many thanks to @vvaterling for the tag, appreciate it
Last songs I listened to: 'the creator has a masterplan' by pharoah sanders, 'arab voice of freedom (live)' by fairuz, 'kwanzaa' by karma and 'weight of the word' by MIKE
Currently watching: mandabi by ousmane sembène (super stressful watch as unc gets taken by the triple threat of colonialism, corruption and a community of vultures) sankofa by haile gerima (one the best time travel movies of all time, with arguably the most cathartic slave uprising commited to film, another gerima masterpiece that burns all the exploitative, liberal-fascist, cash-grab, trauma porn slave narratives to dust) burning an illusion by menelik shabazz, the empire strikes back 4K80 (all these 'resistance' movies owe haiti, algeria and vietnam, a big phat cheque) love is blind (ngl after mandabi i needed thissss lol, so much mess this season) as above so below by larry clark (has some of the fiercest close ups of all the la rebellion films) little forest: winter/spring (a beautiful, seasonal series of movies, focused on cooking in a small village in Japan and the relationship between a daughter and her mother who has abandoned her, it's like a slow burn cooking show slash japanese art house movie series (it's 4 movies in total) about the poetic changing of seasons...it really makes you think about how limited western filmmaking/storytelling is and in it's own way asks the eternal question: what is cinema?) spirited away by miyazaki (i kinda hate sharp images at the mo, BUT reluctantly getting a 4k cut made from an 8k upscale, had me marvelling at every single frame and brushstroke and now im bopping thru the streets to joe hisaishi's score like a joker, but u know idgaffffffff this movie is an absolute masterpiece and it ain't up for discussion my dears lol) the muslim mindset and islam’s mission with dr sohail hanif and ig stories from: bisan, motaz, hindkhoudary, warsanshiree, saul williams, red_maat, bsonblast, amandaseales, oaklandmademe, thezaynalarbii and yasinbey...
Currently reading: ousmane sembène interviews, the quran, art on my mind by bell hooks, ming smith aperture monograph, domu: the dreams of children by katshuhiro otomo, the sound i saw by roy decarava, instant light (polaroids) by andrei tarkovsky, maafa by harmony holiday, the book of light by lucile clifton and suheir hammad's gaza suite. dipping in and out of all of the above...
Sweet/savory/spicy: all three, but right now, korean spicy chicken is what i dream of...
Relationship status: single...praying she loves god...............................and korean spicy chicken..............
Current obsession: shooting with my new camera, lenses lenses lenses, colour grading on davinci, preparing for shoots at the end of the month, inshallah...roy decarava's photography and his use of shadow, darkness and light, ming smith's photography and her use of blurrrr, darkness and focus, summerdanceforver dance-off videos (i miss paradiso) new balance 9060's and salehe bembury's designs and interviews especially his peace be the journey sneakers, hiking, harmony holiday on twitter (unmatched raps with a razor under tongue!) hiroshi yoshimura - copped the vinyl represses of green and surround, which im super grateful for, totally obsessed with green: ethereal and expansive movements through nature, basking in healing frequencies. local reggae community radio station run by elders in north london, always vibrant, shaggy and aggy. talking, arguing, listening, LEARNING, UNLEARNING, loving and meditating on how to decolonise everything, liberation and how we get free...free palestine congo sudan and stopppp cop city...steamed buns from bun house, writing and shooting (jill scott voice: slowly surely) and last and certainly notttttt least, getting closer to god...
Last search: flights to jamaica... (get me outta babylon fam)
Currently working on: beating burnout and the resulting procrastination to finish my new movie inshallah...preparing for shoots at the end of the month inshallah...
now i tag: @humbleseed @kndmind @ritasdove @ahla-tahiya @komplikacije @wrathdiwata @earthgoddessmusings @elea-mar @mosterriblewoman @thacryingame @besarelcielo @universalstudent @jamiefoxxhairline @therootednomad @0912199 @afeelingindescribable @sbtravie @artemisiasea @macaroot @textualtrancetextural @143-4u @afroladina @chaosteorema @rose1water @coyotelo @godzilla-en-mexico @esdr0 @gullyrootoranamu @guwop07 @bohemialatina @emekkka

i'm writing a recap for posterity bc this was my last harry show for who knows how long and i wanna remember every detail forever.
werchter is so close to where i live, just 15 km, and it's a legendary festival over here. so harry playing at that location is already so fucking cool to me. to then have friends from abroad come join me for the show there, my last ticket to love on tour, is just chef's kiss too perfect. the sun was shining so bright, we found a perfect spot on the grass, there was even the slightest breeze, we had a picnic blanket, we had diced watermelon, we had drinks, we surrounded ourselves with rainbows, it was fucking blissful. i had chills from how happy i was, despite the fucked up heat, and that was before the show even started.
Tumblr media
we were def in a far corner of the crowd, removed from other heavy fans ig, so when we were showing energy and love for wet leg we were on a bit of an island, and that vibe stretched on into the rest of the show ngl. we were a group of four intensely dancing bopping singing waving maniacs surrounded by very subtly enjoying crowd members, but i'd like to think we brought up their energy yk. i am def one of those people that just dances and jumps and does not stop dancing and jumping until the last fucking kiwi note is sounded and i love feeling the sweat stream off my body and feel like i've run a marathon and like i can't possibly jump any more and then i fucking do.
there's something magical about being among people that bring that same energy, bc just being in that bubble, singing along with harry, giving it our all, and having the space to run around on that festival field, had me having goosebumps on and off all night. during satellite @bluewinnerangel and i just ran around like maniacs in the empty space where no one was standing with our flags just twirling and bumping and falling and. then we did it all over again during tpwk maybe even harder like i remember panting and catching my breath but just going going going getting fucking dizzy.
Tumblr media
and then, during fine line, ofc the crowd around us did not care. no one knows that song, and that's a shame, but it's fine, i'll take that moment for myself anyway. at first i thought i wasn't going to be able to get into it bc of the talking and people around us just suddenly being loud, but it's almost as if that made it even more intense for me. the way that song is so intimate. and then the gp just doesn't give a shit. that physical manifestation around me had me so sucked in by harry that i didn't even hear the crowd anymore after a while. once again i was just singing along with harry singing fine line, right there in front of me, tears streaming down my face. the full moment of it all hit me hard. bc. being so free to move and show my love like that, in a crowd that isn't necessarily on the same wavelength, is a very new thing for me. that i simply do not care that the ppl think my moves are dorky and my energy is too much and my enthusiasm is too loud. so to then hear harry scream we'll be alright. like. yeah. we will be. we are.
the sun was setting, the sky was mesmerizing, and harry waited just long enough to let all of that simmer. before sott, before going into the mania that is as it was and kiwi, he waited just the right amount of time for us to gather our wits, wipe our eyes, and get ready to fucking send it one last time. and we fucking did. you know you've done well when you're dizzy from headbanging so hard and your abs are cramping from the absolute stomping we did.
Tumblr media
then we lay down on the ground and nothing in the entire universe mattered beyond us being there at that moment. holy shit it was special. i love you @bluewinnerangel i love you @swimmingleo i love you @emsfinewalls. so lucky to have been there with you. thank you for everything

Starkid Innit Setlist Discussion (starship)
Just realised I am very behind on this and need to get a shift on if I actually want to finish this before the concert oops
However it is finally time to discuss starship (my beloved)
Here's the discussions on songs from:
avpm
mamd
avps
What would be your absolute top choice 'it probably won't happen but I will go feral if they perform this' song?
Status Quo (harmonies version). The space tour and homecoming versions of this song are INCREDIBLE and I think I would genuinely start crying if they sang this
Also major props to the person on twitter posting everyday about adding this to the setlist, you're doing dead god's work 🫡
2. What would be your realistic top choice? Like you'd love to see this song AND you think they might actually perform it?
Realistic top choice is literally a n y t h i n g from this show
I would honestly love to see any song from starship. Kick it up a notch? certified bop. The way I do? Adorable. Get back up? Was my alarm clock for a good few years. I wanna be? There was a time in my life when I could recite the entire first 10 minutes of starship including all the dialogue.
All that to say I'm a starship stan through and through and will take whatever scraps they deign to throw at me
3. Which songs from starship do you think will actually make it on the setlist
Ngl lads with no Dylan I have a real fear that we're not getting any songs from starship
I am pinning all my hopes on the fact that bug world was mentioned in the announcement post, in which case I'd probably guess they'd perform status quo or a shortened version of I wanna be.... or maybe a cover of beauty?
I guess time will tell but if we could all put some positive energy out into the universe that would be great

i can't think properly or i'd do it all myself but
taylor swift (debut) album as tlh characters. welcome to do it incompletely and i'll collab i got stuck at tim mcgraw so
also yes or no is cold as you thomas when he's mad at alastair, a mix of that cog-coi gap and academy conflicted emotions? and teardrops on my guitar is his admiration from a distance while alastair's with charles. the outside is alastair's pov
iomwiwy is gracetopher. mary's song is jordelia. and invisible is cordelia @ james and grace in cog.
agree or disagree i don't mind just keen to hear what you think!
OKAY SO here are my takes:
Tim McGraw: Matthew to Cordelia at the end of the series, ngl. Like, yeah, the love is lost now, but it was something and he hopes she thinks of him sometimes and what they shared in Paris.
Picture to Burn: Thomas at Alastair after Chain of Gold. "Coming back around here would be bad for your health" has the same vibes as "I'll chuck you in the Thames if you talk to me again."
Teardrops on My Guitar: Academy Thomas to Academy Alastair for SURE but yes, also Thomas to Alastair when he's with Charles. Like, "he's the song in the car I keep singing? don't know why I do?" Yes. Yes yes yes. Also, THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME WISHIN' ON A WISHING STAR? Kill me dead you're so right
A Place in This World: This might be controversial but lowkey Ari? She feels a little lost and is trying to find her place in the world and I love her.
Cold as You: Yes, once again, Thomas to Alastair after Chain of Gold. Filled with conflicted emotions, you're so incredibly right.
The Outside: Has been on my Alastair playlist since Day One for obvious reasons. I absolutely adore this song for him like "how can I ever try to be better? Nobody ever lets me in" literally something he says in period-typical terms in Chain of Iron. Also in the Letter Game. And he's right! He's the best!
Tied Together With a Smile: Matthew. I don't even feel like I need to explain this. He cries but doesn't tell anyone that he might not be the golden one? He's tied together with a smile but he's coming undone? Yes. That's all there is
Stay Beautiful: Thomas to Alastair. Like he thinks he is so beautiful and hopes that life leads him back to his front door! He is waxing poetic about his eyes (like petals of a flower, not the jungle, but still!) Idk 100% see this, but also could be Alastair to Thomas too he also finds him beautiful I wish we got more of his PoVs :')
Should've Said No: I'm going to say maybe Cordelia @ both James and Matthew after Paris, lol. They should both indeed be begging for forgiveness at her feet. (I'm kidding, mostly).
Mary's Song: Yeah, unfortunately Jordelia. But, since I love this song, Thomastair too. "Said you'd beat me up you were bigger than me, you never did." Kind of a stretch but I don't want to think about James/Jordelia every time I hear it LOL
Our Song: OKAY LOWKEY GHOSTWRITER Because like. They're sneaking out and tapping on each other's window? They're in that little glow of first love? Idk I really like this association and am down with it LOL
A Perfectly Good Heart: Alastair to Charles please. A precursor to him going all-out and singing "I'll Bet You Think About Me" from Red TV at Charles because Charles sucks. I love the idea of Alastair blasting Taylor's angry country bops at Charles. It cleanses my soul.
Invisible: I actually want to go with Matthew to Cordelia here ngl
I'm Only Me When I'm With You: Yes I fully agree that it's either Grace to Christopher OR Alastair to Thomas also really works for it.

Outside of the 3 original princesses, do you have any Disney favorites? By that I mean favorite character, favorite vocal performance, favorite song, favorite movie, etc? (Apologies if you have answered these questions before.)
Yes, I have many, many, many! I'll also exclude The Little Mermaid, as the original four princess movies are equally my favorite but! For more broad answers:
Favorite character: since i always talk about female characters, i'll switch it up and do a male character! hercules is my entire heart
Favorite vocal performance: again i'm going to try to say something that isn't obvious but i think 'my own home' from jungle book is captivating and kathryn beaumont is a certified genius
Favorite song: i bring you a song from bambi makes my heart smile and is the essence of romance imo
Favorite movie: hmmm i like so many like fantasia, bambi...but perhaps fun and fancy free??? ichabod toad? i really don't know, i like so many
But also, just for general appreciation:
pinocchio is a BEACON of light and so fascinating. i love the rich european setting and the original colors- especially the use of red- and the blue fairy is genuinely captivating. i love the realistic characterizations and the artistry is unsurpassed imo
fantasia's fairies might be the peak of filmmaking for me and i love the inclusion of classical music.
dumbo is so heart warming and i love the emphasis on his mother even though it makes me cry and i think pink elephants on parade is a bop and i love the way they included it in fantasmic
bambi is GENIUS, as i mentioned above i love the song so much but i really just think it's the spirit of filmmaking and is so real and authentic and i think it'll survive as a film until the end of time
fun and fancy free has really great water animation and cloud scenes in the bear segment but also mickey and the beanstalk is so much fun from start to finish
melody time has once upon a wintertime, which makes it have merit as a film, and i looove frances langford's voice
the adventures of ichabod and mr. toad gave us katrina and brom bones and FOR THAT i salute this film. i love the music and the old american town and like the halloween influence and the mansion and just. everything so much about it. it really is like feeling the crisp autumn air. i love the miniature scale homes of the animals in the toad segment- it's so comforting
alice in wonderland. just everything about it
peter pan - where do i even begin. the music is a religious experience, marc davis's work on tinker bell's walk is LEGENDARY, but also i was sooo intrigued by the mermaids and their design as a child. it's the high point of the film for me. i love love LOVE kathryn beaumont's wendy and mrs. darling is so dear
lady and the tramp is a movie that's so cozy- i absolutely love the smalltown american vibes and the moment with the spaghetti is iconic for GOOD reason
101 dalmatians deserves to exist for anita and anita alone
sword in the stone is a film i loved as a child. madam mim was fun to me and she freaks me out now, though i do love her attractive form, ngl i kinda think kay is cute, and i LOVE archimedes and merlin is a top disney character for me
the aristocats ALL the female characters <333
robin hood gave us lady kluck is one of my top ten characters of all time. she gave us everything and she has yet to receive her flowers
winnie the pooh is cute
the rescuers has such an intriguing voice in miss bianca and, again, the miniature animal homes are comforting to me. i love how underground and gritty it feels
the black cauldron is an amazing experimental film that is sooo gorgeous
beauty and the beast is worth it for me because i love mrs. potts, i love the bimbettes, i think adam is intriguing, and gaston is a fav
pocahontas has one of the best soundtracks but also can we talk about NAKOMA
hercules maybe has top 5 art but also hercules as a character is someone i love so much it makes my heart physically hurt :(
mulan- i love the connections people make with her and shang being bi is pretty much is everything
princess and the frog gave us a wonderful design for tiana

First impressions of So Much (for) Stardust
Love from the Other Side - I'm still foaming at the mouth
Heartbreak Feels So Good - Will stan forever, you'll have to rip this song from my cold, dead hands
Hold Me Like a Grudge - A bop, absolutely groovy
Fake Out - Oh this calms my soul
Heaven, Iowa - The first "scar crossed lovers" made me feel something (I heard the lyric wrong which means it's absolutely a FOB album now)
So Good Right Now - The embodiment of happy music for sad people
The Pink Seashell - ngl, I was confused at first but it goes beautifully into the next song
I Am My Own Muse - "trying to keep it together but gets harder when it never gets better" AAHHHHH
Flu Game - catchy, groovy, the snaps at the end are nice
Baby Annihilation - Pete, my baby, I missed your poems at the ends of songs
The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years) - Smooth, makes me feel smooth inside. I will not elaborate.
What a Time to Be Alive - I think this was written before 2020, but dang it hits so hard.
So Much (for) Stardust - ✨ burning ✨, something about using lyrics from other songs gives me life and this is no exception

what's your favorite Danger Days song?
love how everybody's apparently been watching me take up residence inside my Spotify account because this is the third music related ask I've gotten in 15 minutes and I am so so happy about that ngl
anyway it's probably gotta be Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back because GET OFF THAT LEDGE AND DROP THAT KNIFE YOU'RE NOT A VICTIM OF THE VICTIM'S LIFE THIS AIN'T A ROOM FULL OF SUICIDES WE'RE BELIEVERS WE BELIEVE TONIGHT!!!!!!
OR Party Poison tbh but that one is slightly rougher skskdkfnskgn it's SO fascinating within the narrative of the album though and also it's a bop. a banger. you might have seen me and Gracie yelling about it the other night skskfndns it's kinda underrated in the grand scheme of things but I am absolutely willing to be this song's cheering squad

ngl it's kind of funny seeing you go from 'what is eurovision i have no idea what's going on' to 'la zarra 🥵🥵🥵 EDGAR ALLEN POE' in like 3 days 😭😭😭 which were ur fav songs this year??
LMAOOO read me to filth i think in germany it's like i only ever hear about it bc we do shit so im like whatever but then bc tumblr was going crazy so i wanted to be in the loop. so i checked some out and... there were bangers. and the bangers did not leave my head
i think österreich (absolute banger and bop) was my fave, along with finland france, and czechia were top. cha cha cha reminds me of electric callboy a german group a lot

please take the boygroup sorter on biasorter.tumblr.com and post ur results, i'm so curious
bah, your wish is my command: lets get to it i would also like to add that these results are PURELY based off of how much of their music i listen to, i can't name a single person in half the groups here lmao
stray kids is anyone really surprised?? im not
bts same with this one, very much expected
seventeen also very predicted
the rose this surprised me a little bit ngl, but when i look over my playlists it checks out
shinwha i did NOT see this coming wth
shinee my guess was that shinee came over shinwha but here we are
block b i used to be a HARDCORE BBC but fell out of it almost as fast as i got into it and i have no idea why
winner they have some good party bops, but i don't listen to a lot of their slower songs
got7 same as block b, i was a massive fan few years ago, but now i barely listen to them?? i listen to jackson's songs a bit and im super excited for their comeback coming up!!
super junior y'all, their early music is my SHIT- nothing gets me going quite like some early 2000's bops
astro i haven't really kept up with them, but every now and then a song of theirs is reccomended either on tiktok or on spotify and i add it to my playlists
ateez i'm not gonna lie, they have some great tracks, but im deadass scared to get into them. they are intimidating as fUCK
nu'est i was a fairly big fan of them a while back, and it was mainly because of minhyun i watched produce 101 season 2 :)
pentagon their songs give me such summer-vibes, so whenever i need me a good pick me up, i blast their music and pretend its mid-july lmao
24k i listen to only a handful of their songs, but the few songs i listen to, i listen to like all the time hehehe
wanna one i was SUCH a big fan when they were promoting, and it absolutely shattered my heart when they 'disbanded', but its like they say, all good things come to an end :(
day6 they give me a sense of home when i listen to them, but i haven't been supporting them a lot as of recent
infinite there was a solid two month period in like 2016 where i would pretty much give my life for these men, but one day i just forgot they existed, so if i put my music on shuffle and their songs come on, i look like thats so raven, just zooming to a different point in time- its weird
ikon i never really informed myself on what happened with them and b.i. which is 100% my own fault, but ever since the incident i haven't listened to them. idk, it wasn't really on purpouse.
b.a.p i only listen to them during VERY special occasions. when me and my hometown friend are out driving at night during the summer, we always blast their music, it's become tradition by now
the link for the sorter here! let me know if our results are similar!!

ESC 2023 pre-rehearsals top 37
Places 10-1
10. Croatia: I know this is very unpopular, but I give absolutely zero shits about that. I adore this song with my whole being- I just love these sort of weird political satire songs, when they’re done well. This reminds me a lot of In Corpore Sano or Hatrid Mun Sigra, a couple of my favourites. When I first heard it, listening to the Dora song, I was HYSTERICAL. It sounded so random and ridiculous. I found myself singing it more and more, craving listening to it and bopping to it. It became my favourite and when it won I was SO EXCITED. I was not expecting it at all. Another unpopular opinion, but I love their live performances- they’re of course absurd, but I realise they do it for shock purposes and honestly they’re so hysterical they just have me rolling on the floor lol. Again, I am a huge fan of joke entries WHEN THEY’RE DONE WELL, and I think this song has a brilliant structure. The lyrics are also of huge complexity. Hope others recognise this genius in Liverpool!
9. Norway: the fact that Ulrikke was my favourite and I really wanted her to win MGP but then Alessandra’s final performance was SO GOOD that I decided last minute to vote for her instead just says a lot. This girl is absolutely on fire- she is one of the most charismatic and energetic performers I have ever seen, and her vocals are insane. I am obsessed with the fact that she is singing such a modern sounding song with classical technique. I love the intro in Italian and Latin, the whole song sounds so epic and the lyrics are also very vivid and poetic. It’s just ajdoiahoahochaocjoa so insane.
8. Serbia: KONSTRAKTA’S WORTHY SUCCESSOR! Serbia proving once again why they’re one of my favourite Eurovision countries. The fact that Luke wrote this song entirely himself- music and lyrics and all- just proves how insanely talented this man is. His performance abilities are also insane. The song is a bit cacophonous, so even though I can tolerate it because that’s the whole point that’s why it’s a little lower than it could be- while it’s genius and I love it, it can be a little hard to listen to. But do we want to talk about the lyrics? They are some of the most genius lyrics I have ever heard in my entire life- on the same level of In Corpore Sano, if not even better! Something that I find brilliant is the English-Serbian alternation- the lyrics in English present all of the elements characterizing the song, and the Serbian lyrics delve deeper into them, so that you can understand what the song is about even without knowing Serbian, but you have to check them out too to truly understand it. The way the different themes and symbols intertwine and interact is also of insane complexity.
7. Czech Republic: this is the best entry Czechia has ever sent. Genuinely speechless they could do something like this all this time and just settled for mediocrity? Mad too ngl. Unfortunately their live performances drag this down, but the song in itself is brilliant. I love the alternation of the four languages, the symbolism behind their use and the dynamism that comes from it. The structure is absolutely brilliant, everything about it- the intro in Czech, the verses and pre-chorus in English, the chorus in Ukrainian, the rap in Bulgarian, the bridge aaaah. And the lyrics are also beautiful with a great message. So epic and so catchy, hope they give a better performance than usual at ESC because the song itself deserves to get Czechia’s best result.
6. Estonia: this is giving me huge North Macedonia 2019 vibes, and it’s one of my favourite ESC songs ever. This song is genuinely so stunning, just a masterpiece, and so so underrated. Alika is an absolutely beautiful performer- her voice is so rich and beautifully controlled, and she also has such a stunning way of conveying the emotions of the song on stage and dragging the viewer in. It is very theatrical and as a theater kid I love it lol. It is beautifully structured, I love the way it grows gradually, and it’s just so dark and rich in emotion. So so stunning.
5. Spain: this is so so so very different from anything we’d ever heard at Eurovision before, one of the most original songs this year for sure. I love that it reprises traditional Spanish sounds with the flamenco-like rhythm (Blanca herself said that this is a flamenco song), but also plays with it to create something entirely different. It’s slightly unsettling too, like a weird uncomfortable dream- I love it so much. I think it’s peculiar that if you look at the structure it’s actually really repetitive, yet somehow while you’re listening to it it seems really different, dynamic and engaging. I don’t know how it works but it does! And of course, Blanca Paloma is an angel- we already know from last year that her vocals are insane, delicate and powerful at the same time, beautifully controlled. ¡Vamos allá, la Blanca Paloma!
4. Georgia: unpopular opinion maybe but Georgia is one of my favourite countries at Eurovision, because you almost can’t find a pattern in their entries and you know that you’ll always be surprised. And well, I definitely was not expecting this. This reminds me a lot of their Junior Eurovision 2022 entry, which was my winner- so of course I am obsessed with it. The reason why it’s a bit lower than it could be is that the lyrics are atrocious- they seem as if they were written by someone who barely knows English lol. But everything else is incredible. Again, we already know Iru has some insane vocals (she didn’t win Junior Eurovision for nothing!), and they fit the song really well. I also really enjoy the “industrial”, dark pop ballad sound of the song, and I think the "Chamgaraga-ga-chamgara“ bits are so different and peculiar and cool. The instrumentation is beautiful, and the song is powerful with great structure. My favourite Georgian entry ever.
3. France: at first I was mad La Zarra was chosen because I hoped Izia or Juliette Armanet would represent France this year, but then they come out with this?! This is so aggressively French in a different way than I was expecting- it’s classy and cynical, while also being fun, catchy and modern. The lyrics are brilliantly written, La Zarra is incredibly charismatic and fascinating to watch, and the structure is really dynamic. Another big contender for the win.
2. Germany: for years I’ve been saying, “Germany has amazing rock, why won’t they just send something they’re good at?”. They finally did it! I legit cried when Lord Of The Lost won their selection, because I love this song so much and I wasn’t sure they would pull it off. I didn’t even have a clue glam metal was a thing but now I am obsessed with it. I just really love this personally because I love this kind of music, hearthy and melodic rock. Chris’s vocals are wonderful and I think the genre of the song itself makes it dynamic- alternating bits with big, harmonious instrumentation and more typical metal bits is genius imo. The lyrics are also really poetic and vivid.
1. Sweden: I really don’t know if I have the words to express how I feel about this song. I have been saying for years that if there is someone else after Johnny Logan who deserves to win Eurovision twice, that is Loreen- and she’s just proving I was right. Loreen is one of the most stunning performers there have ever been: she has a way of dragging the listener/viewer in that is just so peculiar to her. More technically, this is an insanely difficult song to sing (source: I am rehearsing it for my music recital and at the end I feel like I’ve run a marathon) and the fact that she sings it with seeming ease WHILE also moving and doing everything she does is??? Wot. The song itself is also really good (I actually like it better than Euphoria lol), with good structure and a beautiful instrumental bit, but exactly as with Euphoria it’s Loreen’s performance that actually makes it exceptional.

I'm bored so I decided to re-do my prediction for the semi-finals, with details this time. This is pre-rehearsals btw, and after them I'm sure they will most likely change but...I'm still too excited for ESC and I wanna talk about so yeah. These are in a random order btw so like anyone from, let's say 1st-3rd can be in any order at all.
SEMIFINAL 1
(Q) 1ST-3RD
• Norway. Well most people will already know this one from Spotify or TikTok or wherever this song is extremely popular (I don't have either of these lmao) plus I think the staging will be pretty dynamic and fun. I think this secures it as a clear qualifier from start.
• Sweden. Another no brainer. Epic staging, Loreen, great running order, she's in.
• Finland. Massive public support. He's also in.
(Q) 4TH-7TH
• Portugal. I think that the colorful, cabaret-like staging and Mimicat's charisma will be enough to make this qualify. It's really fun and catchy and I can see also getting the public's eye
• Croatia. Well they're pretty much established with Serbia voting and it's gimmicky and chaotic enough to also get the attention of the televoters.
• Israel. This will probably have a great choreography and also it's the only girlie bop in the semifinal which already stands out. Plus I think Noa is pretty popular herself so that alone will help her qualify.
• Moldova. Just the chorus alone is an absolute earworm and definitely memorable enough to make Moldova sail to the final.
(?) 8TH-12TH
• Malta. I know some of you will say that it will miss out, because it's 2nd and Malta does bad with the televote, but I'm sure they might actually have a decent chance to go through. It's incredibly catchy especially with the sax, yeah I can see the voters jamming to this (and preferably vote as well lol). Even so, this semi is stacked so I don't know if there will be enough room for this to get in, so that's why it's in this category.
• Latvia. Their stage show is very neat and professional from what I've seen and he can carry the vocals very well. I think casuals might be a bit confused with the structure of the song, but I still think this one could also be an option for qualifying.
• Switzerland. One of the few ballads in the semi, which can make it stand out, but at the same time, Switzerland last year didn't get that much love from the public with a (kind of) similar song. Though I feel like the message can get to the hearts of the voters and uhhhh maybe even vote for it? I don't know. It could go both ways. But I think he has a chance as well.
• Czechia. The live vocals can make or break this one so I hope they nail the harmony. Probably has the biggest chance out of these ones from this category to go through.
• Serbia. I have a feeling that casuals might have a hard time connecting to this or finding it too weird, it's also really early in the R/O, but at the same time is has a very impressive staging that will surprise.
(NQ) 13TH-15TH
• Netherlands. I didn't want to put them here, but I feel like they don't have that much of a dynamic on stage and it's like they were forced to sing together instead. The song might go on for too long for some people, or they might be put off by the lack of chemistry between the two. I can see Netherlands doing a Verona ngl.
• Ireland. I feel that the show will elevate this a bit more, but I don't think it will get enough points to qualify, since again, this semifinal is a literal bloodbath and not enough room.
• Azerbaijan. Probably the lack of competitiveness of the song might make it struggle a lot to go through.
SEMIFINAL 2
(Q) 1ST-3RD
• Slovenia. Amazing staging, the guys are charismatic and fun on stage, plus this is an incredibly weak semifinal, I can see them comfortably Q-ing.
• Austria. They have the televote appeal and the earworm-ness of Poe Poe Poe, so that's another easy qualifier. They're very stable vocally from what I've seen at the pre-parties.
• Australia. Besides being the last ones in the R/O, they too have a great show potential and voices. So they're in as well.
(Q) 4TH-7TH
• Armenia. The 2nd place might make it struggle a bit but I honestly can't see this flopping. It will come alive a lot on stage and I can see them having a very enticing staging.
• Estonia. Contrary to what I've seen, Estonia to me is a pretty sure qualifier. Her voice is tremendous and the instrumental is honestly beautiful. Will attract the ballad-loving voters for sure.
• Cyprus. Well, it's definitely a pretty safe pop song, with another great vocalist, so I think he's qualifying.
• Georgia. Ah thank god, for the first time since 2016 they really have a good chance to qualify, like I'm so proud of them you have no idea. Okay, about the song. I can see this having a big staging with dancers and all, and again, she sings great live.
(?) 8TH-12TH
• Albania: I think the R/O helps them a bit in terms of qualification, their voices are amazing, and might get the balkan votes.
• Belgium: It's indeed very dynamic and dancey, he might have a chance too? I really have no idea about Belgium, sorry.
• Iceland: Pretty underrated from what I've seen in the odds and fandom, honestly from this list she's the most likely to make it out. I think she'll get some votes, she really owns the stage with charisma and energy.
• Poland: This one depends heavily on her vocals. If she sings the same as in the nf, she'll NQ. If she improves until the semifinal, she might actually have a bit of a chance to go through. It has a good amount of streams on Spotify and has the safe pop song-sound that casuals would be familiar with.
• Lithuania: Actually, along with Iceland, she's having a good chance too. I think some people might really like the catchier conclusion of the song, you know, the ciuto tuto part. Plus, the R/O might help her a lot.
(NQ) 13TH-16TH
• Greece: Probably the song moves too slow for some and they'll get bored I think? There's also the other songs that the voters might like more. However, they have the Cyprus vote guaranteed, but I don't know about the others.
• Denmark: I thought at first that it might get the appeal of the younger voters, but I'm not so sure about his vocals? Will it be 100% his natural voice? Will he have the vocoder just like Greece last year? If his vocals won't be so brilliant I can see him struggling a bit.
• San Marino: I don't think it's that competitive, might get the rock fans voting for it but outside of that...I'm not so sure.
• Romania: Mmyeah, maybe some will be put off by the message or the pacing of the song, either way, this one has a very poor public support from what I've seen so currently I don't see having that much of a chance...

i got tagged in this like a week ago (ty mary) and then fully forgot to do it which i guess is on brand but better late than never
the last song you listened to manchester orchestra - i know how to speak i've been listening to it so much because it's on the playlist of something i'm currently writing, but i honestly never get tired of it.
a song you recently discovered uh huh her - common reaction thank you to spotify datamining for determining that i would enjoy this. i do.
a song you recently rediscovered k.d. lang - after the gold rush i love the original by neil young too but i think this has always been my favourite cover. it's so wistful. my friends and i are doing the music league thing atm (a new playlist theme every week where everyone submits a song anonymously) and the last theme made me remember how much i used to listen to this on repeat. i didn't even end up submitting it, but i'm glad i remembered it. :')
a song you love by an artist you hate the mountain goats - ezekiel 7 and the permanent efficacy of grace i don't hate the mountain goats, i just don't particularly care for them. but i do love this song a lot. the lyrics are so good, and i love the heartbeat underlining the otherwise simple piano arrangement. definitely in my top list of songs that are about both murder and intimacy.
an instrumental song guilty ghosts - late night voyages this song's also been getting a lot of playtime lately because it's on the playlist for the thing i'm currently writing lol. it does perfectly fit the tone i'm going for i suppose.
the last song you loudly sang along to nothing but thieves - you know me too well the refrain is so satisfying to howl along to i'm ngl. i mean, the entire song is a bop from start to finish, too.
the last song to make you cry kathleen edwards - goodnight, california something something it's about the melancholy of wanting connection but being terrified of it at the same time, i guess? kathleen edwards is great anyway but this particular song has recently rly managed to reach into my chest and tug.
a song someone recommended to you saro - eyelids every now and then my friend issy will text me to be like "you should listen to this it's about your blorbos" and i do and without fail it absolutely is about my blorbos because she's got some sort of psychic link to my hindbrain. not just because i'm incredibly predictable. anyway, this song whips
a song you dance to when you're alone prefab sprout - the king of rock 'n' roll so cheesy. so good. also, "all my lazy teenage boasts / are now high precision ghosts / and they're coming round the track / to haunt me" is such a banger opening verse.
if you wanna do this then please go ahead and say i tagged you! i'd love to see everyone else's choices. the ones i'm not giving a choice are @aximili, @dominocity, @symdroids, @mahariels, @ossifer, @tesselatingtoads, and @nonagethimus

6. jikjin - treasure
why were so many people pretending like they didnt fuck heavy with this song. perhaps broaden your mindset like. [korean korean] jikjiiiiiiinnnn woooooooooooooo. anw it feels like pop rocks to my brain and in the best way possible so its here.
TOP 5. These were the objectively best releases of 2022!
5. last sequence - wjsn
thats gay clubbing music baby! something about this song feels so... not 2022. more like i opened a time portal and went back to mid-2017. idk why. but i love that vibe.
4. shut down - blackpink
the lyrics, production, that violin, everything about this song was an instant hit. no im not just saying that because blackpink was my first group. their comeback this year ate and served cunt severely. we love you blackpink.
3. 2 baddies - nct 127
i like thot music! the way ppl complained about it was so 😭😭 its an nct song what were you expecting. shut up. you either rock with it or you dont. like the song was made BY baddies FOR baddies. so if it isnt hitting...
2. pop! - nayeon
ms. im nayeon put the POP in kPOP with tjis song! and it was her SOLO DEBUT? PLEASEEEEEEE........ i love the girly cutesy bubblegum-y fun of this one. so. so. so. much. like everything about it SO iconic. she not only solidified herself as a capable soloist but as a pop princess too!
1. brand new - xiumin
are you surprised? im an exol after all! but fr this song had me GAGGED since the mv TEASER dropped! everything about it is so good, the beat, the lyrics, the vocals... everything! when it comes down to the mv minseok had $10 and a dream but he still made it work. that song was MADE to be a hit!! when i heard it i knew NOTHING ELSE released this year was gonna top it!
very honorable mentions that didnt make the list for lack of space :( (imagine they are in 2nd place with pop by nayeon)
i don't even mind - chen, invu - taeyeon, hurdle - suho, feel my rhythm - rv, candy - nct dream, gasoline - key, gingamingayo - billlie, loveade - viviz, dreamers - jungkook 🤪,after like - ive
