So Fury was there in 1995, when Carol got the Tesseract back to SHIELD. He knew that his new pet, Goose, had swallowed (into a Flerken pocket dimension, which makes a whole nother brain knot) a doorway to the other end of space. He knew this because the cube had been in the possession of Scroll refugees, who'd hoped that with it, Mar Vell could make a portal to said other end of space.
Fury, whose secrets have secrets because he knows all the things, who agreed to make weapons with the damn thing SHIELD was lucky to have found "before" Hydra, didn't consider that this toy was a doorway. It took an explanation from an assassin (Barton) for Nick to underhand that said door could potentially be opened (or even just tampered with) from both sides.

Loki, sweating and looking at the tesseract: I don't need it. I don't need it. I definitely don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it.
Loki, shouts: I... NEED... IT!

I feel like it would be really funny if a marvel movie acknowledged a whole shitload of very old dead human corpses in the depths of space, way far out in the middle of nowhere, because everyone hydra (or the Americans who stole their weapons) killed during the original Captain America movie were actually teleported out to the void of space without them realizing it, because that energy was from the Tesseract. You shoot it at someone and they are vaporized and you go "oh! It's so much power!" But really it's a teleporter. Hundreds or even thousands of dead guys floating out in the void in a ball.

Loki and the tesseract have a connection. It's probably not healthy.
Loki was living it up as Odin, certain that nothing he could do would stop Thanos, but unable to ignore his impending doom. Since all the good plans failed as soon as he tried to put them into motion, he is willing to gamble on a bad plan. It seemed like a dead-end until Loki was pulled from sleep by the vision of a bloody battle between the Ironman Stark and The American Captain.
Ever the opportunist and desperate for even a tiny spark of hope, he nearly kills Tony Stark in an effort to remake him in his own image.
---
Exerpt:
In a few hours Stark would wake. Loki would bear his soul, no matter how painful, because anything less would get called out as a lie of omission and the choice was already made: Loki was fully invested in this plan, and any back-up plans would have to yield to this course of action or be discarded. It wasn't a good plan, but it was the best of the worst and that was where Loki's creativity had never failed. It is what saved their skins a thousand times after Thor had picked a bigger fight than the six of them could handle. When he had told the other man about Thanos, the Infinity Stones, and exactly how fucked they all were; he would let the man loose in the library with a stack of blank books and a fully charged Staff of Duplication to copy whatever he damn well pleased. Well, anything not in the private collections. The aim was for technology and not politics, esoteric magics, or forbidden history after all. Then, Loki would send the God of Artifice back to Midgard and ensure he received whatever materials he required. Stark could pretend to need time to heal from his injuries and spend it studying.

not to talk about Star Wars on main and I'd fight Dave Filoni in a Waffle House parking lot as much as the next burned out former Star Wars fan, but also it is so funny to me when people blame Dave for stuff in TCW that comes directly from George Lucas. Ahsoka being Anakin's padawan was George Lucas's decision, not Dave Filoni's.
Tumblr media
from The Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which I realize has been out of print for a good long while now.
text: A teenage Togruta Padawan, Ahsoka Tano was a completely new character. "Ahsoka came out of an earlier idea for the series when I didn't think we were going to have Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in it," says Filoni. "Henry [Gilroy] and I came up with a concept about two Jedi, a Master and a Padawan, assigned to the black market."
Though they jettisoned the concept once Lucas made it clear that the series would feature Skywalker and Kenobi, Gilroy and Filoni stuck with the idea of a girl Padawan. "Dave and I figured that Anakin was a Jedi Knight very early in the war, so we thought it would be interesting if we gave Obi-Wan a replacement Padawan," recalls Gilroy. "But George wanted her to be Anakin's Padawan."
"We added the idea of a Padawan so that we wouldn't be stuck in the same relationship dynamic between Anakin and Obi-Wan," says Lucas. "This is a way of explaining Anakin's rise to being a full-fledged Jedi, and at the same time the growing relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan as friends, as equals. In order to do that, we needed someone to take on the role of the younger person who is being taught in these stories."
"We were as surprised as anyone that Anakin had a Padawan," laughs Filoni, who got the task of figuring out how to work a major new character into the Star Wars saga. Filoni and Gilroy developed her character as a mix between Anakin's brashness and Obi-Wan's measured judgment, reflecting the shift between the Republic and the oncoming Empire.
"Anakin is in favor of a stricter type of government. Obi-Wan represents the Old Republic," explains Filoni. "Ahsoka's in between them, looking back at what was, looking forward to what might be."
