The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S.Lewis . I love Narnia, and re-reading the series has been so lovely, but sweet baby Aslan, was this one just that little bit too much more vapid and meandering than it should. Caspian is trying to find seven lost lords, which (spoiler alert) he does, but each discovery just felt coincidental. All he’s got to go on is that they sailed East, yet every island they stop at, they find someone. I’m sure you could argue that Aslan is guiding them or whatever even when he’s not physically guiding them, but that’s such a cop-out. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the book. Eustace is a dick in the best way and then there’s awesome fantasy settings, the Gold Pond in particular, but it’s all just a bit... meh. There’s no real climax and nothing much learned other than the fact that Aslan changes his favourite Child of Adam and Daughter of Eve like he’s changing underpants, and really, really REALLY wants people to worship him. Still, it won’t stop me from reading the next book. . #thevoyageofthedawntreader #cslewis #thexhroniclesofnarnia #narnia #minimonotonebookclub #booksivereadin2021 #booksivedrawnin2021 #booksreillustrated #bookstagram #houlart #houl (at Narnia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP1VeUJhOyX/?utm_medium=tumblr
