rewatched the ronin and the bride again and my heart literally ACHES for mizu. she was genuinely happy and in love..... her giddy laugh when she goes horse riding for the first time, the way her eyes light up when she sees mikio trying to tame kai for the first time, her little shy enamored smile when mikio is explaining the benefits of using a naginata right before the spar that changes everything.... Thinking about Harry and all the animal parallels that follow him through the narrative. It's true that these animal parallels reflect the way that the brutality of individualist moralism strips him of humanity as someone who has fallen through the safety nets, and his agonised shout of 'I don't want to be this kind of animal anymore' can be interpreted as a direct admission of the RCM's dehumanisation of him as a disabled addict who is no longer as 'useful' as he once was. Gottlieb even directly tells him '[he] lost [his] human visage a while back.' Jean calls him 'the most dangerous animal of them all'. The rabid dog that needs to be put down, the black dog (also a common metaphor for chronic mental illness!) that Mollins shoots as it licks its wounds; the scared, hurt, frightened animal lashing out, chewing off it's own leg to escape the trap that it's caught in. The wild dog is all they can see.

But then there is a flipside to these parallels too; a kindness, a gentleness, almost a freedom in Harry’s animal parallels. He's strong like a 'goddamn ox,' like a bear ('I had to kill the bear to become the bear'). He's a harrier hawk, a name given to ensure his safety, raised up to the level of the aerostatics looking down over Revachol, 'soar[ing] on the wings of [his] spirit hawk.' He's a leopard ('its impossible to know where you end and the leopard begins'), discovering or rediscovering a love of softness and sensuality that he'd not known before via the leopard print leotard that 'speaks to the animal inside [him]' and touches on his relationship with his gender ('Yes, this is the type of animal I want to be.').

He's a 'seagull', a bird that will do 'whatever it takes to survive,' a 'bird of paradise' that tells a story of 'endurance- and adaptation' ('You! You and the seagull are just alike!'). He survives, despite everything, despite the grimness of the world around him. He endures. Even the sea monster comparison is oddly kind ('You've become a sea monster -- giant, hidden and... strangely tender at heart'). Even as a monster, he's still gentle; he still has so much love for this world that has wrung every last bit out of him. As if his tenderness is such an inherent part of him that no matter what monstrous face he wears, no matter what creature is there in his shadow, he cannot help but have some trace of it at his core. His tender soul 'quivering like jello.' The pain he feels is raw and animal but so is the love he feels. So is the hope and the fear and the wonder.

mother mother — the sticks

turns out illustrating songs is the most fun thing to do like. ever. my three fnv protags vs little snippets from their past: old world blues starring andy ramirez, honest hearts starring ovidio ramirez, and last but not the least, oscar ramirez, in the act of procrastinating the main storyline. some ramblings under the cut:

the girl from the last one is summer, she's oscar's ex\partner in crime. i'll introduce her properly later also. drawing badass/serious art with ovidio is so weird cuz the sims completely ruined mine and my friends' perception of him. i made a werewolf bite him (i was curious and have never tried werewolves out in the sims 4 before) plus i play with wickedwhims on so..... yeah. he acted fucking FERAL. the only normal thing he did was a game of chess with arcade. he was such an insufferable household bully, like he literally snarled at people 24/7, scratched all the furniture all the time (and this household's dirt poor, they never had money to fix it lol), he could go hunting and then come back with random raw meat in his inventory, he banged people in public restrooms and was overall a mean, horny, horrible mess. eventually i made a PRISON for him 💀💀💀 it was a dark, almost empty room in the basement in which i put him during his transformations and then temporarily locked the door for him so he couldn't get out. so yeah, drawing his imprisoned younger version for this piece was a journey. you go to jail sir. bye

book-henry being a part of helping out queer youth from the beginning and his ending in the book being that he becomes the “father” of the homeless shelters for lgbtq+ kids. movie-henry allowing himself to finally step out into the world as alex does and see that there is something he can change; that he can also be an inspiration and body of hope for people through their support of him when he comes out and the eventual realization that this is how he can make a difference.

they’re different arcs, but they’re both beautiful and both so henry.

Quick comic based on the Forecaster’s dialogue when he thinks about ‘You’, more below the cut + some details i wanted to ramble about

page 1.

- wanted to give the Forecaster’s psyker abilities some kind of representation, and ultimately landed on a snake skeleton for the vibes and symbolisms

page 2.

- trying to use this page to represent the massive, overall concept and ideas at stake in the weeks surrounding the second battle for Hoover Dam, contrasted with the small, moving parts that keep it going and ultimately shift the overall outcome

page 3.

- trying to tell something of a story posture and expression-wise with House, Kimball, and Caesar: Kimball and Caeser leaning in, invested in the game, with House leaning back and merely watching, with his cards facedown on the table instead of in his hand, as they’ve been long since memorised

- the chips form important areas in the game overtop a faint road map of the mojave on tha table. These places being Camp McCarran, the Strip, Hoover Dam, and the Fort, with the platinum chip sitting alone in the Goodsprings area

- the four handguns are the ones you get in the DLCs - Police Pistol from DM, Sonic Emitter from OWB, Light Shining in Darkness from HH, and Laser Detonator from LW

- the symbols at the bottom in the shadows represent some of the factions the Courier can ally with/help in the game (from left to right: Chairmen, Boomers, White Glove Society, Remnants, Omertas, Followers of the Apocalyse, and the Great Khans)

- the symbols on the cards further goes into the metaphor, with the ‘hand’ the Courier is holding containing the factions who can help them in the final battle - the Mk 2. Securitrons, the Remnants, the Boomers, the Khans, the Strip

- My courier, Zihun, has a glass eye modelled after a Nightstalker, hence the reptillian eye in the last panel
