Eioyi has a bunch of underrated chanse/damien moments. Damien offering to eat food Chanse may not like and the Halloween ep with Chanse going "It's too big, it's too big Damien!" (ayo, pause). That same ep Damien offered Chanse the M&Ms because he was dressed as Miles Morales. Rly cute.

I believe that episode where Damien offers to eat the food with him was Chanse's first time on EIOYI, no? Just makes the moment even sweeter for me :')

That being said, that made me have a little headcanon(?) about them: idk if Chanse is the type to leave food on a plate or share his food much, but let's say that maybe if he can't finish a meal, Damien (if he's around) is like his go-to for being like "hey would you like to eat this?" and Damien will happily eat it? You know what I mean? I feel like they would share food (especially with Damien being down to eat most things)

I swear this took me least two hours to actually watch fully from start/stopping for quotes and going back for context and then I had to pause for a few minutes while I made dinner. But that was incredibly cathartic, I must say. I feel like I’ll be ready to do a deeper dive on the podcast in the coming days but for now here are my thoughts as I watched.

YEAH. like i super enjoyed the sukuna beatdowns two episodes back 2 back but esp the mahoraga battle as epic as it was it was just. too much. nothing except maybe two or three shots of it (the streetlight screen one + nge pose...) have stayed in my memory. + the general issue of shibuya fights being completely untethered from any stakes which,, again might just be culling game poisoning my perception bc binging the manga all of this fucked but it definitely doesn't work on a week to week presentation esp not if you are aware of the culling game disaster lurking on the horizon. anwy the point. compare that to frieren which (unfair ik. but) every frame a painting and fight scenes are so incredibly well choreographed but also short enough 2 stand out in an episode. i rly rly rly think the visual noise comment hits on smth that has been bothering me with these big spectacle episodes & it's not like they are something new per se. there is always the climactic battle of the arc that you can look forward to going hard as fuck & maybe that is simply not compatible with high octane arcs like shibuya or fkcin. csm as a whole bc lord knows once we hit quanxi/hell devil there will not be a calm frame on the screen for weeks. but the solution is not 2 burn animators into suicide and have all non-battle content (understandably) look like it was drawn on a typewriter a week prior and after. animation has just become too polished and ngl idk how the frieren production goes behind the scenes. we all remember wonder egg priority. contrasting jjks mappa with frieren (madhouse) is just thematically funny given their history & the jjks visual noise comment stands whether or not it is ethically produced (which it isn't) so like. all these animators are being put thru the wringer just to produce sakuga for sakuga's sake bc mappa has decided to multitrack draft every single major shounen release & then some absolutely stoned out of their mind on hubris and as good as some of it looks. it isn't even all that good!!!!!!!!!!! lol

I agree, the idol does not deserve the shit it’s getting. Like wtf why are we sooo sensitive to art these days. Art is supposed to bring up intense feelings and address difficult subjects. That’s literally it’s purpose! Just watched ep 2 and it was amazing. I think it depicts female trauma in such a raw, brutal and beautiful way. Lily is so good. Rachel sennott is too. Rlly excited to see where it goes.

i just think the moral outrage is bizarre. like i dont understand the controversy. i dont understand how its more controversial and offensive then most other shows on HBO. like really what is the big deal like whats the actual issue? i rly feel like ive missed something tbh bc i cant figure it out. maybe theres been some inside drama within the production? idc about that tho as long as theres no abuse going on bc i know what its like to work with a crew and be part of film productions and the dynamics (nowhere near this huge level tho lol on a waaay smaller scale ofc since i was just a film student in school making school productions) and there is always head butting and conflict and stress and some disagreements like thats natural like ive had screaming matches with dudes in my class during filming for stupid little differences in how to go about certain scenes and shots etc but thats nothing imo as long as it works out in the end and no one gets harmed. but as a viewer i just focus on the end product aka the show/movie in itself not the production side of it like that very rarely plays a role in how i form an opinion on a show or movie or my enjoyment of it

also i have a huge crush on rachel sennott and i had no idea she was in the cast so i was very pleasantly surprised when i saw her lol like even if the show turns out to suck ill still watch just to get me some rachel time sorry not sorry

i watched the finale again and all i can say is what ive been saying for the past year which is jenkins wishes he had an hour long slot (and the story needs around 45 mins-an hour to really shine imo) but got a half hour slot bc haha silly comedy show should be 20 mins and that's why the pacing feels continuously off. and the thing is that season 1 had MUCH better pacing than this. yes it had some of the same issues but it wasnt THIS bad, and i do partly put the onus on the shorter season being a huge factor, which in turn shouldve resulted in a different approach for the story. the funny bits honestly couldve been shaved down to help with the continuity + pacing issues i noticed (like izzy's injury, ed and stede meeting on the beach - it's a real shame it's during the most climactic and gripping moments where things get rly wonky). from an editing standpoint there are moments in the finale that are literally hard to watch. some great scenes, but too many jarring ones to count - again the comedic bits are just too drawn out, and if anything they pull away from the sincerity of some of the scenes (the only scene that remains sincere is izzy's death thank god but man do i wish more of the ep was handled differently). the shot blocking is rly awkward at times and i can even see where there's obvious shots MISSING that im sure were probably storyboarded properly. those in-between moments that are clearly missing from the final edit were 100% cut for time which sucks bc it doesnt give your brain the chance to catch up to what's going on from one moment to the other. yes this is a silly little pirate show but the best silly little comedies still have good writing, editing, scene blocking and pacing and that's what makes them memorable. 'good' filmmaking isnt just reserved for dramas.

op 1: KICK BACK tbh wasnt a massive fan of the song when i came out but its grown on me w the full context & lyrics it slayed idc NOW THE VISUALS ... filled me w euphoria when i first saw it have (re)watched half the fucking movies referenced ONLY BC MIDTERMS WAS BEATING MY ASS .. so creative and fun and dynamic and hectic as fuck the timing and directing on this is like incomprehensibly good. its funny asf and has such beautiful lively enviornments and lighting and such a cohesive feel despite how batshit everything is NO ONE HAS TALKED ABT THE SHOT W THE MOUNTAINS AND SKY AND THE BULLETS. AM I THE ONLY OEN WHOSE INSANE ABT THAT ONE. so so beautiful literally a look into the minds of fujimoto and the ani staff and a gift upon this earth. 10/10

ed 1: SUCH A GOOD SONG !!!!!!! fit super well w the end of the first ep & is just genuinely such a banger. credits roll was smart for the airing of the actual ep, helped me take in the whole ep and appreciate the best parts of it. the mv released on mappas channel is rly solid considering it just recycled scenes from the actual ep !! love first half of the vid + the zoom in on pochitas tail the most ofc !! 6/10 bc the song is a banger but its just no as obsessable bc of the lack of og visuals :(

ed 2: GORGEOUSSS VISUALS tho it doesn’t feel v well aligned w the tone of csm BUT STILL !!!! song aligns super well w the visuals atleast & i love love the look of the animation, the environments especially are so beautiful 😭 i think the denji falling into the sky scene were especially well timed w the music and made me v emo about his character. esp love the hayakawa fam focus and how power is literally the one who PULLS HIM BACK DOWN .. beloveds 7.5/10 ok i like it picasso

ed 3: FAVE SONG its so good. so much to say abt this one rapid change of scene linework shading color sfx is fucking insane each unique aes makes me physically ill its so good. so gripping the TRANSITION from makima goddess to hayakawa fam W THE DOOR. AND THE TRAUMA. fave part is the hayakawa family shots towards the end that combined w the lyrics perfectly encapsulates what csm is thematically to me. goretastic insanity used as a means of making the intensely human obviously doomed connections at the heart of the story that much more impactful. fully embraces the best parts of csm and rips my heart out all in the course of 90 seconds 10/10 idc idc

ed 4: POWAAA !!!! song is such a fucking banger i mean it this shit has had me dancing for weeks BUT THE VISUALS .... so dynamic and insane love how they played dress up w her and also made sure the audience knew she was a lil freak. theres so much to love and appreciate about the visuals and how fucking sick the movements are and the colors but truly this ones just vibes. 9/10

ed 5: fs my FAVE of all the ones currently out (i think this is the most popular opinion lmao) but the combination of the frantic, very dense visuals and a rly cool fast paced song scratched smth in my brain. so much inspiration to dig through and BEAUTIFUL use of colors, lighting, and effects animation omg. Those shots of himeno are stapled on the inside of my eyelids i love them. so many art references w/ a great selection to specifically represent the chaos of the eternity devil love the use of optical illusions (ONCE AGAIN W THE LIGHTING !!!) and use of timing to create a jarring effect (horses running in slo mo (same w some shots of the chs) immediately being contrasted w rapid movement/blinking of eyes, fireworks, shots of the sky w the clouds racing across) as well as the rapid changing of one shot to another is so insane. another detail i love is that it has a almost collage like look bc each background/piece of ch or effects animation has dif linework, uses dif brushes, as well very unique lighting and shading. also so so much to dissect w how it foreshadows later events (if u start looking there are like. 4 dif instances of guns in this bitch holy fuck) and the themes of the work as a whole but i have classes a life etc that will have to wait til winter break. so genuinely obsessed w this one it was literally the one that convinced me (most obnoxious csm fan) that mappa knows exactly what theyre doing and are likely making the actual anime the way they are as a deliberate commitment to make it even more insane later down the line. i am a drastic rapid tonal shifts enjoyer i love this ed 10/10 its my gf

ed 6: not a massive fan of the visuals or the song for this one :( the instrumental of the song felt kinda jarring after the sequence of denji jumping into the eternity devils mouth, i was def expecting a dif kind of vibe. the visuals were cool, but i don't feel like the static characters were used particularly well. some of the transitions and “camera” movements also rly didn't feel very well suited to the cuts they were in. my fave part was the settings and backgrounds, especially the textures and the way the movement “through” the bgs were done, tho the 5th ed had a very similar concept and i think executed it better. kind of disappointing with how much i enjoyed the prev eds, but it was still enjoyable to watch and analyze how they constructed the visuals. 4/10 bc i respect what they were trying to do i just dont think they had the time to develop a unique vision

I don't like any of the surreal, drawn-out, misty sequences interspersed with fight scenes. I mean the waterborne abyss. I mean this forest fight. I mean a chunk of yi city. I mean the maze forest. I just hate the hazy atmosphere and there's usually no good character moments and there's a ton of worldbuilding magic that I can't follow very well and don't rly care for

this fight isn't bad tho! there's some fun banter and some cool angles, like the one above

as much as I complain about him as a character I was THRILLED to see this little guy. I LOVE baby a-yuan and I think he's just precious. his survival was one of the things I needed to be spoiled for in order to watch the show without significant distress

though given the timeline this can't be a-yuan...he'd be way too old by the time the post-sunshot timeline rolls around. that's at least two years later. so I guess this is his older sister who looks the same as him. god but that's a cute little actor. love him and his big chubby cheeks and his little fingers and his baby wig

GREAT choice for little wn and wq too. they look just like their adult versions. actually I think the casting for all the kids versions of the adult characters was perfect except for a-yuan doesn't look a great deal like lsz imo

literally seconds apart. I fucking give up. and I don't think it's the translations because this has been a consistent issue in all the versions I've watched. it's 10! wq and wn are clearly around the age of the others so it's not 20

remember that post that's like 'jc: lady wen may I rub thine shoulders? massage your feet? feed you grapes? vs. wwx and wq doing a six-step handshake and laughing together' that NAILED it. jc trying to be attentive and gentlemanly bc he views her as a Woman and he's trying to fulfill the role he understands to be expected of him, as a man, in society ( to Intervene and Protect). meanwhile wwx views her as an independent actor in this shitty situation they're in. dgmw wwx is also sexist but he treats women more like human people than jc does, esp wq. he also thinks out of the box and isn't afraid to challenge social norms, unlike jc who's guided by social expectations because his parents haven't given him strong positive role modeling and he doesn't have strong instincts on how to behave outside of what he's been taught by society in general

but like I said. still sexist. it's not like being a creative and original thinker can save him from Living In A Society

lwj is very polite to wq, as he appears to be to all women, but I don't think he'd get close with any women because he doesn't get close with anyone at all. also I don't think he meets many women so he doesn't have much interaction with them outside of professional and impersonal settings so they've been at an arm's length from him since he mama died

jc is consistently so unpleasant to wwx. like would it kill you to be supportive of your brother when he's trying to solve a mystery. for ONCE

I love wq but jyl is probably my favorite female character

so. i really wanted to like house of the dragon, and i still do, and i enjoyed the last episode while i was watching it. but. im rly starting to have some issues with the writing

i was already not v pleased w how they are handeling the time jumps and the things they have cut out (they should have made the season just a bit longer, 12-14 ep and this would have been fixed and not felt so crammed) but. idk if its because someone new wrote this episode? (and they wrote for GoT ripppp) many things in this episode in retrospect either felt off or made no sense

the beggining scene, for one. i can,, live w the decision to make daemon the one to kill her even though thats not how i interpreted the books (why would he take the chance to have her cling to life for 9 days??). but it just felt weirdly written and shot from the beggining.... uhm. as someone who knows horses. that was some weird horse behavior for what seemed to be a calm one, and a weird way for a horse to rear and fall. also, again, was daemon rly gonna walk away if she hadnt taunted him..? and risk her telling someone? this man cant make plans for shit but he doesn't half ass murder

and later on, the whole criston thing. why is that man not getting Any sort of consequences?? hes not just some drunk lord fistfighting, he is kingsguard. He just brutally killed the highborn guest of the second most powerful house in the kingdom... even if we didnt see what happened and idk somehow Joffery started it so Cole was technically allowed to have a go at him... it still makes no sense why none of the other guards stopped him, or at the least siezed him after.?? is it because viserys fainted and didnt interve...? did alicent protect him..? even so I find it hard to believe the Hand, or the Valeryons, or anyone else wouldn't have done Something - at least siezed him and waited the kings decision - other than let him roam free like nothing happened?

I am really liking the direction of love like a galaxy! I think this is zhao lusi’s best role yet. What are your thoughts on it so far?

i think the direction is mostly decent honestly one of the major issues for me watching cdramas is editing and direction bc the general standard is super inconsistent (comparitively to k or jdramas) afaiw so its kinda rare for me to watch a cdrama where story, direction AND editing come together perfectly so as long as its not taking me out of the story im not mad and for LLTG other than a few moments here and there i think its overall fine now that ive had a few eps to settle into it.

i was so right for LLTG to be one of my most anticipated dramas like i don't think its gonna win any awards for its writing and its pretty formulaic but im having fun with it for what it is and it hasn't let me down with its premiere. i think out of everything the drama rly nails its comedic moments and it very much focuses on its female lead's story so bonus for that.

this might just be a personal expectations vs reality issue but i was hoping for a bit more subtley and nuance? but its super straightforward almost to the point where it feels a bit too on the nose for me? i feel like a lot of the dialogue and situations are repetitive esp. in terms of niao niao and her mom's relationship. eg. niao niao constantly mentioning how unfortunate her situation is and how unlucky she is. as a viewer I GET IT!!!!!! i've been able to get a feel for how fucked up her childhood was and how it fucked her up in the process. it was fine the first couple of times but now im starting to roll my eyes when its said over and over again like i wish u woukd just let me read between the lines instead of spelling it out for me everytime. i rly think the writers need to be a little more subtle when it comes to the dialogue like when they create situations to show how much of an outcast niao niao is and feels in her family/out in society, i don't need her to constantly reiterate the point by talking abt how unlucky she is and how she had no one to teach her and how her mom hates her I'VE SEEN ALL THAT AND ITS ALL BEEN MENTIONED B4 ALREADY!!!! and it starts to get annoying when im supposed to feel bad for her. im not an idiot and its easy to make me feel for her if the scenes just focused on her reactions and then peppered in her thoughts that reflected her disappointment/lack of affection. even with the mom, at this point u can make a shot game with the number of times she says that ONE SPECIFIC LINE abt yang yang being better than niao niao like its getting tiring pls 😑 at least show some variety in her dissatisfaction with niao niao.

also i was rly hoping for an interesting mother daughter dynamic and maybe just even a little more insight into the mom on being forced to separate from her infant daughter her entire life to come home to this stranger that she doesn't approve of. i wouldn't mind her disapproval and could look at her cruelty towards niao niao from a more critical(?)/understanding perspective IF i could see more conflict and range in her feelings towards niao niao esp. when she learns her daughter was esssentially abused her entire life but rn its just so 1D (even though we can see glimpses of her.......affection for niao niao her disapproval is just so overwhelmingly cruel towards her abused, love starved daughter) so super disappointed there it rly could've been so delicious 😔 if there was a balance btw loving her daughter but also not knowing how to love the person she's become plus dealing with the guilt of being unintentionally complicit in her abuse by abandoning her (also!!! i feel like neither of her parents really address or understand her experience with the severity of having to grow up in that house as an abandoned child under her aunt and grandmother as abuse and just that "she wasn't taught well". like if i came back after years to my child in that state i would've burned that house to the ground).

for the romance i still remain of the opinion that i would've liked someone slightly more mature looking as the general BUT after having had time to sit with wu lei in the role i love his take on the "only soft for his love interest" trope. plus he looks so good together with lusi its a win for me. i love one woman men i love men who will devote everything they are to their wife (actually i respect the writers for writing in so many wife men in this drama). i haven't watched all of lusi's projects so idk if i can say this is her best and qian qian from tiger and rose will always have a special place in my heart but this will def go down as one of my stand outs from her like im soooo interested in her potential as an actress cos she's literally only 23??? so curious to see how her career is going to pan out and what kind of roles she's gonna do.

Could u go more in depth about what u did/didn't like about the spinoff? Just curious as someone who enjoyed most of it but was a lil disappointed with the last few episodes

sure! i didnt like Hate it or anything there were things i did enjoy, i watched all the episodes, it was more that it just really didnt do it for me in a way thats kind of difficult to like. pin. i should state too that i was not going to watch it already bcuz i wasnt interested in the genderbend fanfiction characters being the like title piece and everything, but i gave the first two eps a shot and thought 'okay, i get it, this show is about simon and his complicated feelings about Everything that happened and who he used to be and who these characters represent to him about who he used to be' and then it just didnt really like, do more with that in a way that i expected or wouldve enjoyed, exactly? i like the idea of multiverse hopping and a bunch of different au versions of characters in a story, that stuff is obviously really popular right now and when its done well its done WELL. i liked how finn was characterized in episode 2. it was like, an entertaining watch, it just didnt really do much for Me, and i knew that going in. its really hard to explain like my negative feelings on something that are negative bcuz it just Wasnt For Me ykwim. and there r plenty of parts of adventure time that didnt really do it for me either bcuz it had so many writers

i read an interview w the director and writers and stuff and they mentioned that they made the series recognizing that the original fans were adult now and it was partly made for us and like having a more mature theme and everything, but i didnt rly feel thatit did that for me personally (which again is Fine), and i dont think it successfully captured like, 'more mature adventure time', i guess maybe in the sense that they can swear now? but adventure time itself is thoughtful and often more mature than it was given credit for at the time. its a kids show but a lot of the later stuff was made to just tell stories and explore ideas, whether kids like 'understood' it or not, they trusted their audience, stuff wasnt really like dumbed down. they mentioned trying not to step on the toes of the original too much too and i like did get the sense that they respected and loved the source material (some of the ppl working on it including the director were from the old team) but while the spinoff was clearly successful and ppl liked it a lot (ive already seen a lot of ppl talking abt how meaningful it was to them, and thats great, im glad it resonated for people) its like, read of the characters and world and the direction they wanted to take just wasnt really the kind of vibe i come to adventure time for, i guess? like i said it just didnt rly do it for Me personally in a way thats hard to articulate

and let me preface this next part by saying that i never got too invested in simon and bettys thing in adventure time so maybe some of this stuff WAS canon and i just completely missed it but i feel like the track they took w them and their relationship was like.. they were trying to say something but it wasnt exactly the direction i wouldve taken, which isnt a 'criticism' as much as its just, a thought , for me. i thought betty losing her shit and sacrificing herself for simon at the end of adv time proper was interesting bcuz to me betty wasnt like a completely selfless character, to me she wasnt MEANT to come off that way, she was interesting in part bcuz she did all that for simon but simon had been gone for a thousand years, she gave herself up to turn him back but didnt think abt whether he wouldve wanted that. she brought him back, but without her. its obviously tragic and i do get that like betty moving on now that simons like Safe at the end of fionna and cake makes sense but i was.. curious to see the whole metaphor w the choose ur own adventure book where the metaphor or whatever was that betty had given everything up for simon and simon had never took her own feelings into consideration or gave things up for HER and stuff, and all that about like, obsession, and uneven ground, and simon shouldve known better... and the show ending with simon saying wow damn yeah betty sacrificed herself for me and i never put her over me so i should live a good life. like okay but i thought betty sacrificing herself for him wasnt meant to come off as completely selfless bcuz it wasnt exactly? i dont think it was framed that way but again i COULD be wrong. im not gonna say that this stuff is not in character cuz again i dont Remember if this was canon to the mainline series. maybe betty was always a fan of his work and their relationship did start out uneven like that and i just forgot, i am not gonna say its Wrong. its not like 'is betty right' its that theres dif ways u can read like main adventure time series decisions and the grayness of it was interesting

and i dont say that to say like oh the focus shouldve been on Simons Feelings and not this woman who became a god for him its just like, i didnt really expect that direction of writing their past relationship, or the direction in general, and idk how to feel about it. maybe ill change my mind. maybe it all makes sense and i just didnt pay enough attention to betty and simons relationships and arcs before. what i did know coming out of the show is that i felt a little let down but i also felt like i shouldnt have expected much from something that just based off the series name was already something i expected to not vibe with THAT much
