ok i’m talk about hen because god, i love her.

henrietta wilson and her character and storyline is very personal to me. without giving too much away about my personal life, she is very very similar to my sister. so its safe to say, she has my whole heart.

a lot of the talk (on my feed) lately around 7x04 and 7x05 has been about buck, which is fair, and you create your own feed yada yada. but i wanna talk about hen and her storyline(s) this season.

i will preface this by once again saying that hen’s character means a lot to me because she reminds me so much of my sister, so i’m going to have bias, and my view is going to be different and probably very opinionated and i’m aware of that.

we’re gonna start with the things i’m loving so far this season:

the first being that i love captain hen. it makes so much sense to me that hen would be the one to fill in for bobby (i can elaborate on that if y’all want just scream at me in my asks).

i love that we are seeing more interactions between hen and maddie. i think it’s really important that we see their relationship not only because maddie is chimney’s wife, but also because she’s buck’s sister. and hen obviously cares about the both of them so much, so to see hen interacting with the people that love the people she loves is mwuah so good!

the current henren storyline is so important. i love love love their growth as foster parents and i think mara’s story is going to be equally heartbreaking and heartwarming. i’m just excited to see how she fits into the wilson family.

now the things i’m not loving:

the fact that maddie was the one to call everyone in instead of hen. i feel like hen has never been wrong when it comes to her gut?? i can understand the fact that if she was going to get in trouble, she was just going to get herself alone in trouble, but have we not learned by now that there is strength in numbers?

the henren and mara storyline being put in 7x05. i’ve said before that 7x05 felt very rushed and i don’t like that there were three major storylines packed into one episode on top of the calls that the team goes on. in general i would’ve liked to see all the storylines in 7x05 be in their own episode with the calls instead of the chaos and the rush that is the 7x05. but the mara storyline is definitely one i’m invested in and i would love to see it handled with care and not rushed like the entirety of the latest episode was.

finally what i would like to see for hen, henren, and the wilson family in general:

i want to see more maddie and hen scenes. and more henren and madney scenes. we get a lot of emotional and hilarious screen time with chimney and hen but we don’t really see them interact with each other’s families outside of the 118. i would just love to see more of that. especially since both henren and madney have kids and i just want to see something that shows the parents of show interacting.

and to piggyback off of that, i want to see more eddie and hen!!! we don’t see much of their relationship but i think it makes sense the two would be close and hang out outside of work especially because denny and chris are close in age. once again, i just want to see the parents of the show interact more outside of calls.

now i’m gonna bring buck into this. i would love to see a scene between buck and hen regarding buck coming out. i just know would be so nurturing and supportive but also ready to tease the hell out of him especially after hearing how the first bucktommy date went.

lastly, i want to see how mara’s story plays out more than anything. it’s not going to be easy and i am so looking forward to the angst of it all but also the fluff and growth of hen’s character and the entire wilson family.

that’s majority of it (i have so many thoughts about hen, but they’re personal since she does remind me of my sister) but please feel free to come scream with me in my asks!!

Something that I think was an important aspect of the Wilson family arc last night is the emphasis on nurture over nature - and I know we all know it and talk about it and it’s fairly clear in canon, but the fact they took the trouble to have Toni explicitly say they Denny has developed similar traits and behaviours to Hen is really important.

Not only from a Buck raising Christopher perspective (which it obviously plays heavily into) but actually from a queer narrative perspective more widely - the show outright saying that a child takes after his parents, who share no dna with him, but an environment, and because of the way they were themselves and because of the way they raise him and that experience being a universal one (Hen grew up in with heterosexual parenting after all, and they’ve made a point to emphasise that she’s similar to her own father despite not knowing him and growing up in a ‘broken home’) is a really beautiful and important thing to see and it made me feel warm and fuzzy!

Wendy says when verbal communication is hard, that writing down my thoughts and giving you a letter might be easier. I kinda messed around with the idea in my head for a while before actually writing this down, because I thought it was stupid. Maybe because I thought we could just talk it out but talking actually makes me want to throw up more than the idea of being cringy on paper.

I just want to know if everything's okay with you and Mom. I don't think you realize but I can hear you arguing at night, you aren't very quiet. Ok but like… what was the point of the Nathaniel storyline in the end? Whatever hard turn they did in hiatus seems to have negated whatever lesson the were probably have Buck learn from it back when they were implying he was gonna have boundary issues. So if they weren’t going to lean into how violating it was for him to do what he did, if they just wanted to bring him back into the mix for Denny, why couldn’t they have just had him do the right thing and call Hen and Karen right away when Denny made contact? They’d have probably got the same amount of time to chew on it and wrestle with their decisions, without the show kind of washing over how horrible it was for any adult to have a secret relationship with a child? He put the responsibility for telling Hen & Karen on Denny, that’s so wrong! Denny was so certain his father would never hurt him, but fathers hurt their children all the time and how on earth are his moms supposed to know he’s safe if they don’t know where he is and who he’s with? It just feels like they started to do one thing, and when that didn’t pan out, actually did something worse.

HARD agree. I think they could have shown Denny looking into Nathaniel and maybe even scoping out his house but then had Nathaniel immediately reach out to Karen and Hen when Denny made contact. We still could have seen Denny fighting with Hen and Karen, we still could have seen the car accident even and Denny being worried about losing a man he never got the chance to know and connect with! We still could have seen Hen and Karen talking out what to do and Toni having a chat with Denny, but by just that little change of having Nathaniel reach out right away, the story changes from "bio dad as a requirement for a child (especially a boy) to know regardless of how the mom's feel about him sneaking around with their son for MONTHS" to Hen and Karen and Nathaniel navigating this choice together to expand Denny's family in a way that respects Denny's desires while also respecting Hen and Karen's family and role in their son's life.

Deathstroke kept working at the lock on the upstairs window while talking to him, calling him "Nightwings secret son" in the creepiest voice Danny has ever heard as Danny watched him from the computer monitor. This guy had been trying to break in and kidnap Danny for days but the house keeps fighting him off and Danny was on his very first stay-cation away from ghosts. He wasn't going to deal with this wierdo if he could avoid it.

He had put a lot of work into setting this up. He and Jazz had convinced thier parents to go to a two week occult conference in Fawcett City and leave Danny home alone while Jazz was off taking collage classes in Central City in hopes that it will help her get into her dream collage when she turns 18. Danny even sent Vlad on a while goose chase that sent him into the path of that trench coat guy people kept warning him about before shutting down the portals.

Danny refuses to let all of his effort go to waste and the house is pretty well defended so he decided to just use this as entertainment as he munches on dry cereal.

They didn't have any popcorn in the house and he's not leaving with captain crazy still out there.

Eventually Danny gets bored and @s Nightwing on Chirper simply telling him that Deathstroke was trying to kidnap him and it has something to do with Nightwing. He sends him a fail compilation video of all the times Deathstroke failed to get into the house and getting progressively more angry. The last video showed Deathstroke absolutely enraged.

Danny thought that Nightwing probably had a similar situation with Deathstroke that Danny himself have with Vlad and that he'd laugh and show it to all his superhero friends and they'd mock him together.

He was not expecting half of the batclan in Amity Park 3 hours later. Nor was he expecting to get kidnapped by the bats the moment he was out of the house.

He was most upset by everyone calling him a dick though. Was what he did really that bad? Talking back to adults usually didn't get him anywhere so he just kept quiet and went with them, expecting to have to give testimony to the police or something.

okay I absolutely get and adore harry being oblivious about ot3 developments, but consider:

after breanna makes it explicitly clear she’s queer in the card game job, harry starts Researching™

he’s trying to be good, be better. he likes this girl and wants to be there to support her and be her friend, someone she can trust. it doesn’t help that she’s around the same age as his daughter, who barely wants to associate with him anymore

he learns breanna is queer and dives into researching. watching TED talks in his spare time. reading ebooks on his phone in between playing roles in a con (bringing a physical book is less convenient and he doesn’t want to wave around the fact that he’s researching like he’s trying to be performative about it). he reads about legislation and book bans and wonders about how they could work their magic through a con to fix those things. he reads about asexuality and recognizes the flag colors from the sticker on breanna’s laptop, which he files away for later

he learns a lot! he has been peripherally aware of queer stuff- it’s kind of hard not to be in the 2020s, but now he is much more informed on a lot of issues. he has memorized at least 50 different labels and terms and has an index of resources in his head (and on his phone) if anyone might need them. he wants to understand the people he loves and cares about, whether it’s breanna or one of his daughter’s friends, or anyone in his life that is queer and he doesn’t know it yet. he wants to be ready and prepared to support them!

he learns about sapphicness and bisexuality and intersex rights and the gender spectrum. he learns about karyotypes and stonewall and other queer history. he learns about kink (blushing, but still reads because it’s important!) and relationship diversity… which leads him to discover the term polyamory

he tries not to actively apply the terms he has learned on the people in his life because he knows it’s wrong to assume things about other people. BUT. harry spends a few days reflecting on parker, hardison and eliot’s interactions and wonders. he thinks about the long hugs and lack of personal space and near telepathic communication not just between parker and hardison, but parker and eliot AND hardison and eliot. how parker knows how to make eliot take care of himself, how he knows when she forgets to eat because she’s so hyperfixated on planning a con. how parker jumps on his back for fun and no matter what, he always catches her. hardison’s absence is felt when he’s gone, deeply by the both of them.

it could just be a deep friendship, he knows. they have been working and living together for over a decade, of course they would be close!!! maybe they could even be queerplatonic! (another new word he learned!)

but. still. he quietly observes, watches closely, and thinks.
