edmund absolutely adored snowy weather. waking up to snow on the ground was his dream come true, and he rarely waited long enough to be bundled up before rushing outside and leaping into the fluffy, cold snow. it was his favorite weather, and that was one trait about him that always made his mother and father laugh.
but upon the pevensie's return home, their mother notices the shift in edmund.
one evening, as it gets closer to christmas, she notices the snowfall outside, and smiles, calling to edmund, announcing the snow with the expectation that he'll rush to the glass, press his nose up against it, and ask delightedly if they can go sledding in the morning.
instead of the joyful shine in her youngest son's eyes, however, she sees nothing but horror as he abandons his chess game with susan in favor of scrambling backwards, getting as far away from the window as possible, curling up into the tiniest ball, his face pressed into his knees.
she's left at a loss for words, and reaches out for him, but she's too slow compared to his siblings. immediately, lucy's at her brother's side, crouching in front of him and holding his hands tightly as she whispers soft things in a nonsensical language. peter's grabbing the warmest blanket from the couch, and sitting beside edmund, wrapping it around his shoulders and tucking his brother against his side. susan's returning from the kitchen where she had rushed off to as soon as her mother announced the snow, a steaming mug of tea (not hot chocolate, never hot chocolate. the taste makes edmund want to vomit, memories of cold touches burning his skin, and tempting whispers of power in his ears) held tightly in her hands before it's passed off to edmund.
their mother can only watch as edmund shakes, eyes firmly fixed on lucy's face as she holds his hands with a smile, as peter begins speaking softly, a whispered story only for his siblings' ears, as susan gently runs her fingers (warm and firm, never cold and frail like the ones that haunt edmund's dreams) through his hair.
edmund doesn't love snow anymore.

Why I cuss (affectionately) at my deities, sometimes, and why it's important to me
I'm having some feelings tonight, so here have another "Frog is rambling again" post. This one's about Loki, because they seem intent on speedrunning teaching me shit. Seriously it's been like three weeks.
I wasn't prepared for what working with Loki actually looks like. /pos
Because what that actually looks like, apparently, is sitting watching a comedy anime and getting the distinct vibe that it has a sense of humor that Loki enjoys. And then realizing that's because Loki is actively hanging around... watching fuckin' anime with me. Why the hell would Loki want to watch a dumb comedy anime with the funny little guy he works with?
Seeing a post about watching comedy as a devotional act to Loki later felt intentional, so I ended up deciding to do just that.
Thing is, I grew up exposed to the idea that God is an all-powerful being who deserves nothing less than the best and humans are the scum of the earth. I'm only now seeing that it's been damaging my relationship with my deities. I'm afraid to just chat with them 'too casually.' I apologize if I feel like I said something that's too disrespectful. I've apologized to Loki multiple times because he pulled some shit and my response was "god damnit Loki" or "you motherfucker."
And then they remind me that I call my mom the same thing, and she laughs. It's the same with my friends. All because it's not insulting, or disrespectful, it's a sign of affection. I would never say that and mean it; they know that, so it's funny. It's playful.
Amongst many other things, Loki is teaching me that joy is to be valued. This world tells us that it's dumb, childish, or any other assortment of negative descriptors- and that it has no place in spirituality. Certainly no place in the presence of a god- and that's fucking sad. I think Loki is sad about it too. I think Loki's fucking pissed, actually. How dare we be made to feel shame for what makes us happy. The gods deserve to partake in our joy and our fun just as much as they deserve to be part of our sorrow and fear.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm starting to think that hanging out with some fucker who's scrolling through memes and blasting music might just be a nice change of pace for them.

i read princess floralinda and the 40 flight tower : first off FUCK THE TUMBLR POST that made me mistakenly believe this book had cannibalism in it. i am mournful to say that it did not.
despite this i enjoyed it a stupid amount and i think its a very entertaining read, especially if you share tazs sense of humor or like the variation in narrative styles throughout tlt. actually i think reading this book made me realize more why she wrote gtn and htn all [gestures] like that... tlt definitely has a larger number of memes but the way princess floralinda is written reminds me a lot of the original character-based humor you can see in gideons speech and just the general situational hilarity of things. i also think her take on a princess story is really delightful and sweet! and i didnt expect that amorphous, ambiguous kind of romance in it. its also very much like tlt in the manner that love is slowly present between the cracks in the story, but with tlt love IS the point of everything while in floralinda the love is a sickly ironic kind of development. it was like if stockholm syndrome was entertaining. A+.
i would recommend this mainly if you 1) liked mercymorn in htn 2) appreciate a good character development coming from a dumb princess, and 3) again, share that similar sense of horrific fucking humor taz has:

The covers of the new edition of T.P. Bon being released next month are just so, so, so cute; I love the colors and the simple design and of course I love the characters, particularly vol 2 with Ream and Buyoyon in pink. Normally I'd just pick them up along with other things I'm getting from Japan, but they're also promising ANOTHER deluxe edition release in July so I won't be able to decide which edition to pick up until then =_= I haven't even gotten my hands on the sf short stories deluxe editions yet, all ten volumes are on a ship somewhere in the South China Sea probably.
Bon is getting a Netflix anime treatment sometime this year (hence the new manga releases). It's a sci-fi series about teen time travel agents saving the lives of ordinary people throughout history. I don't normally watch anime but I'll probably check it out; if it's anything like the manga it'll be a solid series with really good historical research, fun time travel shenanigans, and a lot of moral quandaries about human lives. Maybe if this does well for Netflix they'll do Mojako next...
