Hanamaki Takihiro x GN! Reader
Based off of the Laurie and Jo Scene in Little Women
Summary: Sometimes first loves never work out
Content: Angst, pure angst
Tumblr media
From pirate ships, to being monarchs and warriors of old, you and Hanamaki Takahiro, were best friends.
He was the little boy who moved in next door, snot running down his nose, hands stained with dirt as he offered you a piece offering of roly polies and leaves.
You were the little kid who rolled around in the mud and terrorized the other kids by throwing sticks at them.
Needless to say you immediately became best friends. And menaces to your parents, the neighborhood kids and society in general.
You were together from the young ages of kindergarten, you were there to witness Hanamaki's awkward stage of puberty. You were there to witness him making other friends than you and lovers.
He was there when he saw you make other friends than him, dating a lot of people. He was there when you were scared of going to middle school, was there when you had anxiety over grades.
You were there for each other all the time, ups and downs, triumphs and trials.
So it was natural, that Hanamaki fell, completely and hopelessly;
In love with you.
Tumblr media
You're running in the grass, rolling around with Hanamaki laughing your asses off. You guys have just graduated highschool and the two of you, being the dumb bitches you are decide to skip the family party to celebrate your accomplishments.
“We’re adults now!” You yell, half skipping down the hill and eventually trip.
You pick yourself up and start screaming.
“I’M FREE FROM THIS GOD FORSAKEN TOWN! WE’RE FREE!”
Hanamaki laughs, “Yeah says the one who barely passed history.”
He grabs you by the arm and drags you through the flowers of the field and sets you down, all the while you giggle deliriously.
Usually Hanamaki would be laughing along, making stupid jokes about your laugh.
But he doesn’t.
And it scares you.
Before you even open your mouth to say anything, Hanamaki plops down beside you and thoughtfully asks,
“What are we going to do, [Name]? After here?”
The question sounded serious not like those ones where he asked you if he looked sexy for prom or if his crocs match the vibe of the weather that day.
You paused to take in the question.
“Well... I can’t really answer that Hiro Out of our whole friend group we’ve always been the floaters. The ones that never really know what we’re doing...”
Hanamaki turns his head around, baby hairs sticking onto his skin from the sweat of running. His eyes are looking at you, no they’re looking through you.
He breathes out a yes, like he’s been holding something from you. A secret he didn’t want to tell.
You turn away abruptly hoping he doesn’t see your slight change of attitude.
“Iwaizumi’s going to America, Mattsun is getting ready for college, and you know Oikawa is going over to Brazil to pursue volleyball.”
“I honestly don’t know Hiro. I get that we can’t be kids who run around more and throw dirt at each other,” you say laughing softly.
Hanamaki scoffs, “But you wish it was like that huh?”
You sit up and pick the grass from the ground and throw it randomly into the air.
“Of course! I still want to get a pirate ship and go and travel the world with you.”
Hanamaki raises his eyebrows, “And steal gold from random people?”
You smile cheekily, “Of course. Then we’ll build our chocolate empire, something that could rival Willy Wonka’s.”
Hanamaki stands up and puts his hand out to you.
You grab it, but why do you feel like the gesture is something much more than a friendly hand?
The two of you start walking, swinging your arms around as you joke about your chocolate factory, your pirate ships, the adventures you’re going to have.
The sun was setting, the long, green blades of grass turning yellow as you and Hanamaki run through them, creating scars and bumps on your skin.
You were going to miss highschool. You were going to miss groaning about exams and certain substitute teachers. Miss skipping classes with Mattsun and Makki to go get wasted with cheap alcohol.
You were going to miss Oikawa and his stupid smile and Iwaizumi and his stupid nicknames. You were going to miss crying with the 3rd years over lost volleyball games.
Hell, you were probably going to cry when Oikawa and Iwaizumi left to continue their lives. You might even cry when Mattsun goes to college even if he isn’t going overseas.
But at least you had Hanamaki. Your dearest friend. Though your relationship has gotten deeper and you were able to confide with each other, you were still the 2 children that fought other kids on the playground.
You could always, always rely on him. Because you never changed with each other.
“[Name]?”
You turn around and see Hanamaki. His eyes glowed with something.
And it was not of the setting sun.
“Yes?” You say, the sky turning darker as moments pass.
“I know we talk about us being adventurous and going with the flow... but I feel like we could do something more, you know?” he says it quietly, his thumb subconsciously rubbing yours.
You look up at him, “What do you mean? You just want to suddenly work a 9-5 job in a corporate company? We talked about this Hiro...”
He looks taken aback, “No no, that’s not what I meant [Name].”
Hanamaki gets quieter, “We could always be little kids, playing with swords and sticks. Together.”
You pause as Hanamaki looks up at your eyes. Together? You’ve always been together? Always.
Wait.
He couldn’t possibly mean.
You pull back from his grasp,
“No Hiro I can’t do that. Please no.”
You start walking away from him and he advances as he argues, trying to salvage something.
“[Name], no I love you and I have always loved you since we were little! I can’t imagine myself being with anyone else besides you!”
You walk faster and wrap your arms around yourself, “No, no, no. Hiro you’re being ridiculous.”
“Yes, YES!”
“No! We can’t!”
“[NAME]! COME BACK HERE LET ME SEE YOU!” Hanamaki says running towards you.
You spin around and stare at him, “We can’t work Hiro! I could never love you that way, and I would be lying, God I would be lying if I said that I did. Our whole life together we’re going to be pretending.”
He runs his fingers through his hair in frustration, “Why?! We were just talking about doing adventures together! Why is that any different than what I proposed!?”
You stomp your foot onto the ground, “Did you not just listen to me you dipshit? I could never love you romantically! Ever! I care for you, I worry for you but Hanamaki you are my friend. My closest friend. You are the one thing in my life that hasn’t changed so quickly and then you pull this shit?”
Hanamaki starts yelling now, “BUT I MAKE YOU HAPPY! AND YOU MAKE ME HAPPY! WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER SIDE BY SIDE, FOR YEARS [NAME]! YEARS! I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE TO TELL YOU I LOVE YOU!”
You start shaking your head, “No, don’t say that.”
Hanamaki starts rambling, “You always tell me that words and actions are your love languages-
“Stop.”
“And I’ve been doing it, [Name]. I have. I have been there for you, anywhere and-and-”
“Takihiro stop.”
“And I can’t feel like this anymore. I can’t let you slip through my fingers and watch you run away from me like everyone else has-”
“TAKIHIRO STOP IT!”
The only things that you could hear were the sounds of your breathing and the crickets in the grass.
“Takihiro, you’re being a child. You’re being stupid and ridiculous. Do not let the fantasies of a boy ruin your future,” you say sternly, begging for your tears to not fall onto the ground.
“You say that, [Name], and then run from everything that requires commitment,” he says sharply.
“You’re a coward, [Name]. You’re hurting me.”
Hanamaki is stepped away from you know and he starts walking away.
“My life has no meaning anymore-”
You scoff, “Takihiro your love for me isn’t worth your life!”
Hanamaki walks away and his voice is racked with sobs. Oh god he seriously does love you.
Why?
“Takihiro come back here!”
You’re running towards him now, grabbing his arm but he pushes away.
“Takihiro think with your brain! Just because we can’t be together the way you want doesn’t mean we have to sever all ties!” You say breathlessly.
“I mean think about it, we could have never worked. You hate the fact I don’t eat your favorite ice cream, you constantly like to go out and I like staying home.”
“I don’t care-”
“I hate meeting your other family members because they look down on me, my family members have always been skeptical of you-”
“I don’t care about that-”
“And we would be miserable, Takihiro. Absolutely miserable with one another-”
“No we wouldn’t,” he says stopping and grabbing your arm. Your noses were touching as his thin lips tried to connect with yours.
You pull away.
“Admit it Makki. We are better off as friends, not lovers,” you say finally.
“I’m ugly and I don’t care about my appearance like your other lovers do. I’m brutally honest with you and sometimes you cry about my opinion and-”
“I love you [Name].”
“I’m lazy and have no real goal in life, I have no foundation no, no rock or something. I don’t have a drive, Hiro! You’re going to be stuck with someone who doesn’t care.”
“I love you.”
“And you’re going to find someone else, a nice person, who likes eating your ice cream and dresses up. Who has a clear goal in life and someone your family will love-”
“No one could ever replace you, [Name]-”
You throw your hands up in frustration, “You’re mixing platonic and romantic feelings together and turning it into some big thing!”
“No, I’m not.”
“Yes you are.”
Silence surpasses you again and Hanamaki starts walking away.
You spoke up, “But-”
He turns around again and looks at you with hope. Hope for something more.
“That I don’t think I’ll ever be with someone romantically, Makki. I’ve gone years without.”
Hanamaki scoffs and starts to laugh cruelly,
“I don’t believe that, [Name]. You’re going to find someone, and you’re going to fall hard.”
You sneer, “How do you know?”
“I just do, you’re impossible to not fall in love with. You’re the sunshine in my life.”
“Takihiro don’t say that, please.”
He looks back at you, “But you are! You are my world, my-”
“LEAVE ME! OH MY GOD LEAVE ME!” You yell at him and turn away.
This was the 1st time Hanamaki hears you with that voice.
"[Name]-"
"JUST GO PLEASE-"
"YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE [NAME]!”
You spit out your words, “OH REALLY YOU THINK I WILL? ME? THE PERSON WHO TURNED YOU DOWN?!”
“YES! YES [NAME],” Hanamaki says.
“You’re going to fall in love with someone and you’re perfect, care free life will turn upside down and they’re going to love you. And you’re going to be perfect with each other-”
“HANAMAKI-”
“And I will watch. I will watch you grow and love this person. I will watch it happen because I still love you and I don’t think I’ll love anyone else.”
“And I will watch you, I will watch you [Name], and- and,”
You couldn’t bear to see his tears fall from his eyes, so you turn away.
“I will imagine that it could have been me and you-”
“Hanamaki please-”
“I don’t know what to do with myself but I will still take care of you and I truly love you, forever and-”
“Hanamaki-”
“I won’t ever stop, [Name]. Ever,” he says softly as he tries to reach out for your hand.
You pull away, your voice breaking.
“Hanamaki, go. I don’t want to see you right now,” you say softly.
You don’t have to turn around to see him crumble. You can feel it.
Because your heart was crumbling too.
“I’ll go... get back safe, [Name],” he adds.
You don’t say anything back, and hear the slow movements in the grass as your best friend walked away from you.
Forever.
The sky is dark, the stars seemed ashamed at your argument, and they don’t shine like they used to from years before.
You stayed in the grass, silent tears on your face as you shielded yourself from the cold with your arms.
You wanted to go home, but home wasn’t a place
It was a person. And his name was Hanamaki Takihiro.
But home loved you, and you didn’t love it back the way they wanted.
More tears flowed from your eyes at the sudden thought emerged from your eyes.
You had no home anymore.

22 for Kai and Remy :))) they deserve good things
Another one!!! Toby, thank you. They absolutely do deserve good things.
“Who’s Kai?” Remy’s history major friend! See this post.
This is from this list of sappy prompts! If you’d like to see one, I’m definitely still taking them!
22. “You make me so happy.”
Remy isn’t completely freaking out over his schoolwork. It’s just that he’s not having the greatest afternoon. And he guesses his schoolwork is maybe one of the causes.
The problem is that freaking out about your schoolwork is stupid, especially when that schoolwork is already done. Or mostly done. He took a huge midterm exam in his gen ed philosophy class on Thursday, and then turned in a long essay for The Reformation on Friday, and then spent all of today— Saturday— doing work for his other two classes, and that’s it; that’s all, he’s pretty much finished. The problem is that right now, it’s four PM on a Saturday, and his friends have texted him a number of times, and the only thing he can find the energy to do is sit on the edge of his bed and worry about his grades.
He doesn’t even know why he’s so stressed. The big assignments and tests have been submitted; he just has to wait for his fate now. He thinks maybe it’s because Professor Han gave him a 76 on the first philosophy exam earlier this semester, and because Professor Friedman is notoriously tough on his writing, which, really, when you think about it, is his own fault, because this is his second year of American college and he still can’t get his English to feel completely natural, because the universe hates him, but— but really, he’s fine. He didn’t sleep enough last night, and they lost their game yesterday, but he’s fine. He’s just not having a good day. Sometimes, bad days happen.
He taps both his feet on the floor. His dorm room is getting dark, because the sun sets so early, and he never bothered to turn the light on in here today to begin with. He needs to think about a million things— dinner, what he’s doing tonight, what assignments are on his radar next, how he can help to prevent such a nasty loss like the one last night from happening again.
But right now, he doesn’t want to think about any of that. Right now, he just wants to be in his room in the dark. He likes having a single this year; he can be alone with his thoughts a lot more. It makes for peace and quiet when he’s reading, that’s for sure. Francis was a decent roommate as far as freshman year roommates go, but Remy values solitude. The only problem is at times like this, when he starts zoning out and nobody’s there to pull him out of his head.
He’s fine. Really, he is.
When his phone pings, it makes him jump. It’s sitting face-up on the edge of his desk, so he can see the screen light up, a faint glow against the darkening room. At first, he isn’t going to pick it up. He wants to lay back and let the heap of stuffed animals on his mattress swallow him, and maybe fall asleep right there, and just sleep straight through to wake up tomorrow morning. Except that’s an impossible hope, because if he did do that, he’d inevitably wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to get back to sleep at all and be totally dead all day tomorrow.
His phone pings a second time, and he isn’t sure why, but something about that second ping makes him curious about what notification it carries. He gets up, crosses the small floor space of his single, and picks up the phone. The notifications are stacked in order of most to least recent.

are you coming to beech tonight
 Instagram — 1h ago
kairibou sent you a post!
The group chat lighting up is nothing new, and neither is Ben’s question about his plans for the night. He was with Ben, and Nando with him, earlier today— right up until lunch— and would probably still be with them if he hadn’t headed back for his room riding the homework excuse. The notifications from Kai are slightly more concerning, because they hit him with a pang of guilt. He doesn’t want to ignore xir. Or anybody, really.
He opens the Instagram notification first; xe sent him a meme about the Spanish Inquisition, which actually makes him laugh when he sees it. He likes xir message, then goes back over to the text thread. Even with one stupid meme, his shoulders feel a little less tight.
Me: Sorry
Me: I’m okay
Kai: Lol don’t be sorry
Kai: I was just wondering
Kai: What are you doing tonight?
Me: I don’t know
Me: I guess my team is probably hosting something at beech street
Me: But I don’t know that I’m up for it
Kai: Did something happen?
Kai: To you
Me: No, I’m okay
Me: I’m just not feeling it
Something funny happens, then, and Remy sinks into his desk chair as it happens. He watches Kai start typing, and then stop typing, and then start again, and repeat the cycle at least three times. He laughs at his phone screen again. The tension eases further.
Finally, there’s another text.
Kai: Where are you right now?
Me: I’m in my room
Me: Why?
Kai: Just wondering
Me: Uh… okay
Xe stops texting after that. Remy watches the screen for xir typing bubble to appear, but it doesn’t. Xe leaves him on read, which is fine. Remy has never been the kind of person to get weird about texting times or getting left on read, since he is one of the worst culprits when it comes to forgetting to reply. He has no idea what Kai is up to, but at least now xe knows he’s not having any major crisis.
Because he really isn’t having a major crisis. This is just normal college stress. Sometimes it happens.
And… okay. It’s true. He really doesn’t want to get another bad grade. But does anybody ever want that?
He walks back over to his bed, and grabs Nagini, his beloved weighted snake, from the stuffed animal pile. He drapes her around his neck like a scarf, then leans back into the pile, just the way he imagined doing, and feels the welcome embrace of a bunch of small, plush, inanimate friends.
Maybe he should go over to Kai’s apartment. He would really love to see Leonardo, the lizard xe’s not supposed to have in the dorms. But then again, that would require a lot of getting up and getting dressed and getting motivated that Remy cannot find in him right now.
So he’ll lay here. With Nagini and his other friends. In the dark. And that’ll be okay. If he winds up napping and waking up in the middle of the night, well… that’s a bridge he’ll cross when he gets to it.
He even closes his eyes. He’s not sure how long it is before it happens, but when the knock comes at the door, he’s definitely not sleeping. He knows he’s not sleeping because it makes him jump, and he sits up halfway in bed.
Knock, knock. It happens again, as he runs through the list of possible culprits. It’s definitely not the RA on his floor, because there was no chipper little res life! announcement that accompanied the knock. And he isn’t really on knock-on-the-door basis with any of his neighbors. He’s pretty sure it’s Kai. Then again, there’s an equal chance it could be Ben or Nando or even both of them at once.
There’s only one way to find out. He gets up, leaves Nagini on the bed, and pulls the door open a crack.
His visitor has purple hair, and is holding a small paper bag in one hand, with a disposable travel cup in the other. “Hi,” he says, in English, and then, in French, adds, “Are you about to kidnap me?”
“No.” Kai’s grin is gentle, and xe replies in French, because xe has never been anything but patient with his slow English brain. “But it would be cool if you let me in.”
“Oh.” He immediately feels stupid, because he should have realized that, and pulls the door all the way open for xir. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry.” Kai slides xir shoes off at the door. They’re lavender high tops that almost match the color of xir hair, but not quite. In general, purple is a necessary part of Kai’s aesthetic. Remy got xir a purple mug with lizards on it this past Christmas.
Kai is quiet for a second, as the door shuts itself behind xir. There’s something in xir expression that lets Remy know he’s about to be interrogated, before it even happens. Xe folds xir arms, and tips xir head to the side. Remy figures maybe he can beat xir to it, and answer the question before xe asks. “I’m okay,” he assures xir, and hopes he sounds convincing.
Kai doesn’t look like xe believes him. “Have you been locked in here all day in the dark?”
“No,” Remy lies, and then Kai turns on the light. He winces, and sits back onto his mattress. “A little warning next time?”
“Sorry.” Kai walks over to sit down next to him, and hands him the paper bag and cup. “But these are for you.”
“What?” He pauses, as xe forces the items upon him. The bag is light, but there’s definitely something inside— food, for sure. And the cup is warm, like it’s home to a hot drink. He meets Kai’s eyes. “Why?”
“Because I’m not stupid,” Kai laughs. Xe rubs his shoulder, gently, and adds, “You’re having a weird day. I thought you could use, like… a pick-me-up?”
“You didn’t have to—” He sniffs the drink; it’s hot chocolate. “You really didn’t have to do that.”
“Well, I wanted to.” Kai is still gentle, as a small silence settles over both of them. Remy peeks into the bag. It’s a croissant, a chocolate one, and both of these items no doubt came from the café on campus. He inhales, and when he lets out his breath, Kai speaks again. Xir voice is a lot quieter this time. “Are you okay?”
Remy hesitates, which is the first mistake you always make when you’re trying to convince someone you’re okay. But then again, says his subconscious, within that brief hesitation, why bother? Why try to fake it? Kai knows him well. Xe’s one of his best friends. And he has a feeling xe wouldn’t be bringing food randomly to his dorm if xe didn’t have some reason for it. The reason, in this case, being that xe obviously expects him to reply with a no to xir question.
So he sighs, then remarks, “I’m just having a day.”
“Having a day is okay.” Kai pauses. “That’s… kind of what I figured. It’s why I’m here.”
“Sorry,” he blurts, because the guilt washes stronger over him now. It’s a Saturday, and Kai could be doing any number of fun things, and xe’s in his dorm feeling sorry for him when he’s just being dramatic about some schoolwork.
“Why are you sorry?” xe replies.
“I didn’t mean to, uh— concern you?” He winces at himself, and looks up to meet xir eyes. “Or, like— make you interrupt your day for me—”
“Rem,” Kai mumbles. There’s sincerity— and warmth— in xir eyes. “There’s literally nothing you have to apologize for. This is what friends are for.”
And Remy knows this. But he’s so overwhelmed with gratitude in this moment that it feels like new information. “Thank you,” he says. “For, uh— the food. And for coming.”
“You’re welcome on both,” xe says. “And it’s white hot chocolate, by the way.”
Remy laughs into the lid of the warm drink. “You make me so happy.”
Kai’s smiling, and xe shrugs. “Like I said,” xe says. “What are friends for.”
He takes a long sip from the cup; xe’s right. It’s white hot chocolate. And it tastes like a warm hug. Little by little, he thinks he’s going to have a good night.
“C’mon,” Kai says, after they sit there a moment, as if xe can read his mind. “Let’s watch something. I’m here to stick around.”
Remy smiles. “Okay.”
Before they do, he texts Ben.
Me: I’m staying in tonight, but I’ll see you at breakfast?
Ben: good deal
Ben: love you
Me: Love you too
With Kai, he winds up in a pile on his bed. They perch his laptop at the edge of the covers, pull up Game of Thrones, and use the duvet as a way to achieve maximum cozy. Remy puts Nagini around his neck again. Kai is a lot smaller than he is, and xe huddles into his shoulder. Xe’s warm, and xir hair smells like lavender, and xe’s always a good cuddle.
“You should have brought Leonardo,” he tells xir, pulling his arm around xir shoulders.
“Aw,” Kai mutters. “He must be so lonely in my room. We can go there next time.”
“Yes,” he whispers, to the ceiling. Kai’s lizard is really the best.
“I know you like him more than you like me,” xe adds, as xe’s pushing play on the laptop.
“Well,” Remy remarks, not really able to stop smiling. “At least you know.”
Kai laughs as xe falls back into their blanket cocoon. “You’re an asshole,” xe remarks, and Remy grins wider, because he knows.
Safe, warm, and cozy, that’s how he spends the rest of his Saturday night. He wouldn’t change much of anything, not for the world.

These are great questions, anon! I’m going to have fun answering them >:)
37- What is your ideal bed? Why?
Usually it’s pretty chilly where I am, so I have two blankets. One fluffy thin blanket, that feels like my cat’s fur, and another horrifically thick duvet on top. I love drowning in my blankets :’)
In summer, I usually just have a thin sheet, or nothing at all. Summer nights are too balmy for a covering…
110- Say 5 facts about your best friend(s)
If you know me, you’ll know that I love my friends to ABOMINABLY HIGH LEVELS. LIKE, MT EVEREST ALTITUDES.  Sometimes I lie awake at night and randomly think about them and start smiling like a strange wolf, haha… I really do love them to absolute bits and pieces :’D
In no particular order!
1. Three of them are lactose intolerant. Two of them can have small amounts of dairy in foods every day, and the other can’t have any dairy at all, otherwise she’ll get violently sick.
One day, we made… biscuits, I think? for food tech, and she was stuffing about five of them into her mouth.
After about a minute, we both realised what she was eating.
To this day, I’ve never seen a girl Naruto-run so fast out of a classroom like she did…
2. One of my friends is Bangla, but she hates fish. All fish. Every. Single. Type. Of fish.
Even smoked salmon.
She disappoints me every day.
3. One of them is my partner for all the sciences, and whenever she goes about making her jokes and innuendos and whatever, she giggles and whispers SO LOUDLY OMG. SHE’S SO SO CUTE, BUT WHENEVER WE TELL HER THAT SHE’S WHISPERING TOO LOUDLY SHE ALWAYS DENIES IT. SHE’S SO GODDAMN CUTE AND AN ABSOLUTE DOOFUS!! SHE CARRIES CLASS DISCUSSIONS LIKE AN ABSOLUTE WARRIOR BUT THEN THE NEXT MINUTE SHE GOES ‘HEY GUESS WHAT, CHEMISTS DO IT ON THE TABLE PERIODICALLY’ AND THEY’RE ALWAYS SO BAD BUT WE CAN’T STOP LAUGHING BECAUSE THE JOKES ARE THAT BAD AND SHE PROBABLY GOT THEM OFF FECKIN GOOGLE!!
4. One of them brings sweets absolutely everywhere.
Once, in the morning, I witnessed her stuffing about seven strawberry laces into her mouth. She looked at me, smiled, and stuffed some blue stuff into her mouth, too.
I don’t even know what the blue stuff is, but I will forever thank her for being my sweets supply wherever I go.
5. One of them gives the best hugs. just. omg. She’s quite a bit taller than me and she’s so so cuddly, and whenever she sees me (or any of our friends!) she does this Olympic athlete sprint towards me and gives such a warm and tight and long hug and it’s AMAZING I KID YOU NOT I LOVE HER TO PIECES
Aw, I wanted to gush for longer! ;–;
111- The last person you hugged?
No. 5 above, after English on Friday! Honestly, though, I hug a lot of people every day - at least 10, I’d say, so this question was pretty hard to answer. :’)
226- Share the story of something that makes you smile
MY BRONZE DOFE EXPEDITION LAST YEAR, HANDS DOWN.
For context, I was with a group of 7. All of them are my close friends, and we were all pretty enthusiastic about the expedition. :’D
Mind if I make a list? The entire expedition is a whole story by itself, and I won’t do it justice if I make it short!
(Under the cut because this got long!)
I was in charge of bringing the matches. I FORGOT TO BRING THE GODDAMN MATCHES
You know the friend from above - my ever-faithful sweet supplier? As a joke, we all told her she should bring as many fizzy drinks as she could carry.
She brought a 12-pack of Monster. And an entire loaf of bread.
Traipsing around in the British countryside is super fun!
Until you realise that you have no flippin clue where you are, and an angry farmer is driving at you with epic deadly intent in those little golf-cart vehicles that farmers magically seem to have (and probably with pitchfork in hand, too…. hsdfajgfh he was… an Experience)
I read the map upside down. (I still hate myself for this)
Most of the time we were looking at awe at the countryside scenery.
ALL THE OTHER TIMES WE WERE SWEARING LOUDLY AT THE MUD. IMAGINE A GAGGLE OF SPOTTY TEENAGERS CRAWLING THROUGH MUD ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, SPITTING AND SWEARING AT THE GROUND
Petting all the horses! THEY WERE SO CUTE.
I led my team through a thicket of brambles. They were really painful!
Until I realised that I led them in the wrong direction.
WE WERE CHASED BY ALPACAS. EVERYONE RAN, BUT I DIDN’T, BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE FUCKING HORSES
(We jumped a fence to escape. I don’t even know whose field we ended up in-)
At one point, we were so lost that we ended up going off the map.
(At that point, we all sighed, threw down our rucksacks and proceeded to munch on Doritos, because, logic.)
At about sunset, we ended up on a motorway.
Obviously, logic dictates that you’d get off the motorway and find a safer place to read the map again, right?
WRONG.
WE WALKED ALONG THE FUCKING MOTORWAY.
PLEASE DON’T DO THIS. IT WAS SO STUPID AND DANGEROUS AND TO THIS DAY I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE WE DID THAT
It was getting super super dark, and we still hadn’t reached the campsite, and we heard a man’s voice behind us?? And we were very frightened???
It was actually a really sweet Chinese couple who asked us if we were okay! (I love them sm, they were so so kind)
We wanted to get to the campsite at 3pm. We got there at 10pm.
We made smores at camp, and did that thing where you twirl the stick around in the air and watch the flame trail it leaves behind. Our campsite was next to a lake of sorts, and lemme tell you that having smores and laughing around a campfire with your close friends and the most wondeful scenery ever is so, so beautiful.
All 7 of us (and another who joined because, reasons!) squashed up in one tent, instead of the two we were supposed to, because, friendship.
Y’see, 8 people is definitely too much for one tent. But we made it work!
(I was laying diagonally across 4 people, squashed on top of @kokoscrazyblog ‘s stomach. She repeatedly told me to get off, but I said something along the lines of ‘hhhrrrrghghghghh no, I Warm Am…’)
(Two people were crouched at the tent entrance, munching crisps all night long. I kid you not, I woke up halfway through the night, and saw them in quiet conversation, stuffing their faces like goddamn hamsters)
At one point, my friend screamed, because I was sleeping with my eyes open, and my head was tilted nearly 90 degrees in her direction. (She called me traumatising and satanic. :( )
At another point, I dimly registered the soft pit-pattering of rain on the tent ceiling. Obviously, I told my friends to watch out for the rain whenever they wanted to go to the toilet at night.
In the morning, my friends looked at me weirdly. Koko informed me, later, that I had actually told them that ‘it was raining eggs… Watch out for the eggs…..’
I tried to toast bread with a trangia, Everyone laughed at me. :(
Near the end of our expedition, we all picked up walking sticks, and pretended we were all Gandalf. (It was GOOD)
Honestly, I think I’ve forgotten so many things, but DofE was something I enjoyed immensely, and the entire experience was so amazing that I’ll never forget it :’) Doing it with the right people is key! Ahh, I want to go back now…
253- One thing you’re excited for: :D
SUMMER! I’ve got so many things planned!
First, straight after my last exam, my friends and I are going to watch Incredibles 2, eat a lot of popcorn, and then find a park and bask in the content feeling of friendship. And no more exams. And summer, in general.
In summer, I’m hoping to have a ton of movie marathons (Harry Potter, LotR, every Bollywood classic there is, STUDIO GHIBLI and much more!) Probably a Mario Kart party, and if SSB5 is out by then, I’ll have a Smash party, too :D
Starting Gold DofE! That’s a very big thing.
The Challenge will take up three weeks by itself. I don’t know if I’m going on holiday (probably not), but yeah - summer should be amazing.
Thank you for the questions, anon! I had tons of fun thinking up answers for these :’)
send me a number and I’ll answer it!
