hey your fic is killing me jsyk
adjf;asdkjkadkdk;;ajdfkf I'm so happy!!! I've been LOVING the discussion in the comments (I've been truly heinous about responding to comments but it's definitely not because they're not incredibly appreciated!). I'm especially happy because this was the fic I was most unsure about in the entire series, so I'm so so thrilled that it's getting a good response!

Loki - season 2, episode 6 series finale -immediate reaction
Okay, so this time I’m gonna have to split this into two posts.  This one is my reaction after just watching the finale, but this time it’s going to be mostly my emotional response, and the more considered post with images will have to wait till later.  I don’t have the heart for it right now.
So yeah, spoilers ahead.
Well that tore out my heart and stamped on it!
I mean it was an utterly perfect story for a character like Loki, but I’m still devastated. I love it. And I hate it.
I love it on a story level.  The whole season was beautifully done! Loki developed so much over the six episodes, and really won my heart back. I fell in love with the gang from the TVA, particularly OB and Mobius, and I warmed to Sylvie and just wanted her to be able to live the quiet life she’s wanted for so long.
I loved that they really went into the depth I had assumed I’d only get in a fic about the different attempts Loki made to fix things by going back in time. They didn’t just gloss over things, they really showed him trying.  I was shocked when after he asked OB how long it would take him to learn everything, he went and spent CENTURIES doing it!  My stomach dropped.  Because can you imagine what that means for someone?  Even someone as long lived as Loki?  What that has to do to your mind? And that should have been the first clue things weren’t going to turn up roses.
Then he finally succeeds! But they don’t show it to us like we’re experiencing that moment, but more as though we’re an observer, rushing through it because it’s yet another repeat. And for one brief moment Loki is happy because he thinks they’ve done it. But no, it turns out to have been an impossible task!
And then he finds out that HWR basically gave him his newfound powers, and that he still had a lot to learn, and then we see THAT HE ALREADY HAD LEARNED! The way they kept dropping the sense of time on us, that sense of dread and urgency. And inevitability. *shivers*
How he tries, and tries, and tries to convince Sylvie, but can’t get through to her, and how he has to contemplate whether he’s the sort of man who could kill her. I loved how he visited Mobius to ask for his advice. My god. What a horrible conversation to have to have.  But what trust he places in Mobius!
And I loved how he kept refusing to take the easy path. How he decided he couldn’t kill Sylvie, and how he realised there was another way. But OMG at what price!? I can’t….
But I hated how much this hurt Loki, what this took from him.  When the gold from the rock trickles upwards to create a mockery of a throne, which is more a prison… just…. 😭 The look on his face once he knows what he has to do. He had to make the impossible choice, and he chose the impossible.
I love that it kept the tone of tragedy that has haunted Loki all through the MCU.  I love how they were true to his character in that way, but AT THE SAME TIME allowed him to retain his new sense of self, all that growth we’ve shared through this series but also the change that he’s experienced while he’s been isolated during centuries trying to find a way to defeat HWR and keep the people on the branched timelines safe. His desperate act to do the right thing.  And finally it is the right thing in the eyes of the universe and the audience, and yet he still loses. My heart just can’t bear it!
It’s perfect and it hurts.

I know this might be a bit of a difficult one, but top 5 Loki-centric fanfic you've read? (I hope your day gets better!)
Oh this is hard!!! I've interpreted Loki-centric loosely - the last two are actually from Thor's pov, because I get so much joy out of fics in which Thor's understanding of Loki evolves or is emphasised. In no particular order:
1. Sanguine by @violetvapours (Loki/Sigyn, deliciously dark mutual saviours to lovers with blood magic. Also hugely recommend her other works, V is a great talent)
2. Hel Is Being Other People by @nildespirandum (Loki/OC, a wonderfully witty story of the mercurial god of mischief trapped in the body of a very mundane office worker. Read this then the whole series then all of Nil's works, she's amazing)
3. These Vagabond Shoes by @veliseraptor (Loki & Thor epistolary heart-squeeze. Loki goes wandering across Midgard and sends Thor postcards processing a lot of stuff)
4. But Tell It Slant by @scioscribe (hope this is the right url?) (Loki & Thor confronted by Thanos AU, the way I wish Infinity War had actually gone)
5. one last breath of hope by @thelightofthingshopedfor (again hope url is right?) (Loki & Thor; Loki steps through a portal in the final Endgame battle)
Thank you for the ask!

Top 5 Mary Oliver poems? 😬 this is legit though, because I’m realizing I haven’t read anywhere near as much of her stuff as I should and I need somewhere to start (also “Wild Geese” has been resonating with me lately even more than usual because of some discussions with my therapist, which is really cool timing because this time of year is exactly when tons of Canada geese come through)
so I went and read a bunch of Mary Oliver poems to think about this and choose one and like. wow Mary Oliver poems. just gonna lie back and have some emotions for a little while.
how does she do that, anyway, I’m not generally a poetry person but I read Mary Oliver and I’m just like. oh. oh thanks for taking my heart out and making me look at it, bud
anyway! here are five. links go to full text, quotes are just selections.
1. “Wild Geese.” You already know this one, obviously, but it bears mentioning anyway because it is just...truly, such a special poem.
You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
2. “A Settlement.” I think about this one a lot. Specifically the last lines of it, but I also think “look, it’s spring” to myself sometimes, as a kind of...shorthand? idk.
Therefore, dark past, I’m about to do it. I’m about to forgive you
for everything.
3. “Black Oaks.” This is a newer one I ran across more recently and it knocked me down and kicked me in the productivity jail feelings, but, like, kindly. I feel like a lot of Mary Oliver is just about...enoughness, about being and the sufficiency of being. About not having to prove anything. And. Yipes. Relevant.
Listen, says ambition, nervously shifting her weight from one boot to another — why don’t you get going?
For there I am, in the mossy shadows, under the trees.
And to tell the truth I don’t want to let go of the wrists of idleness, I don’t want to sell my life for money,
I don’t even want to come in out of the rain.
4. “The Summer Day.” People quote the last line of this one all the time, for good reason (it’s lovely) but the poem as a whole is also...you know, I hate the “carpe diem” thing sometimes but when Mary Oliver does it it works for me. Maybe because it feels less “go out! do something!” and more just...”the world is beautiful. embrace it.” Again, the sufficiency of idleness.
Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
5. “The Journey.” This one was one of my first Mary Oliver poem encounters (the other was “At Blackwater Pond,” actually, which I do have a soft spot for for that reason). And it’s - different from the others, but it’s affirmative to me in some of the same way that “Wild Geese” is.
But little by little, as you left their voices behind, the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do -- determined to save the only life that you could save.

@thelightofthingshopedfor replied to your post “after nearly fifteen years on tumblr I finally...”:
Oh no which one
it's this carousel bat one, which was just an off-the-cuff excited post I made in early March 2015 because Corey and I, newly dating, were discussing houseboats and architecture and what elaborate nonsense we'd add to a future massive weird home if we ever had one, and I looked up different kinds of carousel creatures because that's been a fasciation of mine since early childhood, and found carousel bat, and excitedly posted about it! for some reason today it is chewing through hundreds and hundreds of notes. it's not even CLEVER! (but it is at least on brand. I'm not as such embarrassed or misrepresented by this.)

WIP Game
Rules: Write the latest line from your wip (or post where you last left off in your art) and tag as many people as there are words in the  line. Make a new post, don’t reblog.
Accepting an open tag from @nostalgia-tblr:
Odin made a rough snarling noise. “I shall not let you die at all, if I have anything to say about it. If Thanos, or anyone else comes hunting you, they shall have to go through me first.” Loki’s eyes went wide and startled, making him look very young.
(There are actually several lines after this, but the actual last currently written line of "A perfunctory knock sounded on the door and Eir entered the room" wasn't very interesting; this is the last line that I know I won't be changing further down the line in the edit phase. The set-up: Frigga is in a coma after being stabbed by the Kursed and Loki has been allowed to come say any final words to her in case she doesn't make it. (Eir did some guilt-tripping on Odin and Loki has sworn to behave like the good boy that he is because he doesn't really want his last words to Frigga to have been "you're not my mother".) Odin and Loki are both feeling vulnerable. They are talking about feelings. Truths are coming out.)
Six words in the actual first line (since I generously provided four since context is important), so I'm tagging @thelightofthingshopedfor, @psychoticgirl, @eienvine, @callistonicol, @deliriumsdelight7, and @kelyon.

This might be a weird question, but do you have suggestions for platformers that are good at, essentially, teaching you how to be better at platformers? I'm sure it's partly reflexes but I tend to struggle even with theoretically easy platformers (2D or 3D), especially where precision is involved, and it's frustrating because a lot of cool games are in a style I find really difficult. So I guess I'm either looking for EXTREMELY forgiving ones, or the platforming equivalent of Aim Lab.
This might strike some as an odd choice, but I’d probably go with Celeste. To be totally up front, this is not an easy game, even as precision puzzle platformers go. In my first 100% playthrough, I died 16 000 times --  and no, I didn’t typo an extra zero there! If dying constantly isn’t a dealbreaker for you, though, it’s a very good platformer training tool for the following reasons:
The difficulty curve, while harsh, is scrupulously fair and very meticulously structured. New platforming concepts and techniques are introduced one at a time, practiced with repeated trials of smoothly ascending difficulty, then elaborated upon with puzzles that clearly demonstrate how to combine new techniques with those introduced previously. The whole main storyline basically plays out as a very long tutorial for the post-game challenges, but not in a bad way.
Gameplay is failure-oriented in the sense that failure is treated as an integral part of the process of play, rather than becoming a punishment or interruption. Most challenges are only a single screen long, with checkpoints at every transition, so it’ll be rare for a death to cost more than 5--10 seconds of progress, and downtime between deaths is practically nonexistent. It’s easy to get to a place where dying doesn’t even really disrupt your flow; this is intentional.
The absence of combat, simple three-button control scheme, and lack of any randomised gameplay elements let you focus on your platforming skills, without the distraction of multitasking or the frustration of getting sniped by some unrelated hazard while trying to navigate a particularly tricky platform. There are a few places where you have to dodge something that’s trying to eat you, but they’re 100% deterministic -- that is, you can readily predict the baddies’ actions based on your own.
Aesthetically, the game is built to offer a welcoming and relaxing experience in spite of its very high difficulty. Everything from the chill soundtrack to the colourful graphics to the affirming popup message between levels reinforces this. On the flip side, what it doesn’t do is mock the player for failure or celebrate player deaths with squishy sound effects and spraying gore -- something a lot of precision puzzle platformers could stand to learn from!
The game’s Assist Mode provides a robust set of accessibility tools, most notably the ability to slow the game down by as much as 50% while you work on your reflexes. Indeed, Celeste’s commercial success was a major factor in encouraging the broader adoption of accessibility features within the precision puzzle platformer genre, which historically had been largely hostile to the notion. Unusually, Celeste’s Assist Mode does not lock you out of completing achievements.
All this comes with the caveat that if you’re easily frustrated or given to taking failure personally, Celeste is not the game for you. Otherwise, it’s an excellent teaching tool for precision platforming, and it will kick your ass so, so much.
