9/28/23
I'm sitting in the back of my CRST truck right now listening to the snores of my co driver, Tony, below. I'm currently in Clayton Indiana at a Travel Centers of America waiting until morning when we can get our truck repaired. I had to get off the phone with my girlfriend (Ava) because she unfollowed me from TikTok. It makes me both sad and jealous to see the people she still follows. She said she stopped following me because I never look at what she sends me and she didn't want the temptation of sending me posts that I just wasn't going to look at. It makes me feel like a failure as a boyfriend. It's things like this that make me wish I could be different or that I had a little more control over my mind. It sucks because I don't realize that I'm currently messing up until I'm told I'm messing up. That clarity and drive to fix things just gets overshadowed by the fact that it's too late. Still... I did genuinely like to look at her posts and vice versa. Gonna have to work on that.
I'm about to play on my Steam Deck. Sadly, just bought Witcher 4 but I'm not feeling it as of yet. I'm sure it gets better the more you play, but... I really wanna buy Spider Man. It's just expensive and I'm not making a lot of money at the moment. Besides, I wanna save for a picnic for me and the girlfriend. I wanna see her do herself up like she did at the country concert we went to, but for me, this time. I feel like she doesn't quite feel the way she did about me when we first met, and that makes me wanna go back to experience it again. I wonder if she feels the same way. I'm always afraid she's gonna break up with me. That I'm going to somehow push her away with something about myself. Some times I think having more friends would help me be more at peace with the idea of being alone or the idea of being broken up with. I'm not sure. I definitely need more friends, though, and not her friends. That'd be pretty pathetic. I'm already trying not to look like a loser but I'm genuinely worried that I don't have that many friends and that looks bad to her. To be honest, the friends that I brag to her about aren't even that close with me. I just don't want her thinking she's dating a no life. As much as I want to change that, it seems like becoming a trucker has made making friends that much more impossible.
Well, I'll post more later. I'm getting tired. Have a good night, blog that doesn't care.
Sincerely, Jamie

To help you increase your sales, the Trucker Guide team has discovered the effective use of online resources:
Get online: Advertising, social media, blog content and a website will help your target audience learn about your business quickly.
Watch the reviews: Studies show that 70% to 90% of customers look at online reviews before making a decision. Positive reviews drive sales, while negative reviews can turn them off.
Team up with local businesses: Work on joint projects, exchange services, and use advertising to promote your business partners.
Create special offers and promotions: Invest in special offers or discounts, especially during seasonal tire changes. Sell a tire at a discount to attract more customers and boost sales.

50 Questions asks: 5, 9, 14, 28, 30, 34 ☺️🐝
Oh goodness, I am so sorry I missed this! 😫 I was scrolling pretty far down through my activity updates looking for something and I ran across your ask for the 50 questions I reblogged! I then had to scroll aalll the way down through my blog to find it and even remember what it was about. 😆 It must've been weeks ago! Thank you so much for kindly sending me an ask, I'm just so sorry I missed it the first time and hope you don't mind me answering very, very late. 😅
5. What are you looking forward to in the next week?
I have no idea what it might have been all those weeks ago, haha.... but for next week right now, I honestly don't know. Everything that's going on has jumbled up normal daily life. I know it kind of sounds sad, but I don't look forward to much, week to week. I just try to get though the day before I think about tomorrow. I was looking forward to my husband coming home for the weekend.... but times are hard right now, and it's making his job harder, and he can't. He drives a semi for a living, and I know most have a picture of the ordinary flannel-wearing Joe trucker when they think of truck drivers, but he breaks the mold and doesn't look anything like you picture. He's too thin, and too Asian. 😆 He definitely surprises people when they see him in person after they hear he's a trucker. It's a good job, and he loves seeing the country. I love going with him when I can. He only wants to do this job until we can save up enough money to move out of state, out of the city, and into a quiet place of our own in the countryside. But in the meantime, he's gone for about two weeks at a time. And sometimes schedules get messed up, like this week. He won't be home this weekend, and I probably won't be able to see him now for almost two more weeks. It's the hardest thing in the world to be away from each other for so long. Especially now, as he drives into a lot of major cities. He was so close to the rioting in Chicago. I don't want him to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and get hurt. A lot goes on in the job of a truck driver, and most don't realize the dangers they face to make sure the things we need everyday are delivered to our stores. He's made it through storms, tornados, and countless reckless drivers from coast to coast. Right now, I'm just looking forward to whenever I can have him home again, safe and sound.
9. What were you doing at 12:30 this afternoon?
That is.... a weirdly specific question. 😆 I don't pay attention to time that much, I'm too scatterbrained for that. I've been stuck at home with not much to do, so I don't have an entirely interesting life at the moment. At 12:30pm I was probably.... reading? My major hobby these days, haha.
14. Is there one person in your life that can always make you smile?
Oh yes.... and he has been for the past three years. It's difficult when he's not home.... but when he is, I'm always smiling. And when I'm tired, or having a bad day, or just sad, he always tries to put a smile back on my face. I know he'd grab my hand and take me on a walk in the evening. Or try to make me laugh at his stupid puns. But him just being here makes me smile. (You can tell I'm homesick for my husband. I'm sorry I'm making you sick. 😆)
28. What is something you want right now?
I'm going to skip the obvious and not bore you to death. Something I want right now is small and huge at the same time. I just want the outdoors again. It's not like I can't go outside, there's just nothing here. Right now, I have the smallest yard, and I can't have grass or a garden. I miss having a garden like crazy, and it's been wearing on my heart being without. We also live in the city, so there's nowhere to walk to. No paths, no trees, no nature. Endless streets and roads and cars. I want to be out of the city, I want our own land to build it up however we please, and I can have nature around me all the time. I want endless flowers and fruits and berries. My heart yearns for it so badly.
30. How is your heart lately?
Honestly, hurting. For so many who are hurting, too. For all who are struggling in so many situations brought on by the world. And a little selfishly for my own situation. I haven't been able to go to church or see my church family for three months. My only close friend moved away. Married life hasn't been what I hoped it would be with my husband gone all the time. Being forced to stay home has made it all the more lonely. The few places I enjoyed going to are no longer possible. There have been protests going on not far from where I live, and I have absolutely no problem with them, just the fear of it being taken advantage of by others who don't care for the reason behind it. So many stores near me have started to board up for fear of looters. I'm afraid for the peaceful people living around here, mostly old folks, being harmed by rioters. A couple cities around mine have declared a local emergency in light of some riots and now have a curfew. I've seen the damage of some poor folk's small businesses being torn down to nothing. It's extremely disheartening. My heart is hurting and crying, and feels too small to be able to fill the world with the love it desperately needs.
34. Have you ever wanted to tell someone something but didn't?
I definitely have, often. Usually my fears about something. Or if I knew what I was thinking would hurt someone else, or make them unhappy. I've learned to be very careful about what I say to someone, even if I really want to get it off my chest, I've learned it's sometimes better not to. I guess I live by the old adage, t.h.i.n.k. Is it true? Is it helpful? Is it inspiring? It's it necessary? Is it kind? Not that what I may want to tell someone is purposefully hurtful, I never try to think mean or cruel thoughts about another, and never ever try to speak them. But I've had experiences where I've expressed how I felt about something and it made the situation worse, or made someone upset. I think about the thing very carefully to see if it's worth saying, if I also know it may cause someone to be upset. I will admit, it's not always the right way to go about it. But I will keep a lot to myself to keep the peace, even at my own expense. It comes from years of trying to diffuse bad situations filled with anger in my home growing up. I've been drawing out of it after being in a relationship where talking it out and finding a solution is the route taken over anger and fighting.
Maybe this is why I don't get asks often! 😅 I don't just give one sentence answers, haha. I'm sorry that they're not entirely "happy" answers, I just wanted to answer them truthfully. I hope you are doing as well as you can be with all going on in our world. I hope you and your loved ones are safe. Thank you for the questions, these ask games are always fun and interesting to answer. The season in life you're in will always change the answers, happy or sad. But these ask games make tumblr feel less like shouting into the void, and that there are real people who follow each other and want to talk and get to know each other. 💝

Trucks pass from cars on the road to autonomy
Trucks pass from cars on the road to autonomy
https://theministerofcapitalism.com/blog/trucks-pass-from-cars-on-the-road-to-autonomy/
Tumblr media
But these days, trucks seem like a more attractive bet. The American Trucking Association says shippers paid $ 791 billion to move goods by truck in 2019; by contrast, Aurora estimates that the annual market for heavy-duty vehicles is $ 35 billion. Technology developers argue that if they reduce the cost of shipping, they can reduce savings. “Obviously there is a need for robotics in dense cities, but outside of dense cities, where everyone has their own car, demand needs to be created,” says Asad Hussain, who analyzes PitchBook mobility companies.
Autonomous truck manufacturers say their technology will save money for shippers. Embark claims that its automatic driving technology, which it hopes to sell to fleet operators as a subscription, will save 80 cents per mile, reducing costs compared to human driving trucks. After all, robots don’t need to pay or need breaks. They will not give up, saving labor shortages for carriers. And robots have no union. According to the companies, human drivers could continue to manage short-haul truck jobs, a more localized job that will allow them to spend more time at home instead of traveling.
The Plus company, which is testing autonomous trucks in China and the United States, says its first trucks will help human drivers do their jobs more safely and collect data as they progress. Finally, by 2024, the company hopes to put this data into practice when it removes the human being from the car. The process “will take some time,” says founder and CEO David Liu.
The union is skeptical. “Embracing technology as a kind of remedy for problems affecting the industry is unbranded,” says Sam Loesche, senior legislative and political representative for the International Teamsters Brotherhood.
Some of the recent investor enthusiasm reflects the new importance of logistics amid pandemic-related disruptions, including traffic jams in ports and the shortage of drivers they caused shipping delays. “It’s the Amazon effect, where everyone felt comfortable getting everything delivered at the click of a button,” says Jim Scheinman, managing partner of start-up venture firm Maven Ventures, which has invested in Embark.
“Embracing technology as a kind of remedy for problems affecting the industry does not have the brand.”
Sam Loesche, International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
The investor frenzy follows a series of strong partnerships between technology developers and traditional truckers and loaders. Embark works with large shippers such as HP and ABInBev, and with operators such as Werner Enterprises and Knight-Swift Transportation. TuSimple is running pilots with UPS and working on a custom-made vehicle with truck manufacturer Navistar. Aurora works with truck builders at Paccar and Volvo. All of this seems to have convinced money that self-driving is the real business.
And yet, there is still no real driverless truck, and it may never be. Self-driving trucks represent a captivating safety opportunity: truck driving is one of the deadliest jobs in the U.S., according to the Department of Labor“But an 80,000-pound missile moving at 70 mph can do a lot of damage.” Because self-driving trucks are so heavy and go faster than cars on city streets, they should be able to see farther down the road, it’s no small technical thing. So far, companies have held limited demonstrations and pilots of their technology, but they have all had safety drivers in the cab.
Unlike autonomous car companies, yes many self-imposed deadlines were missed, transport companies have not yet had so much time to fail. “Maybe when deadlines are extended or blockages occur, investors will say,‘ Oh, how come it’s not delivered? Why aren’t you on your way? ”Says Bruno Bowden, an engineer who worked for Aurora and is now an angel investor. (He has a stake in Aurora.) Technology is getting smarter: one day, investors might as well.
