A Golden Lovers Timeline
PART 19: STRONG STYLE EVOLVED
okay two last things about the confrontation in the locker room (Feb 2018 - LINK) before we move on:
The lovers have a brief conversation in Japanese that ends with Kenny saying “shall we go home?” and Kota replying “let’s head home” (mithen translation LINK)
And THEN. (and i have absolutely nothing to say about this do not speak to me about it.) the scene ends with the camera zooming in on the open closet behind the lovers
ANYWAY.
after the confrontation with the bucks, Kenny goes to the states for a bit (we’ll get to his misadventures there in a later part) leaving Kota all alone in Japan where he competes in the New Japan Cup (March 9-21, 2018)
when njpw does tournaments they divide the tournament matches up so that half of them happen every other night. during the wrestler’s “off” night they do a multi-man tag match against their next opponent, and then the next night they have their singles match
and what that means is that Kota’s in need of some tag team partners!!!
and so begins a time I like to call Kota and the In-Laws.
Before reuniting with Kenny, Kota had been tagging with the loosely aligned collection of babyfaces that sometimes call themselves Taguchi Japan, but now that he and Kenny have renewed their vows, NJPW has started booking him with Bullet Club
Kota finds this very confusing
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: Kota in post match comments. A reporter asks “What about your thoughts on tagging with Bullet Club?” and Kota says “I don’t even know, I may be one of them... Did I end up joining Bullet Club after partnering with Kenny? I’m still listed as neutral, right?” End ID. LINK]
it’s honestly the best, because the BC members who are in Japan for the Cup aren’t any of the BTE guys, they’re all the Tongan faction (Bad Luck Fale, Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Yujiro) who have stayed out of the Cody/Kenny feud up to this point. they don’t really know Cody bc he’s new to njpw, and their relationship with Kenny is uh.. complicated at best. they respect him for his skill as a wrestler, but they’re all too aware that Kenny doesn’t respect them or the bullet club as a whole.
but njpw books them as Kota’s teammates for this tour, and even tho he’s literally no one to them, just the husband of the boss who just got coup-ed, and even tho they’re also pretty confused about this booking, they take the responsibility seriously.
during this whole tour whenever they tag with Kota all of the bullet club comes out to Kota’s music instead of their own and they always invite him to join the two sweet even tho Kota always refuses
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: three gifs. Tanga Loa and Yujiro are doing the two sweet while Kota looks at them. They invite Kota to join but he kind of makes a ‘no you go ahead’ gesture and takes a step back. in the next gifs he shakes Yujiro and Tanga Loa’s hands. Yujiro is friendly and amused, Tanga Loa is uncertain but not unfriendly. End ID. LINK]
it becomes a running gag during the tour
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of a match, a BC member puts up his hand for the Two Sweet gesture, Kota cheerfully high fives it. End ID. LINK]
We hear from David Finlay that Kota is even spending time with BC outside of the ring, hanging out in their locker room and going out with them after shows
During one match when Finlay is on commentary we get this nice moment:
Kevin Kelly: “If you'd have told [Kota] three months ago, 'hey you're going to be teaming with bullet club' he'd have looked at you like you had horns growing out of your head.”
Finlay: “Well he might have been happy tho!”
Kevin: “Because that would mean that he'd have reunited with Kenny?”
Finlay: “Yeah, so I think a little piece of him would be like "yeah, i hope so."”
Then a little later we get Bad Luck Fale on commentary and he’s just super chill and understanding about Kota being kind of confused about this whole situation. He makes it clear that whether or not Kota is a BC member isn’t something that has to be figured out rn, and when Kevin points out that Kota doesn’t seem interested in taking part in BC-esq activities like cheating, Fale just replies "He's still probably trying to figure out what's going on himself."
It’s just this really lovely time where Kota is completely and utterly himself, not making any special effort to be accepted by BC at all, and yet this collection of heels who could have made the tour about their issues with Kenny, instead look at Kota and go “well i guess we just? Adopt him? idk?” and never look back.
And this takes us all the way to the end of march.
The bucks have been building up to the GL vs YB match in the meantime, making it clear that Nick is worried and uncomfortable with fighting Kenny, not sure if he can even hurt his friend (Nick Jackson!!! Professional monster boy!!! Unsure!!! If he can cause harm!!! Because of how much he loves Kenny!!!!!), and Matt is just bleeding feelings everywhere
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: screenshots of BTE. Matt sits with his young daughter and son at their house. Matt: “Do you know who daddy's wrestling this weekend?” Daughter: “Uh huh, who are you wrestling?” Matt: “Actually, I'm wrestling Kenny.” Daughter: “That's not cool, isn't he your friend?” Matt: “Yeah, actually. Actually, yeah... Kenny's my good friend, but sometimes-” Son: “Uncle Kenny?” Matt: “Sometimes you have to wrestle your friends and sometimes you have to wrestle your family. Maybe at the end of the whole thing we’ll love each other even more.” End ID. LINK]
in the BTE episode for the SSE show [LINK] we see that Kenny watched NJPW’s interview with the bucks (where Matt admits to feeling jealous of Kota LINK), we see him looking at the two golden wings on his new gear just as the interviewer asks “Kenny and Kota Ibushi’s relationship right now, do you think they're too close?”
Tumblr media
Speaking of his new gear!!! Kenny has this gear made in his old DDT colors: green, orange, and gold. On the butt are two full golden wings, and between the wings are a golden omega symbol with a golden star inside it. “G” and “L” are written on his kneepads. A lone feather is attached to his right hip, and below that it says “best bout machine”
Tumblr media
seeing Kenny with two wings again...yeah.
finally, just before the show Cody gives all the BTE guys these belts with their names on them. i guess they’re like weight-lifting belts? Matt makes a comment about crossfit idk, but for the purposes of this story they’re a symbol of alliance with Cody, and Nick hates them and does not wear his.
Tumblr media
[ID: screenshot of BTE episode. Matt has his Cody belt over his shoulder, Nick looks down at his own belt with distaste. End ID. LINK]
and now it’s time for The Saddest Match Ever
Strong Style Evolved - March 25th, 2018 [Official LINK, Unofficial LINK]
The GL vs YB match is the main event of Strong Style Evolved, NJPW’s show in Long Beach, CA, and the match that they put on is complex and unique
there’s no heel or face alignments here, and half of the participants (Kenny and Nick) desperately do not even want to be here doing this. Kenny and Nick’s horror at the prospect of hurting their friend
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kota stamping on a prone Matt’s back and Kenny rushes into the ring and pushes Kota away from him. End ID]
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Nick super kicking Kenny out of mid-air. after Kenny falls to the ground Nick just sits for a minute, with a thousand yard stare. End ID]
combined with Matt’s desperation to both hurt and be hurt
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kenny stamping on a prone Matt. Matt yells at him “that feel good, Kenny?” End ID]
is extremely painful to witness
(And meanwhile the whole time poor Kota Ibushi is just Trying To Have A Match, like he’s just trying to do some wrestling here and everyone else is being so weird about it)
Kenny and Nick have to be won over to participate in the violence of the match, both of them really only finding the stomach for it after seeing their partner being hurt, but there’s never a moment when hurting their friend becomes easy for them
Tumblr media
[ID: Kenny drops Matt’s back over his knee, his face own face twisted with misery. He pushes Matt off him and just sort of sinks down and stares at the ground. End ID]
theoretically this match is about finding out which team is the best in the world, but even though the bucks lose, it’s so clear that it’s not because the GLs were “better.” it’s because Matt Jackson is emotionally and physically compromised
his back hampers him throughout, made worse by the GLs’ targeted attacks, and it gets to a point where he can’t even do most of the YBs’ moveset without help
but he’s never really focused on winning. matt’s focus is always on hurting Kenny and Kota (not beating them, inflicting pain and insult), and making Kenny hurt him back.
because the pain that Matt’s feeling would be so much easier to bear if he knew for sure that Kenny doesn’t love him. It’s the lingering hope, the fear and uncertainty, that make it so unbearable. so he wants Kenny to put an end to any doubt.
again and again in this match Matt lets the worst parts of his heart direct his actions, and through it all Kenny loves him.
Kenny has failed to be a good friend to Matt recently, he has taken the bucks for granted, he has failed to treat them as his equals, but in this match, when Matt is testing him, when Matt is demanding cruelty from him
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: three gifs. in the first matt uses the belt that Cody gives him to whip Kenny’s back, while kenny kneels on the mat. in the second Kenny is now standing and it’s matt who is on the ground. Kenny picks up Matt’s belt and looks at it. in the third Kenny stands before Matt with the belt and throws it away. End ID]
Kenny refuses.
he hurts Matt but he never crosses that line. and every time he refuses, every time he hesitates, you can see that it’s almost worse for Matt than if Kenny had just done it, because it proves over and over that Kenny does care about him.
the truth that Kenny loves the young bucks genuinely but imperfectly, loves them, but not enough to give up Kota for them, almost feels worse than if Kenny had never loved them at all. because at least if Kenny never loved them Matt would have the cold comfort of his own righteous anger. at least if Kenny never loved them, this pain could be over. this could be simple. he could cut Kenny off and try to move on. but because Kenny loves them, that means it’s possible to fix this, and that truth is so much harder to face
when Kenny finally pins Matt, he doesn’t let go after the three count.
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of the GLs laying on top of Matt for the pin, after the count Kota slides off them but Kenny just clutches Matt closer, crying. End ID]
he just holds Matt and cries. he just loves him.
and he doesn’t ask anything from him. after winning, Kenny leaves the ring without reaching out to the bucks again.
but the events of the night aren’t over yet.
after the lovers leave, Cody comes to the ring and starts yelling at Matt for losing, and when Nick tries to intervene...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID: two gifs. In the first Cody turns towards Nick and shoves him to the ground, a perfect mirror of Kenny doing the same thing to Matt at New Beginning. In the second Cody aggressively removes his jacket. End ID]
It’s a perfect, deliberate parallel of the events of the Golden Lovers’ reunion, except that Kenny was shocked and horrified to discover he had pushed Matt, and Cody is ready for more
But just like New Beginning, matt and nick are saved by a run-in from someone who loves them.
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Cody seeing Kenny coming and starting to back away, while Matt holds his brother and sinks down to sit on the mat beside him. End ID]
Kenny chases Cody off and then he offers the bucks his hand, just like Kota reached out to him. Nick accepts
Tumblr media
and Matt doesn’t
Tumblr media
[ID: two gifs, Kenny offering his hand to Nick who takes it and gets pulled up. in the second Kenny offers his hand to Matt while Nick looks on. Matt looks at the hand and then at Kenny and turns away. End ID]
Matt can’t let it go. Not yet. Not in the immediate aftermath of a match like that.
And you can see his refusal break Kenny and Nick’s hearts
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Kenny and Nick reacting to Matt turning away from Kenny. Both are crying and devastated. End ID]
but where Matt goes, Nick follows
Tumblr media
[ID: gif of Nick leaving the ring following Matt while Matt and Kenny look on. End ID]
but even tho this night didn’t end with the Elite’s reunion, something has shifted. Matt’s not ready to forgive Kenny, but he’s seen the care and love that Kenny has for him
and he’s gotten his first glimpse of Cody’s true face

Things I Learned About Hangman Adam Page Today:
He recently bought a pair of caiman leather boots
He is a frugal son of a bitch but like for good reason bc you never know when your luck is gonna run out
His son keeps him up and his wife up all the time which means he only gets good rest in his hotel room when he has to be somewhere for a dynamite show
He is just as frustrated as we are at the fact that he wasn’t able to wrestle this whole time when he should’ve been a fighting champion
Either Renee put the cowprint idea in his head or she fucking guessed correctly (that little open mouthed gape/smile Hangy gave when she said it could be either but god fucking bless)
He used to have really bad diagnosed anxiety like the dude would go full-on sweat mode but wrestling helped him get over a lot of those issues. He still has bad social anxiety though
New setting for Hangman fics: treehouse in a cow pasture on his dad’s farm
The belt is super fucking heavy and Renee knows this which means she’s tried picking it up before when Mox was champ g!rl help me
He really adores the fan art and the videos and stuff that people make for him. He thinks that’s top tier level shit
Merle Haggard is one of his favorite old country singers
He had a small attack realising he was letting us down by not dishing out what romantic things he’s done for his wife like he said “what is wrong with me” and then said something like “sometimes the most romantic things are the little gestures, like waking up in the middle of the night and trying to give the baby the bottle for an hour” nice save cowboy you’re a fucking mess i love you
His self worth is really tied to the championship because Renee asked him who between Kenny and Bryan was the best in the world and he said it was a tough one but since neither has the championship he’d have to say himself and yowie wowie i am not prepared for those self esteem issues to bite him in the ass again but glad to know he feels good about himself for now
He has no clue who the person on the graphics team is that is writing his lower thirds but he’s tried to put snitches in the production truck to no avail. He treats this like a feud so something tells me he missed the lower third at Full Gear this year where it said “we’re proud of you - graphics team” and personally i think he needs to plant one of his former students on the team (since they ARE hiring)
He wanted to have a feud with Brodie and that’s why he gave us those little bits on BTE with him and when Brodie passed he felt it was a disservice to him to not continue going with it in the most organic way possible, and while he didn’t say this next part, I can only surmise that’s why him and the Dark Order continued to have segments with each other and became each other’s support after Brodie passed
He does not appreciate people coming up to him at the airport and in hotels. Please leave him alone. A hotel is like his front doorstep, he treats his hotel room like his home for the night and no he doesn’t want you trespassing on his front porch
He lied about not doing interviews anymore now that he’s champ
Link for the full interview in the source! Those were my own main takeaways but I’m sure I missed a few things. I just adore this man so much and I’m glad he did an interview with Renee, she always asks the questions I want to hear the answers to.

Hey as the Number One Hangman Fan have you noticed that they're building Hangman's confidence back up from one PPV to the next? At Revolution he accepted that he has friends that genuinely care for him. At DoN he was confident that he could fight the opposition by himself (+he was a direct mirror of Team Taz, with Cage realizing it and rejecting his team). I like to think at the next ones the whole drinking this is gonna be addressed. But that by itself is already really cool. What do you think?
oh gosh, number one hangman fan??? I am not worthy 😭 BUT! YEAH! YEAH I HAVE NOTICED!!!! the promo he cut on brian cage before double or nothing had me extremely curious, because he said that he could accept it if he lost, which normally isn’t a very hangman-like thing. as for the alcohol, I almost wonder if they’re going to transition it to a “it’s okay to drink here and there, but not to use it as a crutch or to bury your emotions” or if they may never actually outright address it, but do so in the way they’ve been slowly doing this far (him seeming to be happier, occasionally sharing his booze with his opponents or with someone else so he isn’t drinking alone, etc)
I’ve been super invested in watching the slow growth of his story from losing to kenny to where we are now. he still hasn’t properly dealt with his past issues (such as when he was asked about the bucks turning on mox to join kenny and he got obviously uncomfortable, drank, and made a distraction/excuse to leave and then never actually came back according to bte that followed the aftermath of that segment) and he still won’t agree to be IN a group because I don’t think he’s ready to face those trust issues that came from being a part of the bc/the elite and what happened from the fallout. his current confidence and the way they’re building it is such a fantastic change and honestly refreshing, as deep and angsty as his story can be and how intriguing that is to watch, it can be exhausting to see it go from bad to worse week by week, so it’s nice to root for him as he starts to do better, because at the end of the day, we want a confident, ass kicker of a cowboy that we KNOW he can be.
I’m curious where his next avenue will be. what his next struggles will come from, if he’ll be confronted by his past in any way and have to face it, or if he’ll be able to continue to dodge it until he inevitably faces kenny (if the plan is to still have him face kenny for the belt, which I’m assuming it is).
I don’t know!!!!! basically I’m excited, none of what’s happening is anything I had predicted and that’s honestly what I love so much about it, and why I’m always willing to give any story angle a chance even if it’s not something I would have done or picked myself to happen. but hangmans current build-up of confidence, being 13-1 (or is he now 14-1 after don?), beating brian cage on his own merit and proving that he WAS right - that he could beat brian cage 1v1 without the interference of team taz - is just all so exciting to watch how his character develops from all of that?
BASICALLY long answer short YEAH I’m super excited and I’m also excited other people are noticing and I can’t wait to see what’s next!!!!!!!!

Matt Jackson Narrative Headcanon
Only for you, @what-does-mine-say.
I was gonna write something super snarky and sarcastic here, but no joke - this one gave me A LOT of trouble. And to be honest, I’m worried it’s not any good. I’m probably being too hard on myself, but my main goal is always to put out quality content. So all I can say is that I genuinely hope you all enjoy my effort.
Find more of my headcanons here.

> You’d never liked Matt Jackson, not from the day you met him. His cocky attitude; his headstrong nature; his holier-than-thou demeanor; his stupid fucking ring gear. He just rubbed you the wrong way, in every way possible. Good thing you only ever saw him a few times a year.
> But then you signed with AEW. And suddenly, Matt Jackson wasn’t just a colleague that you couldn’t stand. He was a boss that you couldn’t stand - and you had to deal with him every. Single. Week.
> At first, you tried to work with him; you really did. But he just had this way of irking you to no end. Every interaction you had, every time he spoke to or even looked at you, he just came off so haughty. There was only so much of it you could take, and eventually you decided that you’d rather just avoid him. If you had business to conduct, you’d do it with one of the other EVPs.
> Enter Nick Jackson. Unlike his brother, you’d always liked Nick. He was nice; an actual good Christian boy. He made a point to say hi to you, ask you how you were doing, if you had any ideas or opinions or concerns. And, without realizing it, you became friends with him. Which suddenly made it a lot harder to avoid Matt.
> It wasn’t just that Nick was always with Matt. It was that he knew you couldn’t stand his brother - and he wanted to fix it. So he started putting you in situations where you had no choice but to interact with Matt. He’d invite you to sit with them in catering. Ask your opinion when they were brainstorming bits for BTE. Do whatever he could to get you two to talk. It was annoying, and one day you got fed up enough that you asked him why he was trying so hard to get you to be friends with his brother.
> “Because,” he said. “You two are actually a lot alike.” It stunned and confused you, and you had no idea how to take it.
> After that, Nick backed off. But you suddenly found yourself paying more attention to Matt. Not because you wanted to see if Nick was right - but because you wanted to prove him wrong. You were nothing like Matt fucking Jackson. Never mind that he loved pro wrestling with a passion. Never mind that he took tremendous pride in his work. Never mind that he would do anything for his friends and family. Never mind that he had that deadpan sense of humor...
> Shit. Maybe, when it came down to it, you were a lot like Matt Jackson.
> Weeks went by, and you all but forgot about your Matt Jackson dilemma. You both, for the most part, took to ignoring each other. And then one day before Dynamite, something happened.
> You were practicing in the ring, trying to learn a new move. You couldn’t get the hang of it, and it was frustrating you. Unexpectedly, Matt showed up. He offered to show you another way to do it. You agreed; even though he set you on-edge, you respected his ability in the ring. And after he showed you the technique, you got it on the first try. You’d thanked him, genuinely grateful; but he’d just nodded, said “No problem,” and walked away. Just as aloof as ever.
> It bothered you. But not in the way Matt had bothered you before. It didn’t anger you or frustrate you - it hurt you. And suddenly you realized: all you’d wanted, all this time, was just for him to see you.
> So, after the show, you worked up the courage and confronted him. You asked him right to his face, “What is your problem with me?”
> His answer? “I don’t have a problem with you. You just make me nervous.”
> You didn’t sleep very well that night, Matt’s words turning over in your head, their implication keeping you up. By the time you drifted, too exhausted to think anymore, you’d reached one conclusion: maybe, all this time, you hadn’t liked him because he made you nervous, too.
> As you packed the next morning, exhausted and still thinking of Matt, there was a knock at your door. Confused, you peered through the peep-hole. It was him. You panicked. Why was he there? What did he want? You probably looked like a zombie. You hurried in the bathroom and made sure you looked halfway decent - and then you opened the door. He didn’t smile, but he didn’t look aloof like he normally did. He looked nervous; vulnerable. And then he asked, “Hey. Um, do you want to go get coffee?”
> And you smiled and said, “Yeah. I’d like that.”

One
 "Page!"
Adam looked up from his laptop, surprised to see Britt making her way to him. Not that her finding him for a chat was unusual. She rarely looked so excited, though. He stretched his leg to push out the chair next to him, smiling faintly when she flopped down. "What's up?"
"We're having a couple friends over this weekend. Nothing fancy. Just throwing some steaks on the grill and hanging out. You'll come, won't you?" she asked, gaze moving from him to her phone. He could see that she was texting someone. Probably her boyfriend.
Or were they engaged now? He couldn't be sure. If they were, Britt didn't wear a ring. Giving his head a small shake, he considered her invitation. "I don't know…"
"Please? We were just saying the other night that we haven't hung out in ages," she reminded him.
He sensed a trap. Either in the next few moments, or as soon as he got to their house, her face would light up and she would say—
"There's someone I want you to meet."
There it was. Adam sighed and shook his head. "Famous last words."
"Not like that! God, she's so not your type. At all."
"Then why do you want me to meet her?" he asked. Because he had to. He began clicking the pen he was holding.
"She's new to the business. Wait. Not that new. She signed over there last year I think? But she never worked the indies. Anyway, she debuted a month or so ago and Adam's taken her under his wing."
He nodded, smiling. Cole took anyone with promise and passion under his wing. "Okay?"
"And she's far away from home so she doesn't see her family much. She's from Montana. Anyway, she's been to the house a few times and I really like her." Britt smiled. "I'm not trying to set you up. I promise."
"Again, why do you want me to meet her?" He kept pushing his thumb against the top of the pen, faster and faster, until he jabbed it too hard and it went flying across the table. Dropping his hand to his thigh, he drummed his fingers and waited for her explanation.
"Because she's nice. She's super friendly and I loved her in five minutes. I don't expect you to love her!" Britt promised, holding up one hand. "So you'll come?"
Adam groaned. "Do I have a choice?"
"Of course you do. It's a free…ish country."
"But you'll guilt the hell out of me if I don't."
Britt's smile was dazzling. "Of course."
"Text me the time," he sighed.
"Yay! If you want whiskey you have to bring it. Oh, and bring a change of clothes. We'll probably end up in the pool. See you!"
He drew in a breath to reply, but she was already gone. Shaking his head, he bent to lean under the table, searching for his lost pen. He still had a suspicious feeling that she and Cole were definitely trying to hook him up with whoever it was Cole had taken under his wing. More Britt than Cole, he was sure, leaning to snatch the pen from the floor. Settling back, he wondered why seemingly normal people who fell in love were suddenly zealous about everyone around them being coupled up. He would never understand it. And he would never understand why he was always the one being set up. Did he appear lonely? Sad because he was single? Depressed because he had only his beer and whiskey to keep him company?
Well, if he did appear that way, he wasn't lonely. He began to click the pen rapidly while turning his attention back to the laptop. He lived a very full life. He was achieving his dreams. He got to work with some of his best friends. He was making good money. Could finally spoil his parents, who had more than spoiled him when he was growing up. He had an active social life. He didn't sit at home in a funk on his nights off, drinking the sadness away while listening to a melancholy Hank Williams tune. He didn't need a significant other. He was perfectly happy with his life as it was.
Okay, so he was lonely sometimes. When everyone was off doing couple things and he was left with Jack to keep him company. And those times they would go to a bar, or when they'd been on the cruise, and even though he had been surrounded by willing partners he'd been unable to do anything but down drinks and retreat to his room. Alone.
"Get a grip," he muttered to himself, throwing the pen down and resting his head in his hands. Britt had said she wasn't his type. Which meant she was… Hell, what was she?
On that note, what the hell was his type? Did he even have a type?
"I'm not going," he grumbled, reaching to pull the laptop closer to him. "I don't care. I don't give a damn if she does guilt-trip me into the next fucking decade, I—"
"You okay?"
Grunting, he looked up to see Nick standing beside him. "Yeah. I'm fine. Almost finished this bit for BTE."
"Where are you not going?" Nick asked.
"Britt and Cole's." Adam glanced to his phone, lying on the table, when it buzzed with an incoming message. With a sigh he picked it up and read the words Britt had sent.
Saturday, 5-ish. Pool! BYOB!
"Who's she setting you up with this time?"
"Damned if I know. Because I'm not going." So decided, Adam locked his phone and turned his attention fully to the laptop.
***
"Serena!"
About to leave the Performance Center, Serena halted mid-step and looked over her shoulder to see Adam Cole jogging towards her. She knew she wouldn't be leaving any time soon and let her bag slide from her shoulder. She had purposefully arrived early that morning to get extra work in the green room done, still uncomfortable with her mic skills, and had gotten permission from Matt and Sara to slip out early. She was looking forward to her days off. She couldn't wait to turn the outside world off for a couple of days, enjoy some wine, and de-stress.
"Glad I caught you. You're leaving already?" he asked, eyeing her bag.
"Shh, it's a secret," she whispered, rolling her eyes. "What's up?"
"I thought you wanted to work on your enzuigiri."
"I did. I did!" she insisted when he lifted his eyebrows dubiously. "Ask Shawn! I spent an hour today working on it!"
"At one time?"
He had her there. Groaning, she picked up her bag and turned to go back to the locker room. His laugh followed her up, and when she came back down a few moments later he was waiting with a smug smile. Gathering her hair into a ponytail, she walked with him to the empty ring on the far side of the practice room. "Why do you torture me?"
"Hey, you want to be the best, right?" he asked, hopping up onto the apron.
"At the moment I'll settle for second-best," she muttered.
"That's quitter talk. Come on." He gallantly held the ropes open so she could climb into the ring. "Fear not the man who has practiced ten thousand moves once, fear the man who has practiced one move ten thousand times."
"That's a misquote."
"It still holds credence. Show me what you got, Mermaid."
She stretched for a few moments, then launched into running the ropes with him. It was still a marvel to her that, of all people, he had decided to mentor her. She had started wrestling on a whim, practically on a dare. Somehow, all the stars had aligned in her favor for once and she had been signed to the company after her first tryout. Because, miraculously, she was good at this. She, who'd never been remotely athletic after stopping gymnastics at the age of eight.
Even more miraculously, people seemed to like her. Sometimes she had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn't dreaming. She'd pinched her arm repeatedly the day before she had made her NXT debut, and still expected to wake up in her old bed at home.
She landed on the canvas with a hiss. Knowing what Adam would say if she didn't, she rolled onto her back nipped up quickly and waited for him to hop to his feet.
"Keep your eye on your landing," he said, wiping sweat from his brow with his forearm. He smiled and reached for her hand. "You're doing great, kid. What are you doing over the weekend?"
"I'm not coming in to work on my enzuigiri," she warned after giving his hand a shake.
"No," he laughed once they'd climbed out of the ring. He reached for his water and tossed her hers.
She waited until after she'd taken a sip before speaking. "It's my first real weekend off in months. I'm staying home and being lazy."
"Me and Britt are having some friends over tomorrow."
"Oh, no." Serena began shaking her head. "No, Adam."
"Britt wants you to meet—"
"No!"
"Don't let her matchmaking keep you from coming over and having fun." He sighed. "Look, I know the last three—"
"Four," she corrected.
"Four times were utter failures. But still, come over and hang out? It'll be steaks and you can jump in the pool." He rubbed the back of his neck. "And I kind of already told her you said you'd come."
Serena narrowed her eyes. "When did she make these plans?"
"A day or two ago…" Adam cleared his throat. "Monday…"
"Son-of-a… Who does she want me to meet?"
"It doesn't matter. Look, you've been working your ass off. And I know when you're not here you're holed up in your apartment. C'mon, just come out and have some fun. I'll keep her from throwing men in your path."
"Y'know, when you offered to give me extra help, you forgot to mention that you and your girlfriend would constantly be trying to hook me up with your friends." Serena heaved a sigh at the sight of his hangdog expression. "Fine, I'll come. But only for steaks and the pool and some socialization. But if I hear the words 'you have to meet' I'm leaving."
"Of course." He began to smile. "Tomorrow. Around five?"
"Casual?"
"You know it."
"I don't like you much right now," she informed him.
"Hey, this is all Britt's doing, not mine!"
"Why do I get the feeling you're not a hundred percent innocent?"
"Because you're a suspicious person, Mermaid."
"See you tomorrow, Cole Slaw," she promised with a shake of her head. Before she stepped away, though, she reared back to look at him again. "Just how many people will be at this shindig?"
"A few," he said, his smile too wide for her liking.
"Eight? Ten? Twenty?"
"Not twenty… A few," he said again. "See you tomorrow?"
Rolling her eyes, she considered telling him that no, he wouldn't. That she would stick to her original plans of staying in her apartment and being as lazy as humanly possible. But, she thought with a groan, she couldn't. For whatever reason, Adam and Britt had befriended her shortly after she started working at the Performance Center, and she was extremely grateful for their friendship. It made her homesickness a little less intense, knowing she had them to turn to. With a sigh, she nodded. "I'll see you tomorrow."
***
He was fastening the buttons of his new shirt when the realization struck.
"Goddammit, what the fucking hell," he groused, unbuttoning the shirt with a scowl. Despite his decision to not go, he was getting dressed. And, damn it all to hell, he had been dressing with care. He glared down at his boots and flung the shirt onto the bed. He refused to dress as though to impress whoever it was Britt wanted him to meet. It was casual, right? So why had he chosen his best jeans?
Still cussing under his breath he took it all off. Had his favorite old jeans pulled up when he caught his reflection in the mirror. With another scowl he raked the hair he'd spent twenty minutes fussing with into a bun and fastened it with a band before buttoning his jeans and yanking a t-shirt out the drawer.
He didn't want to go. But he pulled the shirt on and threaded his belt through the loops of his jeans.
He knew what was going to happen. He knew how it was going to end. But he gathered the spare clothes Britt had told him to bring and dug out his swim trunks.
And he grabbed the new bottle of whiskey on his way out the door.
His suspicions were raised when he pulled up to Britt and Cole's and saw only one strange car parked. He checked the time and saw that it was after five. Dragging a hand over his face he considered driving off and going back to his place. But just as he reached to put his truck in gear he saw the front door open and then Cole was waving.
And, damn it, he couldn't leave now.
Cole greeted him with an ice-cold beer and a warm smile. "Hey, man."
Adam took a grateful swig as he stepped inside, and handed over the whiskey. "Where's Britt?"
"Working on part of dinner. C'mon, we'll go chill out back." Cole led the way through the back of the house, and Adam made sure to poke his head into the kitchen to greet Britt before stepping out on the patio.
Halfway through his beer and several minutes into safe conversation, he couldn't stand it. "Alright, who is she?"
"Who?"
Adam squinted at his old friend. "Britt wants me to meet her. But she was overselling the fact that she just wants us to be friends. So, who is she? And if she's so great, why haven't I met her already?"
Cole sighed. "It's Serena. And look, this is all Britt's idea, not mine."
Adam took a swig of beer and nodded. He knew of her. Had checked out some of her work in NXT. "I'm sick of being forced into a double date, Cole."
"I know, I know. And I was gonna invite some others, but… Britt thinks her plan is perfect and that if she stresses that she doesn't want you to be romantically involved that… She just wants you to be happy."
"Jesus Christ," Adam laughed bitterly. "Am I that fucking depressing?"
"No!" His friend's voice was vehement. "You deserve happiness, Page."
"I'm happy," he ground out.
"Are you?" Cole asked softly.
Adam drained his beer and slung the bottle into the recycling bin at the corner of the patio. "Yes. I'm happy."
"Are y'all having boy talk out here, Cole Slaw?"
He turned at the soft voice that spoke from the doorway. Blinked at the sight of neon pink hair tumbling over a shoulder and a hand holding two bottles of beer. Clearing his throat, he looked to Adam. "Cole Slaw?"
"She hates me," Cole sighed.
"He loves it," she insisted, stepping out onto the patio. Her smile was friendly as she approached, and she lifted the beers in greeting. "Introduce me?"
"Serena, Adam Page. Adam, Serena Parker."
"Pleased to meet you," Adam said automatically, extending his hand.
"Likewise." Her hand was cool from her beer, but her handshake was firm.
"I'll just go see if Britt needs help," Cole announced before slipping away.
Adam watched him retreat, shaking his head in disbelief. "Un-fucking-believable."
"Here," she said, thrusting a beer into his hands. "You look like you could use it."
He accepted it with a nod and wrenched the cap off. Waited until they'd sipped in silence for several long moments before sighing. "You know what they're doing, don't you?"
"I knew the minute Cole invited me," she murmured. "I'm sorry."
"Not your fault," he promised. He could feel eyes watching them through the window and nearly threw up his middle finger. Instead, he gestured to the pool. "You going in?"
"In a bit." She glanced over her shoulder, then looked back at him with a rueful grin. "Let's walk."
"I'm sorry they dragged you into this," he said once they'd left the patio. He didn't know why he felt the need to apologize. It wasn't his fault. Not really. "They've got it in their head that—"
"You need a partner?" she finished. "Same. It's really getting on my nerves."
He felt a surge of relief. "Really? I almost left when I realized she'd lied about having a few people over."
"I almost didn't come," she admitted. "But…"
"They're your friends and you don't want to be mean," he finished softly.
"Exactly. But god, they get on my tits. Any single man they know is perfect for me. Because, you know, a woman can't just be single and enjoying life unless she's got a man."
"Fuck, they're brutal," he agreed, relaxing slightly when it became apparent that she wasn't angling for something more than casual conversation. "I don't get it."
"Me either! Just because we're single doesn't mean we have to be thrust together," Serena proclaimed. "It's ridiculous. I don't get why once people get in a relationship they think everyone needs to be in one."
"It's like they don't think two people can just be friends." Adam smiled and took a swig of beer.
"I mean, yeah, having a partner is nice. But it's not the be-all end-all of life." She stopped at the pool and kicked off one sandal so she could trail her toes in the water.
"It should happen organically," he said.
"Yes. Not because someone thinks I'm perfect for someone or vice versa." She flicked water from her toes and turned to face him. Her smile was almost contagious. "So now we know that neither of us want to hook up just because Britt and Cole think we'd be good together."
"Absolutely," he agreed with a nod. "Want to tell them we aren't compatible?"
"No…" She shook her head vigorously, and bright pink waves caught the sunlight. "We don't tell them a thing. Let them wonder."
"You, Serena Parker, are a wise woman," he decided with a grin.
She raised her bottle and clinked it against his. "I'll fucking drink to that!"

AEW Double of Nothing 2020 - My Thoughts
Tumblr media
Well that was a long night, it’s tough watching USA PPVs in the UK. But Double or Nothing is in the books and since I have free time I thought I’d talk about some stuff I liked and disliked I’ll have to note, I’m not a sole AEW fan, I like stuff from WWE, NJPW, Stardom, TJPW and DDT Pro too, dabbling in ROH, Impact and NWA from time to time and reminiscing fondly over the time Lucha Underground was great. But I say this because I don’t want people quickly pointing fingers at me accusing me of being a stan for AEW or WWE just because I like or dislike something they disagree with, I’m not playing bias I am literally working on impulse and sleep deprivation
Spoilers for AEW Double or Nothing 2020 obviously, watch, enjoy, look at some gifs maybe and come back here
The Buy-In:
Private Party vs Best Friends (Winner is No.1 Contender for the AEW World Tag Team Championship) Winner: Best Friends via Pinfall (Strong Zero to Marq Quen)
For a pre-show match it was fine, the Buy-In stream did start way too early and streaming and audio issues would plague both Fite and BR Live streams throughout. As for the match, it was a tad sloppy at times but it is worth reminding people that PP haven’t been wrestling in a while. And they weren’t terrible botches, just a few overexersions, people can’t be as crisp as Rey Fénix every match, especially since there’s more margin of error the more people involved in the spot there is. The match was very back and forth at times, and the highlight has to be the G9, PP (and Big Swole) had been wearing SG armbands in honor of Shad Gaspard, who tragically died in Venice Beach due to a rip current submerging him, I had been a big fan of Cryme Tyme (and PS4′s God of War which he did motion capture of Kratos for) when they were in WWE, so the nice homage of using their finisher was a nice touch. As for the result I didn’t mind either way, I had backed PP due to their ongoing BTE feud with Hangman Page, but the Best Friends have definitely been consistent enough to challenge and possibly even win the titles, it would be sensible for them to win it too since they have lingering feuds with TH2, Death Triangle, The Superbad Death Squad and Butcher and Blade.
Main Card:
Intermission build for Casino Ladder Match
It was mostly people explaining how and why they were gonna win, but I did have to make a separate mention for Jimmy Havoc, dressed to fucking drip. Man looks like a bond villain.
Casino Ladder Match (Winner is No.1 Contender for the AEW World Championship at Fyter Fest) Winner: Brian Cage An early point I wanna make, I think AEW are spying on me because I had much earlier thought up a similar idea of a ‘Bargaining Chip’ to work as a guaranteed contendership boon. If Tony Khan wants to pick my brain all he has to do is call, I still think all non-title ‘Double or Nothing’ matches should be worth 2 wins/losses in the spirit of the PPV name. I also didn’t mind the giant chip, would’ve been silly if it was regular sized. AEW has a winner with this format I think, the battle royale format was good for introducing a group of new faces, but in a more condensed format the Casino rules for a Ladder match work two ways, the early people have less opposition to win while the last people are fresh, the red ladders were a bit much for my tastes though. As for the match, it was still a bit messy but there were 9 people plus interferences to deal with, also since Fénix was pulled from the match we have to give benefit of the doubt in terms of the match narrative changing. It was an odd choice picking both members of SCU to start but we may be setting up Superbad Death Squad vs SCU tensions as well, adding Darby in the halfway mark was a good burst of energy but you really do wince with the stuff Darby ragdolls through. OC was his usual hilarious self, the low-effort reach attempts, the brief pause with Cabana. The frenetic energy of Janela resumed the pace from the comedy segment until the super heavyweights came in; I did find that Luchasaurus did prioritize a fight over the match itself, but it worked for his heavyweight mentality and after being undone by Allin’s sunset bomb, gave us the space for the final entrant. Brian Cage, I love that man he is just nonsense talented, his moveset is unique and malleable and his power is insane. What a way to debut as well, completely ripped apart a ladder, murdered Allin with a ‘F-5000′ (Props to Excalibur as always) and was running roughshot - aside from OC, who almost hilariously piggybacked a win - until most of the competitors basically flattened him under a bunch of miscellaneous objects and a giant poker chip. This gave Luchasaurus some time to have some fun as the ‘Big Man’ too, really did enjoy the Marko mini-ladder and OC channeling the Hurricane with the chokeslam attempt, I do appreciate that Best Friends and Jurassic Express still have that rivalry, also Janela’s running DVD to OC on top of the pile of miscellaneous objects was a great spot, but it was all leading up to Cage bursting out and squaring off with the Dino, more of this! There was a bit of wobbly knees but the powerbomb on the ladder with gnarly, and we are due a hoss match for Luchasaurus since his feuds with Wardlow and the Butcher fell through due to COVID. But this was Cage’s time, I thought Allin was gonna sneak it for a moment but then I remembered that Cage winning was much more story-based. The ladder spot was brutal and a bit too much for the finish but the result I am still quite happy with. Before Fénix was pulled I backed him to win because I felt that the world title picture needed some speed after the methodical match with Hager, but Cage does have the speed and the power to put on a good show, he’s a proven world champion at Impact and he has been on AEW’s radar for a long time, injury keeping him out.As much as one can complain that this was just a gratuitous spot fest there was storyline; the faction conflicts of SCU, Superbad Death Squad, Best Friends and Jurassic Express was apparent but the main story by the end was the story of Allin and Tazz, Tazz was angered by Darby’s hostile response to his offer of managing him after his loss to Cody, so he’s taken Cage under his wing to enact some payback. It’s a solid looking pairing too, using the legends as managers is something AEW does well and using Tazz as Cage’s manager with his promo skills and their physical similarities is an interesting combination.
Jungle Boy vs MJF Winner: MJF via Pinfall (Modified European Clutch) This was one of my favourite wrestling matches on the card. The back and forth between MJF and Jungle Boy had some great athleticism and technical wrestling. This can easily be a top tier feud between the two later down the line, they are like two sides of a coin. The match had great storytelling in the fact that MJF worked Jungle Boy’s arm, which allowed him to escape situations like the crossface and hold on to the final pinfall, MJF was pulling great heel works and trickery while trying to work Jungle Boy into the Salt of the Earth finisher, the knee injury fakeout was great. But Jungle Boy also rallied with the babyface resilience, the explosive anger in the face of MJF’s undermining and proved his strength. I appreciated the finish as well, MJF won clean but Jungle Boy looked excellent, and it avoided Wardlow ex Machina. MJF continues to look more and more like world champion material and I can see him stealing it from Moxley.
TNT Presentation with Mike Tyson
Tumblr media
Okay, I don’t like the belt. I’m sorry, I know it’s unfinished due to COVID so there’s room for improvement but it just looks too simple on the main plate. It seems like every other belt AEW releases is a bit lacking. The World and Tag titles are sublime but the Women’s title is far too small and the TNT title just lacks detail, it’s also hard to not think it looks like the WWE Raw Tag Titles mixed with the 24/7 title, I have never been a big fan of plastering the name in BIG DISTRACTING LETTERS in the middle. Granted, I get why silver was used for a midcard belt, and not every title can be Big Gold, Winged Eagle, NXT UK,  IWGP or the ROH world title, but it could’ve taken more inspiration from the IC white strap, NXT NA title, AWA Southern Heavyweight or even the NJPW US title if you’re so adamant about the bright red strap. Frankly I was just disappointed that AEW presented such a weak design.
TNT Championship Tournament Final Winner: Cody via Pinfall (2 Consecutive Cross Rhodes) The finals for the match started off impressively, Archer looking like a total monster even bringing in some poor sod to decimate in front of an entertained Tyson before striking early with his finisher on Cody. Cody fought from under Archer’s offence to get some licks into his core. Sadly not all the cuts to Tyson were great, the one that’ll dominate media being the one where he was caught yawning. Before smarks jump at it, people are allowed to yawn, it’s not always a sign of boredom, given that Tyson is 53, has been hitting the gym hard and it was past 10pm, every other time they went to him he looked like he was loving the match, especially Archer’s heel intensity. The match didn’t have enough of Arn and Jake for my liking, given what was hinted at during Dynamite, I didn’t mind them being ejected especially since Arn was playing dirty too. Cody did pull out some storied offence with the Stringer Splash and Dustin’s Final Reckoning, but the ending kinda felt like the wrong result. After Jake was scared away by a Ripped Tyson from bringing his snake to the ring, Archer just became undone by Cody wriggling out of the Black Out and nailing two Cross Rhodes (third of the match) for the W. It was a bit iffy, I mean Cody has used the double Cross Rhodes to win a few matches already, so it felt like for me if Cody was to win then he’d need to pull off something extra. One Cross Rhodes made Archer kick out at one after all. Many people will use this as ‘Cody is an EVP of course he books himself as champion’ trying to liken him to Triple H or Jeff Jarrett, but while I disagreed with the result, I don’t think it’s bad that Cody wins a midcard title. He is never going to win the world title, he’s been a consistently great babyface for the company too and put MJF and Jericho over, as a wrestler you can’t have Cody not win a title ever. But that being said, I think defeat did hurt Archer, he was so in control of the match and just came undone right at the end, there was a heavy contrast to the Archer that started the match and the Archer that finished. It doesn’t mean he’s lost his aura completely, but winning the title would’ve done him more favours than it would have done Cody at this current time.
Intermission: Britt Baker Injury Update To prelude the Ford/Statlander match, there was a small bit explaining the nature of Britt Baker’s injury. It was kinda decent to still sell Britt’s gimmick by the doctor admitting that she’s being a handful, but the 6-8 week time frame is a shame, that’s only competing though, it’ll be interesting what they do with her on next Dynamite, she may get herself an enforcer too (Nyla could work, or Sadie Gibbs since she’s due a re-debut).
Penelope Ford vs Kris Statlander Winner: Kris Statlander via Pinfall (Big Bang Theory) While Penelope only had brief involvement in the Casino Ladder Match (she did have a weird space of just standing there for a bit as OC started to use 0.5% of his full power), hers and Kip’s entrance did put a smile as Kip sold the ladder match hard, as did Kris’ booping to the crowd and the joyous reactions of Nakazawa, Austin Gunn and Suge D/Pineapple Pete from it. The match itself was okay, this stage felt like a palate cleanser if anything. Ford and Kris did work pretty well, there was a nervy suicide dive where Kris’ head almost went into the barricade but we also got some great strikes, a good hurricanrana from Ford and a solid end as Kip tried to break the pin using his crutches. Ford has been lowkey great for the women’s division, her surprise win over Riho is proof of that, but Statlander was due a win. I felt like against Britt she was due a loss but now it feels like we can expand on that feud a bit, it’s good signs from AEW’s weak spot and it just needs a bit more faces - which of course is limited by COVID but I do really miss seeing Bea, Allie, Swole (who almost every heel in the crowd seemed to wanna rile up), Anna Jay, Shanna, Riho, Emi Sakura (who streamed her reactions of the show) and personal favourite Yuka Sakazaki in the ring, as well as hoping for returns from Ivelisse, Jamie Hayter, Sadie Gibbs and Awesome Kong for the Women’s Division, also maybe bring Vickie into the fold as a manager, she was a presence in the crowd.
Dustin Rhodes vs Shawn Spears Winner: Dustin Rhodes via Pinfall (Final Reckoning) Sadly this was the weakest match on the card. Started pretty well though, Spears was heeling it up a la Booker T in KOTR when Angle wasn’t cleared to compete and still demanded that they be counted out. There was also the HBK Montreal music fake-out which was pretty good, but he did wait a bit long to pull off the smile. Brandi halted the count allowing for Dustin to pull a sneak which was made great by the camera movement but from there it started to devolve into a weak spot. Comedy matches are fine, but times and place work for it, and Shawn Spears’ continued pursuit against Cody should not have been a comedy match in my opinion. I never dig the strip bit as well, there’s only so much you can suspend disbelief and Shawn being stripped to his boxers that have Tully Blanchard’s face on them is over that line.  If Dustin was to win then I wished it wasn’t this way, sadly Spears has been hit with a revolving door of gimmicks, the Chairman was good but lacked intensity, the needing a partner looked to be going somewhere until COVID limited his options (and sank Brandon’s push) and this new anti-Cody gimmick has suddenly became a joke, it’s not a good spot for him especially when he had a pretty good match with Cody in the TNT tournament. We know through MJF that he can do comedy, but the key to comedy is timing and Shawn’s character should’ve been looking towards him contending for Cody’s newfound TNT title rather than being humiliated ass-cheeks out on TV...at least Peyton has something to giggle about at home though. Pre-Match Tribute to Hana Kimura (1997-2020)
Tumblr media
I was glad that AEW took a moment to tribute Hana’s death. After the homage to Shad in the Buy-In I was hoping that they would reference her before the women’s title match and my hopes were realised. Reading the headline of her death yesterday morning put a horrid pit in my stomach, I had always felt that Hana was one of the most talented women in Stardom, as ‘Dark Hana’ in Oedo Tai, ‘Rave Hana’ when feuding with Kagetsu, ‘Death-Hana’ when teaming with Yama and of course as the TCS leader, I easily saw her in a few years time being the face of the company, her faction was on a high, she partook in Stardom’s first ever Tokyo Dome match at Wrestle Kingdom, she had wrestled in guest entires for DDT Pro and ROH, and I also hoped to see her in an AEW ring one day (Brandi had Stardom ties after all). Her dedication to the business was palpable as she even went into a reality show to try and get more eyes on wrestling, and yet cyberbulling drove her to feel so sub-human that she likely took her own life. It was a horrible, horrible thing to read about, and I really wanted to vent this out yesterday but didn’t due to the fact that I didn’t tribute Shad’s death and didn’t want it to appear that I only cared about Hana’s death. Shad’s death was sad of course, he nobly prioritised the rescue of his son and sadly time was not on his side against the elements, it’s obviously terrible that he died and the world is poorer for his loss as well, but Hana’s death hit me harder for different reasons. For one, she was 22, 5 years younger than me, her career was bright and her smile wide, and yet anonymous sadsacks were able to torment her enough for no reason other than so they could bring a young woman down to make themselves feel better, as a person who underwent a lot of bullying at a young age - I was forced to eat dirt once in primary school - this did hit hard for me, because despite both deaths being tragic: Shad died because of the elements nobody can control, Hana died because of people, sad, despicable people and even though I never knew Hana or would’ve even been able to reach her, it sucks feeling that there was nothing we could do to help her. In conclusion, bullying sucks, and Excalibur put it aptly as many others have, it doesn’t cost a thing to be kind and if you’re struggling there’s people who’ll be there for you.
AEW Women’s Championship (No DQ or Count-Out) Nyla Rose (c) vs Hikaru Shida Winner: Hikaru Shida via Pinfall (’Three Count’ Knee Strike) Perhaps one of the best women’s matches AEW have put on, I was very looking forward to this matchup. I am not one of those people who disliked Rose winning the title, she (yes she, grow up) was a good, dominant heel and I bloody love that jumping knee strike. But I also love Shida, she’s been a consistent force in AEW, being a part of most of the Women’s Division’s best matches, also she as a person is very likeable. I have to add a note that while I’m not too familiar with Final Fantasy (Tumblr seems to think I am mind you), I did like the small Tifa Lockhart cosplay in Shida’s attire. In general the fancy entrances and attires were sadly limited by COVID, but when you did see them it did make it a little special because of its rarity. The No DQ stip was a good one, I did worry it would lead to Shida’s downfall but the storytelling revolving around Shida’s tenacity, Nyla’s brutality and the coveting of the kendo stick all really meshed together well. There were some solid spots and some proper brutal strikes. I appreciated the attention to the fact that Nyla’s arm and Shida’s leg were weakened and that came into play as they landed their big moves to a near fall. The finale though was good, following a beautiful sequence of an Avalanche Falcon Arrow and the weak-legged ‘Three Count’ at two, Shida’s resiliency proved too much for the native beast as she laid her out with a Kendo stick to the head and one more ‘Three Count’ for the eventual namesake. While Nyla’s reign was long, COVID did sadly prevent her from defending much and that was a shame, her only real defense being against Statlander, but it was the right call to pull the trigger on Shida. Like Asuka in WWE, she has been a consistent fan favourite with star aura, being No DQ also aided Nyla in saving face; Shida only won due to her Kendo strikes and out-of-ring spots, so it made her strong that it took that stipulation to bring her to her limit. I do welcome the type of storylines they’ll have to build opponents for Shida too, with Britt in recovery it gives her time before they can renew hostilities, which grants a platform for other heels to develop and challenge. Also do appreciate that the top titles were carded back-to-back, speaking of which...
AEW World Heavyweight Championship Jon Moxley (c) vs “The Exalted One” Mr. Brodie Lee Winner: Jon Moxley via KO by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) While the build to Moxley and Brodie started abrupt, one had to appreciate jumping at this matchup sooner rather than later. Both men were lacking a strong feud to go with since the Inner Circle were still involved with The Elite and SCU were being preoccupied with the TNT title. The Dark Order had gained a resurgence with the mystery of the Exalted One, and with some impressive squashes by Brodie and Preston Vance impressing as his new protegee ‘10′, things were looking decent for the faction, but this still remained a risky angle. For Brodie this would be a make or break moment for his character, he had already gotten some disdain as people compared his gimmick to a Vince McMahon caricature and questions rose on whether he was ready for this spot, if he wasn’t then the Dark Order would’ve fell to square one. But that didn’t happen. From the moment Brodie came out with his horde he exuded a brilliant amount of heel smugness, feeling as if being champion was already a certainty (I do also love how previously he had a minion carry the belt for him like a boxing entourage), the mind games already on display before the bell even rang. Moxley also looked raring to go, his usual swaying self with a bit of purpose and a lovely gold sprayed jacket as he strided to the ring, separated by a row of security to sell the animosity between the villain and the antihero. The match was very strong, a really enjoyable world title match that meshed the brawling styles of both men, the advantage going to and fro as Brodie used his power to gain advantage while Moxley used his unconventional assault - even grabbing Lee’s beard for a headbutt - and the outside of the ring with a lovely Paradigm Shift through the ramp that brought some believable (in the context of the spot) colour to Brodie’s face. The finish increased the pace in brilliant fashion as Brodie shockingly kicked out of the Paradigm Shift at one, from there Moxley looked desperately to put Brodie away before he could rally, hammering at the head wound before cleverly bringing Brodie down with a Rear Naked Choke. I was surprised a lot of people didn’t like that finish, it kept Brodie strong that he didn’t tap out and a rear naked choke is a great finish, it has legitimacy since it ends many UFC fights, it was smart as well because Brodie was bleeding, so on top of blood loss making him light-headed Moxley cut off his blood flow to his head to knock him out. You also have to appreciate this incorporation to Moxley’s moveset, adding submission means there’s a new way he can win and it comes from the MMA background of Hager, like the Gotch Piledriver adopted from Minoru Suzuki (and I have to say Kaze ni Nare whenever I see him do it), seeing Moxley adapt his moveset is a nice little tidbit that helps Moxley feel more studied in his experiences. Also side bar, god bless Leva Bates. In the past two matches she kept in-character and rescued a laptop from destruction. Her wrestling does need a bit of fine tuning but her character work is undeniably great. Overall, like Jungle Boy vs MJF, it did help the match not to have interference, it was two people decking each other to see who’s best and Moxley proved himself more ferocious. Brodie showed himself as a main event quality wrestler who looked good with the title on, pushing through assault multiple times to only be eked into defeat (unlike Archer). Hopefully his story furthers in either respecting that even he must strengthen or lashing out because of his weakness.
Stadium Stampede Match Winner: The Elite, ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy & ‘Hangman’ Adam Page via Pinfall (One-Winged Angel on Sammy Guevara) Well, that was surely something. Not to be outdone by MITB, the storied rivalry of The fractured Elite, Hangman and Matt Hardy against the Inner Circle went hilariously wild and creative with the Stadium Stampede and I loved every single second of it. I’ll try to remember everything in the match to praise so here goes; the Inner Circle’s entrance like an NFL team was great fun, would’ve liked them to jump out of a paper symbol of the Inner Circle but it didn’t take away from the entertainment value. The Elite started without Hangman as they charged at the IC to meet in the middle, some fighting in the ring and some out. Hangman won the entrance game though by ominously strolling on horseback as Sammy Guevara quickly read between the lines and bolted, only to have shaken off Hangman to return for a missed shooting star press on Matt and then a very nearly uncaught one out of the ring too. Not to be outdone, Matt Jackson - broken ribs and all - pulled off a crisp moonsault off the goal post of the stadium while the Bucks tussled with ‘Le Sex Gods’, Santana and Ortiz tussled with Omega and Hardy and Hager went to search for Hangman, who had since dismounted after locating the lobby bar. Kenny had a rough double powerbomb table spot which was quickly cut to replay in order to mask either Santana and/or Ortiz losing his footing on the table and fell off it, but the cut allowed that moment to be skipped as the tag team focused on Hardy. Broken Brilliance would ensue as the team would try to drown Matt in a swimming pool(!?) that happened to be a pool of reincarnation, surfacing Team Extreme ‘Classic Matt’ and then ‘V1 Matt’ with graphics of ‘MATTer of Fact’ that Santana and Ortiz hilariously acknowledged with confusion, all the while an underwater cam would film Matt still happily doing his Team Extreme/V1 hand gestures while drowning. Damascus resurfaced from the pool to deal with the duo, sending both through a table, immobilizing Ortiz by ringing a bell with his head inside and taping him to a ‘chair of wheels’ and then getting his own back by locking Santana in an ice box. I will have to say, while this was great fun with Matt, I do worry a little for Santana and Ortiz. The former LAX were one of the best tag teams in the world leaving Impact and I had hoped they’d take the tag titles in this feud, but they’ve been kept from it like the Bucks have, between the Lucha Bros, SCU, Best Friends and rumours of FTR, the pool does have a lot of strong teams and it’s easy to get lost in the fold. But back to the action, Hager finds Hangman enjoying a whiskey, after a brief ceasefire to drink the bar brawl hits the right notes of great western tropes, including cue stick strikes, Hager dragging Hangman across the bar stand and table spots. Hager looked really strong here, taking on Page and the arriving Omega before being sent wobbly by multiple bottles of bubbly to the head, followed by a V-Trigger and a Buckshot Lariat over the bar as Kenny platformed for Page’s flip, a nice resolution as the tag team get on the same page, sharing a whiskey and a milk. Stories returned to the stadium as the Bucks and Jericho had their own mixture of creative spots and comedy; Matt did a ‘100 yard’ chain of Northern Lights Suplexes onto Guevara while Jericho demanded a VAR replay on a 2 count from Aubrey Edwards (I love how involved Aubrey gets as well), Le Champion also sent Nick through a Jaguars jaguar head’s mouth and did a Judas Effect on the team mascot while Matt was penalized after his touchdown dance referencing Alan Wright, leading to the ref being Superkicked. The Bucks then were able to isolate Jericho and lay him out with Nick doing a bonkers splash through a table starting from the steps of the stadium all the way down to the field, added insult to injury following as Hangman drove over Jericho with a chalk liner But the star of the match had to be Guevara. That kid is a literal star, his expressions and delusion is so on point as well, Spanish gods bless him and his 1000+ lives. After recovering from the 100 yard suplex run, he collapsed onto sprinklers which turned on, his mindset loopy as he started celebrating thinking he won, his face slowly dropping perfectly as the return of the Golf Kart gave him flashbacks of a past death of his in the Tag Street Fight on a previous Dynamite. Sammy was a little wiser and faster though, escaping into the seats out of the Kart’s reach, he slowly ended up being cornered by Matt and Kenny as the Bucks and Hangman watched below, Guevara fended off Matt, but was distracted by Vanguard-1′s reincarnation, NEO-1, for Kenny to daze him. The finish coming as Kenny One-Winged Angel’d Sammy off the ramp to a crash mat below at an incredible height, Aubrey needing to climb a ladder to count the win. Afterwards, the Elite celebrated with Matt and Hangman, hinting that Hangman has reconciled with the Elite as graphics appeared again on the stadium, closing out the PPV. Fantastically bonkers match, but once again this match had a great story in the terms of how the Inner Circle lost. For weeks, the IC ended consecutive Dynamites with the advantage due to their masterful use of the numbers game, but in the Stadium Stampede they are defeated because they split ranks, together they were strong but alone they were broken down, it’s only when the likes of Hager, Jericho and Guevara were isolated did the Inner Circle begin to lose the tide. There was also the recurring elements of the Icebox, Matt’s Broken character, Nick’s prior injury by the IC, Kenny bringing the broom and Hangman’s Cowboy Shit and strained relationship with Kenny and the Bucks, not to mention the many deaths and PTSD of Sammy Guevara. Say what you will about the Elite favouring spots, but you cannot deny that even in this Inner Circle feud, they have made stars out of Guevara and Hangman, it isn’t just self-indulgence. I will say though, I was surprised not to see FTR make a jump, we already had the IC and Elite have graphics on the Stadium so I hoped that the final one would be FTR, but maybe they’re saving it, after all, Blood and Guts is still waiting to be used.
Final Thoughts Outside of the matches itself it was unique that foley crowd sounds were added in to add to immersion, if it weren’t the Empty Arena era of course it would be a down but under the circumstances it made the PPV feel bigger having at least some white noise. The roster as a crowd continues to be good as we saw various personnel react but not steal any spotlight. We do have to appreciate that AEW acknowledges some shortcomings such as the TNT title’s unfinished model and the injuries to Fénix and Baker. Production issues should not have persisted as long as they have, and while it may not all be AEW’s fault due to COVID and the alternate streaming services they must be aware that this will continue to be treated as a blemish, unfortunately whatever AEW does will be compared to WWE - like the Women’s and TNT title have or the respective pushes to select wrestlers. While the current wrestlers are doing well and Dark is providing a platform for local talent - some like Jay, Suge D, Vance and Angels capturing the eye of AEW - it’s worth not forgetting the roster still there; Janela, Kiss, Swole, Avalon, Leva, and practically anyone in the crowd of shows should be able to compete right? All of personnel are tested for COVID so I do appreciate the attention to safety but from a fan’s perspective you do hope that talent get proper exposure. I will also say that I think we’re reaching a threshold of ‘Legends managers’ for the singles men’s roster, we’re fine for now but you don’t want to overdo it. But, overall Double or Nothing was a solid and enjoyable show, had some fun moments and strong matches. While I found the Archer finish and the Spears match disagreeable, it wasn’t too much of a down to ruin the show, the highs still outweighed the lows and there was still a good amount of variety, decent pacing due to good card positioning and nothing overstayed its welcome. We’ve got intriguing directions now too as we build to Fyter Fest; a feud between Moxley and Cage, Cody and the TNT title, fallout for Brodie and Archer’s losses, Best Friends in the tag title hunt, Britt Baker on promo and new champion Shida waiting for us in anticipation of the next show.

21, 23, and 37 if you haven’t already answered !
21. psds or original coloring for each gif
i answered to this one here (but yes haha it depends!)
23. what is the thing you gif when you don’t have anything else you want to gif
hmm, tricky question! i’d say moxley in njpw because i always think that they have very nice shots and angles. when i go back to watch their post-match stuff and there’s like a 4 second clip, i’m like “whoaaa with a little bit of saturation and more contrast this would look very nice” haha. but i also like giffing bte and like two years ago i was doing this ‘bte meme’ but i never continued/finished it. it was super fun to do and i wish i could get inspired to do more!
37. what sets if any do you have planned to make in the future
well, i guess making dynamite gifs as the show continues is in the horizon for me haha, to keep the aew fanblog running. but i’ve planned to do some ‘100 days of jon moxley’ thing... i already have a bunch of gifsets ready but i need to figure out when do i (and... if?) i want to start posting them.
send me questions about gifmaking!

AEW Fight for the Fallen
A slightly frustrating night for the nascent promotion nonetheless featured plenty of quality wrestling and serves as a decent ‘go-home show’ for August’s All Out.
- All Out loomed pretty large over the entire card, even before the show -- Page and Omega both faced roadblocks en-route to the bigger show, Bucks/Rhodes brothers against brothers was built mostly on a few jokes on BTE -- but the promises made for August were all tantalizing. - Really liked the venue, amphitheater style seating and open air is a novelty I’d like to see more of,  the entrance ramp level with the ring paid off a few times. Wondering if they’ll adopt a more ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach for TV, but it’s been interesting noticing the tweaks to production. Entrance music still needs to be turned up on the feed. - End of the show was unnecessarily awkward and probably didn’t need to be part of the broadcast, which apparently confused Cody/Kenny/Everybody in the ring... Obviously that’s one of the things to take a look at when they’re debriefing. - Aubrey Edwards had herself a night, love how she gets between the wrestlers and doesn’t stand in the corner wishing she could do something. - Way too much ‘A-E-Dub’ chanting. Cheer the wrestlers. Boo the heels. *Pre-Card Sonny Kiss v The Librarian Peter Avalon (**1/2) - Maybe it’s because Avalon’s a little better in the ring than his counterpart, but this was the first time the Librarians have clicked properly -- the crowd is more than ready to pump up anyone who can knock these heaters around, and Sonny Kiss took the opportunity and ran. He was non-stop impressive from entrance to pinfall and the crowd ate it up.  Dr Britt Baker DMD & Riho v Shoko Nakajima & Bea Priestley (**) - Britt and Bea have shared the ring exactly once before, Shoko and Riho have a handful of matches together per Cagematch, and chemistry failed to find a spark in a lot of this match, which was fun enough but didn’t showcase any of the competitors at their best. The crowd was hot for Bea, and she’s been having some good matches in STARD✪M, but this was not peak-Priestley. I was excited to see Shoko, since tiny wrestlers with furry tails are my fave, but only Riho looked the part tonight. - Bea clocked Britt pretty good at one point, speculation is that’s part of why the good Doctor attempted to tag in Shoko. Kinda sums up the match. *Main-Card MJF, Sammy Guevara and Shawn Spears v Darby Allin, Jimmy Havoc and Joey Janela (***) - As far as multi-man schmozz curtain-jerkers go, this was a fun to-do. Darby Allin’s so fluid and speedy -- could do with more converted skateboarders in the squared circle. - I do think it’s odd to see MJF teaming with Shawn Spears, but I guess if it’s against Team Loveable Scuz, it’s for the greater good. The greater good. - Looks like Spears is indeed first up for a push, which sorta follows, other than Havoc, everyone else in this match is a sassy small child. Brandi Rhodes v Allie (dud) - I really feel for Allie, she’s not a world-beater or anything but she’s a good wrestler with a fun persona that you’ve got to imagine they’d like to get over, and now she’s been in the two worst matches of the last two shows. Brandi’s been trying to make being a wrestler work for a couple years, she’s got the drive and ambition but it’s not really coming along, I don’t know if it’s a lack of reps or what. This was a slow, sloppy, lifeless slog to the point that the best parts were the camera cutaways to Awesome Kong and Aja’s entrance. - Decently excited for Kong v Kong, less so for commentary tying themselves into knots during. A Boy and His Dinosaur v The Dark Order v Los Gueros Del Cielo (***1/2) - Another stupid ‘two in’ three-way match, this felt like it was headed for disaster until about halfway through and it devolved into a lucha-style tag match, and then it was a cooker. - Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus pulled off a string of the wildest tag team maneuvers of the night. Worth pointing out that The Young Bucks and Lucha Bros also worked this show. Both are improving show after show, the dinosaur still isn’t much for selling, but they’re getting over in a big way. - Jack Evans routinely leaves me amazed that he hasn’t had a higher-profile career, his small size and somewhat looser style accounts for some of it, but maybe he’s just made some odd choices along the way. Awesome he’s here now. - The Dark Order are assuredly the baddies, but the crowd seemed actively disinterested at times. Not sure what to make of that. Hangman Adam Pages v Kip Sabian (**1/2) - Sabian appeared to give Page a decent test on the road to Jericho, not quite a star-making turn but I liked what we saw of Sabian’s crowd-work. Seeds of doubt as to the outcome only really pointed toward ‘time limit draw.’ - Is it unreasonable to ask Commentary to be wise to the fact that the goth dad version of Jericho is literally always pulling shit like this, and to jump to conclusions at the point of that stiff as hell single-leg codebreaker? - Heel Jericho’s ironic reliance on cheap heat does not get old. He’s the greatest. Lucha Bros v SCU (***) - The SCU entrance is beautifully canned in the tradition of so many beautifully canned entrance schticks. Viva SCU. Pentagon and Fenix are Ant Samurai now, so watch out for that. - Solid as ever, given the participants, the main issue here is that this fracas was not super memorable, my main takeaway is that we’re headed toward a ladder war between the Bucks and Lucha Bros. (!!!) CIMA v Kenny Omega (****) - Kenny Omega lives. Granted, he’s barely worked since Wrestle Kingdom, but it’s nice to see him go all-out and look like one of the greatest in the world for the first time this year.  - CIMA’s an awesome opponent for Omega, they seem to operate on similar wavelengths, even their theatricality is similar. - So. Many. Knees. How on earth has CIMA been hitting meteora after meteora for decades? V-Trigger spam was in full, glorious effect. - Uhhh, that one spot, with the meteora onto the little timekeeper table. What in the fuck. The Young Bucks v Brotherhood (***1/2) - Finding a working pace between these two teams was going to be difficult, though Cody’s really been pulling his weight lately and this was no exception, and Dustin is as fluid and dogged as he’s ever been. The Rhodes boys really went for it here, and the clash of styles was definitely rewarding in parts, even as the pace jerked back and forth. - Without much of a story to tell, Cody is sapped of his unique talents as a wrestler. Looking forward to what he can put together when Spears comes knocking down his door again. - The Bucks don’t necessarily need to be telling much of a story but it would’ve helped this match to greatness. It is totally possible these teams could have had a classic. Maybe another time.

AEW Double Or Nothing 2019 Review
We started with the Casino battle Royal, with five guys in the ring. We had Sunny Daze, Michael Nakazawa, Brandon Cutler, MJF and Dustin Thomas. MJF had mega heat by attacking Thomas and calling him lieutenant dan, and then saying that Cutler was a favor to the young bucks. Nakazawa was oiling himself up like crazy, which was super weird to see because I do not know him. Next in was Brian Pillman Junior, Jimmy Havoc, Joey Janela, Shawn Spears and one more guy. Spears immediately went for MJF, and they beat each other up. Next in was Jungle Boy, Glacier, Billy Gunn, Mark Quinn and Ace Romero. MJF got a bunch of heat for eliminating Glacier, after Glacier frozen misted Sunny Daze. Adam Page was the final entrant in the match, and had a warpath. Stunt took a rough pump to be eliminated, as Romero shoved him out through the air and to the floor. Jungle Boy then eliminated Romero, Spears and Thomas had a bit of an alliance, until Thomas pulled him out over the top for the elimination. MJF eliminated crowd favorites Thomas and Cutler. Janela had a disgusting bump through a table on the outside from Luchasaurus, which was very terribble looking. Orange Cassidy showed up for no reason, doing his little kick spots to dreamer before being eliminated in a match that he wasn’t even in. Fun guy though. The final three were Luchasaurus, Adam Page and MJF. MJF hid on the outside, and Page eliminated Luchasaurus. He celebrated winning, but MJF ran in to try to throw him out. Page was okay, and hit the buckshot lariat, and threw him out to win.
Grade: C. This had a lot of fun spots, but there was very little connecting the action. I liked having Page get the win after his match with Pac was cancelled. I think there were a lot of terrifying things happening here, especially that table bump. Janela may be dead, but probably not. I liked the winner and there were some interesting things happening. A fine battle royal, but nothing specacular.
Then we had Kip Sabian vs. Sammy Guevara. This was a fun little cruiserweight match. There was a lot of misdirection based offense, like when Sabian faked a suicide dive only to hit a spring board somersault senton. Sabian locked in a cool looking submission at one point, Guevara went for a moonsault, landed on his feet forth another, only to land on his feet again and hit a standing shooting star for a near fall. At another, Guevara hit a 450 to Sabian while he was on the barricade. In the finish, Guevara went for the 630 senton, only for Sabian to get his knees up and hit deathly hallows for the win.
Grade: B. Fun little spotfest. I think both of these guys are super good, and they can put on some great matches in the future. I’m surprised that Guevara lost given how much emphasis he has had on BTE lately, but that is fine. Both of them are really good, and I’m sure that they will be big talents in the future.
We opened up with SoCal Uncensored vs. StrongHearts. Of course, SCU cut a promo shitting on the town and the LA crowd love it. Both teams were working together really well, with SCU isolating El Lindamen. The match quickly became a cluster of bodies, with each team desperately trying to support any person that they have in the ring. The match felt a lot like the multi-man matches in New Japan, with the partners covering the ring while people are being pinned. The Stronghearts hit an awesome combination of a pop up knee from T-Hawk, followed by an ensiguri from CIMA, a slam from T-Hawk and a german suplex from Lindaman. Everyone started really flying around with dropkicks, suicide dives and cutters. Daniels hit the angels wings for a near fall, followed by a splas hfrom CIMA for a near fall. In the final stretch, Daniels hit the best moonsault ever into the piledriver (called the best meltzer driver ever) for the win.
Grade: A-. Holy crap was this good. So fast paced, lots of action and people flying all over the place. This was a really great match, and if they continue to have tag matches like this one, I will definitely enjoy the tag division in this company. Awesome stuff.
Into the triple threat match, we had Kylie Rae vs. Nyla Rose vs. Britt Baker. However, as match began. Brandi Rhodes came out with her ring gear. She said that she didn’t want a great match, she wanted an awesome one. Awesome Kong then came out, and made it a four way. Kong and Rose immediately squared up and fought a bit. Kong was beating down everyone in the match, but left some room for Rae and Baker to fight. There was a cool spot where Kong caught Baker out of a splash, only for Rae to hit a suicide dive to take them both down. Kong had a huge tower of doom spot, and nearly powerbombed Baker off the apron in another spot, for Baker to fight out, Rae to hit a superkick, and then Rose to hit a spear into the steps. Baker was finally able to get the win with a superkick and the brainbuster on the knee.
Grade: B-. Another car crash of a match. Kong, Baker and Rae all really impressed me. Rose didn’t really impress me, but there were a lot of really nice spots here. I want to see a match between Baker and Rae one on one, that could really be awesome. Can’t wait for the AEW women’s Championship.
Next up was a tag match, Best Friends Chuck Taylor and Trent vs. Angelico and Jack Evans. Best friends went for a hug early on, but their opponents stopped that. Evans and Angelico worked on Trent’s legs, and really showed off their Lucha style of wrestling. Best friends hit a lot of awesome offense, such as a tornado DDT into a double foot stomp to the face. They then also hit a crucifix bomb into the cutter for a near fall. For another near fall, Angelico hit a cruicifix bomb into the corner, followed by a 630 senton, but Taylor broke it up. Taylor took out Angelico with a tope con hilo, and they pinned Evans with a Storm Zero.
After the match, The Best Friends asked for a hug. Angelico and Evans tried to do a handshake, but the Best Friends refused. They hugged, and then the lights went out. A new tag team had emerged after the match, but I didn’t know who they are. They went out again, and there were a bunch of minions that came out to assist. This new team beat down everyone. Evans was hit with a ripcord flatliner, and Trent was hit with a reverse electric chair facebuster.
Grade: A-. I loved this. It was another sprint of a match with a bunch of awesome spots, and some really good tag wrestling.  I always had a soft spot for tag wrestling, and they did a great job here. I liked the attack afterwards, but I don’t know who they were. This tag division looks really great, and I cannot wait to see it start up in full. I felt like Best Friends made sense as the winners, although I predicted otherwise. They will be a united front for a while before picking up the storyline later.
Into the 6-woman Tag, we had Aja Kong, Emi Sakura, Yuka Sakazaki vs. Hikaru Shida, Riho and Ryo Mizunami. Ryo and Aja kong had a little strength vs. strength match, but Ryo really didn’t stand a chance against the legend of Aja. Riho and Emi had some good looking action, doing some technical wrestling before Riho hit an awesome armdrag. Kong drilled Riho with a awesome looking piledriver, but her team broke it up. Ryo drilled Yuka with a great looking deadlift suplex for a near fall. At one point, the ref was distracted, Shida and Kong dueled with a trash bin and a kendo stick. Somehow the kendo stick won. In the finishing stretch, Sakazaki took out Shida and Ryo with a plancha. Kong then accidentlly hit Sakura with a back fist, and then Riho destroyed her with a crossbody. Shida then ran into the ring to pin Sakura with a shining wizard.
Grade: B+. I didn’t know any of these people before the match, and I came out of it as a fan of every single one of them. Their characters are interesting, and I apologize if the review wasn’t great. I was trying to keep track of too many people and learn too many names. But it was awesome, and I hope that they end up joining the AEW women’s division.
Next up was Cody vs. Dustin Rhodes. Before the match, Brandi grabbed a sledgehammer for Cody. Cody then used it to destroy a throne on the stage, officially declaring war on the WWE (it was all a symbol for Triple H). Dustin came out with half face paint. The two circled each other for a while, and the crowd was chanting that it was awesome. Dustin absolutely laid into Cody with some crazy shots, and Cody almost walked away, but managed to get back in the ring. At one point, Cody distracted the ref a bit, which allowed Brandi to hit him in the head with a water bottle. The crowd was so loud for this match. At one point, Cody was set up for the kick to the balls that he used to do, and Cody removed the turnbuckle. Dustin saw, threw the turnbuckle in the crowd, but was then sent face first into it. This “busted him open,” so he bladed. Brandi then speared Dustin, and was thrown out, with DDP carrying her away. Dustin was absolutley gushing blood, and Cody nailed him with a curb stomp for a near fall. Cody nearly whipped Dustin with the belt, but threw it away, only for Dustin to grab it and whip his bare ass with it. Dustin was able to hit a superplex, followed by the final cut, but just for two. Cody then fought back and hit a cross rhodes only for two. Dustin then hit cross rhodes for another near fall. Cody was able to hit his back sliding piledriver, and followed it up with a Cross Rhodes to finish it.
After the match, Cody got on the mic and said that Dustin didn’t get to retire here. The crowd was chanting thank you, but Cody said that he couldn’t retire. He needed a partner for a match against the Young Bucks next month. He said that he didn’t need a partner, he needed a brother. The two started crying, and then embraced. They left the ring together.
Grade: A. This was much much better than I thought it would be. The crowd made the match a hell of a lot better. They were super hot, and it made the emotion and drama increase exponentially. They beat each other down, and the story accompanying it made the match that much better. This was awesome, and I hope we see more matches like this from Cody in the future. This was great, and I hope that it is evident of the type of story telling that will be around in this company.
Then we had the belt presentation, and Bret fucking Hart came out. I marked out like crazy. Hart cut a promo, basically just putting AEW over. He then called out Adam Page, who is one of the #1 contenders for the belt in a few months. MJF then came out, to an asshole chant. He said that they bought a ticket to see him, so they should shut up. He is a phenomenal heel. He called Page a horse, and said that when a horse had a bad leg, you shoot it. Then he said that Page should give up his title shot, and shit on Hart for having a bad catchphrase. Jungle boy then came out, to confront him. MJF called him a prepubescent teenager, and walked past him. Jimmy Havoc then came out, and he was stuck between all three guys. They kicked his ass, through the crowd, as Hart showed the belt for the first time.
Grade: A-. Jesus MJF can talk.  He carried this segment, along with the awesome Bret Hart appearance. This was super good, and I hope that he becomes a big part of the product, because he is phenomenal. I love him. Bret Hart was a shocking appearance, and it was super cool to see him. The belt looks beautiful as well.
Then we had Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros for the AAA World Tag Team Championships. This was given a big fight feel. Young bucks weren’t completely on the same page, having some flubs together early on. Fenix and Nick seemed to be completely evenly matched. the Lucha Bros hit their signature offense early on. At one point, Fenix strung Nick up on the ropes, while using Matt to balance going up to the top rope. Fenix hit a superkick on the top rope, and then springboarded to hit Nick with the hurricanrana. Later on, Matt hit Fenix and Penta with several northern lights suplexes, and nearly locked in a sharpshooter but got shut down. The Bucks were able to lock in the sharpshooters at one point, and they barely got to the ropes. At one point, The Bucks hit a powerbomb and flipping over with a neckbreaker for a near fall.  They then hit a flurry of kicks and chops until everyone fell over. At another, Fenix ducked so that Penta could hit a destroyer on the apron to Matt, followed by a Destroyer to Nick in the ring. Another time had Penta holding Nick in the package piledriver position, with Matt in the gory special, and dropped them down. Fenix followed up with a swanton to Nick for an incredible near fall. Matt then drilled Fenix with a brainbuster on the top rope, and gave Penta more bang for your buck for a near fall again. The Bucks then hit Penta with fear factor, and Nick ran to hit a plancha to Fenix, but still only a near fall. Penta then drilled Matt with the armbreaker and the pentagon driver for a near fall. Fenix started to work the arm, superkicking it, but got caught trying to continue. Matt pulled him up for a Meltzer Driver. Nick then superkicked Penta on the outside, and got up for the Meltzer Driver, and got the win.
Grade: A. This was a phenomenal match. The Young Bucks became a coherent team again, and went through hell to do it. I think that the kickouts at the end were a little much, I like a bit more buildup in my near falls like that, but it was still incredibly exciting. They flew around like crazy, and beat the crap out of each other. It looks like the tag team division in AEW will be awesome.
And finally, the main event. Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega. Winner faces Adam Page for the AEW World Championship. Jericho went through a bunch of his his gimmicks before actually making his entrance. Omega had some new music. They had a cracker barrel in the ring, probably a sponsor. They had trouble getting it out of the ring, so Jericho picked it up and shoved it through the second rope, and then yelled at the ref. The two started out with a slugfest, beating each other down. Early on, Omega tried to do a move off of the barricade, but Jericho pushed Omega into the crowd. Omega was busted open early on, bleeding from the nose. Jericho tried to introduce a table into the match, but Omega dropkicked it, and then a tope con hilo to both. Then he did a springboard double stomp to the table. That was when Omega started up the v triggers, destroying Jericho’s head from the back. At another point, Jericho started to fight back, and dumped Omega out of the ring and through a table. Omega went for a frog splash at one point, but Jericho countered with a codebreaker, but he waited too long for the cover and only got a near fall. Jericho nearly locked in a lion tamer, but Omega countered it and was able to hit a powerbomb for a near fall. Jericho was able to get the walls in, eventually transitioning into a lion tamer, but Omega fought out and nailed a v trigger. Jericho was able to hit yet another codebreaker, but did not go for the pin. Instead, he waited for him to get up, and hit a spinning back elbow called the judas effect for the win.
After the match, Jericho got on the mic. He yelled at them for booing him, and he said that he was the best guy in AEW, he owns the company. He is the biggest star through and through. He claimed that every success the company had was because of him. He demanded that the fans thanked him, and then, mutherfucking Jon Moxley showed up. He killed Jericho with dirty deeds, and then did it to the ref. He tried to hit Omega with hit, but Omega was able to tackle him out of the ring, and they brawled into the crowd. He eventually was able to climb on top of the giant poker chips, and he gave Omega a dirty deeds on the stack, and then slammed him off of it, onto a box that broke.
Grade: A. I bumped that up a grade after the post match angle. This was a great match, although not the best on the card, but that mammoth debut was awesome. In the match itself, it didn’t quite have the same feel as their first match, but they tore the house down nontheless. They were really really good, and I am really unsure of who will be winning the AEW World Championship when that time comes.
Predictions: 5/9. Imma say that I got the battle royal right, cuz I said that Page would win whatever match he was in.
Overall Grade: A-. I’m bumping it up a bit because of the historic nature of the show, and how hot they were coming right out of the gate.
Pros: Guevara vs. Sabian; 6-man tag; best friends vs. angelico & evans; 6-woman tag; cody vs. dustin; belt presentation; AAA tag team championship; main event; moxley debut
Cons: battle royal
Just throwing this in at the end of the review. I normally hate writing the tags for these posts, but I am genuinely so excited to say that I am writing an AEW review right now. Just saying

I ordered a bralette with the blind hope that it MIGHT be big enough in a large to take on my BTE (big titty energy) and it arrived today and I almost had a laughing fit at work when I opened it because literally? I’ve seen more material in one of my makeup wipes
BUTTTTT then I got home and tried it on for fun and ACTUALLY if I put it on over a bra, it stretches enough to look like a really nice chest harness, and I’m over the fucking moon bc it looks super hot on me

ROH Best in the world 2018 Review: Friday June 29, from the UMBC Event Center in Baltimore, Maryland
ROH Six man Tag team titles: The Kingdom vs LIJ:[***]
Not a bad opener to start things off. Crowd into the match and obviously they all cheared for the New Japan Guys, while Matt taven did everything to get hated by the crowd and even mimicked Naito and his famous taunt. As predicted by many of us, Kingdom kept their titles after their rockstar super nova on Bushi and personally it's a smart move as they protected Sanada and EVIL before their rematch with the Young Bucks
Winners AND STILL ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions: The Kingdom
Bully Ray vs Flip Gordon:[*1/2]
On Paper it could have been a good match...on paper tho because it has been pretty bad to be honest. Flip did his best to make the match look good but at the end it just lasted 5 mins, Bully did fuck all and got DQ. Post match beatdown was ok but still it was a bad match overall and i can't honestly understand Bully's stint in ROH thus far. He has done nothing at all, if you don't count all the retirement speeches. Just do something for the sake of wrestling
Winner by DQ: Flip Gordon
Sumie Sakai, Jenny Rose, Mayu Iwatani, and Tenille Dashwood vs. Kelly Klein, Kagetsu, Hana Kimura, and Hazuki:[***]
Not a bad at all from the ladies, even tho it started in a quite sloppy fashion but as it moved on, the match got much better and all the ladies had their time to deliver a good performance. The babyfaces won thanks to a nice tiger suplex with a bridge from Mayu Iwatani on Hana Kimura. Sakai vs Dashwood should be the next title match for the next ROH PPV. And maybe it could be a good time to give the title to Tenille as, in my honest opinion, sumie still has to do something to impress me and the match with the former Emma could be a good time to shine
Winners: Sumie Sakai, Jenny Rose, Mayu Iwatani, and Tenille Dashwood
Austin Aries vs Kenny King:[***1/2]
Getting in the hot part of the card, we have a match that delivered as we expected and that actually told a nice story: Kenny tried to be a friend with Aries while the nowadays Impact World Champion did anything to win: lies, tried to cheat, used every shenenigans in his book to win and he actually made it...the final stretch was really good: kenny went for the royal flush, aries lied and he got saved and then as he rolled him back in the ring, Kenny got rolled up by Aries...few minutes later, roles are switched but Aries did the brianbuster outside of the ring, got rolled up for two but then King raised white flag after a rolling forearm and another brainbuster by Aries. Wondering what ROH has planned for Aries since he can work with both ROH and Impact and it would be cool to see him face the ROH world champ or winning the TV title.
Winner: Austin Aries
KUSHIDA vs Jay Lethal:[****]
In the last couple of months, Lethal went on a quest to beat every guy who beat him in a 1 on 1 match. There was one last guy: KUSHIDA. I was expecting Lethal to be the heel here but it was actually KUSHIDA who stole lethal's move as Black Machismo and even poking fun at him. Really great match between those guys who tore the house down, lots of cool spots, cool storytelling and Lethal won as he should. Now i'd say Lethal goes back in the ROH World Title picture as there is only thing left for him after he beat the guys who beat him in the past. Also it would be a good move to put the belt on him as he is the franchise of the company at the moment. Also, when it was the last time these two guys had a bad match with someone? (and ROH actually did what i said the next day)
Winner: Jay Lethal
Baltimore Street fight for ROH TV Championship: Punishment Martinez vs Adam Page:[***1/2]
So this match felt really weird to me: it was brutal, it had a good storytelling but at the same time it had a two moments where i thought “Why?”. The ziptie stuff was not a good thing for me, because usually when a heel goes for tape, cuffs or zipties during a match, that turns against him (unlike it is in NXT where a heel can win while being handcuffed and also be a great heel) and the ending: Martinez shoulder were DOWN and i'm not even sure that Page had his shoulders down...unless it is a way to set a rematch, this is poor botch, but i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Page is really growing on me, not as a character, but he is getting a really great performer and honestly he deserves a title reign...and if Punishment Martinez won the TV Title (not a fan of him), also Page can and will have a better run for sure #PushHangman
Winner AND STILL ROH TV Champion: Punishment Martinez
ROH Tag Team Championship: Young Bucks vs The Briscoes:[****1/4]
Easily...easily the best match of the night. Young Bucks are on a roll at the moment and they are delivering everywhere they wrestle, even tho this time i felt that The Briscoes weren't on a good day..or maybe it's just me. The match was great and i loved how the Bucks went all out as always to get the W, even Nick's comeback on the outside was really cool and the tried some new stuff like the springboard cutter..Briscoes could have won the match with a Jaydriller on a chair but Matt kicked out and that moment was really cool too...and at the end of the day, they regained with their red neck bogie. Post match we had the champs attacking the Bucks and SCU came in and they attacked the Briscoes and not the bucks as you would expect after a long feud they had, which means something will happen during BTE...and which also means that SCU will get a title shot soon.
Winners AND STILL ROH Tag Team Champions: The Briscoes
3 way for the ROH World Championship: Marty Scurll vs Cody vs Dalton Castle:[***1/2]
New theme for Scurll which i'll link you HERE so you can hear it, because it is a really great work from a guy who makes sick covers. The match was actually good even tho Castle is really banged up with all his injuries and felt very limited, but at the same time, the way they produced it was nice. Booking wise tho not a big fan of the result, even tho some part of the storytelling were great: Aldis helping cody trying to win because he wanted to fight for the ROH title at All in, Marty going after Cody even tho they are part of Bullet Club...but Castle winning and marty being pinned isn't smart at all...i get why Cody didn't win, because he will lose soon to Omega and they want their champ to look good, but at the same time, if your champ is wrestling while injured pretty badly, why not giving the title to Scurll? Castle is a good wrestler and character but his title reign so far has been bad. Wrestling wise ROH always does a great job, but booking wise....
Winner AND STILL ROH World Champion: Dalton Castle
Overall: First ROH Review on the blog and i believe i picked the right event to start because it was really solid and all matches have been good (the Bully Ray vs Flip Gordon i wouldn't even call it a match to be fair). Booking tho has been a bit missing and it's the only downside of a really good event you should check out. Hopefully more great ROH PPVs are on the way [7.5]

let’s talk about kenneth. i was rewatching old BTE episodes because i love to suffer and: 1. kenny is quite manly! like, watching him play basketball... 👀! also, him screaming profanities during beanboozled was oddly very HOT. but he’s also sensitive and reserved most of the times so the dichotomy is super attractive 2. OH BOY, i got really emo when he told cody “i said anyone but him” and he’s wearing a shirt this his real name on it. it felt like those were tyson’s emotions, not kenny.
im finally ready to answer this ask its just im allergic to the idea of “anyone but him” and whenever someone brings it up with me i have to wipe away many tears
1) listen kenny doing athletic things and swearing and just being like... a nice sweaty attractive boy but also having those SOFT CURLS and that soft voice. manly soft kenny boy, what a dream
2) anyone but huim,... oh my god look im go nna go back and watch it just to hurt myself but there is SO MUCH unsaid in his voice and his eyes when he looks at cody, i cant handle it. i can see tyson emotions in there for sure, the lines are really blurred between storyline and reality to me in that era of BTE. it hurts my head to think about ((which is kinda what im trying to write about rn/why im trying this project)) ugh idk guys. man

Paper Moon Part 13
MB - @thecountessakasha here once more. Part 13 is finally finished. There’s a bunch of smut in it to make up for the last chapter.
I’m going to tag a couple people who I’ve told about this and my really special love who keeps betaing this for me @evansscruff - thank you, darling.
A/N: Bucky and Steve end up at a venue that has a 40s night and meet an OFC, Melissa Rose, a singer in a local club. They both are smitten by her, and start to vie for her affections. They end up finding out more about themselves in the process.
This honestly started out as maybe a one shot but as I got going, I decided it’ll be chapters. How many? No frigging idea. This is my absolute first time writing a fic of any sort and yes I did base the OFC on myself. I hope y'all enjoy.
Word count: 3200+ because I am a wordy bitch.
Warnings: Minimal angst. Mega smut. And as always, a lil fluff.
STEVE’S POV
Bucky and I finished cleaning up the kitchen while Melissa was still in the bedroom. We could hear her tearing apart her closet and muttering to herself obviously trying to find the perfect thing to wear to the tower.
“Maybe we should go help her, man. She’s gonna drive herself crazy.” He’s running a hand through his hair and looking at me with his brows knit in worry.
I glance down the hallway as I hear the thud of shoes obviously hitting the wall. “I mean, maybe? I don’t know. I don’t know how to do this. To navigate this.”
Laughing softly, Bucky waves a hand at me. “It’s fine, Steve. I got it.” He gestures to the living room, “Maybe you can clean the rest of this place up while I help her, alright?”
“Alright. That’s sounds like a plan.” I get to work on the living room, straightening up. I didn’t intend to do a deep clean, but as I got into it, I figured I may as well. She deserves the world, but for now a nice clean apartment will do.
While cleaning, I’m also exploring. Learning more and more about her. She clearly values comfort over appearance. An overstuffed couch, two big recliners, an old oak coffee table covered in little nooks and crannies to organize things. Warm and worn hardwood floors, small lamps placed here and there give an inviting atmosphere.
Floor to ceiling windows make up the wall her couch faces. They give a perfect view of the busy city street below. The other three walls are lined with bookshelves that are stuffed to the gills with everything from classics to non-fiction tomes on the Holy Land to current newspapers and magazines.
I run my fingers over the spines of the various books as I dust, feeling as if I can get a sense of her by touching things she obviously holds dear. These books are well loved, well used.
There are pictures in frames everywhere. Family, friends, fans I assume. Her stunning wide smile is ever present in all the ones she’s in. Even those that are clearly her as a child. I love how she’s memorialized these experiences.
Making my way around my eyes land on one that gives me pause. It looks older, like a picture from my time. A beautiful young woman with dark waves, near crystalline eyes, and a small smile that looks as if she’s holding a secret.
She looks so much like Melissa.
I make a mental note to ask her about it.
New Orleans street scenes, shots of the Gulf of Mexico, fleur-de-lis, magnolias, oak trees, pelicans, and stylized skulls in the manner of Dia de Los Muertos make up most of the art pieces that join the photographs littered about her apartment. Nearly every square inch of wall and available table space is covered by something.
I spy a couple of hand woven reed baskets overflowing with spare blankets, a large standing empty ashtray by one recliner, and a huge brass hookah with what looks to be about 4 pipes is in one corner. I’ve never seen her smoke, never tasted it on her. Maybe she has it for guests.
On a little table perched beside one of the recliners is a large, messy stack of sheet music with lyrics handwritten on the pages. I gather the papers, intending to merely put them in a more orderly pile but curiosity gets the better of me and start to thumb through them.
Looking them over, I see she has written little notes for herself near the titles. “Tennessee Whiskey in the style of Chris Stapleton. At Last in the style of Etta James. Between the Bars in the style of Madeleine Peyroux. Hallelujah in the style of k. d. lang. Brave by Jhene Aiko. WWOZ by BTE.” I’m reading them aloud, wondering what they would sound like in her voice.
I come to the next one and my eyes widen, “Fucked My Way Up To the Top by Lana del Rey.” With grin and a shake of my head, I straighten the papers and set them back on the little end table.
“Find something interesting, Steve?”
I nearly jump out of my skin at the proximity of her voice. “Holy shit, Melissa. You can’t sneak up on an old man like that.”
Her head falls backwards as she gives one of her full, loud laughs, “And here I thought you were a super soldier.” She reaches out running a fingernail down my forearm.
Turning to face her, my eyes take her in. “Melissa…you look great.” I can see nearly all of her tattoos, the ones decorating her legs, her arms, her shoulders, a tiny peek of the one down her spine. My knees weaken a bit when I realize I can also see the outline of those delicious little barbells through the material of the dress.
She looks down at her dangerously low cut sundress then back up to me, her cheeks and chest flushing pink at the compliment. She hooks a thumb over her shoulder, “Bucky’s suggestion.”
I see him grinning behind her nodding his head. “As soon as I saw it, stuffed all the way in the back of the closet I might add, I knew that’s what I’d want to see her in. Seems you like it, too.”
“I do!” I grab her in my arms, spinning her around, her feet swinging off the floor. She starts laughing loudly, “Bucky help me!”
“Hey, you’re on your own, Angel. Ya gotta take the consequences for being so beautiful.”
She groans loudly at the cheesy statement. “God, y'all are dorky.” I start to laugh as I plant her back on the floor, taking note of the black strappy sandals adorning her perfectly pedicured feet.
I lean down kissing her gently, taking her a little by surprise. “I was just looking around. I love seeing all the pictures you have.” Gesturing to the one I was most curious about I continue “Who is this beautiful dame? You look an awful lot like her.”
Melissa reaches out for the picture, holding it gingerly in her hands. “My maternal grandmother. She’s the one who gifted me with her knowledge of wartime era fashion. Her and my grandfather taught me all the songs. They also taught me all the dances. Everyone in the family always said I was her spitting image.”
Bucky gives a soft hum of approval, “Then we owe her a great debt.”
She brushes her fingers tenderly over the image. “They all said it was like she’d been made again in me. I was just like her in temperament and personality. Looks, too. Except for one thing.” Her eyes meet mine. “She had ice blue eyes and I ended up with the Irish green from my father’s side.” She shrugs a little.
“And a stunning green they are. My favorite color.” I slide my hands down her arms then take her hands in mine. “Are you ready, doll? I know this is still very overwhelming for you. But we’ll be there. Right beside you. Each step of the way.”
“They’re gonna love you.” Bucky’s low voice comes out muffled as he’s taken up the position standing behind her, his lips attached to one of her exposed shoulders.
She wraps an arm around my waist resting her head on my chest, then pulls Bucky closer behind her. “If you two think you’re ready, then I’m ready. I won’t say I’m not scared. I am. But some things in life take risk. And I believe you two to be worth that risk.” Her eyes find mine as she speaks the last sentence, and I can see the worry. I can also see how sincere and how heartfelt her words are.
“Merci, Maîtresse.”
“Thank you, Angel.”
BUCKY’S POV
While I make Steve clean her apartment, I quietly slide into her bedroom. What I see makes me stop in my tracks. She has torn apart her closet, her dressers. Shoes and clothes are strewn everywhere.
She’s sitting on the floor, back against the bed looking on the verge of tears. “Angel? Melissa? Are you alright?”
Shaking her head she gestures toward the room, “I have nothing to wear. I can't… I can’t go to the tower. I can’t meet the team. They’re your family, Bucky. I need to make a good impression.” Her voice is small, soft, tinged with fear.
I sit on the floor beside her and gather her in my arms, “Hey, hey. It’s ok.” My fingers slide up the sides of neck and I cup her cheeks turning her face to mine. “Listen to me. You’re beautiful. No matter what you wear, you are beautiful. I want you to be comfortable. That’s my main concern.”
“It’s going to be enough of a shock to them about you and Steve. When they meet me and realize the part I play in this, they’re going to hate me.” She’s trembling as she says these words. “And so are your adoring fans. I just …I don’t fit the bill. Not to mention when we go public with our relationship. People won’t be able to handle it.”
I tighten my grip on her. “Melissa, we are all adults here. This is our choice. So what if people don’t like it? They don’t live our lives.” My thumbs brush her cheeks. “And Steve and I want you. More than that, we need you. Neither he nor I have felt as good in our lives as we have since you came along. It fits. You fit. You belong with us.”
She seems as if she has some reply, some counter, but she closes her mouth and just looks at me. Really looks at me. After a moment, she places her hand on my chest and shakes her head. “Oh, Bucky.”
Seeing her like this, I’m overcome. She is perfection and she just doesn’t believe it. I give a shake of my head and suddenly I’m pressing my lips to hers. Her eyes widen a second then she’s kissing me back, sighing softly into my mouth. Her small hands grab for me, tugging at my shirt.
My fingers slip into her robe, pushing it off her shoulders to let it pool around her hips. I’m groaning against her skin as I move from her lips to her jaw making my way to her chin. “How can you not see that? How can I make you understand?”
She’s melting under my touch, her fingers slipping into my hair pulling me close. My lips move against the hollow of her neck, “Everything about you makes me crave more and more.” My tongue darts out licking along her collarbone, teeth nipping at the muscle connecting her neck and shoulder.
I have never heard such delicious sounds from anyone in my life.
“Bucky…” she’s whining. “I have to get dressed, baby boy.” I slip my hand lower, the backs of my knuckles just barely brushing against the wetness between her legs.
I growl against her neck, “But you’re soaking for me, Angel. How can I resist?” My fingers part her folds and I find her little swollen bundle of nerves, pressing against it lightly.
A gasp falls from her lips and I bring my left hand up to cover her mouth. “Shhhhh, lover.” She gives a little whimper as I pull her onto my lap, and I quickly shimmy my sweats down. My hardness slides against the damp heat between her legs making me groan.
Our lips crash together, the kiss all tongues and teeth. She wraps her body around mine as I slide into her, sheathing myself fully. “Oh fuck…” she whispers, her forehead pressing against my chest. Her fingers glide into my hair and she yanks my head back forcefully, her eyes meeting mine.
The gaze is heated, longing and we stare at each other for a moment before her hips start to move a bit, letting me know it’s ok to begin. I grip her ass, fingers digging into her flesh as I start the push pull of her on my cock.
“Quickly, baby boy. Harder…” She has one hand still tightly wrapped in my hair, tugging. Her other raking nails down my back filling me with a shiver of sweet pleasure at the pain. Her hips rock in time with my thrusts.
I take one hand and slip it between us, finger tripping over her clit in small circles as I keep thrusting up into her. “That’s it Bucky baby… yes just like that..fuck I’m close…”
She bites into my shoulder to muffle her screams as her orgasm washes over her. “Fuck Angel you’re so Goddamn tight…!” and I’m spilling into her, her climax setting off mine. We shudder together then still, breathing heavily wrapped up in each other’s arms.
“I hope I didn’t break your skin.” She laughs darkly, licking the spot where she bit me.
I snort, “Somehow I don’t think you’ll lose sleep over it if you did.” I pull back and place a kiss on the tip of her scrunched up nose. “Now, where were we? Oh yes. Let’s find you something to wear.”
MELISSA’S POV
Yep. The death of me.
I’m dressed in a rather revealing sundress that Bucky picked out. The bodice of which is a deep blue that fades into a lovely aqua by the time it reaches the hem resting just above my knees. I’m not sure I’m entirely comfortable with it. I do love these strappy gladiator style sandals that wrap up and around my calves, though.
Both he and Steve have assured me I’ve never looked more beautiful and that it’s the perfect thing to wear for the “mission” we’re undertaking. If they are happy, then I am happy.
They’re currently my giant bookends as we walk the few blocks toward the tower, arms linked, chatting between ourselves. Occasionally they’ll lean over me and peck little kisses on each other’s lips and it makes my heart swell.
I look up at each of them just before we reach the tower. A little gasp comes from me as I get choked up, teeth pressing harshly into my bottom lip. “Y'all. Can we just …can we hold up for a second?”
They stop immediately looking down at me as I stare at the massive building across the street from us. My eyes move from the bottom all the way to the top spire and the gigantic A adorning it.
I’m taking slow, deep breaths. Steve moves in front of me, fingers sliding around the back of my neck, thumb brushing my cheek. “It’s ok, Melissa. I promise. We promise.” I feel Bucky’s arm around my waist, squeezing my side reassuringly.
“I trust you. Both of you.” I reach for Steve, kissing him hard. Pulling away from him I turn and do the same with Bucky. I close my eyes, once again taking several deep breaths. My hands clench and unclench. After a long moment I link my arms into each of theirs and give a sharp, quick nod of my head. “Alright. Let’s do this.”
Stepping off the curb and crossing the street we make our way into the lobby. A couple of quick turns, a couple of quick hellos to random employees and we reach a deserted corridor. A female voice comes from somewhere, greeting the boys.
“Captain Rogers. Sergeant Barnes. Glad to see you’re back.”
Steve pipes up, “F.R.I.D.A.Y., we’ve brought a guest. She’ll be visiting often. Her name is Melissa Rose. Can you please set up a profile for her?”
A profile? What the fuck…?
As Steve speaks to this… F.R.I.D.A.Y., Bucky realizes I’ve frozen in place. His fingers link through mine and he runs a hand down my arm, “It’s ok. It’s just a matter of precaution. We want you to be safe here. And that requires some security measures.” He brings my hand to his lips, placing a feather light kiss on my palm.
“Of course, Captain Rogers.” Steve guides me to a wall with scanners and such on it. “State your name, please, ma'am.”
“Melissa Anne Rose.”
“Now, please step forward and place your hand against the plate. Lean in and keep your eyes open so that I may scan those as well.”
At least her voice is comforting. I do as she asks, giving her a scan of my right palm as well as my eyes. Suddenly, red beams are scanning my whole body. After a few seconds, she speaks again.
“Thank you, Ms. Rose. I have everything I need.”
“O..okay.” I turn to the boys, “Well, now y'all know everything, huh?” my lips quirking into a small smirk as they laugh.
“Come on, Angel. Let’s head up.” Bucky takes my hand, pulling me to the elevator as Steve follows.
“Lounge floor, F.R.I.D.A.Y., if you please.”
“Of course, Captain Rogers.”
The elevator doors close and suddenly they’re both pressing against me. Steve has his face buried in the crook of my neck as he’s pushing me back against Bucky’s chest. “You look so beautiful, it’s been hard keeping my hands to myself.” He paws at me, making my knees weak. Bucky is holding me up, keeping me steady on my feet as Steve takes advantage of the small space.
I feel his thumbs scratch against the material covering my nipples and it’s then he realizes I’m not wearing a bra. He tugs lightly on the barbells, grinning against my neck. “Melissa… you’re so naughty.”
“This dress doesn’t have a need for a bra, mon petit Capitaine.” I feel Bucky’s hands on my hips, gripping them tightly as Steve growls against my neck. His hand travels down reaching the hem of the dress. He tugs then lifts it slightly, rubbing his fingers against my clothed core. I immediately start to soak through the flimsy cotton, my knees buckling, “Shit, Steve.”
I hear Bucky chuckle darkly behind me. “What’s wrong, Angel?”
“You know Goddamn well what’s wrong, Sergeant.” Steve takes advantage of Bucky distracting me to slip two fingers inside the waistband and into my dripping cunt. “Steve! Fucking hell…”
“Oh god, Maîtresse. You’re soaking.” He quickly kneels down, his strong arms parting my legs as Bucky continues to hold me up. I feel Steve’s tongue press against the fabric covering me, then he roughly pulls it aside to assault my folds with his mouth.
I cry out loudly which brings Bucky’s hand to cover my mouth. “Quiet, Angel. No need to arouse suspicion.” He drops his mouth to my neck, nibbling and licking as Steve devours my pussy. His grunts and groans sending vibrations all through my body.
I cum hard and quick, all over Steve’s talented mouth, my screams muffled by Bucky’s hand. I release Steve’s hair, which I had bunched tightly in my right hand, and he stands after fixing my underwear and my dress. Licking his lips, he grins, leaning in to kiss me. God I love tasting myself on their tongues.
He then grabs Bucky over me, kissing him hard so that they share my flavor. I feel Steve’s hand on my breast, tugging gently at the barbell there through the fabric of my dress. I giggle softly, trying to fix his hair.
Separating as the doors open to the lounge floor, we exit the elevator with huge smiles plastered on our faces. As we step into the large room, the boys grab my hands in theirs as they bracket me. Steve gives a wave to the room.
“Hey guys.”

My eyes move from the bottom all the way to the top spire and the gigantic A adoring it.
“Hey guys.”

AEW ALL OUT
Last of the all-hype pre-TV cards for AEW largely delivers, but ‘when are they gonna get to the fireworks factory’ looms over everything.
- Really need that weekly show, glad we’re not doing this again. Exhibition feel really knee-capped a couple of otherwise fine matches. Through the first four official AEW events I’ve noticed a sense of ‘well let’s wait for TV to see how they sort this out’ re: the women’s division, integrating the joshi, building up to matches outside of youtube, and the production hiccups. We won’t know until we know, but little has changed since Double or Nothing. - Production is still very work-in-progress, camerawork has this loose and improvisational feel that failed to capture a score of (one assumes) nice shots, entrance music is still way dialed down and it feels like a lot of themes lack anything resembling the ol’ glass shattering cue to incite a pop.
*Pre-Card Casino Battle Royal (N/R) - I think we can safely conclude this format is not conducive to a good time. The shared entrances preclude individual pops and confuse the issue of when the action starts. I assume some of the women turned on each other on the ramp, but the entrances are so casual (and camera work so frenetic) everything is sloshed together. Match was subsequently very incoherent, barely got a shine out of talent like Jazz, Nicole Savoy, Big Swole and Faby Apache. Bit let down by who wasn’t there (Delilah Doom, Shotzi, random Joshi stars -- where’s Yuka at?) but it’s fun to chant ODB and see Ivelisse and Awesome Kong. - Mercedes Martinez as the joker was a moment and a good omen, hopefully she’s gonna have a run in the division. - I’ve seen Nyla Rose do some cool things but she didn’t look good for a lot of those twenty minutes.  Private Party v Los Gueros Del Cielo (***) - This is hands down the best ‘buy-in’ match from the first four shows, the bar is low but this killed. High energy flippy shit with some classic tag team reversal of fortunes. Private Party is a great find, and they have one of the few themes that sticks. - I love Jack Evans playing to the first couple rows with his trash talk, reminds me of Kevin Owens caring little that it doesn’t play on TV, he’s still gonna jibber-jabber. *Main-Card SCU v A Boy and His Dinosaur & Marko Stunt (**1/2) - SCU are relishing this curtain-jerking business, which I love. Scorpio Sky’s ascendance to ‘guy who can hang with consummate professionals CD and Kaz’ has had the odd side effect of making him into ‘guy who could have a singles run,’ though maybe that’s got a lot to do with how charismatic he’s been on BTE (doesn’t hurt that he’s 13 years younger than Daniels.) - Luchasaurus is a big big star. ‘Jungle Jack Perry’ (Thanks, JR) is probably also that. Really interested to see how their popularity shapes the tag division.  - I enjoy Marko Stunt on a gut level but the commentary team couldn’t plausibly dance around the fact that a guy his size needs to be literally Rey Mysterio for this match to have ended any other way, so it was a bit hard to buy-in all the way. Kenny Omega v PAC (***1/2) - With the lack of build, the lack of hype, the lack of story and the lack of history between these two, two of the best wrestlers in the world still managed to put on a surprisingly fluid exhibition, save a couple missed spots. A couple tremendous reversals and surprises sets up what could be a very nice feud with a bit of investment.  - Ultimately didn’t like it as much as Kenny’s match with CIMA, though I’m all-in on ‘the best bout machine’ having trouble establishing himself in AEW, the finish was brilliant. Darby Allin v Joey Janela v Jimmy Havoc (***) - Barrel spots, skateboard spots, weapons galore, whole lot of don’t try this shit at home... I mean this is exactly as advertised, if you’re going to do a schlocky hardcore match here’s how you ought to do. Three competitors keeps the pace brisk, and someone like Darby Allin, who has athleticism in abundance, allows for a different sort of holy shit moment than Janela or Havoc. Total deathwish. Best Friends v The Dark Order (**1/2) - Still really hard to make sense of the Dark Order as in-ring performers. They’re not stand-outs in either direction, and while I like the idea of the creeps, the gimmick has yet to gel. Grayson seems more than capable but Evil Uno seems a bit ‘local indie’ thus far. I may be being completely unfair.  - Huge pop for Orange Cassidy. Huge pop for the hands-in-pockets suicide dive. Hikaru Shida v Riho (**1/2) - I know there were some serious stakes here (A championship match for a very pretty belt!) but I really want to know something about either of these women aside from Riho’s extensive experience and Shida’s enthusiasm for swords. - Match was pretty good, really. Not as good as some of the 5 ✪ GP matches from the last week but that’s not super fair (Nor is imagining Konami, Kagetsu, Mayu or Hazuki in AEW. But imagine!) - Do I think either of Riho or Nyla Rose are a particularly exciting inaugural Women’s Champion? Not at this point. Cody Rhodes v Shawn Spears (**1/2) - After a summer of loving Cody matches, I... I mean I liked this match. Cody is sports entertaining as hell. I really could’ve done without Pharaoh getting spooked by the pyro, but Cody being extra-AF with his entrances is still fun otherwise. Spears’ taste in entrance gear has not improved all this time, and the song seems... at odds with what he’s presenting himself as. - Ultimately Cody wasn’t wrong. Spears is a good hand. He is zero percent a star held down for too long by the WWE. For every Cody or Juice Robinson there’s a bunch of Shawn Spears’. I guess that could sound villainous, but truth is a babyface. Maybe find Spears a tag partner? - DOUBLE A! ARN ANDERSON! SPINEBUSTER! NEVERMIND - FIVE STARS! Lucha Brothers v Young Bucks Escalera De La Muerte Ladder Match (****1/2) - Yikes.  - Dios mio. - Seriously, let’s keep these two teams away from each other for awhile, I want to see them live long prosperous lives. - Mask spot was brilliantly done. Penta’s trash talk was in peak form. The Young Bucks and ladders, name a more iconic duo. Classic ‘go for the belts or go for the insane stunt’ moment for the Bucks, who cannot and will never be able to help themselves. As good a ladder match as I’ve seen since Ladder War VIII, possibly since VI. Chris Jericho v Hangman Adam Page for the AEW Championship (***1/2) - Say what you will about latter-day Y2J and his dad-bod, he understands what he’s doing better than just about anybody, he’s one of the best wrestlers at-48 I can think of (certainly having a better year than Ric Flair had at the same age.) He put Hangman over huge. He put Aubrey Edwards (his backstage pick of official) over huge.  - Page did some cowboy shit and brought a horse down the ramp for his entrance, which also puts him over as the kind of big star who can do that kind of nonsense. - Jericho’s knockout elbow took a while to get over but I think we’ve solidified it with that blow to Page, it ends matches in a hurry, it’s a great reversal and Jericho can plausibly pull it off regardless of condition.  - Any doubts about the wisdom of strapping the title to Jericho have to have evaporated in the wake of this.
