random headcannon that hua cheng detests rainy weather - light drizzles, mild rains, thunderstorms, all of it. he’s the type of person to appreciate the rain from inside, beside a crackling stove that has a simmering pot of dumpling soup over it. hua cheng has experienced being left out in thunderstorms as a kid and absolutely detests being drenched and cold with nowhere to take shelter.

also because when it rains he looks like a drenched cat and becomes a hundred times less menacing than the persona he’s built for himself.

the only way he enjoys rain the most is when he’s cuddled up to xie lian under layers of silken blankets in puqi shrine (hand-made by none other than himself) and wakes to cool winds whistling in the morning and swirls of cloudy skies.

but xie lian likes the rain.

its refreshing to walk through a thundering monsoon rainstorm, or a fleeting summer drizzle. and the best part of it all: he's not going to get sick, no matter how drenched he becomes.

so they compromise.

xie lian is more than happy to stroll in the rain and enjoy it through the patters of raindrops again hua cheng's umbrella. hua cheng, well. he'd gladly trudge through torrential rainfall if xie lian so much as breathed a word about it.

its during a light summer rain, with the sun high in the sky and a gentle zephyr ruffling the grass and trees around them that hua cheng decides to shut his umbrella.

the patter of rain against his face is uncomfortable at first, and xie lian is quick to suggest taking cover under a tree, hua cheng doesn't take him up on the offer. because as they meander through fields of wildflowers, pass by a merry stream, and navigate through a swarm of butterflies that flutter busily around the flowers, hua cheng realises the rain didn't seem as bone-chillingly cold as he remembered.

he's still not going to walk into a downpour of his own volition though. (and that's perfectly fine, because xie lian would also very much prefer having someone to cuddle with by the fire, wrapped in layers silky blankets and many cups of tea to nurse while enjoying the rains from inside puqi shrine.)

My controller's "X" button is completely trashed because of the time I was playing Rain World, last year...

#It's sort of wiggly like a loose tooth. #Unparalleled usage of the jump input in Rain World honestly... #I should continue playing it at some point. #It's such a good game. #It is technically a difficult game but I am a huge fan of being punished for being alive. #I need to finish the Hunter playthrough... and Artificer. #Artificer has made me better and more confident at fighting but that doesn't make the Metropolis easier. #I didn't really talk about my Artificer playthrough but I think the worst area was Chimney Canopy. #'Groundhog Day' puts it lightly. The utter repetitions... The cycles... Hah. #CC starved me so I was always one extra den away from... Whatever zone Pebbles is in (I forget the name by now). #It isn't just not being able to hibernate but not being able to drag a Scavenger with you. #I must have replayed the same day 15 times with slight variations before I got lucky. #A cycle isn't completely random. The same creatures are likely going to follow the same paths for that day. #So you can learn to anticipate certain things... #Kill a 40 Scavs in the long tunnel that leads to 3 different zones... Then grab one with high karma and get out alive to the canopy. #Then... spend 10 minutes going between tunnels as 3 King Vultures piss about looking for you. #Then... take a risk and ascend and go right as a normal vulture follows you. #Something something profit... #I have never been so happy to see a karma gate in my life. #Artificer's bomb jump is exquisite for the ascent to that gate. #Rain World #Since I recall my last adventure so much in the tags...

sue me but i just really don’t wanna see someone try to rectify that terrible cliche out of character love triangle again like. if they chose to cut that out all together (not cutting YUMI out all together, obviously, just the romantic implications) then they’d probably have my attention. but let’s be real that’s probably not gonna happen

#legit you can cut out all romantic implications in that story and it’d literally not effect the plot at all #all the driving forces of the plot are already there. and they set that in stone when they made yakuza 0- nishiki and kiryu’s story #is between them and them alone and that’s how their story should end as well. yumi is important to the plot of y1/kiwami but not as a #an object in between kiryu and nishiki- she’s important for her own individual reasons and throughout the entirety of 1 she functions by her #own volition. she’s got her own shit going on and though it intersects with kiryu and nishiki in the end (and before that via haruka) #it literally has nothing to do with romance– it has to do with the 10 billion yen and haruka and how she ties into all of that #the fact that they’re all childhood friends COULD have been a very interesting piece of the ending to play with narratively speaking but #they don’t explore that instead they just say unga bunga straight men must fight over woman unga bunga #like come on are you fucking kidding me #she had her own whole ass life for 10 years. so did the other two for better or for worse. nishiki is a murderer and kiryu got ten years of #his life taken away by prison. but no it’s all secretly actually connected by a love triangle that’s been #just sorta hibernating for ten years or something #god #sorry I just.
