I want to stay optimistic, but I don't have much faith that the HOTD writers will go through with any of the messages in the Dance aside from misogyny. Obviously, misogyny plays a big role in the Dance because it is the means to and end for the Greens, but the way the show focuses on this to favor Rhaenyra's claim and rule and this sort of diminishes the complexity of the story. By making it so that one side rightful, righteous, chosen by some divine powers, etc., etc. and one side that is perverse and corrupted and only there for greed, it takes away from one of the most important lessons in the Dance: Targaryens are not a divine superior race that should be exempt from the rage of common men that suffer at the cost of them.
(Also, ik ambition was a major motivator for the Greens in the books, but the books didn't try to frame Rhaenyra's right to the throne as God-given)
You might have already guessed, but the part of the dance I anticipated the most was Targaryens who perceive themselves to be divine and superior take the realm to shit fighting over a throne that neither of them actually deserve. They fight at the cost of everything and lose everything for a throne that neither of them keep for long because they are both inadequate rulers that rely heavily on their respective councils. When they make decisions on their own, their nearly equal incompetence shows because Aegon's choices are emotional and stupid and Rhaenyra's are paranoid and stupid. These are the people that cause the death of the dragons.
It feels like the show is trying to appeal to those stans that bend over backwards to defend their fave tyrants and believe the throne is a rightful possession of the Targaryens.

watching two dozen interviews of wes ball talk about how he made the maze runner movies is genuinely such a pleasure to watch. it's so so clear that he deeply loves the content of the maze runner books while still understanding that they're fucking insane and makes next to no sense. the vision he has for the movies are unparalleled, the way he slims down the books while still upping the character moments is so impressive!! he was able to capture the heart of the series while still making it really accessible to a general audience. it has a clear trilogy feel to it, which a lot of trilogies do NOT have. and the best part is the cast LOVES him, you can tell just by the way they describe and poke fun of wes that this project would NOT work without him. also the way the cast NEVER talks about dashner is so fucking good. they're like 'omg there's wes, the genius, doing a one man show haha so silly, ily wes' and then it hard cuts to someone being like 'james is on set a lot.'

oh another thing, i find it so funny that the newer books give you the option to chose what gender of lis the mc will be attracted to, and then if you chose youre only attracted to women it's a 50/50 chance you will have one li to chose from lol

Hiya!
I saw your SilRuggie post and I feel you on the "Silver and his many boyfriends" part.
Idk what it is about Silver but he's so... Shippable?
Like I ship SilVil, KalimSil and JadeSil which are kinda popular. But it's also stuff like RidSil and LeoSil (oh so much brainrot currently about LeoSil,) Which aren't as popular.
He's probably my most shipped character like... EVER.
(I may have gotten some ship names wrong)
IT’S THE CHEMISTRY IT’S THE WAY HE HAS CHEMISTRY WITH SO SOSOSO MUCH OF THE CAST!!! he’s so deeply just…good, and he cares so earnestly, and he has examples of interactions with almost fuckgng everyone at this point. like i can understand why someone would ship just abt any silver ship, i GET it, bc theres so much potential. i think i have like…3? that im neutral on? maybe?
also hearing u associate silvil with the kinda popular ones, im fuckign weak at the knees. that is incorrect but im pretending ur right bc it makes me oh so happy

Akira being like, obsessed w loyalty, but having it as a positive(ish) trait is so fun to me. He doesnt outright say it or ever ask for it, but theres like an unspoken bond between the thieves and himself. He asks for it (demands, really) because he gives it in return. Its the classic ‘ride or die’ mentality; he demands trust and loyalty bc he 100% trusts his team. He would not have baited himself into what would be considered his literal death if he was not COMPLETELY and UTTERLY faithful to his team and the cause. He trusted them to fulfill their end of the bargain no matter how difficult that wouldve been for them. And because of their mutual faith in each other, leader to team and team to leader, they all managed to make it out and live another school year.
He has very little regard for his life but hes not necessarily reckless. Hes calculated. And while hes a bit out of sorts in the beginning with all of these new ideas and concepts, he quickly finds his footing later in the year. And bc he is assembling a team of people who are loyal to Him, he can afford to be loyal right back to them. He can afford to be risky if the risk is mitigated by having his team follow up on his actions. This team has to run like a well oiled machine; any hiccups will get the rest of the team caught or worse; hurt or killed.
Ryuji inadvertently sets this trend, bc he is Ride or Die at heart and he somewhat influences Akira on this matter. And its why he is so reluctant to truly incorporate Goro onto the team (at first). Goro IMMEDIATELY clocks Akiras leadership as something heavier than simply ‘i lead this group to keep everyone on the same page’, but he wrongly assumes Akira has some sort of Thing about power. Theres no real power trip; he is not okay with limiting his teams voices on any matter. His ideas are not the end all, be all of any plan; hes Not Shido. I can imagine how tough Saes Palace was for everyone, but they needed to have unwavering faith in each other to pull off such a mindblowing plan.
I dunno where else im going w this, i just like thinking of Goro feeling some kinda way about Akira (and the thieves) unanimously declaring him as the leader of the thieves fully knowing what shady things theyve done up until this point. Someone who claims to change peoples hearts is deciding who gets to keep their free will or not, and to have a team basically say ‘yes hes our leader and we would die for him’ does NOT look good to anyone! Especially to someone who is quite literally killing people on behalf of someone Very Bad! Who then Dies for it!

I don't want to be too mean about this because I know it's probably unconscious behavior but I would like cql fans who claim that cql does more justice to the female characters than mxtx because it ostensibly has more screen time for them to really reflect on why they trust a giant media monopoly that paired one of the most important independent female characters with a man she had no chemistry with in the original text more than an independent young female author whose entire first book was made up of critique against popular media that relegates female characters to collectible love interests

“I was shooting Charlie from the side of the stage at the Müngersdorfer Stadium in Cologne [in 1982] when Keith decided to join in, eventually biting Charlie's neck whilst both continued to play to an audience of 50,000. Back on the band plane, Ronnie Wood drew a pen and ink drawing of the mimed vampiric encounter that had been spontaneously staged by Keith for my benefit."-Denis O’Regan, 2012

there's something so kind about how raz and dogen immediately connect. for raz to go in to camp not knowing much about dogen, it's easier for him to open up. dogen has already instilled trepidation in the hearts of the other kids, so his only real friend is lili, but raz is a special case. raz isn't one to judge, especially not to someone who welcomed him right off the bat. dogen is the first kid raz has a conversation with, and that's a pretty big deal. dogen might reach out to others with whom he's comfortable, but raz had been a total stranger, and yet, he's comfortable to sit on the steps with him and just talk. it's a really nice moment that gets overlooked because focus is given to lili watching raz and the impact of his declarations because there are clearly issues going on in raz's home. dogen has his own fair share of issues, both psychic and familial (which stem from his psychic issues), so it's incredibly pleasant he found a kindred spirit in raz.
