I've just finished Heartbreak High (delayed, I know) and I was so excited about the asexual representation we were given ... just to jump on here and find that a lot of people are saying that Cash's asexuality story was handled poorly because he doesn't explicitly say he's on the asexuality spectrum, or because Darren didn't respond very well but I disagree with everything that's being said.
I think Heartbreak High handled this storyline in the most authentic way and let me explain why:
Tumblr media
Firstly, I think it's important to remember that Cash is an eshay. He's grown up around a very bigoted group of young people, who - you can assume - hold very extreme, neagtive opinions about the LGBTQA+ community. Despite this, we see him accept his love for Darren in a very real way. He's not afraid to be seen with them in public but he does panic a little when his fellow eshays see him with them - even going so far as to say that Darren is a "customer" when asked who they are. We see at the Mardis Gras that he panics when he sees his eshay friend dealing. He isn't afraid of being out, he's afraid of their opinions of him being out. He's afraid of the eshays, not of being queer.
If you think that Cash and his eshay friends would have a deep understanding of sexuality - let alone asexuality - then you're very mistaken.
Not only that, but asexuality is massively misunderstood anyway. People on the asexuality spectrum can go years without finding a label that fits them. I was 18 when I discovered the spectrum. I spent 18 years of my life thinking I was broken.
We see that Cash has accepted this part of himself - he doesn't worry about him being broken or a disappointment, he just worries that he will lose Darren because of it. That's actually really advanced, considering he doesn't even know what asexuality is.
-
Secondly, Darren is a non-binary, queer person. They have a good understanding of the community and different sexuality but one thing that they don't understand - or even know about - is asexuality. This is common in the community. Asexuality is massively unrepresented and there is a lot of false information out there about it.
From Darren's perspective, their partner didn't want to have sex with them. They've grown up feeling like they were unlovable, it's a very authentic reaction for someone to have. And it's a barrier that a lot of asexual people have to overcome in relationships because their partners just don't get that it isn't personal.
Quinni says it the best, she says that "Cash might just be wired differently", and that's what makes Darren a little more understanding - that and speaking with their dad about their trauma from their parents' divorce. They finally understand that Cash didn't have bad experiences with sex but doesn't have that attraction or urge to sleep with someone. They have a lot of unresolved trauma from their childhood, and hypersexuality can be linked to that.
-
Thirdly, it is so beautiful that Heartbreak High have explored the asexuality spectrum in the way they have; usually, ace characters in shows and movies don't have a love interest while they figure out what they feel about or want out of relationships. In Heartbreak High, we see Cash understand that he is attracted to Darren romantically - he actively says he has loved them since he was in Year 8 - and not be afraid of that.
He also knows he is repulsed by sex and doesn't feel anything towards it. He knows it isn't anything to do with the other person and tries his best to communicate that to Darren. And then we see Darren accept Cash's boundaries and we seem them really try to support him through this development.
-
Additionally, we don't see Cash label his sexuality at all. He doesn't say "I'm bisexual but don't like sex", or "I think I'm gay but sex isn't for me". This is really important because it gives room for the show to explore his sexuality in further detail later on. We can still get him discovering the word, and we can still see him finding a term to identify with (if he wants to, some people don't need a term to understand themselves).
There is so much room to talk about the difference between sexual attraction and romantic attraction, and room for the show to explore where Cash lies in that bracket of identification. We don't know if he's homoromantic, greyromantic, demiromantic, biromantic etc, and I really hope we get to see him explore that. Because it's a challenging thing to have to try to understand after coming to terms with being on the ace spectrum.
There is so much pressure to label yourself at that young age. I think it's rather positive that we have a character that understands his preferences and knows how he feels about sex without having that pressure so early on.
Sure, he likely doesn't know what asexuality is but it will be really interesting to see where the show takes this in future.
As I said, I didn't find the word to describe my sexuality until I was 18. Some people don't until they're middle aged. There's still time for Cash to discover the term and identify with the asexuality spectrum.
-
We see that Cash has tried sex and didn't enjoy it. He doesn't have that urge to go further, and when he does he doesn't enjoy it. That's such good bloody representation. I can't get over it. Despite being shown to be quite anxious about how he feels around sex, he isn't shown to be ashamed of it. That's so healthy and so important.
He doesn't get it and he is still having those confusing problems with his sexuality but he isn't ashamed of it.
-
Finally, I just want to reiterate that Cash not explicitly saying he's asexual does NOT mean that he isn't asexual. The writers and directors of the show have expressly said that he is asexual representation. This pressure to label yourself when you're still trying to figure things out - as Cash says directly - is really dehumanising.
Cash is a human being. He's a young person that is really confused about why he isn't like everyone else. He's having an internal struggle with his preferences and he doesn't understand why he feels the way he does, why he's "wired differently", why he doesn't "feel the same shit" as Darren and other people his age.
It's a really confusing time when you are growing up ace. It makes no sense until you find the community and you find that you're not alone.
Cash Piggott is canonically asexual and it's even more raw that he doesn't label himself so early on because that is the ace experience for so many people.
-
I love Cash. I love him so much. And I hope the show explores his asexuality in more detail in the future. I think the show did this so well.
Cash's experience isn't every asexual person's experience - it's his experience. The ace experience is a very personal thing and to see it brought to life on screen in such a raw way is SO IMPORTANT.
I LOVE DOUGLAS PIGGOTT WITH MY WHOLE ACE HEART.

Alright, last time ever that I’ll talk about Velma. I promise.
Because I’ve been extra salty towards this show all week, and I don’t want to take it further than that. Talking nothing but bad stuff about this show for the entirety of its run is exactly what the writers want. They want us to hate watch it so we can talk about each new atrocity the show brings up week after week, and call us haters or anti-woke propagandists. When, in reality, they don’t give a FUCK about any of that. They don’t care about other races, genders, or sexualities. They just WANT you to think they do. Know how I can tell? Because I’ve SEEN genuine attempts of representation.
Tumblr media
THIS is a genuine attempt of representation. Matt Braly, the series creator of Amphibia and a Thai-American, felt like Thai culture was underrepresented in media. So, he not only made his main character and her Thai, but he also dedicated subplots and entire episodes showcasing the culture he wanted to represent.
Tumblr media
THIS is a genuine attempt at representation. Dana Terrace, series creator of The Owl House and open Bisexual, wanted a main character that was explicitly bi to finally help kids feel like they’re seen. To help give the representation SHE always wanted.
But when I look at Velma? None of it hits the same.
Tumblr media
This isn’t a genuine attempt for representation. This is Mindy Kuling turning a character into a self-insert to make herself look smarter than everyone else and the most important person in a narrative. Truth is, this Velma is nothing more than a sociopath, narcissistic dipshit who thinks she’s better than everyone else but is actually more aggravating than endearing.
So...Good job representing YOURSELF there, Mindy.
And this?
Tumblr media
This isn’t representation. This is a shield.
A way to protect the show from any criticism because it couldn’t possibly be bad. They have gay characters! Gay characters are good in everything!
Except that is the LAST reason you should include gay characters! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE more LGBTQA+ representation in media. What I don’t love is obvious attempts to pander to audiences just to avoid criticisms. And keep in mind, this is NOT the first attempt a creator wanted to make Velma gay.
James Gunn wanted to make her gay in the live action movie, but WB said no.
Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated (the GOAT of the Scooby-Doo franchise) wanted to make Velma gay, but could only imply it because Cartoon Network didn’t greenlit Steven Universe yet.
THOSE are genuine attempts to make Velma gay, to represent people because the creators of both products agreed that it was the least they could do.
But making Velma and Daphne a thing just to protect a show is nothing more than shallow and inconsiderate of the hard fight dozens of people put up with for the sake of representation.
And, honestly, I’d be a little more forgiving if the writing in Velma was good. But it’s not.
Within the first minute, this show features...
Tumblr media
Cockroaches having sex...
Tumblr media
And fifteen year olds taking a shower to make a joke about how over-sexualized a series’ pilot can be.
First of all: FUCK YOU FOR MAKING ME FIND THIS SCREEN SHOT FOR A POINT!
Second: You lose every ounce of credibility that you actually care about people when one of the first moves you make in your series is to sexualize minors for the sake of a joke.
A joke that doesn’t make sense at that. Point me to a series pilot that’s over-sexualized. If you get more than ten, I’ll say you have a point. I won’t say that sexualizing minors to make it was a good thing, but I’ll at least say that, “Yeah. You’re right. So many pilots do this. SO STOP DOING IT!”
That’s the level of writing Velma has. And it’s why they have their “representation” to protect themselves. Meanwhile, you want to know the level of writing you’ll find in The Owl House and Amphibia?
Tumblr media
Villains who prove that the most dangerous people are the ones who make the rules.
Tumblr media
Jokes that are actually funny.
Tumblr media
Likable main protagonists who are kind and caring to the people around them.
Tumblr media
Protagonists who have heartfelt relationships with other great characters, to the point that it breaks your heart to see them leave each other.
And on top of that, actually good representation. But here’s the thing: The representation isn’t only genuine. It’s a bonus. Something great to add onto everything else the writers and the creators do right.
What it isn’t is an attempt to protect a show from what it does wrong.
And that’s it. That’s the LAST time I’ll ever talk about Velma. I really mean it this time.
Talking about this show past it’s premier is already more attention it deserves. And if you were smart, you would not only stop watching, but stop talking. The best attention to give something you hate is NO attention.
If you really want to waste time, waste it by watching something good, like The Owl House and Amphibia. They may be kids shows, but they have more maturity than a single second of Velma.

an unhinged (and unofficial) dissertation on the pjo fandom
so i don't usually post anything that isn't my-works-related, but i had a...mildly heated discussion with a fellow film student tonight about the pjo show and it's got me thinking. bear with me, we'll be here awhile.
as we all know, the first season of pjo has ended. i've stayed relatively OFF tumblr and other social media during this time, but i know there are a lot of OG fans who are (in their words) "massively disappointed" in the show. most of the complaints i've heard have been during in person conversations though, so this post is mostly going to be referencing real complaints i've heard.
i've been a part of this fandom since i was thirteen. that's nearly eight fucking years of my life that i've devoted to the pjo universe. i have written and consumed YEARS' worth of fanfiction, i have read and reread every book so many times i can quote them forwards and backwards, and i went to the bookstore every single year on the new books' release dates to pick up my copies in-person. this fandom, these characters and this world have brought so much joy to my life, and i don't think i could ever fully articulate that in words. when i think of this series, i genuinely feel nothing but happiness.
but a few years ago—around the time i started college—i started distancing myself from the fandom for one glaring reason. this fandom can be such an...angry place? like, genuinely, i don't know how far it goes back—maybe all the way to the release of HoA, honestly—but i wasn't here pre-HoA, so all i know is that i very much remember how much people hated ToA when it came out.
here i was, having the TIME of my life with apollo and his silly little haikus, and people are going to war over how the series' writing quality has gone to shit and how everything was better before, blah, blah, blah. IN SPITE of everything that series gave us—discussion of the repercussions of child abuse and ptsd, representation of lgbtqa+ characters, and deep psychological messages that really teach young readers, i think, how to better understand themselves and their emotions and deal with them in healthy ways. and it just wasn't fun to be in a fandom where, as soon as you go "hey, did you read the new book?" they scoff and roll their eyes and only want to talk about how terrible it is. (i also missed all the discourse on the sun and the star when it came out—PHENOMENAL read, btw—but i've read some things that lead me to believe that it wasn't well received either, in spite of how lovely it was.)
so...it's dramatic to say i "left" the fandom, but i certainly withdrew from it. deleted my pjo ao3 and tumblr, started over with a different fandom. but the love has always been there, and the show starting really helped spark it fully back to life.
but now, the same thing is happening again, i'm noticing. remember back in the day, when we only had the shitty fucking movies, and we were like "man, ANYTHING would be better than this garbage. literally just give us actors who are the right age and we'll be happy." well, now we have PHENOMENAL kid actors who genuinely are having a good time playing our beloved characters, and instead of supporting them, we're STILL complaining about them not being "portrayed correctly"?
i've talked to so many people who complain that percy is "too smart," which is kind of a bullshit insult to percy's canon character. in the books (at least the first five) we're seeing things ONLY from percy's pov. he's a kid who's struggled with learning disabilities and been told he's an idiot all his life by everyone except his mom—but as others have pointed out way more eloquently than i could, percy is a very intelligent and powerful individual while maintaining his goofy fun personality, which is WHY so many people love him so much. he's complex, and i think they managed to capture that really well in the show even amidst all the changes.
don't get me started on the fucking racism towards leah sava jeffries—i'm honest to gods ashamed that there are racists who call themselves pjo fans. she is so talented, and everything we ever could have hoped for in an on-screen annabeth. ALL of the kids are—there's literally no argument to be had there.
and then, if people aren't complaining about the casting, it's the series' writing. or there's too much exposition. rick is changing too many things. the directors don't know what they're doing. it's not a TRUE book adaptation. (someone said that to me, and i genuinely laughed because i thought they were joking. when the MOVIES exist, they wanted to make that comment about the show.)
are there some things i would change about the show, given the opportunity? god, yes. the set design for the underworld was horrendous. (in my opinion, of course.) but here's the thing. i have spent eight years of my life waiting for this show to happen, and in that time, i've learned a lot about how much goes into successfully producing such a complex series. how much money and time is spent, and how many people have to be on board to make it happen. it's genuinely kind of miraculous that we're even getting this show at all, considering all the ways it could have failed before it even made it out of pre-production.
and i think we, as fans, sometimes forget that we aren't owed this. we don't own the percy jackson franchise. it makes me so sick and tired when authors or artists in any capacity feel like they have to cater their works to the masses, because they know they'll get thrown into the fucking fire if they don't. rick and becky riordan didn't have to got to the trouble of producing this show for us. they chose to—everyone involved chose to—because they wanted to make something fun and enjoyable not only for the fans, but everyone who chose to be a part of it.
do you know how insane it is that, when you read pretty much any interview of pjo bts, everyone talks about how fun the production was? i've been on film sets. they can be ABSOLUTELY miserable when they're not done right. but eight months into production, the kids were still laughing and having a good time, everyone's still giving 100%, they're excited, it's fun. walker was willing to go into a diving tank for a full fucking day in order to get one scene—i know i would never have that kind of dedication, and i bet 99% of you wouldn't either.
i know this has gotten really long-winded, but i've said all of that to say that...i'm kind of tired of fans trying to bring down the show, and more than that, trying to bring down each other for having a good time. as i've said before (many times, i'm sure), i waited eight years for this, and i have had SUCH a fun time watching it. assuming we get a season 2 renewal, there are going to be even more new fans coming in than we've already gotten from season 1, and i want this fandom to be a fun and positive place for them. for all of us. we don't have to miserable and angry all time. we can critique the show, sure—it's not perfect, and it was never going to be—but we have to remember that television is an art form, and that art is subjective even when it involves our favorite characters. and we can accept that and still have a good time, because it's just more fun to have fun, you know?
this fandom has always had so much potential to be the BIGGEST, most supportive and kind and loving fandom. with how much representation this series has, with how much content we've been given, with the SHEER massive number of us...i've always thought we could be a really, really great community. maybe it's impossible to hope that we could be the best fandom on earth, but if nothing else...could we all try to just be a little bit kinder? genuinely, as cheesy as it may sound...it's just nicer when we're nice to each other. and when there's so many real things in the world to be mad about...i would much rather this be a place where we can come to at the end of a long day and just...feel at home. personally, i just think that would be really, really nice.

This a lil retweet from Viv
Tumblr media
I agree with this tweet in a general context. Being constantly hated on for every you do, unsolicited "criticism" from haters and trolls mostly when you just want to create things/share things is draining. We all human, expectations of what we do especially on the online sphere cannot be on an all time high because we make mistakes.
BUT that depends on the "mistakes" you make, the reasons why you getting hate, criticism and why expectations of you are high.
Viv, is the last person this tweet relates to even if she retweeted this. The hate Viv gets comes on for years. From drawing minor characters in inappropriate situations, drawing a n*zi OC, agreeing with unsavoury individuals (not anymore now just mentioning it), to now with Transphobic messages that came out from Viv, employee abuse allegations and the list goes on. The criticism Viv gets is on her shows, from lackluster depictings of Poc in her shows, to appropriating/making real religions an aesthetic for her shows, her poor writing choices, poor worldbuilding, handling sensitive topics poorly in her shows, poor LGBTQA+ representation ect. The bar is higher for Viv because of the success she has made, she has a show on A24, her own studio, a successful indi show, a loyal and influential fan base and persona this cannot be excused. Viv isn't some small time creator anymore so it comes with the territory that the bar for her is higher, the expectations are higher because of her influence so onevcan't keep lowering the expectations of Viv and also she's a grown adult that has made exceptional "mistakes" so lower expectations will dismiss accountability on Viv. Time and time again Viv's fanbase has said "she's just human she makes mistakes", how many constant mistakes must Viv make for her to finally change and take accountability for her actions, its been years now. And lastly the compassion part I get it but the coddling/compassion Viv has received for years swept all she has done under the rug, and I know Viv has mental health issues I have compassion and sympathize with her for her mental health issues on its own, but she also has a track record of using her mental health as a shield from criticism, it being a kind of "distraction" to get the minds of people away from the the harmful actions she has done on to people and to rile up her fans to go on full protection mode of her which causes... an abundance of issues.
A good tweet in general but hmm not so much when you're a problematic individual.

Having been lurking for quite a while, I've seen a series of opinions regarding TSATS, and as someone who tries their best to remain neutral, I think I can give a bit of insight into the discourse.
(Containing few minor SPOILERS)
So far, I have seen the reasons people have given as of:
Why they like TSATS:
It's a LGBTQA+ representation in a middle schoolers (10-13, according to B&N) book: there're various interpretion of this sentiment, however I believe this would be the general term.
It's about Nico and Will - excluding the homosexual nature of the relationship (which is included in the above claim) and more into their specific dynamic/ interactions.
The character growth of Nico and the emergence of Will as a protagonist/secondary protagonist character.
A minor part: (background) platonic relationships (Nico - Dionysus, Will - the trogs, etc...)
Why they do not like TSATS:
The story's pace, writing style, wording... technically those involving writing techniques (and let me tell you this a HUGE point), including the claims of 'cringness'.
Inconsistences between established canon materials and re-introduced materials (another HUGE point but like. not surprising) - including incorrect recallings, contradictory plotlines...
Unfamiliar characterization - aka supposedly OOC. (Including Tartarus btw)
Again: representation but questionable. (As of now, I still have multiple asks unanswered regarding Will as bi-representation, Nico's coming-out and asking-out Will)
Again: Nico's and Will's characterization
And their dynamics.
So many more small details I don't know how to categorize: inappropriate culture reference, questionable plot choices (including but not limited to the whole Cacodemons thing),...
These are only the majorities, as it wouldn't bring a broad look into the dicourse as a whole if I try to add too many information and opinions with varying level of detailed. As you can see, the negative reviews are overwhelming, whereas even some of the positive feedbacks are still debetable.
Of course, my engagement can play a large role in this report, considering this is my personal summation, and I'm pretty sure there's a number of posts I'm prevented from engaging. So, if there's any popular opinions I've yet to include, please do let me know - especially the good ones.
If anything, I'd like to see what rank TSATS currently holds amongst Rick's books in the scale of idk mayby PJO to BOO.

GIVING CREDIT
Saluting the behind the scenes talent making movie magic
Rob Youngson is a unit stills photographer for film and television. He's captured images for Belfast, A Haunting in Venice, The Great Escaper, Heanstopper St and Atlanta S3. He also shoots stills for posters. 'An effective still image has to communicate a lot in a single moment. An onlooker should know the tone, the genre and who stars in the production within a few seconds. It should leave them with a question: what happens? The answer to which is always, to go and see the film. It's the visual equivalent of a hook in pop music.'
How would you describe your job in simple terms?
I work with the cast and crew to capture striking still images during filming - without being a distraction or affecting the schedule.
I work with the publicist to ensure I get the images needed to publicise the film. I also capture behind-the-scenes images, which highlight the collaborative process and anything unique about the production. I may work with the props department to take period-accurate portraits for set dressing.
I've also consulted actors on how to use old-fashioned prop cameras convincingly.
How did you get into set photography?
I trained and worked as a theatre lighting designer while photographing bands on the side. Then I discovered that this job existed through an article in Nikon Owner magazine.
It was an interview with Kimberley French (Brokeback Mountain, The Revenant). I knew straight away I had to do this. So I went to work at one of the rental companies that hires cameras and lenses to productions.
I cleaned the kit, loaded the trucks and got to know people in the industry. used any leave to work on short films and then went freelance. Early on, I assisted an established unit stills photographer on some studio shoots. He then recommended me for a job he couldn't take and that put my work in front of the right people to get hired again.
What's the biggest misconception about your job?
That still images are screen grabs from the film. This is a widespread misconception, even within the industry. It doesn't work for two reasons. The technical reason is that the common shooting frame rate of 24fps doesn't freeze motion enough for those screen grabs to be printed at billboard size.
The second and most important reason is artistic; what works well for a moving image doesn't necessarily make a strong still photograph. Another misconception is that actors are difficult to work with. They are usually lovely. Actors have to step into a vulnerable place while surrounded by noise and crew and kit. They have to keep going to that place again and again for different camera angles. Part of what makes a good unit stills photographer is respect for the acting process. Sometimes my job is knowing when to step away and allow the actors space to work.
What's been the most memorable moment on a film set?
Watching Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh make each other laugh on day one of shooting Belfast. We had all been in lockdown for so long, it felt like a new beginning. It felt like photographing love and hope and friendship.
What's the worst thing about your job?
Missing time with my family because I'm working away. Sometimes standing in a field on a night shoot, in February, in the snow, I start to question it. Those moments can feel tough. But a lot of the crew are in that same situation with you. Working on good scripts with nice people makes the time away from home, the long hours and driving, a lot easier.
What's the best thing about your job?
Knowing that my images help stories to find an audience. Stories that take years of hard work and hundreds of people to get told. On set, the best thing is being witness to incredible acting, from both legends and up-and-coming talent. Seeing what the Heartstopper cast are doing for LGBTQA* representation right now is special. I'm also currently working with two incredible young actors. I am so excited for more people to discover their storytelling potential.
If someone wants to do your job, what's the best route in?
Get on to set any way you can, in any role. Take photos across all genres of photography. Welcome honest feedback on your work. Don't sweat the kit you haven't got. You'll get hired for your eye and how well you get on with people, not what's in your bag. The necessity to work on low/no-budget jobs early in your career is a barrier to many, especially as a lot of opportunities centre around expensive cities. Screenskills and BAFTA have resources for helping bridge that gap - seek those out. Go and see as much art and as many films as you can.
Remember… (most memorable moment on a film set) Watching Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh make each other laugh on day one of shooting Belfast. We had all been in lockdown for so long, it felt like a new beginning. It felt like photographing love and hope and friendship. — Rob Youngson

"Canon MLM pairing would outshine Bumblebee."
That's a weird reason not to have more LGBTQA+ representation. What's next, there shouldn't be a FtM trans character, because it would outshine May - a MtF trans character?
There shouldn't be a bisexual male character, because it would outshine Blake - a bisexual female character?
There shouldn't be a nonbinary human character, because it would outshine CC and Little/Somewhat - nonbinary animal characters?
There shouldn't be gay male characters, because it would outshine Ilia and Coco - canon lesbian characters? Besides theres already good enough gay characters, like Scarlet (remember him? He existed in V3 for 10 seconds) and Pilot Boi (he's dead and there's no mention of him being gay in the story).
Outside of Fairgame, I can't say there is any other popular MLM ship in the RWBY fandom and even if Fairgame is popular, Bumbleblee is still the more popular ship. WLW ships that aren't Bumblebee or Whiterose already don't get much spotlight and now there shouldn't be any canon MLM ship, because Bumbleblee might not be Miss Popular anymore?
LGBTQA+ representation shouldn't be a competition. We're a community, meant to support one another and that includes caring about other identities getting representation outside of our own.
"There's already enough shows with MLM stories."
You mean, MLM stories where the watchers didn't get queerbaited? Where the MLM couples got happy endings? Where MLM romance got writen with respect? Where MLM shippers didn't get accused for not letting "guys just be friends", forcing romance, fetishising gay people etc. ???
MLM stories where the romance are treated normal and writers putting work into the romance the same they would have done for straight F/M couple??
And just because there are shows with MLM romance in USA, doesn't mean any other place have MLM shows too.
"There's already enough shows with MLM romance."
In the whole word or are you talking about USA, be specific here, ok?
But why did Bumbleblee have to become canon in the first place? There is already enough WLW ships in animation.
Rupphire from SU, Korrasami from TLOK, Catradora from SPOP, Lumity from TOH, Harlivy from DC, Bubbline from Adventure Time, Caitvi from Arcane, Harumichi from Sailor Moon etc.
If RWBY fans want to see WLW representation, why don't they just watch other shows?🙄 No need to force in WLW romance in this story, because what if the WLW ship takes away the spotlight from the F/M ships?🥺
I won't deny there isn't a problem of how MLM relationships gets treated vs how WLW relationships get treated by media and fandoms, but it shouldn't mean MLM have to stop existing. It doesn't mean wanting to see MLM couples on screen is bad and that you don't care about WLW couples. MLM romance still has to deal with homophobia. Just like WLW romance does.
But God forbit a person wants there to be a slight bit of MLM representation in a 10 years old show where most romance is F/M and the on-screen gay romance is mainly WLW (Ilia's crush on Blake, Saphron and Terra, Bumblebee)
Not really much to say you've basically said everything that needed to be said and I agree with it all

I am totally with you on the whole Sallie May thing. I do get why she was popular, I mean, it's not everyday you have trans representation, but to me, Sallie May really isn't that great. She has very little screentime, and her characterization is pretty much Millie, but trans. I mean, hooray for representation, but I felt it was way overblown for what little significance Sallie had to the show. Call me crazy, but I think for 'good representation', a trans person should have to do something more than 'just being trans'.
Exactly.
Like yeah that’s great and all that you have queer characters and we’re getting gay and lesbian and bi and pan and trans and non binary and all of sexualities and all of genders (some more than others which is unfortunate cause the LGBTQA+ can’t exist without the L or the A or the B if that makes sense)
But the next step is better representation. More major characters that are trans. More leading sapphic relationships. More shows like Owl House please!

Hazbin Hotel fans that are trans, sex workers and gay after Addict: “WOW! This is the best and most consistent representation of abuse that I have ever seen! I feel so cared for! Sure hope that the representation of what we go through doesn’t end up being highly fetishized and disrespected later! :D”
Thousands of gay, sex worker, and transgender fans, years later, that see all of the fans who don’t know about the merchandise, tweets, or Helluva Boss that still think that the representation of lgbtqa who are abuse victims within the franchise is “good” because all that they’ve seen is Hazbin’s pilot, the Hazbin comics and Addict:

Ok, all of the drafts are done! I am outta here (Twitter wise, for Tumblr I just want a hiatus.)
Goodbye!

Sex Education on Netflix is the first show I've seen affirm it's possible to be Christian and LGBTQA+ and God, it's really put me on my feet.
Seeing that explored, watching the character in that situation have their difficulties presented with such clear love and understanding for these two parts of themselves by the writing... you rarely see that? It is SUCH an antagonistic and isolating conflict in most spaces, it's so easy to feel isolated by both communities. And getting see representation that clearly came from or listened to people who have been living that reality, showing that it's ok, it isn't shameful and deserves love and a space in both communities, with Eric being just a person like anyone else with a whole life and so many other interests and relationships on top of it too just. Ugh.
I don't know if it's possible to put into words how that whole arc reached into my soul and soothed something inside me that had been hurting worse than I'd even realized until that moment.
The series was really good about reaching out to so many different parts of people from so many walks of life with real empathy, but even so. That validation was NOT what I expected when they first introduced the topic of religion vs queerness. I finished the show last night and have been teary about it all morning. My feels. Uff

@gay-jewish-bucky IT REALLY FUCKING IS. No matter what if it’s a canon gay couple it’s just not going to be good enough for the exact same people who complain about wanting more gay rep. Part of getting gay rep is accepting that we’re going to get rep for all kinds of gays, all kinds of relationships, all levels of relevance - not just the kind that some people want or deem acceptable.
We finally have what is, in my opinion, a pretty well balanced canon queer ship that isn’t just ~hints and eye contact~, that isn’t squeaky clean, that have meaningful conversations and show love and affection like it’s not a big deal. It’s treated on equal levels to any straight ship on the show and I think that’s a breath of fresh goddamn air tbh.
I know people are always going to complain, but this topic has gotta be one of the most annoying and most exhausting ones. People should be happy we get any kind of lgbtqa+ rep, and that that rep is getting not just more diverse over the years but better too. There’s never going to be Perfect Queer Representation and to bitch and hold out for it?? To nitpick the fuck out of every ship?? Why would you, y’know??
#sorry for ranting jksdhfkds#i feel ancient saying this - like a grandma regaling her grandkids with tales of walking to and from school in the snow barefoot - but#i remember when there were no canon queer ships on tv or in movies#there wasnt shit for any of us#no matter what your label was#and now we have enough canon ships and canon lgbtqa+ characters that people feel they're entitled to be picky??#like my dude we just started getting this kind of content in my teen + adult life#maybe appreciate how far we've gotten studios and companies to come in a relatively short amount of time#maybe appreciate the positive for 2 seconds before you start demanding stuff and whining when you dont get it. especially when it#wasnt promised to you  - btw. in regards to the ship i was talking about the showrunners said it was going to go down differently from#the books. they aged up the characters afterall + they were smashing 2 series together to create a whole new thing. they warned people#we got the canon ship. they put a lot of thought into writing it and the actors - who are big fans of the books - put a lot of thought#into acting it. that's the other thing!! actors who give a shit a bout providing quality queer rep!!! why are y'all not talking about that?#that's also not a given when it comes to people playing queer roles. there's a lot special going on here and to be so negative..#idk man it's doing a huge disservice to a lot of people + it ignores the progress made + it's whiny and annoying#i'm annoyed. does it show?? i think it might show#sdhjfsdkfs#sorry again for turning my reply into a rant. cole ur an angel and i love u#replies#maison speaks

But if you’re videotaping the store while calling for it’s boycott doesn’t it defeat the purpose anyway
Boycotts are supposed to give the boycotted place less revenue not more revenue
Bigots boycotting stores that celebrate diversity and inclusion? Good.
More stores need to (or at least they should) have products that celebrate diversity and representation .
And not just corporate stores
Theres places that are owned by women, black folks, Jewish people, Muslims, lgbtqa plus, Asian Americans Pacific Islanders, and others who’s race, ethnicity, religion and gender that need to be represented and celebrated. It’s important to highlight them as well

Sunday Confessions:
1. Paul Rudd looks his age to me lol ik ppl hype him up saying he looks "ageless" bt he looks his age (54) n theres nothing wrong with that (ik some ppl hasve issues with aging.. lik its nt a priveledge to age n grow older). He prob has good genetics, a good skincare routine that includes sunscreen, balanced diet and has little to no cosmetic surgery which can age you very drastically.
2. On the contrast Kylie Jenner looks A LOT older for her age (almost double her age if im honest), n honestly it looks lik her face is frozen in some instances. All the plastic surgery she got from such a young age is disturbing, i hope the overload of wanting various surgeries from that family dnt trickle down to all their (biracial) daughters bt honestly its probaby inevitable.
3. Good that Jacob/Austin/Cailee etc got recognition from Elvis/Priscilla movies bt i cant get beind the resurgence of Elvis, a whole MAN who was attracted to an underage GIRL, its disturbing. Again, this has nothing to do with the actors cuz thats their job bt just the hype for Elvis as a person (beyond somebody being a fan of his music) isnt for me, n something ill never get.
4. I want more dark/brown skinned it gurls who are in their 20s. Thought it b letitia wright bt that anti-vaxx/anti-lgbtqa thing didnt help. Thoight it b dominque thorne but her show hasnt come out (when i thought it would by now?). The closest who i can think of is keke, whose great bt i want MORE black young women, lupita, whose gorgeous/talented bt older, and Kiki Layne, who i last saw in about 5 minutes in Dont Worry Darling 😔 literally WHERE are the dark/brown skinned young women in hollywood, its tiring
Wow Anon.... I hope your edges are in tact rofl 🤣
1. I think Paul looks good for his age. He doesn't look 50s to ME (more like 40s), but hey, not everyone will agree 🤷🏾‍♀️
2. Kylie.... no comment 😬
3. I honestly haven't seen the "Priscilla" movie yet, so I'm not sure how he's portrayed in that film, but the stuff that I've read from Priscilla's own mouth so far, it sounds like they started off as friends, but I could be wrong. 🤷🏾‍♀️ But yea, I totally understand Anon if you don't wanna watch. Even though he didn't marry her until she was of age, it will never not be weird because he knew her when she was 14. 😵‍💫
4. I totally 100% agree with this Anon. 🙏🏾 I've been wanting to see more darker-skinned black women representation in the 20s age range in blockbuster Hollywood films for AGES. 😩 I feel like we're only really recognized when we're late 30s or early 40s and beyond. Or, when we're too young to play someone's love interest. But darker black women in their 20s onscreen? It's just so rare these days..... 😔 They make it seem like we don't even exist.

5, 10 and 18 please!
Thanks, friend!
5. share a positive memory about coming out!
Most of the people I came out to irl were like "uh okay, that's nice I guess" but online several people have come to identify as a-spec themselves or have cited my awareness work as the reason they were able to be a good ally to someone they know who came out to them as a-spec!
10. who has been your supportive idols in your self discovery?
My tumblr community here is absolutely the only reason I knew anything about queerness. Shout-out to all the Doctor Who and asexual blogs who were around in 2013-2015 and beyond!
18. what’s your favorite parts of lgbtqa characterization in media?
For teen representation: Heartstopper
For aro ace women: Elsa from Frozen (especially Frozen 2) and Jo in Greta Gerwig's Little Women
For sapphic rep: A League of Their Own. I also haven't watched everything on Apple+ but every show I have watched so far has had sapphic representation. haha I got it so I could watch Dickenson, which is obviously very sapphic, but I didn't realize all the other shows I have seen had sapphic characters until I got to those episodes. haha

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a warm hug of a literary experience. If you're looking for something slow-paced, laid-back, and utterly heartwarming, then it's definitely the book for you. It's also got:
Mouth-watering descriptions of baked goods
LGBTQA+ representation
A giant cat
A whole ton of charm and heart
I mean, what's not to love?
