Christmas 2023

One of my favorite holiday traditions it to give a book on Christmas Eve. So hopefully in time for you to cozy up before bed, here is my Christmas Eve gift to you - a rec list!

I don't know how many people are behind this account but since I'm really amazed how you know or at least can find a lot of fic, if you have a little free time, do you mind sharing your favorite fanfic? Sorry if I'm bothering you, and always a massive thank you for your dedication!

Hi anon! We've been asked about this over the years, but unfortunately our answer is still no. When we started the blog we decided to be strict about our "no recs" rule (as mentioned in our guidelines) and we even put together a fic reccer masterlist for people looking for recs.

The only time we have made an exception was in 2022 when @thedrarrylibrarian asked us to be a part of their Happy Hour recs! You can find that here. Otherwise we do not do fic recs on this blog.

I heard you like werewolf Draco 👀 for some reason in like half the fics I write Draco is a werewolf. Just feels Right somehow

I really, really do - and would love some links to these if you're so inclined. I did just go poking around AO3 and found Jasmine and Salt which is so delightfully tender and funny and lovely - my heart! This sort of care-giving (and bathing!!!! Suds alert!!!) is beautiful to read.

I think this might be because of this (brilliant) wolfy rec list by my favourite librarian @thedrarrylibrarian, where I discovered myself three times, having thought I wasn't really into writing creature fic. I think I really love the trope because it can often be quite political, and that's always been something that interests me as a reader (and as a writer too actually). Plus all the fun stuff like the physiological traits etc, it really allows the author to have a good time.

Of those three fics of mine, one (the little short one) has wolf Harry, but in the other two - i had originally written Draco as a wolf too in Take the Moon but i ran out of time to develop that so had to take it out - probably left some hints in there that don't make sense, but I was really pushed for time! And in Howl they are both werewolves, bitten by the same wolf - twin bites. So actually i do also love wolfy Draco, you were correct!

Some of the werewolf fics i loved are already on the list above (run do not walk to The One You Feed by @sweet-s0rr0w for instance) but some others i loved recently are As the Crow Flies by @the-starryknight, Love Bites by @m0srael, and Thunder Moon by @maesterchill. Plus rec lists for Werewolf Harry and Werewolf Draco by the sublime @sitp-recs.

As always my terrible memory is no doubt robbing me of loads of other fics that i loved so if anyone has other recs, please do reblog here for science.

Reccers on tumblr appreciation pt. #1

Did you know that tumblr, our little corner of the internet, is filled to the brim with the best reccers around? Yeah. (They are also really, really, really cool). Like:

1. @sitp-recs, who everyone knows is rec royalty. How many of us owe Liv at least part of our fandom experience? The amount of love and energy poured into every single rec is honestly astonishing. No matter what you’re looking for, you can be sure Liv’s got it: rare pairs, all the smut you could dream of, and have you checked out the incredible hidden gems series yet?

2. @thedrarrylibrarian – the amount of time and heart the librarian puts into each rec is huge, and still so far from the amount of love and delight we gain from them. You can go through the librarian’s blog for days, whether for a Friday happy hour, a brilliant chat with friends of the library, or just one of the dozens of recs, like this brilliant vacation rec list!

3. @lostdrarryfics are absolutely incredible. Can you believe we live in a world where there’s a whole blog dedicated to help us find lost fic! What! Angels! They found so many fics since starting up and helped countless souls. Check out their guidelines here and then help yourselves! Maybe you can even help find a missing fic!

4. @thebooktopus makes gorgeous recs, including the most brilliant themed lists, like the New Year’s Rec-olutions, or the unbelievably awesome mutuals March, or the wonderful April showers. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re sure to end up happy here!

5. @sweet-s0rr0w is a reccing powerhouse, with glorious recs like ‘5 favourite fics’ and the phenomenal ‘Drarry Round the World’ recs. Daily Blog June 30, 2023

Big arse Sigh. My daughter and her boyfriend have Covid. It's her first time. They are quarantined upstairs. I had it over a year ago and do not want a repeat performance. Fingers crossed they get through it okay. In the meantime, windows are open, fans are on, and I have two air purifiers turned on. Also have a stash of N95 masks, hand sanitizer, medicines, thermometer, Covid antigen tests, and oximeter. *Rom is prepared*

As today is the last day of Pride month, I wanted to highlight a series that @thedrarrylibrarian has been posting called Happy Pride. Okay this is something AO3 users should look into. It's a Fanworks Permission Statement Builder by @flamingwell. This would be put in your AO3 profile and maybe in the notes for your stories. The following is from the post in case you're not quite sure what a permission statement is: A fanworks permission statement (also known as a blanket permission statement or transformative works permission statement) is very simple: it's something you post in a publically-visible place (usually your AO3 profile) that tells other fan creators what you are and aren't okay with in terms of other people making fanworks based off your stuff. It can be as simple as a sentence or two, or as complicated as you want to communicate your preferences clearly.

Now, I haven't used this yet but it's high on my ToDo list! I'll let you know how it goes when task is accomplished.

Okay, that's all I have for today because I am still writing! Usually, I'm poking a stick at my muse but right now my muse thinks its cute by chasing a fluffle of plot bunnies.

Hi!!! First I want to say I loved loved loved Loverboys! The relationship development was phenomenal and organic and exactly what I love about Drarry. I ended up staying up waaaay too late to read it. Thank you so much for sharing your writing with us.

Second, I wanted to see if you had any recs for fics with similar relationship vibes? I find myself in the mood for Drarry fics were they are pretty vicious to each other (and understandably so). Your fic felt really realistic to canon. While I love all sorts of Drarry fics & relationship progressions, right now I’m in the mood to see these two really have to work to get together. So if you have any recommendations, I’d love them! But if not, I really just wanted to say thank you for Loverboys. Off to read more of your wonderful writing!!!

first of all, thank you so much for your kindness which has kept me going for DAYS, and also apologies for the slow response!! it means so much to me that you enjoyed loverboys, it's easily the most fun i've ever had while writing.

i definitely write fic more than i read it, so i don't have a lot of recs at the tips of my fingers, especially for longer fics - but one that came to mind immediately was Wild by seefin. it doesn't have a super similar premise but i think it has a really great amount of push and pull between draco and harry that feels so satisfying and real and fabsolutely delicious. one of my all time fav fics for sure.

but i also outsourced this question to a few friends whose taste i trust and this is what they recommended!

I cannot abide fics in which Ginny is the bad guy! Even in fics where the break up between Harry and Ginny is difficult and complicated, I fully believe that they eventually make it back into friendship. Happy Valentine's Day to you all! To celebrate, I'm back with another collaborative Drarry reclist, featuring a new lovely bunch of Drarry writers, artists, reccers, and fans!

Once again, the question was: ‘what one or two fics, or scenes, or quotes, represent peak Drarry romance to you?’ and (in what is rapidly becoming a nightmare for me), no duplicates from previous years were allowed. Thank you so much to everyone who took part, I hope you enjoy the results!

(I have a hard time containing myself about dragon tamer Draco, and everyone knows it. I’m about as subtle as a brick when something pings a sweet spot in my brain. But this fic is so much more than a hot, aloof, sex king dragon tamer Draco who has weaver Harry weak in the knees. It is also so very bright and clear in my mind; the visuals are so affecting, just like the creations that Harry weaves. Favorite scene: Harry casually chatting with dragons. 12/10 would be unhinged again.)

(I’m not a big crier over fics. Maybe three or four have made me cry this year. This one made me lose it. I think the thing that stands out to me is the visceral capture of emotion. You can feel Draco’s broken heart, and then you can feel Harry’s. I could probably get worked up about it right now. Favorite scene: Draco crying over the broken tea cup. I literally can’t function when I think about it. 12/10 would cry again.)

💗The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls by thecouchsofa (E, 256k)

(I might be cheating since I’m still savoring The Brightest Constellation of Our Souls but I’m including it because it is Peak Drarry Romance. TheCouchSofa always has this intensely brilliant characterization. Harry is heartbreakingly oblivious. Draco is prickly and about as subtle as a brick over pining for Harry. This also features depression!Harry, which has gotta be one of my favorite Harrys. She writes depressed Harry with such delicacy, handling the ins and outs of mental illness and trauma with care, but also making it fucking funny. Favorite scene so far: Harry very casually slipping into conversation that he’s bisexual after he’s been traveling with Draco for an absurd amount of time without mentioning it. And Draco’s ensuing reaction. 12/10 will continue swooning.)

Draco let out a shocked chortle. He looked away at the street covered in rain, his left hand still resting on Harry’s chair. When he turned back towards Harry, he wasn’t laughing anymore.

He leaned in and kissed Harry on the lips.

(we watch Harry fall in love with Draco and come to terms with lots of aspects of his life. The little Google searches are just so sweet and tender and I loved, loved loved it. And the ending is so perfect.)

The world is theirs to explore. They'll keep driving.)

(Never Mind the Bollocks is a new fic from Erised 2023. I loved every moment of it, and Harry having so much fun and feeling like he belonged was everything. However, his drive to right and save all was still there. Chapter 18 brought it all together. I won't say how as the fic is so new, but, for me, it was so romantic with BAMF Harry showing up and Draco trying to be mad. Complete chef's kiss.)

(Told through jumps between the past and the present, I adore the way toomuchplor depicts the everyday romance of an established relationship. Too often romance is delegated to big displays of affection, when I think much of romance is in the mundane, routine moments. Listening to your partner share about their day is romantic. Making routine breakfast and coffee is romantic. The intimacy of having an ongoing inside joke about a cat name is unbearably romantic to me. These are the small, everyday moments that the foundations of grand romances are built upon, and this fic was a love note to those moments.)

💗Heal Thyself by astolat (T, 16k)

(it's a classic H/D fic that preserves Draco's prickly personality while still showing him reforming in a very realistic way. It's a slow-burn—Harry isn't really in the first half at all, and when he does show up he's still very suspicious of Draco—but as Draco shows his (new) true colors, Harry can't help that his suspicions turn to curiosity (one of my favorite tropes with reformed Draco fics) especially with the somewhat forced proximity they find themselves in that slowly turns into voluntary and frequent proximity. To me, maybe because of the slow burn, it seems like a very realistic depiction of how Draco could reform himself and how Harry can turn his suspicions into curiosity and eventually more to form a healthy relationship together.)
