can't believe it's 2022 and we still have posts around about not overusing "said" like seriously? Imagine if I made a list of words to use instead of "and." wouldn't that be stupid?

OK so heres some of my favorite things that were talked about during the enter the florpus commentary thing yesterday:
one of jhonen's favorite things in the whole movie is the writing in zim's kitchen that says "do anything is real?"
they clarified specifically that gir was not lying and he did in fact eat a baby at the crazy taco
gir smells REALLY bad. theres like rotting organic matter in his body at all times. he stinks
zim's human suit is made out of actual human skin
zim is acting drunk on nacho cheese during that scene in his house because richard horvitz recorded it while drunk
they planned to have this whole thing with tak's ship only agreeing to go to moo-ping 10 because it knows tak is there. they wouldve shown her in silhouette during that brief explosion and she wouldve stowed away on the ship without anyone knowing and then wouldve shown up towards the end of the movie, but they decided to cut it out
zim did not need to frame membrane for a crime in order to get him into space prison and likely just tossed the guards like 5 bucks for it. its a shady place. they did specify though that if he did frame him for something, it would have been jaywalking
they pointed out during that scene where zim is celebrating peace day on dib's lawn that zim's reaction to seeing dib was very much genuine and that's just how his brain works. he is genuinely surprised to see him pop out of his own house. (they also described his reaction as like "being surprised to see your best friend")
the ham joke was ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to the film and at some point jhonen remembered it and was like GUYS. WE ALMOST FORGOT THE HAM
there was supposed to be this joke where it cuts to and from gaz and dib in tak's ship and they would've had to stop at like a warp station or something and theyd be waiting in a long queue of spaceships and the radio is broken in the ship so theyre stuck listening to that one song. then itd cut to them like totally braindead drooling from listening to it for so long. and then a little later itd cut back a FINAL time and theyd know all of the words and both be singing along to it. but this was also cut out so only the last bit remained
when asked "who would win: minimoose or mrs. bitters?" the answer was along the lines of "neither, i think all of us lose in that scenario"
the tallest are just two dudes who happen to be the same height and therefore have to share the same job. they are not brothers and they are also not gay lovers ("as much as you want them to be, they are not. there is no love in this universe")
skooge is in fact alive and lives in zim's basement. they wanted to keep the number of "hey remember this thing from the tv show!" moments to a minimum so he was not mentioned in the movie. but he is there

Love the idea that Leo’s portal and teleportation based fighting style can heavily parallel the types of stuff you’d see in magic acts. Disappearing and reappearing, pulling stuff out of a hat/portal, sleight of hand and other such methods of averting the audience’s/enemies’ attention from what you’re trying to do, etc.
It’s genuinely pretty neat to see and I wish his love of magic acts and magicians was brought up more often because it and his other interests tie into each other and in turn his whole self so neatly.

my abecedarians. my booboo bears. i beseech y'all for those scholarly article websites. my uni databases keep giving me results for articles that aren't available and, like a pirate with a helm on his crotch might say, it's driving me nuts

so like, i'm fascinated by this, right, in all depictions of masked lucina - her awakening portrait, warriors, heroes, the lucina figma, whatever, - you can clearly tell that her hair is cropped short, identical to marth's style. and yet, when her mask breaks in awakening, her hair just goes flying out, like she had it tucked away somewhere. when i first played awakening i just rationalized it as maybe her long hair was tucked into her collar, or something, but playing the insane amounts of fe:w i am -
Tumblr media
there is nowhere for the hair to BE it is clearly just cut short
so
Tumblr media
fwuhh????
funny thing is, you can see that the hair is short in the same scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there are multiple points where you can see the back of her head
also, there's a really fast and hard cut between lucina's mask being cut and the close up of her face, revealing her long hair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
......almost like they needed to switch out her model, or something......
Tumblr media
shout out to this maskless short hair lucina though. she looks so cute. thanks fewiki for this image

when you accept that the unique things about you are the best things about you. when you fall in love w your uniqueness and become obsessed w it and reject conformity. when you think for yourself and draw your own conclusions and adore that you don’t perfectly fit into a mold. that’s when you’ll know true peace

Some old Morrowind character design stuff I was doing before my hands started acting up and nuked my ability to do nice line art. I might redo these (but just headshots) now that I have a more clear picture of these characters in my head since I don't vibe with all the choices I made in these anymore. Not my best art but there's enough ok stuff in these to warrant posting I think.
(the Vivec one is here btw)

Karting Champion and tutor, Mike Wilson spoke about his first encounter with Lance during his karting days in an interview, with an interesting comparison to a young Fernando Alonso, whom he'd also mentored: "Before leaving I said to my wife: "The father told me that the boy is very good. But it's normal to say that, do you know how many times I've heard it before? I assure you that if he is not phenomenal, I will return home, I don't want to waste time". Instead, when I saw him on the track, I realised that his father had his reasons and that this was a special child, with something more than others. Above all I was surprised by his determination: it was greater than normal. And this is strange, because boys who comes from such wealthy families generally do not need to struggle to get anything; consequently, they are not very determined. Not him. Quite the contrary! Before him, the last boy I had seen with his "willingness" was Fernando."
"Lance drove well and listened to all the advice. I remember a ROK International Final in which he started from the front row, in second place. The commissioners decided to replace the clutch for the first four (a precaution to avoid misconduct …) and he, at the second restart, started badly due to an overheated clutch. He was among the last drivers, but he did not lose heart because of this: he put his head down and proved to be among the fastest on the track. If he had started further ahead he would have won the race, also because he managed to overtake without wasting time: if you can do this at 11 years of age, it's only because you have talent. If that inconvenience had happened to me, I would have been so annoyed that I would have stopped and returned to the pits. It was certainly not easy to tutor Lance in those years: I would stay on Canada for a month, then return to Italia for a few weeks. Then I would go back to Canada, and so on. With a wife and children at home it certainly wasn’t easy. But it gave me great satisfaction: when he would climb onto the podium it would be as if I was there with him. Making money is important in life, but doing something you like is better. At my age, I still manage to get emotional on the track, and staying close to Lance was emotional.” - source

It's been a full year since the Mighty Nein show announcement and I am honestly still laughing that we all inexplicably identified that the lines were re-recorded for the announcement in particular in .02 seconds flat. This is still my takeaway a year later.

tbh i hate when people are like "idk how anyone makes angst or gets serious topics out of saiki k when its literally just a gag manga🤓" when the akechi arc, the cattank arc, the volcano arc, and literally every episode where he feels guilty about hiding his powers all exist????

You could write a really fun comparative essay about The Locked Tomb and Red Valley and specifically their portrayal of a very near-future impending climate catastrophe to which the hyper-rich attempt to abscond instead of dealing with the problem, impeded by scientist eco-terrorists trying to hold the rich accountable

thinking about queer!house, who would’ve been just getting out of medical school at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. house who loves puzzles and mysterious diseases. who probably did have to interview patients when he was younger and didn’t have the reputation to back up his behavior, having to deliver a diagnosis of GRID, that has only experimental treatments, a mysterious disease that nobody will fund the research for. the medical community can’t even agree on why exactly people catch it or on how it’s transmitted at first.
in the hallways, the unspoken consensus is that it’s spread through deviancy. degeneracy. queer behavior. that it’s more social contagion than real disease.
it would’ve made him furious. to watch people die, over and over again, from a puzzle that those with power didn’t want to solve. to hear so many become indignant or furious or hysterical at a diagnosis that labels them as queer. maybe it was worse to see those visibly gay men who only nodded their head, accepted that what had already begun killing their friends, their lovers, was killing them too.
everybody lies. whether they’re lying about their sexuality or lying about accepting an awful death shouldn’t make a difference to him. they’re going to die irregardless.
i think living through the epidemic as a young queer man would give additional explanation to a lot of house’s behavior. his general distaste for and mistrust for authority, his willingness to try any treatment no matter how radical or experimental, his conscious refusal to connect emotionally with patients, even down to less obvious stuff, like his consistent refusal to use heroin. he’s genuinely traumatized from living through an epidemic that killed people like him.

Thinking about how Magolor's electric ball attacks look nothing like any other instances of electricity in the games that I can recall (particularly in Star Allies), but do resemble Gooey's Dark Laser attacks quite a bit
