sani and what she's making of the school rules and how she'll come into play later
Akk talks so shitty about Teacher Dika/Ayan's uncle. When Ayan says he has no right to talk about Dika that way, Akk says what right does Ayan have to talk about Suppalo's rules that way. It gives very... conservatives who value businesses/terrible traditions and status quo over the rights and livelihood of actual people. This show, like Not Me, isn't subtle in its messaging (this one using the school as a metaphor for larger society whereas Not Me was talking about politics more directly) but it's still interesting to see the parallels
Also, 2nd time we got to see Ayan's Arthur meme fists while Akk's badmouthing Dika
I'm noticing the really loud background music this episode more than I did last episode

Bro an intense ass scene of a classroom debate with the teacher. It was interesting how Ayan doesn't care for the uniform but is willing to acknowledge that it can be a form of equality, the way he's saying the hats are. It's mostly interesting because he's saying it's all true like yeah that guy was a dictator, but he was also implementing the hats for equality, and also the teacher approves of the uniforms which are for equality and was developed during the same era, but also Ayan doesn't fully abide by the uniform when he doesn't want/need to
Also, Akk's little "Ayan, stop" was really cute to me in the midst of all the intensity
Naurr, not a tussle between my beloved friend group! It ends well here (suchhh a cute hug, Wat the mediator) but hope it's not foreshadowing for more betrayal/upsetting moments between them (The Gifted: Graduation flashbacks)
Interesting to see how differently Akk and Kan are loyal. Kan's headstrong and ready to go to bat for people he cares about (@ the 11th graders for Thua, @ Akk for Wat) whereas Akk's willing to be disliked/"seen as the bad guy" to protect people he cares about (as a prefect to see that rules are follow which he believes is for the best of the students, to protect Wat here)

Should I watch the preview for next episode... maybe not? I watched ep 1's preview but that's because I knew most of this episode as well whereas I don't know how the preview will trick the audience for this one. Perhaps I'll watch it if I rewatch the ep later.
This episode didn't have much of the mystery of Ayan's uncle (I even forgot about it until we see him holding the diary in part 4) and not much about the curse. However, we did get a lot of like depth to the characters and their relationships, so it didn't feel like a stagnant episode.
I freaking love friendship groups in shows soooo much and I'm delighted to see the friendships here (Akk Kan Wat, and also Kan/Thua and frenemies to future lovers Akk/Ayan) and how they all look out for each other.
Forgot to mention this but is Teacher Dika Ayan's real uncle? or just like... an uncle the way every man who can be your dad's age/bit younger but isn't your dad is your uncle? His mom knows about it but that could also be like 'oh, he was a tutor and ofc his mom knew him. doesn't mean he was her brother'

Episode Thoughts:
I like how the characters are becoming more interconnected. Thua and Ayan, as well as Ayan with the protestors. Also, seems like we'll be getting a side story about Wat's career path. Didn't get much of Namo or Kan/Thua this episode.
Glad they brought back more of the protesting and the uncle mystery that wasn't there much last episode. This school is so shitty and uncaring of its students, as expected. Also interesting that Wat and Kan are trying to dissuade Akk from continuing to be the prefect president. Do they also want to quit? Would there be a moment where they can't bear to enforce (bro I forgot this word for like 2 days and the only thing I could think was 'implement the rules' but that's not what the prefects are doing, just enforcing them) these rules anymore and quit and Akk feels betrayed?
The romantic storylines are also progressing. I'm excited that it seems like Ayan's starting to actually be into Akk! Not just outrageous flirting for the sake of flirting but mans is getting flashbacks to their cute moments when they're too close. Good luck Ayan, did his share of flirting and flustering but hope he can handle being flustered as well.
Fave Scene: Ayan watching Akk doze off and us as the audience get to see as Ayan starts to fall. It's not just fun and games anymore.
Curse Culprint suspects: I don't knowwwww like
Namo is still the prime subject but idk if him being the culprit would be too obvious. He wasn't in this episode much anyway (Main suspect for curse but also main suspect of being a red herring - he’s framed suspiciously so that we focus on him instead of the actual culprit/s)
Kan? idk? he even tried to talk Akk out of being the prefect's president but idk if that means he's concerned for his friend or it's a little more nefarious. But also he seems really concerned for the trio, so I don't actually think he did it
Thua? He had his fist clenched tight while The World Remembers gang was being punished + we now know he doesn't fully agree with all these rules. He appears to be not involved in any school politics when speaking with Ayan but he could be hiding things, who knows.
Wat? idk I can't think of any motivation or suspicious activity. His storyline seems more related to his future career.
I wasn't suspecting the main pair in the previous episodes and I still don't think it's Ayan but maybe...
Akk. Teacher Chadok has given him the responsibility of stopping the kids' protest and seems like The Curse has been a good way to dissuade any unrest in the previous years. So perhaps he started off with that? And since Chadok has been putting more pressure on him to stop them, he's going the extra lengths to fuck with them. The Curse and Akk both have the same goal, so perhaps it's him? But then again, some of the consequences of the curse could actually hurt someone like the car or the flower pot and I don't know if Akk has that in him, so I don't think he did those. (Secondary suspect) SPOILER FROM SPECIAL EP: Hal said they showed Akk throwing paint on The World Remember group's posters, so this seems at least partially correct.
Perhaps it's more than one person and they may or may not know about the other(s)? Someone doing the flyer burning which doesn't actually harm anybody vs someone willing to let the kids be hurt to send a message? Each doing it for a different purpose?
It's funny because none of my stuff is based on evidence (like that one post with the glimmer of the watch) but just like... hm, can I think of a motivation?
Anyway, I think I'll rewatch at least episode 3 (or maybe all 3) on Thursday before the next episode. I'll watch a different show in the meantime but one where I don't think I'll get extremely invested or that has a complex plot.

Dio the Invader
So first off don't know what I was expecting, only thing I've ever seen is the torture dance that floated around for awhile.
This show is serious to the point of hilarious. It is simultaneously gripping and I have to pause the god damn show I'm wheezing so hard kind of funny.
Jojo's life being absouletly ruined by this prick of a kid is actually kind of hard to watch. Is he spoiled? Yeah but he still doesn't deserve this. Dio is too just in a different arrogant ass way.
Also like Dio my bud you are focusing awful hard on this one guy to ruin. Like this would have been easier if he had just tried to get along. But he's like no I need to fuck up this one guy.
It was extremely cathartic to see him get his ass handed to him. Also the dog being killed I should have seen coming honestly but I didn't expect it from a temper tantrum of all things.
Dio is such a dramatic bitch and Jojo is just this spoiled kid with more brawn than brain. I think I would hate both of them in real life. Their is a time skip coming though so we'll see how I feel after.
Also the Erina getting her first kiss stolen by Dio made me cry laugh. It was just treated so seriously like yes their entire relationship will fall apart because Dio over here stole her first kiss. It was just so fucking funny. The forcing himself on her part? Uncomfy as fuck but the sheer hilarity of this is his entire plan to fuck them up after like intimidation and murder is just *chefs kiss*
So far Dio is my favorite part. I dislike him but this show would not be nearly as funny without him so far.
I think that's it for now.
I'm excited for episode two. I wanna see where these overdramatic bitches go from here.

I would die for Will Byers and that’s a FACT! I mean I feel that from the beginning, but ESPECIALLY after the almost-confession scene.
We all know Noah blows that scene out of the water with his acting, but shout out to Charlie for all of those microexpressions as Jonathan realizes that Will is talking about himself, not Jane, and Will’s feelings for Mike and I just- I love the magic of acting and storytelling, and also the bond between those siblings
God, first Jane goes through reawakening traumatic memories, THEN she finds out that her home phone isn’t working (ergo, something has to be wrong and her siblings & boyfriend are in danger) and almost simultaneously she figures out that her other friends are in danger PLUS one of her BEST FRIENDS is being targeted by 001. Awful Horrible BAD
Owens is not a perfect person by any means, but by god he’s trying. He’s the one that is standing up to B and INSISTING that Jane have a choice in her own fate. That doesn’t work out well for Owens at ALL, but he’s got the spirit.
I would also die for Argyle and that’s a FACT! I’d love to see him next season be treated more seriously and not as a 24/7 joke, thank you very much!
I already have complicated (mostly negative) feelings towards the military as it is, but I fucking HAAAAAATTTEEEEE the bastards in this show. The ones in season 4 are THE WORST, but so many terrible ones throughout the seasons.

Ok so… I was watching Loki right?
I noticed something that made me kinda sad… a lot of people probably noticed too but I wanted to point it out.
Loki watches 2018 Loki’s neck snap… but the tape keeps rolling.
Even a little after the ship explodes.
So that means he didn’t die until the explosion, and was either in an unholy amount of pain for those 20-ish seconds or was completely numb and unable to move but still aware of what was going on around him.
And, yes, there is a possibility that the person going around killing agents is 2018 Loki cause we already know it is a Loki but of it isn’t… that means his death was way more painful than we thought.
