Something stupid I witnessed while picking up a prescription today. An elderly woman in line next to me asked about the Covid vaccine and how to get one. And the pharmacist tells her, ‘well you can go on the website or the app and make an appointment or call 1-800-Walgreens’. And the lady asked if she could just make an appointment now while she was here. No, apparently. Because we’re desperately trying to get as many people as possible vaccinated, but we still have to have a bunch of nonsensical barriers to actually getting one. Elderly people are often not comfortable with websites/apps and some of them have a hard time with automated phone systems as well. Disabled people also can have these issues. Why wouldn’t a pharmacy that’s been contracted by the government to provide vaccines set up some kind of in store system for people to make appointments while they’re already there? I mean, I know the answer and so do you, it’s money, but this is a national public health crisis. Maybe we shouldn’t just be handing this off to corporations with zero oversight.
