First, Theo remembered being hungry, the kind of hungry that never seemed to go away and instead gnawed at him for much of his young life, pushing out thoughts of safety, love, right, or wrong. It was this persistent gnawing that would drive much of Theo's early life as he sought to make a way for himself and his "brother." Theo cannot remember how they came together -they had no parents to speak of, only the memory of a sad woman on the day she turned away from them-but he was the only one who looked out for Theo in those early years. In the streets of Paris, it was the two of them against the world. They stole what they needed to survive, fighting their way through Paris.

At the time, Paris was both the toast of the social world, home to those who threw glittering parties and salons, but the common people were like Theo, hungry and struggling. Still, it meant there was plenty to take. But the crown jewel of the decadence was the palace of Versailles. Theo and his brother sought to steal from the top of the top. But as they were leaving with their loot, they got caught. Theo, the stronger fighter, told his brother to leave first and hung back, throwing his all into the fight though outnumbered and outmatched. Theo kept swinging, however, and when he sat in his cell, a visitor came, the former Commander of the French legion. He gave the scrappy street urchin a choice: go to prison or join up. Theo joined the army and it was the army that would give him his purpose.

Firstly, while in the army the commander introduced him to the Martinez's. In Santiago, Theo found both a mentor and a hero of sorts. Santiago was educated and passionate, determined to right a system which valued only the elite at the expense of an entire third class that had to shoulder all the burdens. He taught Theo to read, feeling that education was so often what separated the classes, and then he gave Theo the philosophers. It was these thoughts, along with Theo's own experiences which began to drive his desire to undo the system of the monarchy altogether in favor of a republic.

Secondly, it was in training that he met her, Jacqueline Bonaparte. When he first saw her, she was training alone. He did not know who she was, only that she moved like some sort of Amazonian warrior of legend; she was the quickest person with a sword that he'd ever seen. She spun then and leveled a sword at his chest and he was smitten. Then she'd invited him to spar; after the seventh time of her knocking him on his ass, he was in love. They'd began training together constantly and slowly they'd begun to talk. It was only after he was already hooked that he'd realized she was a princess. In spite of his disdain for monarchies, he could not bring himself to look at Jacqueline as anything but his love. They came together, even knowing that her family would not approve; when they Ortiz's took over, they married and Jacqueline was a princess no longer, but still a talented fighter in the French army. Together they stand, now truly against the world.

Oc intro - Theo (he/him)

Theo :]

He's in his early to mid-twenties when the meat of the story takes place but the timeline is kinda fucked so we won't think about it too hard.

I'm going to try my hardest to keep this short.

He used to have a boring and peaceful life tending to the altar of a minor goddess until one night the temple is attacked and he's (almost) killed. The goddess decides to "save him" but in the process, she essentially curses him to never be able to stay dead. That's it. He can die (and does. often.) but then he just comes back.

Coming back doesn't always heal his body all the way so he needs to be careful or he might die twice from the same wound. Fun stuff.

He's covered in scars from head to toe but as of right now, I'm too lazy to keep track of all of them except for the ones on his neck and face and a couple ones on his torso. The rest I always just add randomly :P

Basically the first part of this story's plot is him chasing down God to force her to let him die. Also along the way he discovers the power of friendship or whatever :/

I will update this post from time to time with more info / reference pictures but for now I can't think of anything else

P.S. I debated putting a shirt on him but it didn't add all that much and I wanna show you the scars :3 (also yes I am physically incapable of drawing nipples that aren't hearts sue me)

a b o u t :

babylon boy - circa late 00s. theo and maripaz find each other while searching for meaning, but they're not quite the answer they were looking for. having independently run away from home they are focused on survival. maripaz left behind a family with more kids her parents knew what to do with and a boyfriend she never really liked. theo cut his family's losses and he hopes eventually they will stop missing him, his problems are his own. survival leads to companionship leads to friendship leads to i would be really bummed if you ever parted from me. there is no future as they hop from place to place, shoplift, and try to have a night of rest, there is only today and maybe tomorrow. gossamer girl - circa early 10s. the most earth shattering things still happen walking down the street or in the store.

in other words: a story told in two parts (plus a few others) about maripaz and theo—who ran away from home to spare their families the trouble. maripaz was only taking up space in her house and theo definitely does not have a drug addiction problem. they meet when theo helps maripaz shoplift from a grocery store and he steals one of the two necklaces she brought with her, this one with an angel charm (this is important). teddy is writing the theo pov and i am writing the mari pov and they go back and forth throughout.

c h a r a c t e r s :

maría paz "maripaz" vega. would rather die than ever express a want or need. should be dancing to abba at a discotheque. loves valentine's day themed stuff unironically. sixth daughter of eight kids. audhd. constantly interrupting her narration with snippets of the past. wants love to fix her so so bad. i think that i'm not who you think i am / but i like to be seen and i like to be wanted [better than this - lizzy mcalpine].

theodore "theo" rayes. hasn't had a problem ever his brain is so normal promise. should be doing silly tricks at the skate park. smartest stupidest pretty boy you'll ever meet. twin brother (older). autistic. constantly interrupting his narration with daydreams of the future. has these drugs under control (trust me). medicate, meditate, save your soul for jesus / throw a punch, fall in love, give yourself a reason [call your mum - noah kahan].

the actual plot is less important than these two's emotional journeys. the conflict comes from... why isn't how much i love you enough to make everything right? what if you wanted someone to choose you and mean it. what if you wanted to be someone people can rely on. what if we were what the other person is looking for but where we're at right now is making it so hard but here we are, we are staying.

aesthetic: the changing lights of a carnival ferris wheel, tongues coloured from candy, heart-shaped sunglasses, intertwined fingers, the murmur of the ocean tide, fine white sand, pink and orange sunsets, hands sticky from melting ice cream, light refracted on a suncatcher, cramped secondhand bookstores, the buzz of fluorescent lights in a hospital waiting room, freckle-covered cheeks, the heads of strawberries, nightlife lights refracted on wet pavement, a necklace you never take off, rhinestone decorated flip phones, a steady heartbeat, graffities that scream for something more, homemade plastic jewellery, the light behind your head looks like a halo, tangled bedsheets, soft music at the grocery store, the cold of the frozen aisle, photographs from disposable cameras, porcelain angels

“That one’s mine.” Carla had grabbed one of the soup bowls, then the watermelon Maripaz had picked, and another one. Juan Pa had left then unattended after calling up the stairs if anyone wanted any.

“Girls,” Mum called from the living room, her telenovela was so loud Maripaz had been able to hear it from the second floor. Bringing herself to do homework before dark was hard enough. “No fighting, please. I don’t want to deal with this.”

Carla had watermelon juice, a single drop of it, rolling down her chin. “Don’t make a scene. It’s just fucking watermelon, just grab another one.”

Maripaz made a scene.

The soup bowl broke into six separate pieces when it crashed on the floor. Carla screamed, not from pain, but indignation and anger. She shoved Maripaz so hard she knocked over one of the kitchen table chairs.

“Girls! Por el amor de Dios, not one second of peace in this house.”

Theo's parents, Paulina and Miles, are both well known surgeons. The Wesley family is quite wealthy──they have a two story apartment! While Theo loves their parents, they feel uncomfortable in such a big house, especially as an only child.

They're actually quite insecure about their intelligence level, they struggle with school more than others so due to their dyslexia, but they also have trouble asking for help because they don't want to bother their parents.

Theo's favourite pie is peach pie! (The MCs nickname being Peach has nothing to do with it whatsoever... none at all!!)

I Don't Believe in Love

Theo Raeken was the prime example of the perfect son. At least he would’ve been, if it wasn’t for one thing. He was gay. It’s been eleven years since he came out, you’d think his dad would have accepted it by now. “It” being the derogative term for Theo. In a perfect world maybe he would see the perfect son Theo was trying to be. This isn’t a perfect world, though so he’s swept under the rug like everything he does for that man.

When he came out, it was just the three of them. Him, his dad, and his twin sister Tara. Their mom long since gone. Theo never met her and according to their dad, he doesn’t want to. She was here long enough to birth the twins then she was one bus ticket out of town. Theo was 10 years old, sitting at the dinner table, when he announced he was gay.

“What is gay?” Tara had asked.

He had never seen his father so angry. He told Theo how inappropriate he was being, especially in front of his sister. He was called disgusting by his own father for being true to who he was. That didn’t stop him, though. Theo became relentless. He had to prove that his dad’s words meant nothing, no matter how much they hurt. He started dressing for himself and not in the clothes his dad made him wear. He was outspoken and determined to be the best Theo he could be. Which was great and all, but how can he be the best if he was still trying left and right to impress his dad at every whim.

When Tara came out as bisexual, it was an uproar. Of course, it had to be Theo’s fault, feeding her all this garbage about gay rights. His dad finally put his foot down. Johnathan Raeken was running for town mayor of Beacon Hills. Guess he wanted to be somebody, make a difference with his life and Theo’s. For his punishment, Theo would be by his side every step of the way, supporting his campaign. This isn’t his life, this isn’t what he wants. It’s just another way to please his dad.

His life has always been about meeting his dad’s expectations and failing every time. He got straight As all throughout high school. He was captain of the football team and now he’s shadowing his dad as mayor. Is Theo happy? Define happy.

no picrew for this mf but basically this is the god of the forest, it's a big pain in the ass for our main characters because there's...occasional possessions and flora growing everywhere on their clothes/body. it has questionable morals due to being immortal and its sole purpose is to preserve the forest. it doesn't have a corporeal form, instead bouncing its consciousness around any creature/living thing in the forest (plants, trees, animals)

𖡼 i wrote this entire book during nanowrimo!! i won, but i added 13k after november so it's only 63k right now, but i am editing to make it longer. it took me two months to finish draft 1

𖡼 i came up with the idea during summer of 2022, based on a playlist that a close friend gave me - they said boom, make a story, and i did!!

𖡼 the story is set in the fictional town of pinevale, canada, and i do not have a name for the forest yet (i should probably get on that so it's less vague when i talk about the forest

𖡼 it's third person and the POV switches between kian, theo, rue and miiba, and amora for like one pov (i'll probably make it more consistent in the 2nd draft)
