im a little confused about the cgi post, obviously it's ridiculous to compare people making fun of cgi to actual critiques of irl women's bodies but what about it is angering aside from being sort of dumb? feel like i'm missing some kind of context

when a studio casts a thin conventionally attractive woman to portray someone who canonically looks like this

and then said studio responds to the obvious and inevitable backlash by placing the emphasis on people trying to "control" CGI women's bodies by claiming that said backlash would have been exactly the same if they had made her look more like a bodybuilder. not only are they just throwing around buzzwords for the sake of deflection but they clearly are misunderstand the root of the backlash. (and also the reality of how women's bodies are depicted in media in general) it has nothing to do with the audience controlling women's bodies and everything to do with the fact that hollywood has an incredibly narrow idea of how women are allowed to exist onscreen and that instead of depicting their main character accurately. (a character whose entire existence is literally just a contrast to traditional comic gender roles by being a buff, powerful, and not-thin woman) they instead remove every. single. aspect. of her character by making her skinny and muscular in an instagram influencer way. something digestible and conventionally pretty and very, very safe and then they have the fucking gall to say that people are mad because they are "trying to control women's bodies."

not to say that she-hulk singlehandedly is setting back feminism by depicting the direct female counterpart to the fucking hulk as a a thin pretty woman. but they are wrong when they say that people being upset by it is "controlling women's bodies" when really people are upset that the one time marvel has a chance to cast a not thin woman in a major role they don't just fumble the bag, but they fuck up the bag so astronomically that now no one wants to watch it because she-hulk literally just looks like a green slightly fit woman catered exclusively for the male gaze. it's upsetting. it makes me really, really mad. it's just another grim reality that hollywood only sees women as worth narrators of a story if they are pretty and thin and fuckable (to straight men).

and finally, it's just the fact that the backlash they would have gotten if they casted a bigger muscular woman would not only have been very different but it would have been different in such a dark and fucked up way that is only generated when men are forced to watch a media about a woman they can't objectify.

#𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐲.「 out of character. 」 #hope you're ready for me to ramble in tags because OOOH BOY. i'm waving at my comics academy diploma. #of course let me start by saying that i don't mean it for every single american comic. i'm not here to generalize and lemme tell ya #some italian comics sometimes tend to do the same of what i'm about to ramble about. staring at some dylan dog comics i have. #but sadly it's also a thing that happens a lot in mainstream american comics (meaning marvel and dc) and that i even studied #and it's called ✨BODY PROPORTIONS✨ and how they are absolutely butchered to make a cool panel or just. ignored because BUFF 'EM #i'm specifically talking about a deadpool comic at the moment because that's what i was reading #and i swear that deadpool's proportions kept changing panel to panel. not to mention his body was 'perfected'? like #yes he keeps regenerating but he's supposed to have a body consumed by cancer. why does he look like hulk then. #and it's not only marvel doing this - once again i'm staring at dc and at my biggest problem with constantine's comics #which is that they have hinted (actually more than that) to his eating disorders - not to mention alcoholism and general lack of self care #and he's also a sorcerer and supposedly the anti-hero which is not super muscolar and has no incredible physical strength #yet how many freaking comics i've seen of him where he's just. SO buff. his body super perfect. I'm not that familiar with the character, but isn't She-Hulk supposed to be weaker than the Hulk thanks to not having as much gamma radiation in her blood? Why is the new show trying to make her out to be stronger when she looks like a twig compared to her cousin?

Honestly, I'm not certain fully from looking up She Hulk and such, but would it be a surprise if they did change that??? They already changed her backstory from risking her life willingly to defend a gangster who had been double crossed by another gangster called Nicholas Trask, leading to Trask to have agents shoot her, only for her to have been with Bruce at the time and therefore, put in a desperation situation and refusing to lose her, Bruce gave her the needed blood transfusion to just....she and Bruce get in a car crash and....when helping Bruce out of the crash, his blood gets into her cut and....somehow that's enough to make her into a hulk.

Like, this show really doesn't care about being accurate to comics She Hulk, so wouldn't be a surprise if they changed that detail about whose stronger just so she can be stronger then Bruce. And god, don't get me started on her design...they still fucking make her buff for some reason, meaning she just gets a bit taller and becomes green and for some reason gets green thin hair.
