Fooduary Day 28: Cannoli

The history of the cannoli is an interesting one, which is why I did it anyway despite not being really confident about my design. Not my best idea? Maybe, so take this design with a healthy serving of salt it’s based more on Byzantine style art than more specific location examples because I could only find a handful of illustrations of men which wasn’t the most helpful. Allegedly the cannoli was invented around 827-1091 Sicily. At this time it was the Emirate of Sicily, so I could only really find a few photos of figures from this period from the ceiling of Cappella Palatina in Palermo that were even close to the place+era I was looking for. The Fatimid Caliphate decorated Sicily mostly with script and zoomorphic designs so it’s only really this chapel that had preserved figures illustrated at all. So she kind of has a powdered sugar mother Mary look going on…

I have a feeling that Sanji and Zoro’s death pact will be properly resolved in Elbaf, as it certainly doesn’t feel like we’re done with it. And while Elbaf is gearing up to be very Usopp-centric (and I can not overstate how hyped I am to see him take the spotlight again, finally), let’s not forget that this all ties back to Little Garden, the arc that properly introduced Zoro and Sanji’s rivalry by paralleling them with two rival giants who fought each other every day for over a century, but who also lost themselves in their grief when one thought the other death. The parallel isn’t even subtle, Little Garden’s biggest landmarks are the remnants of Dorry and Brogy’s dinosaur hunting competition. You know. The very same competition Zoro and Sanji posed to each other at the start of the arc?

But here’s the thing. I’m a little worried about how it’s going to be resolved. Because. Despite how readily Zoro agreed to kill Sanji if need be, he must have known that the crew would never forgive him. Zoro is Luffy’s specialest guy but Luffy would not accept any excuse as to why Sanji had to die. Nor anyone else in the crew. But. Does Sanji realize that?

Does he know that killing him would literally be the hardest thing Zoro would ever do, because it would mean literally betraying his Captain and crew? Luffy said he can’t become Pirate King without Sanji, and Zoro and Luffy swore they’d commit fucking ritualistic suicide if they got in the way of each other’s dreams, so does Sanji know where that would leave the swordsman in this case? With no Captain, no crew, and yet another dead rival and best friend (who, mind you, began to live in fear of his own biology betraying him right before dying. but the parallels between Kuina and Sanji and how they relate to Zoro could be a long ass post for another day).

I think he doesn’t know. But he can’t find out how Zoro would mourn him unless the pact actually follows through. But still, I don’t think Oda would kill Sanji, cause that’s no way to resolve this issue. So here’s my speculation about how I think it could potentially play out, following that initial line of thinking of the death pact’s resolution being set in Elbaf, specifically because of Sanji and Zoro’s parallels to Dorry and Brogy.

Like Brogy, Zoro would have to believe that he killed Sanji. That he won their final duel. He’d have to believe that Sanji has fallen and, also like Brogy, have to face that grief and hurt all alone. But in the end, like Dorry, Sanji would survive, having never actually been hurt. Because their edges have dulled after fighting for so long, no longer as capable of landing killing blows as they thought. “Not even the blades of Elbaf could endure two giants fighting for 100 years”? Something of the sort. And maybe this line of speculation is simplistic or optimistic, but the chances of it playing out like this aren’t zero, so just in case, I would want to be able to say that I called it.

Infighting at that stage would feel distracting? Melodramatic? #Zoro’s also not gonna finish fighting Mihawk and then go fight Sanji like it’s items on a murder grocery list #specially because it feels weird to place his showdown with his current friend-rival AFTER fulfilling his promise to Kuina? And not before? #like idk idk Oda is very meticulous about fitting all his plotlines together I’m sure he’ll know what to do better than me #but uh. “Are you going to do something or what?” Draco asks, his voice cracking embarrassingly on the do.

Potter is sprawled out on the carpet as if he’s been taken out at the knees, which to be fair, Draco thinks smugly, he sort of was. Potter's shirt is rucked up under his armpits, his jeans are tangled around his knees, his spent cock resting on his thigh. His hair’s a disaster, his chest is heaving. He looks as if he’s been ransacked.

He looks ridiculous, Draco thinks. Come-dumb and stupid. Draco can’t even look at him. 

He may never look away.

Drabble prompt 11 "Don't you dare"

The mess hall was buzzing with lively conversations.

After a hard day of training, running in the mud & trying not to lose grip on the swords hilts, hands becoming slippery as the rain poured down heavier & heavier, the warm comfort of a full bowl of aromatic stew was most welcome.

Most Scouts were exhausted & you were no exception. Freshly bathed, water was still dripping from your damp hair on your neat, comfy clothes. Your limbs were sore & your back hurt so much that you had had a hard time walking all the way from the bathroom.

Spoon & empty bowl in hand, you looked around the room for a free seat. But the whole canteen was so crowded that you finally gave up your search with a heavy, tired sigh.

As you turned to go back to your dorm, a gentle but firm grip around your wrist made you stop. A quick glance over your shoulder was enough to see that your Captain would not let you go away without an explanation.

"The fuck you're doing, soldier?" Levi asked in a deep voice, his eyebrows knitted in a worried frown. "You're supposed to eat something warm & sustaining to recover from today's training."

He released the pressure of his grip on your wrist only to slide his hand up your arm & gently squeeze it in an encouraging gesture, dragging you along to the nearest table.

"Move your stinky ass over!" he ordered, casting a cold glare at a new recruit, startling the hell out of him. 

The soldier's attempt to protest was quickly nipped in the bud by a harsh warning.

"Don't you dare!" Levi uttered in a hoarse voice, leaning towards the young man until their foreheads were almost touching.

The soldier averted his gaze, beads of cold sweat instantly running down his temple, his face turning pale with dread.

"Please Levi, stop it, this is embarrassing!" you muttered under your breath. "I don't need any special treatment after all."

"Stop saying this kind of shit right now! You're exhausted, you're starving, you need to sit down & eat a proper meal as much as this average guy!"

Levi firmly made you sit down & ladled some hot stew into the bowl before handing it over to you. His hand squeezing your shoulder as you finally grabbed your spoon, he leaned down to reach your ear.

"I know you're exhausted" he whispered. "Come to my office with two cups of tea when you're done, I'll help you get rid of the pain."

As he headed out of the mess hall towards his quarters, you couldn't hold back a soft smile at the idea of the Captain taking care of you all night long.

we have our second sim with amazing compatibility!! ivor was so delightfully charming: being a socially awkward sim, i didn't expect him to get flirty, but he did! (of course, he slipped right into a tense moodlet from having gotten flirty at all right after, kfdj) being that ivor and dan talked for a good while and had plenty to say to one another - i swear, a cow or a llama popped up in every other speech bubble!

and with that, we have our final post of the day and our final member of house two!! we have seven more sims to meet, and then? we really get in to this challenge as a whole! thanks for sticking along for the ride, dear viewers~

Towards the end of winter, a letter arrived at the Mosley residence. Lucy, seeking any excitement, fished it out of the mailbox to read. It smelt of expensive french perfume and was decorated prettily like chinaware with oriental drawings of birds and flowers. It held in it an invite to a ball!

Lucy was elated. There was finally something to do and hopefully she could meet other young ladies her age. To express her gratitude (and skip needlework that afternoon) she insisted on visiting the senders, which Uncle Clarence agreed to though he made her bring Nellie along.

When Lucy and Nellie arrived at the impressive residence, the Abellard sisters, Adrienne and Isabelle invited them in for tea. Lucy couldn't stop staring at all the impressive sculptures and pictures- it felt like she had been transported to a whole new world. She knew there and then that she wanted a life just like this and she'd do anything to get it.

The Pilgrimage of the Sacred and Profane; Jujutsu Kaisen Verse

"What a terrible night to have a curse. And I've been this way since birth."

D is a descendant of an ancient cursed bloodline spawning from Vladislav Dracul the Third, infamously known as Vlad Tepes (AKA Vlad the Impaler) in human life; And would later be reborn and known throughout the world as Dracula...the first vampire!

It was rumored that the House of Drăculești (Vlad's and D's family line) dabbled in dark magics through the Order of the Dragon and during his reign, Vladislav participated in the order. At the end of his reign and war with the Ottomans, Vlad cursed himself and God before dying while drinking the blood of fallen enemies on the battlefield. This act of sacrilege would turn his body and soul into something beyond a cursed spirit. Even in Death, he would live again!

Fast forward to London England in 1893-1897, Dracula encounters Mina Harker, the woman who would go on to birth D. The first hybrid child--an unholy spawn of human and vampire (curse). Though Dracula would seemingly be defeated by Van Helsing and Quincy Harker, the vampire king made sure his curse would live on through his son--as he infected Mina with his blood while she was pregnant during those events involving Dracula.

In Present-day D is a powerful century-old sorcerer, Neither human nor cursed spirit. An anomaly to all those who meet him. He is classified as a special-grade entity of cataclysmic proportions--a would-be threat to all humanity by his sheer existence. Much like his father who he learns is still ALIVE. But worry not, D does not share the same machinations of his tyrannical father, for he is here to put a stop to his reign permanently. And he will cut through as many cursed spirits in his way to get to him to see his mission through.

D's curse(d condition) grants him all the powers of a vampire from myth and legend. This ranges from immortality, eternal youth, Supernatural strength/ durability/ agility/ speed/ senses /aura and condition, regeneration, blood manipulation, darkness manipulation, mimicry, channeling the dead, Reality and Time Altering, Self-resurrection, Precognition (access to the Akashic records), telepathy, and telekinesis.

One of D's innate techniques is called Unholy Blood. Spawning from the damned bloodline of Dracula, D can infect and turn any living entity into a creature of the night like himself through a blood-sharing ritual via biting his target. His cursed ability acts like an infection and can override a person's will, making them thralls he can control like puppets. There are levels to his thrall ability from making them mindless puppets (ghouls) to full-fledged vampires like himself under his power.

He can manipulate their memories, thoughts, and actions through his blood, forcing them to do his bidding. Even control the very blood inside of each and every thrall. His thralls will have absolute devotion to him and him alone.

But the most terrifying part of his ability is that by consuming blood, whether human or curse (Or drinking his own blood) his power will grow. The stronger the entity D drinks from, the more power he gains. Another application of his Unholy Blood ability is that he can use his blood as a weapon much like the Kamo clan through the creation of weapons and force fields using blood as an intermediary. But due to D's supernatural condition, D can manipulate anything his blood touches and use his blood as a deadly poison. More disturbing applications of unholy blood is that D can ignite his blood, causing his target to burst into flame should they touch it. Or even detonate his blood like a bomb.

The second innate technique is called Endless Darkness. This ability allows the dhampir to control the very dark itself. From very shadow to the expanse of the night sky itself. Applications of this ability can range from combat to stealth, to surveillance. He can turn his entire body into living darkness itself and even possess the shadows of others. Making shadow puppets of his enemies.

However, D isn't entirely invincible, for there are weaknesses that come from the vampiric curse. Sensitivity to the sunlight is one such weakness--too much exposure to the sun will cause the hybrid to become afflicted with a heat syndrome (also known as sunstroke). During his episodes, D will experience nausea, dizziness, and eventual paralysis until he passes out. To combat the illness he needs to bury himself in the ground in a dark area to recover and regain his strength.

Another weakness is bloodlust. Going long periods without feasting on blood can make D succumb to his darker impulses and become feral. Entering into a berserker-like state changing from Dhampir to a full-fledged vampire and attacking ally and foe in his proximity.

A more peculiar note about the hybrid is that he has a sentient symbiotic cursed parasite on his left hand that can absorb cursed energy, spirits, and even entire Domains. The parasite can also aid him in self-healing and resurrection.
